He is a very helpful teacher. He knows what he is talking about and he explains it in a way that you can understand. If you are comfortable with mathematics you should have no problem with his classes.
He is a very kind and nice man. He explains every detail and even if one student doesn't understand something, he makes sure they get it. He is helpful and does what he can to help your grade. Best professor ever.
Best Prof ever!
He is a very good professor. One of the best professors in nova. I would definitely recommend him to everyone.
I suck at math but passed this class with a B. best professor EVER. attendance doesn't matter just do the online homework & show up for test day. Allows you to use a cheat sheet & is very lenient on makeup exams. You can't fail this class it's literally impossible.
Prof Haja Razafinjatovo was an amazing teacher. He provided in depth explanations on the material and would often have a review session in class before the tests. The homework was not graded, but he did assign some. I would highly recommend anybody to take his classes.
He is the best math teacher I ever had. He takes his time to break down all the steps and continues to do so until we remember. Doesn't try to confuse us with math lingo and concepts, gets to the point and is really helpful. I had to retake this course and he definitely explained the steps to problems easier then what i had learned the first time
Prof. R was tremendously good, he is very helpful and goes out of his way to make sure students are understanding his material. He uses power points and will give handouts of them so you have one to keep. Make sure to study them and to do the homework because it really helps I was never really good at math but he made it easy to understand TAKEHIM!
HE'S GREAT AT BREAKING DOWN THE MATERIAL STEB BY STEP IF YOU NEED TO AND TREATS YOU AS COLLEGE STUDENT. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS YOU CAN DEFINITELY ASK. HE IS VERY FUNNY AND DOES NOT MAKE THE CLASS BORING. HE KNOWS WHAT HE'S TALKING ABOUT AND PROBABLY THE BEST PROF. I HAVE EVER HAD.
Haja is an incredible teacher! He makes calc so clear and easy to learn, even enjoyable. He gave 3-4 tests and take home quizzes, all of which came from lecture material or assigned homework(not graded). He gave extra credit opportunities after a few people asked for it. He also allows a "cheat sheet" on tests! Best math teacher ever!!
Prof. Razafinjatovo goes teaches in a very elaborate manner. He explains even the minutest of things and is more than happy to answer even the stupidest of questions from his students. You'll get an A for sure if you don't miss his classes and don't worry about the homework, there's not a lot.
One of the best professors I have taken so far. Mostly recommenced.
Prof. Haja was awesome. The class was hard but he is great at explaining, and helps you if you dont understand. Gives lots of online homework but you have many attempts to get it right, tests are based off the hw.
hes great!!!
He's ok, if you want easy and not learn too much then take him. I am currently taking MTH 277 and struggling with some integral concepts that he didn't go over. :( If you want an easy 'A' take him but you will not learn much.
One of my favorite professors!! If you have the opportunity to take him, do it. Prof Razafinjatovo is overly kind and really cares about his students, making sure they understand the material. If you have any questions, he is happy to help. His class is easy. Just show up, pay attention, do the study guide, and you'll get an A.
Teaches everything you need to know in detail, and answers any questions you have. He'll help you try to pass the class. He uses the book as examples for the class to do and does the problem with you. Homework are study guides and they're online. They're fairly easy to do.
I highly recommend Professor Razafinjatovo! By far one of the best professors I have had. He does a great job at explaining the material and cares about his students succeeding.
His class is basically all power points but for me, i found that his examples are clear and made me easily understand the problems. All the exams are similar to the homework he gives on my math lab. I highly recommend him.
Professor Haja Razanfinjatovo is one of the best professors Ive ever taken. I took MTH152 to with him right before they got rid of the course and switched it to MTH154. Professor Razanfijatovo knows the material, will help you whenever you ask, loves to hear students feedback, and also replaces your grade on the final with your lowest test grade.
IDC what anyone says, GREAT TEACHER!!!! I enjoy math and I enjoyed having him as a teacher. He goes into depth with topics and offers office hours. If you need help, ASK him or GO see him. There's no reason to rate him low because he always offers help. NEVER had homework either. His tests are the same as study guides, he also allows a cheat sheet!
Really nice and knowledgable professor. Offers help whenever you are in need for extra clarification on a concept. He's really good at explaining material, even on hard subjects. The study guides are very similar to the tests - so, constantly practice those. No homework. Take this class if you are looking to actually LEARN something.
The BEST. This Professor is amazing in teaching Math. If you get the chance, take him. Because of this class, I am so good in Math now. He is always willing to help, which is important. This Professor takes Math and turns it into a skill that you are able to achieve and makes it a skill that you are academically stronger in.
Math doesn't come naturally to me. The professor gave clear and concise study guides for the tests that mimic what is on the actual test. I am terrible at math but he really made it straight forward. The best math professor I have ever had; I had to drop pre-calculus THREE times before finally landing this straightforward and easygoing professor.
He is the best math teacher in the NOVA I have ever encounter. His class is easy and teaching technic is useful for students. His accent is heavy but you will understand what you want to learn. I strongly recommend you to take his class. He is easy grader too.
This was a hard class but taught by a great professor. The test were the study guides and the homework was great practice, he does not set you up to fail. if YOU put the effort and try and ask questions you will pass.
Dr. Razafinjatovo is an amazing, intellectual professor. He is the best Professor at NOVA. He is very caring and is always willing to help. I definitely enjoyed the course and he does an excellent job teaching the course material. The study guides were very helpful as well. He prepares you for the exams and assignments. Definitely a course to take.
Dr. R is a caring professor and he tries his best to help students understand the subject. He makes a subject that is hard seem easy and he wants his students to pass. But he is unorganized and doesnt get back to you on emails. He doesnt give partial points on a math problem on tests even though he says he would. Tests are long & multiple choice
Dr. Razafinjatovo is a great math professor. He explains things very clearly and I understood everything he was teaching. We used ALEKS for homework which I thought was actually useful, but it can be a lot of homework sometimes. Tests are short answer style problems and he does give partial credit if you show your work. I reccomend taking him.
Dr. Haja is a great prof. His lectures were off a powerpoint and he did problems on the board while we take notes. He is really understanding and super chill. He extended the homework deadlines multiple times. There were 3 tests and a final. Take his summer class. Only con is that he barely responds to emails. Take his 8 week class if there is one.
BEST CALC PROFESSOR IN NVCC. DO NOT TAKE HERNINGS OR SCALEA or anybody. TAKE HIM. He is super laid back and teaches all the subjects thoroughly. His reviews for the tests are literally the test. Do the online homework it helps. TAKE HIM AND GET A GOOD GRADE. I failed twice with Hernings and Scalea because their teaching style. HE IS THE BEST.
He hardly knows what he is talking about. He is behind on aleks by 1 chapter no matter what. If you ask him to extend it, he does. The class kinda sucked, but that is math also. If you don't pay attention then you will easily miss a whole chapter.
Profesor Razafinjatovo is easily the best math professor at Nova. Take him for Pre-Calc, or Applied Calculus I. This class is not an easy A, but Professor R will meet you half way as long as you do your part. Pay attention in class (especially review days), and try to understand the homework and you should pass the class with no problem.
He explains the material really well and goes through the problems step by step. He allows us to bring in a formula sheet and the class before the test he goes over problems that will be fairly similar to the test. He is willing to help and extend the homework if you ask him in person. Taking him is a great foundation for calculus 2.
Honestly, Dr. R is an amazing professor. He is willing to help if you need it. Make sure to show up on review days, as it will really prepare you for the test, if anything. He is very nice and kind. Calculus is hard, but he makes it bearable and doable. Out of all the NVCC MTH professors, your best bet is to sign up for his classes. He's awesome.
I want to write this review before I get my grade back. Prof Raja is a real Gem and if you are a struggling math student, this is your guy. He is very detailed and knows his subject very well. I have a love-hate relationship with Math, failed my 161 last semester, and what a difference a good professor makes. I actually enjoyed my lectures for once
Wanted to write a review before I actually get my grade back. Prof Haja is a great teacher and very knowledgeable about the subject he teaches. I like Math but I've always struggled with understanding certain concepts, he took very complex topics and broke it down in a way that was easy to grasp. Take him and you will not regret it.
Dr. Razafinjatova is probably the best math instructor at NOVA. I'm not a math genius (I don't even need Calculus for my profession, just as a prerequisite) but he made Calculus so understandable. I got a B in Precalc (different prof) & an A in his Calculus class! Take his summer class, you get it over with and it's not that difficult.
This professor is one of the worst professors in this college. He dont know the subject and he cant explain the subjects and lectures well. Also, all of the students here talk about study guides before the exam. However, I was fooled and he didnt USE ANY STUDY GUIDES FOR THE EXAM and the exam was so hard and nothing related to lecture.
This professor is disorganized and doesn't teach you anything. The exams are mostly hard. Also, He is not passionate about teaching. You will learn nothing in this class.
I got tricked by this comments. This semester was horrible for me because of this class. This professor is not good at math and he wants to teach more than 20 students how to deal with math problems. The exams are half from the study guides but for the rest, its just some random questions and homeworks. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR.
Online class after COVID. Overall, great professor, but content delivery is challenging. The flow of material was not smooth and made learning challenging, which does not help with a dry subject like Calculus. I HIGHLY recommend you go on Youtube and watch 'Professor Leonard Calculus 1' series BEFORE the class. Will help you greatly!
He cant explain things to save his life. I really like him as a person. However, teaching just is not his forte.
Weekly homework on webassign very doable. His lectures were amazing he teaches the material very well. About 3 exams which are easy if you study and are easier than the homework. His honestly a great math teacher!
He really tries to explain everything thoroughly to make sure the class understands the material. He has no problem reviewing or re-explaining something if there are questions. It is also apparent that he cares about our success and wants to help his students in any way he can. Overall, he is a great teacher and I would highly recommend him.
One of the best teacher I've ever had! I only had him for a few weeks as a sub for Prof. Herning. He is a great teacher who explains the material very well, and he assigns the right amount/difficulty of problems on the homework and tests. Would've loved to have him teach this whole class. Makes Calculus doable for anyone who struggles with math.
Super nice guy, takes a while to understand him with his accent though. I took him for both MTH 154 and MDE 54 and we did LOTS of excel activities in MDE 54. Doesnt tell you when he assigns homework, you have to check on mymathlab. Doesnt seem to care too much if your late to class or not, hes overall a really nice guy.
Good professor that pays attention to classes readiness before an exam. He has pushed tests back, and has gives helpful study guides before each exam, and will go over each question as needed. I have learned things from him this year that I should've learned in high school, and I now feel confident walking into a math class.
This professor was nice in the beginning but he gets mad quick, he literally told some students to change there major because they were never gonna get it. He gives a ton of homework. He overcomplicates things sometimes which can be very confusing and a lot of people drop out of his class. Also if you get fail the final you fail the class.
personally nice and polite, but a bit too laid back.doesn't know what's on his slides before he teaches. impossible to get a hold of outside of class even though he will tell you to email questions in class. hard to tell where your grades are bc he separates canvas (exams)and alecks grade(asgmts)students inclass agree he puts evthg off till last min
Very easy exams and a reasonable amount of homework. If you don't do well in this class, you have absolutely no one to blame but yourself.
Professor Haja is a great professor. He was very accommodating about going back and clarifying whatever the students had questions about during his lectures. Homework paralleled tests, so preparing for them was simple. He even postponed a test since he felt the class wasn't ready. Only drawback was that he was difficult to reach outside of class.
TAKE THIS MAN. He is an absolute GEM. He is so kind, and understanding and most of all his tests are the same thing as his study guides just with different numbers. He only tests his students on what he teaches. Super lenient with pushing home work dates. If you fail his class, quit engineering because he is the easiest and best math prof at nova.
Professor Razafinjatovo (or "Prof. Haja") values fairness, understands the material, AND is passionate about teaching. His class isn't easy, but don't be afraid to ask for what you need! I had learning-accommodations, but he went above and beyond for everyone who asked for extra time on assignments or tests. Just be sure to tell him 'thank you'! :)
Took him for 288 not ^ 271. Not sure about his precalc/calc classes, but prof Haja's discrete math lectures left a lot to be desired. It's a semi-upper level class but was taught as if we were precalc students. I don't feel like I learned nearly as much as I was supposed to. Tests were a joke and homework was rare. Take him if you want an easy A.
80% of your grade is made of 4 exams but they are pretty easy. He's a really good teacher but you have a better chance at contacting alien life forms than at contacting him outside class. This class is definitely an easy A if you are willing to put in the slightest bit of time preparing for the exams.
Prof Haja was the BEST!!! He gives amazing lectures and is always willing to go above and beyond to help his students. He goes through things thoroughly and explains things in a way that's easy to understand. I highly recommend taking good notes and doing the homework/reviews on aleks, it'll help you out so much on the tests!
Prof. Haja is the only math professor to actually make me understand math. he's pretty chill, but understands the subject and is an easy grader. highly recommend him.
Hands down the best math prof NOVA has to offer. Always explains everything thoroughly, and if you don't understand in class(as frustrating as it can be) ALEKS helps a lot. Cared about the students and most of the time the exams were easier than the review. This course isn't easy but in the work and you'll get the grade you earned.
Professor Finjatovo is hard to understand and gets annoyed easily. His Aleks homework is a boatload, and his tests are heavy. I highly recommend Professor Giang Trinh over Professor Finjatovo as the homework and test work is much better with students who are taking more than two classes.
He was just ok. No extra credit. All your exams will weight about 55%.
He moves through the class material way too quick to understand him and he doesn't even sound like he understands what he teaches. He reads through slides word for word and moves on before you have time to write anything down. The online lecture is 3 and a half hours and he spends most of it doing useless practice problems. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Overall he is a good professor because lectures really well, he is very lenient in homeworks especially (he extends homeworks). Attendance is not manditory. But his test and exams counts 80% of our whole grade. If you are not good with tests nor exams no matter what major you are in, I would not reccomend taking this professor.
Haja is the best! I dreaded calculus before his class, but he is a fantastic teacher and makes sure no one is left behind. Super nice grader. Really understanding about extending homework deadlines and postponed our tests to give us more time. You won't find a better math prof at nova. Thanks to Dr. Haja I will never fear math again.
If you want to keep a high GPA please do not take this professor, he is not friendly at all. I am not a super good math student, but I work hard and do whatever it takes. This is the type of teacher that gets angry at you for asking questions making it a hostile environment. He made me not want to ask questions and I struggled badly.
I had him for a six week summer class. He explains the materials in deep and tries to make connection between old and new concepts. Lots of homework, but it was fair 20% of grade, two midterms 50%, quizzes 5% and final 25% of the grade. He takes long time to grade exams and determine the final grade in SIS. He provides exam guides which is helpful.
Haja was an amazing teacher! Highly recommend.
Great professor and very nice guy. The test always looks like the review, no curveballs or tricks. Very lenient in grading and extending deadlines. Also great at communicating and reliable. Grading is 20% homework (Aleks), and 80% tests (4 tests). For MTH 161, your last test grade will replace your lowest test grade if it is higher.
Most wonderful math prof/teacher I have ever had, Prof Haja helped me immensely throughout the year. He genuinely cares about students and their academic success, take him if you can, he's amazing!
Currently enrolled in MTH263 and experiencing a sense of unpreparedness. Some crucial calculus-related content was omitted, creating a deficiency in my readiness. His MTH 167 course seemed excessively simple and lacking depth.Opting for an easy 'A' may be tempting, but it leaves one ill-equipped for the challenges of calculus. Avoid at all costs.
i'm also taking MTH263, probs wit dis dude crying under me. prof haja def prepared us, blud jus been caught sleeping fr. calc is mad hard ngl but not cus of prof haja, its jus tuff
A few of us who took MTH 263 and are now in MTH 264 are struggling. Some Calc 1 topics were skipped, leaving us unprepared. Opting for a simple 'A' may seem attractive initially, but it can prove detrimental in the long run. A few of us our considering filing a complaint with the dean.
He is an amazing professor who is always ready to help especially during his office hours. I took him for precalc and trig (167) and I'm currently taking him for calc 1 (263). Take him for sure!
He is the best Math professor I have ever taken. Take him and make sure to go to his office hours he would love to explain to you anything that you don't understand.
Pros: Above average. You won't find anyone better tbh. Uses cengage for hw (graded). Allows a formula sheet for exams. Exams look like the hw (sometimes). Easy on grading. Has a sense of humor. Open for questions despite redundancy. You may need to work for your grade and make sure you know your stuff for calc 2. Cons: **Very** slow teaching.
This is my 2nd time taking this. Prof R takes a pretty hands-off approach to the class. Almost everything you need you can learn from Alexs. Posts the lecture slides, but I pretty much just used Alexs. Be wary, there are a LOT of Alexs HW assignments. Only grades tests and homework. He's pretty nice though, and will give you extensions when asked.
Attendance is optional. 20% for 5 grades: Homework, 3 tests, and the final. If you can test well this is an easy A. Lectures are review from the homework.
I wouldn't recommend this professor if you're looking to grasp the challenges of calculus. I found the class way too easy and didn't feel fully prepared for Calculus 2 afterward. I'm considering retaking it with someone else. If you're looking for an easy A, this professor is fine, but if you want a more rigorous experience, look for other options.
Nice professor overall. Very slow teaching at first. I didnt like the way he explained things or how fast he got once we got done with the review unit. Very flexible and will work with you 1 on 1 during office hours if you ask. Cheat sheet and calculator are allowed on all 3 tests and final. Quizzes and HW are online and there's decent amount of HW
Wasn't graded by very many assignments so make them count. Lectures were very slow and he would frequently make mistakes here and there.
He was a nice professor overall, but his lectures were uninteresting and difficult to sit through. I did not feel like I was being taught anything, instead I felt like I was just watching him do the problems on the board. If you want to just skip class and do the hw, you're fine. If you want to actually learn the concepts, look someplace else.
One of the best professors I have ever had. I mean it. There wasn't an option for Calc 2 (math114) so i put 113 for this, but he can teach anything. Was super kind and gave extensions on homework so you could actually practice it if you need it. Lectures were super well spoken and he made calculus sound easy.
Overall he is a really nice guy but if you are not great at math to begin with and struggle in learning topics it would be best not to take his class. The lectures are two hours long and they get very tiring very fast. There are three tests worth 55% of your grade and the final is worth 25%. Very test heavy.
Just pay attention and attend lectures then you'll be fine!
Probably not the best professor for you if you don't have a strong background in math; I personally did not find his lectures helpful and ended up skipping out on every lecture to learn it myself. Final grade depends entirely on test performance.
Narrates clearly and helpfully writes on slides or on the side (for examples). Has tests formatted like homework problems and prefers talking instead of typing. Simple vocabulary to follow along, teaches according to the slideshow mostly. The textbook is mainly supplemental.
I took MTH 266 through NOVA Online. Late assignments are not accepted, and no practice exams are provided. You will need to stay motivated and manage your time well. NOVA uses AI to monitor academic integrity even activity on Discord with masked IP addresses can be traced. Some students were caught sharing quiz answers in Discord.
He is the worst professor I've had. He has no idea what he's doing. The exams aren't that difficult if you teach yourself the material. He doesn't monitor exams, but then accuses students of cheating without any proof. His rating is "high" because students cheat and get easy A's. He chooses random students and claim they cheated. Extremely rude!
This was the second time I had taken this professor and I love his math classes! I always want to fully understand the concepts taught. If I had questions, they were always answered. The homework reflected the content in class and what was in the textbook. His test reviews always covered everything on the test so there was good test preparation
EDIT: He added the slideshows. It seems he will follow through, but it will take a while. He assigns a lot of ALEKS assignments
This was me and my brother's favorite math professor. He is a super fair grader and will only take off partial credit on questions as long as you put something down. Very caring and a super kind person.
Haja was actually a very lax professor. He answers every question that you will ask and will make sure that you understand by the end of what he says. Although, everything is very ALEK's heavy. ALEK's can be such a bore but it is imperative that you do each module earlier than you think. ALEK's is everything. Even the tests are generated by ALEK's.
I enrolled based on ratings, but the class felt closer to high school precalculus than college-level and didn't prepare me for calculus. Lesson learned: ratings and Reddit aren't always reliable.
I would down four redbulls before the 3 hour class in hopes that I would flatline before making it to the building. Only people who got A's were googling every test answer. He gives copious amounts of ALEKS homework, which is essentially a recipe for a crippling drug addiction. They're graded by accuracy and he told us to use AI to get 100%. Classy
Professor Haja is an amazing professor, He made the class very easy. The only issue with this class is there are lots of homework that you have to do every week .
