She wants students to learn. Gives a good idea og what to study for quizes and exams. She makes the class interesting.
Take her class. She is awesome. She does challenge you but is very fair. You can tell that she loves her job and she puts a lot into it. Very helpful and very clear with her explanaitons. Not a native speaker so she knows a lot of tricks to learning spanish. One of the best proffessors I've ever had.
took it in the summer was not to bad. Was fun she really likes getting into her wedding and is very spanish oriented because she is married with a spanish speaker. She will help you understand and a lot of activities with you classmates in class
Very kind and attentive teacher - explained Spanish from the perspective of a non-native speaker, and nobody was turned away when they needed additional help. Biggest regret is that she's not teaching Spanish 3 this semester.
She's really funny, sweet, and always willing to help you. Her tests aren't very difficult if you attend class everyday, she prepares you well for them. She gives a lot of extra credit oppertunities so an A isn't hard to get if you make the effort.
Echoing what others have said: she is great! Super helpful, her tests aren't hard, she is really understanding. It is great that she isn't a native speaker because she understands how limited our vocab is. Tries to make class fun, even if it can get repetitive.
Hannah is just ADORABLE! She is such a great teacher! Very understanding and ALWAYS willing to help if you have any questions. Classes are so much FUN and tests are not very hard. I am definitely going to take her again in the future. A++++++
I took the 5 week intense spanish course with her and it was very informative. I had a very good experience with her. She is very funny and fun! She is very helpful and will drop your lowest test score. She also likes for everyone in class to interact with eachother. I loved this class.
Prof. Padilla-Barajas is such an asset to Mesa. Her style of teaching is more than you can expect from the level entry in span. Lessons are pretty direct, HW is a + b'cuz it's online. She is so sweet and has a great sense of humor. I wish her schedule correlate w/my span 102 this sem. LOVE HER!
Mrs. Padilla's PowerPoint presentations are disorganized, with distracting block letters and sound effects. The multiple choice tests are fairly straight forward, but her essay topics are overly broad and not relevant to either the PowerPoint presentation or the assigned reading. There are much better teachers out there, especially for online.
GREAT TEACHER...take her for sure!
Profesora Padilla DEFINITELY cares about her students and is really patient with OBVIOUSLY ridiculous questions. She's really helpful and a good teacher. I find it difficult to keep up with a 5 unit language course, but never took Spanish in HS. Prof Padilla is pretty strict about attendance and sticking to the req. curriculum though, so beware!
Hannah is SO NICE! TAKE HER CLASS! Her lectures/power points aren't even boring. They are pretty interactive. Home work is all online(uses Quia). Half page due the class before every test on the country studied that lesson(in ENGLISH sooo easy) and quick print out worksheet due at every test. Lots of EASY POINTS. Work in "pairs" a lot in class.
AAA+++ She is a wonderful teacher and cares very much for the students. Strict on attendence and assignments, and her lectures are fun! Totally recommended!!!
wow! thats all i can say...
Professor Padilla-Barajas is an excellent professor. Her Spanish 101 class is fun and she is an incredibly sweet person who makes learning the language enjoyable. The workload is moderate- I had 15 units (Calc, Psych...) and was working and the work required was not bad at all. Highly recommended (plus she's gorgeous!).
Hannah is a great teacher. She makes the class fun and has great powerpoint presentations to make the connection easier with the language. One thing I have to stress...do the homework and on time. She is a complete stickler in that area..will not accept anything late no matter what your excuse is.

Hannah is awesome. I had the best time in her class. I learned a lot as well. She is a really good teacher. If you pay attention and do all the homework then there is no need to study for the tests. I got an A on all the tests without studying and its all because of how she tought. She is a really nice lady and she is very good looking as wel
She requires a LOT of work but the work is helpful in learning spanish. She cares about the students who try and she grades fairly easily as long as you do the work.
She is an awesome teacher who pays attention to her students. She encourages you to speak spanish in her class especially with other students allowing us to utilize what we had learned and that is important.
She is one of the best spanish teacher at mesa...if you could its a MOST that you take her she explains things perfect, got an A and took her during the summer.
Best Spanish teacher! Do the homework & Extra credit and the tests will be super easy. Shes crystal clear
very helpful and understanding. A great instructor class is not! boring!! Thanks Professora!
Reviews a lot. Not to much homework, but quia is due daily. Will stop what she's doing to make sure everyone is caught up. I wouldn't say it's an easy class, but you'd have to be lazy or retarded to not get a good grade. If you turn in homework and ask questions, it's a fun class.
Professora Hannah is great! She is very nice and teaches very well. She is patient and wants everyone to do well. She does expect you to work for your grade but it isn't hard. She tells you exactly what is on the test. Quia sucks but its not bad. And there are quizzes everyday on the quia homework but they are the exact exercises from quia.
This instructor is great! Even if you have no interest and this is a prerequisite you will enjoy this class. She is very strict when it comes to turning in assignments on time, but if you do the work and ALWAYS come to class then you will do great. Make sure to do the quia and the supersite (extra credit). The daily quizzes come directly from secti
Super great teacher!!!! Native english speaker, so she is super good at teaching (probably because she had to learn the language herself). Knows her stuff. Super nice. Willing to help. Lots of EASY homework to boost your grade
This professor was lousy. she is just the t-a. she favored students in the class. And I think overall her ability to handle disruptive students is poor. I really didn't care to hear about her family life in class. For being an intro class she really grades you like its Spanish 3. I had a lot of problems with her.she mainly just didn't like me.
just like any other span class, lots of class activities-but they're not graded, so you have to have initiative and determiniation to get a decent grade. the class is long and exhausting, but pay attention, study the vocab, predict the pop-quizes and you'll get an A or a B. She's def an interesting professor, not boring at all.she's pretty hot to
I learned more spanish from 3 weeks of Rosetta Stone then I did from 16 miserable weeks sitting in class with profesora Padia.
TAKE HER. SUPER EASY CLASS. As long as you do all the work she asks and do the quia hw which is online hw and quizzes, the easiest A anyone can get, quizzes usually day before exams and very nice prof. Want an easy A, do all the easy busy work and the A is yours.

She is AMAZING!Take her class!
She is definitely not a native Spanish speaker. She does not have full dominion of the Spanish language and makes students pay for that. If you want to actually learn Spanish DONT TAKE HER!!! otherwise you can sit down and listen to endless boring lectures and do it just for the units and grade.
She is by far the best Spanish teacher Ive had.The class is enjoyable with a lot of fun activities.95%of it is taught in spanish...very little english. She really wants you to learn-super passionate about the language/culture.She plays cool music videos so we can get familiar with Spanish artists.
Mrs. Barajas Was not helpful at all. There were many native Spanish speakers in the class and she would pace the class to them. Find anither teacher
Take this class and trust me you will enjoy it!! The teacher is awesome, fun, and very excited about teaching. She cares about her students and she is such a sweetheart. The hw is not hard but you will for sure have to study for the tests and quizes. Totally worth taking this class
She is the one of the best foreign language teachers I've had after studying 4 different languages. She is demanding but clear in her expectations. If you are interested in really learning Spanish, you will love her class. If you want to sit in the back and text, don't bother.
No english is used so if you dont have any type of spanish experiance or backround, your not going to pass. if you miss 3 classes (even if excused) you will be dropped she doesnt like to help you and talks about her family and past entirely too much. horrible teacher, take any other teacher you can. if not GOOD LUCK!!
very helpful teacher. enjoyed class very much. foreign lang. is difficult but hannah does a good job teaching it. extra assignments are good to make up grade if you dont do well on tests. recommend her class.
She is an excellent instructor. Very thorough and has a charming personality. She is a tough grader, especially on essays written in Spanish on the tests. I give her an A+.
Great professor, you will learn a lot from her. She is nice and funny also. Tons of in class activities with partners. 1 outside of class event. Text mandatory, at least the online code for the homework is. As the semester progresses she uses less and less English, I found this helpful. Study a lot though, a lot of spanish to pack into a semester.
She's a great professor! She's the type who keeps up with your grades, keeps you informed, shows you your progress and overall a great teacher- shows a lot of interest in the subject and to her class.
Professor Padilla is a great teacher. I wish more teachers exemplified her type of integrity and empathy. She’s passionate about building bonds with her students and teaching them Spanish. I believe her to be one of the best Spanish professors at San Diego Mesa College.
Professor Padilla is beyond amazing, she is dedicated to helping you succeed if you are willing to put in the time and effort (it is a 5 unit class). I love her teaching style so much I am planning on taking her Spanish 102 course. If you get the opportunity, definitely take her course!
This professor is very good at teaching. However, it is a 5 credit course so you have to study a lot to get an A, like for any new language. However, it is not impossible to get an A. I have a severe learning disability and still got an A.
One of my favorite professors and classes during my couple years at Mesa. Great teacher, learned a lot and became more interested in continuing learning spanish. She reminds me of a standup comedian when she makes jokes, enjoyed how she incorporated some personal experiences into her teaching. Wish I could have taken her for 102.
Okay for the record, she is not hot. She is a stickler for attendance and will not hesitate to drop/lower your grade. If you're looking for an excused absences, good luck friend. ABSOLUTELY no late homework will be accepted. What I can say is that her class was a little laid back and her tests were easy. An index cheat sheet is allowed on tests.
Profesora Padilla is the sweetest ever! Very strict but also gives amazing feedback. She cares a lot about participation in class but it honestly isn't hard at all! lots of textbook activities but benefits you and helps you learn the language a lot faster! Picky grader so be very punctual when testing. Just show up, do the homework and try! Easy
I loved Professor Padilla's class. She cares about her students and she has a great personality. I was never bored in her class.
THIS CLASS IS EASY, especially if you already have a basic knowledge of Spanish. There are test corrections, cultural activities, a ton of extra credit opportunities, etc. She's so sweet and helpful; she really wants you to succeed.
HORRIBLE professor. Biggest mistake was pacing the class to native speakers, totally leaving behind beginners. IT'S 101! When I asked for help, she asked if I had a learning disability. I received a full scholarship to UCSD the next semester. So discouraging to learn a language like this. AVOID if a true beginner.
Such a wonderful Spanish professor. Made me fall in love with Spanish! She's clear and concise, and teaches everything thoroughly and thoughtfully. Has wonderful anecdotes about her life that coincide with the lectures, and she is hilarious! You can really tell she is truly passionate about helping every single person. Wish she taught Spanish 102!
Prof is nice but STRICT. Micromanager in grading e.g. if you don't add a (.) at end of answer, or if penmanship is off (e's look like c's) you will not succeed. She is a Literary Eng major, be prepared for grammatical rigor. Students who got A's had solid Spanish background. I do not recommend for beginner or if you are learning Spanish for fun.
Prepare yourself to be graded on everything but spanish. Penmanship is her real passion she could careless about your spanish comprehension. There are better options please take them let me be your scape goat.
One of the best teachers Ive ever had! Shes so funny and caring. We used a textbook with online homework and the homework/textbook helps a lot if youre havung trouble understanding. Not a hard class. Shes the best.
She is amazing!! You wont regret taking her class. Although there is homework after every class, its online and it is pretty easy if you have the textbook which is mandatory. She also offers extra credit! If you are looking to learn a new language I highly recommend her!!
Great teacher, has a lot of great in class activities. One of the class assignments is to go watch a spanish film. She really makes the class enjoyable and fun. There is homework due everyday and she is a tough grader but she really wants you to learn the material. Very easy teacher to talk to, she really cares about her students.
Profesora Padilla-Barajas is great at what she does! She not only loves her job, but she truly cares about her students. She is strict on grading, but this is college, not high school. We use our book everyday and homework is due online before each class. The in class games are a fun way to learn the material! I will be taking her for 102!
She is by far one of my favorites. She loves Spanish and wants everyone in the class to succeed and further their language experiences. I really loved her class! She included games and activities to make her class fun. Also, she gives us a background of her experience and its so interesting! She's the best, TAKE HER CLASS!
Hannah is awesome! I still stay in touch with her to this day she is so caring. Show that you care about the material and she notices and appreciates it. She uses what is best from the book and makes class more fun. There is in class participation which is great for learning a new language! She is an example to her colleagues.
She's nice & sweet, but teaches at a level higher than the class level. You can tell she loves speaking Spanish so she speaks at a speed that the Spanish speakers in the class understand, not the speed the students that are actually there to learn Spanish can understand. A good teacher makes sure everyone understands, not just the top students.
She is really passionate about her job and her students. Learning a new language is hard and it wont be an easy A. She allows a note card for exams. If you put in just a little effort and are good at memorizing you'll be ok. She is a stickler for punctuation and penmanship. Overall, a decent class.
Best teacher at Mesa! Professor Padilla is very passionate for spanish and she knows that learning a language is hard, she allows half of a notecard on exams and about 3 points back for test corrections. Homework is online which pretty simple once you get the hang of it. She makes Spanish fun and inviting, definitely taking her next semster!
I highly recommend her! She makes it a lot easier and she's such a sweet person. Although if you're learning Spanish for the first time it ma be hard but you'll catch on and if not she offers extra credit for going to tutoring, its a WIN WIN! There is a project outside of class but its not bad at all! Stop searching and take her class!
She is AMAZING, I have taken her for 2 semesters now, for span 101& 102, her guidelines are very clear, she gives you many opportunities to succeed, and she is just overall a good and caring person. She gives extra credit opportunities on every exam aside from the last one. Be sure to write LEGIBLY on exams so you don't get marked down for it.
She was not bad, but not great either. She gave me lined marks on my tests, indicating I did something wrong, that I have no idea what they meant. She didnt give clear feedback on the tests. The homework taught you and not her. I wouldve gotten an A if it hadnt been for participation points. Absences don't cover your participation points.
Absolutely LOVE her! If you're thinking about taking a Spanish class, TAKE HER!! She's probably the best professor at Mesa that I've taken so far. She really cares about your work and gives good feedback on where you are in the class. She's super funny and has the best personality! Would highly recommend taking her.
Phenomenal professor , Really great person. Fun class. She makes Spanish very fun and engaging. The learning environment is awesome. But do study because your grade will reflect. She cares about her students so wants you to pass! Highly recommend her.
She is the best of the best! Professor Padilla really made class exciting to go to, i actually looked forward to going to her class. She is so much fun and really cares about students. Homework is so important to do and participation makes you a better learner. Tests are every two weeks and extra credit is provided for test corrections.
If you know spanish and just need credit then take her. Seriously makes me reconsider career paths by witnessing how little she does for a "career". Flip classroom so you teach yourself at home then in class you work in groups and teach each other then. Honestly didnt know you could get away with being a prof by doing nothing. I salute her.
I bombed this class. First semester back to school in years and had to relearn what I could manage and how to appropriate time. My grade was entirely my fault though and just want to say Padilla is amazing. Enjoyed the class and despite doing poorly always felt respected. Make sure to keep up with homework!
Professor Padilla- Is such an incredible teacher! I'm one of those students who struggled with learning a new language and it was difficult for me but I went to her office hours and she was so understanding that I was struggling and she was there to help me and explain things in a way that I could understand. She is a real gem!
Professora Padilla is one of the most thoughtful professors I have ever had. This class is HARD, but it is a 5 unit class and a foreign language. Keep up on the homework, GO TO CLASS (attendance is worth a decent chunk of your grade), and before tests go to the tutoring center. She is very VERY caring.
Profesora Padilla Barrajas is my favorite professor of all time. She is the MOST caring person who has ever taught me. She is very thorough, and always wants to make sure you feel comfortable and you understand the content of the class. She is extremely kind and accessible, she even brings snacks to class in case you are hungry.
She really cares for student's success! Great personality, and passionate about teaching! I miss her class so much but time doesn't permit for me to take more of her classes! She quizzes / tests and very clear on her grading scale. If you're not coming to class, beware of missing out! Take her for Spanish 101! Her assignments are fun! 10/10 :D
She is great, and really cares about students. Works very hard and makes classes so interesting. And she arranges everything well even it changes to an online class. Since it's a five-point class, put efforts and you will get good grade.
I recommend this class for non-Spanish speakers especially. While she can be strict, she does so to prepare you well. Tests count for most of the grade but there's review sessions and extra credit for tutoring/ test corrections. Homework is simple. Overall, you have to work for your grade but if you study and participate, you'll be fine.
Shes super nice and you could tell she cares a lot about her students. Her lectures arent boring, you mainly just play Spanish related games in break out sessions. Her tests are mostly multiples choice. Good amount of homework but its pretty easy. Great teacher, highly
Profe is super friendly, funny, & helpful. Attendance is part of your grade so show up & participate. HW is pretty regular (my-lab + writing/reading in weekly modules) - definitely not TONS but what you would expect. Final oral presentation (completely memorized) and in-class written exam, mult-choice on canvas. Put in effort & you will be fine!
I took this class during the pandemic so this might just be due to the pandemic. She goes waaaaay over board on the amount of work for a 5 unit course. She is very excited about her breakout rooms this wasn't bad but she often prioritized them over answering questions of student who may be struggling.
Amazing Spanish teacher!! I loved this class, and I learned a lot. Like every class, you definitely have to put in the work and spend time outside of class preparing. The syllabus was very clear on the work we had to put in. I would definitely take this class again.
Best Spanish professor I have ever taken! I feel like she taught me better than in any in person class. She was so caring and supportive of us speaking and she heavily emphasized communicating in Spanish even in breakout rooms. She is so energetic and full of compassion. Love you!
shes SUPER nice and caring. she really cares about her students. there is a lot of homework but she does tell us about it in the syllabus in the first week so it wasnt really a surprise. GO TO CLASS!! participation points can either boost up your grade or be the reason why you get an unsatisfactory grade.
Profesora Padilla-Barajas is the sweetest, kindest teacher I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. She really makes an effort to let her students know that she cares and that she is rooting for you! She is so upbeat all the time no matter what is going on in her life. I have taken two classes with her and have loved both.
Amazing, insightful profesor who always incorporates plenty of fun activities into class. Lots of assignments, but you have to expect it for a 5 unit course. I recommend taking 202 - my favorite so far!
She assigns a heavy amount of work and gives hardly any feedback on assignments and how they should be completed. Strict policies and repetitive classes and content.
Had to drop. She is definitely over critical. She applies the flip classroom procedure where you basically have to teach yourself and then get penalized for not knowing everything perfectly. WAY TOO MUCH WORK. We do so many "breakout rooms".Mostly, myself and my group mates were lost or just guessing. She's nice but be prepared to teach yourself.
She has lots of fun different activities during class to engage and help learn. There are a lot of activities in the online textbook, but they do not take a lot of time to complete. She clearly puts a lot of work into providing students resources for studying and the cultural project. She cares and wants to help you succeed.
Profesora Barajas is among the best professors I've ever taken at mesa. She goes above and beyond for her students and is constantly looking for ways to improve the classroom experience. I couldn't recommend her highly enough. Gracias profesora!
This course is extremely heavy and requires a large amount of homework to be completed every week!! This class also uses Pearson ( as its main source for homework) and there are constant technological problems between canvas and this site. I would not recommend this course.
By far, the most work-intensive Spanish professor. Three major projects and five essays. Assignments and essays are locked (you cannot see contents) until a week before due date. Projects are given one to two weeks to complete.
Credit for participation is full, half or no credit. I was accused of not having my camera on after the second class and was given half credit. I did have my camera on & I was never warned about not having it on. I feel like a warning should be given before credit is taken off. She just made up reasons to take off points which I feel is dishonest.
I wished this SPAN102 course could have been more focused on in-class learning as opposed to the "flipped" classroom style. I believe that maybe if the course textbook had been more helpful-- which in my mind, it very much was not--then the flipped classroom method would have functioned more efficiently. To me, the course structure is the problem.
I though Hannah was great. I enjoyed her classes immensely. Im not a fan of the whole flipped classroom thing but it is what it is. I live in Baja and so the homework was relatively easy for me but some people thought it was a lot of work. Her tests are graded fairly and I feel she gives a good understanding of the material.
Be prepared to embrace culture and diversity! I recommend keeping your quizlet open throughout the semester, as it will be your best tool for success in this class. I highly recommend this course to anyone looking to build confidence in reading, listening, writing, and speaking Spanish. I absolutely loved my class!
Professor Barajas is an energetic and caring teacher. The class has a lot of work, but engaging with the material and using resources like unstuckstudy can help you succeed. Definitely worth taking if you're looking to learn Spanish.
