Hanni is super nice and helpful--definately enroll in her class
Hanni is a great professor. She teaches well and is very understandable and willing to help at all hours. Definitely get her for lbs 118

She's awesome!
She's great for people who've never taken calculus before...she teaches it as though this is ur first time. So if u already know it, this class will be a great review
Hanni is awesome! Always willing to help even at 2am. If you're in Briggs and have to take calc. get Hanni
A very helpful teacher. She was one of the best instructors I have ever had. A sweet lady.
Hanni is a saving grace!
Hanni is wonderful. Always helpful and makes calculus simple. Take LB 118 or LB 119 with Hanni if you're in Briggs.
If you can get into LB Calc instead of the university math not only is it right downstairs (if you are a LB student) but it is in my opinion easier...as long as you have Hanni Nichols, attend class, and take notes of course:)
Hanni is the best teacher on this campus, literally!!!!! Easiest 4.0 and most enjoyable math class you will ever take in your life. She isn't a blow off teacher, but really funny and unlike every other teacher on this campus she actually cares about her students. Since Lyman Briggs students mostly live in Holmes when they take Calc1 take HER!!!!
The MOST helpful teacher, she always makes time for her students. She teaches calc the way it should be, she taught what we needed to know and no surprises were on her exams, her teaching methods are complete and get to the point. Even if your a bad math student, choose her
One of the best Briggs professors. She is at Holmes all the time and is there to help her students. She is kind, understanding, and can teach Calculus to anyone. I would strongly suggest to get in her section.
Wonderful teacher! One of the best I've ever had. Always willing to help a student and accommodate her schedule if need be. Made class fun!
Awesome teacher, makes me feel like I'm still learning in a high school style. Did not have her for LB118 and am doing better now even though calc 2 is supposedly harder, she makes it easy.
She was the best teacher I ever had at MSU. She makes calc 2 easy to learn. I didn't do any of the homework or take notes, I only studied one night before each exam and got a 4.0. As long as you go to class that's not even mandatory you will do well.
Hanni is spectacular! She teaches Calc the way it should be taught, and she makes class enjoyable. She always prepares hers students exceptionally well for the exams and quizzes. She rocks!
She was a great instructor, she was there when I needed help. She doesn't mind standing after class to help. Her lectures were clear and always taught things two ways. She doesn't mind answering questions during class. She like students to participate
Hanni is always there for you, she spends so much time in her office and is always willing to help. Didn't take attendance, but the material was difficult enough that you needed to be there. Funny and easy to follow in lectures, and takes questions. Best Lyman Briggs professor I've had
Really Good teacher. Willing to help as long as you put the effort into it. Makes the lectures interesting for a class on economics which can tend to be boring.
I only took pre calculus and AP statistics in high school. If you think you need to take AP calc before you take this class, YOU DONT!. Hanni is super helpful and she always stays extra hours in her office to help her students. She is not a professor that wants to trick you either. Her lectures are informing and her exams are straight forward.
Hanni is the best teacher I have had at MSU. Makes multiple practice exams for each test that are near identical to the exams. The homework is recommended and attendance is optional to lecture, but you will do *much* better in the class if you do the homework and come to class. Hanni is very kind and helpful.
Hanni is absolutely my favorite professor during my first year in Lyman Briggs!!! Her exams are practically the same as her practice exams and if you took AP Calc in high school, that background knowledge will help you pass with flying colors. However, beware that if you would like to move forward to calc 3 & 4, taking Hanni isn't the best optional
Hanni is one of my all-time favorite math professors. She made Calc II a breeze, something I thought would never be possible coming in with an AP credit from a class taken a few years ago. There are weekly quizzes in recitation and the exams are very similar to the practice exams. If you need to take upper level Calc, though, look for someone else.
Amazing professor! Easy class!
There's a reason Hanni is one of the highest rated profs at MSU. I've had her for LB118 and 119 and I can honestly say I've never learned math in a more meaningful, lasting way. Hanni gives you every opportunity to succeed and is incredibly brilliant at teaching calculus in the best way for you to understand it.
Best professor ever! I have her class along with the online course and I don't think I would be able to pass with out her! She's very detailed in what you need to know for tests, quizes, everything! You can tell she cares about her students and wether they fail or pass.
Really easy class! She makes everything super clear and takes her time going over concepts. Great professor and would definitely take her again!
Going to class and doing your online work is really all that matters to get you good grades.
Cares about her students passing and doing well, its really easy to pass but only if you do your work.
Great teacher, she tops any prof I've ever had. She taught me calc 2 so well that I plan to LA for this course next semester. She's basically the cat lady mom that's amazing at math that you've never had.
Hanni is such a beautiful and wonderful human being. She works really hard to make sure that ALL of her students understand the material. Math 103 is only difficult once you get to the end of the semester because who likes rational functions? However, Hanni has done an AMAZING job helping me understand them. Highly recommend her, she's a gem. <3
Hanni is really sweet, you can ask for almost anything and she will not get mad at you (I emailed her the night before an exam to move my test time and she let me do so, though I do not recommend trying this). If you have to take a calculus of any kind, she's great at having tons of office hours and always takes questions in lecture.
Hanni is by far the best professor I have ever had. She is a night owl and so she stays up super late into the night and will answer your questions without hesitation. 100% will be trying to get her for my other math classes.
She's the best
She is VERY nice. Her lectures are easy to understand because she simplifies the material. If you want a more theory-driven/rigorous approach to Calculus, read the online textbook as well. I wish that she explained some of the why's of calculus since it would make the material more intuitive. Her exams are really easy and lenient!
TAKE HER CLASS
Where do I even start?!?!? Hanni is the best prof to ever step foot on the MSU campus! She is always willing to answer any questions, and she is super accessible. She stays up pretty late so when your late night studying she is almost always available. She also has a passion for math which makes it a whole lot easier to understand. TAKE HANNI!!!!
THE BEST PROFESSOR AT MSU! She makes everything understandable and easy to grasp. I have never taken a Calculus class before taking this class. I felt super prepared for exams because she is super helpful and is really good at explaining concepts (even if you've never seen the content before). She genuinely wants her students to be successful.
BEST teacher ever she has office hours right after class, her practice exams r JUST like the real exam, and SUPER nice so she accompanies students (ex: did not hold class day before thanksgiving) would HIGHLY recommend getting and if u r good at math u prob dont even need to attend but I would recommend it
Hanni is so chill. BEST teacher I have ever had. absolutely amazing. she is VERY good at explaining math skills, and is always willing to teach you 1 on 1 any time outside of lecture
It's impossible to dislike a class Hanni teaches. She is SO accessible outside of class. She is the sweetest, most caring teacher I've ever had. She is very flexible when it comes to making up tests/assignments (assuming you actually have a good reason to). She is so thorough when she teaches, too! Essentially, Hanni is an absolute gem.
Probably the best instructor I have ever had in my life. Understanding of students' schedules and willing to make sure students understand material. Outstanding
Great prof
Hanni was an amazing prof! She really cares about her students and is extremely open and welcoming. Her lectures were always great and I always left class feeling extremely prepared and never confused.
Hanni is a wonderful person and even better professor. She is clear about what you are required to know for tests, quizzes, and what is likely to be a common concept in future math courses. She's easy to access almost 24/7 outside of class, and has simple lectures that make even difficult concepts seem easy. She is the best math teacher I have had.
Hanni is an awesome math professor. She connects with her students to help them understand all the topics.
Hanni is probably the best professor I've had, she is really attentive and accessible, and very willing to help and answer questions. Her study sessions are a really great resource so definitely go!
She's just great
She was really good at explaining the material and was very organized and friendly
As long as you do all of the homework online and attend her lectures you will do great. She has no issue helping with homework and adjusting due dates if necessary. Very understanding and puts her students first to ensure everyone is understanding the material and will easily pass.
Wants to make sure all of her students are understanding the material being given. She is very lenient with due dates and when to give exams. She listens to what her students have to say and will move exams or assignments around if other classes have assignments/exams the same week (such as LB171/LB172).
Best math teacher ever. You can tell she cares about her students and is passionate about teaching. Would 10/10 recommend taking any math course with Hanni.
I LOVED having Hanni. She truly cares about her students and is always available, even on Facebook messenger to answer questions! Homework score automatically gets curved at the end of the semester. She makes note packets for each lecture and its incredibly easy to follow. Tests are not meant to trick you. She genuinely cares about you learning.
Hanni is awesome! A great professor
I took calc 1 in high school and didn't do great, so naturally I was paranoid about taking calc 2 right away in college. However, Professor Nichols is great at teaching and super easy to get ahold of if you have questions. I had her fall 2020 (entirely online) and the class was asynchronous, all I had to do was watch lectures and do the homework.
Her lectures and guided notes were very helpful, and you definitely need to pay attention to them as well as her example problems for the quizzes. Over all she was very good.
Hanni deserves the hype. Her class felt like I was meant to really learn the material. No office hours and an asynchronous class, but she was always available over Facebook messenger and text. The material was hard, but then again I'm not a math person. Lots of recorded lectures, but that just means you can pause them to take notes.
Dr. Nichols is the sweetest professor I have ever had. I took her course online and she made it as simple as possible. The class process was extremely easy to follow. She is always available to message and get help from. She communicates with her students and helps them to succeed. I was so happy I got to have her for another class.
She's the best professor I've ever had. She's so caring and understanding. Take her classes! I started with her when I was a freshman and I've tried to get every math class with her.
Hanni is genuinely the best instructor I've had at MSU. She's always willing to help with any problems you have, holds great study sessions before exams, and makes the content, which is just numbers on paper, very engaging. I wish she could teach all of my classes.
Hanni is a great professor. I had her fully online and asynchronous and her recorded lectures were still great. She does her best to make sure her content is understandable while still being engaging. She also always available via messenger or text and is super sweet. She is a great professor and makes calculus more manageable.
Going into calculus I was very nervous, thank god I had Hanni as a professor! She cares about her students & wants them to succeed. She is the easiest professor to contact outside of class. She prefers that you FB message her and she responds so quick!! Calculus is tough but if you watch her lectures and do the homework you will be just fine!
This class was asynchronous with recorded online lectures, but her lecture style is very good. She gives students her personal phone number to asks questions. Not a hard class content wise, but most grades come from quizzes/final exam. I recommend Hanni.
This is my third class that I have taken with Hanni and every time she does so well. Her lectures are great, and she does her best to break everything down. Even in calc 2, which is not easy, she explained the concepts very well and made it understandable.
I loved her. I wish I could have her for every math class. She is so caring and willing to give extensions without hesitation. As long as you watch all her lectures, take notes, and go to recitations if you need help, you will do great in her class. If you can get a class with Hanni, choose her over any other prof. shes the best
I found this class to be very easy. As long as you attend class, complete the homework and study for quizzes, you will have no problem getting a 4.0. I will add though that she teaches a little slow and it can be very boring.
Nichols was one of the most caring professors I've had in awhile. I was out with mono for 3 weeks and she bumped my grade slightly. Homework is online, you do have to pay for it (between $100-$150) this got you access to an online textbook and the required homework assignments. Quizzes every other week, records all her lectures.
She is a little slow in lectures, but when you don't understand a concept this is perfect. She is always available to help you out and cares about her students. She also reminds you of homework and quiz due dates often. Quizzes were online, but not proctored at all.
She provides guided notes and goes over them in lecture. Lectures are a little slow. She is extremely patient, caring, and accessible. She gives you her phone number and you can contact her anytime. Quizzes are every other week and are similar or easier than the homework.
Had fill-in notes for every single lecture and recordings were posted if you couldn't make it. Online homework is an important and big part of grade! She's super accessible outside of class and very nice too! Quizzes are Bi-weekly, with no big tests. Only dislike from me was that she canceled a lot of classes and resorted to just posting lectures.
I am so glad that I took this class with Hanni because she explains Calculus in such a great way. Her teaching style is so patient and thorough that it is difficult to NOT understand. She uses good websites for assignments and the class is well organized. I have been notoriously bad at math and she has made me more confident in my math ability.
Final is worth 30% of your grade, so make sure you know at least a little calc. If you get 100% on everything else with maybe 90% in the exams category, you need to score like a 75% on the final to 4.0
Hanni is very good at explaining all concepts and showing you examples on how to apply those concepts. Even if you don't get it at first she makes it clear that you can ask her for help at anytime and should not be afraid to ask for help.
Took her class online and attended in-person recitation with teaching assistants. Quizzes are pretty often, and her recorded lectures are helpful but she tends to talk slower than I prefer, so I speed them up. Very kind though
Hanni is an amazing professor, my class was fully online but she was always available and ready to help via text or email. Her posted lectures are easy to follow and I love that you can watch whenever. The mock quizzes are just like the real ones and you can use piazza to ask for classmate help on homework. I would strongly recommend her to anyone.
Hanni is the sweetest professor you can take. The lectures are easy to understand and i always felt prepared for the quizzes. She gives you her phone number in the syllabus and responds super quick. This class was online synchronous, but the final was in person which was weird since everything else was online.
I have taken Hanni for 3 previous calc classes and she has been amazing each time. Her lectures are so helpful and the quizzes reflect the homework/lecture material! She is always reachable via text for questions. She makes many sweet accommodations for extensions as well. As someone who's weakness is math, if you want to pass calculus, take Hanni!
This is an online course, but you still learn so much! Attendance is only once a week for recitation with your ULA, this is just a time to work on homework or practice quizzes. Lectures are posted online that you can watch and homework is also done online. Hanni is so understanding and caring! If you have the class please take this class with her!
One of the best professors! Attendance is only once a week for recitation with your ULA, this is just a time to work on homework or practice quizzes. Quizzes are every other week. Lectures are posted online that you can watch and homework is also done online. Hanni is so understanding and caring!
Hanni is the best. Please take this class or any other math class she has to offer. Her lectures are amazing and you watch the lectures at your own pace (you can slow them down/speed up). Lots of homework assignments but they are easy if you understand what is going on. Do your work and you will 4.0. Hanni is a night owl and answers very quickly.
Hannu teaches all online classes, with once-a-week recitations taught by TAs. All homework and tests were online. She is very accessible outside of class if not by you then by her TAs.
She was a great professor and explained everything very clearly. The class is online asynchronous but it was still easy to communicate with Hanni if necessary
Pretty easy online course. Just keep up with the lecture videos and the homework and it's easy to follow. Prof Nichols is very understanding and has her students text her so she gets back quickly. Make sure to do the Piazza, that's what I got points off for. Quizzes every other Friday but they're not bad. I would definitely recommend this class.
She is a wonderful lecturer, and all the quizzes are online pdf, something that you have the whole day to do. However, the exam is 30 questions in the same format as the quizzes(so a pdf), but you have 2 hours to do it which is a time crunch. But either way this class you can definitely 4.0 in!
Dr. Nichols online class was very nice. I was nervous about taking an online course, but she very clearly outlined what was expected and how to succeed in the class. The online lectures were extremely helpful, especially with handouts. There were bi-weekly quizzes that you could use your notes on, and she graded quizzes pretty fast.
I took both LB 117 and LB 118 with Hanni since I liked her so much as a professor. 118 was harder since it was Calc but Hanni made it easy enough to understand. The class has a lot of quizzes which can be hard and take a while to get graded but other than that the class was enjoyable.
The kindest professor ever. I ULA'd for her for a year and she was the best.
Rest in peace, Dr. Nichols. You were an amazing person.
Rest in peace, Hanni.
