He sucks, he puts you on the spot!! Very hard
Very demanding, forces you to think! If you wrong but you can explain and support your point you will do fine. Hard class, but he is a good (and demanding) teacher. Did I mention that he is demanding?
He makes students interested in learning. If you have questions about his lecture, you shold ask him. He always welcomes student's questions.
Nice beard
HE PUTS YOU ON THE SPOT A LOT. ATTENDENCE IS NOT EVEN REQUIRED, SO IF YOU ARE GOOD AT TEACHING YOURSELF BUSINESS LAW YOU COULD GET AN A+ IF YOU WANTED TO.
If you want to learn about business law, he is the man to teach it to you. It is a tough course and he is a tough professor, but he is very fair. Study in groups. Utilize the practice exams. Read your cases prior to each class. He is a great guy!
He puts you on the spot
He is demanding but fair. He teaches Business Law and Income Tax. Both are very demanding courses. Read the material and participate in class. Always be ready. He is an A-one instructor!
Attacked me on the 1st day!Made one girl cry cauz she said she got paid under the table. Then called me a Nazi?Told me that no mata what my final grade was it would be lowered by a full letter grade based on an answer in class.Whos the real Nazi?
If you want to get an Accounting degree at BSC, just study study study. If you can't hack this class you don't deserve to pass.
Nazi use of Socratic method
Why is my rating gone? I'm not allowed to say that he's arrogant and rude? So we're only supposed to praise him then....don't think so.
If you act somewhat interested during the lectures and you appear to be paying attention in class he wont pick on you as much. Showing up for the 3 hour lecture without doing ANY of the reading is a suicidal thing to do anyway. just read the cases
I think Professor Silverman is a great guy. All you really need to do is talk to him like a person. He is EXTREMELY intimidating, I was scared to death of him, but then I went to his office hours and talked a bit and think hes just great, but do your work
as long as you do the readings before class and act like you are interested you will do fine... he is a really good professor, but he is still very hard
we won't cover it in class, and I eon't answer any questions about it, but this chapter will be 40% of your final. what were we paying him for?!?!
Intimidating as all hell. Socratic method. Very tough exams. Scales like mad. If you are willing to do the work, you will consider him the best professor you ever had. If you are lazy, you'll hate him.
the course started out pretty rough, but then it got better. I think mostly everyone has an idea what hes will be like even before the 1st day of class, so if you expect the class to be hard when you sign up, wont that make you try harder?
Picks on you a lot, if you read the cases you will be fine for class. You need to understand the cases as well because the tests are cases. If you read the cases and get the answers wrong then he picks on you even more.
Very tough. If you do the work and put alot of effort you will do fine. If you don't it will be hell. He is a great teacher and really cares about his students
Withdrew from class because I would rather stick my fingers in a pencil sharpener. This man is horrible. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! He makes you seem dumb if you don't know the stupid question he asks you. Even if you do know the answer, he finds a way to make you seem dumb. Worst experience at BSC.
Do the work or he will chew you out and make you look like an idiot
poor teacher...thinks he's Socrates..do us a favor,take the hemlock

Everyone tried to scare me of him before I took the class. Just do you work and you will pass, but isnt that why you are at college anyways? expects you to read, so read, and you will do fine. tests are not that tough, just listen in class and review chapters. I'd take him for B-law 2(if needed)
all i can say is he is ten times harder in tax than business law... so be careful
needs to spend more time going over impossible exam questions rather than trying to make students look stupid
Scary Harry !!!
Silverman was always in class ready to teach, he is very smart and expects the students to be that way. I never studied more and seen less results, I ended up with a C but can relate a lot of the material I learned to real world situations. So I see his method worked. You be the judge
Great Prof. always asks challenging questions during class. Be prepared, read the book, and make sure you do lots of excercises. once you've done all these, you will be fine. He is always there to answer student's questions, when you need him to write recommendations, he is more than glad to help.
He down grades you every class. Do not take him. He will make your life a living hell.
Considers himself a 'gatekeeper', will fail students who don't try or cheat. Be prepared to answer in class, he knows your name!
gets his jollies out of calling on people in class... he's an arrogant lawyer and not a teacher
The only students who don't like him are the ones not doing the work. Socratic method frightens most, but you realize everyone is getting embarassed - so you get used to it. You will remember more from his class than any other class you could ever take. Fascinating man if you give him a chance.

He thinks he is teaching apporpriatelty but unless you learn from being made an ass of dont take him.
The guy is obviously a jerk who loves to make students uncomfortable, but you do learn, so maybe all the suffering is worth it. He grades on a scale which is based on how all his students perform, so if you all bomb, your actual grade wont be all that bad. Know your stuff and you should be fine.
The people on here who seem to be intimidated are pretty weak. His class wasnt that hard, and the concepts werent even that difficult. Its a level 300 and a chapter a week is nothing. Everyone on here who says he is terrible have really low self esteem and should ask themselves why they are in college at all if they arent willing to do the work
Show up, read the chapters, do the cases, and bring ur brain and common sense and you'll do fine. Hes not a bad guy like everyone says he is.He knows the class is difficult and does not hurt you if you make a mistake! Great scale on tests!
One of the best classes I've ever taken. He has clear expecations and if you can read, you can live up to them. Come to class prepared and you will be fine. Tell him that you don't know an answer, don't pretend that you do.
best teacher at bsc, yea he's quite intimidating but he's a tough guy who makes u think. He's actually very nice and easy to talk to if u have a question about something. just make sure u READ and understand the cases and u'll be fine
Great prof. Yes hes tough, but if you are an accounting major you shoudl be able to deal with it. Tests are extremely difficults but heavily scaled. Wants to to learn the material well, contrary to what many believe does not want you to fail (if that was true, he wouldnt scale)
No, actually he is a jerk. I did fine in his class, infact I got an A, and I don't think it was worth it. He loves being an ass, and then talks about how ethical and moral he is. Good Luck!
Review: Professor unclear and often rude. Expectations of exams far exceeded class preparation. Professor seems to get off on impressing 20 year olds with his paper Chase shtick. Note to Professor, Socratic teacing , if done incorrectly leads to confusion.
Rude, arrogant Professor does not prepare class in an acceptable manner for his unrealistic exams.
TERRIBLE TEACHER!!!!!!!!!! They should def find another professor to teach this course.
he can be very rude 2 students, but he's like that 2 mostly every1 so its not that bad...but tha way he teaches tha material, is he uses good examples and cases, so ur not bored...he def. knows his stuff and is very good at teaching it...i learned alot from him...
Silverman is by far one of the most "not by the book" professors in bridgewater state college I have ever had. He uses his arrogance to force students to read the required material and to learn, best professor at BSC.
A good professor should be able to expound on a given subject and make clear what is complicated and perplexing. This professor did none of the above. His teaching methods came across as self serving to his oversized ego.
I dont know why everyone gets all offended by this guy. Yea, he makes fun of you, but only if you give a blatently stupid answer. And it's all in good fun. The class requires some work, but if you dont get offended it's actually pretty interesting. And the scales are huge.Just dont take the guy too seriously, and dont get insulted, and its fine.
This class is not easy. I learned alot and actually enjoyed this class. Students shouldn't take his comments or cracks personally. Be warned, you must be prepared before class. If not, you deserve to be ridiculed by him.
Honestly I retained very little course information. The more he talked the more he confused students. Many pop quizes so be sure to be in class, because there are no make ups.
U need the proper prereqs before heading in to this guy's class. And I don't mean anything offered at BSC. If you're a full time student and u work, like I do, there just isn't enough time to learn the basics and then attempt to understand all the cases fully before class time. My 400 lvls were a breeze in comparison. @LEAST 50% drop rate by week3
keeps you interested. challenges you
Very difficult material, but he makes you own it, not just memorize it. If you don't like challenging material then become a liberal arts major and stop complaining! Also had him for Tax and that was even more difficult. However, I learned more in his classes than in I ever did in an "easy" class. You get out of it what you put into it_Great prof!
Read the chapters and the cases and you will do fine. He's an ass because he knows he doesn't have to be nice to us, by law, so just deal with the rude comments he gives you. He will call on you if you do not like to be called on, but if you actually understand the material and raise ur hand he will ignore you. Overal its alright
He does somewhat give the impression of being more hardcore in failing students than he really is. Just read everything so that you know it, take heavy notes on the cases, and pay attention in class. He will ask for your opinion, then another student, then you again to trick you into thinking you're wrong. Quiz first class on US politicians.
Silverman knows his stuff. However it is a very intimidating classroom setting, especially if you didn't read the cases. I learned a lot from him, but i'm glad its over. Bring your thinking cap, and be prepared to be put on the spot...if you read all cases and understnad the concepts you should be fine.
Silverman has a funny way to manipulate you into thinking your wrong in every question you answer during class. Thus, his exams are too unrealsiatic, not given proper time to complete, and since you are manipulated all semester into thinking your answers are wrong;killing your grade and time to finish! Liberal idiot, will fail u at his expense!
The class sucks no lie but there is nothing u can do when he's the only one that teaches it. Be prepared to be embaressed in class cause he will do it and basically call you stupid it sucks
STAY AWAY he's horrible!!! if you have to take this class take it at a community college and transfer your credits!!! soooo unrealistically hard and the professor is the rudest person ever
He is not as bad as people say. If you read the book and listen in class it isn't hard, it's just a lot to remember. He scales tests and gives a lot of partial credit.
Yes he's abrasive and he knows he's a gate keeper but he wants to think before you speak. Read and remember the cases and subject matter you'll find that he doesn't call on you as much. If you don't do the reading just prepare to be embarrassed and called on more and more to motivate you. I don't think he's as bad as people make him out to be.
Good professor, very smart, agreeing with everyone from before he can be a complete ass...however he can be pretty funny too. He tends to pick on stupid people so don't be stupid and do the reading. Oh and the tests are a **** but you end up gaining a lot from the class.
The only professor teaching this mandatory course so stuedents have no other choice than to enrol, empowering him to treat students rudely and obusively. Makes a game of publicly reading student complaints. This is what our parents pay taxpayer money on.
All of the people on this site who wrote comments about how hard this class is, did not read the cases. If you read the cases and understand the concepts before class you will be fine. Very good professor.
Awesome professor. Cares about subject matter and makes it enjoyable to learn. If you don't like his teaching style it's because YOU weren't prepared. If you don't believe that you're only fooling yourself. Exams are demanding but scales accordingly.
Excellent, hard-working and caring professor with a lot of integrity. Cares about students and wants to help them learn. Delivers a harsh wake-up call to the clueless and the slackers-but this is much, much needed at BWS. Not an easy class-you must read the book and attend the lectures. BWS lucky to have this prof. Wish he taught other classes.
The hardest professor I've ever had. He is VERY intimidating for shy students, especially those who hate any sort of public communication. He calls on students at random and if you don't know the material, he makes you feel ignorant for not knowing it. His exams are ridiculous. You MUST study like crazy. I recommend taking it at another school.
He teaches in an unconventional way, **** when asking questions, but he makes you know the material by scaring you into doing the work. Guy thinks he knows everything and that he is never wrong, he is a typical lawyer, just ask him 1000 questions every day, he will ignore you after that. Bases your grade on whether he likes you or not.
Horrible teacher. Thinks that he knows everything and will make you feel stupid, or as he puts it "ignorant", if you don't know as much as him. Tests are immensley hard. Avoid his classes if possible.
Retired lawyer teaches like a lawyer. He doesn't lecture. Instead, he uses the "Socratic method." You can intensely read the material but still feel stupid in class. I can see him as a good guy outside of class, buuuut his way of teaching is... ::shivers:: I'll say this. At least he's not a retired drill sergeant who decided to teach.
MISS/MR, DID YOU READ THE CASE? Read the cases, know your major, and watch the news. He is actually pretty funny once you set aside the Socratic method. Get ready for unannounced quizzes. WRITE DOWN EVERY SINGLE EXAMPLE HE SAYS IN CLASS.
If you read the chapters in the book it's really not all that bad. Tests are hard but scaled quite a bit. If you don't read the chapters then you're in trouble. Calls on random students so students always have to pay attention.
Three words... SOB. Doesn't take attendance, but trust me its mandatory. Tests = HARD. Read your cases like 5 times. Never to mention he's the only prof that teaches this class and its manditory for graduation. "I have tenure!"
Doesn't teach. He plows through the material. Tests are ridiculously tough. You can understand the material and examples in class and still bomb the test. He has a good sense of humor and imagine him to be a great guy out of class. If you are top 5% of the class, you'll love taking him... otherwise, dig a trench and get your hard helmet on.
READ THE BOOK. If you read all of the chapters then the tests will be simple since there is always a large curve that takes into account people who never read. This should make it a hard earned yet easy A.
READ THE BOOK! he is really not that bad of a teacher. he just actually forces you to think which some peope take as being rude. Read the book, know what your talking about and be up to date on the news! If you put the effort in youll be perfectly fine. his class makes you think, i actually enjoyed it.
Know's what he is talking about. Tests are very hard but he scales them a good amount. If you keep up with the cases in the book you should understand the material.
READ! he expects you to read before the class. He asks a lot of questions about the readings and expects you understand what you read. He gives real life examples of the problem and will change it up a bit aand try to have you solve it and figure out with the ruling would have been. it is hard to keep up with everything but easy to pass
Very interesting class, just keep ahead in the readings and its not that bad.
Other students will try to scare you, but Professor Silverman REALLY isn't that bad (and this is coming from a HUGE wimp! Seriously!) He's not scary. What makes ppl not like him is he'll call on you during class-- kinda like High School. He's an EXTREMELY lenient grader though. Support your idea and he'll give you points.
He is a great teacher. Challenges students thus forcing them to learn. You do have to read the book but thats the only hw. Pop quizzes on readings too. Good guy. He will deduct your overall grade for bad ethics/morals so be smart in class discussion.
Silverman is a great teacher, and although he may come off brutal and blunt at first it's really only a scare tatic to weed out lazy students. This is one class that I can honestly say I learn something, and even if I obtain a bad grade or not I can come out truly feeling more educated than I was before I took this class.
I enjoy the class when he doesn't call on me. I'm not sure if he will be teaching next semester.
Professor Silverman is just excellent. His classes are engaging and entertaining. You will learn and you will be forced to do things that are so worthwhile to do in any course or in any job. You shouldn't be allowed to graduate if you don't take this course.
Everything you heard about Silverman might be true, but if you take his class you will be a better student, and certainly a better business person. For those who don't like a challenge you shouldn't take Silverman, but you probably shouldn't be in college either. BSU is lucky to have him.
After hearing him from down the hall for three semesters and dreading B-Law, I went in prepared for the worst. Thing is, you don't have to do everything right, just outperform most people. You're graded against your peers, and since most people at BSU are slugs, it's not hard to do the reading the night before and pull down a B or better.
On 1st day, he warned the class that he knows he's a hard professor and he loves it. B Law is hard and his exams are hard but scaled a lot which helps. Read chapter and participate and you'll be ok. Although intimidating, I like Silverman. He means well. Loves students go to his office hours. Class is hard but he's a great professor. Learned a lot.
STAY AWAY. ALthough he is the only professor at BSU who teaches this, take it somewhere else! I learned NOTHING! He's also probably the rudest, most ignorant know-it-all I have ever met. He randomyl calls on you and if you don't know the answer he will call you stupid and ignorant infront of the entire class. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Silverman is intimidating and his class is really hard but in the end, it was worth taking him. He's a great professor who has a lot of knowledge. He is different from office hours and class but if you see him in office hours, he knows you more in class. Class is hard but you learn a lot. If you read chapter/participate, you will be fine.
Hated him the first 4 weeks. Then I actually started reading the chapters. Everything he talks about in class is exactly what is in the book. I still don't like him because he is a raging Democrat, but I got through his class because he is a good teacher. Good luck.
This class is SO HARD. It sucks he is the only teacher for this class. I dreaded this class. He is ruthless.
I enjoyed taking this class. Professor Silverman is very knowledgeable in this subject. He is fair as long as you prepare yourself for every class.
All you have to do is read the assigned chapter, show up, & be able to give an educated response to his questions in class. So simple! Prof. Silverman is very rude on the 1st day of class. But if you read the chapters & respond to questions, he'll be nice to you after that. Very funny man! Many dropped the class. But I looked forward to attending.
If I took this class with my undergraduate mindset I would probably get a C. However, I am years past my undergrad and my effort for my education has changed. Silverman wants you to participate and learn. So you have to read the chapters before each class and be ready to discuss. There is no way around it, just do the work.
By far the worst professor you will ever take. He calls everyone ignorant on day one, when in fact he is the ignorant one. Tries to be funny - only the brown nosers will laugh. Wicked hard class. Lots of reading. Lots of little quizzes that don't count for much. Midterm and final are big parts of your grade, as is participation.
Show up, read the chapter, outline the cases and put in some effort. Doesn't ask for anything that would be considered unreasonable of a college student. Just try... you'll do fine. Very clear teacher. People who say he is hard or unfair are just looking for an easy A. Teachers like this are what make a degree more than just a piece of paper.
Show up having read the chapters, not just once though make sure you read them and know the cases by heart almost. Raise your hand and participate and you will do fine. Also highlight and take notes as you read, it is impossible to take notes during class
Great guy, very off putting at first. BUY THE BOOK, you cannot succeed in this class without the book. He scales the tests. Although attendance is not mandatory I would highly recommend attending. The test is based on the text and things that we discussed in class. He doesn't want you to fail. Class participation is 30% of the final grade
Silverman is hard. But you learn so much from this class. He is different from his class and in office. The people who complain here are the ones looking for easy A. He provides a challenge but he doesn't ask much just to read and participate. He is only rude to people who don't care. Put in effort and you'll be ok. You won't regret taking him.
He's not as bad as everyone says. He's actually a very nice man. He'll answer every email and do everything he can to help you. Very intimidating the first class but after that he warms up. It's a hard class because it's difficult concepts, but you will learn a ton. He's very full of himself but he knows his stuff. I'd definitely take him again.
How a school could hire a professor who blatantly disrespects his students and behaves so immature and rude is beyond me. He expects you to know everything about everything and calls you ignorant if you don't. Worst professor ever!
Terrible. This professor is arrogant and cocky. He thinks he knows everything and says students should be challenged during his class but all I can think about is how much I hate him. He insults his students and swears during class. Very distracting. I'll be going to the dean if his behavior doesn't improve. I hope you read this professor!
He's the hardest professor I have had at BSU. If you aren't up to date with current events or failed to read the assigned homework, he will openly mock you in front of the class. That being said, he's also the best professor at the university. I learned more every day in that class than all my other classes combined. Actually study and you'll pass.
Only two tests in the whole class so you better do good on them. That is all you do. He thinks its the students that cant handle his class but really its him. Horrible teacher and he should not take pride in how bad of a teacher he is... I was really interested in this class before I had him.
Brutal. Rudest and most arrogant professor I have ever met. Do not take unless you like being ridiculed. Also is a obnoxious liberal who says that ethics is up to the beholder but, gets to fail you if you cheat, just hypocritical. I do not promote cheating, I just feel that ethics is a major portion of where law came from but, liberal scums don't
Professor Silverman gets a bad rep because his class is difficult. He is one of the best professors at Bridgewater. You will leave his class understanding the material and if you're not going to school for that reason, you shouldn't be there. If you show up to class, do the reading, and participate you'll definitely pass his class.
Professor Silverman is an excellent teacher once you get past the initial shock of the first day. He thinks that other professors grade too leniently and goes out of his way to scare students about grading and workload but the exams are scaled and arent too difficult. He picked on the inexperienced finance majors which was hard to watch.
Prof Silverman expects you to read and pay attention. It is not an easy A, but read, read, and read again!! I found the class to be exceptionally interesting. It also helps to pay attention to current events!!
Tbh, his class wasn't bad but I can see why a lot of people dislike his ways of teaching. I did not do so well in his class but I'm glad I passed & won't have to re-take like most people. His exams are tough & his lectures are like court rooms since he's genuinely into the policies & laws of business. Requires lots of analytical thinking & reading.
Silverman is the best professor I've ever had. He'll scare the crap out of you on day one. After that, just do the assignments, participate in class, and ASK FOR HELP. Silverman is big on students doing their best to understand the assigned reading, but if you've tried your best and you still don't understand, he's more than happy to help you.
Silverman is best professor at BSU hands down. For people calling him out, they're just looking for the easy A. He's a tough professor who makes you work for your grade. But he doesn't ask much just top participate and read the chapter. Take advantage of office hours. Loves helping people out. Going to miss his class. You will not regret taking him
If you're looking for an easy A, this is not the class. If you're looking to learn, take this class! He's TOUGH, but you will learn so much from him. He challenges his students, but always willing to help. Your participation counts as basically an exam grade, so just pay attention in class and READ the chapters. If you do your work, you'll be fine.
He is the meanest teacher ive ever had. Im literally scared to raise my hand because of his response. If you dont know the answer he will make fun of you and make you feel stupid.
Honestly, one of the most critical, demanding, and mean professors I've ever had. Every question is a mind boggle and if no specific terms or definitions are used, you're answer is invalid, ridiculed, and absolutely shamed. However, he does have a nice way of connecting real life examples to the text.
Best professor have ever heard, if you are looking for an easy grade then this class is not for you, he's very hilarious and he makes the class fun. I studied hard and it paid off. Best class have ever taken so far.
This class was too easy and provided no intellectual challenge for me. No homework, No writing assignments. I read each chapter one time right before class and got an A. He is an arrogant man who thinks too highly of himself. Because of this, I would answer his questions with questions concerning the subject matter to stump him and it was funny.
