Cool professor, not very hard, makes class interesting, very clear.I took a night class,we had a quiz every week, it was easy but u need to go to class and take notes, because it's exactly from the notes.take it, if you try a little bit u'll do good :)
Although the class can be boring, and you have a quiz every class, as long as you take notes and study a little for the quizzes you'll get an A.
very easy take it
Very nice teacher, really a great guy and willing to help outside of class. His class is as straightforward as it comes. Recommend
very friendly and helpful teacher; lots of lectures and a fair amount of note taking, but all in all it's not a difficult class with just two papers, a midterm and a final. i enjoyed it and recommend it.
Hans is great. He's very nice and understanding. His lectures can be a little boring, but his tests are straight from the notes. He's great because he only covers material he's going to test on. Love ya Hans
Very easy class
Tells you exactly what is on all of the tests and only gives one paper that you get to pick the topic. Great guy!
He thinks he's super sexy.
He is super sexy and super nice. Take him.
He is very helpful, clear, and covers everything that will be on the test during his lectures. he is very fair and always makes sure to repeat things. Great Professor. (It's not about the looks!)
one of the best professors i've ever had; concise, approachable, and nice... what else can you ask for?

Hans is a great professor. You have to take a lot of notes, and you really should attend every class. Sometimes the lecture are boring, but he usually lets you out 5 minutes early. He'll go over something if you're not clear on it. He's easy to talk to if you need help. Reading the assignments helps. Tests are straight from notes so take good ones!
His lectures are clear and well-organized. The tests do require quite a bit of studying. The essay is a pain to write--get started early. That said, he is SO nice and SO willing to help. He is a very positive person and encouraging the way a teacher should be. Also, he has very nice blue eyes and great bone structure.
He is very helpful and helps alot but the lectures are boring...Me and some of my friends didnt understand what was he talking about..Helps you after the class...Do write good notes coz thats where the test is from ...The grades hard on papers..
Christianity through time was an interesting class. It was an easy class that filled my theology core. He has 4 quizzes and 1 paper, but they are very easy.
At the beginning of the year everyone got a C on the first quiz because of the "identification terms" at the beginning of the quiz that were weighted way to heavily and graded harshly.By the midterm he told us the possible terms that would be on there, making the class a hell of a lot easier.Easy A if you memorize everything he defines in the notes
Hans is a very timid and sweet man. Although lectures can drag on and be a bit boring, it is easy to see that he is passionate about the subject matter. He wants to see everyone do well and is very willing to help. He's always clear on what he expects on tests and is quite a lenient grader for the one short paper.
I have taken 2 of his classes because I knew they were easy A's. Beware his class is so boring- but easy. You must go to his lectures because that is literally his tests. Dont even buy the book, I never even opened it, for both classes. He is always willing to help- especially with the paper- which he usually gives A's as long as you put some thoug
Awesome class, awesome teacher. He is very passionate about what he teaches and is always willing to help. He is a very sweet man and wants all of his students to do well. You will do well if you go to class and take his notes. It is an easy A, but don't think you can get away without putting anytime into studying for the exams. Take this class.
Nicest teacher i've had at Loyola. He's smart and knows his stuff. Tests are based on notes in class really. you can look over stuff in the book, but I never used it. I would suggest attending class because he covers a lot in one sitting and counts participation. Only one paper, but its on whatever you want. Def take the class!
TAKE HIM IF U WANT TO GET THEO CORE DONE!!! Hans is nicest prof ever! I gave him a hug the last day of class. Unless your a slacker, you will get an A+ in his classes. You don't need the book, just copy his notes on the board and study.
Hans is the biggest sweetheart. Class is easy as long as you attend and take notes, which the exams are based on. Don't buy the book! Took him for both of my THEO cores and it was a great choice because it boosted my gpa. He is very smart and so kind. Make sure to attend class because participation counts. TAKE HANS; highly recommended.
He's the best Theo teacher and is so nice! Take him, his classes are really easy!
He is one of the nicest professors at Loyola. The class is really easy. Most people get over hundreds on the midterm. The only problem with the class is thatyou have to be at every class to get the notes or else you won't do well on the quizzes. Don't need to read any of the assigned reading. I study for 20 min. before each quiz and get A's. EASY A
Nice professor. I never used the books, just look over the notes (he writes on the board). Midterm (mc, t/f, short answer) pretty simple if you look over the notes. 12 quizzes(best 10) all are T/F based on lectures from previous week. participation pts which is quick easy worksheet discussions in a small group, essay on Jesus (short 3pg), and final
Excellent teacher- knowledgeable of the subject matter and very well-prepared. The sweetest man. Easy class. Weekly quizzes on Tuesday on notes written on the board the previous week. Attendance isn't technically mandatory but Tuesdays = quizzes, and Thursdays are participation days. He has you sign in. He prepares you well for the midterm/final.
I wish he would teach more courses. He is a wonderful professor who genuinely takes interest in you. Everything is very easy. Weekly quizzes on lecture notes - dropping the lowest 2. Midterm and a final that he prepares you for, and studies in class. You have to take this class. Majors and core. I thoroughly enjoyed my semester in his class.
Def. recommend this class! the class is super easy, and the teacher is really nice. consists of 10[out of 12] quizzes.. t/f and based on previous weeks lecture.. very easy. and then a midterm, final, and a paper. the tests are straight from the quizzes/lecture notes..not difficult if you put in the least bit of effort :)
Super nice guy, very knowledgeable.Weekly T/F quizzes, just look over the notes before hand.Midterm & final both had 10 terms to define, then MC, T/F, & a few fill in the blank for EC. 2-4pg paper on what you learned from the class. Assigned readings are helpful but not necessary, he'll go over the important bits in class. I'd take him again for sure.
One of the BEST professors at Loyola!! He is soo genuinely sweet and kind. You can tell hes really passionate about what hes teaching and cares about his students doing well. You barely have to read any text. Just attend class and you'll do great. a few quizzes, 1 essay, 1 midterm, and 1 final thats NOT cumulative. Hans is the best!!
He is a great teacher, pretty much a definite A. A great GPA booster
Probably one of the nicest professors I have ever had. Mr. Svebakken wants everyone to get an A. He puts all the notes on the board so reading isn't necessary. Midterm and Final take 20 mins max and has 12 quizzes, but he drops the lowest two scores. If you need a THEO CORE fulfilled take him.
Yes Indeed, great professor!!! MId/Final look the same terms to define and multiple+T/F+extra credit. Quizzes every week, and essay- analysis of text. You dont have to read for class, but yes you have to study, but if you go through your notes you ll do great. Even through e-mail Dr. Svebakken is very helpful.
He is very sweet and a kind man. Don't buy the books, you don't need them just make sure you go to class and write his notes. He is super understanding and likes to listen to his students. Take him for Theo core! Plus, he has fantastic cheek bones ;)
He is a very nice Professor. Very willing to help students. I never did get theology classes but with him I actually got the material and it was interesting. You do not need the books but take very good notes for every lecture. There's a 10 ques. quiz every week, a midterm, paper, and final. TAKE HIM!!!!!!!
Hans is a really great teacher! Very likeable professor... His class is fairly easy, as long as you show up and take notes. His exams and weekly T/F quizzes are directly taken from lecture, the book isn't required. I did the first reading, didn't touch the book for the rest of the semester, and still did very well.
He was my favorite teacher this semester!! He was very interesting in his lectures and the reading required is minimal. There are quizzes every week that come from the notes from the lecture and there are two tests-a midterm and a final that are mainly vocab and questions from previous quizzes. Great teacher, great class, and an EASY A!
Great guy, real gentleman, good teacher. Easy 10 min weekly homework, weekly quiz, easy exams. It will be boring, though, unless you are into theology. In my opinion, take Hans! P.s. despite the name, he is from a small town in Ohio.
OMG! BEST TEACHER EVER!!!! I do not read the books but as long as I take notes and review them for the midterm and final EASY A!! SWEETEST TEACHER! TAKE HIM
Nicest professor ever, very knowledgable, and willing to help!!!! Take him you will not regret it!
TAKE HIM for your Theo core requirements. Really nice professor. Quizzes every monday, then 3 quizzes on some books and 2 essays. A midterm and a final. This class is easy and his really clear when explaining
Such a kind and fun professor! He is very caring towards his students. The class is great! Two exams, two essays, and quizzes every week. It's easy as long as you come to class. He is really worth taking, and I hope to have him again in the future.
He's a really nice guy that is always willing to help! You have weekly online quizzes, a midterm and a final. In addition, you have to read 3 books and you get tested on them with 3 online quizzes that are 2 hours long each and consist of MC and essays. Lectures are important to show up to because you need the info for the quizzes.
Such a sweetheart. He really wants you to succeed and recognizes that this is a core class. Take good notes and keep up with the novels and you'll get an A. Online quizzes at the end of each week that are straight from the notes. Very approachable and open to new ideas.
Dr. Svebakken is a great theology teacher. There's a lot of assignments but you really don't have to read at all. Just go to class and take notes. Three "reading quizzes" throughout the semester which you don't even have to read the books for. Overall a really easy A. He has a weird participation assignment but it's super easy too.
He is a very kind person. Weekly readings are assigned, but you can do well without reading them. Midterm, final exam, weekly online quizzes, 3 online quizzes regarding novels. Definitely read the novels, even though he is an easy grader the quizzes will be difficult without reading them. Overall, very enjoyable class. An A is extremely doable.
At Loyola, Theology is a mandatory class. However, Professor Svebakken made this class worthwhile. As long as you go to class, you will have everything you need to do well on the weekly online quizzes. There are reading quizzes a few times a semester based on the books assigned. Your grade is in your hands because he offers a lot extra credit.
Dr. Svebakken is a great professor! His class is straightforward and his lectures are very clear. If you show up to class and take notes, you should have no problem getting an A in his course. He gives all of the information in his lectures and is very clear about how to get a good grade.
He is an amazing person and he knows exactly what he is doing. Lectures are very clear. Notes are VERY important, since there is an online quiz every week based on what he says in class . Basically, if you write down everything he writes on the board, you are gonna do well. If you need to ask him questions, he is pretty straightforward.
He is very understanding and kind. He is very passionate about what he teaches and his lectures really reflect that. He always goes over what will be on major tests and his notes are easy to understand. Expect quizzes every week, but nothing is too difficult.
One of the nicest professors at Loyola. Lectures are very organized. Do read the novels, otherwise the quizzes will be difficult. Overall, you will learn a lot from this class.
I was not looking forward to this class, which is why I'm so thankful I had Dr Svebakken. He's kind and he understands not everyone has the same views. Write down all the notes, and study them. Read the novels, very important for reading quizzes, and you'll do well. He also offers some EC throughout the semester, take advantage of that.
Dr. Svebakken was a great professor. Theo 100 was just a core credit for me but he made the class bearable. The workload was minimum, the only tests were the midterm and the final, weekly online quizzes, 3 books to read for the class, and a participation assessment. So if you are going to take THEO 100 for your core theology credit then take him.
Take him. Its an easy A, which is good for a core class. Take good notes and youll be fine, as his quizzes and exams are directly from lecture, sometimes word for word. Hes very open to opinions. Participation matters but you can get points in and out of class. So if you dont like raising your hand, you can do blog posts and still get an A.
There are weekly readings that are accompanied with a study guide. Any day of the given week, there will be a 1 question quiz taken directly from the SG. If you do the reading ( pretty short) and take notes, and flashcards, the class is an easy A Do the blogging, it helps with participation grade. He does look for very specific answers
2 Tests: Midterm and Final. Weekly in class pop quizzes: questions for these quizzes come from a reading guide he provides every single week for the assigned readings. Also have end of the week quizzes (15 questions) on what he went over in class that week. Also, do the blogging (it can raise your class part. grade to 100). Overall great professor
Professor Svebakken made an Intro to Christian Theology class both interesting and engaging; he is clearly very passionate about his job. He will help you if you show up to class and actually make an effort. I would absolutely recommend him as a professor, I looked forward to his class every day.
I have taken Dr. Svebakken before and he has yet to disappoint. He is one of the most thoughtful and dedicated professors at Loyola. He's very good with explaining theology clearly, and he will definitely help you become a better writer if you want to. 6-8 page research paper, 3 2-3 page primary text assignments, 4 online mc quizzes, and participat
Good class, great readings.
Amazing prof! Probably one of the best teachers I have ever had. He clearly has a passion for theology and he's made me love it so much I'm taking on a catholic studies minor!! If you have the chance definitely take him! Readings each week, midterm and a final, and a project but he makes it all really interesting!! Take him!
AMAZING PROFESSOR, SO NICE AND WILLING TO HELP ANYONE WHO WANTS AN A. The class is graded by a lot of different things which is nice and Hans is a really nice grader. There are online quizzes, participation matters, a presentation, midterm and final. The class is easy for a core class and it should be. He really makes the class interesting for all.
Hans is very easy if you do everything youre supposed to. There's weekly online logs and occasional online quizzes, but the questions are straightforward. Power Point project that you get to pick the topic of. If you raise your hand a lot he'll like you and you earn brownie points. A thoughtful and kind guy. Really cares about his students/course.
Hans is a very genuine professor, but the work load is terrible! Don't take if you don't want to be constantly working on this class. It is a core class, so it shouldn't be difficult. The course material is not difficult to understand; however, the amount of homework that accompanies the material is very overloading.
Professor Svebakken is a great person. There is a good amount of work for a core class but you will learn a lot. Be sure to do blogging a few times, because it helps your participation score a lot. I would definitely recommend.
Best Theo 100 teacher. 3 books to read for online assessments. DO THE BLOGS because that'll easily get your participation grade to 100%. Take the midterm and final seriously although the questions are selective not cumulative (pick 2 out of 6 to answer). Theologian Project is 20% of your grade. There no reason not to get an A from him. Great guy.
SUPER NICE! Easy A: do all the blogs and make sure to read the 3 books. He's a lenient grader so as long as you show thought/effort, he'll give you 100%. The only things you really have to study for are the midterm and final: no MC so know the material well, all other assessments are online. He likes participation and is an adorable person.
Professor Svebakken cares not for himself, but for his students, and his university. The work is manageable, and he is very engaging. I never once heard him tell a student their answer was wrong during lecture, he always just filled in the gaps for you. Great guy and great professor. My only regret is not taking another class with him.
One of the most genuinely kind professors I've ever had. If you ever have any questions, he will go out of his way to do what he can to help. There is a lot of reading, but go to class for discussions that reflect upon the readings to make everything clear. He cares a lot about the success of his students and is very passionate about the subject.
Professor Svebakken is easily the best professor I have had at Loyola. One of the kindest and greatest men I have ever met and is very passionate about what he teaches. Always gives good feedback and was always accessible if I needed help. One midterm and weekly online quizzes on material covered in the week prior. I wish I could have him again!
Professor Svebakken is an amazing guy and an amazing professor. It's very apparent that he cares about each individual student and wants every single person to succeed. There are weekly in class pop quizzes, but the questions are taken from a reading guide he provides. There are also weekly online quizzes, which can really boost your grade.
Professor Svebakken is a great guy. His class ended up being one of the highlights of this semester so far. Hes very fair and tells you everything you need to know to get an A. Extremely caring and considerate. 11/10
Hans is such a warm personality. Super relaxed, fair grader, and really cares about his students. There are weekly quizzes but as long as you do the readings they are a piece of cake. No surprises with this guy. The rest of my professors should take notes from him!
He really encourages class participation and makes a great class environment. Great into class, especially for freshman. He's super approachable and kind and your grade is supplemented by a lot of things that are easy to do well on if you do the work. take him!
One of my favorite professors. He is very clear about what he wants and about how the grading for the class works. My advice would be just show up to class and take good notes and you'll do fine on his weekly online quizzes. I'd also suggest to do the readings he assigns and make an effort on the projects because it will be huge for your grade.
This man is the single most woke theology professor out there. He is objective and interesting and gives a perspective to religion that I would have never expected from the Catholic school I go to. He keeps it honest, true, and always open for discussion. 10/10 professor who managed to make what had the potential to be a very boring class amazing.
Prof Svebakken easily became one of my favorites. The content might be dry at times, but he does his best to make sure you understand and succeed and makes sure you are learning through a variety of techniques. His content is thought provoking but still super doable and easy. Just show up and do your work and it should be an easy A.
Love this man. One of the best professors. I'm not very interested in Theo but after this class I want to take more courses. He is very knowledgeable and it shows. He never puts students on the spot. Never even tells you your wrong if you raise your hand and answer incorrectly. He fills in the gaps for u. Fair grader, simple assignments Prof GOALS.
Really boring and monotone, there are a lot of readings and he sometimes has pop quizzes on the reading that are one question but they're not big deal bc they're only worth one point. Assesments on novels that we have to read but you can get away with not reading at all and still getting an A on the test. 1 midterm and 1 final noncumulative.
He is incredibly boring. 3 hours of lectures a week, nothing interesting ever. If you want an easy A or B, take him. If you want to keep your sanity, take someone else
Dr. Svebakken is like vanilla cake with white frosting. Nothing quirky or out of the ordinary, but a solid go-to. It's not hard to get an A in this class if you pay attention and do some of the participation assignments.
He is very nice but insane volume of work for a tier 1 core class. Quiz every week. Read 3 novels and other items, long Powerpoint lectures every class. Chances for extra credit with weekly blogs and participation. Time consuming paper and presentation falling at the worst time, during midterms or finals. Nice prof but a lot of work.
Hans is a wonderful professor who truly cares about his students and what he teaches. I would highly recommend taking this class! While you will definitely need to attend lectures to do well on the quizzes, the work is both manageable and interesting. Definitely take this class!
a real gem of a professor! so kind and understanding, passionate about what he's teaching, gives interesting lectures. weekly online quizzes based off his slides/lectures that are easy to do well on, a midterm and final, and one individual presentation (very lowkey). participation somewhat matters, and theres 3 short books assigned total. take him!
oh my god he is the most boring man on the entire planet. Going to this class is so boring i want to stab myself in the eye with a pencil. He is so monotone and just drones on and on its wack
He's a good guy that can drone on sometimes when he lectures, but overall really cares about his students and wants the best for them. He'll go out of his way to provide extra credit opportunities and feedback throughout the semester. Be aware that participation is a good chunk of your grade!
This class was way too hard for a 100 level class. We had to read 3 books as well as tons of other readings. The lectures were really really boring. We had to blog every week and respond to blogs every week. We also had a lot of homework and quizzes every week that were really hard and closed note. We had 3 book tests and 2 normal exams.
Very easy class. Just do the weekly quizzes and blog posts and come to class. The books are easy enough and the tests are pretty simple too. Easy grader and very kind professor. Definitely take!
His online class was extremely well-organized and clear with 2 asynchronous lecture days and 1 zoom discussion per week. In discussions, he is very good at building off of students' points and has never told anyone that they were wrong. There are blogs due biweekly regarding lecture material as well. He is very caring and accessible through email.
Great teacher. He is really good at tying theological abstractions to their impacts in the modern world. He gives good and consistent feedback, especially on writing. It was a great introductory class.
Pretty easy class as long as you follow his guidelines. One quiz a week, discussion every Friday, one midterm, and one final. I'm not sure how this class will be in-person, but in an online setting it was pretty easy. The quizzes were also weird, one question wrong -1.25, but leaving it blank is -.5 it was weird. Overall, easy class though.
If you want an easy A, take this class. The grade roughly consists of the following: Attendance to discussion (25%), Easy Blogs (30), Midterm/final (10 each), Weekly quizzes (25). The lectures are boring, the quizzes are easy, the midterm is moderate, and the final is easy. The blogs can be graded harshly, but he allows you to earn points back!
His grading scale and syllabus were so vague and made no sense. His class is very boring and lectures we had to watch for homework were nearly an hour long. Do not take his class!
He is such a sweet and caring professor, the only thing is that his class was super boring. His grading is a bit weird and it can get difficult. But he is a great person.
Has this weird specs grading thing, but you ultimately choose your grade in the class. If you dont pass or do bad, then its on you. Hes very sweet and caring, but the class is boring and lectures are long. Easy A
Dr. Svebakken is very kind, caring, and helpful, but his grading system is a bit weird so if you don't go to every class and do all the homework you won't get an A. That being said, you can use tokens to make up work. He's not a harsh grader at all but he does assign a lot of homework. I personally really liked him and his class is relatively easy.
TAKE HIM FOR YOUR THEO CREDIT!!!!!!! He is the sweetest man ever. The work is very clear and simple. Take home quiz once a week, and no exams!! You need to do the work to get a good grade but the criteria is very clear, and he is very easy to reach with any questions! So nice TAKE HIM TAKE HIM TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!
Pretty easy grading and homework over the course of the week. Take him for the THEO credit!!
He uses something called the Specs Grading System and it essentially gives you the option of whether or not you want to pass. None of the assignments are mandatory but it's highly recommended if you want to pass. There is quite a bit of work but everything is pretty easy and quick to finish. It was an easy A so I would definitely take him for Theo
his grading system is awful. I did probably 80% or more of the work(I am aware I should be doing more) and almost all of that I am not getting credit for because if you miss the first assignment nothing else counts for the rest of the week.
The only person that determines your grade in this class is yourself! Professor Svebakken uses a new grading system (specs) where there are small assignments to complete every week. But NO exams, and NO final! As long as you show up and put in the effort there's no reason to not get an A. (plus there's a lot of BONUS opportunities).
He's a super nice professor, always willing to help whenever needed. His grading system is a little confusing to understand. he assigns a lot of busy work, honestly it doesn't take more than an hour to finish but do all of the weekly assignments and you will get an A. He assigns the lectures for homework which was a little annoying but not too bad.
Grading system is odd but its a pattern once you get it. Lots of busy work, easy to do. He is an easy grader and there is a bunch of extra credit to fix missing classes. Some activities are done only in class so you have to go each time to get and A, you can miss a few but calculate it to get the grade you want. Only read 3-4 sentences a week.
The grading system is a bit wonky but works. I you go to class and follow the weekly checklist you will get an A. The work is not a lot at all each assignment takes a max 15 minutes to do. Assignments include a 3 minute slide presentation which you can voice over, writing a question, writing a stand point critique, and an online quiz.
his homework is incredibly straightforward and easy. you can get by easy without doing the readings. knows the material well and does a good job at explaining it. If you like to skip class do not take him! you can skip sometimes but not regularly if you want a good grade. grading system can be a bit confusing but he's very nice and will explain.
easy/refreshing grading style! weekly 3-minute presentations but only 3 present in class, rest do a voiceover. plenty of extra credit opportunities. lots of busy work but nothing is difficult. he often has sign-in sheets so attendance matters! you don't have to watch his lectures outside of class, i took notes during class. i did not buy the books
Professor Svebakken is a very caring professor. Each week consists of a few simple tasks, and an online quiz on Friday. The tasks are relatively short, except the 3 minute presentation, which probably takes 30-60 minutes to make and present (voicethread), but overall, YOU choose your own grade based on how much you care do the simple tasks.
You pick and choose pretty much what grade you want from the beginning. The books are necessary to buy, you can find summaries to help you with the assignments. Attendance is counted through assignments in each class. The way he talks is confusing in the beginning, but read the syllabus for full information!!!
Prof Svebakken is really chill. He uses the Specs grading method, which is based on the amount of assignments you do. As long as you do all the assignments it's an easy A. No midterm, no finals, no essays just assignments all semester. You can calculate your grade for the end of the semester on the first day and decide how much work you want to do.
You do not need to buy the required readings. Going to class is a must to get credit for the in-class assignments. You can make corrections. The good thing is there is not any type of exam, so you do not have to memorize anything for more than a week, and he has extra credit opportunities.
Specs grading is a bit confusing to understand at first, but once you get the hang of it, every week follows the same schedule with the same types of assignments. You have to go to class every day to get all the points because there are in class assignments each day. No exam, and I thought the structure made it easier to learn.
Professor Svebakken is hands down one of the best professors. His grading scale is very different, but you get used to it very quickly and I like it a lot better than the standard scale. There's a reasonable and manageable amount of work per week and you have to present a one page slide on the material like once or twice. Take him!
No Exams, No Mid-Term, No-Final. Weekly manageable assignments and take home quizzes. Definitely would recommend this class. Stress-free class.
Professor Svebakken is the sweetest guy ever! His specs grading can be difficult to understand at first, but you get the hang of it. You can basically pick your own grade at the start of the semester, depending on how much work you want to do. No exams, just weekly busywork. Take his class if you can! You won't regret it!
He is the nicest professor I have ever had and cares about his students. All materials are given to you and all expectations are outlined very clearly and there is little homework outside of reflection prompts in class and a midterm and final.
He uses the specifications grading system (google it). You have to watch the lectures outside of class. There are in class activities and outside of class homework that are the same structure every week. No tests, just online quizzes every week. You don't really have to do any of the readings. Not too boring and not too much work.
I did not want to take Christian Theology but it was the class I got stuck with. But I can safely say I love Professor Svebakken. Dr. Svebakken is an easy grader and all of the assignments are quick to do. There's no midterm or final. Has a textbook but not necessary. Highly recommend for your core THEO class.
I can't recommend Prof. Hans! He uses a specs grading system that is so refreshing and alleviates so much stress. You basically get to choose your own grade depending on how much effort you want to put in. So many opportunities for points back and generally easy assignments. He definitely cares for his students!
PLEASE take Dr Svebakken for THEO 100, he is genuinely the sweetest professor I have ever had. So understanding, very clear expectations, and very engaging. Can not recommend him enough.
Professor Svebakken is a very caring professor who is willing to help students when they do not understand the material. There are no exams in his class. Your grade is fully based on how much work you are willing to do. Each assignment is graded on a pass or fail basis. The quizzes are all online and he is a very insightful professor.
If you like busy work and no tests, take this class. Confusing grading system but you learn it. You have the same 4 assignments every week, including an open note quiz you do online which is easy. Attendance is mandatory since you get points for being in class and completing a tiny writing. Prof Svebak is very knowledgeable and gives great feedback
I absolutely loved having Professor Svebakken. He was extremely kind and his workload was consistent and totally manageable. His work was easy and there were no exams whatsoever. He was the only professor I liked this semester and I would encourage anyone to take any of his classes. I had no interest in theology but he made it interesting for me.
Take Professor Svebakken for THEO100!! His class has no formal tests because he uses a grading system that is more or less busy work where you get to choose your grade based on how much work you choose to do. While the class is an easy A, you will still learn a lot and he is a nice guy who is accessible outside of class as well!
I took his J-term class and it was SO worth it. 10 days total with a short blog each day abt the readings, pretty brief zoom each day to discuss, and like 5 online quizzes but the material is all posted in his lectures. Prof. Svebak cares abt his students, provides xtra credit, and grades pretty easily, as long as u put forth any effort ur good.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR IF YOU DON'T HAVE TIME FOR BUSY WORK. While the material of this course interests me, I simply don't have time to thoroughly do the massive amount of work he assigns. Due to the way he grades this class, to achieve an A would take a great deal of effort and time. I'm exhausted trying to keep up with all of the material.
Hans is a very good professor. A lot of work but it is pretty easy when you understand the grading scale. There are no exams and he is very lenient for make-up work.
Dr. Svebakken is very caring and considerate, but his grading scale is sort of confusing at first. It's all just gaining points from the same assignments every week, with 7 points available each week. 7 x 14 = 98 possible points, but 4 of the points are earned in class. So you have to show up. The work itself is easy, it's just a lot of busy work.
He's good- maybe a bit overrated on here but thats just my opinion. The class is easy but you pretty much have to come to every class as you get points every time you show up. Lectures are recorded outside of class and its easier if you come to class with the notes already taken but can be time-consuming. Chill guy though and would take him again.
Guys the class is alright if you're okay with busy work, but it's so much for just a tier 1 class. He talks in circles, so don't be surprised if you don't get a clear response from him. The criteria to earn an A in this class is straight-forward, but the grading system in this class is so bad. One point for any entire essay is ridiculous.
Dr. Svebakken is kind and caring, but his class is a bit intense for an intro level gen-ed theology class. The class itself isn't particularly difficult, but it is labor intensive, and assignments can snowball at times. His grading scale is confusing at first, but it's mostly effort based and not harsh. Overall, he's a good choice for this class.
Professor Svebak's THEO100 class has a unique grading system, but it's manageable if you stay on top of the weekly assignments. The workload is heavy, but using resources like Unstuckstudy alongside the textbook helps make it more manageable. Overall, a good class if you don't mind the busy work.
Awesome professor. Very kind, helpful, and understanding. The class was actually on an interesting topic too. All exams are take home exams, there are some quizzes but he tells you what will be on it so you know the answers beforehand. Prof. Svebakken is a very nice guy and he's always kind to students. It's very clear to see how passionate he is.
Unique grading system. As long as you do the weekly assignments you will be fine. There is a quiz online every week. Most answers are online if you know where to look. Assignments are the same but a different topic each week. It's easy to get behind if you don't do them when assigned. Office hours are helpful, he really wants students to succeed.
He's really nice. He has a weird structure of assignments and grading that took me a few weeks to get used to, but now that I understand, it's super easy. No midterm or final, but there is a weekly take-home multiple-choice quiz. Classes can be boring, but not too bad. Definitely take him if you want an easy theo!!
Uses a weird grading system, but it's not that bad. He has a good amount of weekly homework but it honestly does not take that long. Each assignment probs takes me 10min max if I focus, and he's a very easy grader. No exams but he does weekly quizzes which are take home. Make sure you go to class because there's always an in class assignment.
Super sweet and cares a lot about the class and his students. Was always available for questions too. His class was a bit heavy for an entry class but the content was interesting and SUPER easy. Never have I stressed about doing homework for his class. Class isn't hard at all just show up and do the busy work and you're kinda set.
He was a decent professor. The class was so boring. There was so much busy work that consisted of two lectures and notes outside of class, in class there was group activities and sight readings, plus module research, conversation starters, reflective responses and module quizzes each week. It was a lot of work for a trashy class.
Super easy class, lots of homework/assignments but they are all easy. The class is a "flipped" format, so you have to watch lectures before class (2 per week). Lectures can get a bit boring because you watched it before and he goes over it again. Weekly quizzes, but they are easy. I would take this class over and over again if I could.
The grading system is a little confusing at first and there is A LOT of busy work, but overall it is very easy to get an A in this class as long as you do the work. It is a flipped classroom style so you have to watch the lectures before class and there are some in class assignments. He is very passionate about theology and a great professor!
I honestly think hes overrated. His class is super easy but theres like 4 assignments every week and every class session we have an in class assignment so attendance is basically manditory. I didn't realize that until halfway through the semester because the grading system is kinda confusing. Just so much unnecessary work.
This was a very easy intro course. You do get points for the assignments done in class, so attendance is very mandatory. Read through the syllabus to get a good understanding of his points grading system. No final, essays, or tests, just do the assignments you are given each week and show up to class and you are set. would reccomend
