I loved this class, one of my favorite professors. He made it clear that he isn't a hard grader. Every time I would worry about my grades he would do everything in his power to reassure me and make me feel confident in the material we are learning. Coming in have took pre-cal and AP Calc AB in high school which was very manageable. Took honors.

He is an interesting character, he clearly cares about his students and teaching math well BUT he goes off topic a lot like how he wishes he did biochem in college (cool but unrelated to waste a whole lecture on topics in science). I usually do well if the teacher teaches well, but I'm doing average since I would say his teaching is overall average

It is hard to stay ontop of work, especially when there are times that he does not finish a lecture (or even start one tbh) due to getting sidetracked and talking about other things. There is no extra credit and exams are very hard. It is unfortunate, but I would reccomend any other professor.

The most important thing to know about Professor Johnston is he gets sidetracked VERY easily, meaning some classes you won't learn anything. I took Calc AB in high school so his tangents weren't a problem for me because I knew most of the material in the class already, but I can imagine this was very frustrating for anyone who hadn't taken AP calc.
