great teacher for accounting. he tries to make it easy.
He tried to make the class easy by curving a ton. He wasn't very helpful besides that. The way he said Cash is really annoying. You will see if you take his class.
He's the reason I decided to drop accounting as my major. The only reason I passed the class is b/c he curved the test a ton and the reason he did that is b/c every1 failed it. When every1 failes a test that should tell you something about your teaching.
He goes really fast and basically just does problems, he also says cayshe instead of cash. He can be funny at times. The trick to this class is know how to do the assigned HW w/o help. He offers high curves and sometimes let you correct your tests mistakes for half the points.
Accounting classes are hard no matter who you have, but Fuller is a good professor to take. Huge curves on tests and the final is on file at the library!
If you have to take Accounting, definately take it with him. He explains things well, and is always willing to help. Accounting is a tough class at ISU and I would definately recommend taking it with Fuller.

Harlan was a good teacher only because he had big curves and graded fairly easy. He says cash very weird, but I'll take that in exchange for a couple curves on the tests.
Hes a good teacher and tries to make things as clear as possible. His tests can be pretty tough. There isn't much mandatory homework and the quizes aren't too hard if you attend class regularly. Doing the optional homework will help you a lot (so you will definately need the book).
most boring man alive. If he didn't curve his tests, I don't know anyone would ever have a chance.

The class in general is hard, but I would take it w/this teacher. He curves his tests, which is a big plus. He does his best at explaining the material and he'll answer any question you have.
good guy, curves tests, extra credit opps, helpful, very knowledgable, kinda boring. id take more classes with him for sure. you will never want to hear the word CASH (or should i say "cayyysh") again in your life though!
GREAT teacher, i highly recommend if you are taking ACC 131 to take it with him. He is easy to approach and will answer your questions. Does a great job explaining material also! Take him!
Way easier than Charlie Thomas. He actually wants his students to succeed and pass his class. Very easy to do well in his class, and I actually don't fear accounting anymore!
I had Fuller for both acc, and overall, he was a good teacher. 131 is a hard subject for some, but he does well trying to teach it. He has big curves on his tests, but his lectures are extremely boring. I would recommend him, but I dont know how the other accounting teachers are. Take notes and do the homework and you should get a at least a B.
acc is a hard subject and fuller could not make students understand it. He curves his tests because everyone does so poorly on them. He doesnt care about students and is very boring.
Really a decent guy- kind of weird. Hard but fair-he really wants you to pass the class. Accounting is hard but he is pretty clear and always available in office hours. He usually curves the test, although they can be difficult. I have heard he is one of the best of the accounting teachers
This guy is really boring... a typical class with him consists of him reading the notes fast and going through the homework faster... he doesn't "teach" anything at all. You need to learn everything from reading the book and tutors. Good luck with this one...
Definitely agree with most of what people have said. You really do teach yourself in this class. He just does the homework problems for you; he doesn't teach anything. Nice guy, horrible teacher. Hint: Use online supplements on publisher's website to study up for tests. This is the most helpful.
You don't have to go to every class bc he spends a day doing homework problems and a day taking notes which he always saves to the U-Drive. His tests are harder than what he teaches, but basically just gives points away all the time. Easy to get a B in his class, even while not doing too well on tests.
Can get a B with a little work. You really do teach yourself. He is really nice but he just isn't a very good teacher when it comes to lecturing.
Very good teacher, knows alot and explains things clearly, tests are relatively easy, I didn't take notes/homework because he puts them all online, bombed the first test and still came out with a B. Taking him again for acc 132 because he makes it easy, even though the class is at 8 in the morning!! And he gives take-home quizzes!!
I hated this class. I felt like I wasn't taught anything and left completely on my own to learn the material. He's a nice guy, but his teaching isn't that great. The exams were really hard, in my opinoin, and the homework didn't help me. He only lecture (really fast) and goes over homework. Occasionally random quizes. Take another teacher if can
accounting is a hard subject...if u have no idea of whats going on, u gotta teach urself from the book...lectures are boring, take home quizzes, tests not too hard, but the final is brutal...id recommend him over the other acc131 profs....someimes i wonder who hires them?!
He made this class way more difficult then what it needs to be. You have to teach yourself and the exams are a lot more difficult then the homework problems. He was not too helpful. I think it is better to look for a different teacher for cost accounting then this one.
Good Teacher and nice guy. If you go to class and pay attention should be able to pick up the material. If not there is always the Accounting Lab. I will be taking him again for Acc 132
He is a terrible teacher. He does not explain anything. Only class I have ever failed and probably will ever fail. Tests were impossible and he did not teach me a single thing the entire semester. Worst teacher ever.
tests were way harder than homework. no matter how many review problems i did before the test, there were always twists. very tricky, and he doesn't teach material at all. all he does is go over the optional homework assignments. you basically have to teach yourself from the book.
This is the worst teacher I have ever had. He puts all the material on Excel so if you want the notes you have to print off a hundred pages. Test question are nothing like the book examples that he tells you to study.
All he really does is go over the homework. attendence is not manadtory, but suggested if you want to understand material. His tests are a LOT easier then the other accounting teachers (i had to retake 131) he isn't all that horrible. you get quizzes but you rarely have to do them by yourself.
Fuller knows what he's talking about. He's brilliant and works first hand with the material daily. The way he presents notes is very unorganized and hard to follow; he flies through them. The tests were pretty hard; his wording is tricky--not at all like what's in the book. Overall though, he's a really great person and a pretty good professor.
class is pretty boring but i would bet he is better then most other professors for this class
Harlan just really doesn't know how to teach this class effectively. Every single day, he gets on excel and copies notes/homework from the book. Tests are always harder than homework (he adds special sections). You will have to put in extra effort/time to get an A or B. I would not recommend this teacher if you can find better.
His teaching methods are a little disorganized - Just follow the book and you'll be fine. He's better than EVIL DAWSON, so I would take him over her ANY day.
Attendance wasn't mandatory but he gave pop quizzes (which a lot of the time he gave you the answers!) so easy points if you go.
Fuller is a nice guy and knows his stuff but the only way I stayed awake in his class was by chugging Mt. Dew. All we did was go over homework problems the entire class period every single day. Thank god for his grad assistant!
Awful teacher....very very mono-toned...I was going to be an Accounting major and ended up changing because of this class...he does notes on Excel and is very disorganized..boring this class is boring.I found it very difficult and I even went to the tutors often.the tests are some multiple choice and working problems..don't take it with him!
Class is almost pointless to go to since all of the notes are put into an Excel spreadsheet and posted on the U-drive. The only reason you need to go to class is because the quizzes are unannounced. He gives ec for the quizzes though. Overall, I thought the class was okay.
Decent class, but if you had charlie for 131 you can notice the teaching style difference. he is very disorganized and i didn't like the way he presented his notes. The one good thing about his notes is that they were online. Make sure you STUDY for these tests, the M.C. Q's are tough but the problems are pretty basic if u know the material.
terrible class. he has the most annoying accent-- 9 is prnounced nyyyyyyyne. tests are extremely hard and you have to teach yourself from the book. the book is realllllyyyy boring too. pop quizes are not fun.
I wish he would tell us what was on the tests, or give us study guides or something.. Its like running naked, backwards through a cornfield on test days
This is my second time taking this class. I failed last semester, and I have NEVER failed a class before. If you don't understand the material you'll need to get a tutor. MC ?'s for test are ridiculous. He's a nice guy but does not "teach"... he just types his notes in excel which he posts online...
he obviously failed as a CPA
This may be Fuller's first time teach this class. He has no idea what it going on. His notes are more confusing than reading hieroglypics. He gets corrected by a student on everything he does. I honestly don't think he would pass his own test. That's seriously not a joke. His tests are ridiculous. The problems are like nothing we have dont in class
Harlan sets a high standard for his students. He expects everyone to be preparing for the CMA. As such, his exams are very difficult. If you do the homework ahead of class, you can ask him about anything in the chapter. He is willing to spend a few minutes during class for questions. The exams reflect the homework.
I never thought all the negative comments were true but be forewarned: they are. I foolishly decided I could deal with it but it's just ridiculous. He makes so many mistakes it's not funny. I'm going to start counting how many times he gets corrected by students. Forget about explaining anything; apparently you're supposed to know it yourself.
DO NOT TAKE ACC WITH HARLAN! Terrible teacher, impossible notes, incredibly boring. Not to mention you will cringe every time he says "keiysh" (its pronounced CASH Harlan!!!)
I hated this class. He is really boring and just writes on excel the whole time! it sucks! If you aren't good at accounting i suggest a tutor ASAP! not easy... try not to take him if you can
He is by far the worst teacher i have had his notes dont make any sense and his tests are rediculously hard. if you can take a different teacher do it !!
Can teach OK but hardest grader in the world.
Definitely the worst teacher I have ever had at any level. He goes through the material way too fast and the tests are way harder than the homework. If ACC 131 is not required for your major you better not take it. He is very boring and hard to listen to. I could go on all day with negative comments.
I thought he was a good teacher. If your an accounting major, he will prepare you for the next level classes. However, if you have a different major I would recommend another professor.
worst ever. ever!!!
worstttttt teacher ever!! If you are not an accounting major do not take him! you will be teaching yourself the whole time! he does curve tests but they are so hard and no one passes them!!!!!! everyone can agreee
I'm an accounting major and he was a good teacher. He was challenging, but if you are an accounting major it helps a ton in the long run. The tests are difficult but not by any means impossible. You HAVE to come to class in order to do well. He gives detailed notes during class even if they are boring.
worstttttt teacher ever!! If you are not an accounting major do not take him! you will be teaching yourself the whole time! he does curve tests but they are so hard and no one passes them!!!!!! everyone can agreee
Like everyone else had said do not take him if you are not an accounting major! The guy is probably a great accountant but he has NO teaching ability at all. The entire semester he stood at the front of the class and typed problems into excel and expected you to know them.
I have never hated a class and instructor more in my entire life. He doesn't TEACH during class, he just DOES things and expects you to understand how he came to that conclusion. He uses absolutely no classroom participation to help students understand concepts and has to curve his tests by at least 10 points because of such low scores.
Harlan Fuller is an excellent teacher. His exams are hard, but if you know how to do all of the exercises without looking back in the book or notes, you will be fine. He wants his students to develop good study habits for his class and he definitely helped me with that, which is one reason why I decided to take him for 132 after his 131 class.
all i have to say is wow, this is the worst professor i have ever had. he is word for word the teacher from feris bulers day off.He smart but cant tech at all, everything is written out on a blank page for accounting that's hard. Don't take him im in his class currently and just took his test 2 and im in trouble ihave to teach myself everything.
Worst professor I have ever had. In his lectures he does the problems from the book on overhead without telling you why and how he is doing them. He tells you certain things wouldn't be on the test that actually are. Homework is only worth 50 points out of almost 500.
Harlan lectures the entire class which makes it hard to pick up what hes trying to teach. Tests are only hard if you dont study and dont go to class. if you do the online homework it teachs you how to do the problems on the test. also review the chapters and youll be fine. He also curves tests and 16 possible points for extra credit that help.
I found this class is easy if you go to cllass, do Aplia online, do book questions and review notes afterward. You will have no problems to get a A out of it. His regular exams are just base on book exercise. Also, do the extra points. If you study well along the way you will BE FINE. I am thinking to take his tax income class as well.
Never have him as a teacher.
he shows absolutely no emotion and just stands there and reads through as he types the notes. He doesnt explain how he got the answer or anything. BUY THE BOOK, he gives the option for the online version, but it is not as helpful. The tests are impossible and very broad. he basically just gives a blank piece of paper with a 1 sentence problem.
Fuller has a very dry sense of humor, but if you appreciate that he interjects interesting stories about local businesses and humorous anecdotes throughout his lectures. The tests are very straightforward if you go to class and do the homework and online exercises. As with many classes if you put in the work you will get an A.
The class is a very hard class, it's meant to be the business weed out class. Fuller is very helpful and does a good job of explaining things. If you go to class every day and take notes and review them before the tests you will be fine. During office hours he is very helpful as well. Lastly he offers extra credit and curves every test.
He inspired me to major in accounting. He knows his stuff and you'll learn A LOT if you take him.
I dont know why everyone bashes this guy. Yes, hes extremely challenging, but if you go to class and ask questions he gives you a thorough explanation. I came into this class hating accounting, but came out considering majoring in it. Tests are very straight forward if you study and do aplia
Not the easiest teacher but if you go to class and do the practice problems he gives you you'll be fine. He curves all the tests and has extra credit. People who complain about the class are people who never go to class and only show up on test days
absolutely useless as a teacher, he stands there and gives a slight overview of the chapter. I have had to teach myself everything from the book. its pointless going to class. The tests are straightforward and if you know the material youll get an A
He IS NOT Helpful at all. He just doesn't care about students.
I had no trouble understanding any of the material, and I did well in his class, but he is not approachable at all. If anyone asked questions or answered a question wrong in class he responded in a way that made them feel stupid. The result is no one asks questions or participates, even if they need to. He curves all of his tests.
He just uses excel and expects you to learn from that instead of explaining. His exams are also crazy. He doesn't tell you what to study and doesn't give you an idea what it will look like. He's very strong on the concepts though. Don't just memorize the financial statements. Actually fully understand them. He's not approachable at all.
Hard class but ultimately if you put in the effort you should be able to get at least a B, maybe even an A. Offers extra credit, and the tests were relatively straight forward if you practiced his book problems. Final was the easiest test. Fuller is a nice enough guy, had some good conversations with him. Allowed us all to redo one test for half
Fuller is the worst accounting teacher at ISU. He literally reads off excel word by word and doesn't teach you anything. Oh and good luck on the tests the material has nothing to do with Wiley/HW. Get ready to learn all this by yourself.
DO NOT TAKE FULLER IF POSSIBLE. He goes over the notes (which is only a list on Excel) line by line as if everything is already understood. Hardly can even say he "explains" the practice problems. Tells you to go to the tutoring center for help. IMO - avoid him
Terrible teacher, doesn't explain anything. Useless to go to class as all he does is read off the excel notes he posts online. Notes are useless. Get ready to teach yourself. Tests are rough even if you study like no other. He makes you feel stupid for correcting one of his many mistakes. Avoid at all costs.
Normally an A student, studied 20+ hours for tests and barely got C's on them. Doesn't care about students at all, doesn't give you any clues on the setups of the testsfinal will be. blows by everything and doesn't explain anything, and don't incorrectly answer anything because he humiliate you in front of the class. DO NOT TAKE HIM IF POSSIBLE!
His lectures are completely pointless to go to. He reads off his excel documents of notes and doesn't help clarify or explain them even if you ask. I tried going to his office hours and he told me to I had all the resources I needed and was absolute no help. Not that it matter but he was cutting his nails on his desk when I walked in to his office.
I took him for ACC 231 and now 232. The class easy? No, but it is a 200 level accounting course so that should be expected. The first semester I was always behind playing catch up and ended up with a B. Should get an A this time. You have to study, read, and stay on top of things. If you try and wing it.. your screwed! You get the grade you deserve
People are too hard on him. He is a good guy and teacher. If you review his lecture notes and make sure you read the chapter you will perform well. Understanding the material is important. If everyone bombs a test he usually gives a little curve to help. If you fail his class you should switch majors, its only intermediate accounting!
Although this class is super tough I would take him again if I had to. He's actually super nice and funny and if you go to him for help he will explain things to you. He also throws curves on the test and takes responsibility if he puts something on the test that everyone didn't know how to do. You have to work to get a good grade. Thats college.
Prof. Fuller is a great teacher. Do not listen to anyone who rates him bad. He provides you everything you need to get an A in the class, but makes you work for it. Just don't wait till the night before to study like everyone else and you should be fine. He is also funny, easy to talk to, knows the material, and helpful during office hours.
I hope you are good at teaching yourself. He is the most unorganized and non-repsonsive teacher I've had in college, and he absolutely snips at any questions asked. He offers no insight to what the tests will be like, and the tests are completely different than the problems listed in the book or given by him. Good luck.
He clearly knows what he is teaching and is very knowledgeable. Material is tough and a lot extra studying is needed if you want to do well. All of his notes are on a spreadsheet and he just reads through them without actually working with the class through examples. If you are willing to do a lot of studying then you should be able to do well
Excellent professor, provides everything you need to do well. Study the example problems he goes over in class as they're way harder than anything you'll see on the exams. Hardly any homework and he's very very helpful when I go to his office and ask for help. He's got a dry sense of humor but I find him hilarious
One of the worst teachers I have had. He goes off on rants about stuff that doesn't have to do with accounting and just reads the notes off of the spreadsheet. Class is a joke because he posts the notes online so basically if you read then on your own its the same as listening to him read them. Doesnt explain any of the hw problems
This class is one of the harder classes I've taken at ISU, mainly because I don't think Fuller is a very good teacher. His lectures are based on excel sheets that are very unorganized and hard to read. There are wileyplus problems that do not help with the test questions. I had to work pretty hard for a B in this class
Does well to explain things, very experienced in Excel, and try's his best to keep learning to help answer questions. The class wasn't that bad, just practice like he says and you should be fine. Also gives real-world examples and gives good insight and help on the project. Take this professor!
Had him for 231 and 232, both tough classes. Lectures are pretty dry with an occasional joke crack or anecdote. He types out his lesson on excel during his first class of the day then just goes through it for the other sections, makes it available online. Bad at responding to e-mails. Knows his stuff but needs to work on being approachable.
Do NOT take this class with fuller if you want to learn something. He lectures off excel spreadsheets and pulls numbers out of no where so going back to look at them are impossible to figure it out. I had to teach myself most of this stuff. Multiple choice on tests is near impossible. I'd avoid at ALL costs.
Only three tests, including the final. He is just so boring, and if you can read the book you'll be fine. Just need a refresher before the tests, but know everything because he literally tests you on everything.
Harlan is an entertaining guy, but not a great teacher. Every class he sits and scrolls through an excel sheet. He gives little insight on the exams, however he typically does curve them. He doesn't assign homework, which is nice, except for the fact that this class requires a lot of practice. I would recommend taking with someone else.
Harlan thinks he's funny but he's not at good professor. His syllabus isn't his. Your grade is based off 2 tests, the final, a computer problem. With this being a difficult course he does not explain anything. He just fills out the excel spreadsheet with numbers. I've never failed a class before but with him I did. Don't take him if you need a B .
Very difficult class - mostly going back and teaching yourself. However, he does curve tests appropriately. Definitely difficult but accounting is a challenging subject. If you are not good at reviewing things and learning things over again, do not take him. He most certainly doesn't spoon feed you a good grade. However, hard work does pay off.
I would NEVER take him or this class again, we were assigned him right before the semester started or else I would not have taken his section from looking at other reviews. No teaching, just walks through textbook examples of excel every class. Exams are difficult and he provided no study guide. Very un organized
He's the worst professor I've ever had. He doesn't thoroughly explain the examples, you're better off staying home to teach the material to yourself. We only had a few exam grades and no homework. I tried to contact him about possibly missing an exam due to illness, and he never responded to my voicemail and phone calls I even stopped by his office
Harlan is one of a kind. He can go off on a tangent about days gone by which takes up class time but when he is focusing on the class subject, he knows what he's doing. He'll repeat steps and help you get to the right place if you need. Excel is just a nightmare to learn and memorize past its basic tools.
Fuller is one of the worst professors I have ever had at ISU. If you email him, good luck because he hasn't responded to me in weeks multiple times. The syllabus said there would be 100 points worth of homework (easy points) but only assigned 50 points worth. Powerpoints are very vague and not helpful. Terrible communicator with students. DONT TAKE
If you want updates on what's going on in class, you'll have to attend. He doesn't send out class emails ever and you'll have to email him first in order to receive any information.
The worst teacher ever just goes over homework and slides on Cengage that he hasn't even prepared at all or put any effort into. I can't believe this guy gets paid for just reading slides.
I think Mr. Fuller is one of the most misunderstood teachers. He gets the worst rap from students who don't take the effort to respect him or give him anywhere near the credit. Once you show you care and give effort, he rewards it by always offering times to meet and help. I've never learned more in a semester than with Mr. Fuller
Super boring class awful lectures
Lemme just start off by saying harlan needs to retire. The whole semester he didnt display your grade so its the night before finals and im struggling to figure out my grade. He didnt give a study guide for any of the exams, let alone the final which is cumulative- 14 chapters of what? Also, he didnt give the exams back to review.
I personally really like Harlan. I know a lot of people rate him badly, but his class really isn't that hard. Only one homework assignment every 1-2 weeks. He is a really fast grader when it comes to exams, and he always goes over them. The tests aren't super complicated. His class is easier than the other 131 classes from what I've heard.
Harlan tries to make this class enjoyable even though the material can be difficult. He offers some extra credit and your grade is based on 4 exams and a Cengage assignment every week or so. He doesn't take attendance, but showing up every day definitely benefits you, along with tutoring if you struggle. I would recommend Harlan for ACC131.
Professor Fuller seemed like he never cared about our class (BUS100). There were no assignments in class. Only assignments online were graded. SO that means there were no tests (only homework) that isn't even graded by him. Easy A but didn't learn too much. No final either.
Harlan is simply not a good teacher. He has a vast knowledge of accounting and just struggles to explain the topic. This isn't a hard class and you can do well in this class if you study the textbook on your own. He lectures over problems he knows by heart and demonstrate why he does the things he does. Pick a diff. prof. if you can!
I can tell that Harlan is experienced in his field, but not a lot of that is translated into class. I didn't get my grade until the last week of classes, & it was only based off of 6 assignments the entire semester. I'm grateful for the easy A, I guess. Harlan doesn't exactly seem to care about the class & can ramble in lectures.
Pretty easy class, but we didn't really do much at all. I'm a business major and sadly didn't learn anything while I've heard friends with different professors actually learn. So don't take if you actually want to learn about your major.
Great person and very easy to talk to, but might be the worst professor at teaching I have ever experienced by far. Harlan has NO study guides, online notes, online lecture, or even in-person lecture notes (because he doesn't actually give lectures, just answers to HW problems) Attendance is mandatory but class gets let out after 20 min DO NOT TAKE
If you want an easy pass, take Harlan. If you want to actually learn anything, DO NOT take Harlan. It is very evident that he does not care at all to teach his students anything new. He doesn't provide anything except the bare minimum the school requires. As a student, I feel scammed that I paid any sort of money to take his class.
I like Harlan. Im not a great student who spends a lot of time doing HW or anything. But if you go to class and just pay attention and follow along to his lectures then it should be easy to get a B or C. He curves some test and is a very nice grader. You can take Fuller he is not that bad
Prof. Fuller's class has a mixed rep, but it's quite manageable if you put in the effort. The textbook and Cengage assignments are helpful, and unstuck ai can be a game-changer for exam prep.
I would avoid him, but if you HAVE to take him... get into tutoring ASAP!!!!!!!! I learned everything in tutoring. He does do extra credit and curve tests. He also isn't too hard on grading written-out problems as long as you sort of know the concepts. Yes, he doesn't teach anything, but with tutoring, you can pass with an A.
I took him for both ACC131 and 132. Harlan is a very old-school professor. He just sits in front of the classroom and talks about the Excel file. He posts the notes, but many times, they do not make sense. Overall, Harlan is a great guy and easy to talk to, but can make learning more difficult and can put you to sleep.
Prof F is just awful, 10/10 don't recommend. I mainly taught myself the content and went to tutoring. His lectures are him putting notes into excel which don't make sense. He just blabs at you all class which is not how I learn bc I'm a visual learner. There is 3 tests and a cumulative final. The only reason I scraped by with a B was bc of EC.
I personally had zero problems with this professor whatsoever. He is not very tough on grading tests. He also gives the students a practice exam that is nearly identical to the exam itself, as long as you attend his class and pay a little bit of attention. This class should not be that much of a problem. Can't believe he gets negative reviews tbh.
