THE BAD: lecture notes restates text; has strong accent; goes fast and uses terminology that is unexplained; first week did not inform students of class cancelation; Everyone is LOST! THE GOOD: he knows what he's talking about????
Good lecture notes, sort of reads off his lecture notes which are given to students before the class. strong accent but you can still understand him. Tests are a good demonstration of your knowledge.
strong accent, don't need to buy the book, just use his notes, tests are fair
Dr. Yildiz has a real strong accent which at times is hard to understand. He posts all the notes on blackboard, which is good. Read the notes on blackboard over going to his class, because you get the same out of it and sometimes you can get lost in his
"What do we know".......He is an excellent teacher. "Wait a minute and pay attention here I will let you write later"....trys to help out the students as much as he can and is very fair.........."is n't it"
Pretty good prof, just memorize the class notes and you'll get an A like I did
Make sure he gives you print-ups as if you try to keep up with copying is overheads notes, it will force you to get lost very easily. Over all great prof, helps when you need it. Only problems he makes the first midterm too easy, then the rest of the course gets a heck of a lot harder.
You can't just understand the course because of his style and manner of presenting his material.
Very helpful, willing to explain it till you understand! Notes all posted online makes following lectures easy. If you don't know your stuff you deserve to fail, but if you do your work you'll do well.
like him very much
He is the best ever. The opportunity cost of missing one of his class is huge. I guess that this explains his value.
He is very passionate about what he is doing. I have no idea how he manages to teach without any notes. Another mistery is his quicknesss in calculation: he is like a calculator!!!:)))))
Amazing prof, he needs to win prof of the year prize... very helpful, especially when you email him late at night...take any and all the courses you can with this prof. Do all your assignments study his notes and you are on your way to an A+.
this guy is a cool prof he's very clear and passionate about what he teaches and always tests you on the assignment and things you've done in class....i really think he's one of the better ones at ryerson!!!
He is cool, interesting and intelligent. His passion makes me think to pursue further degrees and become academic person. He is the best so far.
Take any course he offers. There is no professor better than him. I don't know why he is here...
He's really good!!!take him if u have the chance, u really do learn alot and his exams are alot like his assignemtns so u know what to expect.
The best, hottest prof in the Economics Department, very helpful, genuine person, nice, beautiful eyes!
best prof. in Economics; not to mention SEXXXY
I like him very much. He is as good as it gets.
I look forward to the second semester. This guy is genius. I enjoyed his class very much. He cares his students. The only difficulty is long assignments and long exams but once you do the assignments and practice questions, you are ready to go. He is a very good dresser.
Very very nice teacher. Always quick and unmissed responds to students' emails. Always available during office hours. Understand students' difficulties. Like him very much.
Very very good and organized way of teaching. His notes are way better than any book available. Beautiful green eyes and like him very much...
he is the best read the letucres do the assignment ready to get A.he is so handsome and like him so ooooooooooooo much
Very good and organized prof. It's easy to understand whatever he's explaining. Love him.
Who rated him as hot? He's balding, and will favour all those "plastics" (the girls in international economics who are all about boys, makeup, and the colour pink). Good prof, but makes you feel stupid. Study the notes...text doesn't really help at all. Do the assignments!
Hes great, he loves what he does, and you can appreciate that. Hes fair, if you take good notes, and you do all the assignments. You'll do well. Very mathematical, if you hate or are bad at math dont take him. Honestly Great! Hes Cute in a European Turkish way!
It is hard to rate him relative to other professors. He is out of the league. He is amazing instructor with a superb knowledge. You should experience him once in your lifetime. Although I am scared about test, I know that I don't care my grade since I really learn. His dressing style is amazing. He never follows a book-should write a book himself.
Awesome professor. He goes very fast, so you better understand while he is whizzing through the material. Do the assignments and you're fine for the midterm/exam. I didn't open the textbook AT ALL. One of my favourite professors. I got an A+.
What a big love-in this site is! Yildiz deserves it, a very good prof. He's only a few years older than I am and has a PH'D! Likes and makes time for ALL his students. Very mathematical course but he doesn't penalize calculation errors much so keep battling. An inspiring academic. Ryerson will be great if they can fine more as dedicated as he.
yildiz and kam should teach every ec. course.
This is the second straight term I had him, and I still maintain what I said. He is the best economics professor in Ryerson. You'll learn a lot and he makes the material simple for you to understand. His tests/assignments are great. Absolutely take any of his classes. You won't regret it. He blows your mind away!
OUTSTANDING PROF! This man's a genius and he's still pretty young. This is very mathematical course. Lots of algebra and some differentiation. I like math so I loved this course! Love the fact that he writes his notes on the board. Don't buy the book, his exams are based on the notes. If you like math, take this course!
I found he was a really hard teacher. He spoke WAY to fast,he as an accent so its hard to understand him sometimes and assumed we already knew what he was talking about. The mid term was 40% and the final was 60%, he did not prepare us well at all,he did not have an exam review.I would not recommended you take this if you struggle with math.
Comment below dated 12/20/10 is misleading. H Yildiz gave us practice questions for both midterm and final. This course is fairly easy. Understand and practice the material 2hrs/week. I didn't even buy the book and got A+ just based on his notes and lectures. Thanks Mr Yildiz.
Amazing teacher. Gave us practice exams for both the midterm and the final. Prepared us well. I didn't even purchase the textbook because his slides are really well done. I'm not good at math and I was still able to pull off an A- by doing the practice questions. Would recommend!
For any ecn class, don't buy the book, unless there is an online component. Pulled off an easy A-, hoping for an A, but I stopped focusing after the midterm, my fault. Somewhat of an accent hard to understand. Still recommend
He was simply perfect. Lots of effort, energy and respect. I loved his personality as well as his beautiful eyes.
One should come and experince his teaching performance once in a lifetime. He is fascinating. I feel the first time that I am a graduate student and learning can not be more fun.
Wonderful professor, shows a great deal of passion in the work and lectures, very helpful. Highly recommend!
He is the most passionate person I have ever met. I felt very lucky to have a chance taking class with him. Sometimes I wonder what an interesting person he could be at home. He is the best professor ever: no mandatory book/attendance but his notes are better than any book available and you will never want to miss any minute of his class.
the best prof ever. go to his lectures, dont buy the book, very easy A+. had an 8am class for 3 hours never slept in that class very interesting prof. he cracks random jokes. the best prof ive ever had.
overall great prof! i really enjoyed being in his class, he clearly knew what he was talking about and presented his knowledge in a way that you could learn easily. Very clear when he speaks and is very helpful during his lectures. you can tell he is very passionate even after the very first lecture. i highly recommend this prof.
He has been my favourite prof this semester. He's very nice and when people asked questions during the lecture, he tried to make sure you understood the material. I think he prepared us very well for both midterms as well as the final exam.
Most passionate and devoted teacher I've had so far at Ryerson. Not an easy class but if you pay attention you will be rewarded with a good grade
No words can explain how good he is. His passion and devotion on economics is absolutely amazing. He is very student friendly prof while his course is the hardest ever course I have ever taken in my lifetime.
Course: very high level, prof: unbelievable, smart and I find him very hot. Take it if you trust your own abilities...
Can there be a better professor? Not that I come across. But if you take Kam in Intro, you will see that you did not learn a thing. Dr. Yildiz is one of a kind.
He made a live teaching show for two nights in the Spring semester. It is a different world of teaching. He might not be the best in Ryerson only but he might be the absolute best. He has aan accent but in a cute way. He is smart and funny. Try to take any of his courses. You will learn a lot...
Not easy HOWEVER you will ACTUALLY LEARN in this class. I am glad I took this course, he might go EXTREMELY fast but he covers the core material you need to know. He ISN'T kidding when he says he is giving enough practice. NO TRICKS on test but LENGTHY. Do NOT take this course accelerated (very intensive!). I recommend Yildiz for any ECN class.
Simply the BEST! The department should give incentive to him to teach all Micro-related courses at all levels. I switched from U of T and I did not see anybody better than him.
The Best Prof at Ryerson. He is extremely helpful and wants his students to do well at the course. This course was tough, but his examples and notes have made it a piece of cake. Highly recommended
Teaches Well. Make sure to attend every class.
He is crazy good in what he is doing. He must lose tons of energy in the classroom, very enthusiastic. You have to go every single class otherwise you will fail...Interesting way of teaching...
NO textbook and only in class notes provided on blackboard, it would be better if he provided power point slides or any electronic notes.
no text book, no lecture notes, mandetory class attendance, no office hours and lack of genuine interest in students. i didn't receive my midterm back until 2 weeks prior the final and answer key wasn't posted till days later. considering there is only a midterm and final, i don't understand why it would take so long.
Attendance and putting effort in is mandatory, because the only material you'll have are you own notes. Has no office hours, or resources outside the classroom for help. 40% mid and 60% final. There is no textbook or PP which makes this course more difficult than it has to be. Upside is that he's very passionate about what he teaches.
Are you kidding me? I believe that the previous two comments came from two losers who do not attend and study at all. This guy is the only professor I can say 100% who cares his students. He knows a lot and tries very hard you get it. Guys, it is not easy to learn: don't be lazy pants an be fair at least...
This fella is genius and the course is really demanding. If you are really into learning, there is no prof better than him. His energy is amazing. Take him if you want to step up.
Demanding course, but amazing professor. No textbok, attendance mandatory. A lot of work is required on your own time to succeed and it's a challenge, but YOU WILL LEARN. He puts so much passion and energy into his lectures you're constantly engage and thinking. Would 100% recommend taking him, I don't regret a minute of it.
He is very good and the course is challenging. But his enthusiasm and energy make everything doable. This guy is one of the best u will learn a lot and not regret it.
One of the best profs at Ryerson. He makes sure hes students understand the concept, he gets really excited teaching. If you take notes and attend hes classes you'll get a good mark. His exams are fair, you just need to study for them.
He is extremely good in what he does. There are two types of Econ students: the ones who took Micro from Professor Yildiz and the others. He prepares you very well for more advanced courses. He is not EZ both you appreciate every second of his lectures.
He's very excited about his course. Therefore, anyone who attends his class will enjoy it a lot. He's class notes are VERY important and also there is no surprises on his exams. Great prof!
He is the most valuable asset that Ryerson has. You are the best professor sir and I respect you for that. Its very sad that your not teaching undergraduate courses any more.
There is good and there is great professor. Dr. Yildiz redefines this ranking by being the greatest in teaching. The recent teaching award is really overdue.
You don't need to buy a textbook but make sure you attend all of his classes. He's really good at explaining concepts and make sure to go to him if yo need help. This class isn't easy so make sure you study. Midterm is worth 40% and final is 60%. Make sure you work extra hard on the final
He is fantastic, serious but humorous. Must take u will be amazed for the entire semester with his passion and intelligence.
The final was extremely hard and very hard to understand him. All he says is "am I right". Avoid at all costs, makes the course more confusing then necessary
Midterm was 40% and final was 60%. Make sure you attend all his classes and take notes since that's what his exams mostly cover. Attendance is important and you don't need to buy a textbook. This class isn't easy, so it's important you put the extra effort.
He is a good prof, he goes very slowly and he makes sure you understand the material. Very enthusiastic about what he is doing. The midterm was easy, class average was 75 cause he said that was the easiest test he had ever written. Do the practice questions he posts on BB. Take his class if you are doing ECN!!
He is world class. The classes are epical: non-stop 3 hours teaching show. Exams are long and tough but you learn a lot and appreciate. Thanks for being so ambitious and student friendly Dr. Yildiz. We all love you.
Going to his 8 AM lectures did not even anger me because he teaches so well. Also you don't need a textbook for this course. You HAVE to go to lectures to get his notes because his exams are based off of them. The midterm was exactly the same as the practice questions he gave us but different numbers etc. Only class I gained knowledge from.
Great prof, just make sure you attend his lectures and study hard for the tests.
Really great professor! He is a must have professor at Ryerson. Really teaches you and encourages his students to do well. Make sure to go to all his lectures, as the midterm and final are both based on in class notes.
This prof does not know how to teach. There is no point of showing up to class just read the lectures at home. His tests are very hard, 40% of students failed this course.
He is fabulous and very knowledgable. His award winning teaching style made his three hour lectures passing by without being bored. The previous posting must from a student who has not been attending lectures and failed the test. The average in the midterm is above 65 and the test was word by word taught by him. I liked his style of teaching
The best economics professor at Ryerson! Has been teaching the course for like 10 years and really knows his stuff. The downfall was that his class was at 8 am but he made it bearable. This was my 2nd class with him and I must say he is truly amazing. There is no textbook everything is based off of his notes.
Fair prof. Helps if you ask him for it. Midterm was fair. Exam was difficult. Course material was based on his slides and practice questions. Textbook was not used.
"Take a look at here", if you want to actually learn MicroECN Yildiz is an insightful professor. His lectures are decent, I fell asleep in his class a few times near the end of the semester since it was getting boring to me; but some of the students managed to stay engaged. His midterm and exam is mainly based on his practice questions. Study hard.
Professor Yildiz is the best professor I have ever had during my study at Ryerson. Going to class is a must. If you skip a class it will be hard to catch up. Classes are 8 AM in the morning, so be prepared. I learnt a lot from this guy. There is one midterm and one final. Study lecture notes and you will be fine. He is a fair marker.
There is only a multiple choice midterm (40%) and final (60%) but they are really hard. He had to curve our midterm 15% and final 20% just to get the average up to par.
he doesn't use textbooks at all. only notes. best prof ever.
Best economics professor i had at Ryerson no textbook needed, only need it to do these math set homework's which prepares you for the midterm and finals. He writes out his notes and once its gone, its gone. so when he says " TAKE A LOOK" look right at the board not at the guy watching netflix or playing League of Legends LOL
Best resource at Ryerson University. His lectures can feel long but he goes over everything slowly and makes sure you understand. Do the practice problems and you will pass. Understand the practice problems and you'll succeed. Be able to apply the knowledge and you'll get perfect. He makes you work in the most fair way possible.
Best prof I'd recommend to take for ecn 104. no textbook but need to attend every lecture. his notes are super clear and he's really good at explaining concepts. make sure you take notes and go to every class and you can get an A. if you do bad on your midterm and good on your final, your mark is gonna be based on your final exam + the bell curve
Very Good at explaining the material. Hard test and exams, But you will understand the material.
Difficult prof who challenges you, but you will learn a lot. Still not exactly sure how I passed the course, I've never been so stressed during an exam. You will learn.
This prof is a terrific teacher, really rare to see so devoted one. Good sense of humor and top level of quality.
This is a very demanding course. You can't skip class cuz there's too much material. 40% midterm & 60% final. Got 45% on my midterm but didn't drop the course cuz he weighs the final and bellcurves depending on how well you do compared to the midterm. If youre not good with derivatives or basic ECN concepts, don't take this class. GPA will go down
Hes a good professor and whats you to understand the material. 40% midterm, 60% final so theres no room to fail. Very calculus heavy, so if youre not good at deriving formulas, avoid him. Most people fail his midterms but its true that he bellcurves if you get a better exam grade. Exam is just as hard as the midterm though, so you need to work
Although he is a tough grader, He has a great passion for Economics. Great respect! We don't have such professors these days. He teaches from his heart and explains as much as possible. Make sure to work hard for it to pass the course. He literally writes and explains everything in class. He might seem scary but he is such a chill man. Respect.
His tests are hard, math heavy, and not much room to fail. If you're not very good with calculus, you're screwed, because you need to derive your own formulas. If you're minoring in ECON, avoid his classes! If you actually want to learn something in Microeconomics, then you will definitely learn. But he makes you work for it! He does bell curve tho
He is fantastico if you wanna learn...
He knows and explains very well. Plus he cares his students...
class is hard but he's a really nice guy, so its hard to give him a bad review.
Halis Yildiz is a excellent professor. His class is tough but he really wants you to learn and understand the content. His lectures are very detailed and are a good basis to study off for tests. This prof taught me how to learn properly and showed how passionate he is teaching economics. Office Hours are also helpful.
My biggest advice is that you pay attention to what he says in lecture instead of focusing on notes. Otherwise a solid choice
1.) really boring monotone lectures, you wont miss much if you skip. 2.) 40% midterm, 60% final. all based off lectures notes and questions are really similar to the practice questions he provides for each chapter. 3.) study on your own, make notes and practice the questions he provides because the lectures will not help you at all.
He was good up until the midterm after that class got moved online and we had the online exam it was extremely difficult
Good lectures but they go up until the last min. Decide if you really need to go. Recommend doing the practice questions he posts, it's exact same wording as the midterm and exam! Midterm was ez, Exam was heavier, COVID moved it to D2L, 75 questions, 1 question/page, chore to go back thru answers, you gotta click 'next or prev'. Gave extra +5%!
The course itself is quite challenging, especially if you haven't taken Econ before but Prof Yildiz explains concepts really well. His tests were also pretty fair. Attendance isn't mandatory but it's in your best interest to go to class cause of his explanations. If you are taking ECN 104, you should definitely try and get Professor Yildiz.
Yildiz is an amazing prof. Out of all ECON teachers, his content is 100% the easiest and he teaches it well to make you understand it. Nonetheless, ECON is a very content heavy subject but very straightforward. If you take the time to study and show up to class, getting 100% in the course is easy. Don't rely on his notes, rely on his lectures.
Terrible distance learning teacher, avoid him until back at Ryerson. Posts youtube videos where he talks super fast and writes super messy.. impossible to follow and 60% exam that was way harder than any other testing material over the semester. AVOID
Does a great job explaining economics so you won't get bored. Gives practice quizzes which are basically the same as the test. Only a midterm (30%) and final (70%). TIP: Study off practice quizzes.
Outstanding human. Very considerate, caring and down to earth. Economics is not a bird course and you must study for it if you want to succeed. He is a great professor, explains phenomenally but the course itself is not for everyone and can become boring at times. Do the work and study - otherwise Dr. Yildiz himself is utterly amazing.
HIs online classes are terrible. delayed audio, and goes way too fast. exam legit was terrible as well. if i can give 0 stars, i wouldve done so
Absolutely worst econ teacher ever. Students in other classes did really well. His videos were terrible and we got no text book to learn from. Didnt provide students with sufficient amount of review questions if any. Never taking this prof again!
ECN104 is a very challenging course. Especially the exam, which I myself found to be very difficult. Pre - exam my overall was a 91 and it dropped to 81 post exam. He is a caring teacher though, just hard course especially the way he teaches.
I'm not sure about in person but for online class I would not recommend. Heard that other students flew threw their finals in other classes whereas I found that I struggled. He goes by very fast in the videos and it becomes quite tedious at times. That exams was unnecessarily difficult given how our other quizzes were.
THE BEST PROF I HAVE HAD SO FAR! He's honestly amazing, sweet and cares about his students! If you have an issue with anything he fixes it. Not strict at all and is very knowledgeable about economics so his lectures are well explained. I wish I could take this Professor again honestly. Yildiz is overall a fantastic prof you will enjoy his classes.
Halis Yildiz was a decent prof. His lectures were just posted as youtube videos with a narration or pdfs that you would have to go through yourself. we had three quizzes worth 20% each and a final worth 40%. This course is entirely knowledge-based so prepare for a lot of memorization. Exams were not proctored however they were not open book either.
Amazing professor for Econ 104, very chill and funny prof with good sense of humour gives real life examples while explaining and gives practise quiz for each lectures and it even comes during quizzes, And exams. If you have him I prefer you to go ahead you wont regret.
He's the professor with a great teaching method and is always there to answer your questions. He's teaching method is a proof that he's very knowledgeable in his field. You only have to make sure that you're prepared to learn when you're in his class! His class has made me become more interested in micro! I would love to have him again as my prof!
All tests are fully proctored via lockdown browser, beware
The whole course is proctored, every single evaluation using proctoring software. This software stresses me out so much as you have to focus on memorization rather than undertanding concepts.. good luck
Best prof ever, he posts videos explaining lectures when other online profs dont, lots of practice questions, take him!
He is a great teacher ... He answers emails quite fast ... I personally did not use the textbook and I didn't show up for most of the lectures ... but the answers are straight from past classes and online ... test don't change.
Just read through all of the material he gives and practice questions are enough to handle this course. Four quizzes with 12.5% each and a 50% final are kinda stressful , and requires mass of mathematical skills. It will be easier if you know derivatives and graphing well cuz that's all this course about.
He is one of the bests in the department. Lectures very good, covers everything that is needed, and expects you to know everything consequently. Some of the questions will be solely based on your understanding of Micro theory, and you can't simple answer them by only knowing the lectures and slides. You will learn the concept however pretty well
Not an easy class but the material from his lectures is sufficient enough for all quizzes and the exam. The exam was very fair. He's a really nice guy so its hard to fault him for a difficult course. Keep up with lectures and review them often. Topics build on each other so make sure you understand them. He also bellcurves
Prof Yildiz isn't too bad, he's super helpful outside of class and doesn't require a textbook cause he thinks that they're bad ways of getting students money (I agree lol) only thing I would complain is that during his tests, it's MC and 1 question is worth like 8pts so if you get it wrong that's 8pts you don't get. Content is actually pretty good.
All the lectures slides had awful handwriting making it very difficult to read the notes(VERY unorganized lecture notes) NO LIVE ZOOM LECTURES ALL WERE PDF NOTE FILES ALL lectures were pre-recorded all posted on YouTube, had to teach yourself the material No assignments ONLY TESTS NO HELP from TA, hard to get help from prof too. Do NOT take ONLINE
Professor Yildiz gives you all the content that you need in order to do well. This course is content heavy though and you have to practise a lot if you are trying to do get a good grade. The lectures are also pretty interesting.
He taught CECN700 better than CECN504 (700 was easier than 504). The quizzes in 700 were a bit more easy and fair than 504. He does update the released marks for quizzes when students email him errors on the questions (multiple-choice). The practice questions really help prepare for the quizzes. Read intermediate microeconomics books to understand.
Course content is challenging but he does a great job explaining and will go to lengths to help you understand. Lectures are very important, problems on quizzes and the final will be based off the lecture problems. The course is difficult but as long as you attend class and attempt the problems from the lectures you will do fine.
Be prepared to practice hard for the tests, but they are fair and wont catch you by surprise. Lectures were recorded and class material was available anytime. Would take him again!
Professor Yildiz is definitely one of my favorite profs at TMU. He's a very nice guy and he teaches well. You HAVE to attend his lectures and write his notes in order to do well. He wants you to learn and you won't get by easy through memorization. If you have the chance to take him, do it.
Expect no sympathy from Dr. Yildiz. Course is advertised to be synchronous but the professors lectures are pre recorded videos he made over two years ago. Expect no support whatsoever, as you will barely interact with him and he is not very accessible. You will have to teach yourself this entire course.
I do not agree with the bad reviews on Doctor Yildiz,he is a tough prof only because he wants you to learn something. After receiving a low midterm mark he encouraged me I will have a better final grade with practicing his notes & re-doing his problems. With his advice I got almost a perfect score on the final & changed my C to an A.100% recommend!
Prof Yildiz is a nice prof who cares about his students, and I found he answered emails quickly. He does not follow a textbook, so your only means of learning is through video lectures which are fast-paced with very messy notes that don't follow a clear structure. The final exam was really hard, and I didn't feel like tests left you well prepared.
Dr. Yidiz is truly one of the greatest professors out there. The course requires you to attend every lecture and make notes, and Dr. Yildiz does everything to make sure you understand the material. He would answer questions and go over things that may be confusing more than twice.
How the hell this prof has a 4.3 is a mystery to me, you cannot understand anything in this class and you only get marked on 2 things; a midterm and a test
These reviews are lies, if you have this prof switch out immediately because he has one midterm worth 40% which is insane to me and an exam worth 60%. there is no way for you to boost your mark. no assignments or quizzes he also talks for three hours straight and the way he teaches is hard for you to understand good luck listen to me.
- His class is graded on a 40% midterm and a 60% final. There is no other way to boost/recover grades. The other ECN104 classes have homework, and assignments and the exams are easier. - Does not help AT ALL during the exam. - Speaks broken English so it is tough to understand his lectures. *DO NOT take this professor for ECN104*
Ur only marked off the 40% midterm and the 60% final exam. He doesn't give any exam review so it's hard to study for. His lectures are very dull and he talks for the entire 3 hours reading off the slides. He has an accent as well so it is sometimes difficult to understand. Other profs have cheat sheets + assignments, trust take any other proffesor.
He knows what he is talking, but he does not engage in discussions which makes the 3 hour lecture so boring. If you can, take the other ECN course that is online because they had a mylab worth 35% and the prof gave an extra 5% bonus. NOT only that but they were also allowed a crib sheet for the final while we were not.
Professor Yildiz is a great person and a great professor. His lectures are passionate and he really wants you to understand the content. With that being said, he provides excellent practice questions and if you intuitively understand said practice questions, the exams should be quite straightforward.
Really bad Teacher. simple
I have hard time to understand how unfair some of the students can be. He is by far the best professor I have ever taken a course from. I feel lucky to be taught by Professor Halis. He inspired many students with his enthusiastic attitude in teaching.
Professor Halis is very energetic, cares about the topics he teaches, gives practical advice based on the theories taught. Now, this course is definitely the toughest course I've taken throughout my whole entire university career. So I would recommend studying 25 hours a week because although Halis is a great professor, the content is very tough.
Don't waste your time with him...
He keeps using same videos and notes he recorded 10 years ago and they are awful. His accent makes everything too hard to understand and his hand written notes are impossible to read. 50% of the grade is the final exam and even for an online course, he wants you to take the final in person. AVOID...
As a person he might be great, but as a professor he is the worst, he never answered my emails, every office hours I attended he just told look at the videos that he uploaded, are outdated and his accent and method explaining content are all over the place. He also has the worst had writting ever and you depend on his notes.
I don't know how why he has a high grade, but RUN if you have him he is just an awefull instructor. The course was never intended to be asynchronous, he never tells you the chapters of the books that he uses, and wants you to use his outdated videos with bad hadwritting. Also he uses old questions that you can get through chegg.
Bad Professor but Good Person
Yildiz cares and wants his students to do well but his lectures are a snoozefest and you're marked by a 40% midterm and a 60% final... Go to office hours if you're confused and spend lots of time reviewing because you'll need it. Would recommend taking other profs because they include mylabs and other things into your grade. Accent is also heavy.
I had the great pleasure of taking both CECN504 &700 with Dr. Yildiz! The textbook is unnecessary as he explains concepts in a simple and clear manner in the lecture videos. The quizzes and final exam were VERY fair, with questions closely resembling those in the lecture materials. He also responds to emails very promptly. Highly recommended!
He knows the content but does not how to explain it at the level needed for those who are just learning the concepts, uses videos that are outdated, and it very tedeouse to understadn his handwriting in the videos as there is no structure or clean format.
Took both CECN504 and CECN700 with Dr. Yildiz and he is AMAZING. Lecture videos are very easy to follow and understand. (And this is coming from someone who almost failed Intro ECN). Quizzes are based solely on lecture materials. The final exam is also VERY fair bc all the questions closely resemble the practice questions and the quizzes.
Professor Yildiz can be tough, but if you put in the work, it pays off. His lectures are dense but valuable - take notes, use unstuckstudy for extra practice, and you'll learn a lot. The final exam is challenging, but manageable with diligent preparation.
This course is a bit tough. I like the prof, he was fair and gives you enough material to do well. Put in the work you'll do well. Friends have told me now it is a bit harder but personally I prepared well and did well. So do the same and you should be fine keep in mind is a difficult course.
The teacher is incredibly dedicated and explains everything in great detail. They don't use a textbook or post slides, but their teaching method and note-taking are very thorough and logical. Highly recommend!
One of the most challenging courses, made even more difficult by Yildiz. Vague course outline. No textbook or extra materials on D2L so attend each class. Illegibly scribbles on the board while speaking for 3 hours. If you miss anything, you're out of luck, too bad! 40% midterm, 60% final. Strongly urge you to take this course with anybody else.
This course is one of the toughest economics courses at TMU, so, with that being said, you HAVE to put in the work. Go to each class and tutorial and practice each and every question until you understand it. Yildiz is an amazing professor; he cares about his students. Any bad reviews on him are from those students who never showed up to class.
Econ is hard. if you're good at math you'll probably do well. Tests are straight forward, no new information. BUT, this class has zero theory, he doesn't even attempt to make the content engaging or relevant. Sucks for those actually interested in economics. Understanding the micro concepts was impossible, even tho i have an A+ in intro micro
He genuinely cares about teaching, using the board for detailed explanations instead of just slides or reading a textbook. There's no textbook, so regular attendance is crucial. Exams are challenging, with a tough midterm and a slightly lighter final, but you'll learn a lot if you just go to class and keep up with the material.
