I love you, I sleep through exam, get make-up!!!
Very inspiring. Econ 111 made no sense with another prof, 211 makes 111 crystal
He is really good. Makes everything clear
Very nice man, very understanding!

very smart guy...nice stories, intresting
If you don't enjoy Economics after Chartrand's class: you never will.
Hilarious
read the text and memorize the study guide and web test answers.
Try teaching the material that we need to know, not stories of your past
Study web tests and midterms to prepare for the final.
Intersting and provided the material you needed to know even if he didn't exactly teach it.
I took this class as an elective and was glad I did. He made economics fun and made me realize how easy it is. I recommend him!
Amazing prof. He is economics. Plus the easiness of his class helps as well. Very cool guy.
Harry owns, he is the best teacher i have ever had, he makes the class very interesting...take economics from this man, it'll change the way u think about your life
Such an easy class. He would probably be helpful if I went to the class. Super easy and a really enjoyable prof when i was there.
Had him for econo111 -he was one of the nicest prof I've ever met
very, very tough...! The 1st midterm class avg. 27%!!!!!!???
TERRIBLE!Lectures on NOTHING that is actually on the tests.Talks about himself all the time.Memorize old midterms-usually doesn't change them.Complicates everything! ya, nice guy...but who cares if u're failing?!

easy, and helpful, he gives you the questions and answers for the final, just memorize and resight.
Total extreme libertarian capitalist with a strong personal agenda. Says sweatshops are good. Says people are too dumb to run the system on their own. Learn most everything on your own.
Very easy and he makes things interesting!!
He is very nice gentleman. His class is easy, only if you can picture his powerponit.
i will never take his class again... talks about history all the time...come on, this is ECON...you dont need to attend his class, read by youself will be better....
Don't go to class...very useless, nothing said in class is on exams. Get a copy of the last years midterms and final and memorize them...believe me they don't change. Read the text also if you actually want to learn the material.
Great guy ... love his courses , basically his 111 class got me intrested in economics .. wld love to take all his classes .. though 214 was harddddddddd , but all is well tht ends well .. a wonderful full on information class
awesome prof... he is the only reason i have taken any economics classes
Great notes online, does a very good job of explaining the content and making it stick in your head without going over much. Made the rest of my Econ classes that much easier cause I had an awsome base of knowledge to start with.
You should just read the book and do your webtest and you'll do fine. His lectures are may not have much to do with the exam material but they are hilarious.
WHats the %$#* world is this guy living in? The things he says about people in the developing world iam sure would change if went through 1/20 of what they do daily.
Development studies students, beware! His spiels and beliefs and rants will turn your insides out. Definitely pushed my buttons the wrong way.
his classes don't have much to do with the exams. Read the text, it helps more than class. nice guy though.
Do not take any of his classes unless you must. The mark you get in the class will not reflect how much you've learned because his tests are so awkward. Adjusts exam marks to ensure he achieves his "target" average.

Very interesting, entertaining, and engaging lectures. Likes class discussions. Pretty easy exams. Very funny guy to listen to and talk to. Great prof.
dont take econ 214 with chartrand. he is an ass in this class. he is proud to have a class average well below 50%. he wont expain why he marks u with suck a low mark, and tells u that its just life even tho ur answers may be correct. save urself a headache and take econ 214 with a different prof
He couldn't each the class, would not help the students, very low class average and I would not recomend any one take his class as well very oppionated with little facts backing him up. He knows just enough to #%$@#% up the students in his class, but not enough to be a real economist.

Don't phone this guy, he's a total jerk as he will not answer any questions. Seems as if he wants to be a jerk, just to be a jerk. Class is easy, so easy in fact you only need to show up for exams!
STAY AWAY! This is the worst prof ever. He thinks that he is doing the world a favour with his deductive marking and deductive logic style for this course. In reality he is just screwing up students averages to get his kicks. Take this course of anyone else unless you like feeling screwed over.
Interesting guys with lots to say...however it doesn't have much to do with the actual course material and its best to stick with the text
Brutal class. Take it from someone else. This class will turn you off Economics completley
Ridiculous, in a good or bad way i have yet to decide. All multiple choice (right out of the text/off the website). Lectures include anything that has nothing to do with economics. So, in short, read the text, write the online quizzes, and show up for the final... attend a few humourous classes if you have time.

I sincerely hope you never need to deal with this prof for anything beyond sitting in his course for lectures. He is uncooperative, unhelpful, and extremely frustrating. His is slow to return any form of correspondence and cannot decipher a simple question, when posed.
Must be able to memorize glossary terms and feed them back to him. Thats it, no real learning.
don't need to go to his class. just make sure u take the exams

Taking economics from chartrand is pointless, you will never learn anything from his lectures as going to class was a waste of time!!! Seriously, reading the text is the only guide you need!!!
Dont take his class. Boring and monotone. He doesn't teach us anything just wants us to memorize. Stubborn and an **** .. beware
he's outgoing and kind of interesting
The only time he was helpful was when he said "passing is all about graphic recognition". Stay at home, read the text and memorize the graphs. No understanding required.
Cannot understand
He never talks about anything that is on the tests. The only way you are going to pass his class is if you memorize the whole textbook. Don't take his class if you don't have to, even though he isn't the worst economics prof @ the UofS
Talks about nothing related to the tests in class, but the tests are easy and simmilar to previos years
This is one of the easiest economics classes that i have taken. Get the old midterms and finals and you will do awesome in the class..no need to ever go!
Smart man...interesting lectures, however brutal method of testing
Harry is an interesting prof to listen to, if only he would ever talk about the course material. Read the text, do the webtests and GET LAST YEARS MIDTERMS AND FINALS! they are almost exactly the same.
EASIEST CLASS EVER...the midterms were WORD FOR WORD of the previous year. The only thing different was the date on the top. He never even changed the order. Final was the exact same questions as the previous year, but he changed the order...I know several people who got 100% on 2 of 3 midterms and the final!
He is really not as bad as some of these reviewers have indicated. I felt that he honestly wanted students to succeed in his class and he made every effort to make things clear. There were opportunities to improve marks through web-testing and provided a tutorial for those in need. He might like to hear his own voice, but overall a really nice man
Very interesting, but there is no point in going to class because all the exam questions are from the text, and he does not teach anything from the text, he just rambles about the government.
Dont take his class EVER. Waste of time and money. Doesn't teach you anything ... just want you to memorized perfectly word by word for mid and final. If you want to learn something DONT TAKE HIS CLASS
all over the place focusing more on the same thing over and over ratehr then expamding on all testable material
I attended his lectures for the first few weeks, but after the first midterm realized that his lectures are totally irrelevant to the exam material. Read the textbook and don't bother going to the lectures unless you want some entertainment. He is annoyingly dramatic, intimidating and unapproachable. Easy exams, but useless lectures.
Worst class ever, but also the easiest. Never went to class and got 90+ in the class. Just hope to god you are the second of his classes to write the final and it will be the exact same as the class who wrote before you. And if you write first the final from the year before is pretty similar.
Don't need to go to class, do online quizzes and print and study from them. Then get people's old exams. You have issues if you don't get 80+ with these instructions.
This is the greatest class becuase not going makes you smarter! He confused me so much and I did better when I stayed home, caught up on sleep and read the text. Read the text, do the webtests, go to the midterms. Thats all you need to do!
ok so going to lectures is stupid...there is no reason to go...the tests are super easy and each midterm is worth the same as the webtests combined...all you have to do is read the textbook and do online tests and you will do fine!
Don't go to class unless you are really interested in economics. He has good stories about the history and and how economics applies to the world, but it has nothing to do with the exams. Study from the webtests and old exams and you should get A's no problem. Smart guy, but wants to teach you more then you need to know for the exam.
He is a crazy man, but the class was easy enough to learn out of the book. He goes off topic so often it is so hard to keep track of what he is actually talking about.
He's very enthusiastic, at the same time extremely boring...his class is a good time for nap time because most of the stuff he talks about is irrelevant...read your textbook and do your webtests and you'll be good to go
horribly boring and painful to listen to..likes to listen to himself talk way to much. Read your textbook makes way more sense then the notes he creates.
This class is brutally boring. The prof rambles on and on, don't go to class. He talked about the same topic all term. The midterms were the same from previous years, but he's changed his ways. Still get your hands on an old one, study the webtests, read the text, and you should succeed.
Read the Text Books, Do your webtests and you should be fine. I wish he hadn't changed his methods of making tests. He used to use the same old exams every year and then his class average one year was through the roof so he had to change them around. The final was brutal.
I give him props for trying to make microeconomics interesting, but the lectures were still brutal. Tests are easy, know the text and do the webtests. All of the test questions are taken from the same test bank used for the webtests, which makes it easy to study. It's an easy high mark if you're willing to memorize and learn things on your own.
Terrible and boring dont go to classes just read the text. Brutal
He is accomplished and honest.
He is extremely knowledgeable and does a good job of explaining the material. The class is made as interesting as can be hoped for in an entry level economics class.
Well, all I can say to future students who take this class is to simply NOT go. The only time you should attend class is when there is a midterm. Reading the text book is mandatory to do well on exams and doing the web tests is a good idea because half the questions were straight from the web tests! I attended 3 times because we had three midterms.
Not necessary to attend class, but if you do, prof. Chartrand is very interesting to listen to and is very informed in the area of economics.
This guy is great. The test are from the textbook not lectures. Attend class if you have free time and want to hear Harry rant about whatever is on his mind. He is world of information although most of what he talks about is beyond the scope of his course.
You really, really don't have to go to class (he even told us the first day not to come if we didn't want to). But if you are having trouble understanding any of the concepts he does a good job of explaining them. He seems to want everyone to do well. It's a good class for an easy mark!
I had him for both 111, and 114. I stopped attending 111 and only went to write the test for 114. Read you text you will do fine. Both classes are just online assignments, 3 midterms and final all question from text company. He hardly ever taught anything that we would be tested on. It was usless to attend class.
The key to succeeding in this class is to NOT ATTEND. Dead serious. Went a total of 3 times the entire year, only to write the midterms and came out with a high 80. Probably spent a total of less than 2 hours in his class the entire term. If you do bad in this class, you just can't be very bright because his exams are word for word from the text!!!
had him for both 111, and 114. I stopped attending 111 and only went to write the test for 114. Read you text you will do fine. Both classes are just online assignments, 3 midterms and final all question from text company. Not necessary to attend class, but if you do, prof. Chartrand is very interesting and is informed in the area of economics
If you don't have any interest in Economics and are only taking the class for a requirement, then find another prof. If you have ANY interest in the subject Harry is awesome. Funny and sarcastic... a bit caustic at times but a lot of fun to talk to.
It is my honest feeling that his primary goal throughout the course was to prove to himself and others that he's intelligent. Although not the most informed man, he is very pompous, self-involved and difficult to deal with. I found him very inflexible and his methods of testing to be ridiculous. I did bother to attend class but really do regret it.
Big joke of a class. Don't have to go but it's still super easy. He is a bright guy but he's a **** too.
Pretty interesting prof, hes one of a kind for sure. I dont think he cares to much about the class (he said we didnt need to come if we dont want to), and will help you only if you ask specifically for it. An easy three credits because only about 3 hours of class are mandatory all year. He did give pretty solid notes, and his humor was pretty great
H.H.C is a class act, you definately do not need to attend class but there very entertaining. If your interested in the area of study go to class youll learn a thing or two if you arent just stay home and read your book. Either way TAKE HIS CLASS over any other Econ prof at the U of S
he had a talent to make an uninteresting subject relevent and entertaining to learn, despite few people appreciating his teaching techniques
Pretty interesting prof. No need to ever go to class. I do suggest going if you need clarifying on something. He explains things in more detail than the text in easier terms like ice cream sundaes. As long as you read the textbook a few times and do webtests you will do really well.
Doesn't care at all
easy class to skip lectures if you want :) just know dates of midterms and webtests.
He can offer interesting analogies should you need clarification, but let me make this one thing clear: ASK IN CLASS. Completely useless, and nearly against helping students outside of class time.
i never showed up to his class and passed. so overall very easy!
EASY CLASS~NO NEED TO GO TO CLASS, BUT HAVE TO READ BOOK BY YOURSELF.
Didn't go to class at all. Just read the textbook and you will be fine. Midterms and final are fair and all questions come straight from the book.
Not impressed by this professor. He didn't seem too interested in being in class any more than we did, so, we stopped going. The textbook is very helpful and well laid out.
Actually the worst professor I've ever had. Very low class averages (around 50%). Most of his lectures do not relate to the material (history lessons and ridiculous stories). He says midterms are based on his notes when they are actually based on the textbook, which he doesn't use. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. Very pompous and talks down to students.
Awesome! Hilarious!
He was pretty rude and disrespectful. He's also pretty confusing during class but his midterms are basic.
Put in a half-decent effort and you'll do well. Lectures are optional, tests are pretty much straight out of the text, and webtests are easy. If you do show up to class, he's a bit caustic but hilarious and passionate about economics.
Confusing and all over the place, exams are only based off lecture notes and his notes are very unstructured and difficult to follow. His use of sentence structure is non conventional in his notes and its just not rational to gain an understanding of economics, because of this, lots of people fail his exams and class averages are very low.
a nice old prof
Harry has his own website where he posts all of his notes. The site is very helpful if you are confused about something he is explaining. He also stays after class to help you if you need it.
His notes and lectures are terrible. Spends most of his time talking about non-testable history lessons. Listening to his lectures is like listening to the teacher on Charlie Brown. Midterms aren't too bad, although some questions were on stuff never discussed. The final had probably 40+- questions from the midterms.
Lectures are irrelevant to exams. Read read read because all the exam material is from the textbook. Final had an abundance of questions straight from the midterms.
I felt like we did NOT need to do the online tests. Those were not at all the type got on the midterms and most people googled the answers. Harry goes over the easy and basic stuff (over and over) in class. However, his midterms and finals have somewhat different questions. Would highly recommend looking at his previous midterms and finals.
good guy
Lectures are boring and full of information we don't need. Teaches straight from his website and there is no real syllabus. We have no clue when midterms are or how to take notes in his classes. Every class (ECON 111 and ECON 114) is taught the exact same way and notes are basically the same for both.
Harry is a funny guy, but his lectures are long and boring. He talks a lot about things that are not relevant/not on exams. Attending lectures is not mandatory as all his notes are online - but beware, they are very confusing and hard to follow. He does his best to make a boring subject interesting.
If you have the chance to take this class with a different prof, do it. Not good at letting you know what you need to study and just goes on about historical things, that weren't on tests. Didn't use graphs often but tested on you knowing them. Pretty much taught myself from the textbook, so take the class with a prof who will actually teach you.
Harry is a funny guy! However his lectures are useless. Only talks about history and non testable information. Also, his notes are useless, as they are also about history. Your best bet is to just read the textbook. If possible, try to get a different prof!
Consistently puts down other colleges. Lectures and his notes are strongly history based, but the midterms are the exact opposite. Made to feel like an idiot when asking for clarification on a few ideas after class. Class averages are hovering between 45%-55%, maybe it's time he evaluates his teaching method instead of thinking the class is stupid.
Lots of online tests, with answers that were accessible online, so that was a massive grade booster! The lay out of his class is easy and attendance isn't mandatory with his notes being online. Going to class is enjoyable as he keeps the lectures interesting! Tip: Get the practise tests from his class at the drop in centre. Word for word answers!!
terrible class, lectures are useless. get out asap if you get this guy
he's the best prof for econ 111.
Not an economics person but really enjoyed the class. His notes are heavily history based and somewhat irrelevant when taken out of context but if you actually go to class he relates them to the textbook material. Not a heavy course load and lots of repetition of content during class.
Lectures are impossible to take notes from. He teaches strictly from his website and loves to get off topic and ramble on about nothing that you will be tested on. He is a funny guy but if you have the opportunity to have a different professor that will actually go through course content in lectures.. Do it
His lectures are the worst. Rambles on about off topic and non-testable material. I found it hard to keep up with what he was saying as he jumped around a lot. Most of the test material is based off the textbook, so if you read it you should do fine.
The lectures for this class are a waste of time to attend. Buy the textbook and read the material and pass easily. Harry is passionate about economics but not an engaging prof.
Lectures were very very boring but the tests were very easy. He also let us keep our midterm questions to study for the final which was very helpful. Even if you don't atttend all the lectures but takes notes from his online website it's fairly easy to get a good grade.
Amazing Proff. Very intelligent guy, I have come to admire through the semester. Really knows what he is doing, probably one of my favorites.
His lectures can be pretty dry at times, but he knows what he's talking about and as long as your questions are specific he can provide helpful answers. It's not necessary to actually go to class as you can get all your answers from the textbook and all of the tests are based on the textbook rather than his lectures.
Economics is something that people will either grasp intuitively or not. His lectures are geared towards those who grasp the subject intuitively, just ask if you don't understand something, I've found that he is good at elaborating if you ask him questions. Oh yeah, if you're completely lost, the textbook will be your saviour.
Harry is an intelligent guy when it comes to economics but his lectures are a waste of time. You're better off skipping class and reading the textbook, which is very easy to follow and good at explaining the course. All the tests and exams are based off the textbook, not at all from his lectures. I skipped 3 months of class and still did very well.
I don't comment on the teaching thins. But he is super tough and unkindly. I'll never take his course ever again.
No point in going to his lectures. Read the textbook and do the online tests and you'll do fine. Exams are super easy.
Harry knows what he's doing when it comes to economics, but doesn't really know what he's doing when it comes to teaching students who know nothing about economics. His lectures were really hard to understand. I would 1000% recommend skipping all lectures and just reading the textbook: it's all you need for the exams, trust me.
Definitely recommend if you are taking an entry level econ class. Went to class three times this year and it was for the three midterms he had. Strictly based out of the textbook. Easy 80+ if you read the text and do his online practice quizzes
His lectures are boring and a waste of time. Just read the textbook or watch online videos. Tests are super easy with only 30 questions
For economics, you must do a lot of practice questions! Find some on the internet because the exams are VERY tricky if you do not practice. Going to class is unnecessary, but Harry is very inspirational. He is a kind man and wished me a good summer after the final. Would love to take 114 now.
You don't need the textbook if you don't want to drop the cash, his online materials are more than thorough enough. You may not even need to go to lectures, but I would recommend you do, class is very interesting. I wouldn't recommend him if you have trouble keeping up with fast classes though, he doesn't pull any punches.
Didn't attend a single lecture, studied the textbook literally for 30 minutes before each exam, final grade was 88%. This is the easiest class I've ever taken, literally all you need to know is "supply and demand". Enter each exam equipped with that and you'll get 85%+.
Literally ended with a 90 in the class by only attending three of his lectures. He is a great prof I'm sure, but I've just always been into reading so the book helped a lot more. His class was dry and I found Econ more interesting learning it on my own. However, his midterms are easy, make sure you try hard on those online tests!
Harry rambles and rambles and rambles. He talks about SOME things that are relevant to the textbook, but is mostly just nonsense. You can skip class, read the textbook and pass with a good grade if you apply yourself. Read the textbook and dont listen to what he says because he only asks questions on the textbook.
Able to get a very high mark if you set your expectations appropriately. Harry is an awful lecturer who rambles continuously. He does review sessions the class before each midterm, attend those classes only and focus on a combination of that material and the material from the quizzes. His midterms are made up entirely of a combination of the two.
Never posted anything on Paws, was always on his outdated website. Went to 2 classes all term and just studied from home. Passed the exams without ever attending his lectures. Hes rude and his lectures were awful.
Depending on your sense of humor. you will either hate this guy's lectures or love them. I happened to really enjoy his lectures when I was there. You do not need to attend most of the lectures. He will recap them the lecture before each midterm. Just remember to study the online tests and practice test. Truly Inspirational
Worst prof Ive had so far. Hes rude, unapproachable outside of class and gets annoyed if you ask questions. His emails are curt and he is unwilling to offer any help. Dont show up to his lectures, theyll confuse you even more. Read the textbook at home and you can pass.
Interesting topic taught by a professor that needs to realize he's teaching this to first-year students. The first third of the class felt super rushed trying to fit three small topics in a short amount of time. Tests and Midterms are easy if you know your stuff. Only go to the lectures when he reviews.
I found the website he uses for his class to be quite useful. Attended all lectures and scored above 80 on all the midterms with at most an hour of studying, had a mock midterm class before every midterm and the final as well. Interpreting and understanding graphs is a major component of the tests, most of these graphs are on his website.
Decent professor, knows his stuff. Basically just follows along with the notes he has in his class. Going to class isn't mandatory but I'd do it to avoid having to read the boring text by your lonesome.
Class is really easy his midterms are the same questions as the online tests and the final is pretty much the same! He makes it easy for you to do good
Harry is quite the nutty professor. With terrible jokes & a coke on his desk every morning, he is very enthusiastic about economics. Some of the words he uses aren't even in the dictionary. If you read the textbook & memorize the questions from his online quizzes, you will do fine. This is the one class where attending lectures is not necessary!
Halleluja for not having to attend lectures!
Great professor, but not for everyone. His website is amazing for getting the notes in advance. Watch out for the online tests before each midterm. Used the textbook to work on the online test however is not needed. Easy to talk to after class. Reviews what is on the midterm and final the class before each and is relatively quick to email back
Not a good prof. Avoid at all costs if you actually want to give an effort and show up to class. Lectures are useless, just have to read through the textbook before exam and hope for the best. He's not very caring, doesn't even give you the time of day.
Good prof
His lectures are unintelligible and unrelated to the testable material. Some midterms are so easy you can do super well just by reading the textbook, other times he tries to lower marks.
Do not need to show up for class, prof tests in multiple choice format only
Harry was a great econ prof. His online tests and practice tests really helped you understand the concept of economics. Attendance is not mandatory because he just reads off his website. He is very approachable and happy to help anyone, he likes to joke a lot too. His midterms are fair and final exam is easy/fair. Great econ prof overall!
Solid choice for a professor. That being said, I've never went to class besides the first three classes. You're graded only by online tests, three midterms, and a final. Make sure you schedule enough time to take the online tests - enough that you can do both the practice tests and the real ones. I ended up with an 80 from reading his website/text.
Easily one of the worst professors I've had. Lectures are irrelevant and more confusing than the actual contents of the course. Be ready to teach yourself and for a lot of textbook reading.
I didn't go to one class other than the three midterms and got a 90. If you read the textbook, you will do just fine.
His humor isn't for everyone! Personally I LOVE this professor, it is a bit confusing but he is most certainly approachable and wants to help you. His website is VERY useful and classes are NOT mandatory. you can totally pass this class by reading the textbook & just taking the Online tests and practice tests and studying the questions. EASY A
A nice guy, but really not the best prof. I found his lectures kind of confusing, so I decided to just skip classes and read the textbook and his online notes he posts. I did just fine in the class as the material isn't that hard. I would highly recommend studying the textbook and the online and practise tests he gives you!
you don't need the book since he has his own website but most people don't understand his website. his exams are just multiple choice
Harry's classes were honestly super easy. He only tests on material in his notes (posted online) and the textbook so attendance is far from mandatory. He actually is impressed if around half the class shows up. I have a 98 in his class right now and i put in less effort than i do in any other class. Honestly, don't know why the class avg. is so low
Don't bother going to the lectures, everything he tests is from the textbook. Look over old midterms and read the textbook and you'll do fine.
post notes on his own website so even if you're not in his class you can still look at them. some question from the online test will be on the midterm so before you go into the midterm see where you went wrong, same with the final.
I passed this class solely by reading the textbook and completing the practice and online quizzes. The online quizzes are free, easy marks and you get 5 tries so take them until you get 30/30. You can find old midterms and finals on his website you just have to look for them because he hides them at the end of notes etc. Final was super easy for me
his website seems confusing. he had two classes this term, but he use different finals, one is super easy, just a combination of 5 online tests and 3 midterms. the other one is really hard.
Frustrated to have this prof. There were 2 sections of econ 111 this semester and he gave one of the sections a final exam that was almost identical to the practice exam, but the exam in the other section was much more difficult. Just study the textbook and try to make it through class without falling asleep if going to class is a thing you do.
Don't go to class and just read the textbook and you'll pass easy. Do lots of practice tests because he recycles lots of the questions on midterms and final.
Read the textbook and you won't need class. "Secret" study guide hyperlinked on his website. OT's are near identical to real exams.
He the laziest prof I have ever seen. I have emailed him some times about class information and percentage about online test and midterm, what him replied was only ,"see course outline". Different question, same answer always. His very unfriendly and disrespect to students. I think he is too old to teach econ classes, it's time to retire for him.
Solid prof, especially for first year economics. Pretty strange guy but it makes class interesting. Also had fair midterms and final. final was curved so much that some peoples marks went up 10-15%.
This was my first econ class and I went in expecting it to be horribly boring but Harry makes it fun. He makes great analogies for the students to understand. He does only grade on tests but he puts up practice tests that are almost identical to the real test. Midterms were pretty easy as well.
The lectures are nonsensical and he usually does not stick to one topic for more than a minute, making it extremely hard to keep up to and take notes on. Lectures are honestly not great and I learned everything through the textbook and a bit from his website. USE THE PRACTICE AND ONLINE TESTS! some of the questions show up on the midterms.
Don't even show up to his class since his lectures are not even useful with all of his notes posted online. Lectures always go off topic and will confuse you. Easy class, as long as u study the online tests and the mock test you will get either a pass or a 100.
Amazing Class! I was not sure what I would be getting myself into with University and this class made my time at school more enjoyable. I always looked forward to his classes. He has good stories!
Class is not mandatory due to his notes being posted on his website. He has an easy section (0.2/0.3 on MWF) and a difficult section (0.1 on Tu/Th). If you used the practice exam on his website to study for the exam in the MWF section, the given exam was an exact replica of it. If you are in Tu/Th good luck cause these midterms are always harder.
his final was very surprising in the tu/th lecture. completely unexpected and screwed me
Reads notes during his lecture. There were even errors on the notes that he didn't realize. Half of the questions of tests were never in his notes. Not my fav prof.
I love Harry. He hates Edwards but he knows most of his classes are filled with business kids lol. Easy to get a second hand textbook and everything is multiple choice.
It's hard to describe how bad Harry is as a professor. He is extremely lazy. He refuses to answer emails unless you tell him to answer you directly. His lectures are completely useless since he put all the notes on his website. Unfortunately, the notes are garbage as well. In fact, a bunch of the stuff on the notes isn't even in the textbook. F-!!!
All lecture notes are on his website so a textbook was unnecessary. A couple mistakes here and there. Found his class pretty simple once I understood the concepts. Practice tests, online tests and midterms were super helpful to review for the final. Would definitely take his class again.
He is extremely confusing, as are his notes. doesn't explain anything in-depth.
class was an easy A. He reuses his old final and online test which could be easily be found online. His online notes were hard to understand and his lectures were pretty dry. If you really want to understand or learn about an introductory econ class then I would go with another professor.
His online videos are extremely dry, so I completely skipped out on them except for his recap videos that he posts before every midterm and the final. I never opened my textbook, as instead I took the time to take notes directly from his website. Exams are all multiple choice and often reappear in future exams. Pretty slack class.
I highly recommend taking this class with literally anyone else. He makes no sense and I don't find going to his lectures is any help at all. Just read the textbook and his website and you can avoid the absolute nonsense that he blabbles on about in class.
Horrible.
I was a little nervous about this class after reading previous reviews, but this prof was awesome. Go to his lectures! He posts notes online, but they're not nearly as clear as his lectures are. He does in-class reviews to help prepare for midterms/finals which are a huge help, and his tests are always fair never any surprises.
Lectures were confusing online, then we switched to in-person and they became great! Course notes have lots of diagrams and are pretty thorough. Especially make sure to go to the review lectures before the exams. Easy exams.
Loved this class. Never took an economics class before in my life and now I might major in it. Make sure to read the textbook, it has a lot of info he doesn't cover in the lectures. The online assessments have no surprise questions, but make sure to do the practice quizzes first!! (they may have the same questions as the online assessments)....
This professor is not as good as Indian and Southeast Asian professors .....
Dr. Chartrand really tries to drill in fundamental economic concepts. The lectures can sometimes be boring, but I think his catchphrases are pretty funny. I would suggest not buying the textbook but just read his website and really try to grasp the fundamental concepts. He recycles all of his test questions, so just practice the questions lots
Absolute GEM of a prof. His lectures can get boring especially long Tuesday Thursday lectures, however he does his best to inject humour to keep everyone engaged. Overall, an easy class if you just pay attention in lectures and put in just a little bit of effort.
Dr. Hillman's lectures made the content seem much more difficult and confusing than they actually were. He just reads off his website (which is available on his syllabus), and then rambles on about random examples and his obsession with coke. I skipped all his lectures after the first midterm and read his website, way easier doing that.
Insanely easy course in my opinion. All I did was read from his website, take some short notes, and an 80+ grade is achievable. Never really entertained the lectures as I felt they didn't help much compared to my own reading/notes. Also take advantage of old midterms/finals and you can EASILY succeed in this course.
This was a weird class. The textbook is useless to him. Trust me. I get a textbook every time I can, but I would not with him. He uses his own website for notes and it gets confusing. His lectures are either informative or worthless. Pay attention to the repeated information in his notes and you will be okay.
Harry goes off on many philosophical, historical, political tangents that are influential factors of economics. They may be beyond the scope of an intro course, and the understanding of students who don't place their interest in those areas. His midterms are frequent but very easy and his lectures are knowledgeable. He has academic old man wonder.
To be honest the course itself isn't that hard. Since test and assignment questions are reused just study past questions and read his notes off his website and you will do well. Going to lecture is useless in my mind. His screaming at 8:30am is not pleasant. Don't bother asking him questions he wont know the answer. Getting too old perhaps
This professor is very rigid and not flexible at all. The class is very easy, don't get me wrong however the professor unprofessional with his students. Do not dare have any extenuating under his class as he will treat you like it is your fault for not knowing in the beginning of the semester.
Absolutely worst final exam. He got 3 midterms and a final. For the first midterm he gives you a mock midterm and it basically same. 2nd and 3rd midterms are so easy just study only practise quizzes. But the final is absolutely nightmare. You will see questions that you never seen before. Not a single question was related to midterms difficulty.
His classes were interesting. I don't know why people hate him. It is mostly theoretical so one has to read a lot too. But then again the midterms make it a little easier because they are very similar to the practice quizzes. Final was very hard though.
By far the worst prof I have ever had. He consistently interrupts the student while they are asking a question to say something like "as I have already said." Harry is arrogant and will often not respond to emails because he would rather talk to the students face to face. You only get graded on 3 midterms, the final, and 6 useless online quizzes.
An old head who overcomplicates very simple concepts. This class isn't hard. But if you try to make sense of his rambling in lecture it will seem that way. Use his site, grind out practice tests and glance at the easily accessible textbook. Enjoy your 80 and hope he retires before he clocks out for another week due to poor health.
Overly complicates simple things. Not a hard course if you can understand his ramblings and notes. Still a very poor teacher
Over complicated things and often was annoyed at students for asking questions. Rude and impatient. The textbook is much more simple then he leads on
Harry is stuck in the 60s, where he says he'll answer your emails but he never does. His grading is super confusing and his lectures make no sense and are drawn out and boring. He's constantly sick and misses classes all the time. So far we're in November and he's missed 4 weeks of classes due to sickness. Harry needs to retire.
Harry could work on his conveyance of lecture material, the website (although easily accessible) is very dry and confusing to learn from. Tests are not hard, and we are prepared well for them. He may enjoy his job, but for his age and teaching method, it might be a good time to step down. Very good at rambling, it's actually quite impressive.
Terrible prof. No email responses, only graded on midterm and final.
The worst instructor I have ever seen. He is very good at rambling, the teaching method is too obsolete and the lectures make me feel I'm in a philosophy or history course. Those lectures are not resemble to the textbook. It may take you a very long time to understand what is mentioned in his lecture. I survived by learning from the textbook
Graded by a few assignments, 3 midterms, and a final. Prof can Ramble for days. Though full of Knowledge, Harry is not one suitable for teaching. has everything on his website which he'll explain in a way that you'll get a good sleep in class. exams are easy if you get your hands on past exams. not accessible outside of class
He was very interesting. You don't need to show to classes or buy the textbook, cause everything is on his website. Good luck trying to communicate with him after classes, it's very hard to judge him. He's funny at times, but his lectures are just so boring, and again all you need is his website and past exams.. I learned nothing honestly.
Don't buy the textbook, he summarizes everything on his website. Tests are super easy, he puts practice quizzes on Canvas and the tests use lots of the same questions. If you do the practice quizzes until you can get 100% on them you can safely expect >70% on the tests. Lectures were pretty boring and didn't add much that wasn't on the website.
terrible prof, too old, needs to retire immediately
not gonna lie, did not read any course material yet he made us spend money on a text book. i picked the longest answer for almost every exam and still passed. he needs to retire.
Worst Professor for Economics, Do not take it Boring classes just a speaker for his website. Do not answer emails even do not come to class during term
Had him in my first year and now I'm graduating. I cant say he's a great lecturer as I got super confused back then and had forgotten most of his teaching, except his rambling. However just his random talking of all sorts of trivia made him one of the better dry-class prof. Wish I could have an elective with him just for that. I can pay for that.
I had Harry for 111 and in this class he's managed to show that he can be even worse of a prof. The class average for the last 2 midterms were 55% and somehow he still employs the same teaching methods. He claims that you need to study the quizzes for the midterms, but like 4 questions on the midterm are from the Quiz. Avoid if you can.
Nothing to say, He is the best professor for Macro Economics.
HHC is a strange prof, spends most of the lectures rambling about personal and political views. Interrupts people constantly when asking questions, in and out of class. Generally pessimistic and miserable personality. Recycles quizzes and exams often, which I did not know until almost end of term. Use Khan Academy for practice, better than his stuf
Professor Chartrand has a unique teaching style that takes some getting used to. His lectures can be rambling, but engaging with the textbook and using helpful study tools like unstuck ai can make the class manageable. Stay focused and you'll likely do well.
He's an old guy who rambles a lot. But it's interesting, and more importantly, he's direct and truthful. It's just the beauty of having an old tenured prof who doesn't need to act fake. Oh yeah, it's an easy 90 too.
