BEWARE!!! Very hard class, very hard concept, and a professor who doesn't know up from down. The man made so many mistakes that it was impossible to learn, and the students were correcting him. If you take the class with Adler i wish you luck
He is a fairly new teacher and still has some glitches to figure out. However he is more than willing to assist students and go over concepts multiple times, just ask for help. Keep in mind that the concept of accounting is very difficult to grasp.
intro actg=tough subject. tries to help students, but not the best teacher. always willing to help, though. actg is one of those subjects that can be argued about. have to do all hw, read and listen in class to get good grade.
Nice guy. Willing to help, so make sure you go and ask him for help. Teaching methods aren't real clear, be prepared to teach yourself out of the book most of the time. He definitely knows his stuff though.
Very good teacher. He is the most willing to help out of any teacher I have had here at Chapman. This is a tough subject to learn and he has a lot of experience. He is still figuring out the best way to teach everything but he still does a good job.
very good guy, not that great of a class. although... he is more than willing to set up review sessions before exams which tend to be much more understandable than regular class lecture. the review sessions are key... go to them.
Best teacher I've ever had. Most patient guy I've ever met. He will help you out no matter what. Anything you need he will help you with.
Prof. Adler's class is a lot of fun. He is very down to earth and goes out of his way to help students who are struggling. To do well in this class, you must read the textbook regularly and do the homework. Difficult material, but he makes it easier and more entertaining.
adler is awesome! best teacher i've ever had and i look forward to having him again as many times as i can!
85 is still an A, can't explain things very well, course is easy if you keep up with the hmwk, midterms are hard esp. the mult. choice section..believe it or not...
Nice guy and very willing to help outside of class. You may have to ask him to explain things a couple of times, but really good class. Make sure and keep up on homework and projects.
He's a really good teacher and a nice guy. He's always willing to help. He won't throw any surprises at you on the test. What he says will be on there, that'll be it. To do well on the tests, do the homework and study the problems from it and from the problems you do as a class.
Chapman doesn't have many good things to offer, but Adler is definitely a great prof. He really makes an effort to help you in & out of class, but YOU have ask for help first. ACTG isn't exciting, but Adler makes it fun & easy. I highly recommend him. You'll love the sarcastic humor. Take him!
Adler is awesome. The material can be tough, but you can't avoid that. He's in his office probably 3 hours every day waiting for students to come in asking for help or just going in to talk. Such a character and super nice guy. There is a lot of hw, but it will help. MUST buy the book.
Hank is extremely intelligent and knowlegable. He has absolutely mastered accouting. He is also very quick witted, and does his best to make students understand the material. However, the material is very tough and conceptual. This is one of the hardest classes I have taken. If you do the assigned work and get help, you should do decent.
Very good lectures, very nice guy, but very hard class. The tests (and especially the final) were extremely hard. He'll do his best to help you though. In the end, either you get the material or you don't.
Great guy, bad teacher. His teaching method consists of corporate lecture and professional jargon that is totally unrelated to the book. Tests are difficult and he does not do a good job of preparing you for them.
People that don't like Adler just didnt do the hw. Class has LOTS of hw, but if you keep up with it you'll be set. You know whats going to be on the tests you just gotta study for it. He's always in his office waiting to help. Very approachable. Do homework and you'll do fine.
adler is the coolest teacher ever!!! there's a lot of homework, but it's for your benefit...if you don't get homework you can ask him questions in class and then finish it in class. so if you HAVE to take actg then take it with adler for sure
Professor Adler is one of the best professors at Chapman. He really cares about making his students understand the material. Not only he is a good professor, but a really awesome guy as well.
If you read the book, and pay attention in class, not to bad. Must do the homework or you won't really understand anything
Adler is a great man but like most accountants, not the greatest teacher. He's incredibly helpful in office hours and is also extremely approachable. He loves to teach one way and test in a whole different format! Parts of the class were very unclear and took the entire semester to make sense. Great guy, tough class.
Adler is a great teacher who truly cares about his student’s success. Lots of homework but that just ensures a better grade. Although, the final was very hard and I didn't think we had enough preparation for it. Overall GREAT guy and professor.
Although Adler is an excellent accountant, he is not a good professor. His class is disorganized and confusing. Lectures are incredibly hard to follow. The homework in the text book is very difficult because it is different from the way he teaches in class. His tests are extremely hard. His class was so bad that I ended up withdrawing.
Professor Alder is a good person, but not a good teacher. His lectures do not follow the text and his test are in different formats then the text. This class was very difficult to follow.
nice guy, lectures are hard to follow, he jumps from different topics, and many of the topics dont make any sense, it seemed like some of the class really got it, but most of the class was lost, not to mention the tests were difficult and graded hard, without a curve, he is helpful in office hours, but the subject is very difficult.
Great professor, tough class. He made the class interesting and he's very willing to help you in office hours if you need clarity. One of my favorite Busi Profs because he knows so much about the industry & will totally help you with internships or jobs if you show him you're interested. I absolutely suggest using his office hours & get to know him
cool guy, laid back, tries to make class funny. hard class tho, just cause accounting sucks.. but you have to take it, so take it with him
Tight as heck. Take him!
Professor Adler is not a good teacher for an introductory class. He forgets that his students are just beginning to learn accounting and he has been doing it for 40 years. I did not learn anything from lectures and my tutor from Vietnam could explain concepts better than him. He calls on you every class to answer questions and puts you on the spot.
Adler is very smart in his field and about accounting but does not know how to teach to his students.
Kinda half and half. Accounting is a hard subject, and Hank tries to teach but helps only moderately in helping you understand it. Be sure to do the homework and ask Hank questions during office hours, and you may get a lot out of this class. I don't doubt though that he is the best person to teach this subject, though.
Funny professor, makes class fun, very tough though, make sure you do the homework and study a lot.... also his tests are long and you tend to run out of time.... but still loved the class he is the best teacher because he knows his stuff but pay attentions some students struggle in his class
Agree with what someone said about some easily getting it and some not. For me his teaching worked, and stuff clicked. He was better than the book in the second half of the class. Always ask questions, be proactive if you don't get it. IMO, tests are often much easier than the homework. Definitely has chicken scratch writing.
awesome professor! attending class is a must otherwise you will get extremely lost. Doing the homework helps A LOT with projects and tests. He goes over everything in class and his office hours are SUPER helpful. Hes hilarious in class because he mumbles a lot. He tries to make Actg somewhat exciting.
Awesome professor! If your taking accounting take him! He's hilarious and mumbles a lot which makes it even funnier. Some people get the subject matter and some people don't but he's always free for help at his office hours. attending class is a must otherwise your lost. The book is helpful to. He active in class and he won't have to call on you.
He is an AMAZING professor. If you are taking accounting, take him. I love his class and maybe will switch my major to accounting. But you have to go to class and do the homework to keep up. He is very very helpful and will try his best to make sure you understand. TAKE ADLER he is one of the best professors at Chapman
Hilarious and very helpful. Cares about his students' learning. He WILL call on you, so read the book before class!
Lectures are rambling and often have very little correlation to research projects and/or exam. Memo are very challenging, he gives no guidance and grades them harshly. No study guide, exams often cover difficult subjects that were only briefly mentioned in class. He is not helpful during office hours. For tax you have no other choice.
He is the best teacher I've ever had. He really makes accounting very easy. He is literally always available for office hours, and he teachers concepts so clearly and tells you exactly what will be on the test. I was nervous this class would be difficult, but it's one my easiest ones. Plus, he's HILARIOUS, and made me excited to come to accountin
Let me first say that this is a hard class for most. Whats good is that Adler is the best person around to teach it. He keeps the class light and fairly humorous, but at the same time will call on you and keep everyone involved. If you don't understand, be honest and he will take as much time as needed, and will not redicule you. Very nice guy.
Adler is a great professor! Take him for this class - especially if you are an actg major as he is very well connected. He keeps the class interesting and is very clear about what will be on the tests, there are no surprises and he is a fair grader. To keep up you have to go to class and do the homework, but he keeps class interesting. Great class!
Not a professor for everyone. Was not a fan of his style. He teaches as if you already know the material, and I constantly went into his class feeling intimidated and nervous. Projects are very difficult and tests are even more difficult. Biggest tip: never fall behind on homework or reading.
He calls on you on the spot during lectures. Your lecture notes will be a mess because he writes stuff on the board that you will have a tough time studying for tests because it is scribble. Tests are difficult and in essay format. The final was ridiculous and a majority of it was based on material he said wouldn't be on it. Fun guy to listen to.
He's very easy to talk to and never makes you feel embarrassed, but don't expect structured lectures or powerpoints - he just kind of talks about what he thinks is relevant.
Accounting 210 was a really hard class for me but I went to his office hours on a weekly basis and he was always willing to help and genuinely wanted me to do well. Its a difficult subject, but I think he does a really good job teaching it and offers students help anytime. He's a funny guy too, I didn't mind going to class everyday
Interesting lectures. Your notes will not make sense as his lectures are not structured and what he writes on the board is hard to understand. Tests are essays except final which was calculations and T/F(very difficult). Nice guy
Hank is a renowned professor. He always has open office hours and really wants you to learn the material. If there is an SI leader I highly reccommend going because sometimes his lectures are confusing. I didn't get the grade I wanted because he grades hard but I don't regret taking his class. Projects are long but help you understand concepts.
Awesome professor. Insanely funny and equally as helpful. He is the reason I decided to go into Public Accounting. Attend all classes and do all the homework to the best of your ability. Accounting is difficult but he breaks it down even for the the most quantitatively effort. Put in the effort and take advantage of office hours and SI.
Not going to be an easy A but you will walk out knowing it better than your peers in other professor's classes. An A is totally possible, but you do have to put in the effort. Otherwise he's a funny old guy that tells dad jokes all class.
Professor Adler is one of those professors that really makes you know your stuff in order to get an A in his class. I am a little bit of a rule follower so his lectures seemed a bit unstructured. He has a lot of industry knowledge so he can relate the material to real world situations. Do not take him if you think you can just cram for each test.
Accounting is not a subject that you can just wing it and do well. Professor Adler does a good job of preparing students for later accounting classes. He is funny and engaging as a lecturer. Make sure to allow enough time to get the projects finished. Accounting is not easy.
I like Adler; such a nice guy and easy to talk to. However his style leaves a lot to be desired becuase it is so very unstructured. He throws 100s of slides at you but you only need to memorize 1/5 of them and the hard part is figuring out what you actually need to know for test day. If only he would make a studyguide it would go a very long way.
Adler is absolutely amazing; he usually teaches upper division but I was lucky to be in the only 210 class he teaches per semester! Tests are pretty hard but the BEST thing about the class is that you'll always have an SI, which is so helpful. Adler responds to emails super fast and is always in his office to help you.
Adler really makes financial accounting interesting. He's super sarcastic and funny! He's really clear about what concepts are important for his class and what aren't. He's usually always available for office hours and is really helpful when you're struggling.
Best accounting teacher at Chapman. He's an incredible guy and you should consider yourself lucky if you get his one 210 class per semester. The tests and projects have to be taken seriously or you'll struggle, but he's there for you if you need help. Good guy to know for connections purposes as well.
Adler taught me so much about accounting and I really enjoyed his personality. The tests are SUPER hard, and the projects are VERY VERY VERY hard. But he is always in his office to help and the SI is very nice too! You definitely have to work for your grade and if you want an easy A, this is definitely not the way to go.
I love Professor Adler but I think he expects that you already know a lot about accounting. He explains things clearly and is a great teacher. This is the hardest class I have ever taken but Prof. Adler tries to make it as simple as possible. I always follow along in class & understand but once it gets to the midterms I feel crunched for time.
Everyone recommended I take a class with him, and when I did I understood why. He is a well-respected and powerful man, charismatic, and gets your attention with real life stories and real life wisdom. Would take a class with him any day. You need to read the textbook.
Honestly the best professor I have ever had. He is so inspiring and an all around great person. He is one of the smartest people I know and he teaches topics relevant to the CPA exam. But most importantly he cares about his students. Adler doesn't do this for the money, he does it for a passion. He is such an amazing mentor
love this guy. he's super funny and a great guy overall. throughout the semester, i recommended him all the time to people saying they needed to take ACTG 210. but towards the end i realized, his grading scale is off its rocker. for a mistake, he will give -10 despite its magnitude. this leads to midterm scores, through the 3, to slip QUICKLYYY.
Probably the best accounting professor to take. Sometimes class can be confusing, but attend the SI sessions and go to his office hours for extra help. Be sure to carefully check your tests, he does make mistakes, but he is a really generous grader and curves pretty much everything. Accounting is a pain, but it's much been really fun with Adler.
Accounting itself is an extremely hard subject, but Adler makes it less painful. All tests are graded on a curve, and you know exactly what will be on the tests. You will need to work for your grade in this class, make no mistake. Go to office hours and the SI sessions. His classes are fun, and he is funny and makes the class enjoyable. TAKE HIM!!!
Professor Adler knows his stuff. His class is challenging, but if you pay attention you will understand the exams and memos. There is 3 memos and random people get chosen to present (don't be scared its not bad), he just wants you to explain your case. 2 midterms & 1 final. The multiple choice of his tests are take home, and the written is in class
His memo writing is very challenging but useful. Enjoy!
Professor Adler is an amazing professor and person. He really makes a point to get to know the students and cares about their success. I took him for financial accounting and he made it easier to understand. It is a hard class and you will have to study and do the homework, but if you attend the SI, you will do well. Funny & makes lectures fun.
Hank Adler is beyond inspirational and has a lot of wisdom to give. He has a strong background in Accounting since he was Partner at Deloitte for 35 years. He cares about all of his students's successes and really tries to get to know everyone. He only gives out As and Bs since he wants everyone to do well and succeed. Highly recommend!
Adler is a nice person teaching a bland subject. The class is based on memos, 3 group multiple-choice exams, and 3 short answer exams. The memos are a headache, but get easier as they go. The multiple-choice exams are done out of class and are a team effort, which is great and usually boosts exam scores. The SA exams are alright, use the PPTs.
Such a sweet man but such a hard topic. He is very qualified but most of my class struggled to understand the material. He doesn't answer questions clearly. He is very kind but overall the class was so hard because of the material and his teaching style. There are 3 midterms and 2 projects.
I would give difficulty a 3.5. He is very qualified and has a lot of actg experience, and a super nice man. For my first accounting class, I will say it was a bit challenging, but you will see that with just about anyone. If you show him that you care and that you're trying, you can get the benefit of the doubt. Put in the work and learn a lot!
There are 3 Memos, 2 mid-terms, a final, and participation grade (10%) for his class. The memos are challenging but go to office hours for help and make sure you follow the correct citations. Tests involve a take home MC section and in class free response. Study lecture notes a slides, not so much the book readings (although they help).
Very nice guy and will work with you but it is so hard to take notes in this class because you cannot read his handwriting and he is all over the place. Having not good notes made this class hard. Lots of curves were required because people werent doing well. Accounting is a hard class in general but this was not terrible.
Professor Adler is very kind and has a lot of wisdom. Accounting in general is a difficult class, but he really does his best to explain things. If you pay attention and show up to class you will do fine. He assigns homework every class and it is time-consuming but he is clear on expectations for exams and projects and he is very willing to help.
Office hours are basically every day & he is always willing to help. Class consists of 3 midterms 2 quizzes 2 projects & 1 final. Lectures fast but makes content easy enough to understand. I would recommend going to tutoring & studying a lot b/c its an intense class. Study based on his lectures b/c he disagrees w the textbook a lot. Nicest prof!
He is nice but he is extremely scattered and all over the place my class has zero clue what is going on EVER. I would tell anyone who is going to take this class NEVER to do it with him. I do well in school I get all A's but this man makes it so hard. He calls on you randomly and every time people say I have no clue because he makes zero sense.
He rambles about pointless things. The whole class has no clue what is going on. Everyone is always lost. he never has clear directions. Good accountant but a horrible teacher. Notes on the board are not legible. Cannot do basic math ever. Makes frequent mistakes that confuse everyone. Makes everyone uncomfortable with his sarcasm and cold-calling.
not sure how he has such good ratings on here because the class I am in EVERY SINGLE PERSON is lost and gets so frustrated. It is a joke.
Hank is all over the place during his lectures. He is not tech-savvy and I would prefer not to take him again (unfortunately I have to for another section of tax). The only good thing about this class is the curve.
He is hilarious and cares so much about his students. Sometimes his writing isn't legible and lectures can get a bit confusing, but he is willing to do whatever to help. Ask questions. The curve is also great.
He's all over the place, but cares alot about his students and wants everyone to understand the material. I think he's halarious. sometimes gets distracted with random stories, but i enjoy it. his lectures are fast and can never read anything he writes on the board. ask questions
I wish i took another professor. I taught myself everything, got an A in the class but I didn't learn anything from his lectures since he genuienly just doesn't teach. hes a funny guy and respected since he was a parter at Deloitte but it was not even worth it to go to class since he didn't teach and just told stories about his life
he dives right in and if you've never done accounting before, it's a really overwhelming start to the class. but as the class goes on and you get the hang of it, it gets substantially easier. overall an easy grader and even if his lectures are confusing the SI for the class is incredibly helpful. clear expectations and would take again
He can be a bit confusing/unclear at times, but is willing to clarify if you ask questions. Really helpful during office hours. Content is pretty straightforward, but the textbook is really helpful. 3 midterms, 2 projects, homework often, but doesn't tell you when he'll collect it, a handful of quizzes, and the final.
Awesome professor. His lectures can be kinda confusing but his class has a great vibe and he is so knowledgable. Really cares about you learning and succeeding. Love this class and somehow he makes tax fun
Maybe it's an unpopular opinion, but I actually loved Hank Adler's class. Sure, he can be blunt and to the point, but he answers questions well and is always willing to help. Unlike other accounting professors I've had, his lessons really stuck with me. I'd totally take another class with him despite his very traditional teaching style.
Very engaging lectures, he does cold call but does not expect you to know the answers just to make an effort. Clear grading criteria and always tries to connect course material to real life scenarios current or from his own career. Amazing, my favorite professor
