Haile is a very nice charachter. Almost too nice and too weird. He is VERY disorganized and has even lost final exams. He stands too close to students and is incredibly AWKWARD!!
Haile Haile is an amazing teacher. He is clear, concise and has an amazing ability to understand your misunderstanding. Of course he is extremely eccentric...his favorite letter is e (as in euler's e)...but he is a mathemetician.
I thought that Haile was a good prof. The pace at which he worked through the material was comforting and he is always to work with you. A little unorganized and a character for sure, I do think that anyone who struggles with Math should give him a try.
A teacher that loves math. He finds humor is the magic of numbers. Took lots of time to help out students one on one, and never failed to bring out smiles. I worked my schedule around him because I knew he would provide sound instruction.
Haille is a great teacher! Very helpfull, will take extra time to help you understand just ask.I wish i wouldve waited to take math 80 with him!It took me 3 times to pass this without his expert help!He does have a accent so you must listen and ask if you dont understand. He is always smiling and brings out smiles, great to be around. Good teacher!
I've had Haile twice now, and there's no math trick he doesn't know. If you put in the effort, his course will make you a better mathmatician. He proves everything and answers any question you have (if you don't, he'll ask the questions for you).
If you think in math he's the guy for you. If the subject is a struggle, a not so brilliant professor is a better choice in my experience. He is just too smart to teach lower level mathmatics.
nice and understandable
He will, um, help if you are young, of a certain gender, and like to flirt.
H^2 is a mumbler. You have to sit in the first two or three rows to hear him. When I withdrew from his course, even the counselor admitted that he isn't a good presenter.
Very nice pesone, he was one of my favorite instracctor i ever had. He teach very well and clear. what can i say about hem.. he is wonderfull
If you like Math, Haile is a fantastic professor. You can see that he loves math down to it's foundations, and it is contagious. He is a little quiet, but one of my favorite professors.
Pretty good teacher. Soft spoken- sit in front! No tricks on the tests & they are deceptively easy, but you'd better be able to apply the theory as problems won't look like anything seen before. No story problems or busy work. I'd definitely take him over anyone else at MCTC.
(Haile)^2 is a great professor, but the class definitely requires a ton of effort. Make sure to ask questions if you have them, because if you don't he will move right past the subject, and you definitely build on previous subjects.
Haile is a very smart and knowledgable teacher. He is very edgucated in math and teaches many levels. He teaches the most direct way to do math and makes little mistakes.
He was very quiet and hard to understand. He seemed really out of it the entire time, however he is pretty decent at math.
very helpful. Great lectures. I took 2 of his classes because i liked his teaching style so much.
After a couple of days you get past his awkwardness and realize that he is a wonderful teacher. I will take all my math until calc 3 with haile^2
Haile is an unorganized Pro. He knows math a lot! He is a quiet lecturer. If you want to listen to him carefully, sit at the front rows in the class. His test questions are very different than the math text books you will use in the class. He focuses too much on understanding the theory behind the concepts rather than understanding the procedures.
Good teacher, but hard to hear. His tests are not like the homework at all.
haile^2 is a GREAT PROFESSOR! he tries his hardest to make you understand the information and spends alot of lecture time going over problems and clarifying what the book doesnt! HE'S MY FAVORITE TEACHER IN THE MATH DEPARTMENT. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM!!
Haile is a great math teacher. He tests on the concepts taught in class, so if you don't fully understand why the math works the way it does you wont do well on tests. I look forward to taking more classes from Haile soon!
he is a good teacher he loves math. it is as though he is walking around in a cloud of mathematics, wonderful!
This is my second class with this teacher and I've to drop the class again. I'm lost in his class :-(
Took him for college level Algebra. Great lecture. Terrible tests. Covers some material from the book, but tests primarily from lecture. Only offered 125 pts. for the entire semester, with each test worth between 5 & 15 pts. So 1 wrong on a 5 pt. test and you've got a low B. Retaking Algebra next spring. It'll be from a different teacher.
I am an A student, I took his class thinking that other complaints were more to do with the difficulty of the subject and not so much the prof, I was wrong. He makes the subject very difficult to learn and his grading is very discouraging. He puts problems that we didn't go over on tests and homework. Tests are only 10pts so get 1 wrong lose 10%!
Good person, bad teacher. Unless you sit in the front row, you can't hear him. If you come to his office hours, he will help you as much as you need. Unpredictable tests. Teaches like most math teachers: easy if you like math, the hardest class you've ever taken if you don't.
Haile Squared is a good teacher. One must take notes in his class, most of the material on his tests is from class lectures. Haile's main drawback is his poor organization skills and lack of punctuality.
I am a tutor and was a student with Haile. He is a good teacher for low level math, 1120 and below (most of my tutees are from math 70, 80, 1110 said he is very good). He doesnt clarify well in high level math such as Cal1,2,3,4. Stick with the note for the tests, go over previous tests for final.
He's hard to hear unless you sit in the front row. He hardly uses the textbook (because he doesn't like it) and his way of teaching is by working through the problems without explaining why or relating the math itself to something else. Honestly, I'm amazed I even passed this class because I felt lost most of the time. Nice man, odd teacher.
Haile is brilliant!! If you want to really know and understand mathematics, Haile is your guy!
I had Haile for Calc 1-4, and for Discrete Math. He is a brilliant, caring teacher who is always willing to help. He can be difficult to understand at times, and often has his head in the clouds, but he is still hands-down the best math teacher I have ever had. I gained a whole new appreciation for math after taking his classes.
If you are not naturally good with math do not take this class. Hiale class is for someone who likes to be challenged in this subject. He is not good with elaborating and sort of explanation to your questions. However people whom are good at math and enjoy love this teach. I am the person that struggles with math.
Hmm What can I say? He is good in math but doesn't know how to teach. Almost always 6 minutes late. Very disorganized. Spends more time writing questions word by word which can waste a lot of class time. As a result, he falls behind at the end of the semester. Tries to impress doing mental calculations. Don't recommend him for higher level math.
Avoid this guy at all costs! If you have no choice but to take the class, then I strongly recommend you choose to take it as a visitor at another mnscu CC. Why?...He expects you to know as much as he knows but there's a problem, he's too intelligent to the point where it impairs his judgement for creating test that are suited for the averagestudent
Haile is hands down the best math professor I've ever had. He is excellent at simplifying difficult concepts and has a very thorough knowledge of the subject. Encourages students to understand rather than rote-memorize. Cares about his students and very willing and available to help. ALL MATH TEACHERS SHOULD BE LIKE HIM.
He is a brilliant professor who cares about the success of this students.
Excellent instructor. Make sure you know what you are doing before walking into one of his exams.
Take this class with a different person if you have the option.
One of the most, brilliant, kind, and respectful individuals I have ever met. The class is difficult, but that is the way it's supposed to be. Plan on studying quite a bit outside of class. I recommend taking discrete mathematics before taking this course.
One of the best math professors I have ever had. My interest in the subject as well as my ability has increased significantly.
Haile is the Best Math teacher i have ever come across. Very Willing to help you understand, and expects you to pass. Very clear on what he teaches and what he would set in the test. Whatever grade you end up with, just know that Haile gave you an A. The rest is up to you.
This was the worst professor I have ever had. I ended up withdrawing from the course because he was so completely unhelpful. I have a good basic understanding of math and he made everything 10x more complicated and by the end of class I was completely lost. Seriously; avoid at all costs.
Haile is definitely one of my favorite teachers so far. He speaks quietly, so you might need to sit at the front of the class. The pace is perfect; he writes absolutely everything on the board so you know what to write down. He tests straight out of his notes so take notes you will do well in the class. He answers questions clearly and patiently.
If you set in 3rd row or far, you won't hear him. His tests are so hard and basically you don't learn a lot in his class. You should study so hard to get A.
I would advise you to avoid this class at all costs!! No matter how much you study from notes or textbooks know that he gets the test questions from his head and those questions doesn't even go with what he thought as!! AVOID HIM AT ALLL COSTS!!! SERIOUSLY!! DON'T TAKE HIM AT ALL!! HE IS SO UNORGANIZED AND RUDE!! AVOID NO MATTER WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Haile is so awesome. He is the kindest man in the world, and he explains the concepts so thoroughly and well. His tests can be tricky, but it is always material that he covered in class, and you can usually tell what he's going to test on. He will give you all the outside of class help you need. Calc is inherently difficult; Haile makes it easier.
overall not bad.
Professor (Haile)^2 is a Math creator professor. o any Math teacher compared with him on the subject knowledge. He is very kind, patient, and well organized on his note. He is quite but enough for the first three rows. He answers any question right away what ever you ask him. To get good grade make sure you attend his class.
Haile is a brilliant man. That being said he expects you to understand some very difficult concepts, at least for most, at a high level of comprehension. He is extremely approachable, however this does not translate to helpful. There isn't a lot of continuity between his lecture and his exams, and they are very difficult. Great teacher for savants.
Great man, good teacher, Unorthodox methods. Either hate him or love him.
I took his algebra class and trigonometry and I wish I could take his calculus class. the tests are not hard if you listen in class, almost all problems in the test come from the lecture - If you listen you can get an easy A, if you are not listening and missing class, forget about it. Doesn't assign a lot of homework which is awesome.
Easily one of the best teachers I've ever had. Assignments and tests are relatively low on the busy work, but extremely heavy on testing understanding of concepts. His lectures go above and beyond the material his classes are supposed to cover. He somehow makes very difficult material easy for anyone to understand.
Best Math teacher! You gotta attend every class and you will get an A.
It is tough class. He mostly focus on the book material but, his exams are not from the books. You have to think and to do the your job hard. During office hour, he does his work not really helping students. Exams are random. The problems are random and not related to the homework problem from books. They are not from what he taught.
Although hes a nice guy,I found it difficult to learn from him. His class is for people who already have prior knowledge of the subject. If youre taking calculus for the first time or havent had it in a while, his class is probably not a good fit. The class moves quickly and he is a tough grader. Brilliant guy, not the best at explaining concepts.
Sweetest man ever! his test are a bit tough, but they are very short (like 10 questions max) and he grades you on your knowledge of the material. so even if you don't get the correct answer if it looks like you know what you are doing he will give you some points still. (which saved me) all around very great teacher. just make sure you attend class
He is great professor and he is welling to help, you will get the grade you want if you work hard, I will recommended him if you want learning Math.
I didn't learn much in his class, I taught myself a lot of the material. He's hard to understand at times, mumbles and has a soft voice. He gives very little credit if you get something wrong but attempt. If it comes down between Ed Seifert or Haile Haile, take Haile, because at least you can pass. Ed Seifert is just a waste of time and effort!
quiet voice, but extremely nice. if you cant take his african accent, choose someone else.
Mr. Haile is a very good teacher, does not give home work online, marks home work on time. He is willing to help out of class time. Work hard and you will get a good grade. I hate math but got a B in his class.
This professor move so slow beginning of the semester and to fast last two weeks which will affect you, he is doing a lot of problem in class, there is no home work and he is hard grader.
I recommend to sit in the front because he has a soft voice and write in cursive. Classes moves at a pretty moderate pace. Lots of partial credit. Problems are worked in class, will answer questions, and homework is assigned, usually due before an exam. I also took him for calc 1. Very generous, brought fruit for class at end of semester.
He doesn't how to teach a class. He doesn't follow the syllabus, and he didn't explain it at all. He gives you a little credit even if the answer is close. He doesn't give a solution test. Since I was studying at MCTC, all professors give a solution test for each test and Haile doesn't take some of his time to provide us a solution test.
Professor Haile genuinely cares about all of his students, and wants them to succeed. His passion for and mastery of mathematics is conveyed during his lectures. This, coupled with his dry sense of humor, makes class periods very enjoyable. Any student who attends lectures regularly and works through practice exercises will have no problem passing.
he knows math but his explanation is so bad and he is old and too slow, he wont be able to cover all the material but will test you for it. got also short temper. he doesn't like answering questions.
I love Haile, he is super funny and adorable. Yes, he can be disorganized, and his lectures aren't always easy to follow. But he knows that about himself and cuts you all kinds of slack. It's difficult at first, but you figure out his style as you go along. If you need extra help, go to the learning center or get together with other students.
Prof Haile went beyond just teaching math, he made an effort to make us understand the content, rather than just find ways to solve problems. Prof. Haile may be suitable for someone looking to go beyond just knowing that a limit exists. I would try and give him a chance, he may be disorganized outside, however he is a hell of a teacher inside clas.
I would never recommend taking his class, He has enough knowledge in math area but can't teach it which is the biggest problem. Not organized, doesn't use D2L
Taught precalc 2 the old school way. It was WONDERFUL. Handwritten & text book only! I could work on it anywhere. Not communicating exact dates of units or tests made you study harder than ever . Tests had short announcements, big grade. no homework. it made you SHOW UP AND READ. huge lesson in responsibility of work and dedication. Changed my life
I took his Precalc 1 class. I do not recommend taking him. He gives us small amount of homework but both the homework and tests contain random problems that he never taught in class. It's very difficult to understand what he is saying, as he speaks very softly.
I had him for precalculus 1 and Haile is the worst teacher I ever had in my life. I'm the kid that will need to understand the lecture to pass the class because MATH isn't my best subject. If you were born smart, then take this class and learn it on your own, BUT if you're like me, do not take it. He does not cares about his students at all.
Haile is very good at Math, but horrible at explaining topics. Prepare to do your own reading and research. He does not specify what will be on tests, and hands homework back after the test date, so you aren't really able to learn from your mistakes. He is also not lenient on grading, doesn't give partial credit even if you were on the right track
I took 2 classes with Haile 6+ yrs. ago am on this site looking for other prof.s rating for my MS program, but just remembered to rate Haile. Haile's knowledge of math is like I've never seen, and he will help you understand the concept in or outside of class. He may be a little hard to understand b/c of his accent, so you have to ask questions.
Only take him if you HAVE too. He dont care about the success of students. Like others have mentioned, he give random problems that he never went over in class. I have no idea what chapters we are on or what the hell were suppose to study for exams. Very dismissive when ask for help, he just want you to go away. Miss my previous math professor..
Why is he even allow to teach? You wonder why America is falling behind on math. Seriously, the homeworks are worth 2xmore points than the exams? Theyre way harder and contain stuff that he never went over in class;so if you get bad grades on them good luck because they affect your grade more than the exams. Ive never had grade below b in math b4.
Haile is a very nice person. I wish that he would give practice materials with answer keys. That would help a lot. Tips for surviving his class: sit in the front, ask questions, take good notes, read and study the chapters, and go to academic center for help. Ask for practice problems with answer keys. The homeworks helps a lot with the exams.
The black Einstein. Ask for homework early so you can be better prepare. Many factors makes it hard for students to succeed. He dont always teach from the book( dont think you can rely on it) or break down problems in simple way. You'll have to study twice as hard. TAKE vids of his lectures! The class was tough, but at the end, Ive learned so much!
He really wants his students to pass, and makes himself readily available to to his students during office hours. He also made himself available when it was convenient for the students. He did not make it mandatory to attend class, but if you want to succeed do, otherwise watch his Zoom recordings. He really works with you, if YOU work with him!!!
Strap in, and bring that confidence you're going to need it. If you aren't good at math DO NOT take this professor even if he's the only one available. I'm not sure why I paid for the book because half of the used material on tests and home work isn't even in it
Doesn't go off text book and rushes through the problems. Dont waste your time and semester on him. Takes forever to email back, took me emailing him twice everytime to get an answer and rarely emailes back after replying to him.
don't take his class.
1. Doesn't use D2l. He takes a while to answer emails and you will sometimes have to email him twice to get a reply. 2. There is a required book but he doesn't use it 3. He knows math very well but he is not good at explaining! 4. Talk to him after class or during office hours it will definitely help if you are having a hard time!
take if no other option, does not use D2L. Grading rubric is unorganized, all HW submitted through email. Didn't know my grade until two weeks before the end of the semester. Halie emphasizes out-of-class study but does not require textbooks, provide practice problems, or expanded directions. NEEDS a TA. GET A TUTOR. Fair presenter, not an educator.
1. doesn't go through the textbook, but talks on how we should use it to study 2. goes through tests and units immediately, messed up in my class so now we have no clue when tests are! 3. he knows what he's teaching, he just doesn't know how to teach it 4. doesn't respond to emails 5. do not take his class, even if you truly are good at math
Engage with him: if you show him you want to succeed, he will allow you do well. Many people struggle in his class but from my eyes it is 100% due to lack of engagement. He is truly an exceptional person and is very understanding that people have things come up outside of school, and knows how to accommodate. Wish him the best every day.
This was the worst class I've ever taken. Gave no information about what we were working on or where we were in the textbook. Never introduced what he was teaching, class consisted entireley of him doing work but never actually explaining what he was doing. Doesnt use D2L so you never know what your grade is. Wouldn't reccomend to anybody.
Thanks to Dr. Haile I earned the one math credit I needed to transfer to the U of M to complete my undergraduate degree. He took the time to understand where I was blocked. He helped unblock decades of math phobias all because I asked for help. Had Dr. Haile been one of my first math teachers I doubt I'd fear math for as long as I did!

As a PSEO student taking Discrete Mathematics, I had a surprisingly easy time grasping the concepts for this class. That being said, however, it is exceptionally hard to catch up after missing a lecture. The test questions are always variants of the ones we cover in class, so there is always a high chance that you study something that isn't needed.
I had prof Haile for Diff Eqs & Calc 3. He's my favorite prof I've had! The hw & test problems will almost always be variations of lecture problems. He doesn't give much hw. Will give partial credit for work shown on incorrect answers. He's incredibly intelligent & willing to help, but also can be a little disorganized. I highly recommend him!
