Dr. Jing is very passionate about Chemistry, and this translates into well-executed lectures. He goes through practice problems and tries to ensure everybody is following and understands. It is abundantly clear that he truly cares about his students' success. He's a great professor - I highly recommend him. Be ready for iClicker quizzes though.
General chemistry is not an easy class and Professor Jiing knows that. His explainations are great and easy to understand. He is also very encouraging. Theres nothing he can do about the difficulty level of chemistry, but he does his best to make sure as many people understand it as possible!
Hao is so caring and nice. He obviously wants all of his students to pass and does everything he can to make that happen. There's no better chem professor at Mason than Hao. Super funny too!
Gen Chem is very very hard. Professor Jing tries to make the class not as boring as it normally would be. Tests are very hard and there are a lot of iClicker quizzes in class. Dont skip! Jing is very very caring for his students, he understands how hard his class is.
Dr. Hao is the best lab Professor Ive taken at Mason thus far. Gives good feedback and is a fair grader. He makes labs interesting and always is ready to help. When I was sick and turned my lab report late, he was very understanding. Definitely take any possible labs with him and you wont regret!
I'm not good at chemistry, at all. I hate it. Dr. Hao is the best out of the three chem professors I've had at Mason. Show up for iClicker quizzes. Do all the homework. Study ALOT. The only con I have is that he doesn't curve each test, just once at the end of the semester. I hate chemistry but Dr. Hao is a professor I actually recommend
To be honest, I do not like chemistry at all. However, Dr. Hao is really funny, and he made his lecture not as boring as other chem lecture. I would definitely recommend to take Dr. Hao's Chemistry lecture. Just practice a lot and study hard enough to prepare for all the exams and the final.
Professor Jing really wants his students to exceed in his class but the class is not easy (its chemistry). The tests are really hard and difficult to understand. Had to self-teach by watching organic chem tutor
Dr. Jing is so kind. Chemistry is just incredibly hard, and a lot of professors don't teach it well. Dr. Jing really tries, and you can tell he loves chemistry; he makes the class funny and as lighthearted as that soul-crushing class can be. He's a great instructor and after having some of the other professors for Chem, I can vouch he's the best.
Dr. Jing has a very good personality. I had him for P Chem I lab. He gives good feedback and works very hard to help his students learn complicated material. I highly recommend him.
Dr. Jing really cares about his students and he's a very passionate teacher. If you don't understand something, he's always available during office hours, and he is very happy to go over material with you until you feel comfortable with the concepts. Overall, super cool professor and I definitely recommend him for PChem 1 lab.
Super super nice! He really wants the students to do their best and study hard--He will help you one on one and is very engaging!
He really encourages his students to not give up because he knows chemistry is not easy. He is very patient and will explain things as many times as you need. He also includes chemistry jokes in his lectures!
Like others have stated he is a nice professor, but an awful grader. Class averages were in the 40s consistently, but assured us constantly that there would be a massive curve in the end. Ultimately final grades got bumped up by only 7 points (should have been much more given department policy) meaning a good portion of the class failed.
Dr. Jing is by no means a horrible prof. Are the midterms difficult? Yes. Is this course difficult? Yes. For his first semester he was better than most people's reviews are showing him to be. All you need to do is study ahead of each lecture while understanding the concepts, do the homework, and to go to his office hours if you're very confused.
Trash prof. Barely teaches the easiest version of a question then gives the hardest possible version on the test. Unless you self teach, getting above a 50 on an exam is impossible which is sad since there isnt even a curve at the end of the course. He promised a curve several times but didnt even give one. Overall he is a horrible professor.
If you want to pass this class, show up to the review sessions and visit his office hours. This course is very difficult, but he is very willing to help students who go looking for help. He DOES curve, but to give you a sense, students with cumulative scores of 47% (factoring the weight of the tests) and above passed. Make it clear you want help!
HOW CAN ONE BE SO BAD AT TEACHING
Jing is a very kind man however you must work VERY hard to do well on his tough exams. I studied 15 hours per week and got almost an 100% total raw score. Most people in this class seemed to rely solely on his lectures to learn the material. Big mistake. Read the book, take notes, watch videos, and do and redo every practice problem you can find.
Just dont take the class with Hao.
Honestly not sure why people are getting downvoted for speaking the truth. Class was just bad and only a small hand full not even 10 people, got an A. Suspicious that anything negative gets immediately downvoted. As for the person who commented about med school. Gen Chem questions on the MCAT aren't even that hard compared to the problems in class.
He's good. Very helpful, but you need to work for a grade. He does curve.
Course was not very organized and expectations of what we should know was not clear. Midterm exams were not helpful for the ACS final.
Poorly structured course. Expectations of what students were expected to know was not specified.
Would not recommend taking this professor as he's not very clear or straightforward with what we should know. Grading explanation was vague for the final.
He's new and Mason welcomes him, but I don't at all. He's awful because he's not clear at all and isn't helpful at all. His exams are impossible. We need to change professor.
Not a good professor. His exams are extremely brutal and his grading system is horribly bad. Not recommend at all.
2nd time taking this class. Love his lectures but tests are HARD. He writes while he lectures which helps. Iclickers almost every class. Get partial credit just for voting. Gives plenty of examples. Mastering at the end of every unit. Guessed on almost every test question but usually got within the average(50-60% ). Curves heavy.
He writes on the projector and his lectures are clear and engaging. His exams are tough. There is a curve, but do not rely on them. In order to get an A in his class, you need to worry about mastering all the materials. If you want an easy grade, do not take this professor. However, you will learn a lot by taking his class.
Awful
Excellent
Dr. Jing is a good professor. He encourages to engage in learning and he wants all students to be successful. His tests are hard, but fair. He was very kind and helpful when I went to his office hours for help. If you want to do well, go to class, take notes, and make sure you redo all the homework problems as a practice.
Prof. Jing is very helpful throughout the semester and his office hour is conductive to the learning process.
Jing really cares about his students although chemistry tests are extremely hard. And there is indeed a curve at the end of the semester. His lectures are engaging and attractive in terms of the combination of using ppt slides and document camera. He posts all lecture notes on Bb in time as well as slides. Strongly recommend him!
A good professor. He tries his best to explain the hard subject clearly. His lectures are very helpful and really easy to understand. It just takes many hours of studying outside the class to get an A. His exams are not difficult compared with other professors'. He is genuinely kind person and will help you pass if you show that you are trying.
Jing is good at explaining hard knowledge in a simple way and always gives good feedback to students and he shows respects. Recommend him!
He's a very kind professor. He teaches very well and he is truly more than happy to help you if you ask for it. Highly recommended.
Dr. Jing is a very understanding professor and will do whatever it takes for you to pass the class. His exams reflect exactly what was covered in class and homework problems. He always responds to emails and helps everyone. Understand how to do problems in addition to understanding concepts. Just how that you are trying and he will help you pass :)
Exams are not difficult if you are comfortable with homework problems. He's very kind and he explains very well. If you have to have this class, definitely take it with this professor. Avoid Weatherspoon at all costs.
I had Dr. Jing his first semester here and it wasn't too bad. He was very light-hearted and tried his best to make sure the class understood. Didnt emphasized heavily enough what to study for tests (everything), ACS final study guide did help though. Overall, good professor, do the homeworks, reading comp questions, and come to class for iClicker
P chem is a hard class in general, so you need to put in some work to get a good grade. If you want a degree in chemistry, you have to learn this stuff. Dr. Jing does his best to explain the material simply, but it can only get so simple. Exams are multiple choice and he gives a list of topics to focus on. Questions are just like in class questions
He's a very good professor. He manages to explain very clearly. There's no surprise for exams since they reflect what was covered in practice questions and homework. The material is very difficult. It just takes a lot of efforts to pass or get an A in this class.
Cares a lot about his students, loves to help/answer questions. I personally felt that there could've been more organization and structure to his lectures to help us understand better, but it's his 1st semester teaching pchem so he's still learning. Very adaptive/responsive to the class's needs. I'd strongly recommend getting the textbook to study
Amazing! Very caring about students and tries to help as long as you show up.
Jing fell short in representing the material comprehensibly for me. It was hard material and his first year teaching so we had a rough start (1st exam avg was a 45). But he gave us so much support for the following exams. He cares SO much about his students and did his best to help us learn. In the end, he prepared us well for the ACS pchem final.
Professor J explained the material well and gave lots of example questions in class, many of which showed up on the exams, so make sure to go over those if you take him. Exams were long and tedious, and the highest class average was 54, but he says there will be a curve. My main problem were the HW questions, many of them weren't covered in class.
He's the worst professor at the campus. He has no idea how to teach and gives us random questions on test that are not even in the homework or example problems. It's impossible for someone to get an A's in his class.
Exam questions don't reflect what was covered in class or on homework. Not a good lecturer either.
Dr Jing is one of the nicest and most caring professors Ive had. His exams are extremely hard, and the average was always low on each of them. Hes very approachable and always down to help his students and give them advice. If you are up for a challenge, take his class but the exams are tough. Love him though and would take again
Professor Jing is such an amazing, respectful, and full of humor professor. About the class: 1. Attendance is mandatory because there are so many i-clicker quizzes. 2. Used Mc Graw Hill for homework (always due on a Saturday) 3. Exams were hard (there was not enough time since each problem required a lot of work and focus) 4. CURVE IS BIG 5. FUN!
He was great and really funny!! You must go to class due to random i-clicker quizzes. Test are really hard, requires lots of work; doesn't allow most people to finish in time. Don't worry, there's a BIG curve (trust me). DO THE HW!!! That's what got me a B as well as the i-clicker quizzes. Only bad thing is he goes extremely fast through lectures.
He is a very nice, funny, and caring professor. There are i-clicker quizzes almost every lecture. He covers the material well, although sometimes moves too fast. I wish he posted his notes on bb with the powerpoint slides bc they were more helpful. Some sections he wasn't as well as explaining as others but overall he's and okay professor.
I loveeeeed this professor. You can really tell he cares about the subject and also cares about his students. His tests are HARD AF and the average will be really low but with the I clicker, hw, and the massive curve at the end you should be fine. DONT FORGET TO ATTEND THE LAST CLASS HE GIVES LIKE 40 FREE POINTS
Chem at GMU is impossible but jing makes it bearable. His lectures are super detailed and he posts them online. A lot of examples from lectures and practice tests are on the exams. Curves pretty well too. Stay in the average for exams and do HWs and iclickers, and you'll get a B.
If you're taking chemistry at Mason, you already know that no matter who you have as a professor, it'll be difficult to get an A. That being said, Professor Jing is probably your best bet at getting an A. Sincerely cares about his students and was very passionate about the subject, but you need to put the time in and study. Exam averages in the 40s
He 's the best chem professor I've ever had!! His tests are very difficult but as long as you're near the average, put in a lot of effort, and do well on the iclickers and the hw, you should be fine. I didn't do as well on the exams but his curves HELP A LOT, I ended up getting a B as my final grade!
Professor Jing is very caring and funny at times as well. His powerpoints are very detailed and his hand notes are useful. He also does examples in class as well. There are also i-clicker quizzes in almost every class. He tries to explain material to the best he can but it still confused me a lot. Curves are also big, so be near the average.
Had is the man!!! Best chem professor Ive taken so far. He actually tries to teach you. If you can, take him. Does iclicker quizzes to boosts your grade. Curves heavily.
Love Jing as a person, he is awesome and very-well respected. He is also a great professor. HIs lectures can be quick, but if you do the homework or read before the lecture they aren't that hard to follow. He curves a lot which is awesome, but don't depend on it. Homework is fair but Iclicker is annoying.
Professor Jing is an amazing teacher his lectures are great. He starts by bringing the concept's basic meaning and then he uses practice problems and works with us in the class. If you study the homework problems and his lecture notes then you should do very well. General Chemistry II can be easy if you know how to do the problems.
Very difficult class but a very caring professor.
Dr. Jing is my favorite professor I have ever had. It is excited about his subject material, which gets me excited in turn! He cares deeply about making sure every student understand the material and is receptive to our needs. He loads lectures with practice problems that help us grasp every single concept. If you do the work, you're golden.
Only said skip class you won't pass because he's an iClicker question prof, some classes none and some like 7. He is the sweetest ever and really wants to make sure you understand. Homeworks are on McGraw Hill so that gives you a chance to bring your grade up (exams can be tough!!) Overall I would DEF take him again!! DO HIS PRACTICE TESTS!!
I wish he was my science prof for every chem related class I'm going to take. Loved his lectures! So kind and funny. Really cares about his students. show up to class, take notes, actually study the material, ask for help, do Hw, you should do well! Exams aren't tricky, from the material taught in class. He goes over many examples, explains well!
Professor Jing is the best gen chem professor I have had at Mason! You have iclicker quizzes that he discusses what the answer is before its time to pick an answer, online homework assignments for each chapter, graded on 3 tests and he goes over the practice exams(those help A LOT), and he is the sweetest and hilarious person ever. TAKE HIS CLASS!
Great professor! Made chemistry easier to learn and cares about his students! Exams are easy if you go to class!
KING JING! Love this professor so much. He genuinely understands how students think. Iclicker quizzes he breaks it down and walks you through the problem. His lectures are funny, examples are useful and help with the exam. Very caring and nice. Always available for office hours and willing to work w you. Put in the effort obviously because its chem
Dr. Jing is by far the best professor I've had this semester and at GMU so far! He made up for all the things I didn't get in 211 b/c I now genuinely understand chemistry. Great lecturer! I-clicker and practice tests will help your grade a lot! HW was not bad. An amazing person overall! Definitely take him!
Chem is a notoriously horrible department at Mason but he's probably the best prof. they have. He genuinely wants students to do well and even walks you through iclicker questions so you can get extra points. 3 exams + ACS. He also uploads all his powerpoints and past exams which a lot of chem professors don't do. Definitely take him if you can.
Super nice guy, he really understands the materials and tries to make it easier for students to understand. He realizes he may go too fast so he tries to ask us how he's doing. He makes homework's through the online textbook which can help your grade if you do them and they help learn the material. He does do i-clicker quizzes, these are about 10%.
Take Hao Jing if you can. Lectures are so helpful, didn't touch the textbook other than for the Learning Smart homeworks. Exam problems are identical to the practice problems from lecture and practice exam problems. Make sure to show up to class for iClickers because he will tell you which problem will show up on the exam.
Prof. Jing is AMAZING! His exams come from the powerpoints, iclickers and PRACTICE EXAMS. Make sure you practice problems from these things multiple times. He's so nice and REALLY wants students to do well. Make sure you take pics of in class iclickers- they show up on exams and are 10% of your grade. I'd take him for chem 1,000x over. He's great!!
Really nice guy, you can tell that he genuinely wants you to do well in his class. Make sure to show up to all of his classes because he does iclicker questions in almost all of them. He basically gives you the answer to all of these questions so it's pretty much just free points.
I liked his personality but I didnt learn well from him.
Super great and funny. Chem is kinda hard to understand but you have to put in the effort, go through the powerpoints and do practice problems. He makes sure that everyone understands and does practice problems. I wouldve gotten an A if it weren't for the final, which was very hard and completely different from what was done in class
His tests are VERY difficult. Go to the lectures, listen, take notes, do practice problems, and study!
Dr. Jing is a kind and respectful professor. He teaches really well and does a lot of examples to make sure you understand the concept. The exams are exactly what he teaches and they're similar to the practice exams and homework. Focus on the lectures and you'll be just fine.
Hao Jing is GMU's best Chemistry Professor! His tests are reflective of his lectures, homeworks, and study guides so as long as you've prepared adequately, you'll be good. He doesn't use ACS for the final, which is a major relief. I never used the textbook except for the connected LS and HW, which was a great grade booster.
The actual GOAT of the chem department. Same feeling you get when you get out of a abusive relationship and find someone that's actually good for you. Just do the homework and DO his study guides.
Don't like chem? Just taking it to meet another department's requirement? You're not alone. Avoid the hardcore stress of some of the other chem profs and stimulate your mind with Hao Jing's not-hard-and-you'll-still-learn CHEM 212 class, you'll thank me later. There, that's my sales pitch.
Talks too fast.
Going to class is pointless because I can teach this material myself.
It's amazing how well he teaches and how chill his class is compared to the rest of the chem profs. If chem is not your strong suit, he will guide you through. He goes through the material at a reasonable pace and applies no additional difficulty to what is already built in to the subject. He's the standard the other profs should be living up to.
Hao Jing is a great professor and lecturer! The key to doing well in his class is to understand his I-clickers, homework, and PRACTICE EXAMS and your golden.
He is the best chem teacher in this horrible chem department. His lectures are clear and translates directly to the three midterms. The example questions he includes in his lectures are always harder than the questions on the exam, and the iclicker quizzes are also on the tests (which are mcqs). He's super nice and gives really helpful study guides
Professor Jing is probably one of the best chemistry professors at Mason. He has a great personality and is funny as well. If you do his homework assignments, you are pretty much set for the midterm exams. He teaches great and overall is an amazing professor.
HE IS THE BEST 212 PROFESSOR EVER. TAKE HIM! His exams are like the hw and SB. Show up to class c/z of the pop up quizzes which do impact ur grade. His exams are so easy and this class is such an easy A. He is funny, he does have a thick accent too but its fine. Sometimes u got to teach urself but he is amazing. Easier than chem 211.
I love this professor! I didn't find chemistry easy but he made its manageable :) !!! I found the homework a breeze after reviewing the textbook questions. Going to class was fun and he takes his time explaining things. Also he looks like my pediatrician ( Alexander L Zhang M.D.)
Dr. Jing is probably the best professor and human there is. He is so caring and understanding, he makes a difficult subject in gen chem 2 and makes it easy to understand. There is no other professor at Mason who is like Dr. Jing.
Professor Jing was amazing, both in terms of teaching and as a person. He has i-clicker quizzes and hw, but doing them just pads your grade and they connect to his exams, which are directly from what he teaches. His practice exams are the best resource. He truly cares about helping you learn, and is funny as hell! Best in chem dept, take his class!
Attendance isnt mandatory but there are random Iclicker quizzes so you never know which class will have them. all exams are online. Smartbook and hw assignments on Mcgrawhill.I emailed him once abt hw and he never answered. Besides that, he's a great prof, he is funny and makes sure everyone understands the topic.Knows his stuff and is a great guy!
Best chem prof. HW is based on completion only, tests are similar to the practice exam and HW=>Do them if u want to pass. This class has many advanced calculations and formulas so pay attention during his lecture. Easy random i-clicker quizzes. He truly cares about his students and wants us to understand the material. No ACS final.
Professor Jing is a shining star in an otherwise dark chem department. His expectations were clear and consistent, his homework directly led to increased understanding and comprehension. Although not required and a time consuming task reading the textbook before the lecture defiantly helps and makes the class much easier.
Best chem professor ever. You'll actually learn in his class and he makes chem seem relatively easy. The homework is not difficult so make sure to do them since they are graded. Do his study guides for each midterm since those really help prepare you for the midterms as well as the final exam. There's also iClickers in his class.
Prof. Jing is the best chem professor that I took. He makes chem seem easy even if you're not good at chem. He also has iClicker questions and homework which helps your grade a lot. His exams are similar to his sample problems in the slides. I would recommend taking his class.
LITERALLY THE BEST CHEM PROF EVER! GIVE HIM A RAISE OMG
Prof. Jing really cares about his students to succeed. He helped students review the lecture contents learned from the previous class and he used iClicker as the pop up quiz. He always kept students engaged and encouraged students to answer in-class questions. Very helpful and professional. The best chem prof at GMU.
Attendance is mandatory since there are pop up quizzes every week randomly given throughout the class. Study guide is similar to the exams so focus on those and attend review session class. Hw grade is high make sure you do them. He is strict on doctors/work note documentation if you miss a quiz or need extra time on hw. Take him you will def pass!
Very clear lectures that are easy to follow as long as you pay attention. Reading the textbook before the lecture is super helpful too since the lectures build off it and use some of the same diagrams, definitions, etc. There are pop quizzes sometimes, but they are usually pretty simple. Study guides are really beneficial for the tests.
I was nervous to take this class but professor Jing made it super fun! He is very skilled at teaching the topics and closely follows the textbook. The in-class quizzes and tests are easy if you study/pay attention and his tests are very similar to the study guide. Super funny and huge dad vibes. Definitely take him if you have the option!
Very nice professor, his exams don't have a webcam on honorlock. Quizzes on pollev on most classes. He is a funny guy and explains things well. Homework is on Aleks and is the main thing used to study.
Honestly the only good chem professor in GMU. Take him if you can super kind, and make sure to do your practice text. Attendance is not mandatory but you will get pop quizzes. 10/10 class.
I swear on my life that Prof. Jing is an amazing professor. Come to class and take the quizzes, they aren't difficult. Listen to his lectures and take notes! He prepares you for exams with practice exams that are formatted like his actual exams. Plus, he is funny and personable. He actually has passion for teaching. Love this guy so much!
Dr. Jing is easily the best professor in the department. He's super personable and clearly loves teaching. If you actually go to class the class will be easy. I highly advise against skipping as he teaches well in class and there are quizzes most class periods. His practice exams are nearly identical for the most part to his exams too which is nice
Wonderful professor. Definitely take him if you get the chance. I enjoyed his lectures as he was pretty funny and engaging. There are random quizzes on polleverywhere so I'd recommend going to class. All the exams were online using honorlock.
This man was such a delight to have as a professor. I loved going to his lectures as they were super engaging and fun. He made me more confident in my chemistry skills.
He prioritizes having students like him over making their life hard if they're not a school person. If you are interested in getting an A in this class, you don't have to put in a ton of effort. Make sure to do your ALEKS homework on time because that's worth a good chunk of your grade. He gives you every opportunity to get an A.
The goat. Need I say more?
The goat. One of the best professors for Chemistry.
