If you can come to class and take notes an easy A. Take the multiple choice exams even if you don't read; I passed with flying colours.
Worst teacher I have ever had. Very rude and makes fun of people who attend HFCC.
Attendance is required for this class or else you MUST find someone who takes good notes. Read the books. The multiple choice tests are easiest. He can be a butthead sometimes. Altogether alright though.
Best teacher I have had for history so far. Makes class at least somewhat interesting, although if you don't ever show up then you are screwed.
Dr. Friedman was the best teacher I've ever had! He made history interesting, and tought topics I knew nothing about. You have to stay focused and take good notes to do well in the class, otherwise you won't! He is also VERY FUNNY!
I liked the class very much. yes! it is hard and no he does not fool around the facts, he makes very corny jokes. you must show up and take notes. no room for slackers, he like it if you asked questions
Dr Friedman is a millatry historian, so alot of his history is basied off that, very informative although a bit corny. I will be taking him again for the second term of Amer history.
Friedman is a very organized and predictable prof. Don't let him trick you into taking the essay tests, his grading is impossible. Don't read, hang on every word he says in his lectures, and only take the M.C. tests and you'll do fine.
he is very stupid i hated his class he failed me because he hated me good luck who ever takes him
the hardest teacher you will ever have honestly he is vey difficul ,he makes you no nothing and fail alot of people
I loved his classes! He's a great professor, and personally I did best on the essay tests. His lectures are very organized and you'll learn a lot. I hated history until I had Dr. Friedman, I only wish he taught at UMD so I could still see him. He's an EXCELLENT, TOP NOTCH PROFESSOR!!!!!
very hard teacher and there is no way any body passes his class i'm a 4 gpa and i failed his class
very bad teacher
Great guy, thinks he is funny but he really knows his stuff. Easy A if you take notes and can read, yes folks it's college read and study even you can pass this class.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS TEACHER!!!!!!!!!
all the bad comments for this professor are from people who are morons. i didnt even do any of the readings. i just listened and took notes. and still got an A. he offers a multiple choice test which is an easy A if you paid attention.
this teacher is very hard to follow along with, he gives way too many notes and his tests consist of questions that he might of mentioned once during class, I swear he makes the questions up just from what he knows, not from what he teaches you. The lowest grade (C)I have ever gotten in my college career was from his class. Don't take this teacher!
This guy has a "thematic approach to history," which means that he ignores the who-what-when-where and focuses exclusively on "why." So if you don't already know what happened, you won't find out here.More like a sociology class than history. I got an A, and the only thing I learned is that the USA is successful because of plants that grow here.
dont get tricked by anyone this teacher is very hard and he makes u read three history books that u cannot understand any thing . whoever said hes an easy a is LYING.
this is a excellent sexyass tecaher if you take him you are one lucky son of a ****
I had a great time in this class, one of the easiest classes of my 4 years of school. no memorization, I got an A- and only read the review part at the end of each chapter in the books. If you hate memorization this is for you, If you can't understand anything unless its perfectly spelled out for you, then take someone else.
this teacher is so bad in teaching. yea he's funny sometimes and makes listening to his lecture fun but guess what?? it's no related to his exams at all, u get out of the exam thinking u did so good but u get surprised with the results. plus he gives special to certain students over others. I don't recommend him unless you wanna ruin ur record
Dr.Friedman is one of the best professors at HFCC. True, he is no easy A--but one does not really benefit from those 'easy A' teachers anyway. Friedman made history fun & interesting, I truly enjoyed his lectures and would definitely recommend him to non-slackers that really want to learn.
It is pretty hard to get an A in this guys class and he favors some students more than others. He knows what he is talking about though, thats for sure. He is very close-minded and if you write a paper, it has to be his way of thinking for you to get an A. Not too bad of a teacher but not recommended.
Mr. Friedman appears to have a Napoleonic Personality, He has his own views on events and thats okay, But its suppose to be a course in instruction and facts, He really loses the interest of his students, And his use of profanity needs to cease.
He is a hard teacher but you learn a lot from him. He is extremely intelligent but again a hard grader. Expects a lot but it is beneficial in the end.
History is interesting but this class not so much...a lot of note taking and it is rather boring. Not a fun teacher doubt I would recommend him. Not really necessary to buy the text books either.
Interesting teacher. I think he is a cool guy but not soo much for a teacher. He swears alot during his lectures- swearing doesnt bother me but when its used in every sentence every day it gets a little annoying and distracting.Complete different type of hist.class- not the memorization but more like what went on in thier heads-a little strange.
THIS CLASS WAS BORING AND IT WAS ALOT OF NOTETAKING. BUT HE IS A VERY FUNNY TEACHER I LOVE HOW HE ALWAYS TALKS ABOUT HOW HIS WIFE IS ALWAYS IN CHARGE. HE KNOWS THE MATERIAL VERY WELL HE TALKS ABOUT HISTORY LIKE HE WAS THERE. I WOULD RECCOMEND HIM YOU LEARN ALOT FROM HIM. I NEVER THOUGHT HISTORY WOULD BE SO INTERESTING.
I really do not know why people crap on him, he is not a bad teacher. He really knows his material and he is the most funniest history teacher that I know. Just pay attention, read (if necessary), participate and do well on the papers. Just do not be an idiot and you will do fine.
Hal is a smart teacher. He wants his class engaged and not texting or falling asleep. I probably won't get an A or B in his class because you have to do the reading but I know alot about history!
Not a horrible teacher, kind of funny, LOVES swearing! Extremely knowledgeable and probably a genius! You really don't HAVE to read or participate (20% of grade) if you can get A's on the papers. I did and got a B+ Also, don't try to figure out his grading scheme--you can't.
Good teacher, easy to get a good grade as long as you show up everyday. DO NOT BUY THE TEXT BOOKS, you don't ever need to read them, all he does is lecture.
Very funny guy. He loves to swear and has a good sense of humor. He is EXTREMELY smart when it comes to history, this guy knows what he is talking about. You will learn alot from him. Also, there was a lot of reading for this class. He is hard on his grading and I could never get past a B.
This teacher enjoys tricking students into giving wrong answers on tests. If wishes were butterflies, he'd be the boy trapping them in a net so that he could pull off their wings.
Mr. Friedman is really a great teacher. He knows what he is talking about. I love when he swears, its so funny. I tried hard to get an A, but I got a B-. I should of read more. Read,a and listen, you'll do great in his class.
This teacher knows his stuff, but is extremely hard. I tried desperately to get an A and got a B-. He seems to enjoy being a hard grader. He is very nice and his class is interesting. You need to record lectures because he goes so fast, and the tests come straight from the lectures. If your looking for an easy A, take another class.
Had him for the winter semester that just ended a few months back. Really enjoyed the class. I am a history major (or plan to be when I transfer to a university), and I still didn't find this class easy. It wasn't hard, but you do need to take notes. Dr. Friedman is a good teacher. Take him if you want a good history class, but not necessarily easy
I worked so hard for this course, read all the books assigned, and had good attendance. ended up with a B- I wish i did not waste my time studying.
Horrible Teacher he doesn't care whether you grasp the material or not....
Do not take him! you cannot get an A in this class even if you study your butt off. I studied all my notes but when it came to his tests they were EXTREMELY tricky. there is no way you can get an A. I passed the class with a b- but only cause of good attendance. Class is based on 4 tests which you'll prob get c's on or fail!
The professor is very clear about what he expects from his students. Dr. Friedman is extremely passionate about his class and very critically honest about reality. He expects the best from his students and that is a VERY good thing. Also, he is ALWAYS available, whether its by phone, e-mail, or office visit. Take him ONLY if you want to LEARN!
Interesting teacher if History is your thing. Grades harder than all the other History teachers. Attendance is absolutely mandatory if you wish to get an A.
Prof. Friedman is very thorough in his lectures. He always puts the topics on the overhead and gives a lot of info. The books he asigns for the class are for you to read and not really gone over in class. If you read the books and take good notes you will do well. Make sure you show up and you will not have much trouble. Just don't take the option
only grades in the class are from tests, which are really hard. you have to read these really boring history books and pay really close attention to pass. he doesn't talk about the books in class at all, but still expects you to understand everything. even though it's history since the civil war, i haven't learned anything useful. awful teacher.
you might not be able to take an A in his class. But it is very inriching expeince,Dr. friedman is very smart and knows what is he talking about and I like he is funny. Attend the class, listen carefully, take notes, and read what is required and you will pass with about B+
I like Dr. Friedman class very much it's interesting but yet hard
Friedman is an excellent lecturer and his classes are well planned and organized. The class is however, the most difficult I've taken since enrolled at HFCC. Grades are based on attendance and tests alone. I am a 4.0 student and am pulling an A- in the class. Be prepared to study very well for exams, as they have the only impact on your grade.
Dr. Friedman is an extremely good teacher. His lectures are very interesting and always stay on topic. If you pay attention and take ALOT of notes his tests are a breeze. You must take notes or you will fail this class. The only people that find this class hard are people that don't pay attention or show up. 10/10 Will be sure to take him again
He is a liberal-progressive historian, which is disappointing. You learn a lot of about how women and black slaves were treated in Colonial America, but not a lot of about anything else.
Professor Friedman's class is pretty difficult, but if you actually pay attention to his lectures and take good notes it will help a lot. Make sure to study thoroughly for his tests and bring dictionary! He makes the questions on his tests hard to comprehend but not impossible. He does cuss a lot which kind of annoyed me but overall good professor.
He was a pretty good teacher. Knew very well what he was talking about, but you have to pay attention and take good notes, possibly bring in an audio recorder to help with the tests.
Though his lectures provide good information, and you can tell he knows what he's talking about, the tests are kind of difficult. There is a lot of reading that he requires you to do, and you do not discuss it in class. However, I hardly read the three books and I have a B+ or A-. So, if you take good notes and read a little bit, you're good.
Dr. Friedman did not communicate well with students. Changed due dates often and sometimes would not respond to emails about due dates. Missed a paper because of his inability to clarify the due date. DO NOT RECOMMEND!
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!! HE IS VERY INCONSIDERATE AND HE IS VERY RUDE. HE HAS NO MANNERS AND HE DOES NOT CARE TO HELP ANYONE. HE COMES IN WITH A HORRIBLE ATTITUDE EVERYDAY. ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY AND IF YOU COME IN 30 SECONDS LATE HE WILL NOT LET U IN.. AGAIN DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
Friedman shouldn't even be a teacher. I hope he is reading this. He cursed a lot and he was very disrespectful. He also makes you feel very uncomfortable. If your looking for an A or a B do not take him.
Worst teacher I ever had. His class is extremely hard and is almost to get an A in. Do not take this teacher.
I liked him at first. I enjoyed the fact that he got our attention by cussing cause it was out of no where and he tried not to make it so boring. Although, as the weeks went by he called me out in class A LOT and I just sit there. I found it rude. Also there was nothing really to study so take avid notes if you want to pass.
Dr. Friedman prides himself on having a high failure rate according to him. His class average is B- and below. If you come to class late, he won't let you in. If you miss class, you miss vital notes. You will read about 550 textbook pages. You're graded on 4 exams and attendance. He will try to trick you on tests. A students beware!
He is the worst teacher that i have every come into contact with at HFCC. He swears ALL the time, i understand swearing here and there but it's every other word that comes out of his mouth, he will not listen to anyones questions and will make fun of students and HFCC. I have very little respect for this teacher. Good Luck if you take him.
Friedman is not easy whatsoever. However, if you study a decent amount and have a great attendance rate, you will do well. Also, ready the books. There are no grades on assignments so make the exams count.
Need to be more accurate with the readings, slow down during lectures, and at least HELP students who are in need of boosting their grade
Professor Friedman's class is one of the toughest I've ever had. If you are willing to read the textbook (about 250 pages for every test),and pay very close attention to his lectures then you can expect to do good in his class. If you don't read the textbook you will probably fail the class. Your grade is based on attendance and 4 tests.
I'm never one to drop classes but I couldn't stand this guy. He's mean and thinks he's funny. He's boring. The class is bogus. I dropped it after a couple weeks. Do not take a class with him !!!!!!!!!
a lot of cussing and odd topics for class. for example we had one on white castle!? no help whatsoever. would not take him again.
First things first, make sure you get to class on time. He locks the door when class starts and doesnt let you in if late. When in class MAKE SURE you pay attention and are taking notes or he will humiliate you in front of the whole class. Class only has 4 exams and thats it. Make sure you read the books he assigns.
do not take him! his lectures are long and boring, he isn't much help. he only gives test and they are pretty long! I would regret taking him!
Horrible, please don't choose him.
Not a bad professor if you show up to class and be a good, college, student; you will have a good time.
Not helpful at all, swears a lot! Lectures dont really help on test.
Them lectures are long and boring but he's clear cut about the class so I like that part but you will have to read all three books in which I hate the most I don't understand my grade on the test and no I won't take him again.
By far the worst teacher I have ever taken at HFC. Your grade is based on only 3 tests. Get ready to read because you have to read everyday. His lectures are long and boring. He's really strict on attendance. If your late by even a minute he closes the door and minuses your points for the day.
Stay clear! Really boring lectures and tough tests. He's also really uptight about attendance.
Gives long lectures and tests are pretty hard. Gives only 3 tests and that's what your grade is based on. Make sure to come to class early because he's picky on attendance and will minus points if your late.
Don't bother taking this professor. Learned my lesson and will never take him again
Really boring lectures that drag on and the books we have to read for class are equally boring. This professor is really strict about attendance. Right when class starts he locks the door and if you come late then you lose your points for the day. His tests are also really difficult.
I only had to take one history class and I ended up with the hardest teacher ever. Boring during lesson. He writes nothing down, so you basically take notes on what he says; he also speaks fast. Will not let you in class if you are late, he locks the doors. 4 long test and final, is the only grading there is with no homework. You will regret 100%!
I had one more class to take to transfer and this was it. He's literally the most garbage professor ive ever had. He doesnt care about you say. He thinks hes much better than HFC. He swears in every sentence thinking its cool I had a C and he failed me because i was late a couple of times only by a few minutes because work literally 2 minutes late
No clear grading criteria, and it will fluctuate assignment to assignment. Do not dare to disagree if you care a out your grade. His feedback often leaves you wondering if he read your work at all. He was very frustrating in that, it felt as though he would assign you to draw a rectangle, then grade you down because you didn't draw a square.
The absolute worst teacher I have ever taken at HFC. His notes are pictures so you have to take notes on what he says. He talks in a monotone and was super strict on attendance. This teacher literally never cared if the whole class was struggling. I would never take him again or recommend anyone taking him.
Really not sure why he got all of these bad reviews, I absolutely love him. His classes are lectures, he makes them entertaining, he's funny and sarcastic. He gives you different points of views that you haven't been taught elsewhere. He doesnt use an actual textbook, has you read a few books. However you can wing it without reading them. Reccomend
Don't understand all the bad reviews.. Just show up to class and take notes and you will be fine. You actually learn in his classes too.
He is a good teacher. If you show up everyday and take notes, you will be fine. He made history as enjoyable as history can be. The one thing I loved about this class is you really have no homework. Your homework is your reading (and its a lot of it) but you can do it at your own pace. I did all my reading on the weekends.
He is a good professor, but can be a smart ass. Very funny in how he presents his lectures. I reccommend taking his history class
Knows what hes talking about. Is able to keep the mood light with comedic relief. Great teacher, just show up, pay attention, and do the readings and youll have no problem.
Very passionate professor. Grade was based 95% on tests/quizzes so participation and attendance don't technically count, you will pay for it when the test comes. Still passed with an A as long as you take notes and read the assigned books.
lecture heavy, make you read 3 books in a semester. does not give lecture on the reading assignments, you would have to figure out by yourself all 3 books. outside the book lecture and test is based on his lecture mostly. though grader.
Best professor for history. His lectures are eye opening and bring an new perspective to preconceived ideas about events in mainstream history. Make sure to read the assigned books.
Dr Friedman is a very passionate and funny professor, I don't know why there is so many bad reviews, just show up listen to the lecture, and the only homework you do maybe 45 minutes or an hour of reading every day. The tests are easy and multiple choice, would definitely recommend him if you are passionate about history.
Class grades were based on 4 tests and 4 quizzes with no other assignments to help your grade, if you don't do well on the exams you won't get the best grade. Professor has foul language in class and wasn't helpful in student's success in class.
Mr. Friedman is a funny and great Professor I haven taken two of his classes and if given the chance I will take him again! His lectures are amazing. No homework assignments just do the readings and study the lecture notes from time to time. His tests are multiple choice easy as long as you pay attention Would recommend him to anyone.
Terrible. Very hard grader and gives unclear guidance. Do not ever choose.
I am distant learning. In this class there are NO online discussion, NO zoom meetings, NO audio lecture. You will be reading three books during the semester on top of reading heavy lectures. I was interested in learning about early US history but at times felt a little overwhelmed. Multiple choice quiz/exams.
I have taken Dr. Friedman three times and he is by far the best Professor Ive had. His lectures are great and easy to understand, and his class is easy as long as you study and do the readings you should do well.
lectures dont relate to the exams.
Let me start off by saying im not sure who wrote the other positive reviews but i dont believe they reflect on Mr. Friedman. Mr Friedman was by far the worst professor ive ever had. He is very rude to our class and his Lectures are very different from his tests. I had him for an online course and it was the worst decision of my life!
Our class was completely online, no in person meetings, no zoom meetings, nothing. He did not keep in contact except to remind us that quizzes were due. He has clearly been using material from when classes were in person and did not accommodate to online learning. He is lazy and not communicative at all, this class was especially difficult.
He is the worst professor at Henry Ford. He does not offer any help and the lectures have NOTHING to do with the quizzes/exams. The only assignments we have are the tests. He offers no additional help or extra credit. When I asked for assistance he was really rude to me and offered me nothing. He constantly tells us to just read the syllabus.
I thought people were exaggerating in these reviews, but now I know they aren't. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. He does not care about you at all! A family emergency happened when I took my first exam. I did badly on it and reached out for a second chance. He said no which really affected my grade. It was a very stressful semester. So glad its over!
There are no graded homework assignments. He gives out about 40 pages of lectures each week and then a test and quiz and that is all that is assigned. I did not learn anything in this class. I would not recommend it.
Professor is terrible I am sorry, the review sheet literally tells you "understand what happened *insert time period*" that is ridiculous. Studied for 3 days and got a 66% this class is near impossible. Do not recommend this teacher also any late work is denied. 0/10.
I am a straight-A student and I have literally never tried harder for any other class than this one and still managed to end up with barely a B- ! His test questions are so confusing and he expects you to know every little detail about history. Super uncooperative, everytime you email him he just tells you to read the syllabus. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
Professor Friedman's is the worst ever. two textbooks and lengthy PDF readings weekly. Exams are battles and need a history professor to answer them. I am a straight A and this class was a struggle for me. If you don't find this class except with Mr.Friedman, DON'T TAKE IT, you will regret it like me. It is not a way to teach history professor!!
The worst, WORST Professor. I asked him a polite question like any other student would and his level of tone was so aggressive that I had to report him to the dean and I even wanted to drop out of the course completely. He also said that If I could not his "Simple procedures" then I should consider dropping his course. I recommend avoiding.
Professor Friedman's classes are a mixed bag - they can be demanding, but engaging if you put in the work. The readings and tests are challenging, but using unstuckstudy and other study tools can really help. Overall, a solid history class if you're up for the challenge.
This is my 6th and final year of college, and I have taken 3 of Dr. Friedman's classes , and they were literally the easiest classes I have ever taken, I don't know why there are so many bad reviews, if y'all can't handle this class, then you shouldn't be in college...
it was an ok class
I'm a straight-A student, and this class was the worst I've taken. I don't recommend taking this professor. Every week, expect a heavy workload, multiple PDF readings and two textbooks. His exams are so challenging and have very hard, detailed questions.
