Not as easy as it seems don't be fooled!!! Just kidding if you study and do the readings you'll do fine. He is pretty laid back
read articles and come to class and youll do fine on the midterm and final.
If you're looking for an interesting class, I suggest looking further.
Light workload!! interesting and funny. read the articles and review the book and you'll do great! Just make sure you read the articles and go to class!!!
really easy, you dont have to show up to class, a few readings, but his exams are impossible (unless you are used to being asked what the professor was wearing on the day of a specific lecture!) -
He is so hard.Don't even take his class. If you have no choise i feel sorry for you.If you have any questions for him he will never answer on your question he will confuse you.His tests are multiple choice questions and they are stupid.
just read the articles and go to class. you'll do fine
I thought his class was great. You have to read articles and tests are mulitple choice. Attendance doesn't matter but sometimes he tests on things he said in class so make sure to read someone else's notes! The tests can also be confusing, but pretty easy.
you nevrrr have to go to class... just read the articles which are one a website he made online and read the book. his tests arent that bad but his lectures are boring and he tells u abo****ely nothinggg in class... i barely went and did good
Easiest A+ of my life. It was not the most educational classroom experience, however. Lectures were a bit repetitive. If you study in exactly the manner Levine suggests then you will have no problems.

Took him for 101 and he was a jerk. not helpful, lectures were boring and material taught was not relevant to anything else in sociology, tests were rediculously long and multiple choice had chices a through f at least- STAY AWAY FROM LEVINE- HES TERRIBLE
Suspense..i didnt know my final grade until it showed up on my transcript. no tests all papers little 1 page papers. but no grades on them he looks for improvement for the grade. a little boring at times but worth the A
easy class, made it interesting, test are from books & notes final was an easy mini paper got an A definitely take for a good time!
He isn't the best teacher I ever had but I mananged to pull a B in the class without trying very hard. Just do the readings and whatever assigments he hands out and you should do well.
honestly ... kinda boring, but if u want an A, u need to go to every class, pay attn & take notes ... if u have ADD dont take, he doesnt let you leave the room
His class was BORING! Everyday there would be a couple of students dead asleep. Sumtimes even me!If u do the readings, u will pass. And it actually might be good to attend the lectures, though he doesn't take attendance cuz he may say or write down stuff that will appear on exams.
OK let me just say that his lectures have nothing to do with the readings u dont ever need to attend his class, just read the articles and ull get an easy A. His a little psyco but i guess u can deal with it.
His lectures r not based on readings. U have to do all the readings since u can't write down anything relevant to the readings from the lectures. Tests were ok, but u have to do the readings to pass.
Very Easy! If you need an elective and want to enjoy yourself a little in the process take this calss with this guy.
This class is the epitomy of boring. If you show up to class you are guaranteed to fall asleep. He talks about nonsense all the time. No attandence, no quizzes, no homeowrk: a midterm and a final and they are not that hard, just long and boring, you'll be fine as long as you do some of the readings.
He is horrible professor. The class is boring. Please don't take him.
I did not know what to expect for my grade since it was only about six one page papers and a presentation. He looks for improvement in writing but he never gives a grade.Make sure you have read the assigned chapters or you'll have to sit against the wall.By the end of the semester we had a party. A-
he was a little confusing at first but once you understood what he was getting at you could understand what he was getting at in all the lectures. he was available for questions after class. no tests, only readings, a midterm and final, which were both very easy...not hard to get an A
The class was interesting. I learned alot about society. He is somewhat boring. The tests are lengthly so you could pass. DO NOT GET UP IN THE MIDDLE OF CLASS. he will embrass you in front of the whole lecture hall.
Horrible class.Dont ever take him.It so boring and his test are dumb. i regret takin this stupid class.I didnt learn that much in it.
Horrible class. Grades are based on your midterm & final, which you wont know until it appears on your transcript. Tests are very specific and you have to like memmorize what each chapter says. One ? was what does chapter 5 start out with. Like seriously... HUGE CLASS
Very easy professor.Lectures never dealth w/ readings, but he was fun. Midterm & final. All u have to do is to be able to memorize. DO NOT GET UP IN THE MIDDLE OF CLASS!!! He'll flip!
he gave us a lot of things tomemorize not to undestand
very very nice prof.I love the fact that he only gives a midterm and a final, no homework or papers JUST A MIDTERM AND A FINAL as he keeps repeating. He is very intelligent. The class was good , you really didnt need to show up just print the articles from the internet and read them. Another great t
He was the wrose teacher I ever had in my whole life. Lecture are sooooooooo boring, mid-term are long and you need to have good memory to remember everything form the book. If you want to keep your GPA high choose another teacher.
heres the scoop - very easy, but very boring. nuff said.
this guy is easy, his 381w class is a joke, just write a paper a week on fish and you'll pass, plus the final is to bring food! lol Bring something he likes to eat and you'll definately get an A, too easy
TAKE HIM! read the material or go to class. Midterm is multiple choice and 1-2 word answers. Final is cumulative. It's Multiple choice and 15 short paragraph answers. Know the reading list and all the words on the page. The tests are all about regurgitation of the class lectures.
Do not take him. There is A LOT of reading and the lectures are boring. He makes a fool of you if you leave early or come late, even a few minutes. His tests are long and hard to memorize all that information. PLUS on the final he actually asked a question about the syllabus and what readings you had on a certain day. UNREAL
id reccomend taking his class. interesting, there is a lot of reading but he goes over it well in his lectures. relatively easy tests. seems to have very liberal view. pro-cannibus legalization! ;)
dont take if u wanna learn..TAKE if u want EASY A..no need 2 even come 2 class...just read ALL the material n its all online. exams r onli based on material n all multiple choicr..take him
i took him for 101 and soc of drugs, very interesting, u need to do the readings. very approachable, fair grader.
took him freshman semester...pretty good actually. he joked around a lot in my class and seemed like a cool guy. you basically just gotta do the readings n ur good.
he was ****ing funny...he reassured us all that the world is completely ****ed up, which i'm sure some people forget about. but all and all, he was a cool guy who made me laugh while learning
EASy class REALLY interesting articles no textbook to buy just print articles good discussions in class- cud get a lil graphic and offensive thou-hes a blunt guy! but has his funny moments-smart guy2! TAKE IT!
he is exactly like a mean santa clause
just imagine a class where your being tortured by an evil Santa Claus and you've pretty much got what his class is like. He thinks he's funny, but he is not and his class is pointless he talks abt crap most of the time. avoid this class!
OMG!!! where do i start? i literally find things to stare at to stay awake. he babbles abt useless crap for abt 45mins and then starts teaching more crap, sometimes i think he doesnt even know wat he's talking abt. he will embarass any1 who makes a wrong move in class!!
EVIL SANTA CLAUS? NOW THAT'S FUNNY! HE IS A BIT SCARY AND LOUD AND THE READINGS ARE A PAIN. MIDTERM AND FINAL WERE TRICKY, EVEN THOUGH MC WAS ON THEM AND SHORT ANSWER. READ, REREAD AND MEMORIZE A LOT OF JUNK
had to memorize lots somewhat-interesting articles, some VERY long; askin him questions wont help; not an enjoyable class; lectures boring + seem stupid but if u actually listen it'll do u good for the midterm; half the questionz on the final were taken from the midterm unchanged; thinks hez funny but hez not; not an enjoyable class
The articles of this class was pretty interesting. If you pay attention to what he says and read all those articles you will be fine!! and THE MOST IMPORTANT READ THE READING LIST a big part of his test is going to be from there. He is a good professor, with a good sense of humor. Take his class!! You will learn a lot of things that you don't know
This guy is good, i read the bad comments, but believe it or not, i never read his articles, not even the book, just pay attention to what he says and writes on the book. The man is boring, but very funny at times, get a Red Bull, sit back & copy notes from the Board. Trust me, you wont regret it. Fair grader
For a prof that doesnt take attd a lot of people show up. Anyone who doesn't like him does so because they they are immature and dont understand the world is not as it seems. Interesting articles. & who cares if you can't leave during class
He is very animated
I was never interested in soc. I hated it because all we read were old newspaper articles But once we started on invitation to sociology everything made more sense The class wasnt boring at all. take this professor; youll look at things differently afterwards and pay more attention/understand the govt and how issues are relevant to you
This guy is really boring. His lectures are straight out of the articles from the homework, verbatim. There's no attendance taken, so you could get away with just reading the work at home and showing up for the midterm/finals. This class is good if you want an easy A, but don't expect to learn much.
I think he was a good professor. His classes were interesting and you learn a lot about whats going on around you. He's an easy grader. For the midterm he gave us 3 bonus points. He does embarrass you but only if you get up in the middle of the class or if your talking during class. If you want to pass you should take this professor.
u will not learn anythin, just read the articles and u will b fine...
I had Professor Levine for Sociology 101, Blues, Jazz, Rock and Roll, and a Tutorial in Heavy Metal Music and subculture.
I love this man...he's awfully random and really funny...the class teaches u alot about how the world works...and there is no text book to but...very fair grader..
please dont' take this prof .. never ever take prof redi for soc 101 .. this prof makes ur life miserable .. he give you tons of paper to memerozie of useless stuff .. not even helpful if you want to see a joker plesae go to circus dont' waste your time on him...
Prof Levine is quite boring. Attendance is not taken, but you need to be there to know questions that will be from lecture on the midterm or final (those are the only things that make up your grade). The readings are sometimes interesting. If you're looking to settle with a B without going to class, this is for you. If not, don't take him.
the class is boring. It's not interesting at all.you have to go to class because he likes to give words that later he will put on the test. It seems like you don't have to go but you have to. He's not so friendly.i would not recomend him for a freshman.
I thought this class was a lot of fun although trying at times. There was a lot of ambiguity when it came to the syllabus and grading but in the end it seemed to work out. He really knows what he is talking about when it comes to the reading material so listen to what he has to say. As far as the rest of the class, that?s open to discussion.
please dont' take this Prof.. he gives you tons of reading of crappy stuff that is not even intersting to read.. jus. dont' take him ... midterm is very hard and final is extremely hard .. dont's help you at all .. VERY HARD PROF .. i'm here to save you guys take someone else but not him ..
great guy, dont walk out of class. will**** on your life if you do. a lot of readings, must go to class to know WHAts gonna be on the final/midterm...id say ima get a a- in this class.cool dude
Readings are very interesting. Learned a lot from reading the articles. He doesn't like it when people walk out in the middle of the class.. talks about nonsense at times.. kind of annoying. other than that, he has a great passion for sociology!
Very entertaining. DO ALL THE READINGS and the class is a breeze. Seriously. Just READ, know the authors, and what the articles/book is about and you will do fine. The readings are interesting anyway so its all good. Very good professor, everything is straight forward. The final and midterm were good also. Funny too.
He gives second chances and lets you argue about your grade. Handsomer up-close! I was very surprised.
A hilarious, top-rate professor in whose lecture hall it was a joy and privilege to sit. Not only an entertaining and powerful lecturer, but profound!
Just do the readings and you'll do fine! Funny professor, good tests, good grader. overall just make sure to do the readings and no the titles and authors and u should do fine. definitely recommend this class
If you do all the readings you'll ace the class. Attendance is not mandatory and I actually recommend not attending. He rambles on and he wastes a lot of time on unimportant things. There are only a few questions about things he actually talks about in class.
zero need to attend this class. he does not take attendance, and lectures will do nothing for you. if you read the assigned readings for the first term, and simply google an outline for the book in the 2nd term you'll get an A. I got an A and didn't attend 1 class 2nd term. but make no mistake read the stuff and know titles and authors!
the guy is insane, but the class is easy. read the articles from the first half but dont bother reading the textbook- just read an outline online. you really dont need to go to class but sometimes hell tell you what to focus on which makes the final easier. if you need an easy A this is your class.
Attendance is not required, his lectures tend to be fruitless and wordy. Tests tend to have many ambiguous answers.
I learned two things from Prof. Levine: Caveat emptor (buyer beware), and we are condemned to freedom. Beware of this relatively easy but extremely boring class, and use your freedom to pick another class for your PLAS/LASAR requirements or another section if you're a SOC major. Makes a few jokes, but overall is not engaging or interesting.
so attendance is not required but its best you do go so you understand whats going on. buttt if you do the readings you'll be fine. I got a c an i got a 84 in the first tets and i dont think i did too well in the final.so if you read, youll do fine. so know the articles and main details. egh this class was ok, i perfer a class with more to grade on
uchhhh this class is horrible. if i could i would go back and take someone else.
This class sucks and so does the professor. You can't be sure of anything-the midterm (there's one, then a final) covers 25 articles (of which I had read 21 and skimmed the other four), yet my midterm grade was mediocre. He's boring, not too smart and thinks he's hysterical. Not worth wasting your time with this class.
If you are looking for a teacher who is interesting, helpful, and an easy B+, look elsewhere. The first part of the semester you will read 25 articles so you don't really have to pay attention during class but the second semester you read a book which is impossible to understand so if you don't pay attention, you're pretty much messed over
Gives you 25 articles to read. Somewhat interesting. A midterm and final. Apparently, his final is like your grade as if your midterm doesn't even matter. During lectures, he repeats things we read on the article and the book. But do attend since he gives out reviews when it's almost exam day. Easy A if you read your materials. Take him!
Read all material before going to class, and listen to him talking about it. Questions are so straightforward, I was surprised at how easy the tests were. You have to read and understand the material. Overall great teacher.
Would not recommend. I had a great interest in Sociology before his course and almost failed. Not worth taking.
Course material from copy shop and a book later in the semester. It will be tempting to not attend class or not listen, especially because he doesn't have participation grade and he doesn't take attendance. BUT DO GO! In-class material is on the midterm and final. Grades are based on midterm and final, (mostly the final). Read all the articles.
If you go to class, pay attention and read, it is very easy because the midterm and final are very straight forward. He won't give you the answer to a question you have if it's right there in the reading because he wants to make students think. The articles and book were interesting even if his lectures were only half the time.
unless you are good at short answer tests and actually are able to memorize articles and books, then don't take this course. he expects you to be able to answer questions on the smallest detail. he only talks, doesnt give any notes at all.
Horrible. Goes on in detail about his personal life throughout lectures, and fails to address the subjects that are covered in extreme detail on his midterm and final. There is no participation within lectures. As a former student, I barely passed his class where as I have gotten A's in more complex sociology classes. Avoid this class.
Attendance isn't mandatory, but you should go because he will ask about stuff from the lectures on the tests. I enjoyed the articles a lot & found them super interesting, but because he doesn't care if you don't pay attention, it's easy to get distracted, so make sure you listen. The reading list is very important & make sure you know it by heart.
The most boring class EVER. You're going to have to do TONS of reading, and the tests are based exactly on that. He gives a review of what will be on the test, and just by studying that you would be prepared. There is no need to attend class, just read at home and go for test days. The test questions consists mostly of short answers.
I barely came to class but still did well on all the tests because I read the material. His lectures are so boring and pointless. If you want a solid understanding of basic sociology this class won't give you that. It's super easy but I didn't learn much. Most of the class is just based on various articles. You have to know the titles and authors.
You don't even have to go to class. Everything is based on the readings and he posts a review sheet online before the tests. He doesn't teach anything and rambles about everything but the course material.
Skip his class, read the review and take the test, easy A. Heck, someone even has the answers to his first test up online. Boring as hell, thinks he's hilarious, has edgy views and dares people to question him. If you don't care about your GE, I guess you can take him.
If you don't like to read then don't take this class. Reading comprehension and memorization are required to excel. I would've had an A but I got lazy and didn't do the last readings so I got a B+ instead. Going to class helps you remember key details from the readings, but they can be boring at times. The last reading were the toughest.
Reading is essential to passing. He makes 2 books at the copy center and you must read them. During the week besides for keeping up with the readings there is no other work. No papers just a fill in/ mc midterm and final. You have to make sure to know titles and authors of the articles. If you read and go to class you'll get an A.
You don't even need to go to class. He's boring and not clear with anything he says. You don't even need to understand the readings because on the tests he asks for the titles and authors and random points from articles. Just read the readings and do the review sheet online, even then most questions aren't on the test.
Must read and memorize many things that have nothing to do with Sociology. A nice enough guy, though.
Horrible socio professor. All he does is talk, no lecture, no powerpoint, no hand outs, nothing. He's suppose to go over our readings but gets distracted by something else and ends up talking about something completely different. He gives 50 short answer exams with a very late review sheet. He expects you to memorize all the readings inside out.
As a person he's a nice guy but everything about his class is BS. His lectures are BS, his discussions are BS and his test (there's only a midterm and final) are BS. He gives you a book full of weird random articles, you need to memorize the title and author and all the dumb details in it. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS, pick a dif SOC 101.
I really did not like this class. All he does is talk and the information has basically nothing to do with sociology. He gets way too off topic most of the time. You have to buy two books for his class that are basically a compilation of articles and information about sociology and are annoying to read. Don't take this class
Very boring class but is an easy A if you read the articles and attend the lectures. Most of the stuff he talks about during the class is pretty useless on the exams except the things he specifically says are on the exams and things he repeats a lot. The exams are pretty much right off of the review sheets so make sure you study them.
Boring class. Rambles. Repeats important stuff a lot. Attendance isn't mandatory, but stuff watched/said in class are in exams. Two books (MEMORIZE EVERY SINGLE TITLE AND EVERYTHING THATS UNDERLINED, EVERYTHING). Midterm and a final. VERY LATE review sheets and VERY LENGTHY, but doable. If you're super good at memorization, this class is for you.
horrible, makes it so hard to pass. just don't do it . its a burden and you learn nothing
Excellent professor and wonderful human being. Thank you!
I had professor Levine for Sociology 101, Blues, Jazz and Rock and Roll which was an advanced class about the history of modern music, and an advanced tutorial at his request, as he indicated to me that he never does tutorials. He was a very inspirational teacher, and wants to bring the best out of his students. I enjoyed his classes immensely.
Professor Levine thinks he is the funniest person. He spends the whole class making himself laugh as you sit there awkwardly. Class become tortuous and you need to memorize an INSANE amount for the midterm and final
Prof. Levine does not present the material he teachers in a fair way. While he is very clear about his political beliefs, he never mentions that they are in fact beliefs and not universal truths. He uses his class as an audience for his "stand up" that he finds very funny but most students don't. If you go to class, and just passively listen...A
You have to memorize so much information for the midterm.
Prof. Levine just talks throughout the semester. Tests and finals are based off readings and lecture for the most part. Easy A if the material is read and understood.
He's a nice guy. Lectures are just fine, a lot of readings, but articles are interesting. Be ready to read and memorize. 3 tests, first one is the hardest. Easy A.
Buy the book and read it, I can assure you it'll be an easy A. I missed a lot of classes and worried I was going to get a bad grade but I ended up with an A-. Attendance isn't mandatory but some of the things he repeats in class, as well as videos shown, are on the exams. Again, read. the. books.
Going to lectures were useless.. literally everything on the midterm is in the book he makes you purchase the readings are long a dreadful.. In class he barely even talks about the topic
gives 3 non cumulative multiple choice tests fairly easy and just reading articles in this class goes more in depth in lectures. review sheet is really helpful and if you do it you'll pass just read the articles. understanding if you talk to him.
If you want an easy A, take this. Levine requires minimal effort, plus literally all he does is go ON AND ON. Most of sociology is common sense anyway, but he has managed to make that BORING. Not really respected, people have got up and left during his class, he doesn't say anything. Doesn't really seem like he cares.
If you ask a question he gives you a vague answer
Don't take his class. He goes on tangents, does not answer questions at all- he will just rant about something and never answer your specific question, I have walked out of his lectures because he did not discuss anything that was relevant. Make sure you read.
if you are looking to major in anything related to sociology. don't take him. we learn about articles that have legit nothing to do with sociology and just read things HE finds interesting, again, that don't relate to sociology.
If you have him in a lecture hall, you will be reading 40+ articles. There are only 2 test and YES these are the only things you will be graded on; the mid-term and the final. If you can't live by that then don't take the class. Prof Levine likes to make jokes and have a bit of fun during his lectures and he is open to talking to you after class.
Proffesor Levine, is an excellent proffesor with clear grading criteria. His lectures are very helpful for understanding the readings. He chooses topics that are both important and intersting. He makes lots of jokes to both help students stay interested and motivated.
You really just don't need to show up to class... He hands out sheets in the last 2-3 classes that are reviews for the test, and those are the test, word for word. Sometimes he'll ask a question or two based on the lectures. If you want to go just for those, then do it. Otherwise, it's fine. He just enjoys hearing himself talk.
I would definitely recommend professor Levine to all my friends as he is very patient and always ready to help students after class. He is very passionate about this subject and takes time to thoroughly explain the topics. If you come to class regularly and pay attention to the lectures, you'll be fine.
The class was quite helpful for learning current issues in society as we read many articles for homework and discuss them in lecture. Make sure you read in order to do well in the class (buy the reader at the beginning of the class!), come to lecture, and complete the review sheets so that you know what's going to be on the midterm and final.
Prof Levine is Awesome!! Helps you outside of class. Very funny keeps you engaged with his funny talks.
You have to buy a $25 book of readings. He only grades on the midterm and final, which require a lot of memorization. He does provide review sheets before the test, but some questions on the exams are specific points he only mentions in his lectures. Just write down everything he says, writes down or shows you (videos) and memorize titles and names
The SOC101 was not a bad experience for me. He gives 3 exams (ALL) which are based on the readings. The reading list which is only 25 dollars is the most important thing in the class and he will let you know that. If you participate, read and annotate the readings you will pass.
This class was honestly such a drag to show up to. He gives three tests, each with review sheets that are going to be the questions, word for word. He does give one or two questions on each test about things that happened in class, so make sure you go if you want an A. Wording for answers is also oddly specific so go to class for that too.
Basically the only thing you'll need is the $30 book of readings he assigns; the midterm and final will be on the readings. In the middle of the pandemic we transitioned to online, and he has been the most understanding prof throughout this. Legit told us dont worry about your grade, the most important thing right now is simply staying alive.
I loved this professor! Really funny guy and really lenient if you need anything - always accessible and there to help you. However, since you are graded solely on a midterm and final, make sure to read the book and attending lectures may help. The exams are not hard if you understood the reading to make sure to read and take notes on the articles
