Very funny
Very encouraging and helpful. Learned do much in his class. Lots of class participation. Write mostly about your own childhood and experience. Lots of good and helpful discussion. Wish he taught more classes. FUNNY and Cool!
He's so funny! I learned so much in his class. His tests aren't the easiest in the world, but they're not too bad. I got an "A" and hardly studied.
He is really funny and uses great stories to illustrate his points. Though he doesn't really prepare you for the test, for instance there is no outline or anything. There is only a mid-term and a final. But the test are not too hard.
Easy grades. But the classes could get very very boring. Be prepared for the assignments and presentation, they help a lot with your grades. Doesn't give good notes though. No more than 2 tests covering all the chapters!
Very cool guy, interesting and good sense of humor. Read the book and you'll get an A on the tests.
easy class if u take good notes. dont even need to read. i took the semester class. grades easy too. not to0 many assigements
Dr H Martin was a nice surprise! Midterm was open book/notes, but the final was closed book/notes. However, his tests are not too hard. There was also a presentation, plus 45 hrs of observation hrs. Some students didn't have the hrs completed, so he told them to finish it & turn it in to his box.
Pretty good teacher. lots of sarcasm and jokes about politician. Not much notes to take...basically just read the book on ur own but his stories about the class or subject or life is very interesting. Nice guy and if u actually read the book and do all the hw then it'll be an easy A.
great teacher! i learned a lot. i actually looked fowards to class every wednesday! his tests where somewhat difficult, and you do have to take a lot of notes if you want to get the most out of it. he's a funny guy, and does give very valuable examples to help you conceptualize certain theories.
This man is motivating, helpful, funny and you truly learn a lot.
Simply put, just take his class, even if you don't care about the subject, he is interesting and funny, and well worth the hours you will spend listening to him.
he's very funny. yes, everyone thought so. i liked him as a person, but not really as a teacher. he's very vague. directions were unclear. he'll let you turn in an assignment 3 weeks after it's due. lectures are usually interesting, i love the stories he tells. he's very sarcastic, very funny. even the tests are really funny.
he is really nice and the class is fun, I learned a lot from his class and the tests are easy. If you really interested in Psychology and love kids, you should take his class. you will love it~
Ha Professor Martin was my boy. He was hella funny and he doesnt like Bush which makes him that much better. I loved the class and wouldnt mind having him as a teacher again. He was probably cute in his earlier days lmao

Martin was a really cool teacher. I would definitely recommend him (unless you are a Bush loving conservative). He talks a lot about contemporary issues. I enjoyed my Intro. to Psych class so much I am going to take his Child Psychology course. Good Teacher :-)
Dr. Martin was one of my favorite profs at PCC. His lectures are fascinating and he truly wants to better his students. He will give you real life knowledge and touching personal stories. Class consisted of a few easy surveys about you, 2 multiple choice exams, and a short presentation on anything in childrens psych. Just take notes, you'll get an A
Great teacher, funny guy. Class was interesting so its not too hard studying for his tests. Gives easy hw assignments and is very helpful. Overall a good guy and very helpful. Test were moderatley difficult but it was fun all in all, worth taking, come on its psychology, psychology is cool.
he is full of sarcasm, all he does is complain about bush. his tests are hard, he doesnt prepare you that well
His lectures are interesting with clear and funny examples. In this developmental psychology course, you will learn more deeply about "you." We visitted the child care center and the senior center, wrote biography and reactions to some issues, analyze our developmental stages...which will let you learn more than a textbook can offer. He is good!
Fun class overall, though exams were more difficult than one would expect. Homework involved a lot of reaction papers and self analysis. Teacher has facinating stories to tell. If your politics lean toward the right you may get your feathers ruffled by some of his comments.
i think martin is a great professor. yes, he does go off on tangents about bush and the government. his humor can be offputting to people that take things too seriously. but his lectures are interesting and i learned a lot about psychology and child development. there isn't a whole lot of homework, mainly a big presentation on topic of your choice.
His class was pretty easy as far as hw goes, but I didn't really enjoy the way he taught the class. It's hard to pick out his nostalgic stories from what's really supposed to be in the course material. If you're nice and he likes you, he'll accomadate your needs and be more lenient- but if not, forget it.
I WAS THINKING I WOULD MAKE IT IN HIS CLASS BUT TO BE QUITE HONEST, HE IS A PICKY GRADER. I WONT SAY HE IS THE WORST TEACHER BUT LET'S JUST PUT IT THIS WAY, I'VE ONLY HAD A'S SINCE I STARTED COLLEGE, AND THIS SUCKER GAVE ME A C. I WAS SO PISSED OFF. HE GRADES HARD. YOU'LL HAVE A GOOD PAPER AND HE'LL GIVE U LIKE A B OR C
not a good teacher... not interactive at all... boring lectures n rude
Ok teacher. He is definitely not like I expected a teacher to be, he curses and is very active. He gets angry quickly and will let you know it if you’re the one who made him angry, but he don’t take it out on all the students. Explains the work well. Only problem is he references his time in the military allot and repeat his stories.
Dr. Martin is a great professor. I really enjoyed being in his class! He is very funny and you can learn a lot in his class. The tests are multiple choice and as long as you put some effort in the class you'll get a good grade. Taking this class was a great experience and I'd definitely take him again!!! Thanks Dr. Martin!
Honestly, I don't like the way he teaches. Most things I learned in this class are from my own reading. I hardly learned anything from his lecture. His tests are not super hard but not easy either. He gave us chances to get extra credits, and the pop quizzes are the extra credits too.
Even tough this class is very interesting if you like child development, but this professor is horrible. He is really arrogant and is always rude to the students that are not his favorites. He cusses throughout the class mulitple times and always picks on the students, and if the the student doesnt know something then he will make them look stupid.
His cussing and insults are unnecessary! Jokes may be funny at times but he mostly talks about IRAQ, Bush and the damn war. I would advise you to listen to his lectures though. Write what he lectures about and READ THE BOOK! His tests are tricky tricky since his tests are based on "which answer suits the questions BEST." I don't recommend him.
Incredibly cynical/overly critical. Pessimistic to a point where you're laughing not out of humor, but out of nervousness. READ THE BOOK -- its the only thing that will help you pass the class.
Best psych teacher at PCC by a long shot. Lectures are funny and interesting. Helps you when you need help, can be blunt but hey, some people deserve it. Take him for psych!!!
One of the funnest and most interesting classes I've ever taken! Yeah he goes off on tangents but they are usually about him being in Vietnam so it's cool. He has a great sense of humor and will let you turn in late assignments. His tests are okay, mostly on his lecture and only some on the text. I would recommend this guy for anyone taking Psych 1!
He is a good teacher. He knows a lot and has crazy stories. I thought he was funny at first but then i got annoyed by his comments about bush and the war. Some how sex would always come up too. He let people turn in late work so that was awesome. Tests were kind of confusing though. I thought i studied well, but then got a bad grade still. =[
inappropriate, spends most time lecturing on his personal life(divorce, mental health issues). rude. tests are based on broad, vague assertions from his lectures. DONT TAKE A CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR-YOU WILL REGRET IT.
Commanding persona, can be intimidating at first. You might be surprised of his language but get over it because he gives great lectures with high interest level. Wants honest, personal, deep thoughts in your essays. Tough grader. In Winter session he graded on a curve
HORRIBLE! This teacher is the worst psychology teacher at PCC! He is not a help at all. Very VERY judgmental and he will fail you. no homework. a few papers & one or two annoying presentations he's a old **** from the army or wherever.. who gives a crap! Doesn't make sense DO NOT TAKE HIM HORRIBLE!
He said not to rate him but I felt like it anyways...good, concise lectures but they hint at his very stubborn in his beliefs. READ THE TEXT BOOK! Lecture helps a lot as well...I got an A which I felt I deserved but I feel I could have done a little more in his class as well, I hope he felt I deserved it!
Class should be re-named life 101. Think of this course as a pre-requisite for a better understanding of life.
Dr. Martin is good. I got an A, and I really learned in his class :). You must attend class, listen to his lectures, and read chapters assigned to do well on the exams. Write your reaction papers very thoughtful, and substantial. He's funny too...
A very blunt professor. Rude at times but his materials are clear and interesting. Just take notes, attend every class and study. His tests are HILARIOUS. Recommended.
Don't let the 3.5 fool you, this guy is not easy. He is blunt, rude, funny, entertaining but talks too much about politics and not enough about what will be covered on the tests. Not a very clear class but like I said, entertaining. If you are willing to put in time and effort u should be fine. Very liberal teacher (pushes his politics on the class
One of the worst professors I have ever had! Very inappropriate. Easy teacher but not enjoyable at all.
Doc Martin was great. He is very skilled with his speech, and his lectures were always interesting even though i hate psych. Just dont take what he says personally, go to class, and take notes. Pay attention to what hes showing/saying, he's doing it for a reason. Great teacher, i learned a lot, i'd recommend him to anybody who's serious about schoo
does not really teach in depth but always tells story. be sure to read the textbook because all test questions come out of there! always tells his own stories that relate to the chapter that we are studying right now. okay easy class but be sure to read!
He's a pretty good teacher. No breaks- which is fine, except with a 3 hr class he could cut out about an hour if he would stop degressing and talking about himself. although I will say that he's a pretty interesting guy. He's fair and has a great sense of humor. A lot of work. read the book over your notes for the test.
just finished his winter term. suuuper funny guy. but dont get on his bad side. assignments are easy you just have to be honest and get creative with his projects.i got C's on his midternm and final but managed to get at N in the class cus of attendence and projects/homeowrk. great guy. great stories. i would recomend him.
Awesome teacher. Vietnam veteran. He tells it like it is. One of those people in life that really does their part. Very intuitive..will pick up on you if you're a slacker and won't hesitate to make sure the class knows it too..in a hilarious way! He genuinely cares about his students! You'll come out of his class really feeling like a million bucks
He was very unclear about what he expects from his students. He called his past students a bunch of cats and dogs. He marked students down for not thinking like him. I strongly not recommend anybody to have him as a teacher.
very informative and intellectual yet extremely opinionated and sometimes judgmental. attendance is mandatory. do NOT get on his bad side.. you will regret it. other than that, a funny guy who really knows what he's talking about but you need a sense of humor to understand where he's getting at.
Loved this class. Taught me so much about myself that I wasnt even neccesarily looking for. Dr. Martin is a great teacher and story teller and keeps you entertained. Tests are all multiple choice and if you read the book you should be fine. Assignments are fairly easy, just be honest and you cant go wrong. He wants to know about the real you.
did not like him he was mean
Easy professor but does not teach much. lots of cussing and if you are easily offended then dont be in his class. Easy class, pretty laid back.
Dr. Martin is a top tier professor. He doesn?t just mindlessly read off a PowerPoint. He has traveled the world and knows about many different cultures and people. He seamlessly incorporates this into his lectures. If you are someone who really wants to learn, I would highly recommend Dr. Martin. It?s like getting a UCLA education at PCC.
Awesome professor. Took this over the Summer so it had very long lectures (3 hours with no break) but Dr. Martin really kept the information interesting and fun. I would highly recommend! (Midterm & Final are much harder than you would think so be sure to study from the book really hard!)
Professor Martin is pretty intimidating at first. His humor is great, very entertaining. Homework assignments are easy. Test are pretty hard, you have to study and pay attention to his lectures.
it's the class of profanity. says F word a lot in about every class meeting. difficult exams, but everyone should be able get a B with just a little effort. To get an A u gotta understand the material rly well. oh and there's a nasty, individual presentation that is meant to lower ur grade..
He is smart, and the students who like to take the easy way out and dont understand different people, will not like him. He is very opinionated and does not care if you dont like him or not, just like students rarley care if teachers like them or not. His class is extremly easy if your not stupid and arrogant.
He's a pretty chill teacher hes really funny. usually starts class off with a joke or a story. Easy to get a long with and his classes aren't that demanding
Took class Fall 09. Relates well to students. Shows students how to use skills learned in military to reach their goals for college/life success. Definitely recommend for fellow veterans or family members of veterans.
Very understanding and good teacher. Always keeps the classes attention and is friendly. Hes fair and flexible with assignment due dates. Guaranteed A as long as you take notes and read the book. Being a veteran returning to school it was difficult for me, Doc Martins class was very helpful. I recommend all veterans attending PCC to take his class.
He is a very funny professor. Take lots of notes. This is a very sexy class.
I took him for psych 1 at pasadena High School, he was awesome. Before I took his class I had no confidencein myself, and after well I passed with an A. Dothe work study and pay attention during his lectures and you will pass. He is very funny too
Had Dr.Martin for 2 classes. He is a great prof. Down to earth, great sense of humor, knows the material and grades fairly. Read the text - (imagine that!)- you will have no issues. Also, take notes in class because not everything on the exam is from the text. Dr.Martin will also test on material he covers in lecture. Good overall.
Dr. Martin is the greatest! His lessons are both intriguing and entertaining (he's a very funny man). He also relates a lot of his personal experiences with his lessons, which I thought was great. I'd easily take another class with him, even if it's not required for my major. He's that good! Oh and p.s.... you do have to read the book. Got an A.
I found mandatory attendance a rather immature notion. Psychology is very interesting, but I would rather have just stayed home and read the book more. It is a straight forward class. I found his teaching style to be condescending. I respect Dr. Martin. He is a good man.
VETERANS ATTENDING PCC. You need to do Coun12 with Doc. Martin. Great sense of humor is very straight forward& no B.S teacher. Creative spin, class are fun. Need to take notes and read books. Coun12 is all about us (Veterans) succeeding in college and life. His class gave me all the motivation and confident to succeed. A highly recommendation for a
I had Proffesor Martin for Human Sexuality at Pasadena. He was a great teacher. No daily Hw. Just read on your own if u want to pass and like 3 papers for class that are based on great videos that arent around much these days. Great teacher, he jokes around and he invites you to partake in Veterans activities. This Spring I watched RESTREPO.
Awesome professor. This class should be turned into a stand up show because not only do you learn a great deal about psychology, but you will find yourself constantly laughing every single class. Would definitely recommend this professor to everyone.
I loved Dr. Martin. He has a bizarre but great sense of humor that some may take him offensively but that is not his intention. He really wants everyone to learn and care about your education. One of the best professors ever.....
He is a very fair and straightforward professor. He knows if you have put an effort on your work. He reads and corrects every sentence you write on your essay and he cares every student in order to make them be a good person. Read the book completely and the tests are based on the book and his lecture. I learnt a lot in his class. GOOD PROFESSOR.
an ok professor class is somehow interesting but if you are easily offended do not take him since he is extremely sarcastic and will notice if you get easily offended to the point he may pick on you.Tests are quite hard but if you study you'll do ok and there is a nasty presentation which lowers your grade and allows him to embarrass you in public.
Great class!
Funny guy. Average lectures. He can be mean . The presentation was worthless, imo he used the presentation to psychoanalyze his students. Read the book and you will pass.
I thoroughly enjoy Dr. Martin's Pscyh 1 class. I'm a fan of people that like to speak their mind and kill the social filters so this man really sums up to that. He offers a lot of wisdom and humor, which other reviewers say is abrasive but in all honesty that's truth to learning. The only difficulty is testing, but that's a given in any class.
He goes off tangent about nothing all time time. Discusses every single student essays out loud in class which has nothing to do with the students. His tests are easy as long as you pay attention and read. But good luck with his condescending attitude.
Although his lectures are long, and take up most of the class time, they are really informative and useful in comprehending the content of the class without really needing to read the book. His sense of humor is great, and keeps one awake through the long lectures. Barely any assignment, tests are pretty easy. I highly suggest him.
He fair, funny and he cares. Those who disagree are not good students.
Prof. Martin has to be one of my favorite professors by far. His honesty and sarcasm does not come in moderation so if you're sensitive, don't take it personally. He is really passionate about what he teaches and inspires his students to learn from the world and seek to see more of it. A great intellectual who loves what he does, profess. Take him!
Dr. Martin is one of the best professors I have taken at PCC, I love his humor, sarcasm & passion towards psychology. He encouraged a positive view of Psych over a negative one. I did not touch the book, and while I got a C in my AP Psych class in highschool, I aced this one. Guess I can consider Psych as a flame re-lit :) thanks Professor!
Professor Martin inspired me to pursue psychology. He is funny and sarcastic. He teaches you so much useful information that to this day I use in my other psych classes. Most importantly he teaches you so much about yourself. His lectures were always easy to understand and realistic to daily life.
Dr. Martin is a good teacher. You'll definitely learn a lot but you really do need to be prepared to do a lot of reading outside of class and go to all the lectures. I took him in Fall of 2016, we only had 3 tests and then the final. Tests were hard but the final wasn't accumulative.
He's a good teacher but the class set up isn't the best for everyone. We only took 3 tests for Fall 2016, so they were like 4 chapters of material. If you miss a class you'll end up behind because he explains psychology better in person then in his book.
He was a good teacher at first, but later on in class I realized I wish dropped the class before it was too late. He's funny but he like to joke around students work out loud. Took only 3 test but were unit test. The book is somewhat help but better off taking it with another teacher
Incredible Professor. Show up to class. Be attentive and take notes, as you would any other lecture. Read the book (if a book is required). Actively listen, he is quite impressively intelligent. I took away a lot of value from his lessons! He is highly respectable and I recommend the class to anyone who is ready to learn.
He is funny. Not a tough grader. Take notes in class because his test are basically stuff he talked in class. If you missed class, you could read the book. He does long lectures tho. He seems like a likable and intelligent person. Also he's against Donald Trump XD Tests are not difficult. He tried to make the class entertaining.
The man goes off topic and constantly makes fun of republicans . Wasted money on book thats never used in class, two presentations are required for this class .
This guy is living in the 80's. He peddles false information and really doesn't understand the importance of science when it comes to psychology. I'd say there's about a 50% chance that whatever he said was misinformation or completely false.
Professor Harold is an amazing instructor. He definitely keeps you awake. Despite the fact that he talks about politics his lectures are great and interesting. You do have 3 reflection papers super easy, one 5 minute presentation on child development topic super easy. You also have 3 exams,5 chapters each I got an A.
He was one of the best professor I ever had at Pasadena city college I encourage people to take his class his and interesting guy
Took him part of my veterans cohort program. Great for veterans as he is a veteran. You cant be lazy if you want an A in his class. Very interesting topics. Fascinating guy, funny.
Professor Martin is probably my favourite professor at PCC, he clearly has incredible psychology knowledge, and he will really inspire you to better understand yourself through the content. Hes hilarious, has a very interesting life story, and hes a great teacher. Just make sure to study before his 3 tests, the writing assignments are all easy
Seeing as lectures are 3+ hours long, once a week, he managed to make the time go by painlessly. Really funny professor, very knowledgeable. As long as you put in even a tiny bit of effort, you'll do well in this course.
Considerate yourself fortunate to have the opportunity to take his class. His lectures are funny, not PC (which I appreciate) and full of interesting facts. I learned a lot in his class and from his experiences. He teaches old school style, so if you are sensitive, he is not for you. Go to class, read, and do assignments, you'll get an A.
Don't take him. he changes instructions the day its due, grades really slow and is never clear of anything. Everyone was always confused and blames online classes.
This professor is a smart-aleck. He will treat you in a condescending manner and he focuses too much on political correctness. He is very stuck up for someone who works at PCC.
Boomer who does not know what is going on online.
idk if hes changed in the past few years with all these reviews, but this class wasnt great at all. felt like a lot of favoritism, the first few weeks being online were MISERABLE bc he clearly didnt know what he was doing, doesnt post grades, doesnt know canvas, very condescending, never clear with instructions, not an enjoyable class at all.
I started the class with a lot of respect for professor Martin. However following the midterm and eventual drop in class attendance from various students, he became very bitter and let his attitude control his decision making. Never before have I met such a snarky, disrespectful, and downright rude teacher in my entire life. I hope wife #5 is well.
I dropped this halfway because I wasn't learning anything. I didn't like him either. He would make the weirdest jokes and tried too hard to be funny instead of actually teaching. There's a 5 minute presentation too. He would call me out in the middle of class like if this was high school. Everyday the class attendance seemed shorter, no wonder.
He never post grades on Canvas. He'll go on 20 minute rants about the most basic political opinions (if I wanted to hear a worse version of CNN I'd watch Fox News). I could excuse the terrible teaching skills if he was at least a nice person, but he's not. He's incredibly rude and condescending to his students. The worst professor I've ever taken.
Professor Martin often strays from the course material and discusses politics and unrelated topics during lectures. He doesn't upload grades to Canvas, so you must calculate your grade manually and submit work in person.
Doc's teaching style is based on personal preferences. Additionally, The field of psychology is diverse, encompassing various sub-disciplines such as clinical psychology, cognitive psychology. He is a well-known psychologists who has made significant contributions to the field. Highly Respected amongst National Veteran organizations.
Svengali. Cult of personality. IYKYK. I've known this man 4+ years. Game recognize game; I suspect Stolen Valor of this phony. Claims to be liberal; full of contempt and reproach for art, music; independent thought. Caricature of what he perceives to be an inspirational leader. Stroke his enormous ego; you'll be fine. Give my best to wife #5.
He wasn't clear about what he wanted in his write ups and when you turned it in he would then grade harshly based off of criteria he had not mentioned.
He was never clear about homework assignments and how he wanted them done.
Professor Harold Martin is an exceptional instructor who truly cares about his students success. His lectures are clear, and well structured, making even complex topics easy to understand. He encourages participation and creates an inclusive classroom environment where every student feels valued. I highly recommend taking his class.
Doc Martin's class was fun and learned a lot about psychology. It was a particularly easy class. You have to study for the test but he gave a lot of hints on what will be on the test. Many of people complain about his teaching style but it was pretty straight forward. Lecture, side stories (which tend to be long winded), homework and test.
Professor Harold F. Martin is a master of psychological arts, handling business through an unwavering lecture. His way is rooted in the foundations, forging a strong theoretical blade in the mind of the student before advancing to more complex battles of thought. Under his guidance, understanding is not fleeting—it is honed to endure.
