Horrible professor that doesnt know how to teach. Has other professors teach for him. You have 6 papers, he is really picky about the cites you use, he doesnt know how to explain his papers but if you do well on the final paper thats about grading yourself then you will pass.
Terrible. Attendence matters, and the class is SO boring. He hardly teaches, has guest speakers in, is super lazy, and you learn close to nothing. You have 6 papers, which he wants in a particular way, but POORLY COMMUNICATES the directions. ugh.
Took this class because it was a requirement as a PR major. WORST TEACHER EVER! practically failed 80% of the class on the 3rd or 4th paper from what i recall due to his idiotic, unclear directions. Does not give second chances on papers, whatever you get you gotta deal with it. Just an awful prof. dont take him!
I was so afraid when I read the reviews on here about this man because I had to take his class, which was Intro to Communications. He's nothing like the reviews! In the class I'm in, basically everyone gets As on papers. We watch lots of videos. He answers emails quickly and always offers help. Not bad at all.
Haines is a great professor. If you read and pay attention, the tests are easy. He's fair with grading papers (and only one actually requires outside research). Responds quickly if you need extra help, and will accommodate you in circumstances regarding the department's strict attendance policy if you do well and participate in class.
ONE OF THE BEST AND MOST ENTERTAINING PROFESSORS YOU WILL EVER HAVE. ALTHOUGH THE TESTS CAN BE A PAIN, OTHER ASSIGNMENTS AND A PROJECT WILL HELP AND HAINES IS AWESOME AND HILARIOUS WITH WHAT HE TEACHES LIKE BS AND A YIDDISH TERM CALLED "SCHLEP"! HE ALSO ONE DAY IN CLASS HAD EVERYONE CALL A CLOSE FAMILY MEMBER OR FRIEND TO EXPLAIN TO THEM A MESSAGE
AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL. Ok 1st of all- he takes WAY too long to hand stuff back to students. We waited 2 months to get a paper back that didn't have any corrections on the material- just the format. He doesn't prepare you for exams and he missed more classes then I did!
avoid if you can. he barely goes to class and if he does, he's watching another comm. teacher lecture. i think he taught three classes all semester. takes forever to hand things back and when you get them back no comments
Smart, articulate and fair. People that show up and study his study guides will do very well.
Grade was based on 2 papers and 2 tests. Nice guy, but unclear with directions for his assignments. Attendance isn't required but make sure to go to his classes. If you pay attention and study all the notes he gives you (even seemingly unimportant things), you'll do fine.
Joseph is da bombdiggity dogg
Harry is a fair and helpful guy who is wildly entertaining. His lectures do run on every once in a while but I really enjoyed having him.
Dr. Harry Haines is a beloved professor of mine, and I am wildly thrilled to have the opportunity to learn from this intelligent creature. PS jozev is up there as well.
ABSOLUTELY THE WORST TEACHER I'VE TAKEN SO FAR IN THE SCHOOL OF MEDIA ARTS AT MSU. I usually never write comments on teachers but I had to comment on him. Most boring professor ever. He likes hearing himself talk , and doesn't care at all about his students. Takes forever to give back anything and unwilling to help you. NEVER AGAIN.
Contrary to all the prior comments, Harry is a great professor. He's got style, an impeccable sense of humor, and he grades fairly. His class was incredibly easy. I read the first two chapters of the textbook and didn't bother reading the rest. Aced the final exam, regardless. Your grade is based on three exams and two papers. Give Harry a chance!
2 papers that are really easy, 3 tests that combine the book and his lectures. I'd recommend him, trying to take 210 with him.
Harry Haines is great. He's clear, got style (uses the word "hip" a lot), and makes class both entertaining and informative. I highly recommend.
I love professor Haines. He really loves what he does and he knows so much about communication and the media. Really open minded person overall - also a fair grader. Will help you if you need it. Highly recommend.
3 Tests and a 10 page paper. His tests are literally straight from his powerpoints and sometimes the readings. Really interesting class with boatloads of cool material. Take him if you can.
He is a really funny guy and I actually didn't mind sitting there for his lectures sometimes. He really wants students to succeed, not only in class, but with their careers, too. Two quizzes, two tests, and a paper. He also gives out extra credit options.
This is my second time taking Dr. Haines and I gained a lot of respect for him. I wasn't sure about him after my first experience but I have adjusted to his class style big time. He's an interesting, humorous, and kindhearted teacher that wants the students to succeed in life. Would take again.
Professor Haines is a great guy with a unique sense of humor. Very knowledgable about the material. He is very nice but a tough grader. You are probably able to get away with not reading all the material in the text, however it can be beneficial for when the exams come around. He does not take attendance but you don't want to miss the handouts.
COMPLETELY HORRIBLE PROFESSOR! POINTLESS LECTURES THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH WHAT IS ON THE TEST. SHOULD NOT BE TEACHING BECAUSE HE CLEARLY DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO! BEWARE OF THIS PROFESSOR!
Haines has to be one of the worst communications professors I have ever taken. His syllabus is all over the place and makes almost no sense. His lectures are basically pointless and they just contain pictures. Two tests, a final and a 10 page paper and that's it. Would stay clear of him and definitely would not take again!!
This guy is one of the worst professors I had. He barely teaches the class, just loves hearing himself talk and comes off as a conceded tool. He expects everyone to understand what he's saying. The class is centered around a 10 page paper which he gives you no help for, or a clear outline on how to write the paper. I'd avoid him at all costs.
Haines is a terrible professor and definitely that worst that I have dealt with in the Communication department!! The syllabus is 14 pages of random words that make no sense and his lectures consist of pictures and no helpful info. 10 page paper with absolutely no guidelines or clarity. Says he's there to help but he does make any sense at all!!
Haines is great guy and is EXTREMELY knowledgeable in the communication field. However, I had to use Google to understand anything in his class. He doesn't go over the homework readings which are extremely long and terribly confusing. He gave no help for the final 10pg paper, but I think everyone got a 90 or above anyways.
I really enjoyed Haine's class. The book will definitely help you but I never picked it up for either of his classes. If you go to class and look at his slides you will do fine. If you actively listen in the class, he gives good examples. Did end up with a 89.9 in 210 and he wouldn't round it up to an A-. Does offer one extra credit assisgnment.
Harry haines is the best professor I've ever taken in my life. He gets you involved in the conversation, all of his tests are super easy and his door is always open for help. You would be lucky to be able to take Harry Haines as many times as possible.
If you want to genuinely learn something, this is not your guy. If you need to fill a requirement, want an A, and not have to show up to class, then this is a great professor for you. He is a really easy, nice guy. Unlike most ppl in the comm dept, he is unbiased in politics and doesn't push his opinions on you.
You only really need one of the two books, Ott and Mack, and you'll use that more for your 10 page paper and the "pop" quizzes. Attendance is not required, but exams are heavily influenced on the lectures. There may also be questions that are specific to if you were in class. Worked for my A, as it didn't come easy for me.
Haines is a good guy, tries to make class fun and jokes throughout lecture. He doesn't give tests, you get a final project (can be group or solo) and a few papers. Participation is a huge part of his lecture, he likes discussions. Doesn't take attendance- says it's your problem if you don't show as you miss out. Relaxed atmosphere and interesting.
Professor Haines claims to be very accessible outside of class, but he has office hours that he won't show up to, even if you make an appointment. He forces his political opinion down your throat and loves to hear himself talk. Oh, he also loves to insult our class and call us all stupid because at least half of us have never used APA format before
If you do not like reading a whole textbook during a semester it is best to avoid him. The classes are lecture heavy and some of them have nothing to do with what is on the exam. If you have an open mind, you will succeed in the class. The 10 page paper for this class he gives you absolutely no help. He is a nice person but not a great professor.
He doesn't inform his students at all. About anything. We had a 10 page paper but when more than half of us were done with it he THEN decided to tell us that in needed to be APA format so we all needed redo it a week before it was due. He's not clear whats on tests, quizzes or even what to put into the paper. You're all on your own in this class.
Haines is a decent enough guy, but he doesn't give enough info for what the exams are on, and gives to guidelines whatsoever for 10 page paper. If you are good at keeping an open mind and basing a 10 page paper on very little, you'll manage. He's pretentious and conceited during his lectures, and loves his own opinion. Hated listening to him.
NOTE TO CMDA 210 STUDENTS: DO NOT TAKE HIM! BUT IF YOU DO, BEWARE OF POP QUIZZES! READ THE TEXTBOOK AND UNDERSTAND THE LECTURE OR YOU WILL FAIL. YOU HAVE TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO WRITE THE 10 PAGE PAPER ON YOUR OWN AS HE WILL NOT HELP YOU. LECTURES ARE VERY BORING AND MANY PEOPLE USUALLY FALL ASLEEP. I WOULD RECOMMEND NOT TAKING THIS PROFESSOR.
Biggest waste of a class. I barely learn anything from the lectures. Just do yourself a favor and don't take him. I'd rather stick kitchen utensils in wall outlets then take this professor again
This guy talks about gender and sexuality inappropriately, he doesn't show up to his own office hours, he gives a 10 page paper with no help, doesn't review for tests or give study guides, insanely boring, gives a couple pop quizzes, doesn't put grades on canvas, lies about due dates and when he'll give us our work back
The guy has good intentions but is a terrible professor. Sometimes the topics were interesting, but none of the lectures helped me pass the class. Had to teach myself material every time there was a test. There's a 10 page paper that had no prompt, and when I went for help I left feeling confused. Tests are hard & a lot of questions were irrelevant
Worked my butt off for this class and still did horrible. Went for help, talked to him multiple times, and still was struggling. There are three extremely difficult tests, and a 10 page paper in which there are no written guidelines and barely any help. I would avoid taking him, he's nice and loves what he teaches but isn't good at it.
Do yourself a favor, and steer clear of this professor. He loves teaching the subject, but he's not good at it. The lectured never have anything to do with what's on the test, and he gives no guidance for the ten page paper. Oh, he also called our entire class stupid for not knowing APA format, despite the fact that most of us hadn't used it prior.
Professor Haines obviously loves his craft and is knowledgeable about it, but passion doesn't get you much when you have no idea how to teach it. His tests have nothing to do with the lectures, his lectures barely state facts besides "This term is important to the study of communications" (yeah, Harry, but what does it mean?). Avoid him at all cost
For such an interesting course, Harry Haines made this class absolutely dreadful for me, as well as my classmates. He was extremely lecture heavy, not very open to discussion, and just loved to hear himself talk. Furthermore, as ironic as it is, the more he spoke, the less I understood! I seriously have no idea what this man was trying to teach. :(
I thought I would hate this class at first due to Hanes' bizarre hatred for laptop note taking. But the class is just so bizarre. When writing notes, literally look out for any definitions Haines talks about or repeats. I have barely read the required textbook and I am still doing excelling in the class.
I thought I would hate this class because of his rating, but hes actually not a bad guy. Hes super nice, makes occasional jokes, attendance isnt required, etc. He only grades 3 tests & one ten page paper so study!! Hes super knowledgeable, but doesnt teach the subject very well. Rely on the textbook for tests!
He's unclear about what he wants and has his syllabus is just pages of nonsense half of which doesn't even come up in the semester. I wouldn't take him again. I guess one good thing is he does have office hours but even those are confusing.
Don't listen to these reviews. Professor Haines became one of my favorite professors ever. He knows so so much about what he teaches and is very passionate. Pay attention and listen to him. He doesn't hand out A's, but its not hard to get one if you show up and study. I can't stress enough how great he is. TAKE HIM.
If you dont show up you wont do well on the tests. He drifts from material a lot. We were supposed to have pop quizzes but he stopped after one probably because everyone did poorly. Nice guy, hard class.
So Haines talks a lot and in detail so definitely take notes on EVERYTHING he says, it'll show up on the tests. There's also one final paper at the end, 10 pages. But overall he's pretty funny and encourages you to go to the city for extra credit.
Try not to take him but it is a requirement. Got an A on the paper but the exams are really difficult. Most people get C's in the class. Not great but there's really no other choice
Loves to hear himself talk, doesnt know how to teach the subject and is not understanding. Do not take this class if you have the option not to.
I had him for CMDA 210 and the experience was average. He talked an awful lot about things that had nothing to do with what was on the exam so make sure you know every detail of his lecture as those are usually the test questions. You have to figure out how to write the paper in APA format on your own as he won't help you. He's a nice guy though.
Teacher is not strict on attendance, but if you don't show up you are going to fail the exams and quizzes. Your semester will be filled with 1-3 homework grades and the rest will depend on quizzes your 3 exams and a 10 page paper. The workload was way too heavy for a pre requisite and the teacher was honestly really creepy. DO NOT TAKE IF OPTIONAL!
Harry is a nice, interesting guy with some off days. I loved the material of his class a lot, even though it was very long; he played movies, discussed politics, etc. His tests tended to follow the format and having the readings is essential! They're open notes! The last group project is the final, and it's easy if you pick a topic you know.
Clearly, the people who gave this class a bad review were not willing to put in the work to succeed. If you study, the tests really aren't that hard, and he doesn't grade the 10 page paper harshly at all if you do what he's looking for. Haines certainly wasn't the most personable professor, but he didn't make the class unbearable by any means.
Yes, you HAVE to study for the tests. Yes, you HAVE to take a lot of notes. With that being said, if you put in the work you will get a good grade. I wrote the 10-page paper two days before it was due and got a 100 on it. He gave an outline for it so as long as you follow it, you will get a good grade. He also gives a study guide for each test.
Probably the most stale and dry-humored man I've ever seen. He tries to be funny, but all his jokes fall so flat in a class full of tired and uninterested college students. The class is BORING and tough to wake up for. He has pop quizzes, tests, and a 10 page paper at the end. Not impossible, but you have to try. Don't take him.
When I read the reviews here before I took him, I was terrified. But he was so easy!! as long as you studied for the 3 tests you have and do your paper, you'll pass. He makes lectures very interesting even though he is very monotone. I had a really good time in his class and would love to take him again!
Super into his work and really cares about what everyone in the class has to say. tries to make class enjoyable and wants everyone to get involved. He is super nice and really just cares about our individual thoughts on the subject as well as explaining ideas we never though about. Very discussion based, he loves to learn from his students.
Like many of the reviews say, Haines just likes to hear himself talk. The course is essentially him talking about his favorite cop shows and telling us to refer to the vague syllabus for our due dates of the 3-4 graded assignments he gives. He barely uses technology/is super old school so if you're looking to learn something, FIND ANYONE ELSE.
The lectures are pretty long, but Professor Haines does know how to make them interesting. He also cares about what students have to say, which make the lectures even more interesting. Don't forget to read, study, and take notes!
Haines is my favorite professor this semester. You can tell he really cares about his students. He makes time after class to help if you need and provides you with everything you need to succeed. His class is lecture heavy but tries to make them interesting and funny. Two tests, two essays and a final. The essays are long but he helps you through
Professor Haines is such a nice guy and really cares about what his students have to say! The lectures are very heavy and are discussion based so be sure to read everything and participate for points! Rarely got homework except for readings, we had one big project, a midterm, and a final paper.
harry haines oh where to begin. Great guy, great humor and is very smart. Not the biggest fan of his teaching but sometimes the class is funny. Hope he feels better after the news of him being out for the semester but I probably wouldn't take this class again just because of his teaching methods and how boring it is.
Prof. Haines is great! You can tell he has a lot of knowledge about Comm and Media and really cares about what he's teaching. If you like professors that use stories and personal experience to teach you too, you'll like the class. There's about 3 papers a semester, but they're easy As as long as you put effort in. As a bonus, he's also hilarious.
He follows the syllabus , however his lectures are very "philosophical" about TV and the communication industry. He has funny moments, but some parts of the class are very confusing.
Professor Haines is kind of petty. For one of our classes, he got mad at our class and totally screwed us for the final by not uploading any power points for us to study by and making our final in person, on paper, and closed note when not a single one of our tests before that were that format, just because he got mad at our class for something.
Professor Haines is very unprofessional. We had a class of nearly 100 students, he got very angry with our class and removed all of the PowerPoint slides for us to study. He made our final in person when it was supposed to be online the whole time when the whole semester all of our tests were open notes. He also does not stay on topic when teaching
Professor Haines is not professional, he holds a grudge over our class for an issue that we, the students, corrected. You will not learn anything in the class either, half of us had to learn the material on our own. This class seemed interesting in the beginning, but i was mistaken almost instantly. he changed the course of the class to spite us.
He was Terrible. He was a great teacher but then became very petty at our class for something so small. He did not help us review for the exams and are probably going to make his future exams in person when they were online before. His class is very boring.
Be wary of bad reviews. Had 3 exams for the sem. The first 2 online, open note, just submit letter(multiple choice). I'll admit can be petty at times but his frustration didnt come from nothing. Stopped uploading pwrpt& made third exam in person/no notes bc most class submitted same things & signed each other in. Hes making us actually work for it
I have never had a professor that was this bad at their job. For starters, I was already bothered by him at first with his CONSTANT inappropriate innuendos. It gets to a point where enough is enough. That's not what we were there to learn about. He held a grudge over us and didn't even fully review for the final.
Made every test take home until the final, which was no notes, no cheat sheet, nothing. The study guide also had barely any correlation to the final exam. Also barely gave homework, which sounds good, but when it comes to the final if you dont do well it damages your grade.
I'm convinced most of the recent bad reviews came from the same group of students who sat behind me and had conversations the entire semester instead of paying attention to the lectures. Somehow, they blame him for taking disciplinary action. Haines is a brilliant and insightful professor. Only three exams and no papers for the whole class.
The innuendos, while cringeworthy, were actually very pertinent to course material. Be wary of other reviews that imply they were off topic. Sexual topics and Freudian theories of sexuality were omnipresent. It's one thing if this makes you uncomfortable, but it's not "off topic." Pick a different major if it's too much for you.
Easiness of the class was dampered by a group of students who talked the whole semester and forced him to take disciplinary action. Pretty sure they have ran multiple smear campaigns on this very RMP page. Haines is a good professor and a great guy deep down. He demands little of you outside of the exams and if you actually PAY ATTENTION, easy A.
Circumstances for the final were changed due to a group of students evading attendance by signing each other in. While it was inconvenient I dont think it was unnecessary. Funny guy with insightful lectures. Only three assignments all semester. Not the easiest class but if you actually shut up, show up, and PAY ATTENTION you will pass no problem.
I get (to an extent) sexual theories/topics are part of the class but he always found a way to make it weird. Extremely unprofessional as well, letting the actions of ~3-4 students negatively affect a class of 100 is inexcusable. Witnessed a classmate head to the front of the room in the middle of class and call him out on his BS. Respect.
If you pay attention you will be fine. I would recommend sitting toward the front because he is not very loud, but if you show up and do the readings you will pass. Really brings you up to date with politics, culture, media, etc. Exams are multiple choice. There is two film reviews (5-6 pages). You sign your name for attendance. Cool and funny guy.
Prof. Haines is a communications professor who doesn't know how to communicate with his students. It's a big lecture hall, and yet he refuses to use a microphone so people can hear him. He is very late with grades, and gives almost no feedback. His attempts at humor almost always come off as condescending. Skip this guy.
What a remarkable class! Sure, the exams can be a bit daunting, but as long as you PAY ATTENTION to the lectures and the notes, you should be good as gold! And the lectures themselves: how fun! I was fully absorbed during nearly every class. He truly puts in the effort for his lectures. Professor Haines is also very kind during office hours.
Don't do it. The class: two 5-page film reviews, mid-term, and final. Got 100% on review 1 (1hr late), 86% on mid-term, and 92% on the final. Professor refuses to use a mic in a big lecture hall, making his dull presentations worse. Never answers emails. Gave me a 0% for my 2nd review submitted 4hrs late. Had to text him to get him to grade it.
To emphasize, Do not skip any classes. His exams are based on his lectures and readings so make sure to take detailed notes. As long as you pay attention in class and study, you will pass, promise. He's a bit quiet so I recommend sitting in the front. He makes a lot of innuendos, But outside of class, he's not a bad person. Just don't fool around.
Prof Haines was very straight forward in what we needed to know. I wasn't surprised by 95% of the questions on midterm/final (though he put a few random history questions, which was weird.). He has you do 2 film reviews, that are straightforward and you can easily get feedback on. I think he's funny too, but humor is subjective.
Professor Haines was a professor I wouldn't recommend unless you have no other option. He speaks very quietly so if you do choose to take him, try to sit in the front. His midterms and finals were very confusing due to overcomplicated questions and sometimes he would make lectures very uncomfortable for the class.
fall 22 - took maybe 3 exams and did two film reviews. wasn't a super hard class but if u don't do well in one of those its hard to get the grade back up. take notes on whats on the board but u dont really have to listen to what he's saying. most of the time its crazy or irrelevant. strange dude, def an interesting experience.
You really need to attend every class with him because he doesn't really post his notes. Loves talking, never really listened tho. Very quiet so it's easy to get bored. He was a nice guy, but I didn't like his teaching style. VERY few tests and no homework so it's hard to bring your grade up if you fail a test. Just show up, take notes, and try.
While Professor Haines is a very kind person. His class was awful. He focused wayyyy too much on the idea of phalluses to the point I was physically uncomfortable in class. As well as only having 4 assignments for the entire semester (3 exams and 1 10 page paper) I did not learn a single thing in this course.
The assignments itself are not hard but really put effort into it if you wanna pass. His lectures are boring and most of what he saids are weird and has nothing to do with the class.
Professor Haines is a decent guy, but a terrible professor. Every lecture he mentions Taylor Swift, intercourse, Vietnam, or New York City at least once (often multiple of these, multiple times). The assignments (2 essays, 2 exams, 1 group project) are not very difficult, but are insanely unclear! Does not give feedback, just grades.
If you have a choice to skip this course and not take it I would honestly advise it. This course is lecture heavy and very few things are actually given to grade, which sounds good on the surface but is bad when it comes to actually trying to pass. Hes a late grader so if you dont see your assignment graded yet I would reccomend emailing him.
Harry class gets really boring cuz all he does is yap about and goes on about things off topic witch sucks cuz he just waste all your time. Gives time consuming assignments witch are unclear, have no direct instructions, and mentions once and never revisits (WARNING: Uses AI Detectors via Turnitin)
The only reason why I would recommenced taking this professor again is because he doesn't take attendance and you can miss class a lot. He gives only 4 or 5 assignments the whole semester but is very unclear about what to do during those assignments and gets an attitude when you ask him a question. His class also is very lecture heavy
Professor Haines was a nice guy but very dull, and his assigned work was difficult. We had 2 major papers that were 6-10 pages long. Besides that, we had another project and the midterm and final, so there is not much to grade, which can really impact things. His midterm was hard, but my final for his class was canceled, so I can't attest to that.
his class is a snore fest. i did not look at the textbook at all. you can get a good grade just studying the slides he presents. just do the work and put in the effort to do his assignments and you'll be fine.
Worst professor I've had so far in college. There are only a few assignments to be graded so one bad score can break your grade. Chat GPT Assignment has 0 instructions on what to actually do so its better to ask the TA, who does most of the work anyway. He grades participation but never took time to know anyone's name. Sex examples. Don't take him.
The only good thing I can say about this course is attendance isn't mandatory. My class had 200 people, so he couldn't keep track of who was there and who wasn't. He would start his lecture and then venture off to some other topic halfway through. I didn't learn anything, and the major assignments didn't come with instructions. Do not recommend.
Dr. Haines is a decent guy. Awful professor. He'll put a random fact he glossed over in September as a question on the final. Class didn't introduce us to communication and media at all, how do you teach this class in 2023 and not even mention prevalence of social media? He started in the 1300s and didn't even make it to post y2k modern television!
Super weird guy. Showed us this film about a guy having religious visions that a former president would save America (???) and got mad when we all found it absurd and hilarious. He angrily threw us out of his classroom, vowing that he'd never show another in-class video. Just so bizarre. Based on what I witnessed his TAs carry his classes entirely.
Even though Dr. Haines is a super sweet man, I probably would not take him again because the classes were long and extremely lecture-heavy. In other class periods, we were watching outdated screenings that didn't come with warnings and offended some of the individuals in my class. Just beware that you will zone out and be bored most of the time.
Haines is interesting when he's on topic but rarely is. He's all over the place and often talks about sex and other similar topics when it really isn't necessary.
Harry Haines is quite possibly the horniest professor to ever walk the earth. There have been like 2 lectures where he hadn't talked about sex in someway and/or in great detail. He is very vocal about politics and hates Trump. The text book was never opened despite him saying its required. However he is quite a legend so I must give him his flowers
Three quarters of what was on the midterm was minute things that were worded peculiarly. Interesting guy, difficult professor.
This class was terrible. The professor was disorganized and inappropriate. Made uncomfortable sex comments, and often sexualized women. Very unprofessional, and the content was irrelevant. He posted an article on porn and spoke about orgasms one class. It was disturbing, especially for freshmen, and the university should reconsider his position.
Learned absolutely nothing, he taught us more abt his sexual fantasies than communications a waste of both my time and money. His exams are extremely hard, you can study every piece of information and none of it will be on the exam. i'm throwing a party on the final day of his class bc I no longer have to see or deal with him. DO NOT RECOMMEND
This professor was the worst professor I have ever had. He only seems to use sexual examples making it uncomfortable for some students in class. The Midterm questions are worded to confuse you. He has not canceled a single class all semester.
love this guy. taught me to think about the sex of it all
Although he is very kind, I did not enjoy his class one bit. I bought the textbook that we never used, attended his strange lectures that failed to help me on the exams. I received an 88 on the midterm, and 80 on the final all due to luck and my own studying. I would recommend you take a different professor, for I learned nothing.
Haines' class can be a snooze, but the workload is manageable if you put in the effort. Definitely use unstuck study and the textbook to help with the unclear assignments. Worth it for an easy credit.
This class was pretty fun, Professor H understood that I was struggling and he would help me when I need it.
Weird guy, talks about the Vietnam war & s3x everyday. Gives brain numbing long lectures that are hard to follow along because he rambles & gets side tracked. Your grade depends on two 6 page essays, the midterm, & final. The funniest thing from the class was when he had a slide about "Luigi Mangione's hotness" with a shirtless picture.
Didn't really understand what was going on at any point, but for the 6 page papers, if you submit them closer to the due date, it's an automatic 100% because he ain't tryna read allat (provided it's a huge lecture hall).
The class was made up exclusively of watching movies and reading the articles and books. They were rarely discussed in class. The final grade was based on the semester long project that we were expected to complete and update him along the way. Overall super easy.
This man is the goat. As long as you actually show up to the lectures, you'll be fine on the tests. There's only a couple of them in the semester.
He was never really organized with his lectures. Often talked about war and sex, which did not connect to the textbook. He did genuinely care for his students and would take feedback on his work. The tests and papers weren't too bad. Personally wouldn't take it again or recommend but not the worst.
