Hard class the professor focuses mor in to sciences no final. Lots of writing 1-2 journal interies per week in-class and out of class essays. The professor is available 24 hrs via e-mail. no to much grammar exercises in class and not in class tests.
This teacher, among other like Cramer, are the ones that should leave SMC. Avoid this guy. For your own sake.
There is a good amount of writing in this class, but nothing exceptionally difficult. Great class if you want to improve you writing skills. He is also very helpful and involved if you need anything.
By far, the worst english teacher i have had. very difficult. he expects you to be some EXPERT writer at the start til the end of class. I managed to get a good grade, but it took a lot i mean A LOT of effort.

As if Shakespeare isn't difficult enough, you get a professor who is unclear as to what he is looking for in your papers. If you don't answer a question with his exact thought you are wrong. We spent 3 weeks on 1 play alone and had many more to go.

The guy will fail you if your essays do not reflect HIS thoughts. His grading practice was so bad many students in the past complained about him to the department chair...I can't believe he's still allowed to teach. There's something wrong with SMC...
retarded class, at first i got Cs and going into the research paper and then the final i was sure i was gonna get a C. I wrote ONLY facts on the research paper and the final, no opinions, just facts and got As on them. 1 of 3 B in class at end. NEVER TAKE
This teacher WILL contradict everything you have ever learned in the past. He is about as ridiculous as he is ugly. He clearly contradicted his own text and held no common sense. I complained to the dean, there's really not much she can do though.

I had a hard time getting anything constructive out of his class, and I love writing. I couldn't understand his critizism. It is a ton of writing! But I was worried about my grade and when I talked to him about it, and he helped me out.

he is a very hard grader. many students droped out, because he was not clear in what he wanted in his essays. he also graded very hard. the only opinion he expressed in his reaview of your work was,"more detail". every one recived that comment.

he was a very helpful teacher and his work wasn't difficult it was rather helpful, especially now in my upper division math classes.
he's a pretty hard teacher and usually has you write an in class essay every week. he's not all too clear in what he wants in your papers, but he's definitely willing to help if you put in the effort. my writing improved by the end of his class.
For reading material he gave the class a Physics book. We had to observe how the author wrote. Most of us couldn't understand a word, therefore we didn't see the significance of her writing. We couldn't get past the science terminology. Don't take.

this guy gets lost in his own words. gives assignments that are unrelated to the class.Can't speak english clearly. highly recommended to take someone else even if it you have to change your schedule a little but the odds of getting a higher grade is good

Possibly the worst english teacher I have ever had. Very unwilling to accept different opinions, and an absolute ineptitude to help students correct their mistakes.
I was an A+ english student before attending Vishwanadha's class. My first essay I recieved back from him was covered in irrelvant criticism, when I asked him how I could fix it, he shrugged his shoulders and said "I don't know".
This guy has some problems. He never gave one A on any paper he assigned, wait, he did say he gave 1, but it wasnt in my class, WOW! He just tells you a little bit about the assignment then grades horribly while you are confused. This is the worst teacher i have had and do not take his class!

I had him for both Asian Literature and English Literature, and he was one of the best English teachers I have ever had. His classes are not easy, but I truly felt like I grew intellectually in his classes. I'm very proud of the A I got in his class.

This guy cannot teach english for the life of him, all his essays are cluttered with "more detail" comments, and when you ask him how you can improve it, he just babbles on and on off subject till you just walk away, do not take him if you can help it.
Probably one of the best professors I had at SMC. I think students get upset with him because he grades EXTREMELY hard (there's absolutely no grade inflation), but he is a thoughtful, articulate, intelligent man, who respects students who are likewise thoughtful, intelligent, and articulate.

One of the best professors I've ever had. If you want an easy A, take another class. His lectures are extremely interesting, insightful, and thought provoking; he connects literature to metaphysics, art, religion, politics, and science. He grades tough, but fair and you can always approach him.
These reviews are funny, and say more about the people who wrote them than the quality of the teacher. His class is f$# great! He is a very hard grader, but his lectures are FAR from boring. If you can only talk about MTV, sports, shopping, and are lazy, then no, don't bother. If you're reasonably bright/curious you will LOVE it, but work hard!!

This teacher isn't a bad guy, his lectures aren't uninteresting and he's not a bad teacher, but his grading techniques are simply unfair and very discouraging.Take this class if you are an incredibly GREAT writer, otherwise, you are in for a rude awakening. This teacher is crazy. His accent is heavy heavy like lifting olympic weights. Work your ass off, do everything, participate, kiss ass and you'll manage to get a B in the class. The teacher has no heart he'll give you a grade and disappear, like a robbery... He'll rob you of your grade. NO.

Very difficult class, tough grader, but I did get an A in his class because I worked my *ss off. So, I don't feel sorry for all those whiners that posted negative responses as they were most likely just lazy students. PS, this was my first English class in more than 17 years so if I could do it and get an A so can anyone who does the work.
He is a very intelligent man that has a lot of interesting things to say. Don't be complaining about how he's so tough on you. maybe if you stopped surfing the web & actually listened for once, you'd realize what a tard you are for wasting your college money to do something you could to do for free at home.

I wanted to be an english major, but after taking his class it thwarted me in a entirely different direction. I always got A's in english, but in his class I got a C.I always participiated in class discussions and gave him all the respect. The way he marks essays is unclear and IMPOSSIBLE to do well in. Its almost like he tries to find things wrong

This teacher never sticks to the syllabus, never teaches what he expects in his essays, and believes he is within his rights to dole out an unreasonable amount of work to his students. I pity any student signed up for Spring with this teacher.

This is a really horribl teacher and I discourage anyone from taking him. He never sticks to the syllabus, grades unfairly, and is also a ****. I am serious. You are better off crashing a class or waiting another semester to take it than taking it with him. I was always an "A" enlgish studunt, and I got a "D".

He sucks big time. I wound up having to repeat the class to get rid of the "D" he gave me. I don't know what's wrong with him, I passed the AP English exams taken in my Jr and Sr yrs in HS with a 4 (both times), but was unable to pass his beginning English class. I think he should be on academic probation. You decide.
I used to love english before taking this class. Now I am beginning to find it annoying and dreadful. Every time we have to do a paper my stomach turns. I took him because it was the only online class left. Do not repeat my mistake!
This guy is the best! If you are an English major who is looking to learn a lot about Literature, and to improve your writing skills, take him for sure. His class is hard, but he's a great guy and loves to teach. Sure he grades tough, but he also accepts any number of rough drafts so you can work for an A. I'm definitely taking him again in Spring.

The other comments in this section had me worried about taking this professor, but after the first class this teachers inthusiasm for this subject had me eating out of his hand. I am scratching my head at how unbelievable some of the posts about this teacher have been, these students should check both their pulse and thier I.Q.s. Vish is AMAZING!!!
I don't think this teacher realizes he gives more work than needed for a three credit class. The workload is more than that of a five credit one! There is tons of reading. Also on the rough drafts, he won't comment on something but on the final draft he will comment on his dissatisfaction. Reading enjoyable, not worth bad GPA :(
This professor does not communicate well, yet he grades strictly - a lethal combination for your GPA. He won't admit to this, but he requires you to agree with his interpretation of the readings on the essays. In this regard, he is oppressive. He assigns an exhorbitant amount of work. Three quarters of the class dropped. Stay away from his classes!
He is the most difficult man I've ever taken. Everything negative that you read on these posts is true. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. Unless you want to work yourself to death and only wind-up with a low grade for your effort. He will assign extensive essays on whim and give you 3 days to complete them. The literature was great but not worth it.
I took him at West L.A this fall. Please stay away!Absolutly horrible. He makes you work really hard and your grades will shock you. Nothing makes him happy. Got a C but have to re-take it again cause I don't want to transfer with a C. You don't mind working hard if you get a good grade but with him, forget it.

he is a very tough grade. i liked the class, but sometimes it was a little boring, no matter how much i tried to follow his instructions my essays weren't good enough. we had 25 people to start the class by the end it was less then 10. he is a very hard grader, i took the class as a hybrid( half online, half inclass) he was ok with late assignments
Assigned more work than could be accomplished in the semester, and then took it at a really really slow pace. Lectures are often vague and not relevant to the material at hand. Tends to digress. Really nice guy, not the best prof. Obviously knows and loves the subject, but is not very clear.
I would not recommend taking any class taught by this professor. First of all, he is very unclear regarding grades, and does not clearly explain what is to be expected on certain assignments. The class lectures consist of him rambling about some current political issue that has little or no connection with the anything being studied in class.
Yes, Mr. Vishwanadha is a very demanding teacher, but he is always available for help during office hours or online. Teachers like him raise the level of SMC. If you are looking to improve your writing skills, and strive to excel, I highly recommend him.
Anyone who imagines that thsi teacher's style increases writing skills is a moron. Vishwanada is the worst thing that has happened to SMC. He is pompous, unclear and likes to make students feel like they don't know anything. Keep away unless you enjoy being burned.
This is the most difficult man I have EVER dealt with in my life. His comments are completely unclear and vague, he refuses to let you know exactly what is expected for each assignment, yet fails you if it is not exactly to his liking. I'm not sure how anyone on here can challenge that Prof Vishwanadha is a good teacher. Teachers like this demean education and undercut the education of hard working students. Having a standing policy that no student is deserving of an 'A' grade is contemptible at best. I wouldn't recommend this class to anyone, even those gluttons for punishment.

Basically he tries to explain his assignments and they're clear, but even if you write an amazing paper he will still have something negative to say. I took him online, and he would assign things in the last minute. A lot of essays. Be ready to read about quantum physics in an english class

This teacher is the weakest of all teachers. HE assigns many essays, and no matter how hard your try- you still get D's on essays. This class is a waste of time, discouraging, and he needs to be fired. I would not reccomend this class to anyone, and it will put a damper on your english skills.
If you want to be challenged and are not afraid to go beyond your perceived limits, take this class. It is NOT easy, but you will be grateful you stayed with it. I thought that I suck at English and that I will never be able to finish it because no matter what I did in the class it was always "-" and what minus means. the next semester I took another English 1 with another teacher and got an A. so stay away !!!
He doesnot develop course content and exercises which assist you in meeting his high standards. He has only given 4 A's in 6 years(verified by SMC records). If you want an A don't take him. Most people will drop him..and get a "W" of those left most will get C's..and if he dare gives an "A"...the "A" will have its legs bent over to form a "B"
Horrible, horrible, horrible teacher. Teaches using computers and seems like his class is an online class. Besides the fact that he does not help you AT ALL, when you submit your essay and his computer system messes up and doesn't receive it, he doesn't let you resubmit it!!! In addition, he gave me a W for dropping withing the 1st 2 weeks!!
This was a challenging class, but it was worth it. He really makes you earn your grade, but makes himself available to help you succeed. He'll meet with you if you're struggling, and he usually answers email within the hour. Some students seem to have the belief that a hard class is some form of persecution.

This "professor" does not reward students who write well and work hard. Period. Hour upon hour of flawless rewrites still could not net any grade higher than a B. Meanwhile, some 19 year old airhead could spend 45 minutes on some infantile prose written in Crayola and still earn a C-. He is unrealistic for for English 1. Dropped him to keep my 4.0.

Took his online class. Extremely difficult to please, horrible at feedback. Even when you revise per his feedback he's still not happy. He gave one of my final essays a C++, who grades like that? Kept me from getting a B in the class.
Assigned an essay the very first day of class that had nothing to do with the rest of the course. A rough draft of another essay was due on the third day of class that we had. Uninteresting books, TERRIBLE workload, unfair grading. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
Taking his Shakespeare class, and I recommend that you DO NOT DO THE SAME. Class discussion is interesting if there are outspoken people to keep the conversation going. IMPOSSIBLE to get an A on the essays. No clear standard for writing essays. I'm an excellent English student, and I'm getting a C-.
WOW! Where should I start? His grading is the worst thing about him. Never will you get an A and if you are lucky to get a B it will be a B-/C+. All of his grades have a / on them. ITS HORRIBLE! First off, I've taken this class twice BUT the first time I had to drop because of schedule conflicts. I already had a bad vibe from the first time. The second time confirmed it. He has very high standards that are impossible to reach. He'll ask you questions about things you won't know HOW to answer. I had no choice but to take his class.. :[
Extreme workload, incosistant grading criteria, grading scale does not conform to SMC grading system (ex: C++ or Check -), assignments over religious holidays and official school breaks, he'll send you an email assignment on Friday night that is due on Monday, he'll waste time talking about irelevant information... - HE'S a BARRIER to education!!!
This teacher is absolutely horrible. The entire class (all of 8 people because everyone else dropped out) went to the head to complain about him. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Insane workload, unrealistic expectations, and horrible feedback (stating more detail on every single paper without explanation). Never experienced pure hatred till now.
Professor V seems difficult but is one of SMC's best. Nice personality w/a passion for teaching. He will walk you through anything you don't understand, whether it's research, note-taking, formatting, or writing. If you enjoy a challenge, take his course. I was ready to quit school this experience was so bad. I felt like I couldn't write any more after this class. He would say things like" Let me see what your opinion is" before letting me write about a topic. Gender biased! Complained to department head about him. Almost the whole class dropped out. Wait until another teacher is available!
He is challenging. A lot of reading. A tough grader and his grading are confusing. He will make the time to help you are answer any questions that you have. He teaches with a passion but most students don't see that. If you take this class you cannot slack off at all.

Horrible in my opinion. I'm a complete nerd, and I enjoy school, but I completely hate this class. I went through high school with full Honors/AP English classes, received A's in all semesters of English, but I've only managed to get one B in his class. Most people have failed. Very unrealistic expectations, very inflexible and inconsistent.
This teacher is ridicules, He grades low than dosent explain why you got a low grade, he makes deadlines than ends them early, he dosent clairfy his instructions than downgrades for things he didn't explain, he gives you random chk-grades that mean nothing, he gives you un-understandable double grades like c-/d+ theirs so much more i cant fit,AWFUL
So I decided to go ahead and take this class even with all of the negative ratings. BIG MISTAKE. "He really can't be that bad right?"....WRONG. Weekly journals, in class essays, research papers. HE can't even keep up with his own assignments. It's taking over 3 weeks for him to grade an assignment. Worst class I've ever taken in my whole life.

Barely passed his class with a C and worked harder than any other 3 unit class I've taken. It should be considered a 5 unit class. Grading system is unclear...and unfair!
I took his online class because I work a full time job. He made it impossible for me to keep up. He would assign HW mid afternoon then it would be due early in the A.M. I have to drop this class.Clearly his online class did not benefit me.No flexibility for a part time employee.
I have taken psychology, history, macroeconomics, and so many other difficult courses and this professor is nuts! Assignments posted last minute and due the next day graduing that is not well explained (Check--). I got A= in 21A and have a D/F in the class and I do all my work he asked for a 3 page essay I gave him 3.5 and he said to long.
I couldn't agree more with the last post of 9/25/12,and the one prior to that. They said everything I want to say and more. This teacher posted things last minute,and presented a unorganized syllabus,offering little to no help when asked questions.I have never in my 2 years at SMC had such a bad online experience,no online class was ever like this1

I took him for a Shakespeare class. The classroom discussions were engaging, and I enjoyed going to class. However, he is an incomprehensible grader. I fancy myself a good essay writer. On my 1st essay, I received a D-. Most of my other essays went the same way. He won't follow his syllabus. The final was unbelievably hard. Stay away, not worth it!
GET OUT NOW! Class lecture has little relevance to the work you get assigned. Its like teaching yourself. Incredibly harsh grader & not well explained (ck--) is what he mostly grades. Impossible to get an A & until I joined his class I've gotten As in eng all my life. Grades papers very late
His grading system in incredibly unclear, and he was 5 papers behind on grading after the class concluded. You will constantly have homework, weekend discussions, and in-class papers, so don't think even think about taking him unless you have plenty of time to devote to this class.
If you're reading this and choose to take the class, it's your funeral. Your GPA WILL be ruined even if you are great at writing essays. The work load is crazy, he is unclear on grading, and about 70% of the class will get a C, 27%-D, 3%- A. (But that's rare, slim to none...especially since over half the class will drop).
I took this course even after reading awful reviews, I laughed to myself thinking I wasn't afraid of a challenge. This man makes me miserable about school. I dread every assignment, every email from him, and every office visit I make to attempt to salvage my grade. HE SIMPLY DOES NOT WANT STUDENTS TO SUCCEED. He makes it impossible.
I took this class last Fall and received a D on every essay. I don't want an easy class but I also don't want to fail. Look at grade distribution less than 1% of class will get an A. Chances are NO one will get an A. That has to reflect the teacher. Getting a good grade should be obtainable, that is NOT THE CASE IN HIS CLASS. He will ruin your GPA.
He's passionate about the class, what he's not passionate about is student success. He gives multiple essays- essays as homework, in class essays during the week. Grades harshly , I have a 4.0...he ruined my GPA. DO NOT EVER TAKE! I should have just taken a different professor.
Do not get this teacher if you valor your transfer GPA because he will ruin it with a low grade. English 1 is a transfer course, he is very vague on grading. His main remark on papers is "More Details" thats it. Ask around and everyone will tell you that this guy is a horrible teacher. Very few people in his class gets an A or B. Mainly C's and D's

Interesting and fun lectures if you are really into Shakespeare and/or English. Do not take the class if you care about GPA. We were behind schedule, resulting in a ridiculous workload late in the semester. Impossible expectations on essays. Impossible to get an A; very hard to pass the class. I suggest finding a different Shakespeare class.
Very unclear on what he expects from your essays. On many of my papers he didn't include comments, just leaves a grade. His incoherence damages his students progress and GPA. His expectations are vague and very stern, which is a nasty contradiction.
Terrible teacher. I really wish I had looked at this before I took him. Took the online class because It fit my schedule since I work full time. online says arrange four hours....ummm he assigns things due almost every day and the workload is next to impossible to keep up. unclear,rude, and a difficult grader. Avoid at all costs. I dropped his online class because I can't dedicate every waking minute to it which is what you need to do to complete all of the assignments. This Teacher has a syllabus but does not follow it he made one up at the end of the semester i had to get a C+ but i got an F because he decided to change the syllabus at the last moment. Worst teacher at this school. I, like many others, ignored the warnings on here, and decided to take this class, due to my arrogance as a UCLA-admit. His grading criteria is obscure and unrealistic; you can't get higher than a C--, whatever that means. He lets you make up your own topic for an essay, then give you a D because you were off topic.
Please take all the advice here and AVOID this teacher. He takes forever to grade things, gives unreasonable amount of work and will NEVER give you an A. I don't write reviews but he is so bad I had to warn others. I don't understand why he is still working at the school! I got a B- on my first paper and then withdrew cuz other 100 papers were due!
Professor Vishwanadha is extremely intelligent , i'm quite surprised about the bad reviews. Yes , he does set a lot of homework but if you're willing to learn you can take a lot from this class. If you want to coast and learn nothing of value don't take this class however if you actually enjoy English this is the class for you.

He is very opinionated, if you do not agree with him then you are wrong. As far as grading, you think you know his criteria but you dont. For example I turned in a writing project and got 90% on the whole process, I followed all of his feedback and everything and then I received a D on the project, even though I followed his directions to the T.
Never.. Never .. Never Take him. He grades the assignment one week before the course end u never know ur grade at the starts or even the middle of the course, u just have to guess it. Not clear in his grading at all.

At first I thought it was just me who thought this professor was totally off his rocker when it came to his grading skills, rudeness and organization. Is clear in class what the assignment is and when asked questions seems to be what he is looking for then when you get the graded paper back it clearly isn't what he wanted. Lecture heavy. Tough grader doesn't do the justice for how hard he grades papers and your work. Most dropped, started off with a full class to having only 8 students.
Prof assigns an amount of work thats INSANELY disproportionate. Besides 5 official essays, there's a "Reading Log" of 12 more major writings, plus an ungraded one, for a total of EIGHTEEN long essays + weekly mini essays. Class was Myth/Lit but should be Religious Studies, as Prof enforces his own religion-based take. Great readings, awful class.
Professor Vishwanadha does assign a lot of homework and is a fairly hard grader, but if you meet with him and work hard you will get an A. He is very intelligent and you can really learn a lot from him if you do put in the work.
Didn't like his quizzes online which consisted of a times 75 min essay quiz on prompts you couldn't see until timer began. He understood when i didn't turn my assignment in on time but accepted it. If you're a solid writer and you definitely know it then this is your class but if you need help writing clearly like i do run away.
There was a lot of reading and homework but if you read and do the work, it is not difficult at all. I could have probably gotten an A if I would have put more time in on the essays. He allows you to turn them in for comments and you have 2 weeks per essay. If you aren't willing to put in the work, then you will fail. Very fair and quick responder.

This class made me question my self worth daily.
One week into this o/l class and I knew that I wasn't going get anything but(LOTS! of)busywork from this prof. The syllabus and assgnmts were unclear, and there were 3 group discussions per week with mand. 3-4 replies to people on each one. His discussions took so long that I hardly had time left to do my eng1 assgnmts, let alone my other classes.
Be ready to read a lot besides the Essays and online quizzes. He is tough grader so be prepared to follow his instructions in details and ask questions for clarification.

Wouldn't even consider him as a professor. He's bad at communicating through email and vague on the weeks' layout which are his only two jobs as an online teacher. His work is easy but he's a poor grader so try to stay on top of things. He also takes weeks to grade papers which makes it difficult to gauge where you are in the class. Don't take him.
So terrible, tough grader, no response to any email, and no chance to correct your paper. You won't even know what to do to improve
Professor Vishwanadha proofread the first drafts of all the essays I submitted for ENG1, and he gave critical and helpful feedback that helped me to earn an A in ENG 1. While it was challenging at times to accept his critical feedback, it was essential to me earning an A. I highly recommend Prof. Vishwanadha. Adapt to his feedbackan A.
I have a BA in Literature and a Masters in Ed. This class was ridiculously difficult, even for me. You have to read a book every other week, write a 3-4 page reflection every week, and participate in 3+ discussions every week and that isn't including the 5 essays you have to write. His grading doesn't seem based in any concrete scale. Avoid!
One of the hardest and worse teachers ever!! His grading is so unclear that you'll never know what grade you got on your assignments. Too many essays and too much reading. I did it - I got an A in Prof. Vishwanadha's Lit of California class. I go to a top-tier university on the east coast and fulfilled a 200 level English credit by taking this class. However, this was the most difficult English course I have ever taken in my life. He is ambiguous in what he wants and strict with what he receives. Rude, horrible.
You definitely spend a lot more hours on homework and research than the indicated weekly hours on the course. Instructions are not very specific and often are sent back for revisions with alternate instructions. Be prepared to spend at least tripple the required amount of time on this class.

English 103 online. I disliked the professor's style and approach. He gives little to no feedback, is a difficult grader, and makes no effort. Do not take a class with this guy unless you want to waste your time, money, and energy.
This professor was very difficult. What else can I say about the guy? Lots of homework, lots of reading and useless feedback. His feedback was "more detail this" more "detail that!" In one of our essays, we had to do a lot of research by using four articles, two newspaper articles, one textbook, and a government document! A GOVERNMENT DOCUMENT!!!

I just dropped his English 1 online class, as there is absolutely no information about his grading on his syllabus. Discussions, essays, portfolio are all required, but no info on what counts how many points or percentage. Hence, you will not know what your grade is until the class ends. Unacceptable.

He keeps his assignments open for 48 hours then closes them immediately after. He has every assignment on Canvas worth one point and you don't know your grade until the last day. I received an A, this is not sour grapes: He's the worst. Unacceptably bad. He provides little to no feedback on papers, and often only after weeks have passed, giving no opportunity for improvement. Professor Vishwanda should not be a professor. Why does SMC employ a teacher who has zero regard for students' learning and progress? He has zero ability to put together a comprehensive syllabus containing clear grading guidelines, zero interest in responding to questions or commenting on written work/essays. Shame on SMC.
I took him in the fall last year and it was the worst year of my life. I still have nightmares, this class stressed me out to the max, unless you want to read 24/7 and still have him give you a C don't take this class at all. I feel bad for those in quarantine struggling with this class I can just imagine how confused you must be.
Grades weeks past due date, gives tons of work, has zero interaction or feedback aside from tough grades. No real opportunity to improve when youve turned in 75% of the semester and only a couple things have been graded. Sends weekly email complaining no one is turning in work on time, yet he cant grade on time.
Everything other reviewers said is 100% true. Rude, demanding, uncaring, even in the midst of a global pandemic. Workload is overwhelming: easily 15-18hrs of reading/writing per week or you will fall behind - all for a 3 (three) credit course. Please avoid at all costs. He will make you hate literature. The worst "professor" I have even had. His feedback doesn't even make sense most of the time. You can literally answer all question correctly and he would tell you didn't. Very hard to get in contact with as well. Very sarcastic and smug with his interactions with you. Also grades very late and you are left in the dark most of the time.
Ive never seen a professor this horrible in my life! . I think I have learned more medicine than I have in English. I don't even know my grade and even when I asked him what it was, he said to wait to know after my research paper. So much homework and even the research paper is horrible. I have never had to use a government document in my life.
Stay far, far away! it isn't worth taking his classes. He is the strictest grader I have ever seen he doesn't give clear instructions and expects you to write at a Ph.D. level he doesn't care if it's your first time taking English. It's a shame that SMC employs such people he should be allowed to teach and trust me I'm not exaggerating.

I do not recommend taking this class at all if writing is your weakness. His grading system does not make sense some of my papers had like 3 letter grades. Also, you do not know your grade throughout the semester. His class requires a lot of time from you in which if you have all the time in the world then this is for you.
This professor is the RUDEST and worst I have ever encountered. For such a basic class, he complicates EVERYTHING. His grading makes no sense, essays are timed and expected to have evidence with only 60 mins to do so. I have NEVER received anything less than a B+ in English and I only got Fs here. I dropped this class ASAP and you should too.

I took Professor Hari's English 15 on Shakespeare, what a treat it was! Every lecture was inspirational but clear, Shakespeare becomes Shakescleare! Professor Hari is a serious thinker who loves literature and his lectures reflect that. Show up, do the 4 papers, participate in weekly online discussions, that's about it. Take it!
Loved this class. Hated this class. Every human emotion possible. I began this class believing I was a great writer - then I got Cs. But Vish supportively gave constructive feedback. I took it to heart. My grades improved, and he weighed the newer papers higher. If you want to improve your writing, read cool lit, & lose some sleep, take this class

I was on the honor roll since 1st grade, never got less than an A in English. I got a B, but worked my butt off for it. To say hes a tough grader is putting it mildly. Lots of papers, 2 research papers that were incredibly daunting. But the books were pretty awesome. Definitely cool literature and interesting topics for papers and discussions.
Please do yourselves a favor and AVOID Vishwandha's classes. His online classes are geared towards terrorizing students; they resemble entering a rabbit hole with no way out, and once class ends you are left bruised and battered. You won't learn anything but one notion: this man shouldn't be a teacher.

I cant even put into words how disheartening it is to have a professor who makes it nearly impossible to ever achieve an A in his class. Too long winded and confusing, clarifying questions make me more confused. Very vague essay prompts, and you have to meet with him outside of class to ask about them. Weekly timed writes, many discussion posts. Very tough grader, but I can rarely find a rubric. I almost always had an A in english, this is my first C. Don't take him.
Smartest decision I made in this class was to drop it and save my GPA. There was no way to even guess what your grade might be on a given assignment because it just seems so random. The comments don't help at all and if anything just make you more confused.
I had an online course with Prof. Vishwanadha. He has no idea how to use Canvas and it is impossible to contact him. His email is not listed anywhere and I had to investigate on google to find his email. He has horrible English and uses terrible grammar. You have no idea what your grade is till it's on the transcript. No syllabus. Wrong due dates.
The grade you have is unknown till the last day. No syllabus, due dates are wrong, and grading is tough and unclear. Assignments have very unclear and vague guidelines which leave him to grade everything below a C. Spent hours on essays and peppers and never received anything above a C. Language barrier/Unclear English. Bad at Canvas.
No sympathy, stay away from this man. Tough grader, unclear instructions, and guidelines for the course. Follow absolutely everything in the rubric and instructions you won't get anything above a C. You have to zoom call him everyday to get anything above a C on an assignment. Don't know your grade till the last day, it's a mystery the entire time.
Probably the worst professor I've ever had at SMC. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES! it's not worth it.
I thought I was a good writer b4 this class. Never got less than an A, then he dropped a F on me my first paper. U can't take this class if ur going to be asking URSELF y ur not doing good, ASK HIM! Talk to him and he will meet with u at any time. His criticisms all make sense. Take if u want to learn, he will change the way u write for the better.
I simply don't understand why this man is a teacher. No clear instruction, no clear grading, no clear advice. Everything's way too confusing. It's truly alarming! You have to reach out way too much and beg for him to teach you something. He makes it impossible for you to progress. Do yourself a favor and choose another teacher.

I got this dude for my first time in college full-time and got my first C. You don't know you're grade until the very last minute possible. I kept getting low grades on my papers and even when I would ask him what I could do differently, he would either not respond or just say (vaguely) to "fix it". He's also a bit snappy when you ask questions.
I had enrolled late with him as the only option. He's passionate about what he does and I do think he does care about succeeding. However, he's a terrible teacher. Non-stop essays, research papers, and reading. I barely had time for my other classes because his homework took all of my spare time. AP Calc was 100x easier than this.
If I could, I would rate him a 0. I am an 11th grade homeschooler and he was AWFUL. Numerous complex essays with only 70 minutes to review, read, and write. Didn't tell me I was failing until the last 4 weeks of the semester. He said the NATIONAL LIBRARY OF MEDICINE was an unreliable source. I had a 4.45 gpa, first fail. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Vishwanadha's class is no walk in the park - expect a challenging curriculum and tough grading. But if you engage with the material and utilize study tools like unstuckstudy ai, you can excel. The workload is heavy, but the content is worthwhile.
