I absolutely LOVE Hak Seon!!! he's a really great prof. he's great at lecturing and he's very fair with tests and quizzes. and he's just so adorable with his accent and how he chuckles at random things. and if someone does something odd he pauses and then says "I like that". i really would like to have another class with him.
Dr. Lee is a great teacher. There is a good deal of reading, and there are 10 quizzes on discussion readings which are very easy. Tests can be difficult if you haven't read, but he covers a lot of test material in his lectures
Hak-Seon is the man. Really nice guy. also wow at the person who compared him to some kind of stuffed animal.
He's completely wonderful. His accent can be kind of hard to understand, but the powerpoint makes what he's saying pretty easy to figure out. He's a terribly nice man. If he can't answer a question in class, he'll send an email to everyone a few hours later after he's researched the answer.
hak seon is an awesome professor, and very approachable and sweet. once you get used to the accent, you will understand the lecture. tests and weekly reading quizzes are multiple choice, but arent easy if you havent studied.
REALLY nice guy and probably a great professor for political science majors....but not so good for a gen ed. class. He teaches as if the students have a background in global politics, but I didn't because that's not my major! Take him if its for a major class, don't take him for a gen ed! SUCH a nice guy and makes jokes occasionally too!
Hak-Seon is not only hilarious but also a good prof who is incredibly patient and approachable. Take him no matter what.
Hak seon is a great guy! Very caring about his students, and he wants them to succeed. He's very funny and laughs at himself. Take him, it takes a week or two to get used to his accent, but there is a lot to learn from him!
Don't let my number ratings fool you, the class sucks but Lee definitely does not. He's really chill and funny as well. If you're having trouble with the class he'll be glad to answer any questions you have . My only problem is that he tends to teach like everyone's a poly sci major and since he's from Korea his english isn't so good. recommend.
DO NOT TAKE THIS GENED. Can't understand his accent, tests are literally impossible (average is 60 on each of them)and attendance is mandatory. He teaches like everyone is a polisci major. Take any other class but this one. Hakseon is hilarious, but if you have no interest in global politics you will do terribly.
Hak Seon is a great man, but I would not say that he is a great professor. In theory, he is good (elaborating off of slides for further detail) but with his thick accent, it makes learning the material EXTREMELY difficult. This class is mandatory for POSC majors, so be aware that you will have to work, and this class will not be easy! Good luck!
If you want to laugh really really hard, take him. If you want to learn nothing and be confused, take him. He is a total babe though!
Hak Seon is a great guy. I really enjoyed his class. He is hilarious and it's fun to go to class. However, his accent is thick and could take some getting used to, but it's not how everyone makes it to be. Just study for the exams, show up, and take some notes. You'll be fine.
He's a great guy. Funny. Knows his stuff. Use the textbook and his office hours to your advantage. Class set up is also nice because you know when quizzes are ahead of time, no surprises. There might be a few times when you can't understand him because of his accent but he reiterates things anyway.
Hak Seon is a very sweet and funny man. his accent can be difficult to understand sometimes but you get used to it eventually. however, i would not take this class again. his tests are IMPOSSIBLE. i studied for nine hours for the final and still only got a 78. BEWARE
Professor Lee is the man. If you can't get a B or higher in this class then you don't belong at JMU as long as you go to classes. He emphasizes what is important and that will help guide you to good grades on exams. Go to his office hours. Go to class and an A is not too hard to get.
Dr. Lee is absolutely adorable and the sweetest man ever! Yes, his accent was difficult to get used to, but his lecture notes are very clear and straight from the textbook. He's also very helpful in office hours and respects students who put forth effort. Quizzes are easy and tests are very fair! Would definitely recommend!
Love Hak-Seon. He's so adorable and the class is interesting. I would definitely take him if you're interested in International Relations.
Hak Seon is definitely the man! he is my favorite professor at JMU. this is what you need to know going in....accent (sit close and u get used to it). tests are not easy (study slides, skim textbook, and defintiely do the study guide. He is really interesting and class goes by quickly. I looked forward to every class. TAKE HIM
the accent takes some getting used to but he is really easy if you just pay attention.
I loved this class. With his accent, he can be kind of hard to understand, but just ask him to clarify and he is not offended. If you do the study guides, the tests are no problem. He is one of those professors who wants you to get a good grade. Print off the powerpoints before going to class and take notes on them. Great class!
Looking forward going to class every time. Hakseon is very helpful, knows his stuff, intelligent, although he talks a lot- all the material covered in class is interesting. Tests are fair if you do the study guides!
Hakseon is really awesome. He makes class interesting because he has a unique personality. Quizzes every Friday on article readings, but they arent hard. The tests are difficult, but his study guides are legit. If you pay attention in class, you will do pretty well. Hakseon rules.
Dr. Lee is the best! he is funny, passionate and engaging! just gives multiple choice exams that are straight off the study guide. he is one of the best professors at JMU. TAKE HIM!
Hard class, but if you study and pay attention, you will do fine. Lee is HILARIOUS. This was my hardest class, but I looked forward to it because of his humor. He also answers questions well and emails fast. TAKE HIM IF YOU GET THE CHANCE!!!!
Hak Seon is the best! He's so funny, so engaging, explains things really well! I had him two years ago and he's still one of my favorite professors at JMU! He's very sweet and approachable, so helpful at office hours. Personally, tests weren't bad if you go to class and do the study guide.
Lee is my all time favorite professor, take his class if you can!! You definitely have to do the reading and pay attention in class, but if you do that you can get a good grade. He's also really helpful in his office hours. He's the nicest funniest professor I've ever had and his class is interesting.
Dr. Lee is my favorite teacher! He's so funny in class and I look forward to it every Mon. Wed. Fri. His tests are hard but after going to just one office session with him I IMMEDIATELY improved. Quizzes are easy if you do the reading and help with your grade. He is the best. Recommend!
Professor Lee is an amazing professor. Weekly quizzes that are the easiest thing in the world, and four exams (Final Exam NOT cumulative). Every test comes with a study guide. It's a lot of material, but if you fill in the study guides well enough you will do great. If you ever have any questions, go to his office hours, they are always helpful!
I took Lee's international affairs course freshman year and it was awesome! so i decided to take him again for INTA 295, it isn't going as well. I have found his lectures to be hard to follow and his explanations to be hard to understand. He is a very hard grader and does not curve. He's a really nice person, I just don't like his teaching style.
VERY GOOD CLASS, NOT HARD, IF YOU GO CLASS AND DO THE LECTURES YOU DO'NT NEED TO STUDY SO HARD FOR THE EXAM, HE USUALLY TELLS WHAT IS IMPORTANT AND BEFORE EVERY TEST HE GAVE A VERY HELPFUL STUDY GUIDE. HE IS ADORABLE AND AFTER 2 CLASSES YOU WILL BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND HIS ACCENT.
Great professor. Has a heavy accent, but you get used to it. He really does care that his students learn the material and do well. Also quite funny.
Great teacher! If you plan on taking POSC230 make sure it's with Professor Lee! He cares about your grade and if you put in an effort you'll get a good grade. Didn't buy either book and I will get either a B+ or A-.
Insanely good class, not easy, but you;ll learn more in this than any other poll sic class there is. He is an AMAZING professor that enlightens you with more knowledge than you think you could ever know. Take him as an upperclassmen
s just so good, very interesting, always available to help, and in average easy exams. Long lectures but he explain everyone of them.
He's very nice, take him! First week everybody struggles with his acdent, but you will get used to it, don't worry, very helpful during office hours
Hak-Seon is the most amazing man in the universe and the best professor anyone could hope to have.
Took this class over maymester and it was very challenging. Very grateful he taught this class. Had the 9-12 class M-Th and he was available in his office until 5 everyday to help with homework, going over material and papers. Can be hard to understand but ask him after class just go to his office and he tells you exactly what you need to do.
Hak Seon is really funny. He can get off topic sometimes but it's always interesting. He puts all of his lecture slides and everything you need to pass the tests and quizzes online. He is really good at answering questions as long as they are specific. His accent is difficult to understand at first and his english is sorta broken so beware.
Professor Lee is an amazing man. He is really there for you. His lectures are pretty interesting. You don't need the textbooks if you attend his classes. There were 4 tests/exams and reading quizzes. If you go to class, you'll be fine.
Dr. Lee is a great guy. I got over his accent and was able to understand him no problem after the first week. You only have 4 tests and 9 quizzes based on readings NO PAPERS and NO CUMULATIVE FINAL. The tests can be challenging but he gives you a study guide and his office hours are super helpful. He is truly there for you if you reach out.
Hak-Seon truly cares about your success in his class. If you reach out to him he is more than willing to help you in any way possible, he is so kind and has a quiet sense of humor. The work is very manageable, 2 tests, one long paper split into two parts, and lab assignments. Not an easy A but definitely possible if you put the time and effort in!
Dr. Lee is an amazing professor! As long as you show up for class, read for the homework, and steady studiously for the exams, you'll do fine! (Srsly tho, study for those exams!)
Professor Lee is hilarious and knowledgeable! He is hard to understand at first but it will become easier with time. Attendance is mandatory. 3 tests, short 5 question quizzes every Friday, and a 4 page paper. Go to class and study for tests and you'll do great!
Hakseon is a great and really funny professor! Loves his students and wants them to do well! That being sad, the exams are very challenging. An A is attainable but most people end up leaving with a B or C. He curves the exams but the class average is usually a low C. Take this course but be ready to study hard!
Sweetest little Korean man, you can tell he's really passionate about what he teaches. He's so adorable and funny, and is a fair grader. 3 tests and 1 paper and 10 article quizzes (very fair grader, do the Friday readings and you'll be fine). Print off the lecture before class and take notes on it during class and use those2study for the tests
Hak-Seon is awesome. class is really interesting and he does a great job teaching it. He assigns a lot of reading and epects you to do it but if you go to class and take good notes it isnt very necessary. Never used the textbook. Tests are challenging but if you get to know him outside of class and go to his office hours he is really helpful.
Great, Honorable, Respectable, Best and one of the easiest professor in JMU. Take him If you can.
Dr Lee is an awesome guy who genuinely cares about his students. His class was extremely easy and I only used the textbook to study vocabulary before tests!
Lee is the best teacher I've ever had. Cares so much about his students and is more than willing to meet with you outside of class. Tests are difficult but study a lot and you'll be fine. I want to hug him.
One of my favorite professors! I would take anything he teaches
Super High professor. Take him and hopefully you will also be high person.
Dr. Lee is really funny and nice. He explains most lectures very clearly. The only bad thing was that there were quizzes every week on a couple articles on current events that we don't discuss in class. Otherwise really good professor and would recommend!
Best Professor I've ever had. He's funny but intelligent too. Tests are super easy. Only 2 quiz and 1 paper. So easy to get an A in his class.
He is an amazing professor. He is hilarious, and really knows what he's teaching. He is so knowledgeable on the material and is able to communicate it to his students. I highly recommend taking him if you get the chance. Honestly, Dr. Lee is so good professor.
If someone ask me this question, Will you like to take Hak Seon Lee again? My answer is, YES; OF COURSE. No doubt at all. Because Dr. Lee is one of the best professor in JMU.
Hak Seon is definitely the most caring, comapssionate professor I've ever had. He had office hours Mon-Thurs & one time I went in & somehow ended up talking about my personal problems & he stayed an hour late & listened & gave me really good life advice. As a professor, he grades papers really easily & his exams are average. He loves his students!
One of the best professors at JMU. He really cares about the students and their grades. Easy quizzes and tests.
chill dude good class chill class good dude. The coolest teacher and overall guy I've met at JMU so far really cares about his students and about the material. Down to earth and understanding.
Yall, Hak Seon is awesome. You do need to show up and you really need to pay attention. A lot of the questions he asks on exams are things he says in lecture and really emphasizes. He may be a little disorganized, but he tells you everything you need to know. Hes hilarious and once you get used to the way he talks, his class is easy to follow
One of my favorite professors I've ever had! Even though it was a really big class, he still learned most of our names and faces. He's hilarious and cares a lot about his students. His tests aren't bad if you study a LOT. I'm taking another of his classes next semester because I enjoyed this class with him so much!
This was my second class that I've taken with Dr. Lee and he is such a gem. This class was pretty boring because it's a research-focused class (he even said so himself at the beginning of the semester) but he makes it much more tolerable with his funny lectures and stories. He cares so much about his students. Take his class!
Dr. Lee is not a bad professor, don't get me wrong! However, he has started partisan discussions that make me feel uncomfortable about my personal views. Again, he's a nice guy and he's funny but his class is not hard but not easy. He gives amazing study guides with a lot of info that is needed for the test.
Dr. Lee is very passionate about the material in the class. He often became side tracked during lectures, so he rushed to finish the material the last classes before the tests. The tests were okay, but he worded some of the questions in a complicated way. This class requires a lot of ready, however, the reading is interesting.
The only B I got in college :(
Dr. Lee is a very nice professor, and I wish his class was in-person. However, when the class is taken online it is quite a bore. The reading is very frequent and at times hard to keep up with. However, not all of the reading is necessary. I wouldn't say I enjoyed the class but I learned a fair amount from it, which is what's important.
POSC 240 is an easy class if you put in the work. Read the textbook chapters and take some notes and you will do great on the quizzes. Professor lee is also very caring of his students and loves to chat and answer questions whenever you need.
Don't get me wrong; Dr. Lee is not a bad professor! However, he does get into partisan discussions at times that do make me feel uncomfortable about my own views. However, he is a decent professor! His tests are extremely hard and can be done better. You NEED to do the supplemental readings to get a good grade.
Hak Seon is one of the best professors in the department! Your grade is based off of 3 tests, a paper, and weekly quizzes (the quizzes are based off of articles and very straight forward). He assigns a lot of reading which I would highly recommend doing since there is a lot of content in this class, and he gives study guides before each test
Professor Lee isnt a bad professor. However, I would not recommend taking him because he is not one who will budge on his policies. Personally, I think its nice to have professors who are more lenient. Due to personal issues, I was a few days late on turning in the final, and my overall grade tanked from a B to a D. My fault ? Yes. Harsh ? Yes.
First and foremost the class itself isn't the easiest, but he tries his hardest to make it enjoyable and easy. He often gets sidetracked, which leads to a lot of catching up, but he's so easy to talk to. There are quizzes every Friday, but the articles are usually not long and pretty easy to read. READ THE TEXTBOOK AND GO TO CLASS. He curves!
Disclaimer: I'm terrible at statistics, and I worked HARD for my B+. Dr. Lee is great - kind man who's very passionate about research and wants you to do well. The class itself was very math-focused and scientific, and you do a lot with SPSS. Tough class and you have to work to do well, but it's possible! 2 exams, 2 papers, 1 SPSS exercise/week.
I loved Dr. Lee, he was a fun and engaging lecturer and was able to get through a lot of work in 50 minute class segments. The only warning I have is 3 exams were worth 90% of your grade which makes them stressful but I appreciate how the exams weren't cumulative. Attendance isn't mandatory but HIGHLY encouraged.
I loved Dr. Lee. POSC 230 was all lectures, but his were engaging. In this class, 3 tests made up 90% of your grade, so beware if you aren't a good tester. He's funny and often curves. I also had several situations where I needed to talk to him outside of class and he got back to me quickly with times he was available. DR. LEE IS THE BEST!!
Dr. Lee was my first ever Political Science Professor when I started attending JMU this past fall. - knowledgeable on international relations - the textbook is free, with assigned readings - stay on top of the readings - ask questions after class!! - he curves his tests but that doesn't mean that you don't have to try! -his lectures move quickly
I loved professor Lee! his lectures were engaging and interesting and he really cares about his students doing well. He has a decently strong accent but after a class or two it becomes much easier to understand.
Dr Lee is such a sweet man, and although the test in this class are hard and the material is sometimes tougher to grasp, it is really worth it. He is incredibly smart and is aware that the material is hard, so will often curve tests pretty generously. He does have a pretty strong accent, but after a few classes you barely notice.
Dr. Lee is good, just not the best. He is kind and cares how you do in the class though. You absolutely have to read what he assigns and take notes on what he says, so copy the slides prior to class. He will clarify almost anything and is easy to access and understand. There really isn't much actual graded work, and the tests are tough but fair.
Dr. Lee is great! There are lectures most days, but they are relatively interesting and he always tries to make them as engaging as possible. There are weekly quizzes that can be easy A's if you go to the discussions. The exams are diffucult but fair. He does have a strong accent that can be difficult to understand at times. Overall, a great class
Love him! Test heavy and can be hard if you don't go to class and study. He does curve and there's quizzes online every weekend on the readings. Sometimes hard to understand (accent), but is better if you take notes before class. Says stuff in class that WILL be on the tests and not on Canvas, so go! 100% recommend if you can apply yourself.
Professor Lee is super nice and funny. Throughout the semester you only do 2 quizzes, 2 exams, and research paper. His lectures can get long and a little boring, however he does posts the slides(it's important to still show up to class because sometimes he will say things you need to know for the exam that's not on the slides). Material can be hard
Professor Lee is awesome and so funny. Just going to echo what everyone else is saying: TESTS ARE HARD!!! quizzes are super easy and you will ace them all if you take your time. Exams are all multiple choice and make up 90% of your grade. He is a great teacher and you should take him but expect a B-B+ unless you're the MJ of International relations
Dr. Lee is a super kind nice guy. He's pretty inflexible in terms of missing weekly quizzes and the 3 exams but that's pretty understandable. You definitely need to do the reading every day for the quizzes and exams. Go to class, take notes, and study - the course is super dense.
Despite a thick Korean accent, his lectures were great and humorous. Dr. Lee is very kind and helpful, he does an amazing job at explaining and preparing us. Tests can be difficult but doable if you take the time to study.
Dr. Lee is an amazing IR instructor! I will say that attendance is not tracked in his class however, I advise you to attend and take notes. This class has 3 exams, which make up 90% of the total grade! He is very passionate and determined to help you succeed in his class and in following classes that model IR. Go to class, study, and ask questions!
silly guy. very knowledgeable on international relations. lecture every monday and wednesday, discussion of current events on friday. attendance isn't mandatory but he discusses things not mentioned in his slides that WILL be on the exams. 3 exams, 9 or so mini quizzes. he's great.
Professor Lee was one of my favorite teachers this semester, he is such a funny, caring man. He has a heavy accent so kind of hard to understand at times, 3 exams are worth 90% the other 10% is from quizzes that he talks about during the "discussion" class every Friday. Attendance is not mandatory, but I would recommend. Always has office hours.
Dr. Lee was definitely my favorite professor this year. While attendance in his class isn't mandatory, I'd HIGHLY recommend attending as he usually has extra info that is only shown in class.
Wallahi that's my goat. Aspiring international affairs student, this is my first IA class, and he did an amazing job of laying down the fundamentals and basics of IA. The most complaints I've seen are about his accent, but they just gotta lock in and peep game. There's 3 exams and 10 quizzes that are the cumulative grade, very clear study guides.
Dr. Lee has been one of my favorite people I have ever met. He is a sweet caring man with a heart of gold. He is a great lecturer and is very helpful. Class is very test heavy 3/30% each with weekly quizzes 10/1% each give or take. Study and you will succeed. LOVE THIS GUY
very nice, but his class was awful. class was a lecture and he over-explained everything, just making it more confusing. We had 3 exams and 10 reading quizzes the entire semester. Although attendance was not mandatory, he put things on the exams you could only get if you were in class. He made study guides for all the exams but they were awful.
Tests are a big chunk of the grade, attendance is not mandatory but if you go he practically tells you everything that will be on the test so its definitely worth your time. Great lectures
I have had Lee for both 230 and now 397, he is a great professor! He is super caring and gives good lectures; he posts all his lecture slides. However for 397 the subject itself is not that interesting in my opinion but I do love him as a professor!
He was a very nice and funny professor. He also did a good job of going over what will be on the test and explaining the coursework.
prof lee is amazing!! the class has a textbook, articles, and typically 2 articles specific to the quizzes on Friday. although this sounds like a lot, but it's chill bc there's not rlly hw. I'd say his class is lecture heavy in the sense that u have to be there bc sometimes he'll say "this is important to remember". for the most part, great prof!!
Class was test heavy. 3 tests worth 90% of your grade. They can be difficult and you will need to study but it won't be too bad if you do so. His office hours are good because he will sorta tell you what's on the test. Can feel very overwhelming at first (esp. as a first year) but don't let it scare you too much. He is a pretty friendly guy.
Dr. Lee is really great, but the class is very much lecture based. M/W classes are lecture and F is discussion based on 2 readings (those readings not on exams) and quizzes online after (can skip F classes). Attendance not required but needed on M/W because his slides aren't super detailed and can be confusing. Overall pretty good class.
Professor Lee was pretty solid. I personally took notes before class based off the slides that he sends out beforehand. That helped me focus on the important things that he highlighted during class. My one critique is that he is somewhat politically biased, but he was still a solid professor. Study well for the exams, last one is not cumulative.
The sweetest guy ever and cracks jokes in lectures. However, can be hard to follow because there are some days he speeds through. Provides study guides for exams, which make up 90% of your grade, and a free textbook online.
