All notes are on powerpoint, which makes lecture boring. SHe doesn't really explain stuff, she just says ok this is what it is, she works it out and doesn't tell you WHY she does anything. This class sucks, but it could be worse i guess.

Counting the grains of chalk dust on the board was more informative than her. I ended up going to Woodrum's class instead. Avoid this woman if possible.
i really don't like her teaching style. She is about as entertaining, in her classes, as a brussel sprout is to a three year old. She reads powerpoint lectures to students, thinking that somehow we can read her mind as to what she is thinking. 1-2Avoid

I really like her alot! If you are in the class to learn you will do well. Definalty go see her during office hours. She is willing to help if you are willing to learn!
Her lectures are extremely boring and dry.
I completely disagree. She does more than an ample number of sample problems (probably too many) and is extremely helpful and patient if you go to see her (she's always in her office, even outside of OH). The curves are ridiculous (12 points on first exam
I thought she was very unclear. I hated her lectures and teaching methods. I didn't learn anything from her class.
ades is not very good with time. Many times we hadnt even went over information before blackboards were due and rarely had a review day before tests.
I had her in the summer, she explained things well and made it an easy class. She was thorough and clear about what to expect on the exams.
she is good at professing not teaching
She is a good teacher. She makes a lot of jokes and comes across as easy going
ades is horrible at explaining things. i would be better off reading the chapters and teaching myself the material. avoid taking her class if you can!
She's CRAZY!
Her notes are online so that's a plus. Otherwise the lecture itself was boring. Tests are fair but you have to study hard to do well
She is somewhat boring. She is really nice. Very helpful if you go talk to her. I spent alot of time studying outside of class and did well.
harriet is the worst teacher ever!
Ades is an okay person, just a little unenthusiastic of a speaker. I ended up switching over to Dr. Woodrum's class instead...Woodrum is awesome.
she is very unclear in her explanations, i would be better off reading the chapters and teaching myself the material
I hate going to this class just because I don't understand a thing the woman says. I could go to every single class and still manage to get a bad grade on the exam. I mean do I really need to know about ionic and molecular compounds in real life....I think not!!!
Harriet Ades is by far the best teacher I've ever had. She taught me how to take good notes. I can write on my paper while keeping my eyes on the board. "Lets make love and you can bring your dogs." She's a mad chemist if you know what I mean
Ades is an ok teacher. She isnt the most exciting teacher in the world, but she has some neat experiments. She also puts these random pictures on her slides... it is strange.
she is better off teacher higher-level chemistry. she had a hard time teaching one of the lowest chem classes
Though she means well, Professor Ades is a difficult teacher. Her explanations are unclear, and she tends to move a little fast. The only way I was able to do well in the class was to study the book; her notes did not help, nor did her explanations.
Very methodical and helpful.
She "teaches" chemistry in that class like she's having a conversation with someone that knows all there is to know about chemistry. Obviously, very bright...just NOT a teacher!
Horrible teacher

If you aren't a science or math person, she isn't the best teacher to have. I love science, so I don't think that she's a bad teacher. She isn't the most exciting person, but if you have her, I would definately attend class. She does several examples. I think it's helpful.
Read before you come to class or you will be a little lost. It's not too hard, but if you don't read you don't understand the terminology she uses. She is VERY helpful. If you visit her during office hours she will tutor you. Nice little old lady.
she is hard to understand and makes weird comparisons that are confusing. Nice lady, just shouldn't be teaching....Everytime Woodrum substitued everyone knew what was going on EXACTLY
The people who don't like her or don't do well, are the ones who probably don't try. If you GO TO CLASS and actually LISTEN to what she has to say, then you'll be fine. Her notes are really thorough and she goes over the necessary stuff a million times.

She seems to be a nice person, but her tests are very unclear, as are her lectures. She tends to go on and on...and on about the same thing until your totally confused...even if you knew the material before!
Horrible
Hated this class, had to re-take it because she was an awful teacher.
Mrs. Ades is a terrible teacher...for a simple reason that she makes chemistry your worst class of the week because she talks in monotone and her final was ridicoulous! by any means if you can get out of this class get out while you can!
She was unhelpful when I went into her office hours. She explained everything to me but made me feel stupid for not knowing the material. The exams aren't bad, they come right out of the material but the final is a killer.
I thought the class was difficult, but I ended up with an A and I only studied the day of each exam. Harriet isn't a bad teacher, she just teaches like normal college teachers do. I suggest that you read from the book alot more than the notes. The book gives examples which make the material easier to understand and retain.
Ades is the average college prof who does her job but also excepts her students to put forth their own effort. The class is not difficult and if you pay attention, attend class and try to appreciate the subject matter, you will do well.
She gets her test questions from the book, but expect to fall asleep in her class. The information went in one ear and out the other.
easy as long as you go to class and can stay awake. goes over material over and over and over and over....you get the point. not a bad teacher though just boring.
I went to class proabaly 5 times throughout the entire semester and got an A in the class.I would come out of her classes more confused than when I went in. I can safely say that Ades had nothing to do with the grade I got. Basically if you cant teach yourself chemistry then youre proabaly out of luck.
I've had better profs for other chem courses.

mumbled the entire time
taught on things not on the test, and never spoke about the stuff that was on the test
Had her for CHE104 and this semester for CH105. She is so good I am taking her CH107 over the summer. If you don't come to class of course you will do poorly. She goes over practice exams questions every day and pretty much hands you what will be on the test. If you see her for extra help she will always take the time to help you. Very nice lady.
Give her a break, she doesn't make up the chem test! If you go to class, she gives you so many dang examples, you ought to be able to figure it all out! I haven't even touched my chem book (well, i didn't even buy one) and I'm doin just fine.
I attended every class and was not able to garner one thing from her lectures. Yeah, she gives a lot of examples but she blazes through them way too fast. It would be much more helpful if she gave 1 or 2 slowly instead of a ton in 50 mins. Avoid this teacher.
She was not at all engaging in class, so I had a hard time retaining any of the lecture material. Lecture is all with PowerPoint, and the slides are available for download as PDFs, which also contributed to the lack of retention. She seemed to not care at all about the class, and like she didn't really want to be teaching. I will be avoiding her.
I took her in the summer, which i HIGHLY recommend taking chemsitry in the summer. in the summer shes the only one teaching (or whoever) and therefore they make the exams according to what they teach.DEFINITLY go for help or to talk or whatever with her if she knows who u are, then she's more willing to bump up ur grade if ur near the higher grade
Ok, she's probably not the best chem teacher at the college, but anyone who had holmes spring of 06 knows that when ades subbed for him, we actually learned something instead of being completely lost the whole time. basically, you could do a lot worse than ades.
I do not like Dr. Hades. She is a mean teacher that has an attitude problem that needs serious adjusting. And she DOES NOT teach well at all. Thanks to her.. I've probably flunked my first CHEM test.
shes horrible
Horrible- she is mean; laughed at us when we asked questions, and is BORING. She does not make any sense. don't take this class...
i don't understand why people are complaining. she is a good teacher, she give numerous examples when it comes to conversions, etc. if you pay attention and do problems from your book about an hour every night -- you'll do great. don't study this in bulks, study a bit every night
Do not take this class. It is like taking a foreign language. I cant even begin to explain how much i hate this class because of her. The tests cover a wide range of topics that do not have anything to do with each other. if you speak ades, go right ahead and take this class. I would not recommend this professor if my left nut depended on it.
Ades is a great teacher I thought. She takes the time to make sure you have enough examples of every type of problem you will encounter on the exams.
The only complaints I have about her is that she expects too much from a first year student group in academic aptitude. She goes over the information much too fast and in much greater detail than needed, then will omit that particular portion from testing. Priorities are out of place, IMO. Improvement would be with less material. We aren't 105.
Ades is a very good teacher. You can tell she does it because she likes it, not because she has to. Take advantage of her willingness to help you if you find her lectures difficult to follow- this is NOT easy material to begin with. If you find you don't like her, then go ahead, play roullete by taking another prof- i DARE you.
HARDEST CLASS I TOOK IN MY ENTIRE LIFE, i worked so hard in this class, and i got a D. LECTURES ARE BORING. Goes over a lot of examples, too quickly, she expects you to know everything fowards and backwards. good luck getting help in this subject, because she does NOT CARE about any of her students. and TRICKY TESTS! GOOD LUCK, avoid at all cost
Ades can be difficult to understand during the lectures but if you want to do good you almost have to read the text book... it helps so much! so if you are confused READ! most people who dont do good dont put in the effort and deserve the grade that they get. Also go see her
The key to Ades is showing your intrest in the class! If you need help, go to office hours! She really like to get to know her students!
You're going to have to work a lot on your own. She's more boring than a pile of bricks and doesn't do well to connect the material to real life. Study old exams and examples in the book, and you'll be fine.
Super!
Goes over equations very well. If she is involved in the test-making the test is much easier.
She is very unclear, always speeding through everything liek we all hold degrees in chemistry. I stopped going except on review days and attend woodrum's instead. If you really know chemistry and don't need anyone to teach it to you, she would be the perfect professor. She just doesn't seem to get the part about this being "General Chemistry."
I do agree that Dr. Ades does in deed go through the material REALLY fast and it's almost impossible to follow along with the sample problems that she does on the overhead but if you write it down it's very GOOD practice. She is ALWAYS available in her office to help you--use this to your advantage. She's a very sweet woman. :)
Ms. Ades - listless, old and tiresome - You will be frustrated in this class and the tests can kill you..HOWEVER! There is hope! One of the best ways to do well on the tests: Write down the examples given in class - take them IMMEDIATELY TO "The Study" and have them explain to you how to do them - important to start memorizing way b4 test - GL!
Agreed with most of the negative comments. I do not understand what class the person who said she enjoys teaching was going to, but it was NOT one of Ades'. This was the hardest class I've ever taken to attend. Avoid this teacher. It's not worth hating life to take this class. Needless to say I got a D.
Took over the summer....while working full time and partying a lot. Pulled off a C with not much studying. Fast yet boring lectures. But then again I like chemistry...
Ok, so I had regular chemistry and AP chemistry in high school, meaning I've had some experience with chemistry, and I honestly can say that she was the worst teacher I've ever had! She doesn't teach and isn't worth a dime! AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She is a great teacher. I admit that she is a bit boring and speaks with a monotone but she knows her stuff. As long as you go to class and take notes, you will be great
General Consensus seems to be: Take Ms. Ades for 105 or 107 but avoid for 104 - What people dont realize is that Ms. Ades gives you EVERYTHING thats going to be on the test in her notes/lectures and she gives you 3 practice tests online for each test - Do not depend on her explanations - you will fail - Goto the study and they will explain it = A
Dr. Ades was very willing to help me understand. She was always available in her office. Sometimes she made me feel a little bad about the question I asked but she always answered the question anyway. She's monotone, but explains well. If you can't have Woodrum, Ades is a good second choice, especially for 107.
Good at giving examples, but her voice is extremely boring and dry. She can crack jokes sometimes, and gives bonus for visiting office hours. Not too bad, just lame.
VERY boring in class. Her test are much harder than when Woodrum makes them. She does give good examples compared to most of the other chem teachers.
Dr. Ades is very incomprehensible. Although she provides a lot of exercises in class, she is hard to follow and obscure. When in her office, not so bad. More monotone than a Catholic church. Avoid at ALL cost.
worst teacher i've ever had at uk or in my life. doesn't care about students. hopefully she is not teaching anymore.
Super nerdy, entertaining, makes it very clear what we will be tested over. Not quite Woodrum but Dr. Ades is a great teacher and she cares about her students. The in class examples exactly follow the homework and tests. Just go to class, be vigilant, take the practice tests and you've got an A!
Very hard to understand, easy to get confused, don't take from this professor, its a waste of time. After this class, my interest in chemistry was gone.
A little boring, but a good class overall. I studied a LOT
She is so cute! Dr. Ades is a very good teacher, and cares about her students.
She was rude and never helpful.
absolutely terrible teacher. avoid at all costs!! gives good hints on day before test to make up for terrible teaching. better start getting use to bringing caffiene to her class b/c you will be asleep very fast
The worst teacher ever. Missed every Jewish holiday and things couldnt be better. If it it her or taking next semister - just take it next semister
the previous comments aren't fair to dr. ades. IT IS A HARD CLASS. you have to work. this goes for every professor. Ades actually goes through examples unlike selegue. many attended her class instead of his due to the number of examples. She's available for what seemed like 24/7. again if you don't do well don't blame her. juststudydude.
I had her for CHE104,105 and 107. She begs people to come to her office, then makes you feel dumb for coming. Unless you can teach yourself everything, DO NOT get her. If for some reason you have to, sit in the front row so you can maybe get help from her. VERY HARD i did bad in all three classes.
She has a monotone voice, but gives good examples and work a lot of problems in class. If you go to her office hours she if very helpful
I had her for CHE 105. It wasn't bad at all. She does so many examples and if you just know how to do them all you are fine for the test. Class may be boring or see to drag on but it's important to pay attention, come to class, do your homework, and you'll do fine.
Although class was sometime boring, she was a very helpful professor. She worked so many examples, which was great to review when studying for the exams. She always gave curves and exams. She also held a review before every exam, which was helpful. Make sure you do the homework and it helped me to pre-read the material.
she's nice, kind of montone, but nice
I guess she doesnt care about teaching anymore, the notes were terrible and the class was impossible
Not only did she teach horribly and i only took this as a refresher (and mandatory for MD school) but when i couldnt complete the test on time she told me maybe it wasnt for me! Why did i get an A in both 105 and 107 without her and a 42 MCAT! Bad Teaching!
Take Woodrum!!! Ades is monotone, she literally puts you to sleep, her handwriting is hard to read, she doesn't explain much, and she makes slides that make annoying noises to wake you up when you do fall asleep.
Go to her office hours! She really helps. She does tons of examples. Do her tests from the past because they are very similar.
Horrible, just horrible. The material wasn't difficult, and the exams were straight forward, but she didn't add anything to my understanding. If you have her, just read the text book, she's a waste of time.
Overrall, a great class! A pleasure to attend! Not only does she explain everything completely and with complete clarity she gives you tons of problems to work out... it helps a lot trust me! Just pay attention in class and you will do great!
Hard Class. Very boring teacher never gets excited or changes tones.
She is a very monotone teacher but she worked out plenty of examples for the class and did her best to explain problems. You can ask questions and she would answer them which is always nice in big lectures. A lot of the problems worked out in class were exactly the ones on HW so go to class and pay attention because it helps with HW!
She teaches as if it is a review...which it is... for her anyway. If you visit her during office hours everything is made very clear and she is very polite.
Really dry but tells you what you need to know. Helpful at office hours
No one can teach you chemistry. Until you take the time to study it out for yourself the will be very difficult to follow. Read before lecture, practice problems from old exams, and study the book. You can't expect the lecture to make up for poor study habits
Ades was a horrible teacher who was worthless during office hours. She sat there and shopped amazon while I was attempting to ask questions. I had her for 105 and 107 and she was a NIGHTMARE. She writes really hard tests in the off semesters when woodrum isnt teaching. Take woodrum instead, Ades was hell.
I wouldn't recommend her. If you have her, it won't be the end of the world. She's just kinda boring. She always just seems to have a "I really don't want to be here" attitude while she's teaching. On the bright side, She does TONS of examples and she's nice and willing to help.
I did terribly in her class. This is my own fault. She is thorough and forgiving as far as tests go. My only fault is that her lecture is boring and very personal. She has her own way of working problems that might not be the easiest/best way of doing things. Office hours are useless as she makes you feel terrible for bothering her.
Horrendous instructor. Avoid her at all cost, stay away from this dud! Her lectures only lead to confusion. She needs to desperately retire
While i will not go into the name calling and low blows that others have i will say that this was a very difficult class. Professor Ades is a nice lady but not, in my opinion, a good teacher. id say not to get her as a professor but sometimes its unavoidable. in that case, read the book, go to class for clicker questions, and use The Study alot.
Awful... JUUUUST.... Awful. Worst teacher of my college career (and I have over 100 hours)
i really wouldn't recommend an 8 o'clock class with this woman. most boring class i've ever taken. i personally love chemistry and she made me want to hate it.
I took Dr. Ades for 105 & 107. She's a very sweet person and will help you if you attend office hours but be sure to have a tutor and go to the Study for homework. Her class is very boring, but TRY to pay attention- that's key- it will be on the exam. Also, old exams posted on blackboard are basically useless. Don't depend on those to study.
The lectures are the most boring hour imaginable. Sometimes she does stuff the most confusing way possible, so it helps to read the book because it is usually explained better. She also talks very very very slow which led to us being about 2 chapters behind by the end of the semester
We are only ONE chapter behind this semester, and the class is very fast paced. Expect to keep up outside of class to be able to quickly take clicker quizzes and understand the 100's of pages of notes. Class is very boring because you just look at the powerpoints and projector all period. Her tests are hard but she gives a lot of partial credit.
I took the 8 AM section, which was a bad idea in general. However, the class was one of my easier classes and she works TONS of examples. Office hours are helpful and she is willing to give bonus points. She added an extra percent on our grade for coming the day before Thanksgiving break! I ended up getting an A in the class, but it wasn't easy
She seemed to know what she was talking about, just didn't explain it well to students, at least not very clear to me. Most of my understanding of the material came from reading the book
The MOST boring class i have ever been in. Don't expect to learn a lot in lecture.
Very boring. Fast paced class. Don't take it at 8am it will feel never ending. Expect to do work outside of class she does a lot of examples but the homework is what really helped me understand everything.
Boring class, especially at 8 am. Attendance is mandatory. She's really monotone and asks a lot of rhetorical questions. Make sure you go to class the week before/of the tests, she gives out a study guide. The homework is really tedious and doesn't help much.
She's one of the best general chemistry professors. She is monotone, but she tries to involve the class by throwing in a joke or two. She gives so many examples within the lecture, and her exam questions are straight from those examples. I'd highly recommend her class.
She was a little boring, though that might have something to do with taking the class at 8:00. In terms of teaching content she provided lots of examples which helped with the exams. She is usually available for office hours, but sometimes make you feel awkward for asking questions.
She works lots of problems. She is more likely to take the notes slower. She tries adding a bit of humor. Interesting real world examples
Mrs Ades is a great professor if you want to learn chemistry from the thirteen hundreds. If not, avoid her. Take Woodrum!
Does about 100 problems per class. She tries to pause if she thinks the class is behind but works really fast. Monotones voice that almost puts me to sleep every class. She explains things very well and will answer all questions but kind of makes you feel stupid for asking them.
Monotoned but clear in what she would include on exams
It is a hard class, but she does lots of examples to help. She makes lots of funny little jokes.
CHE 107 is a difficult class and Dr. Ades is helpful in the sense that she goes over tons of example problems that are similar to the exam problems in lecture. On the other hand, she is extremely rude during office hours. She makes you feel stupid for asking questions and you end up feeling like you shouldn't have gone at all.
She is very good at working out plenty of example problems, but the mono toned voiced is extremely boring. I got an A in it, but I do not credit much of that to her.
So the only advice I have about passing chem 107 is take it in the off season (fall) and take Dr. Ades bc she gives LOTS of curve points on the tests & is the only teacher who teaches it in the fall so she makes up the test questions alone. Shes pretty fair and helpful. SO hard to pay attention to her in class though.Get cramster for the homework.
She not very exciting but she does know her material. She gives tons of examples. The only good thing is that she makes up the exams herself so she stresses on things that will be on them.
She is the nicest lady! This class is NOT that hard if you take the time to learn, study, and get help on the material if you need it. Go to her office hours because she will likely want you to get the A as much as you want it.
Didn't like Dr. Ades. She had random tangents during lectures about topics not related to the class. When I went in to get help, she told me it was no use to come ask a teacher about a topic if you don't know anything about the topic. Very poor lecturer and quite a boring monotone voice.
Dr. Ades cannot be discredited for not knowing her stuff because she does. My big problem with her is the lack of interest in everyone in the class who isn't within a 2 foot radius of her. Unless you're one of the 4 people sitting front and center, you'd be better off teaching yourself from the text book. Woodrum is more exciting.
Great teacher! She's funny, knows what she's talking about, and works through TONS of examples in class. She teaches everything that will be on the exam; as long as you put in the necessary amount of work, you should do fine!
She is a great teacher! She provides lots of examples during class and prepares students for exams,
One of the worst teachers at UK.
Dr. Ades is very close to retiring and you can tell she has lost the desire to teach. She hurries through notes and gets frustrated easily. There are better Chem professors at UK that will help you understand the material better (and even some of the TAs). Notes are pretty much what's on the test.
Dr Ades was not very helpful for a challenging course. She got through the notes, but if you didn't understand them in lecture she was not helpful beyond that. Often she would go off on unrelated subjects. While she does know her material, it is not transferred well to students.
She rushes through the notes and goes off on tangents that does not relate to class whatsoever. If you are taking chemistry as a major I wouldn't recommend taking her.
Moves a little quickly but what you miss you can find on blackboard.
Tough class. Basically physics lab with some chemistry but you write the entire reports by yourself. However, Dr. Ades is awesome if you take the time to go talk to her. She wants her students to do well and will answer any questions you have.
She is not clear with her teaching. Missed a lot of classes but got subs who did not know basic chemistry. A very frustrating class.
She goes very fast in class. She is not very good at explaining anything. She assumes the class will understand it and then will tell you "you will have to do these problems in 2 minutes on a test."
She does not teach. She reviews. She goes through the material very quickly assuming everyone already learned this chemistry in high school. Her handwriting is VERY sloppy which makes examples hard to follow. I'd rather take chemistry at 8am than take Dr. Ades at a normal time.
She goes very quickly through the notes and assumes that most kids have already learned the material, so she does not take time to explain any of the concepts. Her handwriting is illegible, so it is hard to get anything written down. She does not prepare you for the exams, instead she says "know how to do this for the test"
Hardest class I've ever taken. She goes EXTREMELY fast through the material.
Professor certainly knew the material, but was awful at explaining it to the class.
Lectures are very boring, but she saw me in class every day and I went to her office a few times and she bumped up my grade!! Sweet lady, just not always very clear.
Lectures are really bad and she isn't very clear on anything.
Dr. Ades is a great professor! Most of the examples she gives in class pop up in exams - just with different numbering. She loves when you come to her office hours for help - and you do get bonus points for doing so. Chemistry is hard, but Dr. Ades will always help! If you want an A you have to work for it, and she can help!!
Dr. Ades is a super nice lady but her lectures were pure torture. She does work out lots of examples but does so in a very rushed manner leaving students confused and behind. She also needs to work on her powerpoint skills and explain concepts in more detail. No matter what prof you get for this class, it's extremely tough.
Dr. Ades is readily available outside of class should you ever need to ask a question, which you certainly will. That being said, her lectures are absolute trash: mind-numbing, unstructured, and packed with unnecessary information. Change your schedule to avoid her; I went to both Ades and another professor's lecture to actually learn the material.
This is probably the worst professor ever. She doesn't teach well and mumbles for the entire lecture. She also skips over multiple slides at a time and often forgets where she was going with her thought.... It is an easy class and you will pass no matter who you have though (you might have to put in extra work with this professor to understand).
Worst professor I've ever had. Avoid at all costs!! It's a fairly easy A, but I learned absolutely nothing from her. Does not explain any concepts. She does examples before class and shows them to us without allowing us any time to think or configure on our own.
Honestly, out of all of the options from this semester for CHE 105, she is the best. She does go quickly through all the examples but will give a lot of problems to help you understand the material. Pay attention and write all the examples with her, she doesn't put the work for them in the slides. She doesn't explain everything very well, sadly.
She is so funny and I love her personality to pieces, but her teaching style isnt for me. It was hard to follow along. Also, 105 is accelerated and goes fast so it is not entirely her fault. Attendance is key to keep a good polling grade, quite a few hw assignments, and tests are pretty difficult. Good luck!
Dr. Ades is a very nice lady, but a terrible professor. Her lectures were unorganized and way too fast. She did lots of examples but didn't explain them. Tests wouldn't have been that hard, but there was no way to know what was on them and they frequently didn't reflect the lecture/homework
Horrible professor. Mumbles and is very hard to understand. Expects you to just understand the material without explaining it.
Dr. Ades goes very fast during lecture, but to be fair she has to cover a lot of material in a short amount of time. Tests weren't horrible, just read through the learning objectives and make a study guide based off that. If you're confused about calculations, the textbook explains better. Also review all the sapling hw problems for each test.
Mumbles the whole class and doesn't explain examples. Also, she doesn't go in depth with any of the material and expects you to understand without explaining. The homework and in-class questions are relatively easy, but the test questions are often much more difficult than the examples she gives.
I once counted that we went through over 80 slides in one lecture. You're basically going to be told that you need to know all this content for the test, but not actually taught much. She is accessible outside of class, but there is a good chance you will not leave her office any more confident in the material. Get ready to teach yourself.
So she really isn't that bad, especially when you consider the amount of content the departments require these professors to teach even with the modified load from the fall 2017 semester. She was really understanding and gives plenty of problems in class, but lets face it the lectures are dry and often rushed. Prep to study outside of class a lot!
From talking to other students, I came to understand that she was by far the best CHE 105 professor. While she occasionally went a little too fast, she only did so when absolutely necessary to cover all the material. If students had questions, she answered thoroughly and so that everyone could understand.
Prof Ades basically reads through black and white slides and then does a ton of practice problems over the material she just read. She does the problems before class, so she goes too fast when you're still trying to comprehend the material. Got an A, but she had little to do with it. You will be fine if you are familiar with basic chemistry.
I loved Dr. Ades. She tries to make lectures fun, which is hard with chemistry. She brings up the topics that will be on the test during her review lectures, so be sure to go to those. She has tons of office hours, which I never went to, but she seemed willing to help.
This class is quite hard. Don't expect to be able to skip class and pass because it is very easy to fall behind. Dr. Ades' powerpoints are very helpful, but the book is even more so.
Dr. Harriet Ades is such a sweet lady. At first, I was really worried about this class as exams are worth a lot of your total grade. I highly recommend visiting her office hours if you have a question or something you do not understand. Be polite and respectful and she will do her best to help you succeed. Power points are easy to understand.
Chemistry is a hard class and she doesnt make it easier. She goes too fast and assumes you know too much. Since the tests and assignments in CHE 105 are the same for all lectures, the professor you get is crucial to your understanding. Would not recommend Ades.
Moves extremely fast during lecture, be prepared to read the notes at least 3 times!
Dr. Ades was my favorite chemistry professor! If you dont understand something GO TO HER OFFICE! She will help you succeed in chemistry. This is a class you need to study for - people who slack fail. People who dont ask for help fail. As long as you practice daily, keep up with lectures, and ask her for help when you need it, you WILL do well.
Dr. Ades is a really nice lady and cares about her students. Reading the book along with following along with lecture notes helps a lot. Do your homework and pay attention in class and you'll be fine.
She was kind and made herself available for help as much as possible. While she does go through her lectures quickly, they are posted online so you can look up anything you miss. Her examples in class were helpful.
Moves too fast. Not all of the blame is hers, however. The chemistry department micromanages every course and dictates the homework, not the professor. In finals week alone I had two homework assignments that took 2 hours a pieces separately. If you think you're going to go to class and absorb even 50% of what is being taught you are mistaken.
Terrible lectures in which many concepts were poorly explained and not elaborated on. Basically had to teach all the material to yourself in order to understand it. Lectures were very pointless and an overall waste of time because it was so hard to learn and understand the concepts.
Her lectures can be a little boring and she goes over the content quickly, but she provides you with all of the information you need to succeed. As long as you put in the work outside of class to look over your notes or rewatch lectures, you will do fine.
Does not prepare herself for lectures, let alone prepare her students. Material wasn't too difficult, so it was easy to get through without any help.
Professor Ades is a kind elderly woman, but if you have an option to select a different professor, take it. She quickly runs through difficult class material and is vague when explaining things. I found it helpful to meet with her one-on-one, but I realized that too late in the semester.
