Just plain awesome...She teaches through powerpoint and an A is really possible. So do try to get her. Later... PS 3 tests
Simply a good teacher. Her Powerpoint slides are VERY helpfull.... Just pay attention to everything she says in class and make good notes.... Class is NOT borring and "A" IS possible... good luck ...
Dr. El-Mayas is a decent professor. She gives alot of information during her lecture, but it is all covered in the book. Even her notes borrow heavily from the book. There are plenty of good resources that come with the textbook, and she uses alot of information from the online book site on her tests. There is no reason not to pass this class.
Good Professor. Lots of great info in class, too bad its so early and everyone's tired. She has good tests, and they are fairly easy. Slides area always available for lectures, which is GREAT! Overall good prof.
this professor is very rude and not helpful at all. she also has a thick accent, and it is difficult to understand her lectures. her tests are extremely hard. you have to study and attend class to pass. if possible, do not take her class.
She has the thickest accent, youll be lucky to understand anything!!
Her accent makes the information very difficult to understand. Shes very jumpy from subject to subject and its hard to pay attention.
I had her at a different school and I looked her up just because I knew that bad comments would be said. She was mean and unhelpful then, and looks like she still is.
i had her for microbiology lecture. my review of her and her class is somewhat mixed b/c it is a relatively easy class, but i didn't learn as much as i had hoped. her tests are pretty easy as long as you study...so an A is definately possible.
Wow! She makes the class interesting. Love the class bc how she teaches and explains things make it interesting. Best class. She has an accent and can confuse herself sometimes but she is amazing , she tells u what;s on the test, what u need to know what u dont have to study, she gives u questions of the test in class and says this write down.GREAT
Her tests are easy. have to attend classes to know stuff on exam. Gives reviews for the tests.Final exam is not comprehensive.Tells us important things in class which you see 100% in the exam.she is good.
I sat in this class for the summer and she caught my attention. I heard about her accent and expected the class to be horrible but I ended up being very intrigued. She does have an accent but she its not that bad. She has a good sense of humor and her class wasnt that hard.4 Tests and that's it. Plus she puts ALL of her notes online. Take her!
She's a nice person and her class is not so hard. I would take her for other classes, too.
I've never had a more engaging professor. She explains the material very well...she's thorough, but not long-winded. Never needed the book to study, tests were solely based on lecture notes (which are all posted online). Study guides for all tests.
She's an amazing professor! I loved her class! She's really good at explaining things. Attendance isn't mandatory, but I took her in the summer and she gave extra credit to those who stayed the entire class time. Her tests are not the easiest, but hey biochem will be easier for you if you study now!! Take her, she's awesome.
She is o.k. Her tests are not too hard, but you do have to study quite a bit to make a decent grade. The one thing I can't get over is the time she takes to return tests to student. She takes FOREVER. Other professors are able to post grades the same day sometimes. She takes 1.5 to 2 weeks. I wouldn't take her again just because of this.
She was fun and tells interesting stories. Somewhat facetious but that's a good thing. Nice legs.
she is awesome! She is so knowledgeable that make sher class increadibly interesting!
She's a really good teacher, though the class is pretty hard. Managed a B+, and i really did put a lot of effort into it.
She can be nice or mean- depends on the day. She is very intellegent about the subject. Dont ask her to repeat anything. Dont talk. Somewhat of an accent when speaking. Tests are challenging- study the online quizzes (from the textbook website) and the powerpoints- that makes up the tests. Loses track of time and doesn't cover some info.
Her class was very interesting and the information was clear and direct. Only what she mentioned in class was in the tests.
Terrible. Terrible Class.
I really liked her. She was funny and knowledgeable. Her tests are all multiple-choice but some of the questions can be ambiguous. All her powerpoints are online but she adds things to the tests that she talks about in class.
She is nice when she wants to be. Don't ask dumb questions because you will feel sorry for asking them. Test are tricky material is hard, but interesting. She knows her subject, but grading is sketchy.
Class was really interesting. I wanted to go to class everyday. I didn't need the textbook. The tests are all off of the online quizzes or her powerpoints/lectures. The tests really weren't difficult if you reviewed those materials.
I personally found the lecture confusing and very hard to follow. But she gives all of her notes online, gives study guides for tests, gives some extra credit, so it was still possible to do well. Nice, cool lady.
Use the study questions and study guidef or the ;as test. The questions come directly from there word for word
A little on the gray side with clarity, but made the class funny. Learn whatever study guides she give for review. They are the test. She knows micro well and made the subject very interesting.
great
very scattered. do the online quizes she shows you in the beginning of class becuase they are the test. her lectures are all over the place just like her train of thought.
Not very clear in class (has an accent that is sometimes hard to understand). Her powerpoints...and train fo thought for that metter are scattered. BUT the class is not too bad. Just do the quizes in the book at the end of the chapters and the online quizes and you'll be fine. Its not an easy A but it is manageable.
The class is ok. The professor is kind of scatterbrained she loses her train of thought often. the powerpoints are always out of order and the tests often had multiple repeat questions. Study the online quizzes and the notes from class. She may be a little loopy but she means well.
I won't totally god her class, but it definitely wasn't easy, and I managed to get out with a B+. Don't even think about asking her questions during the lecture. I listened to her belittle several classmates for asking questions we were all wondering. ATTEND the SI's and do the online book quizzes. That'll help you the most.
Inconsistent. She didnt seem to have a good grasp of the material. She made several errors on her tests (and powerpoints, which lack proper punctuation, among other things), therefore the results were not always accurate. Avoid taking her if possible.
Though knowledgeable, she is inconsistent and can go off topic easily. Her powerful point notes are not at all helpful, study the reviews and go to review sessions instead. Will yell at student in front of class over little things. This prof is mean and unstable, will not take her again if avoidable.
Good teacher. Funny and very knowledgeable. Tests are strait from power points and the book.
Ok, She is very Scatter Brain and will get an Attitude with anyone but as far as the class it is managable. The test come from the PowerPoints, Mutiple choice questions at the end of each chapter and the online quizes with the edition 5 of nester microbiolgy book. She gives you a study guide only for the final. If you do it u will make an A on final
Wonderful teacher. Very knowledgeable and on point. Tests are extremely fair and straight forward. If you actually study, you will get an A. I got a's on the first two tests so far and will get an A in the class. She also gives extra credit. Very sweet lady. TAKE HER.
Tests are straightforward and from the book. If you are expecting to find an essay or discussion to curve your grade - this is not the class for you. It's multiply choice and right or wrong. Attendance is irrelevant to her and only the 4 tests count towards the grade.
The class is manageable. Tests are fair, but you still have to study a lot. It is sometimes difficult to understand her but overall, she is still a good professor.
Not a good teacher!!! Does not follow the slides she shows during class. Her teast don't reflect the slides she provides. She goes way off on unrelated tangents. She gets mad when you ask her a question. It takes her a couple weeks to get test grades back. DON"T DO IT!!
very intelligent person! she really knows microbiology inside and out. 4 tests total and extra credit. her tests are from her pwpts, so i suggest you attend class. 3-4chapters/test. easy a if you focus. :)
Professor is somewhat scatter brained, because she does go into tangents, however, if you do the study guides, which are straight from the book which you will need, and attend SI sessions whenever you have questions you will be fine. You only have 4 tests in this class which are your whole grade. Good luck!
So disorganized!!! her tests are fairly straightforward and she seems knowledgeable, but she is so disorganized when it comes to making the powerpoints and tests.
I didn't even have a textbook for the class and I made an A+ in her class. Just focus and bring copies of the slides to class and attend SI sessions. Very good teacher to me. Easy A+!
she is great in any way, she is fun and very helpful but dont try to take advantage. go to the class take notes and you wont need the book. i took three courses with her i would more if i could.
A great teacher! She really knows the subject and gave very interesting lectures. Helpful and provided study guides for tests 3 & 4. No final exam and chance for bonus points at end of semester. Really didn't need the book but did need to attend class as she will make changes to power point during class.
Very disorganized making lectures so confusing. The tests do not follow the lecture notes and are rather confusing. She knows her information, but cannot be organized to teach it well. I do not recommend taking her at all if you want to be organized and understand the subject.
Some believe that Dr. El-Mayas is rude, but I think that she is funny. Her tone is misconstrued as harsh due to cultural differences. She is very straightforward. Her test come directly from notes, power points, and study guides. She is very accessible, but somewhat unwilling to negotiate on wrong test answers. Study the notes, you'll get an A+.
at first her tests were based from the book and powerpoints but later on, she switched to the method where she gave us the test questions and we would have to find the answers on our own and we didn't know which questions would be on the test. she's sometimes hard to understand, and her lectures are boring. but i made an A from those study guides!
Her lecture are hard to understand and her class is NOT an easy A. The class requires you to know the material before her lectures and you are force to know the material since cramming doesn't really help for her exam.
Her lectures are irrelevant to the tests... meaning, they are horrible... you can barely understand what she is saying! Hated that class! But she is a nice lady.
I found that Dr. El-Mayas was unorganized, inconsistent, and not always fair. She tends to say whatever she thinks regardless of whether its appropriate. Her test graders often make mistakes, so be sure to review your tests when the opportunity becomes available. If you are going to disagree with her...good luck with that!
always goes off tangent and has an accent. nice lady though! her tests are not that hard as everyone says, just make sure to read and DEFINITELY look at her ppts. she tells you site to go on in the beginning of semester and she takes some test questions from there. only 3 tests, no curve, last 2 had a study guide that was VERBATIM in the exam! :)
4 test, last 2 gives you study guide. Pay attention and take good notes, but hard sometimes because she is REALLY boring and has an accent. DON'T BUY A BOOK, if you really need one get the 5th edition online. Attendance not mandatory.
There are 4 tests and no final which is good. If you ask for study guides she might give them to you. The tests can be pretty hard though because she'll throw in random questions about something she breezed through during lecture. I say if you're willing to go to lectures and study hard then you should be okay...
She is a very sweet, funny woman. She lectures too long on one power point slide that is not even relevant to the exam. If test grades are low, she gives study guides which I recommend you study well! She says "ehh" a lot, which annoys me. She is very smart, and knows what she is talking about. Attend class, and pay attention. Received an A-.
I never went to class, but still managed to get a B. She literally gives out study guides that are identical to the test. MY problem came with doing the study guides the day before the test. I went to her office hours ONCE and she literally made me cry. She's a pretty mean and sarcastic person. I don't ever really want to see her again in my life.
DO NOT FORGET YOUR SCANTRON ON TEST DAY! I watched multiple students come unprepared and she will not hesitate to make you look foolish in front of the class. Overall, she is a good professor, seems to love and be knowledgeable about the subject, and her testing is very, very fair. I wouldn't bother getting the book--I never even opened it.
She can be very feisty & rude. She lectures too long on irrelevant topics. The tests are DIRECTLY derived from the study guide; so do them & memorize it! However, she’ll throw some random questions on the exams. Just read the chapter summaries before the exam & you should be fine.
I had her over the summer and her classes long and BORING. I never wanted to leave a class as much as this one. I think shes beginning to change the study guides so thats why I havent done as well as I wanted to but still study the quizlets and do the study guides bc they are exactly like the tests sometimes. didnt learn anything in here.
It was refreshing to have Dr. El-Mayas this summer. She is very knowledgeable and passionate about her field and it shows. She may come off a little bit distracted and unorganized but I found her hilarious during lecture. She gives you a study guide for each test. Use that as 90% of study material and quizlet/book about 10%. An easy A.
I honestly don't know how to describe this professor. The course was easy and hard at the same time. She gives study guides for each test and then switches up the material on the test. She is also VERY rude! Sometimes its funny other times its uncalled for. Take her class if you just want to pass not learn.
I've taken Dr. El Mayas for two courses and I got an A in both. I would take her again if she taught another undergrad class and I will probably take her class if I go to GSU for grad school. Her study guides are everything that will be on the test. Work in groups to fill them out because they are really long. Did a lot of case studies in groups.
50 questions scantron exam. She keeps you interested in her lectures with her stories that are related to the topic. I didn't try hard to pass her class. most of the test questions were from the study guide and some from the lecture. The extra credit at the end of the semester is 20 questions from her past exams, -she wouldn't tell the students.
I was expecting this class to be an easy A but it was alot more challenging than i thought it would be. The study guides were super long and will only make up about 50% of what the test incompassed. The tests were just unnecessarily hard
This woman. She changed her whole curriculum. Woman has us doing 7 exams throughout the semester. Yes sir, an exam every other week. Don't take her if you don't need the class. Fulfill the area x with another course. She gives study guides whose answers are on quizlet BUT take the answers with a grain of salt. they aren't always right. No curves.
She changed everything! I'm a bio-major and I took think class because Bio, Chem, and physics have my hands full. My friends told me her study guides were a replica of the test. Wrong!. She changed everything. I put more effort into this class and yet, I'm probably still failing. 7 tests. No quiz. No homework. No class attendance.
This woman is so difficult to follow in lecture. She gives study guides with questions that are on the test. HOWEVER, the study guides are extremely long and often times some things that will be on the test aren't even on the long study guide you spent the night before the test completing. Sadly, I think she's the easiest BIO2300 prof GSU's got.
Study Guides are given, some are long and others are short. I took her during the summer and once she fell behind there was no easy road after that. She's a funny lady and knows her stuff. Do those study guides! Study with the textbook, make flashcards and put in the work over the summer. Her tests are difficult, good luck!
One of the rudest professor i have ever had in my life. Don't ever ask her to upload the study guide early. Don't ask her questions either... I asked her a question. She said she was frustrated and it was my fault for not understanding it because i sat in the back... There are 4 tests, study hard. You need the book. There is 20-point extra credit
This is the worst professor I have ever had at GSU.I had my First C throughout my college year in this class.I took her only because I was told she was easy, at least, compare to the other Microbiology professor at GSU,Worst mistake, she gotten a lot harder, her study guides are super long. She gets off topic a lot. Only 4 exams, no extra credits
I got an A+ in this class because her study guides (They are very long) are exactly like the test and I did nonsense memorization. However, I truly regret taking this class because she was incredibly rude to me in more than one circumstance where I needed some clarification. She really doesn't seem like she wants to help students in any way.
The only reason I got an A+ in the class was because I completed all of the questions on the study guide. You wont be able to get an A or B in the class if you don't complete them fully. But beware, because they are lengthy and do take a lot of time to complete. The tests were easy in my opinion, 80% of them came straight from the study guide.
I took this class as honors over the summer and really enjoyed it. Read the book ahead of lecture and many of the questions people ask you will know the answer to because it is in the book! Over the summer there were 4 tests and extra credit, do the study guide/study the notes! Go to her office hours if you have questions, just memorize. Wasnt rude
Grade is based off 4 tests. Puts 20 extra credit questions on the final. Do her study guides and you can get an A. I never went to class but if you memorize the study guide word for word you can do good.
Do the study guides memorize every word never confront her abotbsomething you dont like in front of students
-Very disorganized in her powerpoints, often leading me to have to read the entire chapter of the book in order to make sense of it all. - Lectures: Long, Interesting, Confusing (if not looked over the material) - Exams: 4 , not too hard, but not easy - KNOW MATERIAL - Prep: Read ch., Do the studyguide, take notes, look over notes, go to class
Most of the test is word for word on the study guide, but refer to notes! Attending class is very important!
She goes over important things multiple times during lectures. Her tests are all on Quizlet, so it's easy to get good grades. She talks abrasively but she isn't rude, I overslept on a test day once and she let me stay after class and take it. Her attitude really depends on yours. Come to class every day, she gives some extra credit for attendance.
Took her over the summer. Lectures are long, sometimes they're funny and other times they're boring. Test are pretty straight forward. DO THE STUDY GUIDES! At least 3 of the 4 test were the same as the study guide. Record the lecture because a lot is being covered. May come off rude but means no harm. One chance at extra credit at the end.
Professor El Mayas was a good professor overall. She's really funny and cares for her students. If you need help then ask for it. 3 out of 4 tests are EXACTLY like the study guide so study those and notes taken in class. Gives a lot of Extra Credit opportunities!
Failed the first test and ended up with an A in the class. It was easy to recover with the extra credit. The study guides are the key to doing well in her class. Lectures can be long and boring, but pay attention to things she writes on the board or emphasizes. Don't bother with buying the book.
If you show up to class, respect her and her rules, READ THE BOOK, DO THE STUDY GUIDES and you will be sure to get an A. The study guides are basically a practice test, go over them plenty of times and the test will be a breeze. Dr. Hanan El-Mayas has a great sense of humor and can make a boring lecture more entertaining. She gives plenty of XC!!!
Do the study guides for the tests and you should be fine, 3 of 4 of her tests are exactly like the study guide! Lecture ppts and study guides from quizlet cover everything you need, so textbook not really needed. She really knows her stuff and mixes it with humor to make lectures more tolerable!
I love el-mayas, very nice woman. Get on her good side, or else she will kick you out of class for being on your phone, no joke. If you only go to class you should pass, if you read the textbook too youll get an easy A. She copy and pastes her study guide onto the tests, so actually do them
El Mayas is a solid choice, but knowing how to study in her class is key. I defiantly believe if you utilize the power points, study guides , and lecture notes you should get an A . The only problem is she distribute the study guide 3-4 days before the test and its quite extensive . But trust me if you review the study guide well it should be cool.
She is willing to help you and explain things to you if you see her in office hours. She is nice and funny in lectures, although she can get a bit confusing at times. She can sometimes come off as harsh but she doesn't mean any harm. She is really nice. Her tests aren't bad if you do the study guides, read the book, and read her powerpoints.
Take her class, easy 'A'. I took Dr. El-Mayas Fall 2017, I attended most classes because she usually gives answers to exams questions. She gives 3 Tests, 50 multiple choice questions, and a final, 50 MCQ. She gives study guide, study it well, those questions come from there. Take Dr. El-Mayas, gudluck
El-Mayas is a solid choice. She's funny and very nice. She's also willing to answer any questions you have. Her tests are her study guides, so be sure to do them and study them well. take her if you can.
She is pretty funny and is very knowledgeable in her field. Go to class. Her PowerPoints only hold basic info; she often gives in depth info in class. She gives study guides for all of her tests. DO THEM and you will make a good grade on them. Does not tolerate cheating & is very strict on test days. Loved her!
Dr. El Mayas is a straight forward professor. She lectures from PowerPoints in class and every once and a while shows a microbiology related film for extra credit. If you take the time to go to class and complete the lengthy study guides, the class and material will be a lot easier. I highly recommend taking if you need a microbiology credit.
Attendance isn't mandatory but the lectures are important. She provides study guides for every test, which are helpful but you will need to understand the information and not just memorize. First exam was the hardest for me and the third was just like the study guide. You can find all the case studies on quizlet. She's a good professor and funny.
Very boring, hard to understand, very disorganized
DONT DO IT
Seriously don't take her. She's crazy and disoriented. Her study guides are long and half of it isn't even on the test.
El-Mayas is not that bad, but you have to study her study guides not her powerpoint. There is too much information in her powerpoint to thoroughly go through them all but study her study guides, they are literally the test, and you should be fine.
Easy A. Her exams are basically the study guide so as long as you finish the study guide you should pass. I only got a C on the first exam because it wasnt anything like the study guide but the rest of them are and the final has extra credit questions. The only bad thing is she takes forever to put grades in.
If you want to actually learn something, then dont take her. She's very disorganized and goes off topics a lot during class times. I have learned nothing from her class. I only studied the study guides. Her powerpoints were not helpful for the exams. Make sure you come to class because there will be in class assignments.
Straight forward class. Skim the chapters and do the study guides and you will get an A.
She has a nasty attitude. She just jumps into conclusion very quickly. She has no sympathy for students.
Calls on the police if a student is not to her liking. Shame on her.
