Reasonable teacher. Attended East Coast university in Michigan. For a Jr. College professor, he's pretty good.

Harish is an awesome teacher...his lectures are fun! He is very clear in what he expects from his studetns...doesn't grade hard at all, I took this class in the intersession and it still wasn't that hard...Very fun teacher...I would recommend any class he is teaching!

i loved being in harish's class. i dreaded having to take COMM101, but he made it fun and it wasn't that bad giving speeches in front of everyone. he's a really nice guy and easy to get along with. if i had to take the class over again...i would definitely pick him as my teacher.

This guy is hilarious!Yes, he is a smart-ass but so am I!!I never sat in that class without lauhging at least twice during a session. Not to mention he is kind of hot if you like the short, bald, coke-bottle glasses wearing type!But serioulsy he is an excellent instructor and he gives you guidelines for each speech. This class helped me alot.

Hands down the best speech teacher. He makes the class a lot of fun. We did not go through one class without laughing. He has good jokes and funny stories. He makes everyone in the class participate, and he isn't harsh about it so we do. The speeches were interesting and fun. If I needed another class of his, I would definitely take it.

One of the best teachers i have had so far! He is hilarious! makes a class that would normally be boring become one of the more fun ones :) Although can kind of be a sarcastic ass (mostly cause I talk too much haha) he's a likeable sarcastic ass. Easy class. I was terrified to speak in front of the class, but the atmosphere of the class and teacher made it easy and you get to know your classmates which helps alot. Test were very easy and as long as you practice the speeches you'll do good.

Harish is halarious. He is very sarcastic, but in a funyn way which the whole class can enjoy. He helps break the ice between classmates so that public speaking is easier. He grades a little hard on speeches though. Try to get a book with included cds, they are nice for reviewing for the midterm and final.

This guy is awesome. You should make every attempt to get into this class. Just show up to class on time, do what he tells you to do, and you shouldn't have any problem getting AT LEAST a 'B'. I got an 'A', and I just checked out the book at the library a couple times. I was a little nervous about this class, but Harish made it as easy as possible.

He makes everything very clear in the beginning, you follow it and you'll do fine. He is awesome and such a great instructor. We are really lucky to have him on our campus. But if you want an A, you'll work hard for it. When the semester is over, you are one level up in writing and communication!

Was a difficult subject for me. I was thinking I was gonna fail. I don't know if he took into consideration that I had done all my speeches, assignments, and hadn't missed any class. I'm so glade to have passed. This teacher knows his material! No teacher is better. Thanks Harish!

Professor Rao is unpredictable at first, you have to get to know his personality.He comes across very strict the first couple weeks of class but then his teddy bear side takes over and he wants the class to do well with the speechs.Alot of reading assigned and you need to study for the exams, but overall I would take this teacher.

I took Harish about 2 semesters ago and he was awesome! At first I was a total mess with my speeches, I was a shaking leaf but he tells you exactly what he expects and it makes it a lot easier to get up there. Also he is funny and I sort of think he's hot. He dresses good and is buff & sometimes i'd just catch myself daydreaming about him...Lol!

HOT - NOT. Only if you are into 5.2, fat, bald men who are stuck on themselves. Gets along with most 'rejects' but has no TRUE discipline in his classroom and his ethics are less that respectable. Grade is easy; text book not needed; not recommended.

Good teacher to have. It is not a hard class to pass at all. ONly used the book for the Midterms and the Finals. He is very clear on what he wants in our speeches, so speech should not be hard at all. If you really want an A, make sure you practice your speech because not too many people get A's on their speech. Take this teacher again.

If you're a person who follows format, you should have no problem with this class. If you practice an OK amount, you should do well (if you write well). I got an A. Minimal studying required for the midterm/final if you have a decent memory and/or common sense. Get on his good side by speaking up in class if you're a quiet person.

Ok let me start off by saying I hated this class but loved the teacher. Harish is honestly the best and most understanding teacher i've come across, some people take advantage of that. I changed my major to communication studies because he inspired me so. If you take initiative he will see that. I'm so sad that this was my last class with him.

I never took notes in his class after the first test because he gives you a study guide. Take that home and look at the book for everything on it and you should get an A on every test. As long as you follow his direction on the speeches he grades nicely. He may look angry when he lectures but he's actually a nice person and cares. Highly recommend!

Professor Rao, is awesome! Hes understanding, not an easy grader but definitely makes class time go by ridiculously fast and just a bonus, hes easy on the eyes. Would definitely take again if I need to take COMM 103, or even 101 again. Amazing teacher, will definitely benefit you and your speaking skills. Class is not hard AT ALL but you will learn. YOU DONT NEED THE TEXTBOOK. All you need it for is to study for the final, which you can borrow in the Library. But he usually goes over everything.

To make it simple, the highest grade in the class was a "B," I was amongst those that got this grade. Everyone else received the same or lower. You are expected to be perfect while speaking, and you will need to buy a poster or two during the class for one of the assignments.

One of the best, most fair, and absolutely clear teachers ever. He is very straight forward and logical, but won't grade harshly. He updates his syllabus if a major change is made and provides you with everything you need. You have to be really incompetent to not pass his class.

Tough grader but a great teacher! If you want to learn take him! A's aren't easy but if you're a good student it's reachable. Attendance is a must! Oral interpretation was NOT what I expected. It's like acting, without the props, costumes, and movement. Harish made the environment in the class fun, but you HAVE to read the textbook in order to fully understand how both grading AND performances work, which is something most of us didn't do. Read - and you will succeed!

Harish Rao is literally my favorite professor I've ever had. I took 4 of his classes at AVC and I'm so happy I did. He is a tough grader because he wants you to learn and do well. One of the best professors I've ever had at AVC. He is hilarious and every class period was super fun and entertaining. He is very genuine and straight forward. Do what he asks and you'll pass the class. For tests, be sure to skim over the assigned reading. You don't have to do all the reading he assigns but skim through the book. 10/10 recommend

Coming from someone with social anxiety Harish went a long way at making comms less nightmarish to me. He genuinely made the class easier to attend and ended up being the one I most looked forward to that semester. He's very normal, funny, straightforward and INCREDIBLY transparent (in a good way) with how he runs things.

He is a very tough grader but there is midterm and final my suggestions are you read all the chapters in the textbook because all the tests on the study guide are straight for the textbook.

Harish is a really helpful professor and has a very straight forward system. It is best to not miss any lectures because they are helpful and he doesn't assign any homework other than the speeches. Not only is Harish hilarious, he gives thorough, clear examples of what is expected of you in your speeches and does it in a way that keeps you engaged. COMM101 with Harish isn't just another filler class because you're actually going to learn from it. I'm still terrified of public speaking, but after COMM101 I actually feel like I can manage it.

Professor Rao is an amazing professor. He is an expert in the communication Studies field and loves what he does. Class is so much fun and his lectures are never boring. 2 group projects, 2 reflection papers, 2 presentations, 4 exams and extra credit.

I get bad speech anxiety, I get so nervous and forget my lines, but as long as you put 110% effort, I think he takes it easy on the nervous ones. Not sure of my grade yet but he made class enjoyable. Throws in light humor, some personal anecdotes, a very enjoyable class. I learned a lot. Im a lot less anxious too. such a great professor, 1000/10.

I am not the best public speaker but had to take a communications class for my degree and am so glad I got it with Harish!! He is a great professor who understands that public speaking can be difficult but also helps us out of our shells. He made the Zoom situation work really well and has a great sense of humor as well. Overall good teacher, definitely different but knows his stuff. He provided an electronic version of the book for us. Has really great study material. Quizzes were open book. He dislikes a lot of weird things and is very quick to express his concern for you if you like green bell peppers.

Took him in Spring 2021. Great professor, there's a total of 4 speeches that aren't so bad. Just PRACTICE and be well prepared for them and you'll be fine. He understands that public speaking can be intimidating so he tries to help us as much as possible and gives great feedback and tips to make your speeches better.

Professor Rao is an awesome teacher, I actually thought I was going to get a C because I'm not a public speaker. With listening to the professor I bettered my speaking skills. the class is full of speeches. I took the class during COVID. extra credit is if you show up to all speech days. overall I recommend Professor Rao

Good professor. We have to do 4 speeches which can be difficult and takes a lot of preparation. He is really funny though and makes class enjoyable.

Harish is a great professor. I had taken Rivas and dropped him and Thank God I did. Harish was an actual professor that knows his stuff. It's Communications so be ready to do 4 speeches and 2 outlines but really well explained and easy to follow if you pay attention.

Really great professor for teaching communications. I had pretty bad anxiety presenting in front of an audience, but Professor Rao made it so that I felt comfortable doing so. I can confidently say that it really did help since now I can present without feeling so nervous. He goes over material very well and makes sure to go into detail.

im not sure if theres a better choice for comm than Harish. came into this class with the worst public speaking anxiety, and came out mildly better at it. he made things easy and comfortable. the speeches get easier over time with practice.

He is a great choice for comm 101 at AVC. He is very clear with his instructions and assignments. He gives you a full rubric on how you did on speeches, ranging from poor to superior. I'd have to say, he is kind of a tough grader. Don't expect perfect scores on your speeches. But overall, I think he's one of the best to choose from.

This professor is a very easy person to talk to he gives good feedback on his speeches and grades fairly. Best class I took.

I don't like speaking in front of an audience at all but this guy made it really easy. If you don't understand what's coming from the assignment he'll try to explain it the best way he can. And if you feel uncomfortable he'll try telling a joke to make you feel better. Very easy class as well.

Great Professor, straight forward and lists what to do and what not to do. He is somewhat funny during his lectures and will give you enough time for upcoming speeches. He provides good feedback and lectures. Just put in the work in your speeches and sources and you will be good to pass with an A. Great for first time speakers.

Professor Rao was straight up with what was required in his class. Class would be interesting as well as all the speech topics you do. Overall recommend taking him!

Professor Harish, is very accessible and understanding, he is a total gem, very helpful, will help with breaking your stage fright for sure. All assignments are very good not crazy hard. I totally recommend him! Exams have been open book and everything you read is on his quizzes/tests.

I took this professor Spring 2022. By far my favorite class I've ever taken. He is very clear in what he wants in his speeches and outlines. All tests are based off the textbook. Will give you plenty of opportunity to get an A+, the only reason you wouldn't is if you're not following his specific criteria. Overall very funny and chill professor.

I took his class last semester and if you are looking to take this class go for it he is a great professor and his workload is not that heavy and the speeches are very easy if you do the assignments leading up to it to be able to plan them out. He also gives very good feedback on speeches and lightens up the class.

Prof. Rao can be a bit harsh on grading outlines, but otherwise the speeches themselves weren't exceptionally hard, just don't wait too long to start on them. He gives extra credit at the end of the semester for being present on speech days. All tests are open book/open note. Just try to follow the speech guidelines to a T and you'll do fine :)

He was cool, his grading was a bit rough. Just take the class in person he would like you a lot more and pay attention during lectures he hates repeating himself. Overall good.

Harish is a great professor overall for his love of teaching the subject. He cares about the course and it shows! However, because of this, he may grade a bit more strict than others though I have no personal comparison. Overall not difficult but if you just want to skate through and procrastinate, you may end up with a low grade.

There is never a dull class with professor Rao. There were times in his class where I had tears in my eyes from laughing, and the time always flew by. Public speaking is not as bad as I expected it to be, and I cannot thank my professor enough for all of the encouragement and support.

Grades pretty tough to be able to get an A. I did theater in high school and it definitely helped but he seemed to grade tough. He was an awesome professor and his lectures were always entertaining. Our speaking days were great because we got to talk about topics that we were passionate about. Awesome guy and was really helpful navigating college.

He's a great professor, pretty funny too, and has a dry/deadpan type of humor. He's only a harsh grader if you're shooting for an A, no reason you shouldn't be able to pull a B though. He gives you lots of examples. Quizzes are online and not too hard, and his speech grading criteria is very clear. You also get points for showing up to speech days.

This guy will prepare you for plenty of real-life organizational group work. The work was not to be taken lightly, but it was so fun to participate in. Pro tip for the team chapter presentation & the major group project event, DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE! Make this class as enjoyable and as useful as possible. Loved COMM109, I recommend him.

If you are looking for a COMM101 class, take Harish! We had 5 speeches. The quizzes are fairly simple, but there is one where u gotta know alot of names [STUDY]. He gives good feedback after every speech and also goes over his rubric before hand. As long as you practice ur speech and truly get it down, you'll be good!

The textbook is provided for free!! I HATE public speaking, but this class made me feel more comfortable with it. If you're a perfectionist, accept you'll never receive a perfect grade, but as long as you follow all the criteria, which isn't a lot, you'll get a good grade. Additionally, he's very funny and nice. So if he looks angry, he's not lol.

Best comms teacher I've ever had! He is so caring and want you to do well! He gives not one but two closing dates for tests and is flexible with late assignments! He understand students have a life outside of school and makes it as easy as possible for everyone! As long as you do the tests and practice your speeches, you will no doubt pass!

Great teacher. I highly recommend. If you are not comfortable talking in front of people do not take. Make sure you do the readings. Has the whole semester on Canvas. Make sure you keep up. The book is online and free.

This was one of my most fun classes so far at this college. He is so funny and the work is easy to complete if you actually pay attention and follow the rubric given to you. Don't worry about the textbook cause he provides a free online one

Harish is a great professor to take if you really are trying to get better at your communication skills. He makes the class participate in talking and you would barely get bored during his lectures. The presentations are the hardest part of the course where you need to be prepared in order to get an A. Great guy and I would recommend him.

Harish is an incredible professor. He is very witty and easy to listen to. Lectures were never tiring. Speeches make up most of your grade, but you get to pick your topics yourself. You will have to get up in front of the class and speak, but there are in-class exercises to prepare you for your speeches. Very fun class!!

Harish is a very laid back professor. He made public speaking easy and helped the class feel connected with fun questions at the start of class. His expectations for each speech are clear and he provides options for help if you're struggling with anything. No homework besides having to prepare for any upcoming speeches and the occasional test.

Harish Rao is an excellent COMM101 professor! I was nervous about speaking in front of others, but after the first speech, it got much easier. He creates a supportive classroom environment, making the other speeches less stressful. You'll have 5 speeches, but as long as you follow the outlines, they're manageable. Highly recommend him—YOU GOT THIS!

He is a little fast-paced and expects everybody to be as consistent as possible. It's really hard to focus on some speeches correctly and firmly.

This was my favorite class this semester. I felt more comfortable in this class then any of my other classes. Explained everything very clearly. 10/10 no notes.

The class structure was really easy to follow and the only real work were the speeches. You get lots of time to prepare for each speech but I did them the night before every time without fail and managed to get an A in the class. Just participate and you'll pass easily, he understands people aren't perfect and is accommodating.

Funny, chill professor. We did five speeches: one personal story, demonstration, informative, persuasive, and commemorative. A decent grade requires considerable effort on speeches, which make up a large part of your grade. There are 5 quizzes: 4 about the book and 1 about memorizing 20 classmates' names. Lots of group and in-class exercises.

After taking his class, I can see why Professor Rao (or Harish, as he asks you to call him) is everyone's favorite professor at AVC. Everyone *will* actively participate in this class, whether you like it or not. There are more activities than mere lectures, which helped me overcome my inhibitions about speaking in front of a class. 100% recommend!

I recommend this class for Deaf people. He is glad to work with you and gives accommodations when you ask. He is understanding and makes sure you have what you need to succeed. If you want a professor who respects Deaf students, take PSY 101 with Harish Rao.

I just finished my last day of class from him , & he is absolutely an amazing professor ! He's very excellent with working around with you when it comes to like serious issues , & will definitely update you on the speech days if you miss sign ups for speeches ! He's very funny , his feedback is top tier , & cares about his students.

If you want an easy A do not take this class, even he said most people get B's. He's funny and a cool guy no doubt you will have a great time in his class if you enjoy the presence of others. His grading is fair, as not everyone gets an A as it should be. HATES when you're late.
