Professor Otto was great. His lectures were easy to engage in and his added humor about his love for bats was hilarious. No textbook required and grade consisted of 2 mid terms and a final.

He is fantastic. He holds a review the class before a test and that will give all you need to know. He is very nice, and funny, and loves bats! Be prepared for some animal planet clips.

Hans is a great professor. His class is very easy. Your grade is just composed of 3 exams and 1 final. No homework or quizzes and no participation required. Everything you need to know he will talk about in his lectures or reviews! Highly recommend for intro to ecology.

My favorite professor this semester! Otto's lectures are super engaging, he's funny and clearly enjoys his field, which makes you as a student want to be there for class. He posts all the same slides from lecture online so if you miss class no worries, it's all there to review. 3 exams and a final, if you go to SI and STUDY, you'll be fine!

He's reaaaallly chill and funny. Attendance is not necessary at all because he posts slide lectures, but its better to come to class because his slides are not that specific. Exams are really easy :)

Dr. Otto is amazing! He is a chill prof and really funny! His lectures can get boring but he plays videos during lectures that can be really interesting. This was my very first lecture taken as a freshman, and I am really glad it was. The class size is very big, however he made all the lectures very engaging and interesting to learn. If I failed I definitely wouldn't mind taking his class again.

The grade is only composed of 3 midterms and 1 final. During my semester and one midterm, there was an issue with not printing out enough midterm copies so he gave everyone a 100. However, the midterms can be very tricky and wordy. The midterm 3's class-average was a 66%. Very low for a 100-level course like this. The first midterm was fairly easy.

This class was fun and interesting. Hans is a great professor who cares that you learn. The tests are difficult if you don't study, but if you pay attention in lecture and study you should do well.

The first time I took Ecol 182R with another professor and didn't pass the class. I retook the course online over summer with this professor and it was the EASIEST thing I've ever done in my life. I highly recommend taking this course online with him because you only take 5 quizzes and a final. You can have all PP slides open as you take a quiz.

I took this class online in a seven-week course. It was super easy! I was only graded on 5 quizzes, 5 discussion posts and 1 final exam. Finished it all in one weekend. His powerpoint contain all the answers. I've heard he's the best teacher in person too for ecology but I took it online due to timing issues. He's a fast replier to emails too!

Finished all the work for this semester-long class in the first 7 weeks. 5 quizzes + 1 final exam. The final is worth ALL of the points, basically decides your grade, which is a little nerve-racking, but just take thorough notes from lectures+copy down the questions and answers from the first 5 quizzes and the whole class is SO easy and enjoyable.

Very easy class, no text book required, all lecture is online, open note/text during quizzes/exam, no discussion post or any other assignment. Everything is self pace, so if you want to finish this online class in a week or so, you totally can! I heard one student finished this class in a day. (Everything is on quizlet also.)

Online class is self-paced w/ 5 quizzes, 15pt each and 1 final, 200pts. Each quiz is based on a module that consists of VoiceThread lectures w/ corresponding PowerPoints; final is cumulative. VoiceThreads are interesting and PowerPoints are structured in a way that is not overbearing.

I took this class online and it was very easy. It consisted of like 5 quizzes and a final. All of the answers are in the lecture slides, and If you google them you can sometimes find answers on quizlet. This class is done at your own pace and I was able to complete the whole course in one weekend.

The easiest and best class I took this year. The whole class is self-paced and super easy. If you take notes and pictures of the quizzes you took you will get an A no doubt. Each quiz and the final is all open notes, so take notes! Loved this class!

You could finish the whole class in a weekend, I spaced it out (1 quiz a week, then the final) and finished in 7 weeks. Easy to do well if you take thorough typed notes from voicethread lectures. Definitely recommend for non-ecol majors!

This course is really easy to underestimate. The majority of your grade comes from the final and there is no rounding of the final grade or extra credit. The course is taken at your own pace with everything due on the same day that the final is due. A lot of the material is available to study on Quizlet, I highly recommend using that.

I took his online class and it was very easy. Its an easy A and was happy I decided to take the online lecture to Ecology 182.

Easy A, the final grade is made up of 4 quizzes and a final- all which are available to take from the beginning to the end of the semester on your on time. All lectures/notes are posted online w/ voice overs. I enjoyed the freedom Prof. Otto gives his students which allows them to learn on their on time and pace.

Amazing professor and makes science super fun, even when it's not been my favorite subject. The lectures are long and he can go fast, but he includes lots of video clips and throws in jokes to make it fun. He will also go over what will be on the exams and let you know during lectures specific info that will be on them. Don't leave class early!

Professor Otto's online ECOL lecture is a really simple class! It's completely self-paced, and there are 5 modules (each with 4 lectures) that each end with an open-note quiz. The final exam has 100 questions and you can use your notes for that as well. Ultimately, just take good notes on all the lectures and this class is an easy 3 credits!

He only grades with midterms and the final but his class is fun! He makes you enjoy the lecture and shows short video clips about animals.

For this class you don't have any assignments and attendance does not count so your grade depends only in exams that if you attend class and read your notes a couple days before the test you will do fine. The class is relaxed and he explains well, he just doesn't like it when someone is late or leaves early.

This online class is literally so easy. Graded on 5 very easy module quizzes and a final made up of the quiz questions. Answers are on quizlet. Material is presented very nicely and nothing is due until the end of the semester so you can do it all at once in just a few hours. If you have to take ECOL take it online with Dr. Otto.

ECOL182 is grades by 5 tests, including the final. These tests are super easy if you attend the lectures and pay attention to the key concepts! Prof. is knowledgeable and directly gives you everything (no need to jump through hoops to find info). There are no reviews but like I said, key concepts are important. I would 100% take this class again!

Take this class online! After reading reviews I see students in the in-person class had a difficult time. The online class is extremely easy and you go at your own pace. The quiz content is taken verbatim from the lecture notes. I cant stress enough how straightforward this class was ONLINE.

Otto was an awesome professor! I had his 10am Mon, wed, fri, and it was one I genuinely enjoyed going too. He keeps you engaged by throwing in cool videos throughout his lectures. He also is willing to stop and answer questions and won't move on until he knows you understand. Super passionate about what he's teaching too!

Professor Otto is amazing at teaching. However, this class is literally dependent on your own ability to memorize termshundreds of them. His lectures were some of the only ones I enjoyed this semester, and he tends to crack some funny jokes too. If you have to take this course, do it with Professor Otto.

I dont know why so many people arent liking him but for me personally, he was an amazing teacher. I TOOK HIS CLASS ONLINE so I dont know about his in person classes. He gave us all the material we needed for the course and seemed available to help if needed. super easy

I knew on the first day of classes that I could not expect a curve in this course, which kind of sucked, but honestly, the class isnt even hard enough to warrant a curve. Go to class, take notes, transfer them to notecards after, and start studying a week before the exams. Easy A. Exam questions are pretty basic for the most part.

Hans is GREAT ! Biology is hard as it is but he is so passionate about it that he makes it seem easy. Everything you need for the exams is right there in front of you( all u have to do is study ). Prof. Otto offers easy-to-follow Voice Thread lectures, chalked full of engaging videos. You can tell he loves teaching biology. I highly recommend him if you are taking ECOL 182R. I finished this class entirely over Spring Break.

The lectures in this class were always interesting and my favorite to attend. He is a great professor that truly cares about you getting the grade you want. All of the information you need to get an A is in the lectures, and as long as you study the lectures you should be good!

Don't listen to all the recent negative reviews. His lectures do have everything you need to study for tests. For me, the best way to prepare for tests is to study your notes in advance and go to SI sessions. The sessions really help you understand the topics you should study for on the test. This class isn't hard, you just have to apply yourself.

Hans Otto is a great professor who is dedicated to his lectures with the only grades being 4 exams and the final. If you want to pass this class I recommend attending every lecture and taking notes/asking questions. Si sessions help A LOT! This man is a god!!!!. He really cares about students and taking so many efforts to improve his ECOL182 R. It's all about exams and no curve or extra credits, but all science classes are like this except for gen chem. Otto is very clear about the grading criteria. No, you shouldn't expect extra credit or rounding (as he says at the beginning of the class). He is great at lectures and the ECOL182L class is lecture heavy. With only tests and the final counting towards your grade. But if you study you can for sure get an A or B. I enjoyed the lectures and liked the fun and interesting videos he added to them.

I'm not sure why he's been getting graded so poorly by some people on here. His lectures are very entertaining and he keeps the class engaged the whole time which can be difficult with such a large group. The final grade is calculated based on only 5 exams but if you pay attention in the class and attend all the lectures you'll do fine.

Hans Otto is a solid professor who keeps things entertaining and informative during lecture. While attendance isn't mandatory, it's key to stay on top of the topics discussed to be prepped for the exams (the only things graded). There is no "padding" through homework or extra credit, but pulling a B shouldn't be difficult if you do minimal review.

Prof Otto's class is made of 4 exams and the final, and there is no homework or readings. That being said the class is heavily lecture based and the test rely on the information in his PowerPoints. The class in my opinion was fairly easy, if you took high school biology/ AP biology this is a very nice review class as an intro to many STEM majors!

Take the online lecture. I cannot stress this enough. It is go at your own pace and I was able to finish the course within the first few weeks. His voiceovers are pretty straightforward and quizzes and tests are easy. He is so sweet and really cares about his students. Easy A if you take it online.

It's annoying that the only grades in the class are tests, but I don't know if that's his fault or the dept. Even though he says he doesn't round, if you are right on the edge and show that you worked hard in the class, he might help you. Nice guy!

I took 182R with Otto, Walsh, and Chesson and Otto was by far the best. He was the only professor that got me engaged with the material, but after he finished teaching his section my grade plummeted. The course is only based on tests and quizzes so that kinda sucked

He is a really chill guy. Lectures often end before class but that is because he goes thru the info very fast. I would recommend downloading the lecture slides beforehand in order to stay on top of the material. Grades are based on 4 tests & a few quizzes. Study ALL OF the material THOROUGHLY & you should do very well. Test questions can be tricky.

I took this course online and it was really great! The class only consisted of 5 tests online and 1 final exam online. As long as you took good notes on the online lectures, the tests were very straight-forward.

This was by far one of the best online science classes. It was self-paced with our grade consisting of 5 quizzes and a final. Fall 2020. Take the fully online icourse version of the class. Grade is 10 VERY easy quizzes each week (10 questions 10 min), 4 exams (50 questions 120 min) that repeat questions from the quizzes, and a cumulative final (100 questions 120 min) that also repeat questions. It sounds like a lot but trust me its easy. Most answers on quizlet.

Professor Otto's lectures are entertaining, and the questions from the quizzes are all in the lectures, just pay attention! Beware that the only grades in the class are from quizzes and exams, and there are no other assignments beside this. If exams aren't your forte, this might not be the best class for you.

Otto is such a sweet human, he's so caring and compassionate about his students and truly loves his work. My 17-year-old dog that I grew up with passed away so I asked him for some extra time (only a day) to do the weekly quiz and he gave me 8 extra days and told me he was sorry for my loss he even offered condolences, such a great professor/person

Immediately from his intro video of him in nature I knew I wanted this guy teaching me ECOL. Hes so passionate. Lectures are simple to digest, take notes on them and reference them during the quizzes/exams and youll be fine. Low pressure class and I felt more inclined to learn.

Hans' lectures were the best thing about this course. They were informational and his questions on the exams were always fair. I can tell that he is very passionate about this topic. He is far better than lead instructor Bruce Walsh. I 100% taking the course if Hans is an instructor.

Took 182 online and Otto/ Walsh taught it together... 100% take with ONLY Otto. I love his lectures. It's very easy to see that he's passionate about what he does. Very engaging and provides lots of interesting examples that are great for understanding the material. His quizzes/exam questions are fair, but it's a lot of material. 2 quizzes /week.

Dr. Otto is a king. Super sweet and is really passionate about his course. His online section was mainly lecture with weekly quizzes and tests at the end of each unit. Everything on tests are straight from his lectures. No homework for his class, you just need to watch his lectures (they were a little heavy, but expected for an intro bio class).

I took the Online section of ECOL 182, it was super easy. The lectures are pretty boring over voice thread but as long as you take notes the quizzes are straight from the lectures for the most part. The exams have a lot of repeat quiz questions so make sure you review those!

Apart of joint teaching with Walsh, one of the better teachers. Lectures were interactive and packed with a lot of information. I learned a lot with his teaching style. Everything was online he hosted zooms in case there were any questions. Attendance not mandatory, 5 question quizzes after lectures and exams were a test of the lectures.

I had a great experience taking this class online over the summer. Prof. Otto is super passionate and interesting to learn from. If you take detailed notes with lecture slide numbers noted, the quizzes and exams are pretty easy! The low pressure and open notes made me not dread this class and actually enjoy the material and videos he adds.

Fantastic instructor! I loved watching his lectures and seeing him teach outside, providing real world examples about the material/animals I was learning about in their natural habitat(s). He is incredibly knowledgeable and clearly very passionate about Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, which made learning from him all the better!

Took the 7 week course and it was super easy I was able to knock it out in about 5 weeks since it is self-paced and all the assignments were due at the end of the course semester. The powerpoint lectures are very time consuming but all the questions on the quiz are on it so its worth going over. The professor is very passionate I learned a lot.

Very obvious he is super passionate about what he teaches, and is extremely knowledgeable. The specific class I took, your grade is only based off of 4 quizzes and 4 tests. This makes it kinda hard, but all of the answers are given in the lectures and you'll get an A if you just write down all the slides.

Please take his online class. It is quite a lot of materials for a Winter class but his quizzes and exams are straight from his lecture videos. A lot of questions are recycled on the partial exams and final exam. He also has a section where he posts all kinds of wildlife camera photos, which is super entertaining to look at!

He's the best super easy, you get 2 attempts on the quizzes. Dissc posts are no word count and only based on participation, the tests aren't bad, just make sure u watch all of the lecture videos or else you won't pass. Just do it in a google doc and Ctrl F, that is what I did and worked so good. I like him a lot, would take him again, easy A

Mr. Otto is a very down-to-earth guy! You can tell he cares more about learning than the quantity of material. The class is only a few quizzes over the lectures, a signature assignment (which is mandatory for any gen-ed), and a few exams. It really isn't that much work if you take notes. I will say, his lectures are a little long so don't wait.

The assignments are due at the end of the semester. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE END. The whole class would probably take a week of heavy focus to complete. As long as you watch the videos and take adequate notes, the test and quizzes are easy. They are the only things graded except the signature assignment. He cares about the topic he teaches.

Absolutely loved professor Otto! My only complaint was that quizzes were only 2-3 questions essay answer and he grades them really hard. There's also A LOT of reading scientific papers and lots of writing. The lectures are fun and interesting though and he's super nice!

Lectures are well-organized, but graded by extremely few things. Everything is due the final day of class. You can pretty comfortably do the entire class in ~15 hours of concerted effort (& probably half that if you took and remember AP Bio) so it's great as a credit filler/GPA booster

Quizzes and Exams are very lecture heavy but as long as you watch them and takes notes it's easy. Each module is about a 4 hour time commitment due to the lectures, but they were super interesting and I honestly learned a lot. There were no homework assignments besides the discussion posts but they were basically graded on completion.

Professor Otto is great! I would say the only bad side is that quizzes are essay answers and he is a heavy grader. 1 scientific paper to work on the semester, the highest grade is the Field Notebook assignment (136 animals) which you have to listen to videos and write everything about every single animal. Overall great class.

Great professor! I have taken him for a few classes but this one was the toughest of all, with lots of quizzes, labs, and a big research paper. Unlocked exams. Overall great class!

It is only lecture heavy with long lectures to watch because the class is crammed into three weeks so there is alot of material to cover. You get two attempts on his quizzes and one attempt on the exam which is all multiple choice. If you watch his lectures you'll do fine, and he adds live footage from his backyard which is cool.

Taking this class over winter was a breeze! You are only graded by quizzes and exams. If that sounds worrying, don't let it be. The exam/quiz questions come directly from the lectures and there will be no surprises. Take good notes, make flashcards, review related resources, and you will be perfectly fine.

Hans is the best! This is the second online 7-week class I have taken of his and both classes were awesome! You are graded on an analysis worksheet, a discussion, and a quiz every week and at the end of the class, you have a research paper due. Overall, as long as you sit down to do the class and take the time to do it it is really easy!

Lecture-heavy and the only grades you get are on quizzes and tests, but if you take good notes on those lectures you'll easily get 100% on the quizzes/tests. Also, do not wait till the end of the semester to start because there are a lot of lectures to get through.

I wish every professor was like Professor Hans Otto. He is the type of teacher that encourages students to learn. This class was short and sweet and I only have good things to say about the class. I completed the class with an A early. This was the least stressful class out of all my classes. I recommend Professor Hans Otto's class.

ECOL 230 is my favorite class I have taken! All the content for the course is open on the 1st day of class, including the midterm and final. All quizzes have 2 attempts, and the exams are open note. The lectures are interesting and Professor Otto includes engaging videos of himself out in the field. 100% take this class for an easy and enjoyable A!

Mostly video lectures, but worth watching closely - the exams pull from both slides and lectures. unstuck ai and diligent note-taking helped me ace this easy credit filler.

One of the easiest Ecology classes I have taken. Minimal discussions which allowed me to focus more on my own notes. A quiz every week but with 2 attempts which I found handy! Very informative class but not heavy! I have plans to take ECOL 437 with him since I had a great experience

This online lab was pretty easy. There were only around 5 assignments, but they were bigger projects. Got graded pretty easy.
