Good teacher, easy to understand/learn. Take him for economics.
If you take economics and do not take Ellis, you're making a mistake.Hes extremely happy and his good vibes rub off on his classroom. This man makes economics fun and simple to learn. He knows his material!Provides students with a handwritten outline(on the board)no need to buy the book.little homework
Very happy professor. I HATED my microecon class because I had the most boring prof in the world. I'm actually enjoying macro because of this prof.
Great teacher! Very easy to understand. He is always smiling and makes it a point to learn your name (unlike some who don't really care). I am taking macro with him too just because I enjoyed micro so much with him.
Ellis is flawless. You could not ask for a better Professor/Lecturer/Advisor/Person. He's basically the perfect human being in every fathomable way.
Very intelligent and very sweet.
Take him, he will remember you forever and help you with anything you need.
This man is amazing. No need to buy the book. Perfect notes. Perfect attitude. Great smile. GREAT PROFESSOR!
He a very fare instructor that is helpful all along the way. He slow down the classes alittle bit so some of the dumb students will be able to pass. Easy A is you do the work and show up to class.
Such a nice guy, really cares about the students

awesome teacher
he makes it so easy. you would have to try to not pass and as long as you put alittle effort you will leave with an A
Overall easy class...attendance required only on days where tests and quizes are given...no unexpected quizes...he tells you ahead of time...overall great guy...really cares about the students...I wish other professors were as sweet and caring as him.
I took his class years ago and I still remember him and he still remembers me. He will help any student with any question. Goes the extra mile to make sure you understand; genuine enthusiasm that can brighten your day. Has a heart for his students as well as for economics. You will actually enjoy this class; even if not, you'll love the professor.
He is such a great teacher. He makes you really want to come to class. I had him for both Macro and Micro at the same time and loved every minute of class. He teaches you exactly what will be on the test. He gives great notes that are easy understand. He is so nice and caring, I loved having him and you will too.
One of the best teachers I have ever had! He honestly cares about his students and wants to make sure that we pass his class. The tests are hard but that is because its a departmental test, not his own. Be sure to show up to class the day tests are handed back. He gives free quiz grades. Out of 5 pop quizzes... 3 were for showing up to class.
BEST teacher i've ever had in college. His lectures are clear and understandable, and he keeps you interested in the subject. I pulled a B in his class even though i didn't do the writing assignment. The tests are department test, so they're a little difficult, but as long as you study his notes you'll do well, watch out about little mistakes.
You guys are totally right! He's teaching at MVC and he's out of this world! I just love him. He's easy going, very helpful, and real sweet. Come to class, be willing to learn, and you will earn the grade that you had expected to receive. God Bless his soul. He's awesome.
I failed the class But ONLY because I NEVER ATTENDED OR DID HOMEWORK. I am retaking it in hopes I get mr.ellis again. He is so energetic and helpful, very descriptive and helpful when lecturing with notes. will literally slow down and repeat important information for the class as a hint to write it down. awesome teacher, hope i get him again.
The only reason why I am an Economics major is because of Mr. Ellis! What a great teacher. I was undecided until I took both of his classes, he made economics look so easy!! now that I'm taking upper classes it is hard but anyways I enjoy it. I hope he teaches upper econ classes before I graduate! Great personality, great teacher! Take him
Dr. Ellis was a great professor, he was very good at breaking things down and making economics simple for everyone to understand, all you got to do is show up to class, do the homeworks and you will do fine on the tests.
If you have to take economics, Professor Ellis is the best person to take to learn, experience, and enjoy! Excellent teacher!
This is the best professor I have had in college. He explains everything in detail. He is always willing to help a student who doesn't understand something. Very upbeat and positive. I wish I had this instructor for every class. Do the homework and ask questions and you will make an "A" like I did!
He is the best teacher at unt if you get anything less than an A you gotta be dumb or something....he is super easy he OVER explains things so that you can understand
He's very clear and thorough giving multiple descriptions of everything, will answer any question, and gives most of the information on the test in class. I recommend him. Plus, he's quite friendly.
Macro was a breeze with this man. He is amazing for a teacher of clarity, friendly, helpful, and answers any questions. He returns your tests, gives you the correct answers to them and lets you use them as a review for the final. I have say he's the best teacher I've had at UNT for my first 4 semesters.
Excellent Professor. I took Macro at TCC and made a C. That class was not very well taught. Took Micro with Ellis at UNT, and he made a world of difference. Clear lectures, easy homework that it applicable to the tests. I can say I actually learned a good bit from this class. I HIGHLY recommend Elliss for ECON.
Harry Ellis is a great teacher... the exams are departmental and the material isn't that interesting, but he seems to love his job and is really knowledgeable about the subject.
The hw comes straight out of the workbook, but I wouldn't buy the actual text book. He is a very good teacher. I whish I would have had him for MICRO too. He is a little to excited about the subject, but entertaining.
Sorry I had this class in the summer and it was extremely boring. Don't get me wrong he is a very nice guy I just didn't enjoy his lecture.
He was very helpful and knows Economics very well. No textbook needed only workbook. No test makeups. Exams were from the econ dept. No attendance required but random quizes given. Tests are very tricky but that's not his fault. I would say a very efficient easy teacher. Highly recommended!
He is awesome. If you pay attention and class and do the homework you should do fine. His lectures can be very boring ( I thingk this is b/c he does not give examples on how economic concepts are applied to the real world). Again, wonderful teacher.
Mr. Ellis has been probably teh best teacher that i ve had so far. He is really good, funny, and very smart
Mr. Ellis was an awesome teacher! He explained things very well, and repeated himself on important topics so you would have time to write them down. He really has a passion for Economics and it shows! Way to go, Mr. Ellis!
I had Mr. Ellis for macro and he made it very interesting, he is really sweet and he actually loves to teach. I RECOMMEND him. he is awesome, funny, and very smart, he is without a doubt the best teacher i had at UNT
Mr. Ellis has probably been my most favorite teacher of my college career. His lectures were interesting, he was easy to understand, and always has a smile on his face. I would recommend him to everyone!
Mr. Ellis was a great teacher! He was always happy and smiling! Really loves economics! I had Ms. Schaffer before him and he is 1000% better than her! Take Ellis!!
All professors should be just like Ellis! He's such a sweetheart and he's very thorough and precise, which is why this class is easy because he knows how to teach!
Very energetic and always smiling! He gives very good in depth lectures with great notes!
very clear in speaking and is able to interpret difficult-to-understand concepts for students
I wish every teacher taught like he does!! Take him!!
Such a great teacher! He loves economics and is very good at teaching it. The workbook is very helpful as well. I loved the class so much I'm thinking about making economics my minor. Definitely make use of the economics lab though.
Love him as a teacher, I understood everything so easy. He is one of my all time favorite teachers. As long as you go to class you should get an A. Don't procrastinate the paper due at the end of the semester, its hard to find articles that fit so keep up to date on the news throughout the semester.
Take him!!! He knows his stuff and loves to teach. Go to every class and you will guarantee to pass. I made a 60 on the first test and then he motivated me and i was able to pull off a B. Wish he was my professor in every class
I love him! He's always happy and is super awesome at explaining things :) Take his class!
He is so awesome!! DEF. reccommend him! He actually made things sooo interesting and i actually WANTED to go to class bc he was that amazing of a teacher. He explains everything and he's always so happy and def. cares about his students! I wish we had more teachers like him! I would have a 4.0 if he taught all my classes. (keep in mind i have a 2.0
He freaking rocks! Only half way through the semester and I never have to do homework again because he only takes 15 of the top 30 hw grades. You have to have the workbook. You will not survive this class without it. He makes this boring subject very easy to understand.
He is the best professor I have ever had. I switched my major to Economics because he is so inspiring. I wish every professor was as nice and easy to listen to. Take Harry Ellis if possible!!
Professor Ellis is one of the BEST instructors at UNT. You will like economics just by the way that he teaches. You will learn in this class and you will pass with an A if you do your work
He is one of the ones that influenced me to change my major to economics, great teachers one of my favorites.
Had him last semester. I'm taking Macro now and I'm missing him already. He is an excellent teacher, even to a class of well over a hundred he will absolutely work with you if you need it. Best professor I've ever had. And I mean that.
i didnt like his class but apparently i'm the only one, soo maybe i just don't like ECONOMICS.
Mr.Ellis is one of the top instructors I've had at UNT! He really teaches with passion, and that will affect you by being interested in economics. He is always clear on what he wants and what will be on the exams! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Master of explanation. He is nice... but not that nice. You are lucky if you ever have him as your professor.
Great Professor! He is passionate about what he teaches, and that makes it more interesting. Has a quirky sense of humor, but it's refreshing. He's clear on test requirements. Attendance isn't necessarily required, except for quizzes. He'll occasionally do them unannounced, so I'd recommend going.
Best professor I have had so far. I actually enjoy this class (as much as one could enjoy economics of course). He is always so positive, nice, and helpful. I am sad that he isn't teaching a macro class next semester or I would easily enroll in it. Take this professor, do your work, and you'll most likely get an A.
I can honestly say that I believe that Professor Ellis is the BEST on campus! He genuinely wants all of his students to succeed- With A's! All the work is out of the workbook, and he purposefully gives extra work just to drop an occasional low grade. It is easy to keep focused in his class as he tries to relate to his students as best as possible!
He was my favorite professor! He wants his students to succeed, and always comes to class with a smile on his face!
The professor is extremely nice and helpful! The homework was very easy!! If you have a chance to take him then TAKE him! The material isn't easy but if you take the time to do the work and study then you will get an A in the class! :)
Awesome professor. He his EXTREMELY organized, so you know exactly what to expect and his notes are easy to follow. He has a very dry sense of humor that I liked, too. If you take the practice exams in the book and online, should be an A for you.
He is a really good teacher. Always willing to go over the material you do not understand. One of those teachers that seem to enjoy what he does so it makes the class more enjoyable. Homework is really easy and you get practice tests before the exams.
Super easy. He drops low hw and quiz grades and the tests are just like the homework/practice exams
Harry Ellis is by far the best instructor i have ever had, and i mean that in all subjects. He comes everyday to class with a smile on his face and is the exact definition of loving what you do. His class isn't easy, but if you take notes, attend class, keep up with the work and seek help when needed it's an A. Great Prof, HW just like the exam.
great professor! nice, helpful, and clear. drops hw and quiz grades, and not much hw throughout the semester. just don't leave during class because he will call you out! but if you give him respect, he will give you respect. easy to like and always smiling! take good notes and study for exam and you'll do great!
Ellis is by far the best professor that I have ever had. He comes to class everyday with a smile and a positive attitude. He explains the material clearly and answers any questions that you have. The tests are not easy, but if you study the notes and workbook exercises, you will easily pass. Also, go to econ tutoring! It helps tremendously!!!
Harry Ellis is an amazing professor. His class was easy and simple to follow. Of course, we all know Econ is not fun but he threw in some jokes every now and again. He also answered any questions you asked and gave you every opportunity to go and get help for an easy A. I would recommend that you take Micro and Macro Economics with him if possible!
He is a very very nice teacher, but if you do something he doesn't like he will call you out in class lol. but overall a pretty easy class if you understand your hw and what he is saying, which isn't hard bc he explains really well. Ask a lot of questions, he will answer all of them.
Mr. Ellis is the best teacher for principles! He is good both for macro and micro, but I think he likes micro more. He explains everything clearly, and is super available and helpful. You still have to put your work into it, but he is a very generous grader. Drops a lot of hw and quiz grades!
Mr. Ellis is truly an amazing professor. He explained everything so well. His lectures & notes are great.I had him for both macroµ. tests are a tad tricky, but if you study then you will do just fine! the best teacher i've ever had! going to miss having him. i love economics because of him! :)
Took Mr. Ellis at NCTC, but it was the exact same class he teaches at UNT. Best teacher for Econ hands down! You do have to study a little for the tests, but you are rewarded nicely with a good grade.
Very easy class. His quizzes are really easy. He either gives you a few easy multiple choice or he gives you the answers :). Gives a lot of homework, but drops a bunch so it's easy to get a good HW grade. Tests are departmental, but similar to the practice tests online and in the workbook. Somewhat boring, but I think he's the best for the class!
He's awesome!
I had him for micro as an adjunct at the local community college. He provides university quality there, which is rare. His class is interesting; he is very passionate about economics and it proves contagious. You will use the workbook consistently, but don't bother with the text book. Lots of work, but he is super helpful.
His interest and enthusiasm make the learning experience all the better
Mr. Ellis is extremely helpful and easy. I can't see anyone not passing this class unless they just fail to show up. Even so, if they read the workbook, the tests are pretty easy. He drops almost half of homework grades, and gives answers on most quizzes! Some test questions can be tricky, but still has been covered. He has a passion for this class
Mr. Ellis is an extremely knowledgeable professor. If you are trying to find a micro or macro teacher, look no further. His class is easy and interesting at the same time. He explains things very thoroughly and makes them understandable. He's one the the best teachers I have had since I've been in college. I'd highly recommend him.
Great Teacher
Great teacher. You will need to workbook or you will surely fail, it's $40. Gives lots of hw but increases your grade, and it's easy, he goes over all the questions in class. If I needed macro I would definitely take him.
AMAZING professor! Litterally one of the BEST professors at UNT!!! I took him for micro and now am taking him for macro! All his students love him and respect him for being such a passionate professor! He is very easy to understand and he makes sure you understand it! We go over homework in class, his notes are all very, very organized! Take him!!!
Best undergraduate Econ teacher at UNT! You will learn so much in his class! He really goes over the material well enough for you to retain. If you actually show up to class and give an effort you will do well. He's also really corny and funny! GREAT teacher!
Prof Ellis is one of my favorite lecturers ever! If you like Econ, take him for your principals classes. His passion and energy are contagious. He likes to recruit Econ majors and minors and will give you a lot of insight and personal attention if you are interested in that. Clear, funny, and a joy to listen to, definitely take an Ellis class.
Attendance is not mandatory, but I would highly recommend it - learning from him is WAY easier than trying to learn it on your own through the workbook. He is great at explaining economics for people who are not economics majors. I highly recommend him!
Definitely one of the best professors at this school. Classes are engaging and clear, he's very helpful for any question you might have, and the work load is very light. It's not a gimme grade, but it would be very hard to do poorly in this class if you complete the small amount of work and attend class.
Great professor! easy to follow along in class and as long as you go to class and stay on top of studying then you'll get an a
Mr. Ellis is a phenomenal teacher you will not be disappointed.
The class is pretty easy and the material is thoroughly explained. However, don't take his class if you aren't patient. He will repeat the exact same sentence 5 or 6 times, very slowly. If you need a professor to tediously break down every concept and go over it multiple times, he's a great professor. He's very friendly and accessible.
he makes a boring class really interesting. almost made me change my major to Econ
Ellis is one of those professors that you can't afford not to take. He is VERY clear during lectures, and VERY helpful. He takes time out of class to make sure everyone is on track and understands the assignments. He is very friendly/approachable. He doesn't lecture too fast and the material isn't difficult. Really increased my interest in ECON.
awesome professor! very organized and straight-forward. would definitely recommend him!
Good professor. Not stunning, but good. I took him for micro and he is clear and won't surprise you at all. Drops a bunch of homework and quizzes. If you understand the class material, then tests won't be hard.
Extremely nice guy. His class is straight forward. He will tell you exactly how he wants everything done and he reminds you of important dates often. I feel like I've actually learned something from him and yes he drops so many homeworks and quizes. Plus a lot of the quiz'z you take are freebees. Great teacher.
Great Professor. Explains concepts thoroughly and is very helpful. Lots of Homework and quizzes but its easy to get full points. Id definitely recommend him
Amazing teacher. He will give the definition then explain in detail what it means. Very easy to understand. Gives random quizes. If you show to class and give minimal effort you should get an A. I never studied, just did the homework and got an A. TAKE HIS CLASS.
Amazing professor!
He makes the class really easy, he drops lots of homeworks and quizzes and gives you half of the answers for homework. He DOES NOT like cell phones in class, but otherwise he is a nice teacher!
Great professor! He is clear and concise in his lecture. Gives a lot of homework and quizzes and drops the lowest ones. As long as you show up to class and take notes, you should do really well on the test. He is invested in giving incentives to those who show up to class even though he doesnt take attendance. Definitely taking this professor again
Dont text in class or he will flip out! Just go to class and listen its not that hard
i took this class over the summer & i had a 79.1 before the final & did well on it but still ended the class with a 79 so he gave me a C!!!! i participated too, i dont like being played. keep your grades up because he wont bump you up..even for .9 points
Ellis is a phenomenal professor. He is very enthusiastic about the subject and a very nice man. He explains everything perfectly and is willing to help you in any way. The textbook explains everything perfectly too so I would recommend reading it. I took this course during the summer and made an A, so it should be even easier during a regular term.
Fabulous teacher. He is so clear that it is hard not to understand if you are paying attention. I took him for multiple classes.
By far the best professor I've ever had!! Take him!!
This class is so boring. All he does is talk the whole class. I have to force myself to stay awake. The quizzes are super confusing & the tests aren't any better.
Extremely rude and contemptuous, especially when responding to emails. Thinks he is the smartest person and economist in the world. Very rigid. Hard tests.
Crystal clear on what he expects from students and meticulous in his lectures. 2 40 question mult. choice exams and a comprehensive 80 question mult. choice final plus homework and quizzes. No papers. Very clear on what is on tests. If you pay attention, write good notes, and attend classes his class will be easy for you!
Great professor! One of the best I have ever had! Explains the material thoroughly, and is ready to help and answer questions from students. Seriously, take him.
Best professor ever! He basically spells out everything you will need to know for every upcoming test/quiz/homework. I breezed through this class just by writing down what he said to write down, and then studying that!
Great professor! Very clear and passionate about teaching students! Lots of homework but so worth it!
This teacher is very helpful. Very Clear. Have to study for tests.
He is nice teacher, but he talk too much. he is willing to help. easy class to get a A with little efforts.
Professor Ellis is probably one of my most favorite teachers at unt. He makes the subject so interesting and it actually makes sense. This class is an easy A if you keep up with the homework & study for the quizzes & essays that he tells you what it's over. For the exams study previous semesters, textbook homework problems and practice problems
Absolutely love him. Best teacher at UNT by far
He was amazing compared to my micro teacher, he explains it so well! I would have taken him for both if i knew he was so amazing! He is always so happy!
EASY. Tests: MEMORIZE the practice tests. HW: gives you like half the answers and you can check it with the health center; drops a bunch of them. Quizzes: really gives a lot of hints to upcoming pop quizzes. He really wants to give you an A.
One of the best professors so far. He takes confusing things and explains them so well that anyone can understand it. I'm hoping to take him again if there's anymore classes I need that he teaches. For sure show up to class, because he goes over a lot of the homework.
He is a great teacher. Explains everything clearly. Test are tough but if you actually study you'll do good. There are pop quizzes along with 3 exams and a writing assignment.
He clearly wants you to pass. He constantly reminds you of upcoming assignments, tests, and quizzes and you even do some quizzes together as a class for an easy 100. He also tells you almost exactly what's going to be on the tests and quizzes. You have to go to class though or else you'll miss important stuff for the tests, quizzes, and homework.
Nice, happy guy
He is the best teacher at UNT! He is very fair and explains material very well.
He teaches in such a way that it's easy to understand the content. I was dreading 8:00 AM microeconomics, but he keeps it interesting. I love going to class. Lots of assignments but they help boost your grade. If you skip a class, you'll fall behind. He's so passionate about it, you won't want to skip.
You just got to show up to class and he puts things in elementary for you. Its simple if you just study a little bit
Love Professor Ellis! This class does take work but he's extremely willing to help you. You have almost thirty homework assignments throughout the semester and he only takes the top 15. It's obvious that he wants you to succeed.
Regardless of whether you're an economics major or just taking economics for core credits, you NEED to take Harry Ellis, Jr.'s class. His class isn't easya blow-off class, by any means and gives quite a few pop-quizzes, but his lectures are very easy to understand and he makes it nearly impossible to fail unless you're lazy or don't show up.
I struggled with macro through high school, but I did so much better in Mr. Ellis's class. I love the way he had his notes set up and the way he taught. The tests come straight from the notes you take in class.
He is a great TEACHER not only does he know what he is talking about like any professor, but he manages to help you LEARN, not just memorize the book. He isn't "fun", but you will end up with a better grade and better knowledge on the subject.
One of my absolutely favorite professors of ALL time. I had him my freshman year and am now a junior. I got an easy A in the class thanks to him. He really enjoys what he teachers and makes the class enjoyable for students! He is so helpful with any questions you may have.
I had a perfect attendance and perfect hmrk & quiz grade, i wasent happy with the grade i received if you fail at least one test you basically fail the course. Would not reccomend.
Very friendly and great at explaining economic concepts. He's also always enthusiastic about what he's teaching which helps.
Ellis is AMAZING. Seriously I recommend him to everyone. He really cares about his students and wants them to understand and learn, not just memorize things for the tests. He drops a lot of grades so it's not hard to get an A. Go to class and you'll be fine. He's the best prof I've ever had. I can't say enough good things.
Ellis is amazing! He is very intelligent and you can tell that he is passionate about teaching. Everything is very straight forward and he makes it easy for you to make an A, as long as you pay attention and do homework. The practice tests are SUPER helpful. Highly recommend him.
He is one of the best professors I have had at UNT! I definitely recommend him. His lectures are simple and the exams are not hard if you study. Get ready to use your textbook A LOT! He drops lowest homework and quiz grades.
Fun guy. I wish he taught all my classes.
This is second time taking Professor Ellis, and I am again super impressed with him! He is so helpful with any questions you may have! He gives pop quizzes, but if you're in class, he'll give you hints as to when they are. You do have to work for your grade in this class. Not an easy A by any means, but an A is achievable. The work is doable.
Easily the best Professor I have EVER had. He cares so much about teaching this subject and he is very passionate. You can tell he really loves to teach economics. His notes are very nicely outlined, making it very easily to follow along and he helps you prepare for tests and quizzes a lot. If you don't take him for Econ than you messed up.
Professor Ellis is such an amazing teacher. The grading criteria is super clear from the very first day of class. He makes econ super easy and if you go to class everyday you will be able to make an A. I HIGHLY recommend him as he made me actually enjoy economics. Five hw assignments, few quizzes and three tests. MANAGEABLE!!
Do yourself a favor and take him for your 1st year ECON classes. Fantastic lecturer, goes over homework questions, hints about quizzes, and makes Economics accessible to everybody. No electronics allowed in his class or you risk getting dropped from the course, but it's really easy to stay engaged with his lectures.
Honestly a great professor, but make sure you attend class. Policies on late work, electronics, and well, just about everything are incredibly strict so make sure to follow his directions to a tee and you should be fine.
Some people might think he is over the top with his energy, but without everything he did during the semester I would not have passed. his lectures were so easy to follow and understand, they helped so much on tests and quizzes. He gives obvious hints to when quizzes are, so it's very helpful. Attend class and stay off of your phone, it's not hard.
I had Dr. Harry Ellis in 90 or 91 (95-BBA Fina) and I was just telling my 10 and 11 year old why Dr. Ellis was my favorite teacher. Dr. Ellis smiled All THE TIME and his enthusiasm for economics made it interesting. Dr. Ellis is the only professor I really remember from my undergraduate studies and he was my favorite!
He is an amazing professor. Works well with students. Easy A as long as you do the homework assignments and pay attention to class lectures. If you don't understand something in the lecture, the book is easy to read.
He is absolutely one of my favorite professors! His lectures are thorough and easy to follow. The book is straightforward & easy to read and learn with the help of practice problems. His exams are not a walk in the park, but study hard and they'll be easy A's. Always enthusiastic and will help you if you're struggling. Please take him if you can!
Professor Ellis is amazing his notes are crystal clear and follows the book. He is very nice and helpful and will give you hints in class about upcoming quizzes and due dates. Must have book everyday might have pop quiz that he will do with you Easy A! Use Econ lab to check answers no reason no to have a 100 homework avg.
Absolutely loved Mr. Ellis!! Dreaded taking this class but that changed once I took this class with him. He's a great professor, super enthusiastic and knows his material!
Hands down of the best professors I've had. I had him for Microeconomics as well, and he still holds up. He's a very passionate about teaching so when it comes to cellphones he's strict. He's incredible when it comes to notes, because if its an important term he will say it slowly and repeat it. He even gives warnings when there will be quizzes.
If you want to actually learn the material and enjoy class everyday, take Harry Ellis! He was my favorite professor my freshman year and I still think he has made a significant impact on my college career as a whole. You will succeed in this class, you will learn the material, and you will not feel overwhelemed when its test time.
Ellis Is a great professor that really knows what he is talking about. You will have a handful of HW, assignments, papers, and tests, but you will do fine as long as you come to class and study. I also plan to take Macro with Ellis this upcoming fall because he was such a good professor.
Prof. Ellis is a really amazing instructor and very energetic. Very friendly and is always willing to help. He is extremely against cell phone usage and after a few times you may get dropped from the course. Other than that, he helps very much. Economics can be a difficult course but he makes it clear to understand and remember. Would take again!
Great guy, well known around the school. Attendance is not required but you better show up. Skip a few classes and soon you'll be way behind on material, miss easy points on pop quizzes, etc... Show up, do every assignment, and get all your hw checked at the econ help center. No reason not to get all the hw points possible. Easy to understand.
If you have the opportunity to take this man, please do. He gives old school lectures (writes the outlines on the board with chalk, no power points, memorizes definitions) when something is important, he slows down and repeats it so you can write it down. Easy A if you do the work. Hates cell phone use and being disrespected. Please don't do that.
Ellis REALLY knows what he talks about. his lectures are very organized and easy to follow, he will explain things to death to make sure everyone understands. very nice. Strict about electronic usage, just don't get them out and study outside of class and it's a simple course
Ellis was such a good professor he made me consider changing my major to Economics. I am still thinking of doing a minor in the subject. He is a great professor who is passionate on the subject of economics. He will truly make you understand the principles beyond the classroom.
If you get the chance to take his class, TAKE IT!! He definantly knows the subject. Several pop quizzes, sometimes he does the quizzes with us. Can get your homework check at the economics center. Loved his class, very sweet.
Wonderful professor. I took him for both Macro (ECON 1110) and Micro (ECON 1100). If I could take him again, I would in a heart beat. I had him at 8 am and then 9:30am back to back, but his lectures were very engaging so I never fell asleep. Tests are easy, check homework at the help center, and show up. Easy A.
His lectures are so informative. The textbook is so affordable and actually used a lot. There is one essay and 3 tests. If you show up to class he tries to give you hints on upcoming extra credit or quizzes. He is very patient and will offer lots of help with concepts and homework.
He is the absolute best professor you will ever take!! I took him 2 semesters in a row because I loved the way he teaches! TAKE HIM!
Took this guy back fall and he is one of my faves. Very enthusiastic, smart and likable guy. Very strict on using electronics, but his lectures make up for it because they are strong and clear enough to keep students engaged. The workbook is a must, so bring it to class everyday. 6 pop quizzes and 1 essay. Stay consistent and you'll do great.
Attendance isnt mandatory, however, he purposely doesnt put anything assignments, or exams on the syllabus to encourage students to go to class. Assigns homework the week before its due. Writes headlines for notes on whiteboard at the beginning of class, then just discusses those bullet points. So not much visual. Very insensitive.
All I can say is HE IS A LEGEND haha. Great prof., made econ actually interesting. He's my spirit animal lol.
An amazing professor! His lectures are really good for the stuff you need to know. He's very nice and easy on grading. He gave tips for exams and went over homework answers in class. He made me realize how good I was in economics and it encouraged me to pursue a minor in it. TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.
Very clear and beneficial lectures, gives you exactly what you need to do well on the exams. Put in some effort, do your homework, and you will get an easy A.
Amazing professor who actually teaches what he loves! Learning from him guarantees that you will actually understand the information!
He loves what he's teaching which makes lectures easy to follow but make sure you actually study because he may seem like a nice guy but he has no problem failing your assignment on minor details. Final exam is a hefty portion of the grade so wouldnt recommend if you're not a good test taker.
He is AMAZING. TAKE HIM. I am taking him for my next Econ class. He really cares for his students and wants you to pass. He tells you when the pop quizzes will be and gave a ton of extra credit. His tests are challenging but they come from the workbook. The class isn't mandatory, but you need his lecture notes.
His lectures are very engaging and he loves teaching. DONT USE YOUR PHONE, HE TAKES POINTS OFF! To get an A in this class, you need to study the workbook along with his notes and do the HW right after the lecture and USE THE HELP CENTER. The old sample exams arent exactly like the exams but he says economics doesnt change very much! Hint hint.
This class was interesting. Mr. Ellis made the topics somewhat easy to understand for most, however the class was BORING to me. I failed both tests, and I passed the final and made a C in the course. By visiting his office hours, I got a clearer picture on what I needed to do to pass. DO NOT USE YOUR PHONE IN CLASS! YOU WILL LOSE POINTS!
I love this professor! He doesn't allow any electronic devices to be used in class and I thought I would hate that, but in reality it helped me focus more in class. He doesn't use powerpoints to lecture but he writes out the outline and important information needed on the white board. A workbook is needed for the class but it wasn't that expensive
He is a wonderful teacher and clearly lectures the topics. You do need the workbook but it also has information in it. He lets you know what is going to be on the test and he lets you know when there is a quiz coming up. 10/10 take Ellis for econ!!
Clear lectures and a good technique of teaching. Gives solid revision for exams. Overall, an inspirational professor who is best in his business!
You guys, he is the sweetest man ever. I look forward to going to going to his class because he's an amazing teacher!!! His lectures are very clear and thorough. The class requires a good amount of work, but if you do the workbook and the practice exams before the tests, you'll pass with flying colors. Taking him for my next Econ class.
He is a very slow speaker and will take about 10 minutes to explain a definition. Wastes about 30 minutes every class period giving out homework answers. The material in the required textbook is not the same that he teaches, and is sometimes conflicting, which he says he does "on purpose". Very controlling and confusing at times.
Professor Ellis is my best professor since going to college. He carefully explains each topic during lectures and helps out a lot with homework questions. If you go to every class and takes notes there is a good chance you will do well on the tests. 10/10 would take again.
Professor Ellis is great! I've taken him for 1100 and 1110. He is by far the most well-spoken professor when it comes to explaining terms during lectures and giving directions for assignments or homework. Go to the help center for homework for a guaranteed 100% for a homework grade and for any other tutoring you need!
Amazing professor, you will learn a lot if interested. Very helpful when it comes to lecturer and anything left unclear. He does NOT tolerate technology use in class, very strict on plagiarism and note-selling. Took him for microeconomics, 8 am class, but didn't regret waking up for his class. Will be taking him again for macro next semester.
Im really glad I chose him as my micro professor. He really knows what he is taking about. I wish he taught all my classes lol. There are lots of opportunities to review before the test. Go to the econ center to check HW, and youll always get a A on those. He gives a few extra credit opportunities but not many. I highly suggest you take him!
If you go to class, listen to his lectures, focus and take notes, then you will make an A if not a high B in this class. It is very straightforward. Ellis is a very good lecturer. He puts humor into his lectures and always has a smile on his face in class. He doesn't allow phones in class, but that is so you can FOCUS. Very great professor overall.
Awesome professor. Some may say his lectures are boring, but his notes are very specific and thorough, not much reading in the book is required (besides homework). Attendance is not for a grade, but missing class could result in missing out on assignments. Highly recommend him if your one that struggles with the material or need an easy class.
Harry Ellis might be my favorite professor I've ever had! I took him for both Econ courses (I'm an accounting major) and I did better in those classes than my others. He explains the concepts so thoroughly but is also concise. Also, he's super caring and easy to listen to. Take his class!
Best Professor Ever, Take him for Micro and Macro! The best lecturer there ever was, and literally the sweetest person on Earth! I wish he taught al my classes
Ellis has super good lectures that are actually really interesting, made time go by and you actually understand the material. You do have to study tho because exams are not that easy or straightforward so he does make you put in the work but overall very sweet prof, puts humor in lectures and is a good choice.
One of the best professors at UNT. His lectures are on point and easy to understand. His ECON class actually inspired me to become an ECON major, loved his class that much
Really kind professor with organized lectures that make it easy to take notes (even though they can feel a bit too slow sometimes). Almost everything was on paper, so go to class! Exams are straightforward with some basic studying, and you might not even need to do some assignments at the end of the year if you already have the grade you want!
Professor Ellis is seriously the BEST professor I have ever had. He truly loves what he teaches, and makes it interesting. He will answer questions and explain until the class understands concepts. He does not allow phones, but for good reason. He is the kindest man and so easy to respect! Truly cares for his students and is just so sweet!
I absolutely despised Econ in high school but after taking econ with Professor Ellis, I changed my major to business economics. He is super clear and concise when teaching and gives you so many opportunities to improve your grade. He tells you exactly what you need to know and makes learning super interesting.
Cheap with grade points. Talks a lot. Class may be better taken online. Professor isnt helpful. Lazy. Would often direct students to learning center rather than help. Read the workbook thoroughly. No need to hear this man talk. Ever known one so boring it breaks bones?
He is probably one of the worse teachers you can possibly take. You can never ask for help unless you want some snarky comment back in return. He does not really ever consider other peoples circumstances or feelings at all. In addition to this, he has favoritism throughout his classes.
He really cares about the class and lectures are very well taught. He will over explain everything to make sure everyone understands and highlights things that will be on the exams. Exams are very similar to the homework and practice test. Gives pop quizzes to make sure you attend classes, but he does drop the lowest grades. strict with phones.
I HATE economic and he made this class amazing! Please pay attention and show up ready to learn I promise its worth it. His lectures are great, super funny and entertaining! Love love love
The textbook is paramount! A key tip: Read some chapters before lecture and Mr. Ellis will review them in class. The Econ Help Center helps a lot. Mr. Ellis is absolutely wonderful!! He gives clear explanations and many chances for Extra Credit. He's very strict about NO PHONES.
Professor Ellis is very kind with the homework assignments he gives (gives a week). If his attendance gets low, he does give quizzes as incentives, but if you show up he tells you EXACTLY what is on them. He doesn't like irresponsible students, so just pay attention when he gives announcements. HE KNOWS HIS ECONOMICS. I will be taking him again!
I listened to people who rated him highly and it was a BIG mistake. He is a good professor but his lectures are very boring and he explains things very quick. His homework is easy and on quizlet. But his tests are HORRIBLE if you dont take GREAT notes you will fail the class. We had a groupme for the class and no one knew what was ever going on
Lectures can sometimes be a bit boring and going over the chapter on your own time helps a lot. Homework was fairly simple, Professor Ellis would go over some questions in class and you can check the rest at the learning center. Overall I would say Professor is a sold choice for ECON 1100.
I was not a big fan of Ellis. I got more clarification at the help center on campus. But he's not the worst. He just has a tendency of not planning quizzes' spacing well & punishing the whole class for a few student's choices or slack. And he is VERY knit-picky so be CAREFUL when losing points on quizzes and the written assignments.
Dr. Ellis is incredible sweet and loves Econ, you can hear the passion in his voice. But despite helping us out with homework and having fairly easy quizzes, exams are super hard and time consuming. Typically, I am one of the 1st to finish exams, but I had to always use every second to finish one of his. I feel like business majors perform well tho
I love this prof and the way the class was formatted. You can always get an A on hw by checking your answers at the learning center. Exams will come easy if you read the textbook, learn the formulas and fill the chapter outline he provides. If you don't read the textbook or watch to the lecture, then you will struggle.
Professor Ellis was an okay professor! I took microeconomics, I found it very hard to pay attention and get involved in material because of the way it was presented to us. If you dont do well on a test your grade will drop a ton. many pop quizzes but overall not too difficult
Ellis is one of the most genuinely kind professors I've come across, which makes him fun to learn from. His lessons teach you exactly what you need to know, multiple times. Exam questions come directly from his class examples or homework, so just pay attention and you'll do great.
He is so caring and invested in his teaching. I took him for Micro and now Macro and I enjoyed going to his virtual class each time. He explains content really well, and majority of the time you don't have to read the textbook. The book is cheap, and it has the hw in it. There will be quizzes!!!
The work can get hard at times and there's a lot of it. However, prof. Ellis does everything he possibly can to get you a higher grade. He really cares about his students. He is so sweet and has the best patience. He also gives bonus points at the end of the semester to help with your grade!
Best professor so far. Very clear about what he expects & assigns. Lots of homework, but the Help Center gives you all answers aside from what Ellis gives in class. You need to study, but Ellis is a great professor, accessible in & out of class. Drops lowest test (including final), drops a quiz, gives bonuses. I highly recommend for micro & macro.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! He is not understanding at all to your circumstances nor is the TA. The writing assignments are pointless & the rubric is VERY specific. For ex, I wrote written report about an article that was 2 days more recent than the range stated & he gave me a 20. Don't waste your time or energy on this man that does NOT recognize effort.
Professor Ellis is one of the most genuine people I've ever encountered. I took him for Intro to Micro and Macro, and his teaching style is 2nd to none. He is incredibly clear and concise on how to do every step of the material, so pay attention to his lectures and you'll have no problem getting an A in this course. Online was open book & note.
Prof. Ellis is solid. Lectures are very important! The class isn't easy, but if you show up and put in the requisite work you should have no issues.
Harry Ellis is one of the best professors I have taken at UNT. He is very caring about his students and actually wants you to learn the material. I took him right when COVID hit, but even online his class was amazing. He is a great lecturer and gives tons of extra credit. Take him for your economics class!
Harry Ellis is the best professor I've ad at UNT. He is the nicest and most caring professor you will ever have. Very steady-paced, organized, bulleted lectures. He drops one test and quiz grade for the course, and there are homework assignments about every two weeks. DO NOT TAKE ANYONE ELSE BESIDES HIM I PROMISE YOU! An easy A if you go to class!
Professor Ellis is amazing! Im not a morning person, but I will DRAG myself out of bed to make it to his 8 am lectures. He is very passionate and really wants his students to understand and pass. He helps the class with homework, and is very clear in his lectures. I dont find the textbook to be very helpful, so I relied on lectures.
Professor Ellis is incredibly nice. He has slow detailed lectures, so as long as you pay attention youll be fine. He has a review for each exam, go over the review and youll be fine. He answers questions very well including emails. Hes caring and understanding just communicate if youll miss an exam or be late for a quiz.
One of the best professors I have taken this semester. His teaching style is very helpful. Even though there are a handful of assignments, he answers some in class and you can also check your answers at the help center. There are quizzes but easy if you paid attention. Exams are huge with them being 75% overall average. I will take him for Macro :)
Econ is hard Harry Ellis makes it as easy as possible. Just study and take notes every class it's that simple. His lectures are packed but he slows it down perfectly where I never felt rushed and actually go to soak up the info. He has been doing this for a long time so he knows econ like its written on his hand l'll be taking him for macro
This was my second time taking him an he is probably my favorite teacher I ever had. His lectures are easy to understand and he has no problem answering questions on anything if you are confused. He gives a lot of extra credit towards the end of the semester and curved a few exams. He is just a very sweet guy and he wants you to succeed.
Amazing professor! If you are looking to take principles of economics, which I think satisfies some core curriculum criteria, definitely take him!!!
Loved his class! His class was fun and lectures were easy to follow. There are some pop quizzes but he will usually give you hints of when they're taking place. Super sweet professor, made economics as fun as possible.
Dr. Ellis is genuinely the first kind instructor I've had in my academic career. He really embodies what it means to be a teacher. I failed every single test and quiz, & passed this class b/c I studied hard for the final. it can be easy if you just go to class & study what he gives you, don't miss due dates & do ALL the Tophat Qs and you'll be fine
Amazing professor who is very passionate and really wants his students to do well. He was a caring professor and had funny lectures. Did a great job explaining content.
Prof. Ellis is truly a great teacher. He actually cares about his students and wants them to succeed. Do not skip class!
Such a good professor! I took macro in the summer and it was a breeze. His lectures were very easy to understand and lets us ask homework questions every class.
This professor was amazing. His lectures and explanations were incredible and made everything make sense. He tends to assign 4-5 homework assignments over a few weeks, and every class session tells you half of the answers to the assignments. I highly recommend!!!
He is an amazing professor for those who are visual learners and get anxious when it comes to writing all notes from lecture quickly. His lectures are slower paced than most and offers you time to write down all of the information to succeed in the class. You can tell he cares about you succeeding in his class!
Professor Ellis was literally the best professors that I have had. His grading was very clear, he was very fair, and gave lots of resources for his students.
Mr. Ellis is one of the best professors I've had. His lectures are very cleared and slowed paced. He gives out quizzes throughout the semester, but if you attend class he will give you hints on when the quiz will be and what to study for. He also gives practice exams that are very similar to the actual exam.
He was a great instructor and the amount of homework on TopHat was moderate. I appreciate that he would communicate tests, quizzes, and other assignments well in advance. He also made outside resources readily available.
Such an amazing professor, simplified and made concepts easy to follow and understand. Made known of upcoming assignments, provided a lot of resources and extra material if needed. Very friendly and made class interesting. Take one of his courses if you get the chance!
I took Ellis for Micro and Marco. His class structure is simple 4 tests, 6 quizzes, 2 writing assignments, and homework every week or two. His lectures can get a bit boring at times but it's the course itself mainly, he adds stories and jokes to try and help. You'll pass his class with ease, but you have to come to class even though it's optional
Could be the best professor at UNT, he outlined his lectures so well, went over the exam review clearly, was available for help anytime you need, and really wants his students to succeed. The homework is easy and as long as you take notes you will pass. Could not recommend him enough.
Great Guy
You definitely need to attend class, because of the random pop quizzes. He will typically go over questions from the homework before it is due. The only downfall is that quizzes are 5 questions and 10 minutes long. You cannot take electronic notes or record the lectures due to department policy.
I would definitely take his class again. Mr Ellis is clear about deadlines, gives great lectures and also lets you know when there will be quizzes if you go to class. The material is pretty hard but he does a great job of explaining. I would just recommend going to class or else it'll be hard.
Very easy if you attend lectures (or you can read the book but that's boring). He does do quizzes, but he'll tell you in advance what's going to be on them. Thde final essay isn't that hard which is good. Content can be boring sometimes, but he tries to make it engaging.
Love this prof!! He is well versed in what he is teaching, straight to the point and does very well explaining the subject. Learned a lot more than expected. Would def take his class again.
He was the best professor I've ever had. He gives many chances for extra credit, and the assignments aren't hard. The exams are similar to the reviews, so make sure you go over that. He genuinely cares about your grade. 10/10 would definitely take again.
Harry Ellis is a sweet & funny man willing to help students, especially if you put in effort. Attendance is not required but important to know the material better. My biggest tip is to use the resources, if you don't understand the material, ask questions, read the book and attend the online "lab" sessions that review your answers. Loves Cheerios
Mr. Ellis is such a great dude. His lectures were super informative and he gives a ton of chances to relearn concepts before exams. It makes a lot of sense that he's the principal lecturer of economics, because he is extremely good at his job. The UNT economics department has very high quality professors, but this guy is the cream of the crop.
You can tell that he knows what he's talking about and he's very clear and concise. The content isn't crazy hard and the optional final can replace your lowest test score. Just study for the tests enough and you'll be able to get a good grade in the class. He's very sweet but the week of the final there are no more extra credit opportunities.
Great teacher. The notes are guided and as long as you take them the class and exams are easy. The study guides are optional but do them (I only got a bad grade on one exam because I forgot to do it). The only writing assignment is only worth 4%.
Stickler for his grading scale, will not round even if your final grade was a 89.87. Although attendance is not graded, Mr. Ellis does everything in class, such as quizzes and reviews the material before tests, so attend class no matter what. Overall, he's an amazing lecturer and helps you understand the material with ease.
Easy to talk to.
He doesn't post his notes online so it's very important to go to class, but his lectures are great and what he does go over in class is very thorough and the notes will get you by well. He lets you ask questions about the homework in class and does good exam reviews. I would've taken him for 1110 as well if his course time aligned with my schedule.
I took my first (and only) 8 am to make sure I got Ellis as a professor again. His lectures are amazing, he gives many examples and reviews homework questions along with exam questions. The material isn't always easy to understand but he's good at making it understandable. There should be more like him at UNT.
He gives hints about pop quizzes and makes exams similar to the practice ones. Homework is on Tophat and he goes over half of the homework in class. While attendance isn't mandatory you'll most likely not pass the class if you don't at least go and attend the lectures (which are very in depth). Overall Very wholesome little guy and great professor!
I hate economics but Mr. Ellis was extremely entertaining and fun to listen to. I would say he could have had his notes more organized than just writing out bullet points on the blackboard, but to be fair we were in Wooten Hall and that place has like no technology and his personality more than makes up for it.
Professor Ellis makes the dry subject of economics engaging. While attendance is key, his clear lectures and helpful study materials, like unstuckstudy ai, make this class manageable. Overall, a great professor who cares about student learning.
Nicest professor ever, interesting lectures, and will answer any and all questions. Paper based classes, all notes and exams done on paper. Homework is online. Hope I get to take him again.
He has a great personality and his lectures are somewhat interesting. Everything is covered in class so if you don't attend you will fail. He lets you ask questions about the homework ahead of time and explains and gives you the answers. A big thing is he doesn't allow computers for notes. Overall he is a great option if you're taking ECON1100
I enjoyed having Professor Ellis for Microeconomics, and I'm taking his class for Macroeconomics next semester. He is an amazing lecturer and is knowledgable about what he teaches. He often helps with homework and gives hints for what will be on tests and quizzes. However, this class can be difficult if you don't study for exams and quizzes.
Professor was so good I changed my major to business economics. Made sure everyone understood him, made everything clear, and he's an absolute joy to be around.
Honestly, this was one of the only class where the Professor did not just read the material off the slides. He actually teaches you the material. His policy is that you can't have an iPad or Phone during class period (must be turned off) but his practice tests and in class explanations are very helpful. Would totally recommend this class!
I found his lectures to be really boring but he is so nice and seems like he genuinely cares about his students, but go to his classes and actually study cause I didn't the first half of the semester and I had a F for most of the semester, BUT he gives extra credit and drops exams and quizzes. Really good guy.
By far and away the best professor I've ever had. Prof. Ellis clearly cares for his students and genuinely has some of the best lectures ever. He is clearly passionate about economics and is always willing to answer questions with a smile on his face. Honestly, can't recommend enough and his lectures alone made coming to class worth it for me.
Definitely the best professor I've had to date. Not even a business major but the simplified lectures and way of teaching made me succeed in this class. He is very clear and organized on his assignments so be sure to pay attention, doing the reviews will definitely help on exams. He also offers extra credit and drops your lowest exam grade.
Econ 1100 was one of the easiest classes I've ever taken. Attendance isn't technically mandatory as in he doesn't grade attendance, but if you want to make an A, I would attend his lectures. There is a handwritten essay that's due at the end of the semester with very specific instructions but it's pretty doable.
Old school professor, does not allow the usage of laptops, phones nor iPads. Which is very good because it made the class focus a lot more on the lectures. Honestly if you did good in economics while in high school, you shouldn't have any issues as he goes over the everything in class as well. The project is a few pages long and is hand written.
Mr. Ellis was the best professor I've ever had! It's obvious that he loves his job and is always happy and enthusiastic. He's old school, so he doesn't allow electronics in the classroom, but it ended up being extremely helpful because it helped me pay attention more. All of the homework was easy, and he always helped prepare for exams. CHOOSE HIM!
Super happy and kind guy!! Always willing to answer questions and help students better understand the material. The class may be a little difficult if it's your first econ class but hes a great professor definitely reccomend.
Professor Ellis was very kind and engaging with the class. He made expectations clear and was sure to provide all necessary information needed to receive a good grade in class. This wasn't the professors fault but be ready to study and prepare for exams as they are a HUGE percentage of your grade, so be sure to attend class and take proper notes.
AMAZING, you can tell he's really passionate and cares about students passing. As long as you actually show up to class and really listen you'll pass exams. He doesn't allow electronics so all notes must be handwritten. I suggest making a friend in the class so you don't fall behind if you miss a lecture cause you'll be confused next class.
Very easy class to pass IF you go to the lectures. The workbook provided with TopHat can also help you, but it's best if you just go to the class. There is an essay that is due close to the end of the semester so PLEASE if you take this class, don't wait until the last minute to do it, like I did lol.
Go to lecture! He's not going to post his lecture slides. You're not going to do well if you don't. Study the homework's and test review. The department has a 76 as a 'B'
If you attend the lectures and actually ask questions when you need clarification on things, you will be in awe as to how helpful this guy is. He knows his materials, he knows his students, and he knows how to relate his materials to his students. 1000/10 would recommend him to anyone at UNT who has to take the introductory ECON courses.
He is a very sweet prof. Lectures cover everything in exams, he also gives practice exams that are very similar to the real exam. Pay attention and you won't even have to study. I never missed a single test question all year. You can tell he loves his subject. You won't even have to take the final if you have an A alr. Take him!
An amazing teacher, is very good at explaining concepts and takes his time to say important, note-worthy definitions for topics. Is very lenient with the grading system and I would say that it's incredibly forgiving since he also reviews exam material with students and gives out comprehensive review papers. Incredible teacher, would take again.
He is very caring about his students and want them to pass. His class was not too hard, but do expect to still study if you want to pass this class. His exam reviews are 95% similar to his real exams so those were very helpful. I would absolutely reccomend and take his class again.
