Great guy. Really wants us to learn and was super understanding of our situations and COVID as a whole. SUPER NICE. We love him.
Professor Chabok was incredible! By far the best professor I've had at USC! He cares so much for his students and really wants everyone in the class to succeed. He always took his time to explain the more difficult concepts and, more often than not, had extra credit on quizzes and midterm. Take him!!
TAKE CHABOK FOR PHYSICS! I am a bio major whose weakest subject is physics. I almost didn't pass the first half and completely dreaded going into physics13b with a "I just need to pass" attitude. Now, I may end the semester with an A! Something I never thought I could say. He is funny, caring, and makes exams just like homework. And extra credit!
I am taking Professor Chabok for 135B after really struggling in 135A, and his tests are very straightforward and he actually cares about his students. The testing average is in the mid to high 80's, so there is no curve, but there is lots of partial credit and Chabok is genuinely a nice guy who cares about students.
Horrendous professor, class was a waste of time. Only prepared 5 slides per lecture--we learned an equation and then plugged in numbers without understanding what anything meant. I got 100% on everything while learning absolutely nothing. When asked a question, he barely knew how to answer and could not justify his answer when he came up with one.
Honestly think he cares very little about the students and is unorganized. The class is homework heavy and the content required to complete the homework isn't taught until 36 hours before the deadline. His teaching style is copying information from textbooks into slide decks (including examples) and circling over every word as he 'explains' it.
With Hybrid accommodations, the prof turned on zoom and shared the screen. That's it. He then proceeded to write on the blackboard and completely ignored everyone on zoom. Even the in class activity, he asked students to submit the answers on paper but no instructions whatsoever for zoom students. He just wants to do the bare minimum. Terrible.
Unqualified to be a professor. Late to lectures/cant decided whether to have lecture online or in person, poor teaching ability and complete lack of communication skills, low quality of slides and blatant plagiarism of the textbook. Easily one of the least caring professors Ive ever had and has single handedly ruined physics for me.
Claims he cares about us, but doesn't even put effort into his slides. Copies directly out of the textbook, and doesn't seem to know what he is teaching us. He gets confused by questions and doesn't explain concepts at all. Throws us into breakout rooms for over half of the class to "work together" when no one even knows how to begin the problems.
The professor lectures by reading off the slides, and his explanations often lack depth. Homework takes a while, but he doesn't teach the material it's based on until the day before it's due, so I end up rushing to finish it without having time to really work through and understand it. I like physics as a subject, but I find this class tedious.
doesn't explain anything other than reading off the slides. takes no time to unpack any of the material and leaves everyone so confused that i'm pretty sure we're all going to fail the class.
He misgendered me in front of the class.
First RMP review. He is a hilarious prof who teaches nothing and reads his PowerPoints in every class. Tests are hard AF, and this dude doesn't care about student questions. BTW, he won't reply to any of your emails.
Class average on the first midterm was like a 50 and the prof said he’d curve IF people did better as if students weren’t already trying their best. Also sends out an email like an hour before class about whether or not it will be in person - on one occasion the subject said in person and the content said on zoom with a link. Avoid if you can.
Horrible Professor! A complete waste of time. As someone graduating in 2 months this is the absolute worst class I've taken in my 4 years at USC, and it isn't the content but the professor that make it so. He should work on his teaching skills, if not quit so you don't ruin physics for countless students every semester.
He is an excellent lecturer and I loved going to his classes. He cares about the students and is very organized in his teaching method/slides. I will definitely take his class again.
He genuinely cares about his students. I recommend going to his office hours! If you practice his class examples and review lectures you will do fine on exams.
Great professor! Lectures were clear and organized
Slides were organized and really helpful. He did his best to make hard concepts easy for us. I would definitely take him again.
AVOID this professor if possible! He doesn't take time to explain the formulas/go over how they relate to one another, making concepts so difficult to understand. He just reads off the slides and solves the examples with no explanation. He also rarely answers emails. You're better off learning physics by yourself than taking this class.
I'm watching Prof. Peroomian's Final review, and I'm so mad that I had Prof. Chabok for the semester. Prof Peroomian finally helped me understand a lot of the concepts that Chabok just glossed over. Difference between Teaching and Mentioning. I honestly, think I could've done far better in this class if I didn't have Chabok. Terrible Prof, Avoid.
Great Professor, he finally made me understand physics.
I am glad I took 153 with him as he cares about his students and makes hard lectures clear and understandable.
He cares about his students and does everything he can to make difficult concepts more understandable. Definitely take him instead of other professors
Very kind and caring. Dr. Hamid is very good at answering questions in class and via emails. He tries to explain everything as much as he can if anyone asks a question. However, he can just quickly go through the slides without explaining too much. Throws us into breakout rooms for practice questions. Graded by a final and a midterm.
He's a nice guy but I just don't think he's a great prof. Why would I pay 80k for someone who just copies the textbook into lecture slides? The content was interesting and I did fine but I didn't gain as much as I could have.
He is a good teacher and cares about the students. I would take him again.
His lectures are straight forward and exams are fair as long as you do the work. I would take him again.
His lectures are very organized and you can do well in class as long as you do your work.
His lectures are to the point and just perfect. I wish all my professors were like that.
Patiently answered all of my countless questions in class, office hours, and over emails. He is super caring and wants to see his students succeed! Just a really nice person who loves physics, which made me that much more interested in the topic because of how passionate he was about it.
he approached me after the final and was like "did you fill a course eval?" so i said yes. then he asked "but did you rate me on RMP" ... so here i am lol. this dude is fantastic. He's very caring and has a great sense of humor. go to his office hours! tests are fair. the workload was better than 135a. he wants u to succeed. i would recommend him!
Lectures can feel a bit circular at times, and I felt like using supplemental materials like YouTube was essential to making sense of the lectures. However, Professor Chabok is genuinely one of the most caring professors I've had at USC, and he wants all of his students to succeed. He will do anything to help you out! For this, I highly recommend!
Dr. Chabok is one of the few professors who cares about his students and was funny and engaged during lectures. However, tests were fairly difficult (but you get a fat curve afterward) and his explanations of certain topics were confusing and hard to understand. The Final is worth 40% of your grade and he loves Kirchhoff's circuits.
Awesome professor - great at explaining difficult concepts in an easy way. Exams are based on the assigned hw, so if you study that you're golden. Also go to office hours bc you'll learn a ton and get tips that help on exams. Caring person, funny, great at his job.
I honestly loved Professor Chabok. I didn't end up getting a good grade on the midterm which resulted in me having to drop, but he genuinely cares about his students and wants them to do well. My advice would be to go to office hours if you're stuck on things because he will help you. I hope to take him again when I retake the class.
Chabok is as dry as they come. Reads off the slides and does not teach well, or at all frankly - thank goodness my AP Physics teacher was competent. You're not going to gain anything from lecture other than a good nap, so just study past midterms (the practice exams are a farce) and you'll do very well. Two midterms and a final.
I enjoyed taking this course with Professor Chabok as he maintained a good pace and difficulty level for this course given that it was geared for primarily pre-medical students. He is honest in his assessment that reviewing lecture slides and completing practice exams will adequately prepare you for the MT and Final.
Such a fun and inspiring professor. The bad experience below might be due to the online format as he's very energetic in person. His lecture might not be that easy to follow but you don't need to understand every single detail to ace the exam. Lots of extra credits and a BIG curve for midterm and final. Definitely recommend for 135A and B.
If you read over the lecture notes and practice problems, you are basically set for the exams. He offers in class assignments where you can get bonus credit for the midterms and the final. The homework sets are short and generally straightforward. He values participation during lectures.
Sucks at teaching, good at reading slides
This is probably the worst professor I have ever had. He does nothing more than read off equations from the slides and then expects you to do all of the application. He should objectively be fired. The only saving grace is that the class is an easy A, and there is a lot of extra credit offered.
Organized lectures. You know what you will be tested on.
Dr. Chabok is a pretty funny and kind individual who cares for the success of his students. I thought his class was pretty straightforward: homework reflected tests well, he provided useful practice exams, and he offered extra credit for attendance. That said, I do think PHYS 135a is difficult if you did not have high school exposure to physics.
He is a nice guy but he does not know how to teach. Lectures are just him reading formulas, showing one practice problem, then yapping for 15 minutes. Attendance isn't mandatory but go to every lecture because the practice problem is usually extra credit. Tests are not super hard and similar to the homework. He curves the tests generously.
Doesn't respond to emails. If you ask him a question in person he just stares at you blankly.
He's a good guy but would not recommend. Take another professor if you can.
I really loved Chabok! Super kind and inspirational man, pretty straightforward with the class but the exams and homework are difficult especially if you don't have previous physics exposure. That being said, I do think he is the best option to take this class with if you can. Gives EC for attending class and curves generously
Very kind person & a funny man, not the best at teaching. Course is difficult without previous high school physics knowledge - that being said, I never took physics before but put in the work for this class (did homework, practice problems, in-class examples) and ended up with an A. Curves VERY generously -- curves exams PLUS the final.
I never wore my seatbelt driving to school because I wanted to die before making it to his class.
Not sure if he's always been doing this but the exams are very similar to the review materials, so if you go over them and know how to solve the review questions you're basically guaranteed an A on the midterms. Pretty good lecturer, he's also pretty wholesome and funny
He should not be teaching this class, or teaching at all. He reads off a slideshow that he didn't make, and doesnt take the time to make sure you are understanding the material. Sometimes the homework is what we learned, sometimes it isnt, and the lab portion def never matches the lectures. If you need to take this class, I am sorry.
He's a bad lecturer. Don't expect to learn anything from him. Self-teaching all the way
Very nice/funny fella. He tells you the topics you need to know before exams, but his lectures aren't the greatest and are very unclear/vague. Oftentimes disorganized, shows up to class late, cancels class. I think he's so smart that he has trouble dumbing the material down for undergrads. Easy exams tho, so I would recommend him over other profs
His slides are very organized and clear. He id a great help if you actually attend his office hours. I wish the science department had more instructors like him.
Very helpful in office hours. Homework is difficult and time consuming but very helpful for exams. Good and funny teacher
Professor Chabok is one of the best professors I've had at USC. He is incredibly knowledgeable about the subject matter and make lectures both engaging and informative. His teaching style is clear and well-organized, and he often uses real-world examples to help make complex concepts easier to understand. I would definitely take him again.
He is very approachable and always available during office hours. I never felt lost in the material because he encouraged students to ask questions, and his feedback on assignments is really helpful. The exams were fair and focused on the key points from the lectures and readings.
If you're thinking of taking this course, definitely do it! Just make sure to stay on top of the readings, and don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it. Professor Chabok wants students to succeed.
Compared to other 135A/B professors, Chabok's exams are by far some of the easiest and he's good at explaining problems. Attendance is "mandatory" in that you need to complete in-class work by the end of some classes so I stopped going in person, and he'll move class to Zoom a lot. Great curve - boosted my 70 on the cumulative final to a 90.
He is by far the best Phys152 instructor. Very good at explanations.
If you can take another 152 professor, do it. Prof. Chabok makes simple concepts very difficult to understand and his teaching methods are non-existent. Most of the time I found myself looking for resources posted by the other professors to make my life easier. If you have to take Chabok, good luck.
Dr. Chabok is by far one of the best professors I've ever had. He explains concepts in precise detail, ensuring thorough understanding, and his tests are consistently fair. I thoroughly enjoyed her teaching methods and the class overall.
Professor Chabok is wonderful! He has such a passion for the topics he is teaching and has a great way of explaining complex Be prepared for a lot of hw. Would love to take him again for anything!
Chabok is decent, not the best at explaining concepts but he gives better practice problems and review stuff than Peroomian. Peroomian is better at teaching but Chabok gives better resources. Chabok never responds to emails which is really annoying lol.
I enjoyed taking Professor Chabok's class and learned a great deal. He can really teach the complicated concepts and his lectures are structured well! Paying attention in class has paid off the most and I didn't even have to read a page in the book to understand the homework, midterms, or even the final.
Amazing and funny person, but not the greatest lecturer. He noticed that many of us had class during his office hours, so he moved them 30 minutes later. Very accessible outside of class; however, content will likely be self taught. TAs grade exams generously and Prof. provides review questions that are very reflective of what the exam will be on.
Lectures weren't helpful and I had trouble understanding what he was saying. But he makes up for this by posting videos to review concepts, explain homeworks, etc. And he gave HW extra credit. If you can teach yourself / have taken E&M an A is doable, but if you struggle with physics, you'll have to put in the work :(
By far the best professor in the university, and one of the best courses. Chabok teaches extremely well, genuinely cares for the students, and grades generously. His lectures are engaging and very helpful in understanding hard concepts.
I was a student at Vahe's class but I always attended Chabok's office hours because he is a way of explaining difficult concepts and problems that makes everything seem easy. If I were to take this class again, I would take it with Chabok.
Chabok is one of the best lecturers I have ever encountered. He has a unique ability to break down complex concepts in a way that shows he truly understands how students approach and think about a topic. His teaching style creates an engaging and supportive learning environment that inspires curiosity and deeper understanding.
Professor Chabok is an excellent physics teacher who makes complex topics enjoyable. His interactive classes are never boring, and his passion for the subject is contagious. He offers plenty of office hours and is very helpful outside of class. If you're ready to put in the effort, you'll learn a lot and come to appreciate physics more!
Dr. Chabok is an excellent professor who makes a heavy-load class like PHYS 172 enjoyable. His review videos and examples are super helpful, and his lectures are engaging and fun. He's very caring, even adjusting office hours to fit students' schedules. Overall, Chabok is knowledgeable, approachable, and one of the best professors I've had!
He was a great teacher. I understood physics for the first time when he explained subjects. Unfortunately, he had to switch to a different class.
Best Physics instructor I have ever had. I wish we had more professors like him at USC.
Just awful, he gives dad talk during lectures rather than teaching.
Def the best prof for 135B. Super cool guy. Wants to see his students thrive. Difficulty of class aside, he makes it tolerable and helps in as many ways as he can. Take advantage of his extra credit that he gives in class and the in-class assignments. His office hours are also useful.
Tests are hard but you can do pretty well if you do the readings. He spends a lot of time with you in office hours so I recommend going.
He explains the concepts in a way that makes complicated topics seem easy. One of the best instructors.
Tough homeworks and exams. He is funny and does a good job of keeping students engaged.
He is one of the best professors in USC. Great lecturer, funny and caring. I recommend taking this class with him or you will regret it. You need to work hard but you will learn.
I don't think USC pays this man enough. Chabok is doing god's work in teaching physics. His way of explaining things may be confusing at first, but if you look back at the work, you will more than likely understand it. Chabok's lectures are entertaining and he really wants you to succeed. If you had Kresin previously, this is a clear upgrade.
One of the best lecturers at USC. Keeps you engaged throughout the class. Concepts are hard by themselves. You need to study hard and put a lot of time to do well. Very helpful in office hours.
I have had Chabok both for phys135a and Phys135b and he is awesome. I love his teaching style, makes complex concepts understandable. He is very inspirational and funny. If you put in a proper amount of time into this class, you will do great.
Physics is tough, but Chabok is awesome in explaining it. He communicated expectations for attendance and grading very clearly. His review videos are very helpful for the exam.
He is by far the best in teaching in Physics. Great sense of humor and a skilled teacher who makes difficult subjects easy to understand.
152 is a difficult subject but make sure you take it with Chabok because he is really good in keeping you engaged and inspired.
As long as you put in the effort, you will do well in this class.
Loved this class and his teaching style despite being my earliest class of the day. He is strict on homework deadlines and In Class Assignments so make sure you complete them on time.
I am so glad I waited to take this class with him. I took 135a with him last year and could not imagine having to deal with other professors for Physics. He is accessible and willing to help. His office hours are packed. He is funny and good at making physics understandable.
Dr. Chabok is an excellent physics professor! He explains concepts clearly and makes difficult material easier to understand. The Conceptual Questions (CQs) were a great tool—they encouraged me to review material before class, so I felt more prepared and engaged during lectures. He's also very fair with grading and responsive to questions.
Exams are hard but you will be prepared if you work on the practice problems he gives you. He is accessible and very helpful in office hours. I definitely recommend taking physics with him.
Professor Chabok is kind and funny. For the two midterms, he will tell you everything you need to know for the exam. However, for the final, you will be extremely unprepared and may need to drink heavily after the exam. As long as you do well on the midterms, HW, and lab, your failing final grade will not tank your grade too much. He does care tho.
While attendance was not mandatory, I attended class almost everyday because of CQs and ICAs. This policy was very helpful so I dont fall behind. Lectures were engaging and demos were interesting. Office hours were extremely helpful.
It was a pleasure having someone with engineering background teach this physics course. I connected more with him and understood better for that reason as opposed to 171.
The best professor to have an 8 am class with. Inspiring and Caring. Makes you actually fall in love with Physics.
Exams are straightforward as long as you go to lecture, complete homework and review practice problems. He is a competent lecture which makes physics enjoyable. He is very helpful if you email or go to office hours.
I genuinely enjoyed Dr. Chabok's teaching style. He made physics feel both challenging and rewarding, and I always looked forward to his lectures.
Dr. Chabok does a great job facilitating learning in that he wants you to show up and be caught up with the material and often refers you to the textbook. However, his lectures have mandatory attendance but not the best use of time. Exams were almost exactly his practice tests.
Dr. Chabok does everything he can to make sure we learn the concepts. He puts so much energy and care into the class. Very helpful in office hours. You need to study hard for an A though.
Dr. Chabok did everything in his power to make physics fun for his students. He offered plenty of extra credit opportunities and his exams were very close to his practice sets, although they got progressively harder as the semester went on. He is very accommodating and he often cracks childish but funny jokes in class.
Exams are reasonable and you will do well if you attend lectures and study review problems. The only I didn't like from this course was the labs.
Had him for both a and b. One of the few classes I always looked forward to. I think it would have been better for the homework to be every other week rather than every week. Other than that, no complains.
We only had him for 3 weeks but his lectures were excellent. He was very nice and caring and really wanted the class to learn and enjoy physics. It is a pity that the professors had to be switched due to scheduling conflicts.
He was one of my best USC professors in hard science courses. I will for sure miss his classes. Exams resemble homework and practice problems so you are good to go as long as you do your work. I recommend going to his office hours as he is very helpful.
Professor Chabok is one of the best instructors I've had. He's passionate about teaching and truly wants his students to succeed. His classes are interactive and actually make physics enjoyable. While the final exam was tougher than expected, the grading curve was fair. He breaks down complex topics in a way that makes them easier to understand.
Physics 152 is a difficult subject so one has to put in a lot of work. He is one of the best instructors for teaching it. The review videos are very helpful for the exams and extra credits are the best part.
Very organized lectures and super helpful office hours. Daily homework to prepare you for class.
He is the goat. Best professor at USC. We are midway through the course and he is the best in teaching. He brings so much energy to class and is very caring.
This class has a lot of homework but the work prepares you for the exams. The review videos are very helpful. Make sure to attend office hours specially before exams.
I loved going to his classes even though it was 8:30 am. He is a competent instructor and explains complex physics concepts very well. Homework is difficult but he helps a lot in office hours. You will be fine on exams as long as you study the review questions.
Chabok is this middle eastern dad who won most innovative award during his grad years at USC. He's pretty hilarious and he has some funny comedic timing. Not an A1 teacher, but he tells you what is on exams and gives important practice problems during OH (I did some of them 10 times to do well on exams). I'm bad at physics but did well!
He is a very good instructor that makes the difficult concepts of physics understandable with great real life examples. He is smart and funny. His office hours are packed with students so make sure you email and ask for private one on one if you need additional help.
Professor Chabok was extremely knowledgeable and supportive, it motivated me to attend class every session and I had no absences. He also had a clear outline and expectation for our exams.
Professor Chabok is one of the best professors at USC. He is passionate about what he teaches, cares about his students and dedicates lots of time outside class to help his students. You need to spend 10+ hours every week studying and doing homework but it is all worth it. Take it with Chabok if you can.
Now that I am taking 135b with another professor, I fully understand why Chabok is the best. His lectures are engaging and really helpful in deeply understanding the complex subjects. He uses real world examples that makes you understand why knowledge of physics matters in everyday life. I definitely recommend Professor Chabok.
I had a very good experience having him as my instructor for 152. He is to the point and helps you out in office hours. Make sure you attend classes because of ICAs. If you put the work, you can earn a good grade.
Dr. Chabok is one of the most caring and organized professors I've had. He explains concepts very clearly, connects them to real-world applications, and always provides plenty of practice material before exams. His review sessions and rubrics are detailed and fair, so you know exactly what's expected
Prof. Chabok is approachable, responsive to questions, and genuinely wants students to succeed. You can tell he puts a lot of effort into making the class structured and manageable. If you put in the work, you'll learn a lot and feel supported the whole way. Highly recommend!
Chabok is honestly such a solid prof. He explains stuff super clearly and actually makes physics make sense (which is rare lol). Exams are fair if you do the practice problems he gives — nothing sneaky. He's also chill and easy to talk to if you're confused, super responsive on emails too.
He is one of the best for explaining physics. His lectures are both engaging and fun. His office hours are very helpful so make sure you dont miss them.
We took the Midterm Exam exam last week so we are still in the middle of the semester. He is genuinely a great professor that made physics understandable. I had no prior physics experience so that says a lot about him as the instructor. Mini Quizzes are very helpful for helping me keep up with the class.
Honestly, Prof. Chabok is such a W professor. He actually cares if you understand the material and his demos go crazy — makes physics way less boring. Super chill, explains stuff clearly, and is always down to help during office hours. If you show up and put in a bit of effort, you'll do fine. One of the real ones 👏🔥
Prof. Chabok makes lectures lowkey entertaining AND you actually learn stuff. Dude's a legend — 11/10 would sign up again just for the vibes!
Take him you won't regret it
I would say one of the best professors I have had at USC!
He is awesome! Dont take classes with anyone else except him. Accessible outside class and explains difficult concepts well.
YES YES YES CHABOOOKKKKK >>>>>>>
Professor Chabok teaches very well and explains concepts clearly. He provides a ~35-question of sample questions that closely reflect the exams, and if you study it carefully, you will do well. The quizzes are very helpful for staying on track and keeping up with the material. The course is organized, fair, and rewards consistent effort.
pls take him. he is hands down the best physics professor at usc. i wish he was teaching phys 135b next sem. the most caring professor ever! pls go to his office hours (very helpful for the exams) and pay attention in class. be sure to do the review questions he gives before every exam and you will do great. probably my fav prof at usc tbh!!
Super caring prof who wants you to pass. His midterms and final questions all come from the exam review questions he gives you, so be sure to study those.
never seen a prof who is MORE invested in his students succeeding. i hate physics but his class was fun and great and he's the most amazing generous person. gives adequate study materials for tests and is always available for help. literally the best ever.
Lectures are unclear and he likes to overcomplicate all the concepts. Don't show up to his classes, they'll only push you further back. He also loves to throw in random questions that aren't related at all to what he was teaching so just study what you can from the practice problem sets and pray.
Chabok doesn't prioritize concepts and instead blazes through random practice problems. Spends almost half the lecture on simple ABCD questions when his tests combine multiple questions into one. Uses Pearson which looks to be as old as Newton. Never addresses homework or upload answers to allow you to practice. please don't take chabok :(
Hard class, but great instructor. If you pay attention, you'll learn a lot. Really solid professor. Fair, clear, and genuinely invested in students.
The mini quizzes lowkey saved me on exams. Writing problems under time pressure made the tests way less stressful.
I took phys 152 in 2024, so my memory's not great. But he's pretty good at explaining physics concepts and going through practice problems. He's fairly accessible after class and especially good during OH. Exam questions were similar to the practice problems. I didn't do that great, but electromagnetic is hard anyway, so don't feel bad.
Concepts were taught in multiple ways and at a good pace. I learned a lot about physics and how it applies to fields like medicine and biology, and I always felt guided toward success in the course.
This class was organized and taught perfectly. The effort and dedication of the professor is palpable and extremely substantial.
Chabok taught tough material well and made it easy to understand. More than that, the professor has always been so kind and tried his best to connect with the students, making the class very fun.
