100000% recommend taking Dr. Shi if you have the chance. Top two best teacher I have ever had. His lectures and course material are great, made learning a challenging subject very easy to comprehend. Pay attention and do all the material he assigns you will make an A. I will be taking my other finance classes with him (if available).
Han is a bit hard to understand with his accent, but beyond that there's no text book. Nothing to refer back to when the professor is unclear. Second, the power points given out are confusing and unclear and do not demonstrate usable examples. Third, questions on the exams were beyond what the powerpoints teach. Stay away.
Han taught us not just finance, but hard work, patience, dedication and great attitudes. This class is a MBA class but he managed to make it very enjoyable. I would take him again.
Dr. Han Shi made this class very entertaining. If you work hard, you will be fine. He made his own lecture videos, his videos show how to use the calculator are very helpful. He held the zoom meeting every week and even helped to address the cases very thoroughly. I am very happy for his helps and efforts in this class. Highly Recommended.
Dr. Shi has a very high expectation from his students, and I had no problem with it. Dr. Shi devotes his time and energy to make sure that all of his students will succeed in his class. Lots of reading and homework, but gives extra credit works to improve final score. I highly recommend Dr. Shi because you will learn a lot from his class.
Dr. Shi provides very good quality materials. I do not have any issues with his class. As long as you work and thoroughly study the course contents, It is very likely to get A. He is also very approachable with his emails (normally within one hour) and weekly zoom session. His practice exams are very useful. I highly recommended Dr. Shi.
Dr. Han Shi really cares about each student and he normally replies my email very quickly and his lecture videos and other supplement videos are very insightful. I studied all required contents and all videos, practice problems and two practice exams. Very solid A. Such a great class. I strongly recommend his class to future students.
Dr. Han Shi is a great teacher. Although this is on-line accelerated MBA class and requires students to put substantial efforts into it, it is an interesting class and very informative. His own videos and weekly zoom meeting are very helpful to understand the contents. He offers extra credits for students. Great class for me.
Dr. Han Shi goes above and beyond to help students. It is a hard class which is understandable since it is at the MBA level. He helps as much as he can to each individual student. He does expect students to make efforts and push them to learn the contents. super accessible and explain things clearly during each zoom session. I would take him again.
Dr. Han Shi cares about each student and it means a lot when a professor wants his students to succeed in the class. This class is not easy, but it is fairly manageable if you work for it. I think some of comments are unfair considering how much efforts he puts in to help students. He does not give free credits and you need to earn them.
Must be willing to work hard. No finance class is easy regardless of teacher. Dr. Shi really cared about the students and wanted us to succeed. I never felt he was against us but he wanted us to learn and gave us all the opportunities. Take advantage of the extra credit!! Would take again.
Make sure you put your efforts in it. This class is very informative and you will learn a lot from it. I like how Dr. Han Shi wants everyone to succeed in his class. The class design is very straightforward: three exams. five discussion forums, two cases. Make sure you watch his videos and do the practice exams. I would take him again.
His class is amazing. His lectures are so easy to follow and he actually works through the problems with us in the class and gives us in-class problems to practice. Very nice guy with lots of patience to help students. His excel projects are very good. Attendance is not mandatory, but do not skip too many classes. I will definitely take him again.
Dr. Shi is one of the most amazing instructors within the LSUS MBA program. His dedication to teach is exceptional. He grades the papers generously and exams are hard. Even if you study the course content you still wont make it 100% until you truly understand the key leanings of each module. He provides lots of practice problems prior to the exams.
This core MBA class was taught with the idea that everyone had a financial background and would pursue a career in financial management. Dr. Shi is knowledgable about finance, but he is not skilled at teaching the material. The amount of content was overwhelming and made it nearly impossible to truly learn - especially if you work full time.
Professor Shi made a difficult subject fun by mixing theory with real life case analyses. He kept the class engaged with a range of group and individual exercises. Would definitely take his class again when I get a chance
Dr. Han Shi is a great teacher for this class. He is always engaging into every zoom session and answers all questions from students. He pushes and motivates students to learn and grasp those interesting concepts. His way of instructing is very good and I like the course contents, very informative and useful for my career. Definitely take him again.
Dr. Han Shi's class is very organized and straightforward. I like how he demonstrated to students how to solve certain types of questions and how to use financial calculator. The class is very laid-back so that I can focus on the contents. I would definitely take him again if I have a chance.
He is a terrible professor. He doesn't teach the material. His tests and practice questions go far beyond the notes. His group assignment for 12 extra point on test 2 is laughable. Bc he taught nothing remotely close to the questions. He just the worst. Do not take his class you will regret it.
Excellent blend of theory, concepts, and real world examples to create value add practical knowledge for one's success. If you are hard working , very organized, and have serviceable advanced math skills, then you should do well to very well in this class. Min 20+ hrs per week commitment. Dr Shi responds efficiently and cares about the students.
I very enjoyed Dr. Han Shi's International Finance class. His class is not only interesting but also very practical. His class is a neat combination of theories, case analysis, and practices. His cases are very inspiring as well. Finally, he also incorporated the Stocktrak simulated trading game to wrap up the contents. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Great class and great professor. You will have weekly quiz, 5 discussion forums, 3 exams, and group case project. He provides extra credits to help students. His lecture videos are very helpful. Weekly zoom session to address students' questions. Dr. Shi is very accessible and he replies emails very quickly. I can tell he very cares about students.
It was a really good class. Dr. Shi replied emails very quickly despite of a large size class. The class contents were very comprehensive and practical, covering those materials I am sure I will use at my workplace. Dr. Shi is willing to take extra steps to help us to understand and prepare for the exams and quizzes. Definitely take his classes.
Lots of opportunity to bring up grade with extra credit assignments. He clearly shows interest in students through his zoom sessions.
Dr. Shi is a great professor. He cares about the success of his students and it shows. An A is achievable in this class. Watch all of his videos, read the supplemental information, and participate in Zoom meetings. Dr. Shi is accessible and answers all emails in less than a day. The class can be a lot of work so don't fall behind. Highly recommend!
This class and material was difficult but Dr. Shi is a good prof and good dude. He is always available to answer your questions, even answered emails on the weekend. The grading criteria is very clear. There were weekly quizzes, three exams, and a group project. If you study, do the extra credit and attend the weekly meetings, you'll be fine.
Dr. Han Shi has been an amazing professor so far. He participated in weekly zoom meetings where he answered any questions available, posted videos on how to work questions and how to use financial calculator. He gives study guides for exams and also helped with an issue I had with proctor U. He went out of his way to email them and solve my issue.
Dr. Shi is very knowledgable. He is available outside the class hours. Very respectful, honest, and upfront. I recommend his class to everyone.
I chose Dr. Shi's class because of the high rating and good reviews. I am so glad that I did. This class is awesome. Contents are very good and Dr. Shi is such a caring professor. Super accessible even during the weekends. The Zoom session each week addressed lots of my questions. I felt very confident for each test and received a very good grade.
A great class with a great professor. Dr. Shi is very patient with every student and his group project is very useful. I like the fact he prepared the lecture videos and financial calculator videos for us. Making our lives much easier. Beside, additional resources are also provided to make sure we succeed in his class. Highly recommended.
Offers extra credit on exams which is very helpful. Very accessible by email and by freq review sessions. Recommend having a good foundation before taking this course as this is expected and his explanations can be . Fast pace. Has strong accent so at times difficult to follow. Practice problems can be very tough but good tool for learning
Dr. Shi is a great professor for this class. Practice problems are harder than the actual exam, so you if you understand the practice problems you should do fine on exams. He respond to emails quickly. Everything for the class is very organized in moodle.
Professor Han is the best professor I have ever had at LSUS. A man that cares about his students on an academic and personal level. He strives to succeed and pushes students to do the same. His teaching style is by far the most advanced at LSUS, and other professors should take notes. If you get the chance to take Prof. Han, DO IT!
FIN 701 w/ Professor Shi is comprised of 3 exams, 6 quizzes, 1 group project, and 6 discussion posts. A significant amount of extra credit is given throughout the course. Dr. Shi is also very accessible throughout the week and he's an easy grader. I literally failed all exams and over half of the quizzes & still came out with an 86.
Dr. Han Shi is awesome. Very professional and cares about his students. If you have the chance I would highly recommend taking Dr. Shi.
Dr. Shi sincerely cares about each student. He made his own lecture videos and explained concepts and numerical questions clearly. He was always available outside the class even during the weekends and replied my emails very quickly. Three non-cumulative exams, weekly quizzes, Mylab finance, weekly home assignments and zoom meetings.
Class needs a textbook. Powerpoints were not helpful. Had to use outside sources or I would have failed. What was on the tests was not exactly what we studied. I felt the quizzes and exams were tricky on purpose. He does give tons of extra credit though so that is why I would take him again. W/out the EC, I would have failed though.
As a student without prior finance knowledge, I like the fact Dr. Shi provides lecture videos and weekly zoom sessions, which helps me a lot. His accessibility even during the weekends is superb and he replies my emails within a hour. This class is a great mix of theories, practices, and analytics with additional extra credits opportunities.
I like Dr. Han Shi's attention to details and continued efforts to help us with the course contents and our successes in this class. This class is not an easy one since it is an AP MBA class. The course materials are very comprehensive and covers lots of interesting topics I am sure I will use them for my job. Definitely would take him again.
Dr. Shi apparently cares about his students. Very enjoy this class and very pleased with the amount of information provided. The class is very organized with practice problems, weekly quiz, practice exams, lecture videos and notes, and exam review sheets. Great explanations on the zoom sessions. He responds my questions very quickly and clearly.
Glad I took this class with Dr. Shi. The material is tough. There are weekly quizzes and forum, one group project and three exams. Dr. Shi is always accessible and weekly zoom sessions help with any questions students have. He also provides opportunities for extra credit which are very helpful. Definitely recommend taking his class.
Han Shi is the best professor I have had so far in the program. He helped with an exam on a Saturday. The class is fair and he gives extra credit. The teacher provides a clear syllabus, weekly meetings to discuss Q&A and is timely if you need to email him questions. If you simply read the slides and do your best, you will succeed with a B min.
This class exceeds my expectations on managerial finance. I have gained a good foundation foundation on managerial finance over the past 7 weeks. Dr. Shi cares about students and response time on emails is great. I like the group project. It is very practical and the general feedback provided really helps me to be better prepare for exams.
The course material is very tough but Dr. Shi is very accessible through emails and hosts weekly zoom sessions. There are weekly quizzes and discussion posts, a group project, and 3 exams. Extra credit opportunities are available for exams which is helpful.
Dr. Shi provided us with a massive amount of information, remembering this is a Masters level class, but was readily available to provide assistance and explanation as often as needed. Passionate about ensuring you have the information. Provides extra credit opportunity and wants all to succeed.
I feel that Dr. Shi has gone above and beyond to help us to succeed. His zoom sessions are always very helpful and clear. His grading criteria is very easy to follow. He replied my emails even during the weekends at 3:00 am. He was always there to address any issues we had. Definitely a caring professor.
Dr. Shi helps students greatly with extra explanations and exercises. He is very nice and patient. I have learned quite a lot from his class.
Dr. Shi was an undeniably nice person but unfortunately, without prior/VERY recent finance you might as well consider your grade a C or lower. Study guides and exams don't directly correlate at all. I failed every quiz and exam, without the pity extra credit and case analysis I would've failed the class. Again nice guy, but horrible course.
Dr. Shi is always available to answer my questions. There are lots of contents since this is an accelerated MBA class. Some of them are difficult to digest first. With his helps, I found this class to be manageable. As long as you put sufficient efforts to understand and practice, you should be fine. He also provides extra credits.
Dr. Shi is very caring and wants his students succeed. He is very accessible, even on weekends. The course consisted of weekly discussion and quiz, 1 group project, and 3 exams. There were plenty of extra opportunities. I've enjoyed taking this class, and learned a lot .
Professor Han Shi is a great professor! He provides relevant material and tries to do everything he can to get students to succeed. He offers Extra Credit after every exam. I would recommend him to everyone!
Do NOT take Mr. Shi for FIN701. He will not teach you the information needed for the tests. The only plus side is he gives extra credit. He will give you notes and practice exams, but the actual exam will not include anything from those. If you don't mind having to google every thing, then go ahead. If you want a professor to teach you, then move
I very enjoy Dr. Shi's class. I was worried about the accessibility to the instructor since it is an on-line class. Not anymore, Dr. Shi has been very accessible and he replied my emails very quickly at night. Make sure to study the lecture notes and other materials for exams.
This professor is absolutely horrible! This guy gives 25-30 points of extra credit for every exam. Unless you are a rocket scientist in Finance, there is no way that you will score an A on the exam without the extra credit. You can pass the class with 3 letter grades of extra credit but you will suffer the whole course. Heed my warning.
Dr. Shi is genuinely assisting us students as I learnt lots of valuable information regarding finance. He hosts weekly office hours and is readily available via email. I would recommend students to take his class.
Dr. Shi seems to be very interested in the student passing his class. Lots of material presented but he will help you through. Extra credit was invaluable to me. 11/10 would take again
FIN701 is no joke and not a walk over course. I would not recommend pairing it with another course as it is time consuming. It covers a lot of material but Dr. Shi helps you throughout it all and provides extra credit for all exams. He is very quick on responding to emails sent and even keep zoom session to help students with difficult questions.
Dr. Shi is a caring professor & will answer all your questions during his optional weekly zoom meetings. However, the exams were extremely difficult. They do not reflect his lecture notes. The averages for his 3 exams were: 65%, 57%, and 51%. Prepare to use multiple outside sources to fully understand the material. Luckily, he provides a lot of EC
Overall, I enjoyed my experience with this professor. I scored very good on each of exams without extra credits. I highly suggest to study his lecture notes and videos thoroughly. They helped me a lot to succeed on each exam. Do prepare to spend a lot of time digesting the materials. I also like the weekly zoom sessions and case analysis.
Dr. Shi is such a caring professor. The class is very tough and covers lots of contents. He hold weekly zoom sessions to answer all questions. If you study his lecture notes, work on the problems, and follow his guidelines, you should be fine. He replies emails very quickly and provides extra credits. Overall, a great class.
Dr. Shi works very hard and expects you to as well. My only complaint is the amount of material you're expected to absorb. If you don't have a foundation in finance, you won't retain that much info. Dr. Shi is a very fair grader though, and offers multiple extra credit opportunities.
Great class with a great professor. Dr. Shi really wants students to succeed as his zoom sessions and emails indicate. His dedications to help students are remarkable. He does has high expectations on students and make sure you devote enough time to learn. This class is hard and also rewarding.
Dr. Shi is a great professor who truly wants his students to succeed. The course is quite intensive and requires a lot of hours per week; weekly quizzes, bi-weekly exams, weekly forum posts & responses, a group project, lots of lecture. However, if you put in the time, you will do extremely well. I put in a ton of work but got a 99%.
This class takes up a lot of your time, but overall fairly easy. Lots of reading- 2 chapters per week and homework in MyLab along with weekly quizzes (not proctored) and exams. He gives PowerPoints and lectures -has a thick accent, so beware but he clearly cares and wants his students to learn and pass. Held weekly zoom meetings for questions.
Didnt learn a GD thing about finance in this class. I couldnt understand the Professors thick accent so lectures were useless. Scored two Cs and a D on the exams but still managed to get an A in the class because of very liberal extra credit opportunities. I plan to actually learn finance by auditing a Coursera course after graduation.
I dropped this class previously because I wasn't grasping the material. I'm glad the second time around I took Dr. Shi. He obviously cares so much about his students and is very helpful. He provides a ton of points and extra credit (which makes it easy to pass!). It takes work, but he definitely helps a ton!
Financial Management was a hard class that covered a lot of topics in a short timeframe. Be prepared to learn at fast pace in this class. Dr. Shi's lectures in this class are a bit hard to understand and follow. I found myself having to go to outside sources to learn some of the material. Also, make sure you complete the extra credit assignments.
This class is my first class I've taken at LSUS and I was very disappointed. The professor gives you a TON of reading material and then an exam for only 20 questions. If the first exam you give and over 75% of the class fail. Something is not working. If this wasn't a core class I would never take it. STUDY EVERYTHING, join a study group to pass
Hands down hardest class I have ever taken. Extra credit allowed me to receive an A, even though my test average was a low C. You will work hard for a C test average if this type of math is not in your wheelhouse. Group project was graded easily. Thank goodness for extra credit.
Hardest class that I have ever taken. The EC made it easy to pass but the tests were much more complex than the powerpoint slides. I would remember the non mathematical questions from the quizzes as they often appear on tests and will help you out. It is alot of work but it is doable.
I am not sure how is this teacher ranking high. He absolutely does not know how to teach. Not everyone has a finance background and he has not attempted to make the material more understandable. Please do yourself a favor and do not take this teacher. I regret of not dropping this classs.
Dr. Shi makes every effort to teach students, go above and beyond. He was always professional and held multiple zoom sessions to make sure we understand the contents. He offers Slides with notes, live Zoom sessions, pre-recorded zoom sessions, practice exams, practice questions with answers provided mid-week. Very organized.
Dr. Shi was very knowledgeable. He makes himself available daily, this was one of my worries while starting the online class but the professor made it happen. I also like the connections between the course material and everyday life that I am able to apply the material into both professional and personal lives.
Dr. Shi should substantially simplify the course contents and exam questions so that anyone studying the class for one hour a day should pass with ease. Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed how hard the contents and exam questions were, which made me fail the exams. I really think he should only teach the undergraduate not the MBA class.
This course is difficult and quite extensive but Dr. Shi gave us substantial assistance to help us learn the material . He was very knowledgeable, organized, and great professor who truly wants his students to succeed. He provides a lot of extra credits but you have to follow instructions otherwise you get less credit.
Dr. Han is always accessible, extra credit is generous, mixed-use of terminology without laying the correlation out directly. This is essentially a self-taught via notes course. Run through the course notes and practice problems. Ensure you understand what is being asked in the questions.
He is one of my best instructors so far. When I had a question, he was quick to answer and clarify. Some advice, work out ALL the practice questions he gives you. I took his class last summer. Even after taking his class he was still quick to respond and help me with my future endeavors . He truly does care of about his students.
He is a very good professor, super thorough, but very hard to understand because of his very thick accent. I had to use closed captioning just to understand the lectures and even then it was difficult. He offers a good amount of extra credit that truly helps if you aren't fully understanding the material.
Awful TONs of work. Cant understand his lectures. Prepare to put lots of hours of study in a week 30+ hours. He gives extra credit for each test. Had to self taught in the web for other ways to understand the problems. For the group project assignment had to view the previous classes explanations from Dr Shi on how to do it.
You wont learn anything about finance but the extra credit is legit. The average grade on the 3 exams are an F no matter how hard you study, but you have opportunity to write some papers for extra credit so you basically pass. It stresses you out, but it is what it is. I failed every exam ( i have a 3.8 GPA otherwise), but somehow got a B.
This was by far the most difficult class I have taken within the MBA program. The professor does not really teach. He assigned 15+ hours of reading a week and I had to use YouTube to learn the material and spent 30 to 40 hours a week studying for this course. The extra credit is the only reason I passed this class. Prepare to put in a lot of work!
I am grade to take this class with Dr. Shi. He is very knowledgeable of the subject and provides tons of opportunities for students to succeed. With that being said, the class requires lots of works and studies. I did well on all exams without extra credits. I would say really focus on his lecture notes and two zoom sessions each week.
Dr. Shi is very accessible and answers my questions very quickly. His lecture notes, practice exams, practice problems and zoom sessions help me a lot as the one from non-business background. I very enjoy his teaching and course contents.
I almost dropped this course after the first week but I am glad I stuck with it. Dr. Shi's lectures really did help and he also provides extra resources for you weekly. He does care if you understand the course work and provides 2 live lectures weekly for the class to participate in. It is a grad level class so be prepared to work hard.
This is definitely one of hardest classes I even took with the MBA program but it is very educational. I very like extra credits opportunities and the case analysis, which are very practical. Dr. Shi 's helps and cares about our learning really make a huge difference. It is doable to make a A, but be ready to work for it.
Dr. Shi Han was always available to answer any class related questions, even in the weekends. He provided detailed explanations and wanted to make sure the subject was understood. Every week he made two zoom sessions with open questions . If you didn't succeed in his class, you shouldn't be enrolled in the program, period! Highly recommended !
Great class, no textbook, he provides lecture slides, one group project, but it is pretty easy if you paid attention to the previous modules. He really focuses on your success as a student. Do the extra credits, tests can be a little difficult. I would take him again. Don't fall behind on the reading, do the practice tests, you'll get a good grade
This class was slow torture! The professor makes himself available weekly for zoom calls and quickly responds to email. The problem is there is no textbook and his lectures are hard to follow. The exams are very difficult. The only saving grace is the extra credit. Do them all!!! That is the lifesaver. Don't drop the class even when it gets rough.
Dr. Shi was great, would recommend. He truly cares and makes himself available to help students. He truly wanted us to succeed but also made it known that I would have to work for it. Great class. I learned a lot from it.
I was very fortunate to get Han Shi as an instructor. I loved how Dr. Shi is very responsive outside of class and how much he cares about student success. Finance is such a difficult course and it is rare to find a professor who understands the struggle so I am glad Dr. Shi was kind.
This was my first online class in the MBA program after being out of school for around 7 years. I did take me awhile to get in the groove with studying, however the material and his lectures were a bit over my head. The extra credit assignments, and the group project were my saving grace. The homework assignments count towards your grade also
Took this class with no finance background, that I believe was my first mistake. Hw every week, not graded, & he posted the solutions a which was helpful. He also posted previous class zoom lectures and had a couple live zoom study sessions every week. Exams were impossible; i failed every exam, I only passed because of the extra credit.
Dr. Han Shi is very knowledgable, but does not know how to effectively communicate and teach. I lost interest in the coursework at the end. Interaction with him is demotivating, online zoom discussions did not help at all. It was a total nightmare. Stay away.
Lots of extra credit. Class materials are difficult to understand. Exams are hard. Lectures are difficult to follow. Will not take again.
Dr. Han is clearly knowledgeable and caring about students and works hard to ensure his students gain a solid footing in his courses. Finance is one of the hardest courses in the program. Dr. Shi has live zooms, responds back to you quichly when you reach out, and really cares if you are comprehending the material.
I liked the fact that Dr. Shi is Very direct and resourceful through the entire course. I liked the course notes and practice problems that were provided each week, the flexibility of the class and how the information was presented with examples, and the quick responses from Dr Shi. Definitely a 5 star class.
Dr. Shi is an amazing professor and he cares about his students doing well and comprehending the material.
I really enjoyed how organized this class was. It was very easy to follow which helped my learning. Dr. Shi is always available and wants to help his students succeed.
Great professor, great class.
Dr. Shi is very accessible for students even during the weekends. This class is hard but he manages to make it understandable for students, weekly zoom sessions, lecture videos, practice problems and practice exam questions are available. He gives lots of tools for students to succeed.
This class is very disorganized on moodle. There is an enormous amount of reading snd writing assessments and a group project all combine only worth 40% of grade Everything hinges on only 3 short tests The professor is a really nice guy who cares about students and is helpful but structure of course does not support that
This class is extremely organized. Three exams, 5 discussion forums, one group project, and 6 self-assessments. No much writing assignments, all exams and self-assessments are from lecture notes. Professor cares a lot of students and wants us to succeed. It shows.
In general the class was ok. But the instructor was not willing to share his personal phone number so that I could not call him whenever I have questions. This made my life so difficult and I would have done much better on the exams otherwise. Very disappointed.
Dr. Shi is a bit hard to understand, so I would suggest turning on CC to his videos. With the size of the class, I was really impressed with his quick responses to my emails. The only thing I would do differently would be not doing the group project on my own. He tries to help w free-riders, but the quality of work was not the same from everyone.
With the extra credit opportunities throughout the course you will do well by completing ALL of your work. The key is to not skip out on opportunities to get extra credit and completing every smaller assignment. This professor did load down the portal with information, lectures, videos, and content that was a bit excessive. Focus on the priorities.
Professor Shi is great, the material is very tough/complex & he completely understands that! Provides, lectures, zoom sessions+helpful videos. Lots of formulas/reading, so be prepared to work. The professor offers a few extra credit opportunities, don't skip it will be helpful the further along you move in the course!
Homework is kinda difficult, but it is made to be easy to learn.
Professor Shi, is hands-down a great teacher! He has multiple zoom calls each week to go over the homework and answer any questions for the students. The class is tough, due to the material being covered, but with plenty of feedback and credit opportunities, an A is within reach of ANY student. I would take any class Dr. Shi taught.
Do not be deceived by the high scores of this professor if you value your sanity. Although making an A in this class is attainable, it can only be done so through the ridiculous amount of extra credit given to compensate for the entire classes' failing test scores. Everyone in his class should be on LSUS' payroll b/c we all had to teach ourselves.
Plenty of extra credit opportunities, which you need as exams are challenging and the final is diabolical. If you put in the work on the weekly ~100 slides of notes, weekly discussion posts, weekly open book quiz, 1x case study, and 3 exams you should get an A but the material is challenging and not presented helpfully. Weekly Zoom calls useless.
Great instructor, cares about student sucess. Material is tough and he provides a TON of information. 3 tests (minimum 24% additional from Xtra credit ). Easy weekly discussion posts. Weekly self assessment quizzes that are open book. One group project that is relatively simple. If you are struggling with finance, TAKE THIS CLASS.
I did not get much support from Dr. Shi. Homework problems w/ solutions were difficult to follow and did not prepare you for the tests. Homework did not prepare you for test. Extra credit allowed me to get an A but the stress of trying to figure out formulas via google and then failing the tests was overwhelming. You will spend over 20 hours.
I want to say that this rating is not personal but teaching is not his calling. The class is very difficult. I failed the majority of my tests. Lecture heavy and difficult to follow. Tests are very hard. Extra credit was the only reason I passed. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!! You have been warned. EXTREMELY STRESSFUL!! Glad I got out alive.
Hardest class I have ever taken. I have no finance background - it was extremely tough. Don't watch his lectures they are useless. Read the lecture notes, do the practice problems, & practice exams. Breakout: 5 discussions, 6 HW, 1 group casestudy, 2 tests & 1 final (non-cum). Averages on tests were in the 60s. Only got an A bc of extra credit.
Very good instructor. Gave lots of supports to students, weekly zoom sessions and quick replies to my emails. He did everything for students to succeed in the class.
Zoom lectures consist of professor reading directly from his 60 to 80 page Power Point presentation which is assigned weekly for reading. The assigned readings are completely incomprehensible. The exams are even worse. You spend hours on top of hours on You Tube trying to gain a remote understanding of what you should learn in class. Extra Credit
My 8th class in the program and easily the worst. There is nothing of value in this course, with a ton of useless links plastered through Moodle. Everything was self-taught through the help of YouTube. Zoom lectures are only helpful of you understand the material thoroughly has they were only utilized as clarification sessions. Run far away.
Extremely difficult class, I only made a B due to the extra credit. Don't bother listening to the lectures, they are useless. Make sure you learn the concepts so you can get a high F on the exams and then pass with the extra credit. You cannot use full formula sheets on the exams, calculator steps are painful to learn. THE CLASS IS HORRIBLE!
The Prof won't share non graded items solutions unless you email him. Lecture notes sound straightforward, but the graded content is not. Be prepared to study 30 to 40 hours a week to receive a C or D on the exam, which is "normal" for this class. Other than that, the Prof is very responsive to emails and expresses he wants students to succeed
Run far away. Wish I read more thoroughly before looking at Prof Shi's ratings at the top. This course is very challenging and a lot of work. 3 test (hard-class avg ~60%), weekly post(easy), lectures and ppts (10+ hrs week), group project, and hours of practice problems. Truly had to earn this A- and I have a bachelors and background in Finance.

PLEASE READ- This is the HARDEST class I've ever take at both undergrad/graduate level. This was intense and required several hours of studying DAILY just to get decent grade! If it was not for the available extra credit, I would have FAILED this class without a doubt! I think Dr. Han genuinely cares about his students but teaching is not his thing
If you study and do every extra credit opportunity you should pass the class. The test are hard but the extra credit makes up for it. Dr. Shi cares and wants you to pass his class. I would recommend this class if you have a little bit of extra time to complete all the work and extra credit.
DO THE EXTRA CREDIT! It made all 3 of my exam grades A's and 2 were very VERY far from an A when the test was taken. Quizzes every week, bonus points if you complete all of them on time. Easy grader on the discussions. Group case study was a breeze with my group. Offers practice exams but no answers are given so you have to find the right solution
Dr. Shi was a great professor. There were hates about him on GroupMe from some students which I do not understand. He was always accessible and helpful. Extremely caring for all students. I think he was doing the most he can to help each of us.
MBA702 is a very heavy class regardless of who teaches (wkly quiz & forum, bi-wkly exam, 1 group project) and is probably the most difficult within the program. Shi puts in lot of effort into his class, doesn't simply make you read from outdated books. Makes himself available via 2 Zooms/wk. Responds quickly. Many opportunities to make an A.
Heavy class regardless of who teaches. Put in the work - easy A class. He gives you too many opportunities to not get an A. Held 2 Zoom sessions per week and responds quickly via email, even late at night. School's no return policy puts a constraint to review previous exams/quizzes with students which limits comprehension.
If you take this professor prepare to just self-teach. His lectures are hard to follow, his exams are impossible and he flat out tells you the average is about a 67% or below. He does give extra credit for 2 exams but it is 2 - 2 pages each size 11 font. Group case study with only gives you one week to complete. Avoid this class if you at all can.
I know this is one of the hardest classes in the program, managerial finance. I have no prior finance background. One group project, two exams and a final and the final is 20% of the grade. Weekly discussions and self assessments. Three extra credit opportunities worth two-three letter grades on exam points. Lots of optional resources, self taught.
Dr. Shi definitely cares about his students and gives ample opportunity to receive a decent grade. Extra credit activities were given after each exam for a minimum of 20 points to be added to your exam grade. Dr. Shi is very accessible through email and zoom, he responds very fast. The group case analysis is tough if you have a bad group.
The class itself is difficult, but Han did a great job teaching, videos are a little long. But tons of extra credit opportunities that can jump you 2 letter grades at least if completed. BEST FINANCE TEACHER I HAVE HAD.
I think the only reason why this professor has high ratings is because of extra credits on every exam. His tests are super tricky, and the homework takes an eternity to complete. With extra credit, I pulled out a C. Without it, I would have barely passed. All he does is read power points in his videos. No problem walkthroughs or explanations.
Be careful taking a course with Dr. Shi. It seems like the homework that is assigned on My Lab Finance is easy points, but the exams are not covered at all. All he does is read power points for his videos. I am pretty sure he gets high ratings because of the extra credits he offers. He also waited until the last week of class to grade items.
This is a tough class but there are a lot of extra credit opportunities. This is a writing heavy class which I was not expecting but there are weekly discussions, the group project is a paper, and the extra credit are also papers. I would recommend that you take MBA700 accounting before taking this class as the background knowledge really helps!
Super easy class and professor. He grades quickly and most of the answers for the test are on Chegg or Quizlet. The only thing that may be difficult is the small group project, its easy if you have a solid group.
I am really wondering if all the students giving this guy a high rating had the same teacher as I did. How is he caring? How is he teaching AT ALL?? All he does is read a powerpoint. He claims his tests come from a test bank, but I beg to differ. This was my first C in the business program, and I took him based on the results here. I'd stay away
I recommend taking MBA 700 before this class. It will de
He reads from the slides and his examples and practice problems do not prepare you for the exams. I ended up getting the Fundamentals of Corporate Finance (McGraw Hill) to understand better. There are plenty of zoom calls and extra credit opportunities, so I must praise Dr. Shi for his devotion after hours to assist.
Tough Course but there is plenty of room in the extra credit. He offers extra credit papers for each exam, this can boost your final course grade by TWO letter grades. The group case analysis is tough but its based on module 5. So study module 5 and you're good for the case analysis. Worth taking and worth putting in the time on the extra credit.
An incredibly difficult course as expected. Use quizlet to self learn concepts and pay close attention to weekly assignments. Group project is only a week but if you have a good group it's not bad. A ton of extra credit papers to make up for doing poorly on the exams. Unfortunately this is just one of those necessary evil courses in the program.
The professor is dedicated, offering ample extra credit and support through zoom calls and email. While the class is challenging, using resources like ChatGPT, Quizlet, and Unstuckstudy can make it manageable. Put in the work, and you'll likely walk away with a solid grade.
This class is hard; that is not Dr. Shi's fault, he really helps his students. I had only taken intro to accounting b4 this. The extra credit is amazing. Watch the lectures, take notes. Drill the math, use Quizlet, DBs are easy. Group project can be annoying but not hard. I work FT, this was my only class, took me 20+ hours a wk. Dr. Shi is great.
Do the extra credit and study and you will certainly pass!!
Overall had a positive experience. I only read the powerpoints each week. There was a discussion post (or group assignment) and self assessment (unproctored) each week. Seemed to be an easy grader for these. Every other week there was a proctored exam (covered two modules); plenty of extra credit opportunities available to supplement the exams.
Umm....the math itself isn't even difficult it's just that the self assessments and slides won't really prepare you for tests. Also, his wording on the tests can be interesting so it can easily throw you off. Good thing is that there are too many extra credit opportunities for you to not pass the class. The instructor is really nice though!
I found this class challenging as I am not a math person and have been out of school for a bit. I ended with an A. Extra credit helped a lot!!!
