Harpreet is usless when she is trying to teach a concept. The discussion in class doesn't go with anything on the exam. I would NOT recommend this prof for anyone for any class!!!
Her rules for the classroom are retarded. Acts as if we are still in high school. Unclear about any topics she covers.
She judges students on how often they attend her class. Her examples are limited (uses youth gangs for evvvveeerrryythinnnngg). Her english is poor, making it extremely difficult to comprehend. She is brutal and does not like when people question her.
Young persons with Harpreet was awesome. Her exam study notes were really helpful for the midterm and final, group assignments were also easy. Awesome prof!
Harpreet is ok. She is pretty lenient as far as assignments and if you put in the effort you will get a decent mark. Her midterms and finals are relatively straight forward so long as you attend class and read the text. Difficult to understand and her classes are very boring. I personally don't enjoy her as a teacher but her class is tolerable.
horible, she just can not teach
Probably the worst prof I have ever had in the program. She is so boring, it was hard keeping my eyes open in the class. I didn't learn a thing! It was hard to follow her outlines, she was never clear about what she wanted. I would not recommend this class to anyone
Teacher is very unclear
I would not recommend her at all. Boring class, unclear with information etc, hard to understand, just an overall bad teacher.
OMG, The first time I had her she was great, now I am regretting having her again. With her poor english it makes it really hard to understand her.
Cannot teach. Very unclear, can't understand her english. Class is really, really boring!
She is really easy teacher. If you go to her class on time and hand in your assignments on time you will get really good marks in her class. She is okkk
You dont learn very much in her classes, but they are really easy.
She is friendly and outgoing. She seems to try hard to help students get the most out of her classes, but falls short in some areas. The actual lecture can be dry and dull, and her writing on the chalkboard can be difficult to follow at times (scattered). That being said, I still learned a lot about youth and the youth justice system.
She seems to be knowledgable in the subject but she has a VERY hard time communicating the content to her students. Her lectures are pretty boring and sometimes difficult to sit through.
She does grasp the understanding of what she is teaching, however due to her lack of the English language I often have to resign to using the textbook. I wouldn't recommend this prof, but the material is fairly straightforward.
Harpreet was ok for intro to research methods. She is very helpful and clear on what she wants on midterms/exams, gives you an outline and goes through it. Sometimes unclear for papers/assignments. She knows TONS about young offenders!
Harpreet is a great professor. She has a ton of experience in the subject and will look favorably on you if you show her respect. Easy to get an A in her classes.
This class is easy! Harpreet does try her best to make the class interesting. The material in the class is quite boring so it is hard to pain attention or even attend her class. Like someone else commented you show some respect and it will be easy to get an A in her class. At least she tries to do her best.
She is an easy marker and good teacher. I guess some people had a hard time to understand her but I had no trouble. Good teacher. Get her if you can because she'll give you a good mark if you try.
Harpreet is very approachable, knowledgeable, and concerned with her students success. Her class and assignment goals were VERY clear. Her pre-exam reviews were the best I had. She responds to student concerns and demonstrates flexibility. People have commented on her English and those comments are ridiculous. I would take another class with her.
Overall good teacher. She is always willing to help make assignments better. Its up to the students whether or not they take this opportunity. she was much better at teaching this class than diversity.
Terrible class. Her mid-term is the ONLY midterm I have received less than an A on. I'm talking a 20% drop. She's giving us a "make-up" test for 2 questions on the midterm because so many students complained, but it will not likely change the grades by much. Her expectations are incredibly high for the poor quality of her lectures and power points
Her english is terrible. Her expectations are way too high for the poor quality of lectures and poor organization skills in regards to powerpoints. Never promotes any sort of discussion at all, actually ends it if it begins. Don't like her. Very judgemental. If I had a choice I would NEVER have her as a prof again.
She is not a very good teacher at all, extremely hard to understand, and her lectures are terrible. I would not take a class with her ever again unless I absolutely had too! We all did so bad on the mid-term she gave us a "make up" midterm that would only give us and extra 3.95 marks. This is only class I have ever been failing.
She knows her stuff, but her lectures are boring and she's very quiet. I don't have a problem understanding her but you could tell students lost respect for her after the midterm (graded incredibly low compared to other CRJS classes). No one wanted to be there. Buy the txt. I did last minute to make sure I do well on the final to keep my GPA.
Horrible lectures. Horrible teacher. Horrible and inconsistent grader. Opinionated and BORING.
The worst professor of all time. Opinionated and boring. Horrible and inconsistent grader; especially if you don't agree with her opinions. Her lectures are torturous. Horrible class taught by an even more horrible teacher.
Wasn't that bad, it definitely could have been worse. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was her marking scheme. It was a little unfair, and I don't think many people liked her class. But I still did well! Just pay attention, study hard, and read the txt.
I do not understand the low rating for this professor, yes, her english is not the greatest, but you can still understand what she is saying. Aulakh’s assignment are clear, and she is also an easy marker. Her exams test your knowledge but are still no trouble, and Harpreet is always willing to look over papers and talk to students. A great Prof
She is a really nice prof. Her classes aren't the most exciting but she shows quite a lot of videos which is nice. She's an easy marker as long as you write something remotely intelligent and will help you with your assignments if needed. Just write what you know she wants to hear and you'll get a good grade
Ridiculously boring classes. She's not very helpful, but the class is easy enough.
Harpreet is nice enough, but my god is she difficult to understand. The thick accent combined with the consistent spelling/grammar errors in her slides makes for a very distracting and dull lecture. Avoid her class if possible.
Worst class I've ever had. I have never dreaded a class so much. The lectures, like usual are long but because all she does is read off the slides they are painful to sit through. She's extremely difficult to understand and her grammar in her slides and handouts are awful. I will avoid her at all costs in the future.
Really easy teacher, assignments aren't hard. If you show up you should be able to do a good job.
Harpreet was a wonderful prof. She lets you go in a week before your paper is due and lets you know what you should change (DO THIS). She gives reviews for both her midterm and her final, which are extremely helpful. She has in-class assignments that you do with a partner, easy grades.
Although not the worst prof out there, I feel like she could have done a better job in presenting the course material. The lectures were painful to sit through which made it hard to stay motivated and even come to class. I would not take her again.
I don't see why Harpreet has so many negative comments. I showed up, listened, did what was expected, and did great. Her English is not perfect and her lectures go to the last minute of class every week, but she is a very sweet woman. She was very straightforward in her expectations and offered clarification when asked. I would take her again!
Harpreet can sometimes be very unclear and confusing but it's honestly not that bad. Her lackluster English was annoying sometimes but did not hamper my understanding. The big thing for me is that I experienced a tragedy in the middle of the semester and she BENT OVER BACKWARDS to accommodate me. Such a nice lady.
Harpreet is a great professor, I really liked her classes and opposite to previous comments, she is easy to understand. She's willing to help you if you're willing to take the time to go see her. If I could take another class with her, I would.
She's a great prof, easy to communicate with, and gives good amount of feedback. Barley used the text book so do not bother buying it, received a pretty decent grade in the class as well. I don't mind taking another class with her again
Good Teacher. Easy A! Just try a bit and you will be fine. Only went to 50% of her classes. Dont judge her.
Harpreet is an awesome prof! Took 2 of her classes and never bought the text and passed with A's. Put in effort and she will reward you well.
Had her for two CRJS classes, and her exams don't clearly follow any specific outline. On her multiple choice she asks the most stupid questions, or things we reveiewed once in class, yet she expects us to know. I.e percentages of a certain crime, an individual who mightve done something significant etc. Take Winterdyk instead. not any better lo
She's nice but a extremely hard marker and doesn't make sense half the time. I don't recommend her AT ALL
Harpreet is not the worst prof I've had nor the best prof. She is quite dry during lectures and class can become boring however will also give longer breaks and shows movies to break things up. Her classes are also full of class discussions which is either good or bad depending on who you are. Exams and papers are both graded fairly.
Harpreet is very approachable and is willing to help you when you ask for it. Her assignment expectations are very clear and as long as you follow them you will do well. Attend class because she does mention valuable information to include in your papers and questions that will be on her exams. Great prof.
Harpreets English is phenomenal. If you have no implicit attitudes towards immigrants or those who are ESL then her english should be the least of your worries. I may be generalizing, but those who are insulting her English are probably just mediocre or below average students with no drive. Try a little, engage yourself, and you will get an A
Lectures are long and boring. Tests are easy as she gives you study guides.
Harpreet is a really great prof. She clearly knows what she's talking about and it shows. Even though she does have an accent, it never made it so I couldn't understand what she was saying. She is very approachable and she breaks up the long lectures with videos and activities (that are actually good so don't worry).
Tells you exactly what to expect. Even tells you what is on the mid term and final. Decently easy marker. TAKE HER
She tells you exactly what is on the midterm and the final. The lectures are based on power points but she makes it so she isn't just directly reading from them. I would definitely take another class that she teaches! I wouldn't say it was the easiest A+ I've received but easy enough. Read the text, attend the lectures & you'll do great!
If you can get past her accent, Harpreet really is an amazing prof. She is very helpful and is always willing to help students understand the concepts she is teaching. She is one of my favourite professors at MRU! I would definitely take her classes again!
Harpreet's positive energy makes you want to attend class and do well. She is always available to help and makes sure that you're aware of her office hours well in advance. She allows her students to submit their paper drafts in advance and gives very good feedback on how to do better in order to give yourself your best change. Definately worth it
She is a pretty good teacher. goes right from textbook and slides so you can skip. basically tells you whats on the exams. marks papers pretty easy. Its boring but she teaches you lots of stuff and if you put in an average amount of work you should get an A
Makes class content interesting and is very helpful. She is understanding and accommodating- always has office hours and will let you hand assignments in a week early to have them looked over. Tells you exactly what to study for exams. Has an accent, but if you have been living in Canada it should not be a problem- great English and grammar overall
Tells you exactly what to study for and marks extremely easy. Only takes half marks off for mistakes where other profs would take full marks. If you put in an ounce of effort & attend class, there is no reason not to get an A. Very accommodating, will look over papers, and passionate about what she is teaching. I will take every class she offers!
Amazing Teacher. really nice and helps you understand things.
This was an amazing class with an amazing prof. She is very knowledgeable about the subject. Even though there is no textbook, there is a lot of reading, but it is all useful and relevant. She is an incredibly passionate, caring, and intelligent prof.
A great person which reflected in her teaching abilities. She was able to bring her own life experiences and relevant examples into the classroom which aided in my understanding. She is accommodating and very caring when you are open and honest with her. She is great to see in office hours! Great class to take, but you got to put in the time too.
Amazing professor, really helpful and teaches really well. If you are in class and pay attention, the exams are a breeze. She knows the subject well and is really good at transferring that knowledge to you. I would recommend her to everyone.
She is an amazing professor that really cares about her work. She helps students to understand the material quite well. She usually isn't tricky on the tests. As long as you are a kind dedicated student, you will have no problem fitting in with her class.
The paper is a bit heavy but she is very clear on expectations. The tests are a bit hard because of the short answers so you really need to know your stuff. Overall, her class was enjoyable and shes really nice.
She's great until she goes very quiet and you can't hear what she's saying. Easy marker for essays, midterm and final exams are worth stuDYING (lol) for. Don't study, you won't pass. I didn't buy the text book but still an easy A. Lectures are quite long and boring.
I LOVE HARPREET, she is such a sweetheart. She is such an underrated prof in the CRJS faculty. You can tell she genuinely wants her students to do well. Take a class with her if you can! If you put in the work you'll easily get an A!
Her lectures aren't worth going to. They are dry and long and will put you to sleep. If there are pieces missing from her PowerPoints you can find what you are missing on Google. Her assignments are broad in terms of what she wants.
Harpreet is quite knowledgeable on the topics that are taught but her expectations are way too high - especially for a first year class. The way she marks is ridiculous. No matter what you write on the exam or papers, it never seems to be good enough for her and nothing reaches her standards. Can't believe I have to take another class with her
Harpreet is really sweet. she cares about her students and wants them to do well. I found the course content to be a little repetitive but whatever, shes a good prof
Harpreet is very sweet, but lectures are useless to go to. She posts all her lectures online and thats all you really need, I bought the textbook but rarely used it. I'm not a great writer, and Harpreet isn't a very hard grader so don't worry about that. I'd easily take her again, she was an awesome prof
She is so sweet and kind! Definitely was easier since it was online
Harpreet is a nice lady but just brutal to listen to. Atleast she was online. her prerecorded lectures were so unbearable to watch, but overall she is an easy marker and the assignments were very straight forward. This class is basically a repeat of what we have been learning since jr high about colonialism etc.
Harpreet is a nice prof. She was sometimes hard to listen to and understand but the majority of the time she was a great prof. Her tests were super fair since most of the material on the tests is from what she says in the live lectures. Overall, pretty good professor.
I like Harpreet, she is very smart and passionate. I am hearing impaired and have a hard time understanding her, and her lectures can be dry and long. Overall she's lovely and cares about her students.
Marks things quite slow. Her midterm and final exam are brutal as if students will remember statistics discussed 3 weeks before the exam. Those type of questions will be useless in the future career. She expects us to remember that and use those statistics when making a point? Avoid her, but unfortunately, I still have her next year.
Her class was very hard to sit through, and she is a very tough grader. I feel like sometimes she is hard to communicate with.
Her lectures are hard to sit through and sometimes communication is difficult. Exams aren't horrible, but she leaves out information from her online notes to make attendance "mandatory". I wouldn't choose her again if there's another option. Very limited items for grading, which makes them weighed more.
Harpreets class is incredibly dreadful and lectures ALWAYS last the full 3 hours. Her marking is quite tough and exams sometimes include information not discussed in class. Exams require a lot of deep knowledge on all topics and may include videos watched in class but not posted online. Unfortunately, there is now way to avoid this prof
Harpreet's multiple-choice tests are brutal, but she's very lenient on writing part of exams and assignments. If you go to her lectures, you don't need to spend hours on studying because most of exam material comes from lectures. Some power points and videos don't get posted on d2l, but she is available outside of class and responds to emails quick
Very passionate professor, but very difficult when it comes to marking. She is a tough grader and I personally find it hard to learn from her lectures. She is not very caring, either. If you don't have to take her, try to avoid her.
I find her to be a very unfair marker. And she does not care about students mental health.
Very unprofessional professor. Harsh marker
Harpreet lacks consideration for students' mental health. I have not had a single prof who does not value mental health besides Harpreet. Avoid her if you value your GPA.
Harpreet has biases towards certain students and if she doesn't like you for some reason, I'm sorry, you're f*cked. Assignments are fairly easy besides group projects, but midterm and final are brutal. She has admitted that she doesn't like when students succeed on her exams and purposefully makes it harder every year/semester. Very unprofessional
Harpreet is an okay professor. The MC questions on the midterm and final are very difficult but the short answers helped boost my grade. She is open to reading over assignments and giving good feedback. Her 3 hour lectures were hard to get through.
Harpreet is the most intelligent staff in the crim department. She is funny, passionate, and an amazing prof. Her tests are based on slides/textbook readings. Don't be intimidated by lazy kids with mean reviews, go to class, put in the work, and genuinely try and you'll do great. I love her and recommend her to students who are willing to try
Harpreet is great. She expects you to care and try, you'll do just fine if you put the work in for good grades. I love her
Lectures are enthusiastic & provide clear application of examples. However, she comes across as condescending at times even though she expects students to raise their hand and participate. Quite hypocritical to teach a diversity class but then act arrogant toward certain students who are paying money to appropriately partake in a lecture discussion
She's extremely passionate and has well organized lesson plans. Any reviews criticizing her are incorrect, you just have to attend class and she outlines what's on the exams and is extremely accomodating. You just need to show up and put in some effort, the very basic minimum for a university course. Love her!
Harpreet is way better in CRJS 2002 than CRJS 1013! 2 reflections, 2 group projects, 1 midterm, & the final. Lectures made sense, were mostly engaging, and she is able to connect information to show us why what we're learning is relevant. You need to attend every lecture to take notes on what she says, especially for final exam hints.
On a list of the top 3 worst professors, Harpreet consistently shows favouritism which can be difficult to prove, I would suggest all members in her class to share marks and grading, to see how she picks on certain individuals despite their quality of work Do not fall for her trap, being nice in class doesn't get you better.
I met with Harpreet one time to discuss a grade I was not satisfied with in her office. I learned some valuable feedback that I incorporated into my next assigments, and although I did not recieve the grade I anticipated with work I had prepared, It was a tiny bit higher than what I would have gotten had I not went and gotten feedback.
she does not play with these lectures. they are long but really information packed so be prepared to take notes. i do recommend paying close attention to the things she says in class and how you can implement it in your short answers. she shows a little favoritism but every prof kind of does so be mindful of that
I love Harpreet. Classes are not mandatory, but they are truly helpful. She is one of my favourite CRJS profs, but her multiple choice selections on exams are HARD. her assignments in the course are easy and give you the ability to do them how you wish.
DONT TAKE HER COURSES RMP HAS BEEN DELETING ALL HER BAD REVIEWS!!!!!!
I had some minor issues with her in CRJS 1013, but she improved with CRJS 2002. Issues aside, I'm not sure where the favouritism claims are coming from but I did not experience this as a POC. I showed up to every class, took detailed notes, engaged with the discussions activities, and I did great. I learned a lot from this course, she's improving.
Marxist decolonization perspective similar to Malcolm X racist movement, same ideology. Not helpful for reconciliation in Canada plus a repeat of social studies class in high school. $700 mandatory scam, revise curriculum or remove it. Did not learn anything about criminology.
Better than CRJS 2002, learned some Canadian history that could have easily been overlooked in grade school. Still too much money. $700 to learn some Canadian facts loosely connected to criminology, there are better classes to take.
I did not enjoy my time with this professor, from the many professors. I along with other students can handle a hard class or a harder professor, but it becomes difficult to understand a professor who fills in too much information for a single class, trying to grind information into each passing minute even when there is nothing left to say.
Honestly degrading but passionate about what she teaches, dont take her if u wanna like life
Taking this class now. I don't prefer it. Tests are in class but on lockdown. hard to you know
You're not going to want to come to class if you take this class with her. Everything she teaches you in class you could save 2 hours by just going over it by yourself. Adds no additional value to her lectures and basically just recites from the notes or slides. Her classes could cure insomnia
Honestly way too much work for a class that isn't a pre requisite for anything. Midterm was not the easiest but she does mark easier on the group projects. Currently hate my life over the presentations.
Ignore the bad reviews, she is a sweetheart! Clearly cares for her students and you can tell she is passionate about what she teaches. Textbook for this class is free, assignments are straightforward, she productively uses class time, and is very organized. Presentations can be scary but she meets you where you're at. I learned a lot from her!
Harpreet is a very kind prof. I personally do not find the class very interesting, however she is an easy marker and cares for her students. Midterm and final have a lot of written questions but if you go to class it will help you on the exams.
This class is not my favourite but it's definitely not the worst. I did absolutely horrid on the midterm but the assignment were quite simple, she marks pretty reasonable. Presentations are definitely scary but they're 10x easier then a paper. she tries her best to make the presentations informal and less scary which is appreciated.
Great prof overall. But beware of midterm and final, will need to study to obtain a good grade. Assignments are easy and worth a lot so you can get easy marks.
This class was really interesting too bad that she doesn't know how to teach and it made everyone not want to go
Yeah no…..
