Dont take this teacher. I took harder math than this and this class is suppose to be easy! Its pretty hard.. She is so unorganized. Do yourself a favor a take a better teacher!
Lectures unclear and boring. Study guides misdirectional. Goes off topic quite often, and doesn't require material she is supposed to. As a result of this, the majority of the class fails the quizzes and tests. STAY AWAY IF POSSIBLE.
Never teaches the material and expects for you to show up and know it. She would rather talk about random nonsense for an hour instead of actually teach.
Lectures are terribly boring. She has to much homework. Textbooks are mandatory but we didn't use it. No retakes! Avoid her class!
Her lectures are on material that is very easy but then when you go home to do the homework the material is way harder and you end up having to teach yourself. She also gives a lot of homework that will take a long time. The study guides are not useful. She doesn't use the text book. doesn't prepare you well for the quizzes or midterm.
I don't recommend signing up for her. She lectures everyday on stuff that's not on the homework. This class is basically you teaching yourself math with very little help. I found myself going to the tutoring center everyday because she did not do a good job explaining the material at all! Save yourself some trouble and find another professor!!!
Hannah is amazing and offers a lot of help. She is very straightforward with her expectations and my class loves her.
Not many of the quizzes or larger tests correlate to study guides or homework. Seems like problems on the quiz are not the sames as those being taught in class. Online homework is a big part of the class, I think 25%, and you are completely on your own for it. Nice person, poor professor.
Does not know how to teach. Do not take her.
This is the best math professor I have ever taken, the textbook is not mandatory because there is an online version. The homework really helps your grade and the tests, she has really good lectures filled with examples that help explain the topic better. She does a great job of answering questions nicely and didn't ever make me feel stupid.
She can be a very good teacher provided you are paying attention the majority of the time.
theres a ton of homework on wamap, a lecture everyday with easy examples that don't line up to her test questions. shes inconsistent on grading and sometimes unclear what shes looking for. stay away from this class if its not necessary or math doesn't come easy to you
As with any math class, there is a lot of homework and papers along with it. She makes class and lectures fun, and gives you a new perspective on common topics. 10/10 would recommend.
Hannah Jackson is a very nice person, she makes sure everyone feels "Safe" in her class. But one big problem is that she needs to learn how to teach. I practically had to teach myself most of the materiel. Her homework and study guides don't help on the test. If you like to experience a lot of stress and suffering TAKE PROFESSOR JACKSON TODAY!!!
Do you hate yourself? Do you want to take an entry level math class that's harder than Calculus II? Do you want to feel constantly stressed and stupid because you are failing MATH111? If you answered yes to any of the questions above, Hannah Jackson is the Prof for you!She will do her absolute best to be as vague AF & not teach you!
She is very clear with how to do the problems and she'll always answer your questions, either after class or during her office hours. Homework's assigned frequently, but it isn't too hard and you can ask her for help. There aren't many quizzes. Textbook is hardly used, but it is useful for quiz study guides and help for problems.
Hannah is great! She is laid-back and approachable. She creates an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and is always willing to take time outside of class to help. She has extensive knowledge of algebra and does a great job teaching through lectures and group worksheets. You have to put in the work, but it's worth it.
my dude if u take hAna Jakson u wont be a hapy camper lmao. sux man. like i uzually dont cry but like dude. Teers man. evrywhere.
Sorry but I really do not respect her as a professor. The whole class was pretty much self-taught, in the tutoring center or online using other resources. There were things on the homework that were often not taught in class and when we were addressing them in class she simply said that we had other resources to figure that out.
I thought she was supposed to teach us? Just don't take the class???
Amazing draw artist bro...
Harsh grader. Study guides are text book table of contents; not helpful. Assigned group class work with minutes after lecture to complete assignment. Could not keep up grading assigned work. Clearly, assigned too much work. Simple concepts in lecture; complex problems in home work and tests. Extra credit opportunities gave little credit points.
She truly means well, but she falls short. Her lectures are boring, tons of homework, and she's very gives very little extra credit. The lectures she gives have nothing to do with the homework she assigns you to do that night. Her quizzes have nothing to do the material covered in class, usually harder and confusing. I felt like I was in whirlwind.
Hannah Jackson is an awful professor. If you are reading this and have signed up for her class next quarter, drop it immediately. It is seriously not worth it. I wasted so much time in this class, learned nothing, and got a B- (I'm a straight A student). I never skipped. Just take a different math class with diff prof, and you'll be wayyy happier!
This professor won't teach you math, she will make you cry and suffer... practically had to teach myself all quarter. Do yourself a huge favor and don't take this wanna be professor.
Hannah opens new perspectives on calculus. Her lectures are fairly easy to follow, however the homework she assigns is her in-class examples on steroids. Calc 2+ would be a great choice to take with her, but I would be afraid to take Calc 1 without some calc knowledge.
This teacher wasn't very good at her job because she never taught us but most of the time gave homework and expected us to learn everything by ourselves over night.
She tests students on things that she does not teach in class. She gives worksheets out about work that you have not learned yet and expects you to learn it on your own.
I've taken a class with Ms. Jackson twice now, and I have loved it. She is very kind, and while she does give an intense amount of homework, she really does want the best for every student. A lot of people claim that she tests on things that she doesn't teach, but in reality if you study and ask her questions outside of class, you can pass.
She's definitely a challenging professor. The work she gives is a lot for people who aren't used to more advanced courses, but I thought it was pretty manageable. She had us figure out a lot on our own using stuff she taught in class, but was always wiling to help during office hours. Also very nice. Tests were really tough though.
Listen, I came into her class from pre-calculus. I understand that many people came into her class from being out of school or math for a while. This is an easy class if you have basic knowledge of algebra and learn well through lectures and examples. I didn't find it difficult, but if you don't have a strong background in math it will be hard.
Pretty much each credit is worth 5 credits of work on its own... signed up for a 5 credit class? Well you gotta do work worth of 25 credits. Don't take unless if you want to endure endless tears and break downs. No extra credit, no late HW / Tests accepted, no laughing, smiling, or staring. The atmosphere is always tense. Don't take class.
good person but NOT a good calc teacher. all her lectures are just a waste of time cause the tests are totally different. doesnt focus more on getting us ready for the exams. just shows nice and easy things in class if the test is going to be have hard n tricky problems. too much homework at higher difficult level and not much help from her part.
Hannah Jackson is a very hard teacher she will never curve the grade even when the class average is around 64-66% by far one of the hardest things i have ever done. the tests are very hard and she grades them roughly. assigned 61 homework problems that are very hard integrals a day before the final. dont take happy camper, take pain & tears
The homework assignments were much more difficult than any problems covered in class and I would often find myself spending 5+ hours on them. The tests cover material not taught in class. She would keep information regarding the tests and any possible curves to herself, she seemed to enjoy having the power to keep us in the dark.
Do Not take her! lectures are a waste of time. Really!Gives lots of homework. I thought that'd be good but its not. Homework takes all your time before an exam day cause its way harder than class and its lots of it. U have no time to study. No good in her office hours either. Wouldn't take her for calc 152 even if she was the only class available.
I think she is the WORST math teacher. You'll learn three times about your knowledge: class, homework, test. What you learned is super easy, the homework is too much, and the test is super hard or super tough. I think she wants to let students feel stressed. Before test, you'll have over thirty homework questions need to finish. DO'T TAKE HER CLASS
I love that when you ask her a question she will not just hand you the answer, she will ask you questions which will allow you to come up with the answer. After you have come up with an answer she will confirm it by telling you whether it is right or wrong.
If you wanna hate your life for 10 weeks go on ahead and take Hannah! HOURS of calculus homework in a college algebra class, HARD tests, and POINTLESS LECTURES. She is by far the WORST professor I have ever experienced. I wouldn't even wish this class on my worst enemy. I wouldn't even take this class if someone paid me honestly. PLEASE DON'T TAKE
She is a good teacher if you already have strong math skills, but if math isn't your strong suit I'd take college algebra with another professor. There is a ton of homework due every 2 days on Knewton, and they always take 1-2 hours for me to complete. Her tests are also very hard, and the final was crazy.
Make sure to bring a pillow to this class for when you lose consciousness from how bored and frustrated you are. I truly dont know how this professor hasnt gotten fired yet. Her class was by far the worst experience in my life. On my way to school everyday Id hope someone would slam into my car so I had an excuse to not go to class. A big NO
Looking for a teacher? You won't find one in this class. Students are meant to teach each other with group handouts. I pay for college classes to be taught, not to teach myself, I could do that at home for free. She is a nice person, but leaves a lot to be desired in the actually teaching department. Don't recomend her as a teacher. Choose another.
I regret taking this class with Hannah Jackson. It blows my mind how she is considered a tenured faculty member. Hannah Jackson is very approachable and friendly, but that doesn't make her the best teacher. Extremely strict grader regardless of circumstance, no makeups, and has even stated she's just too lazy to make retakes. Don't waste your time
I have NEVER received so much homework for a class before, and you get graded on how your binder is organized? This class is ridiculous. She is an EXTREMELY hard grader on tests and on the in class assignments, plus the bonus of no test retakes. Please save your money and never take this class
Mrs. Jackson does give a lot of homework, and I personally don't agree with the mandatory binder organization and study skills crap. But when it comes to teaching the subject matter, she is very good at it. Mrs. Jackson is very helpful outside of class as well, and will be happy to answer questions and discuss the coursework nearly anytime of day.
I am normally a straight-A student. This class was the hardest thing I have ever done. All you do is worksheets. Everyone at your table must put everyone's names at the top of the paper and she randomly selects one group member's paper to grade and everyone in the table group receives the same grade so she has fewer papers to grade. No leniency.
Hannah is great as a person, but she tells you to pay for two online sites and a textbook, I didn't use the textbook at all and only the online assesments. Her class is this 1) Get in and work with a group that doesn't work together and she doesn't teach you what to do prior. 2) do all pre and post assessment 3) she blamed our class for not working
This class was only 10% taught by Hannah. Most of the time we did our packets in groups. You could raise your hand to ask questions, but mostly left on your own to figure out. TONS of papers! I'm an A student, I got a 97 on my stats final! I dropped this class. Topics were only briefly covered. Sweet lady, but a terrible teacher.
This teacher is horrible. She does not teach at all and she does not believe in it. She believes that students teach each other the subjects because somehow that is better. When she does lecture, it does not give us all the details, she just gives us a general idea and everything else you have to learn at home. DON'T TAKE THIS TEACHER!!
Just don't take this professor. Trust me
Everything has to be in her way or else it's wrong. During this covid outbreak with online classes she still grades very harsh and wants it her way even if we've learned/mastered it before this class. I wouldn't recommend this class to anyone because it is not fun and seems like more of a punishment. If you are to take it make sure to do it her way
She seems almost intimidated to lecture so those are rare occurrences. I think she had 3 lectures the whole semester. She'll just throw you a packet she photocopied and have you work with 3 others who are just as lost as you. Hopefully, you get decent group mates for the week or your pretty much on your own. lowest averages ive seen for a class.
The daily homework consists of 4+ assignments, which would be fine if she taught the material. However, she has the figure-it-out-yourself mentality, usually tasking us with completing assignments without prior instruction. Her hours are very strict, so if you want to complete homework on time, you better have a tutor on speed dial.
Awful hour+ lectures over the tiniest things while glossing over more important points. Tests were massive and worth about half your total grade with no retakes. Also 3 assignments per sub chapter of the textbook.
The class had no lectures except a few videos here and there. Put into groups and had to teach one another or we had to self teach the concepts. The beginning of the course is heavy with knewton assignments i spent average 6 hours on one. The class is unrealistic during Covid-19 and she has no empathy for outside issues. Half the class dropped.
Professor Jackson gives more work than any other professor I have ever had. I took three classes this quarter and this class took up 90% of my time. She puts you into groups to figure everything else out on your own, and people don't really talk that much. she will borderline fail you on tests if she doesn't like your notes no matter how clear.
This class is not for part time students. It is a 30 hour a week class. The syllabus calls out needing to do 20 hours of work outside class. Every day of the week has 2-5 assignments due. This is not for people with full time jobs or families. With support doesnt mean additional help with the math, it means extra orientation level assignments.
I took two other courses this quarter but despite this, 90% of the work I did was for this class. The professor just doest teach the material, she throws you into a group and you're supposed to fend for yourself. She was fairly useless and the entire class basically just worked through the textbook on our own in order to make it through the class.
Just don't.
Little to no sleep because of this class. There are 10 quizzes (one each week), and there are two-part to a quiz, written and on Knewton. Didn't pass a SINGLE written portion because I "missed" small details. She said you'll get extra credits if EVERYONE participates in the weekly group assignments, AND solve all the problems CORRECTLY.
She is the worst teacher I have ever had. She gives you so much homework within one week and the quizzes you wont ever get 100% because she grades hard. She can assume that you cheated and you get zeros in every topic. Shes such a passive aggressive person. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR
DO NOT TAKE CLASSES WITH THIS PROFESSOR! If you are writing down the right answer she will assume that u copied over and used external resources If you did solved wrong she immediately will drop your assignment core If she does not like you she will report you DO NOT TAKE CLASSES WITH THIS PROFESSOR, SHE DOES NOT DESERVE TO TEACH PEOPLE
Dont take her class!! She is the worst teacher ever!!! She is very inconsiderate, considering the class is online. Most of the material is not hers and when she does teach its confusing. She makes you explain all your work with english kinda stupid bc last time i checked its a math class not english.
High expectations are fine- but - hard, mandatory group-work where classmate participation is weak, impacting your PERSONAL grade-despite own participation is unacceptable. Grading is WEEKS delayed making it impossible to correct mistakes effectively. There was an 'option' in this area- which meant MORE work in an already intense, demanding course.
I didn't necessarily like this professor at first. It felt like a very hands-off course but the further I got into it the more I saw how willing she was to help. I appreciate her lightheartedness and I give her gratitude for her patience. I've heard rumors about her binder requirements and I believe she has since dropped that standard.
One of the worst professors I’ve ever had. I would get marked down for the SMALLEST things like not explaining why 10•3=30.She also said I cheated on my test. I told her that I didn’t. She wouldn’t grade my test until I came in to retake it. I did and she still reported me. The lectures aren’t even her it’s a different professor.
She doesn't provide notes or lectures and instead only assigns youtube videos for us to watch and learn whatever the topic is. She also accuses people of cheating, requires the purchase of some online math homework site(around $40), but mainly, there's no teaching of the content yet we are graded and expected to learn it to her standard.
This professor is not clear in expectations. She doesnt give examples what/how she wants her students to do the quizzes, but she grades like she already told them everything. In addition, she is stereotype person. If students solve a problem in another efficient way, she will give them less than 50% scores. Never recommend this professor.
I’ll be honest with you, if you get this teacher, RUN. She accused me and several other people of cheating on our final without any proof and refused to change our grades after we were proven innocent. I studied like crazy for the final only to be slapped with a 0 and a call to administration to have a talk about cheating. Not cool Ms.Jackson :(
HORRIBLE! DO NOT TAKE HER. I used to like math, it was one of my favorite subjects, but her class made me hate math. She barely teaches and is such a slow grader. Her explanations aren't clear at all if you need help or in general. This is a class where you have to teach yourself or cheat the whole way through to get a decent grade.
This professor is super challenging and her expectations are high, however her willingness to help me throughout the term made it so I was successful in her class! Because of her grading system getting an A is nearly impossible, but I know I have never learned as much math as I did in her class. She is also very accessible outside of class too!
This teacher has a different grading system that is hard to understand at first, but once you do it makes everything easy.
Professor Jackson does not explain the course material very well if at all. She gives us a packet to work on together without providing clear instructions on how to solve the problems provided. Her office hours are almost always packed, her grading criteria is unclear and completely discretionary, and she doesn't teach the material well if at all.
The class is with support but I didn't feel like I received any support in class. She would just say "go to my office hours" that are 1 hour long and sometimes she is late or needs to leave early. The support is supposed to be one day a week but during those days we had more new material, 1 chapter per day and new material just before the test. 0/5
She's good at explaining concepts and you can tell she loves math. A lot of homework but mostly tests matter. Easy on late work and assignments are mostly completion. Her tests aren't extremely hard, but she grades on mastery, hard to get an A. Even if you get a problem wrong, still get points on how much you understood or how close. Nice lady.
My feelings on Hannah are conflicted. She is a kind person, and it is clear that she cares about her students and what she's teaching them. However, you cannot really tell, because she sadly does not really teach anything, and lets the students struggle with packets to learn. Her grading system in exams makes it wildy hard to get 100% on a problem.
Professor Jackson challenges your mind and I believe that is most beneficial for a college course. This is a class that will make you grow your brain and solve math problems as you learn them. Take this class if you like to challenge yourself. Remain open to the experience of pushing yourself further.
I cannot, in good conscience, recommend Hanna Jackson as a teacher for 3 reasons. 1) Ineffective teaching method. She gets too caught up on proofs. Reading textbook was more useful 9/10 times. 2) Her grading criteria is ambiguous & 3) She says "idk" way too often to be a teacher. I get she wants to develop critical thinking, but this is not the way
No, you won't be able to get through this class by just doing the homework. If you do the assignments, read the textbook, and really think about what you are doing, she will go out of her way to help you. It is annoying when she doesn't answer a direct question, and she explains that if we can answer the questions for ourselves we should.
I expressed to this instructor that I was struggling early on, and her only advice was for me to drop the class. 20+ hours of work outside of class is required, but not sustainable if you have a job or other classes. She will ignore any questions you have in class if you are not the designated "questioner" of that week. Overall a waste of time.
Definitely requires a lot of work, but if you are ready to put in the work so is she. Test corrections are available up until the last week of the quarter and she's always willing to give extra help if you don't understand something.
Even if you get every question on the tests correct and show every step of your work, you can still get a B. After asking about the grading criteria I was told to "refer to the rubrik," which just says "demonstrates master level proficiency." After taking the class, I still don't know what it takes to get 100% credit for a test problem.
Only thing that matters in this class is Mastery (tests) which is 80% of your grade. Ton of homework that holds no value on your grade. Attendance has no effect on your grade. I felt like class was a waste of time. You are in groups of four, she will hand out a packet, and we try to work through new concepts as a group instead of lectures.
She gave so much homework. We had 4 exams online. If you solved a problem slightly different then in the videos she thinks you cheated and reports you. After she accused me cheating the second time I withdrew and still had to be interviewed by the staff to rule out I didn't cheat and she is just an awful person. RUN DO NOT TAKE HER!!!
Her class has felt horrible. Information she gave us felt inconsistent with what she said in the packets vs. said by her, and her exam's grading is super vague and difficult to get full points on. She emphasizes showing understanding for full points, but doesn't go deep into how to show that. Group work during lectures and feels like high school.
DO NOT take Hannah Jackson's math classes!! You will be sorry! She doesn't teach at all. Very ambiguous instructions. You will be teaching yourself as you go along. What this teacher is getting paid for is beyond me. I had to use YouTube to help with the homework and there is A LOT of homework. Hannah is not easily accessible, so good luck!
She is the bottom of the barrel of the math department at Clark. There are many great math instructors here, I would recommend avoiding her if you can. It was tough to learn from her and tests were very difficult. The highest grade in this class was a B. Talk to the math tutors here or anyone that's taken her, and they will say the same thing.
This class is a lot of work, with work and other classes it was hard to keep up. Only reason I was able to pass was cause I went to her office hours
Hannah isn't as bad as people on here are saying. I took her MATH111 online course, and while it is work heavy, all you have to do is keep up with the lessons and homework and you'll be fine. The material is easy to understand and she provides tons of resources for you.
Honestly she's a super nice person. As a teacher though? I've never taken a class I've disliked the system as much as hers. There is no lecture. Just a packet she wants you to work on with a group, with as little help from her a possible. Everything Learned was though youtube. 80% for test, 20% homework which is a crazy grading scale.
Good person, but teaching is non-functional, you'll learn nothing.
TAKE THIS IF YOU WANT TO HATE MATH. Over half the class dropped, WORD SOUP, teacher does nothing but yet gives you a hard time. I'm genuinely surprised the school hasn't gotten a replacement yet, such a valuable subject for today's tech world has turned into the low-point of Clark's math dep. The content is easier than calc, but the professor...
DO NOT TAKE Math from Hannah Jackson. I took a 6 credit class, the first day was told it is an 8 credit class that needed 16-24 hour of out of class work. It actually took more time. This class is a full time job. The grading system is subjective and not intuitive. This is not a growth mind set class. You have to be perfect or you don't pass.
Her only real redeeming factor is that she is polite and always willing to help. The coursework is a lot of self learning, with relatively little help from the professor. I had to correct over 15 quiz questions because they were incorrect. Very unprofessional. The tests are almost impossible to get over a B. Would be surprised if anyone got an A
Hannah is a nice person but this class is horrible. Grading is subjective, you are given packets and expected to teach yourself/group the material you've never seen before. You take 6 tests and even if you get the answer correct, she can mark you wrong because it wasn't to her standard which I didn't know since she never lectured. Failing class.
This class was awful. The grading rubric the professors disgression and when you ask how to answer a question on a test to get full points the answers are vague. If you've taken this class I'd encourage you to file a formal complaint with the school. If you're considering taking this class, don't. This is NOT a supportive class, as it portends.
I did not enjoy taking her math 111 class. She has a unique grading system that will make you hate math. Nobody fully understood the grading system because it relied on subjectivity. I got a B in her class, but then 4.0'd all my calculus classes at the university level. The material is not hard, but she makes it miserable.
Believe the negative reviews. I used to sing Clark Colleges praises before Hanna Jackson. I can no longer recommend Clark to friends. If Clark was being ran as a company this product would be pulled. As a customer of Clark I am not happy. I complained to the student Dean and just got excuses and inaction. Math head was very defensive, not helpful.
I went in aware that the content was hard (as it should), and that the professor would be a challenge (from friends and RMP), but it was the only session and I thought I could plow through myself - I was wrong, teacher wasn't flexible, lectures were half brain rot, isn't open to feedback, grading system is more complex than triple integrals. 0 star
There was a HEAVY amount of weekly homework like practice questions, a note sheet you had to write to describe a concept from every chapter in the book that you read, with thorough descriptions, you had to post it, reply as a discussion post, & correct a peers mistake. & SHE ACTUALLY READS IT, no half @$$ing , & then to top it off a weekly quiz.
Pls run away, she is terrible and has almost no open-door hours, and when you meet with her it's useless. The amount of inline work is just beyond ridiculous the test seem to be nothing like the prep for them.
THE WORST TEACHER. I took her class 2 years ago and I still think about how horrible she was. If you can, please take this class with any other teacher. She wants students to fail, I have no idea why she is still at Clark, even after so many bad reviews, complaints, etc. I also remember how rude she was to a classmate w special needs in my class.
I saw a comment for a class once that said, "if you aren't religious, pick a religion and pray" and I think that sums it up. A little dramatic but also not really. This class was really difficult for no reason. If you struggle with math don't take her.
Midterm was 35% and final was 45% of final grade. Averaged about 3 hrs per day on homework but I took the course in the summer (condensed term).
Good prof, don't know why so many bad ratings. 111 is 8 credit course so its harder. 96 is normal 5 credits and was very easy. She wants you to succeed and if you miss a question on a quiz she'll let you fix it. Only downside is having to work in groups
She does all group work and it is ridiculous. you can not ask your own questions and this is the dumbest class I have ever taken
