Makes class interesting, he's a funny guy. DO NOT COME LATE TO THIS CLASS!!! He hates it when people are late and doesn't hesitate to point you out. Tests are somewhat easy, pretty much stratight from lecture and book.
Dr. Strutton is an awesome professor and a good guy to know outside of class. He's well connected, worldly, and doesn't put up with any B.S. I agree, DON'T BE LATE. You're better off just going home.
Over all a cool teacher. Pokes fun at people in the front row. Very helpful in understanding students if you let him know you are having trouble. If you do not go to offic hours Consider yourself ****ed grade wise.

Greatest teacher of all time!
Great professor. I took him for the maymester and he was actually entertaining enough to listen to for three hours, four days a week. Skim the text, review the notes, and pay attention and you'll do fine. Sets grading scale a little lower, so its an easy A (88.5 and up) or B (78.5 and up)
Overall nice guy, but a little funny sometimes. It's hard to read him. He likes people with opinions, so speak up. The class was a little difficult to me, but I probably should have read the book a lot more.
This class should be basic & straightforward, however that's not how he lectures, he makes up his OWN lectures, test you on them & expects you to know the books information & test you on that. Test were MORE difficult than should be. I'm a B student & getting a low C. I study from the publishers website, read the book & study lecture notes...
Easy Class! He gives extra credit points throughout semester. Tests are off his notes. Entertaining and a fun class to be in.
His class is somewhat interesting he keeps you involved with discussion and free points given by taking easy quizes. Tests can be difficult if you dont attend class some questions come directly from his lecture and are not found anywhere else.
This class should in reality be an easy class but he makes it a very hard class with the way he writes the tests. You have to study very hard for his exams and his exams come with corny questions what is Mr.Spock. He also goes off topic a lot in his lectures and because of that lectures do not make sense and do not connect with the textbook.
this class is ridiculous. he gets off topic with every subject and talks about his wife all the time like we care. study very hard for this class. questions are tricky and examples used in class are on the test. use the website in the back of the book for questions on the test and final. study study study
His class is really interesting, but the test is a little bit hard. You should go to class and take notes.
Dr. Strutton has been my favorite teacher so far. Tests are half book and half lecture, but they compliment each other. He doesn't use powerpoint, but it's really easy to focus because you're listening to him rather than copying the screen. He gives extra credit in the form of easy quizzes that come from lectures. uses very clear examples. 88 is A.
Dr. Strutton is a very intelligent, endearing professor. One of the best I have had at UNT, without a question. He incorporates stories about his family and life, all of which give so much depth to his lectures. He teaches students as much about life as about marketing. A true mensch!
I agree with previous comments about Dr. Strutton being one of the best if not THE best professor I have had EVER. I took this class during a Maymester and as hard as it was to sit for 4 hours a day for 11 days straight, he made it highly interesting. His tests are not easy but if you pay attention and read then you should be good! I def recommend!
Dr. Strutton is a good professor. He makes you want to go to class, and well you have to bc most of the tests come straight from his lectures. He is really easy to pay attention to, trust me I had him for 3 hours! He has good stories and you loves when people are involved!!! I highly suggest taking a class with this professor!!!! One of the best!!!
Tests consist of exactly half lecture and half book, so attending class is a must. Dr. Strutton is usually interesting to listen to. This is an easy class.
My favorite professor I've had by far. He's hilarious and makes the content easy to follow. Gives extra credit for going to class--attendance isn't mandatory--but I actually ENJOYED going...and it was a 3 hr class. He puts all his notes online and the rest is in the book. Easy class, great professor, HIGHLY recommend it.
SERIOUSLY HE IS AWESOME! If I could sit there M-Th 8-12 and enjoy it, I think that tells you something. Some advice go to class ON TIME! Basically everything I had to say has been said.
I took this during a may mester & he was very easy to listen to for 4 hours. Make sure you are on time.He didn't really give us an idea about what was on the test, sometimes during lecture he would mention something that might be, which made it hard to study for a maymester. Good teacher, go to class everyday for bonus pts, and NEVER be late!
I thought he was a little arrogant for a professor. I tend to like practioners over academics. However, as the semester wore I on I became endeared to a guy who does love what he does and tries to build good relationships with his students. I was not offended by any religous comments. I think they are worth while and needed.
Arrogant and rude. This is a public school; the bible has no place in MKTG. I have made an official complaint. He refused to review important material for final. Told personal stories that had nothing to do with the material. Would not allow students into class if they were even one minute late. I'm an A student and he's one of the worst I've had.
If you're late then you can't enter until a later time in class(like 1 hr). I took it during summer (w/ 2 x 4hr classes per week). He didn't review what will be on the tests so you have to go thoroughly through the book and his notes. He does use Biblical references; however he is just using these to describe people's characteristics.
Excellent communicator! Passionate about mktg and stories about his wife were relevant to topics discussed. Bible references were brief and not sure how they offended anyone. Attnd class for extra pts. Study classroom notes diligently for exam. But pls don't ask him anything that is already on the syllabus he freaks out about that and don't be late
His notes are online, but very jumbled and hard to understand. Great person and teacher, but if you can't stand jumping around and/or having to spend 2+ hrs outside of class trying to piece together his lecture with notes, then take someone else
I'm sorry, but if you don't get an A in his class, you were definitely doing something wrong. Gives TONS of extra credit points and nothing on the tests could be considered a surprise in my opinion. They are difficult though, so make sure you put in a few hours of studying for them. Anyone who complains about religious comments gets offended easy.
He gives some extra credit for attendance, but it's not worth suffering through he rants and preaching(Methodist minister). He also doesn't know how to proof read anything and the exams are confusing and it is sometimes impossible to understand what he is asking. He also sometimes forgets to put the correct answer in the options! Not a good prof!
Does not teach so much as spend all class ranting and bragging. He does give good overall, applicable knowledge about marketing, but does not cover the subject matter of the course well. If you don't mind wasting time in class to get extra credit and are self taught, he's def for you! He is pretty funny sometimes though...
Horrible. Doesn't teach a single thing. Read the chapters at least 3 times before taking the test or you'll fail.
Be prepared to take detailed notes, his "guidelines" are jumbled, not helpful and missing information. most of what he teaches is NOT in the book but makes you READ the book for the test. useless
He was a good professor. He makes you apply yourself but gives u the notes to study for you pass the exam as long as you read through the material he's given you will be fine and may actually learn something. If you want to be lazy don't take his class...Although u could probably get by on extra credit.
Horrible professor. He "grades" on a curve. Be forewarned that the curve is generally only a point or 2. Lectures are useless. You have to read the book to sort of understand what's going on. A BIG waste of time and energy.
Personally I thought his lectures were engagng, not a class to slack off in and DONT come late to class. Attendence is not mandatory but I would recommend to go for some extra points. Book is really not needed, take notes and make sure to read his printed outline notes for each chapter. He is fair and the grade you get will be what you put into it.
Good teacher. Great guy. I would definitely say come to class ON TIME. I would have gotten a higher grade had I known how to be on time. He puts the most important info in the first 10 min of lecture. Tests are really specific to lecture and you have to read the book. It's a boring class but he tries to make it interesting
He posts his class-notes online, as well as the articles that he discusses in class. Study the chapters (take good notes) and study the class notes/articles. Common sense concepts + lots of extra credit = an easy A, if you have a brain.
Manages to make a straightforward subject mind numbingly boring. Reads straight from his notes (posted online) adding a few irrelevant Biblical references or self praising accolades here and there. Hardest part was sitting in class listening to what I could read for myself in 1 hour for 3 hours. Not a bad guy, but not a great teacher.
Took during may-mester. Overall good class. I would recommend him. Gives tons of extra credit and good advice. Still waiting on grades to post, though.
Easy A so long as you attend class, take notes, pay attention and read the book. The professor has been teaching at UNT like for over 20 years. Has that arrogance about him and likes to make sure u know who's boss though he cracks some jokes. Will make biblical references and his Christian faith. Discussion entertained if in line with his views.
This class is hard. Attendance isn't mandatory, but sometimes gives you a point extra for coming, and offers extra credit surveys to take during the semester. His notes don't help with the test at all, and he doesn't give out any reviews. Read the chapters thoroughly or you'll fail. His tests are extremely difficult, and i've never missed a class
Come to class, listen, and follow directions. You will be fine. He's a great example of what a future boss will be like; He expects you to be on time, give your best effort, and to read. You get the grade you deserve based on the amount of work you put into it....that's life. He's a very good professor and you will learn about marketing and life.
he is a good professor. come to class, listen, read the text, study the notes, you will make an A. he gives easy opportunities for extra credit on the tests and there's no homework, besides reading obviously. take this class, you might learn something
I would not recommend. I find that he generally rambles, makes unfunny jokes, uses 3 words where one will suffice, is generally unhelpful especially during "reviews". If you do have to take his class, show up on time, read the assigned material, and laugh at his jokes because he seems to get upset if you don't.
Great Professor, he knows his stuff, really really smart in a real world way. Read the book take good notes, go to class and listen, you will get a good grade. Lots of material in this class. If the class as a whole starts to fall behind on grades he will give lots of opportunity for extra credit surveys, attendance ect.
Very caring and genuine christian man. Loved the professor, hated the class set up. Only 3 tests, but there is extra credit points if you show up to class. I didn't buy the book, BUY THE BOOK. If you don't test well, find a marketing class that offers more grades! Go to review sessions, they help. Ask him to clarify and he will!Great man, hard class
Professor was HORRIBLE! Do NOT take this professor at all if you can help it. He is very rude and disrespectful, always has non intellectual sarcams, which he gets annoyed if you don't lauph at his jokes. He expects you to read everything and be prepared for ONLY TEST, does not review. Also his syllabus is a lie, points are not correct. BAD Profess
He is awesome. He makes the lectures really interesting and doesn't give stupid little assignments. He gives a ton of extra credit points. The only grades are tests that he says are hard, but if you pay attention in class they're pretty easy.
Great professor! He is very funny and makes sure that the lecture is not dry. If you want an A in the class you must read the book and online material but you can do well without it. He posts notes online so you can do fine without going to class but he gives a lot of extra credit for just showing up to class. If you need this class, take Strutton
Be on time (if late, he makes you wait 10min), dont leave early (he gives ex cred at end of class if a lot of ppl leave), & dont text (zero tolerance, he'll kick you out). Some of his anectdotes can be annoying (mocks his wife, lots of bible refs), but lectures are about 70% of the test on avg. I dont like him as a person, but he's a good prof.
Must read text. He is all over the place with his material and lecture. Was in an evening class full of working profressionals and he treated us like children. If you aren't on time you have to wait outside 10 mins (In timeout? I don't get it.) Absolutely no technology. Don't get caught checking phone. He kicks you out and makes a scene.
Don't take this professor. He is RUDE & DISRESPECTFUL. If you ask any kind of question chances are he'll make you feel dumb. I felt bad for a few students that he put on the spot during class. He makes a big scene if you're late or on your phone. He also gets irritated VERY EASILY he made going to his class dreadful
Well I was one of those type of students who only showed up on test day. No ideal how he was in lecture. He gives in extra credit activity at the end of every test. Test aren't that difficult but they can be over 5 chapters. The final covered 9 Chapters. Just read the class notes that he provides, skim through the book, and he will be fine.
I don't know what people are talking about Dr. Strutton was a great professor. Yes he is intense and may take being late or using your phone more seriously than the average professor but so what? Only 3 exams based about 90% on his notes and in class lectures so you really need to show up. He gives extra credit for attendance so why not go. Energy
3 exam and final is cummulative. Get ready to fail because his notes aren't helpful.
He gives out a bunch of extra credit, which is the only way to pass. His lectures are unclear and his tests are worded terribly. He writes his own tests, and it's obvious that he can't think clearly. He's funny, but doesn't give you clear answers. Also rude in one on one conversations. He talked over me and other students.
Strutton is a great professor who wants people to learn a lot and get involved in lectures. The only assignments are the tests themselves. GO TO THE LECTURES. They're dry and he doesn't use PPT or anything like that, but it's so worth it. Barely 10% of the questions asked on the tests are from the book. Tests are hard if you don't use the notes.
Initially I thought taking this instructor was a big mistake, however over the semster I discovered he was an okay professor. Often it seems like he thinks the students are dumb bc he demands responses to difficult questions. Overall similar to the parent who is tough on you & critiques you often, but only because they want you to do well in life.
If you show up to every class he gives extra credit ( which is totally worth it). With little effort you can get a c, little more effort a B or even an A. The tests are mostly from his lecture, it wont hurt to look over the book though. Tests are a little hard. Show up to class and you will pass.
I was nervous to take this professor, but he didn't turn out too bad. My best advice is to make flash cards of every single thing that is on his class overviews, and also make flash cards from the book. Because his tests are hard and detailed. I ended up actually liking him though!
I'm sure Dr. Strutton is a very knowledgable man, but the entire semester he would make crude comments so I lost respect for him. He is generous when it comes to extra credit, but only if you come to class. His lectures are SO long but as long as you print out his lectures and study them you'll get an A!
He wrote his own book this year, which is WORDY to say the least. His first test was so difficult that everyone received a 20pt curve! Listen to him in lecture, and get ready to read like you've never read before! His tests are very detailed and analytical. He gives attendance points though which will help at the end. I would take another professor
Is pretty religious and will spout off bible verses, but overall has a pretty good sense of humor. It is hard to listen to his lectures because of how excessively republican he is. Doesn't offer homework, just three tests and extra credit. Extremely hard tests, I wouldn't take him if I were you.
He's really rambly. His jokes are stupid and he will assume any stereotypes of men and women to be the case with everyone, like all men wanting big trucks and all women watch the Bachelor. He doesn't allow computers, and if you're late, he makes you either wait until 2:10 or won't let you in. Do NOT take this class. I'm serious. Don't.
Horrible experience, tough grader
Part of Study Abroad trip - You need to stay on top of your assignments/he is forgetful & undependable, but a very nice person. Would highly recommend him for Study Abroad & would take him again! 3-hour essay writing session abroad/challenging, but doable. Journaling is a MUST & will be graded! MUST ALWAYS BE ON TIME! ZERO tolerance for tardiness!
He's a bit arrogant, but he's not a bad teacher. Go to every lecture or you won't do well. Gives 3 tests and that is it, but he gives extra credit points for going to class. They help a lot. Read the book thoroughly before the tests.
He is one of those professors who wrote his own book and makes you buy it. The book is absolute garbage. No other universities adopted it. It appears that no one edited the book with its wordy paragraphs and long repetitive chapters. His tests were poorly written will bad questions and numerous spelling errors. As a person, he is condescending.
He admitted the other day in class that you're lucky to get an 82 in the class or that it's hard to get that grade. Clearly, he is setting us up for failure. His class shouldn't be as difficult as he's making it out to be. Majority of the class is suffering because of his ego, thinking his class is the most important of our college career!
Arrogant. Doesn't like to answer questions unless he likes you or the question. Humiliates students who come in late or have electronics out. Tests don't reflect the material for the time invested. His poorly written textbook is required. Random lectures. Too much reading and studying that doesn't pay off at test time.
Not dependable, 3 exams, 50 questions, 50 minutes, 5 choices. No homework. Give extra credit if you attend class. If you are late more than 5 minutes, you can not enter the class. One of the exam class highest score is 82. Test is hard. Avoid at all cost.
Attend class everyday, participated for extra credit, give extra credit for attendance, be on time stayed until the lecture end because he might give extra credit, listen to his lecture and take note, hard class but passable, three exams only no homework
Strutton is hands down the best lecturer I have had. He comes prepared with a planned and well thought out lecture that keeps you engaged as opposed to feeling your time is being wasted. You must attend lecture to pass and as a bonus he gives extra credit for those who stay til the end of the lecture. Great lecture, difficult class, worthwhile.
only 3 test and no way to study, its nothing he goes over in class. All he does is read from the textbook he wrote.
Professor Strutton was the BEST instructor I have ever taken. He is very passionate about his work, cares about students. He ensures that you get the lecture & is very funny! Gives extra credit, curves ALL exams, 3 tests & that's it. Read your book, take notes. I took him for Maymester...
Going into this course I was scared b/c of other reviews. He is very opinionated but shares his in a light-hearted/funny way. He wrote the textbook so it is VERY important to read it AND attend lectures. 3 exams total, no other assignments. GO TO CLASS!! He gives extra credit all the time. He made marketing basics interesting. (I was a maymester).
Tests are difficult. Final grade measured by 3 tests, no homework. I feel info given was very vague, & test questions very specific. Would not let you enter class unless you were 1 min early, or you had to wait til 5 after to enter. Enforcing his rules was more distracting than anyone breaking them. (Had 2 min argument with student about phone use)
This class was actually really interesting. He lectures for the full 50 minutes every class but its actual information that is helpful, no time fillers. He doesn't use a powerpoint which is different but it made me focus on the lecture more than just copying slides. Show up to class everyday he will randomly give like 3,4, or 5 extra credit points.
Was not a fan of Dr. Strutton at all. His lectures consist of material from the book but then strays off in to random tidbits and references that I didn't't find helpful at all. Dr. Strutton comes across very condescending in my opinion and for that reason alone I decided to not attend class. Read your textbook and study and you should be fine.
Show up to class and get extra credit occasionally. If you take good notes and read the book you will pass the test. He pulled through for our class and gave us a curve and also changed our grading system that really helped boost our grades. Overall I like his lectures, a little condescending, but cares about his students.
He is one of the rudest professors at this school. I did not like him at all. Very condescending. He quotes himself because he wrote the book. Do not buy the second little book unless he tells you y'all will actually use it. We didn't use it at all. Basically memorize the book for the tests.
If you get offended easily do not take his class. He says things as they are and says what everyone else is thinking. Personally, I like that and i find him funny and his lectures are really entertaining. There are some useless assignments on Pearson that you have to pay for and they relate nothing to the exams which are 3 and a final.
I like Strutton a lot, but if you are sensitive and can't handle someone who is harsh and doesn't take crap off lazy students you won't like him. Show up, listen to his rants (they're usually insightful and have a much larger meaning that's applicable to life as a whole) and you'll do just fine
Refers to bible every class, not that it had anything to do with our marketing class. Exams were difficult to prepare for almost impossible to pass. As a whole nice guy but infuriating if you needed to make better than a C.
This man is a wonderful lecturer. The material itself is pretty straight forward, but I assure you, this is a class worth attending. This man is not only brilliant, he truly enjoys what he does. TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. You will not regret it one bit. Bravo to you, Prof. Strutton.
Solid professor- This class is dry, but it is what it is. I wouldn't mind taking him again. I go to class just for attendance & concept checks which are like 75% of the exams. I don't take notes, but look at the PPTs the night before exams and I've made all A's. I'm not a genius, so idk why people complain. So much EC it's stupid for you to fail...
He has a lot of knowledge, he is straightforward and he is an Republican. I think tests are difficult for me because I'm an international student. However, it doesn't matter. He has a passion to teach students. Suck it up. It was a worth class at UNT
The final exam was impossible to prepare for. I had to buy a new textbook one week before our exam. Which left 3 in class lecture days and we only got through 4 of the 8 chapters necessary to pass the final exam. Don't take this class with him if you can help it.
His class was my favorite one of the semester even though I got a C in the class! Your grades are only 4 test grades including the final. He has an outline for each chapter he goes over and gets his information straight from the book. You have to make sure you pay attention to detail to everything he says/what they book says to do well on tests!
Not too bad. You need to read the book and do the study questions on GRTEP if you want an A. Tests come directly from those. Lectures aren't great, but go to class for extra credit and clarification! The online homework can be tricky so do it carefully. I put moderate effort into the class and made an A, so take him if you're willing to read!
I dreaded class. Yes he posts the online for the CH online but would do it 1-3 days after we start the material. Not terrible but having 2 go back and add/retype was annoying. Show up for the EC, but this class u have to drop $. 2 books, MyMarketingLab and EC app spent like 400 on all of it combined, MML u can redo to get max grade.
No powerpoints sits in front of the class and lectures, however, he does have notes for each chapter which are really helpful. If you print the notes and elaborate on them while he talks you will do well. You have to read the book because there are something's that are not in the notes but on the test. Attend class you get EC. Straightforward.
Super long syllabus, mandatory attendance using a survey app, and the material he lectures on is only about 40% of the test (hence the reason he has to force students to attend). A nice guy, and the lectures weren't too boring. However, overall the class was bad and his lectures were bad. You have to use 3 different websites for online assignments.
Dr. Strutton's a good guy, but this class is a lot of work. There are online quizzes for each chapter that range from 50-200 questions, My Marketing Lab simulations, and attendance checks on TopHat. He goes very fast for a 50 minute class, making the TA type the notes real fast, and leaving the class scrambling to keep up.
He's so extra. He makes you do so many assignments, quizzes ( which are like 100 questions each), and the exams are annoying. IF YOU CAN AVOID HIM, PLEASE DOOOOOO
This has been by far the worst class I have ever taken since Ive been in college. You have to buy his textbook to even access the online practice exams which are 100+, sometimes 200+ questions a piece! You have to purchase the labs and tophat. His tests are horribly worded and difficult. 0/10 do not recommend this class AT ALL.
Worst professor I've ever taken. I have never met someone so rude. I went to office hours for extra help and all I got was attitude every time. He seems like at any moment he will snap. Pretty sure he's psycho. His book he wrote is so expensive and everything about this class is awful. His exams are difficult as well. Save your grade!
Don't miss class unless you have a way to get the notes. If you go to class, do the homework and extra credit, then you should be good. He drops the lowest test grade, and curves all his tests. Be ready for long, monotonous lectures. The class isn't hard if you go to class though.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!! Not only are there lots of quizzes (11) that have grammatical mistakes, are repetitive, and have between 50 and 200 questions. The tests are awful. I went in to ask this professor a question, and he was VERY RUDE. He acted like answering a question over an issue w/ his grading was a huge inconvenience to him.
Lectures lasted the entire 3 hour period even though they could be greatly shortened. All the books and online codes for the class are ridiculously expensive. He's very religious and isn't afraid to base his entire lectures around it. However, he is funny. I wouldn't take him for any class ever again
Awful class. There were so many problems right from the beginning and that carried on throughout the semester. There are excessive amounts of homework. He wrote his own textbook with a code so youre forced to spend $200 on a useless book that you cant resale. Very particular when you email him or see him in his office. BEWARE OF THIS CLASS.
Don't rely on extra credit. He isn't as bad as everyone is saying. If you get your feelings hurt easily don't take him. Lots of online homework, but it's on quizlet. Go to class and listen, take notes. I read the book, took notes, and recorded the lecture. An 88.5 A. There's no reason to not make at least a B. Curves exams heavily.
This professor is not as bad as everyone lets on. Yes, you do have to purchase his textbook to do his homework and practice exams. but you need the textbook for the tests. The tests are half lecture, and half textbook (except the final which is all lecture). Attendance is mostly mandatory as he uses Tophat as an attendance grade (most days).
Attendance and reading is a heavy weight on this class. Dont get behind!
David Strutton is an awful teacher. His lectures are full of conceptual and philosophical junk that has barely anything to do with Marketing. He is so far up on his high horse that it's hard to even see him sometimes. And he sounds like a mediocre Jerry Seinfeld impersonator.
I took him during a summer 5 week course. I definitely had to read the material and pay attention to the lectures to do well in the class. He gives pop quizzes that pertain to information he hasn't discussed yet, so you do have to read ahead of time do really do well. The wording on his exams could be very confusing. He was funny from time to time.
I found his lectures to be interesting and entertaining. Each chapter covered has 2-3 homework assignments and a practice exam. The homework is super easy. Practice exams are very lengthy but most answers are on quizlet. His exams are straight from the lectures and practice exams. He offers a ton of extra credit through surveys. GO TO CLASS.
Tough tests, lots of homework in the form of practice tests.
I dont mind attendance and paying attention in class, that is why I am at University. However Dr. Strutton is way too sarcastic for my taste. Really made class irritating.
There are multiple components of tis class. Make sure to do the online practice tests and all extra credit. There is even an optional test. I was able to pull my D to an A from the extra credit and optional exam. Participation is a component but you can make decent grades without it. His lectures are exactly like the textbook !!
I took him for the 3 week summer session. He really cares that the students are learning the material and gives multiple chances for questions. He wrote the textbook so it is really helpful for the tests.
Online attendance good chunk of your grade... dont skip. Exams are heavily lecture base (70-80% lecture base) so youre going to want to show up. There is an extra credit opportunity thatll award you 7.5pts to your FINAL grade. Hes rough on the edges at first but he really is an awesome professor.
Professor Strutton knows what he's talking about, but most of the lectures just restate what is in the books he assigns which you have to purchase to get access to the practice tests. There are a lot of online assignments but they're not difficult to knock out.
He is a horrible professor. He is a republican and let it known in class that he is a Trump fan. He talks down of Obama and Hilary. His lectures are boring for he reads from his notes that are accessible to you online. His tests are HARD. He takes attendance. No extra credit available (he doesn't believe in it). Has a TON of HW.
He gives +5 points to final grade for extra credit assignment. Homework and practice tests were a lot. But easy. I never used my book, but read the book notes! Make sure to pay attention to what he says. Most of his tests are based off of his lectures. Show up, take notes and youll get an A. Sometimes he gives test answers. Attendance is crucial.
Dr. Strutton's Foundations of Marketing class was my first class at UNT. He is a great lecturer and his class is what convinced me to become a marketing major. His exams stem from the online "practice" quizzes (which are all required-I made the mistake of thinking they were not a grade). There was a lot of material but it was presented in a fun way
His lectures are pretty much straight from the book, and sometimes he gets stuck talking about one particular topic for a long time. Overall easy class though and he does have some valuable lectures on certain chapters. Easy A and i promise it wasn't hard to get.
There is a bunch of online tests, all the answers are online. If I knew that in the beginning I would've gotten an A. Go to class for attendance. The in class final requires a decent amount of studying but he didn't make it that hard. This should be an easy A or at least a B.
Recently took this class over 5W2 online in the summer. I wouldn't take his class again if I had the choice. Entire class is tests. Sends out tons of lengthy emails about cheating and he's extremely repetitive. Went on vacation mid semester when assignments are due. Books are expensive and required to buy them both brand new.. and he's the author.
He is disrespectful and rude and gives no care about the success or fail of his students. He is repetitive and will send you 2-5 things on canvas weekly and a lot of them are the same thing. He is very opinionated and uses said opinions to teach his material. I will never take him again, I recommend you find another professor if you have to take it
You take a 75 question "exam" and a 35-50 question "quiz" each week online. The books are overpriced & extremely repetitive like his lectures. Gets mad if you message him through canvas and will make you rewrite your email if it's "unprofessional". Final is worth 50% of your grade, if you fail the final, you literally cannot pass the class. Sucks.
This class could've been so interesting but Strutton kind of ruined it for me. Lectures every class, stuck in his ways with his opinions, and is wealthy and lets you know nearly every class lol. 2 expensive books, just buy online version if even that. He's the author so clear conflict of interest. About 100 HW questions weekly, most is on Quizlet
Great class And easy to pass besides you have to buy expensive books
Don't take him UNLESS you have to. He knows his stuff BUT lectures are pointless/ useless and says to pay attention because THE EXAM will be over lectures.. That's a lie. Make sure to memorize EVERY definition in order to pass THE EXAM. You better show up every single day IF you want extra credit. THIS IS THE ONLY POST YOU WILL NEED TO READ****
Makes you buy two books but only tested over one for the final. No real exams just really long homework assignments (Some 75 questions and others 20-40.) Was late to our final but expects us to be on time everyday. Take Thompson. Pointless extra credit and no point in attending class 3 times a week if you dont have regular exams.
Professor strutton is a big fraud. He requires you to purchase two books that he wrote just so he can sustain his wealthy lifestyle. Lectures were pointless and he gives these online exams that are useless. Dont take him if he want to invest in yourslef
Professor Strutton is not as bad as these reviews make him seem. while there is a lot of homework each week, the assignments are easy, and the final is similar to the questions. Lectures get redundant and lots of unnecessary information, but there is occasional "extra credit" with attendance. Final is worth 50% so be sure to study.
He writes his own book, and you have to purchase two of them. A weekly online "test" (40 ish questions) and a weekly online "exam" (75 questions). Final exam is about 48% of your final grade, and is entirely from the modules. I called him for a question, and he hung up on me. Got an 89 but he rounded me up to an A, bless. Don't recommend!
Talked about his wife for two hours and then didn't take attendance. Massive waste of time and money. Take Thompson instead, he isn't great either but at least he stays on topic.
i see where the frustration of having to buy 2 expensive books and access codes comes from, but the class itself is not hard. the lecture comes directly from the book and almost all of the homework answers are on quizlet. the class isnt that bad if you do 2 tests a week (one from each book) and just take notes and study.
Makes you buy 2 of his own books. He lost his temper one day in class and just kicked us out the day before our midterm instead of giving us a review which he told us he would do. Once classes went online due to Coronavirus he refused to teach online his first email was titled miss seeing yall for 3 hours a week (thats not going To happen)
Strutton is the worst educator I have ever dealt with. He has a very large ego and his lectures are agonizingly tedious. The final is 48% of your grade and is cumulative, he also assigns over 2 dozen tests that have on average 50 questions due every week. If it wasn't for the pandemic I would have most likely failed. Good riddance Strutton.
DO NOT TAKE. He tells you to purchase two books for the class but the tests questions are only taken from one of the books. Only tests are midterm and final. Rude during lectures and feels entitled. Our final was 130 QUESTIONS and only had 2 HOURS to take.
Dr. Strutton is one of the worst teachers I have had at UNT. He writes his own books and homework tests which are filled with errors and corrections. Answers are on Quizlet for most things. The wording on his final was so awful it was hard to understand what the questions were even asking.
By far one of the worst professors I've ever had. Makes you buy two of his own expensive books which he is clearly profiting heavily from. He has serious anger issues and blows his fuse anytime something doesn't go his way. He would often kick us out of class for being a minute late and then not let us in until 20 min after. Waste of time & money.
If you read the textbook and show up to class you will be fine. However, he is one of the most arrogant, rude, and hot headed person I have ever met. He lets the smallest things upset him and then stays in a mood for the rest of class. Once things went online he completely stopped teaching us and expected us to just learn from his lecture notes.
For our first exam review, the class showed up without the questions written down on paper and he decided we didn't get a review anymore. He never asked us to write them down. He makes you buy his books for $200 even though he will read them directly when he is actually on task. So I guess take this class if you want to teach yourself most topics.
Dr. Strutton is one of the worst professors I have ever had. If you care about yourself, your grade, or your mental health do not take him. Lectures are rants where he passive aggressively yells at the class. Online hw is well over 120 questions per week. Final exam had nothing to do with anything in the course and was 50%. Refuses to answer ?'s
Worse class at UNT. You purchase two of his books that are not easily digestible. Module/ Chapters from his book are the assignments, midterm, and final are basically half your grade. The final was 2 hours for 130 questions you had 55 seconds per each question. Unnecessary emails were sent on a daily. This isn't the profession for him!
If I could rate him a 0 I would. The absolute worst professor I have had in college. He says the most inappropriate/controversial/sexist things in class and no one seems to hold him accountable... I am shocked at how unprofessional and rude he is. Overall the course is doable, but him as a professor absolutely ruined the class.
I took this class during a winter session. Strutton kept us up to date as much as he could. Class is somewhat difficult, but you must learn to be resourceful. He does like to scare you when communicating in the syllabus or his announcements.
This class was disgusting. I regret believing that one comment saying he wasn't as bad as everyone says. Trust me, he is. Like everyone mentioned, he asked us to buy $200 worth of his own publications for access to homework and tests. On top of that, there were tons of glitches on the publisher's website that made doing homework a nightmare.
His maymester class was an unnecessary amount of work designed to make you buy both his textbooks that contain the same info. There were over 1200 questions not including tests or when you had to redo an assignment because the site glitched. He was quick to respond and the hw wasnt too hard. Ridiculous amount of work but the tests were hw based.
Professor Strutton has valuable wisdom of Marketing but his many chapter exams based on his own two books were tedious and exhausting. On the day we were scheduled to have a review for our midterm, he asked us to bring questions but he never specified he wanted them written, no one wrote their questions so we didn't have a review.
Strutton is a scam. Writes his own cryptic textbooks that students must buy new to take exams on his website, not Canvas. There are good Quizlets to help you with the online exams, but beware his in-class tests. He is not a good communicator at all. Good luck to those of you who have no other choice.
Took his class online and I can still relate to these other reviews. His textbook is filled with vaguely racist, sexist, classist, etc. sentiments. And he sent an average of two emails per day, usually more. Other than that though, he is actually not the worst. Lots of the homework answers are on quizlet and he curves tests. He could've been worse.
Dr. Strutton is perhaps the worst professor I have ever had. His views presented in the book he forces students to buy are not appropriate. Wanted to learn about marketing? Well, sorry, but you're going to learn about why Miley Cyrus twerks. I've included the "hilarious" tag because his teaching style is laughable. Steer clear from this "professor"
He's not as bad as everyone in the reviews. Anytime I had an issue, he was really kind and helped me out asap. The homeworks are annoying, but all the answers are on quizlet, and you only really need to read the skinny, not the other book (you still need both access codes though). He also heavily curves tests and final grades.
He wrote his own textbook, which was filled with biased information. He teaches the material mediocre at best, which is ironic because it's his own material. I highly recommend another professor, but if this is your only option it's not the end of the world.
Easily one of the worst professors I've ever taken. HW assignments are 50 Questions out of a 150 question pool. Tests are extremely difficult, especially because he gives no review. How do you study? Professor Strutton "just read the book". Often goes off on inappropriate rants. Final exam is 1/3 of your grade. Honestly, feels like a set up to fail
Where do I begin? the textbook is your only chance at passing. His lectures are god awful. He spends 45 minutes jumping from topic to topic without ever finishing a complete thought. He talked about his wife almost every class for 15 mins. Graded on 14 hws (answers found on quizlet) & 3 exams. Read the text book and do the homework youll pass.
He is not bad like everyone portrays him to be, those people are prob just lazy. If you can take him 3 times a week do, it'll be easier than the 3hr course weekly. Just read the book and you'll pass the class with an A. The book is easy to read and its interesting content. If you try hard enough you'll pass, he's not the worst, he's cool.
Take his online maymester or wintermester. It's a little difficult to find, but every single answer is on quizlet. It will take a lot of time to complete it all, but there is no lockdown so there really isn't a way you won't make an A. $90 book is a bit pricey but if it means an easy A, I am fine with it. His emails are annoying
14 chapters out of a biased textbook, each chapter has 50 questions hw, the text book is extremely wordy he makes simple things sound incredibly complex due to wording choice. Two tests 700 points each, 50 questions, 1 hr. The Final is with 1440 points which is 40% of your grade and consist of 115 questions. Take him at your own risk.
Horrible. Preaches to go to lectures and when you do go, he is off topic and irrelevant. Final is heavily weighted and few things matter but the tests. All the other work is basically nothing compared to his tests, which are very tedious. Basically, he is here to make money off the required textbook he wrote and does not care about how you do.
The reviews here are true. Homework for each chapter was 50Q, you had to purchase his textbook, he rambled a lot during lectures, and he's kind of snarky. If you have the opportunity to take someone else then do it, but if you don't it's not the end of the world. Sit near the front and participate and it'll help in the end, it's really not that bad
Lectures were disorganized rambles and he sent multiple extremely unprofessional emails to the class. Homework is 50 questions per chapter done online, tests are much more difficult and combined with his inability to explain his own textbook on top of his unprofessionalism, makes for a lousy experience. Definitely the worst professor I've had.
This class is easy but, my god, his emails and announcements on canvas are like a drunken narcissist going on a power trip... if you take him at least take him online so you can ignore his bullshit...
Class was not that bad. Sends way too many emails in my opinion, not sure what he is trying to get across. My only complaint is having to purchase the book and materials for the course which was kind of pricey.
The class itself was fine. The 50 question assignments and tests were open-book, easy, but tedious. Many answers are on Quizlet. All tests are strictly timed and he gives no feedback on the written tests. Exams are 60% of grade. Repetitive, semi-condescending emails, but just read the message and ignore the tone. The class really wasn't bad.
Easy A. Non Proctored Exams and Quizzes. He is nice and reminds you of upcoming assignments that are due. I recommend taking his Maymester class, as it is probably easier than the full 16 week semester.
Worst professor I have ever had, makes inappropriate comments & rude. The final exam was worth 60% of our final grade & was around 150 questions with only an hour & a half to complete it, the questions were long written questions. He thought a student was cheating in the final & threw a chair into a desk & started cursing. Would rather drop out
If you took marketing as your major like me, he is a great professor to have as your base knowledge of marketing. I am not going to lie, but his exams are heavy, require a lot of understanding, and the lectures have a lot of depth in each chapter. If you are taking an elective for an easy A, he is not the way to go.
Lectures are disorganized rambles that last way too long. Semi-condescending tone in emails and Canvas announcements. If possible, take the online option.
David Strutton was possibly the worst professor I have ever had. The man's emails read like someone who had a stroke. He seems drunk and irritated during office hours. Assignments are riddled with spelling mistakes, and unorganized. This guy shouldn't be allowed to call himself a professor. Wasted my time with useless lessons and material.
The course material locks the homework answers so you can't review your own homework for quizzes and tests. Good luck on the final exam when you have to review 10 chapters. use the search box to search for quick answers for the homework.
This guy should not be getting paid to teach. He obviously does not care about his job, nor does he put in any effort to actually teach. I was so disappointed taking this class because I learned nothing about actual marketing. There is almost no material to study and the lectures are no better. Avoid this professor at all costs!
Tests are hard if you do not read his textbook. He somehow always seems to hint that he's conservative & religious randomly in class which I found odd in a business class. If you are looking for an easy A do not take this class. If you're stuck w him you'll be fine just READ!!! It's so easy just do like 20 pages every night and take notes.
This professor was one of the worst professors I have ever had at UNT he doesn't really teach he reads more off of his "lectures" and the book that's required for this class is written by him. He also goes off topic and said we were all "human bast***d" the test are comprehensive at first but the final is over all the chapters with no reviews.
Professor Strutton made the class much more difficult than it needed to be. For each chapter you read there is a 50 question homework to go along with it. Exams are very difficult and he doesn't provide a clear exam review. Over the course of the semester he bombards you with condescending canvas reminders as well. Take another professor.
Do not take him ! he is horrible and is only selling the book that he wrote, which happens to have so many grammar errors. taking him during winter and you basically have no time to do anything but the classwork.
Weirdly religious textbook. When the tests were open book it wasnt so bad, but my class online got banned from using the notes during tests. The wording from the textbook doesnt match the homework, theres no review and being banned from using notes during the test made this class impossible. The questions are too specific to not use notes/the book.
Ridiculous # of hw questions for each hw (50/hw) & amount of questions FOR EXAMS (exam 1~50, exam 2~70, exam 3-final~100). I've taken so many important and justifiably difficult classes (acct 3110, math 1190/80, etc.) and this class will prob be my first C cus of how vague and how much irrelevant material is in the textbook the prof makes you buy.
I don't understand all the negative ratings. He says some strange things at times but that helped me continue to pay attention. I enjoyed him. He gave big curves but 80% of your grade are tests.
As a professor he is ok, his grading was fair and he gave plenty of chances to pass the class. But even though the class was fair it didn't change the fact that he is extremely rude and passive aggressive. I genuinely reccommend any other alternative to taking Professor Strutton. He managed to make a relatively interesting class feel like purgatory
Continuation The textbook he made us spend almost $100 on was poorly written and had a lot of grammatical errors and it glitched during the final exam while he was chilling in Italy on vacation. He doesn't care much about his student and rarely gives extra credit. Do not waste your summer on this. I had to try really hard for a B
Please don't take this class in person, worst professor I ever had. It's too bad I didn't have a choice but if I did, I would avoid this one. If you read other reviews they are true! Exams are 80% of your grade and HWs are 14 modules (50 questions each, with only one try). He offers no extra credit and no exam review, so you're screwed.
Strutton is the worst professor I've had at UNT. Even as a marketing major, the class provides no useful information, and his textbook is useless (but still must be ready to pass). He uses awful metaphors (ie: marketing is like gravity because it's everywhere) and contrived biblical allegory to try (and fail) to make points. Pick a different class
This was the worst professor I have taken. There are 14 modules (each w/ homework assignment due that is 50 questions) and 3 tests make up 80% (!) of your grade. The lectures didn't help and he provides no study material for any of the 3 exams. You have to basically memorize the textbook, that he wrote by the way, AND makes you pay $100 for.
This professor lectured very heavily and would go on a lot of tangents. It was hard for me to stay engaged in these lectures, and I just stopped going to them. His tests were a large portion of your grade and the final was worth two midterms. The homework is almost identical to the test though which is good for studying.
DO NOT take this professor, he does teach anything at all and the final is worth 2 midterms, he curves exams but that's the only good thing about this class with him.
Saw these reviews & was a little scared, but honestly his class was pretty good & easy. It was a fast paced class, so there were a lot of homework/tests back to back, but it was manageable. He gives a lot of extra credit (thankfully) & is pretty fair when it comes to grades. This class was stress free & I would take him again. It was an easy A.
Run! Not reasonable and test does not match notes or books!
If there are other professors to take this class with choose them! Grade is made up of the homework (50 questions each module, 14 modules), 2 tests, and the final (mandatory). There is hardly any curve or extra credit. Lectures are confusing and he goes off topic a lot.
Prof. Strutton is a funny and charming guy, you can tell he is passionate about his job, and life, which is inspiring to see from a professor. The assignments for the textbook are a bit long, but they are pretty simple. The class is straightforward, and the guy has some great jokes. He does tell personal stories, but they lighten the air, no harm.
He'san a-hole and he knows it. Class is easy if you do the work and hw quizzes take about an hour and theres 1/ week so those add up if you dont keep up with it. Answers are sometimes incorrect on the quizzes and you need to email him. Class can get boring when hes tired of standing and addressing the class so 3 hour lectures get tough. Curves test
He says a lot of words that ultimately don't mean anything in the end; they just leave you confused. 50 question modules. I've used the textbook a couple of times, his lectures just outline what the book is. His exams are questions plugged directly from homework questions, so write down the homework because he won't open the modules up again.
He had a stick up his derriere over cheating and apparently gave people a 0 if they looked away from the screen once, which I think is unhealthy for people's eyes. He also taught marketing through Bible quotes. At UNT, of all places. Maybe he should just go to the University of Dallas instead.
Prepare to be challenged in this class. The exams are heavily weighted and cover a lot of material from the pricey textbook. Though the prof can be odd, using resources like Unstuck AI alongside the lectures and homework helps manage the workload.
I really don't see why people have a negative view. In my opinion the people who have a negative view are just people who can't take simple lecture notes or are just lazy. homework is 50 questions per module but you have an entire 1-2 months to complete it, he's is cool and curves the test heavily, can easily get an A from just paying attention.
Dr. Strutton is a preacher in his spare time, so expect his lectures to resemble a sermon. His class is very easy if you just show up to class, read the book, and turn the homework into quizlets to study for the exams. Bonus if you participate often and introduce yourself to him; he'll be in your pocket all semester long if you do this.
His teaching style is frankly outdated. You can tell his age in his lectures, and fails to keep students engaged. He takes a strange liking to publicly embarrassing his students in front of the whole class. He's extremely nitpicky about things that don't affect your learning whatsoever, almost as if he just likes control.
This professor is genuinely the worst I've ever had in my three years of college. He is very unprofessional, bringing his religious and political beliefs into EVERY single class. It's difficult to attend a class when the professor is so unlikeable I don't want to hear him speak.
I would not take this again.
“The professor is really nice and caring. The tests are heavily based on the textbook he requires, and he gives a ton of extra credit. He also curves the exam. The quizzes are not really hard and you have a lot of time to do it. Just take him !
Do not take. ESPECIALLY if you are non marketing major. GPA will get cooked 100% He know's what he's talking about but the course structure is soooo cheeks. You have to prioritize this course over all others if you want the A
He sucks, do not take him. pain in the a** all semester
Professor Strutton is a great professor!. The class is very manageable as long as you read the textbook and pay attention during lectures. He explains the material clearly and does a great job of reinforcing key concepts. His lectures are interesting and often funny, which makes the class more engaging and easier to follow.
