This guy is not interested in teaching and he does not explain anything or gives good grade. His tests are really difficult.
He is really interested in teaching the course and goes beyond the call of duty to explain things. I found his tests to be fair, maybe a little difficult.
he made the course too easy. The exam was right from the homeworks. All I had to do was to attend classses and do the old exams and homeworks to get an A.
Really cared about his students... may seem like he doesn't but wants everyone to do well in his class... will do whatever he needs to in order for you to understand the material very well.. going to class isn't a necessity
I liked taking this course because the class is easy and the professor really cares about students. It was easy to contact the professor and TAs.
Actually cares about his students and their lives. He's really great.
he is awesome :).
Fair professor whose class is one of the easier MSE2001. Clicker questions are mandatory and pretty much every class. Tests are very reasonable. As long as you attended class, you will do well on tests.
Excellent professor. Very clear lectures. He only teaches what is needed to study for the quizzes and exams. Nothing extra. There are quizzes every class which makes you attend them all. review before the exam very useful. I did not like the fact that I was forced to attend all classes,..
Dr. Garmestani is one of the best teachers I've had at Tech. His lectures are very interesting. He has a great presentation style for lecture. His homework problems and class clicker questions are great study material. Tests are fair. It's obvious he wants his students to excel. I highly recommend this professor.
One of the best teachers I've had at Tech. His lecture slides are very clear and are great study material. And his organization makes it easy to know what to study prior to the exam. I did great on the tests, but badly in attendance. He has clicker questions every day so make sure you go to class regularly, attendance is worth a lot of points.
The professor did a great job on explaining the material and relaying what's important. He would let us know beforehand the concepts that were going to be tested and he would always have review sessions and practice problems ready. The tests were usually fair and his study guides were very helpful. I definitely recommend taking this class with him!
if you want to get a good participation grade you should pay attention to his lectures which are fairly dry, mostly cause the material is boring. multiple choice test question. very clear on curving and grade schemes
Taught exactly what was on exams, clearly provided as many resources as were necessary to understand the material, if not much more than necessary, and always willing to help. He was very understanding when approached with difficulties and replied to emails very quickly. Generally a great professor. He expects attendance and not much else.
He is not familiar with what he is talking about in the class. Trying to cancel the class as much as he can. The most stupid professor I have ever seen. i just can not understand how he came to Georgia tech
He is an unbelievable Professor. Very kind and understanding. He makes the materials really easy to understand. His quizzes are very easy as long as you pay attention in class, I found it easy to study the notes before the class (he uploads the lectures on the web). He is extremely knowlegeable and a real gentleman. I learned so much.
I think the best aspect of this course were the clicker question quizzes. They gave us hints for what was going to be on the tests, as well as kept us engaged. The labs were the best part and I learned so much during the labs. It was always exciting for me to go to the laboratory and apply what we were learning in class!
The lectures are clear and I actually enjoyed going. while there are 2-3 pop clicker quizzes per class, they're easy to ace if you were paying attention. The tests are mostly recycled questions from the quizzes and it's difficult to do well. When I took it during the summer, he said he wouldn't curve as the vast majority would receive As or Bs.
He's a lecturer, but definitely not a teacher. He didn't explain anything and half the things he said contradicted what was on the powerpoints. He never explained what it would take to succeed in the class. Everything was memorization. He did not test our understanding, only our ability to remember facts. Easiest class you'll ever get a B in.
Good Professor, test are based completely off of lecture slides. He gives small quizzes everyday so must attend lectures.
The tests were not too bad as they were mostly questions from previous exams. Lab reports were very annoying to write but the TA's were generous with grading. He is not very accessible outside class. He took attendance with clicker quizzes so you have to go to class
Professor Garmestani seems to be very caring and understands that we as students can't spend all of our time on one class. He makes tests very doable (majority of the questions come from past tests) and curves so that the average is a high B. There are pop quizzes every class and chapter quizzes so attending lecture is a must.
Garmestani really cares about his students. His course is relatively easy, as most of his assessments don't require a great understanding of MSE, just the ability to memorize past questions. I highly recommend him if you simply need to get an A, but he's not the best at teaching so I don't recommend him if you want to actually learn the material.
Professor is very caring for his students and makes sure that you understand the concepts well. Also he provides very good notes for his class.
literally best professor ever. he genuinely cares about students and is so knowledgeable in his field - he is very accredited and a real gentleman! He is also very approachable and loves his students. his class is easy if you attend class and follow along
Literally the best professor ever.
Relatively easy professor, although he doesn't give options to recover grade throughout semester, Almost put easy A, but one bad test and that's no longer true.
It's an easy A (if you're good at memorizing) because all of his exam questions come directly from quizzes and powerpoints, and all the quiz questions are the same from year to year. He's okay but I feel like I hardly learned anything. I was really excited about the material and that faded during the course.
pretty easy class but it was tough for me because this is a hard subject for me. He is a very good and caring professor - probably the nicest I have ever had and the most intelligent on his subject.
Take this class - trust me
Probably the best professor in his field. I can't think of any reason why you would not take this class if you had the option
He's a nice guy that loves material science. His lectures are decent, but without hearing his commentary the slides are incomplete. His testing procedures are abnormal, but not inherently bad. You will be forced to buy a clicker. My only serious complaint is that his tests are poorly written and don't reflect your understanding of the material.
Ever class has quizzes on clickers. They aren't crazy difficult, but it requires you to be at every single class and to pay close attention. Garmestani is also not particularly kind. He is extremely strict on attendance and coming in late / leaving early. Take another section even if it's technically more difficult. You learn nothing in this one.
You must buy a physical clicker for tests and quizzes. There are quizzes during lecture every class. Everything is multiple choice. Lecture slides are rather worthless without his commentary in class (often it'll be just a graph/pic with no notes on the side). Heavily recycles questions from past tests/quizzes so make sure you study those.
The class is quite easy for anyone who studies even slightly outside of class and the professor is very knowledgeable in his field
The professor is the best in his field at the university, so I recommend taking some class with him just for that alone. He is also very sweet and of course intelligent and respected. I recommend pretty much any class with him, solid choice.
This class was quite easy for me, although I could see how it could be difficult for some. As long as you study a good bit you should do fine. the material is really not hard
Pretty easy class to be honest and you should learn quite a bit. attendance is pretty much mandatory, and the tests are quite easy if you study a little bit and listen and take good notes during the lectures.
Very nice guy and decent lecturer. His lectures are very boring though. Daily quizzes make mandatory attendance. His tests are easy, but final was harder. He recycles test questions a lot.
The lectures are informative, the teacher is nice, and the tests are fairly easy....
Garmestani is a very easy professor. His class is definitely more about memorization than anything else. The tests and "in-class" quizzes are pretty easy; tests are very similar to older tests and quizzes with many recycled questions. Definitely the go-to for an easy A, but maybe not if you want to actually learn about Materials Science.
Please do not take him!! He is very disrespectful to his students and will not answer all your questions. He will say the test is on certain material but then test you on completely different material.
Very nice teacher. attendance is effectively mandatory and content isn't too hard
Very good teacher. The class is not too hard, but not too easy for either.
Garmestani is very caring, intelligent, and always willing to help. The class is relatively well-balanced in terms of difficulty, assuming you are focused.
The professor here is very excellent and you learn a lot in this class. no reason not to take it with him.
Interesting class with good professor and simple content that is taught well.
the class is an easy A, assuming you study evenly remotely enough...
Interesting material and lecture.
(ASYNC) MSE 2001 was a pretty easy course- very memorization-based and his exams were very fair and had a lot of questions from old quizzes. His lectures got boring at times and he rambled so it was difficult to tell what was important or not. Overall a fair class and easy engineering elective, but it might not be the most interesting choice.
good class and learned quite a lot.
Kind Professor, and the course is not hard, quiz is not very easy, but he droped the worst 2 quizes. The exam had a strong relation to quiz, but also need to review on the lecture notes.
Mostly application focused. Moderately difficult, but easy to do well if you put in the effort.
I thought his class was great, and I found him to be really responsive to feedback and questions. I thought the quizzes and exams were easy and fair (if you went to class), but the final was really hard in comparison which caught me off guard and dropped my grade. However, he is a great professor and I would definitely recommend him for MSE 2001.
Awesome professor. Take this class-you wont regret it...
love this class, take it again if I had too
This class was tough but the teacher is good.
You can get a B with zero effort, but if you want an A be prepared to decipher all of his inner machinations. Lectures have little structure and the "labs" involve watching a TA fiddle with a machine.
The ratings say its a 3.9, but it's definitely too high for this professor. Lectures are so disorganized and very hard to understand. Quizzes had questions on the next lecture we didn't even watch. Only good thing about this class is how the test is MOSTLY (not all) on past quizzes you took. Beware about the rest of the questions though..
I mean he is nice but the way he taught is just too inconsistent like he would randomly pause in the lecture for ten seconds. Also, his lecture is very disorganized, and comparing to other sections it seems like we have to learn more chapters.
Garmestani is a nice person and definitely knows what their field very well. But this asynch course is poorly organized and the lectures are confusing and lack structure. Much of what is covered in lecture does not end up showing on the tests, so it is hard to know what exactly to study for, especially since there is a lot of content to go through.
Overall great professor. Took this class as online asychronous and was the only class of this type I ever felt like I learned anything. He explains concepts very well and is happy to answer any questions you have. Quizzes and tests are very fair.
Taken async online. There must be two professors with the same name on this website, because I am completely lost on the good reviews here. Lectures are a drag, his slides are a disorganized mess, and quiz questions are either worded bizarre or cover material we never touched upon.
Take his online class - during fall, spring and summer - whatever is available at your reach. He is a great professor and his exams are easy if you do the daily quizzes, the past exams and read the textbook as well as his slides. 1st exam is easy, the remaining are much harder.
To do: 1. Take his online class 2. Be prepared to listen to all his lectures, or read the textbook at the very least 3. Great notes on Studocu 4. Do the sample or practice exams and all quizzes for participation(revise before exams) Note: 1. The first test is extremely easy, but gets harder 2. Practice using all resources available
the exams are very fair, and the professor certainly knows what he's talking about.
This class is not very difficult if you're paying attention. Garmestani is also very nice and is very willing to help you if you need it.
This is a great class where you learn many of the fundamentals you need. Fairly easy to understand.
I had to take this class and it was an informative experience.
not much to say, other than that the class is average difficulty (the actual material is relatively difficult but the class itself is not), and the teacher is very kind.
Mr. Garmestani is fantastic! One of the kindest teachers I have had at Georgia Tech
In the online MSE 2001, lectures were Zoom-delivered. I felt like the pacing was slower when i took him than when others did, but his tests are very similar to the practice MC tests he posts to Canvas. The lectures themselves were good for ~80% of the content, but do some Google searches for videos that explain more detailed concepts. He is caring.
I don't know what experience others had with the great reviews he had, but Professor Garmestani is not good. Yes, the online class is nice, but his lectures are boring and contain very little conceptual content. His slides also exclusively contain graphs, so it is very hard to follow his lectures and take notes. He rarely responds to emails.
Started off pretty well but his lectures started to decline rapidly. He is very passionate about his work so he does go off on tangents a lot, which isnt bad but is very unfortunate when it takes a month to get through one chapter. He does contradict himself a lot so it does get confusing.
Would definitely recommend for MSE 2001. Many quizzes/hws to improve grade and tests were very fair. Overall very clear course and easy to do well in if you really try.
Funny guy and easy class, you can memorize questions off of pop quizzes for your finals and midterms. The labs were also not weekly and pretty reasonable to complete, but tedious. He gave extensions! Unfortunately he's just not a very clear person and goes on tangents pretty often, not the best for learning. I found myself confused but not punished
Loved his class, great professor!
Chill teacher, probably the most understanding and lenient professor I've taken. Overall extremely chill, almost made me want to switch majors just to have him again. Highly recommend taking him.
Dr. Garmestani is a super cool guy, but his lectures leave a lot to be desired. It could be because of the classroom this class was in but it was really lackluster when it came to in class lectures. The labs had very vague grading guidelines but the TAs as a whole were solid and the labs themselves were fun, albeit a bit boring at times.
Best professor, ever. MUST GO FOR IT. Quizzes on every friday but it's open book. If you can get most of the scores from those quizzes and a few reports (very easy), You will get A unless you get less than 60% marks in final.
Professor Garmestani is very passionate about his field of study and the information in the class is very easily digestible. It is quite easy to get a good grade in this class if you come to class and study a moderate degree.
He is a nice guy and he cares about his students. However, the class is poorly structured and unorganized. He uses the same slides from a grad-level class for this intro to MSE lab class. Didn't really explain things in lectures. He always forgot to make the quiz answer visible and still didn't do it after we reminded him a couple of times
Does not explain things well in lecture, and gives quizzes based on things covered very briefly.
Great professor. Class was based on 3 Exams (15% each) + Final (35%), all based on past quizzes. Attendance is mandatory with Daily Open-Note Quizzes (20%), but there are several opportunities to improve your grade even if you don't do well on one quiz. Very Caring, always had office hours 8-9:30 the night before an exam to answer questions.
Very nice guy, cares about his students. MSE 2001 is a gamble at GT and, in my experience, hated by most. Powerpoints online and gone over in class. Quizzes based off of them for attendance; worth 20% of grade. 3 tests worth 15% each and a final worth 35%. From what I heard of other MSE prof, I would definetely take him again.
He unlike lots of professors at GT cares for his students and wants you to succeed. From hosting review sessions to have questions on test that are straight copy and paste from past quizzes despite the content of the classes being awful he made it much better.
TAKE HIM. No assignments or HW, just in class open note quizzes based on what he just talked about, all answers on Chegg and Quizlet. Tests questions come from quizzes, final exam questions come from tests and quizzes. Super caring, tons of review sessions and opportunities to improve grade. Kind of rambles, but review slides and study with people.
Pop quiz everyday from the slides. If you pay attention to the professors teaching then you can easily get full credit.
Class seems pretty poorly planned, and lots of content is reused (exams are just questions from the daily in-class pop quizzes, which seem to not have changed for a while). Content is interesting but questions are poorly worded and confusing, especially on labs. Probably a 60/40 split of deciphering questions/actually learning.
Really easy class, felt like a lot of memorizing things but he's a knowledgeable guy. Easy grade as long as you are paying attention. Labs are super interesting and definitely take the most effort but also you get a lot out of them. Class covers a lot of different techniques that are useful to know for MSE careers.
Course feels poorly planned, in no small part because he's adapting a grad level course for undergrads. Lots of reused content and very confusingly worded questions. The content is interesting, labs are good and the course is generally pretty easy, but most of the work is in deciphering weird questions and memorizing random stuff.
Professor Hamid is a caring and understanding instructor. His classes focus on pop quizzes but the content is very straightforward. Using Unstuckstudy alongside the review slides really helped me prep for the exams.
Great class to take. The material is easy enough to decipher but Garmestani makes it even easier.
