Really good and fun teacher. Very helpful. Pretty easy class if you attend, take lecture notes, and do at least some reading. I wouldn't hesitate to take another class with this teacher.

Harry is a great teacher. Class consists of a few exams and one big project. Grades are fair, just turn in your project. Not too strict on role. He treats all the students like equal adults. Plus he has a spiderman tie. Bonus points.

I feel blessed to have had Mr. Mersmann because he is highly knowledgable in his subject and I enjoy going to his class. He shines as an amazing educator.

I have never in my life learned so much! He is an amazing teacher and fun. One thing I was a little weird about was how he only bses the grade off of three exams and a paper, but it was all ok I passed with a B and will take him again. Thanks Dr.!

This class is so boring. The test are hard. His lectures don't reflect the test, you have to read the book. He grades hard on the term papers. He does curve grades and only gives 4pts extra-credit. I would not recommend him for an easy "A".

I am a C student and I am getting an A this semester with Harry. I liked him a lot. The only way you can get a D is if you don't attend lectures on a regular bases and don't read the chapters assigned. And if you are doing bad in his class, you can talk to him outside of class and he will tell you what you need to do to get your grade up. It is not

This guy knows what he is talking about. Majority lecture and expects you to read the text but he really covers everything needed. Confusing midterms, but easy homework assignments. Always late for class but he makes up for it with his knowledge. Very passionate about sociology.

This teacher is amazing! I highly recommend taking him. I find Sociology to be kind of boring, but he makes class so interesting. I love the up-to-date statistics he provides. Plus he's extremely nice. Great man!

Fantastic teacher. Take notes because that is where the tests come from. Just pay attention, do his social actions and letters, (don't be late for class)and an easy A. Harry is very prolific professor and he encourages you to think outside the box,release your inhibitions,speak freely without judgment or ridicule.He is up to date with current affairs and pop culture although he has liberal hippie look with his long hair, mustache & goatee and a dangling earring that hangs from his left ear. What can I say about Harry? Well, for starters, he is a magnificent man. Every day in class I find myself endlessly gazing into his eyes. My life is complete with Harry. Do not miss an opportunity to have him as your professor.

I have taken several classes with him (fav being Soc of Gender). Don't take him unless you like Soc. He expects you to write and write well. He also expects you to read A LOT. Take him knowing you'll have to actually work at the class, but it's worth it. I transferred, and the work I did in his class still helps me (as do the books).

Great with catching your attention, hard to get distracted. Most of his lectures are the answers to the Quizes! Take notes meanwhile, this class will make you see the way of life in a different way!

Absolutely recommend this teacher. He is funny, casual, and very nice. Dont test his patience with phones or disruptions though or he will kick you out. But his class is easy, fun, and he makes a lot of good points that most people have never thought about. best socio teacher.

Highly recommend Professor Mersmann! He was a great teacher that made the class fun and interesting. I was never bored during lectures. His writing assignments are simple and easy, he mainly checks the grammar. Midterms are ok, but he grades on a curve. So I still ended up with an A

He explained anything confusing in easy terms and is very helpful. He grades the term paper strictly so be sure to put in the work or don't bother. He'll make the class fun and encourages student participation, so be ready to talk.

Harry's class is incredible. This is the most amazing professor I have ever had. His lectures are like listening to stories and he keeps you focused the whole class period. He is the nicest guy ever and is completely there for his students. Don't skip class his lectures are way better than reading the textbook and are totally worth it! He's AWESOME

If you want to learn then take Dr. Mersmann. Great humor, unique, and very intelligent. Keep up with your reading. Understand the material and you won't have a problem when it comes to tests or assignments. Just do your best. He is a tough grader, but he grades on a curve so it balances out. You will be missing out if you don't take him.

Best instructor that will give A's if you prove that you want to learn the content. Be cool, listen to lecture, be on time, ask questions. Be enthusiastic for crying out loud and you will get a good grade in the class. His classes are not boring. I dont know why people are saying he is.

Amazing teacher

His lecture is well supported by many researches and studies, and realistic examples. The concepts are taught clearly and explained with great examples, which made me nod because they are really and truly happening in the society. Perfect example of a teacher because he comes to class ready--- business oriented inside the class.

This class was amazing! No quizzes/papers. Midterm and final only. Grade is dependent on blogs & reading. His lectures were always refreshing & interesting. I would definitely take it again. As long as you read and keep a relatively detailed blog, you should ace the class. Midterm is optionally in a group. Final is not. Can leave class for exams.

Professor Mersmann has to be one of THE chillest teachers out. Things I like: he's funny, explains things, easy-going unless your phone goes off, very merciful and cares about students. My only two dislikes: not that many assignments to grade and sometimes the short lectures aren't related to the test.

You have about 50 blogs to write about, one blog for each chapter, in 3 different books. Sounds like a lot(its college lol)but its easy. Just read, relate and write about it

I loved his lectures but I hated the blogs. I ended up dropping the class after the midterm because I didn't feel like I was going to get a good grade. If you take his class, don't procrastinate w/ the blogs because you'll suffer big time.

Prof. Mersmann is a chill professor, he says things how they are. He honestly changed my view on a lot of things in society. Class is like a big group discussion. Participate, speak up, ask questions, state your opinion, this is your place to do that. He's a tough grader, I kept getting F's on the blogs, but he grades on a curve so I still passed.

Going into this class, I knew I was going to be put to work. At first, it was a little difficult getting used too. After 2 weeks, I got a hang of it. Majority of your grade is based off the blogs. All he wants in the blogs is to see your understanding of the material and how you can or cannot relate to it. Don't reword the reading. He HATES that!

Professor Mersmann is, without a doubt, knowledgeable about the subject material. He doesnt sugarcoat anything because he wants students to recognize and understand the problems of society. Its relatively easy to pass, just complete the few papers he assigns and study for the exams.

Very informative, Dr. Mersmann is among my more favorite professors at Delta College. As long as you read the assigned material you will pass his class. Do not be afraid to give an answer to any of his questions. He is very passionate about his work.

He really helps you to see society in different perspectives than what the norm is. Cares about his students and gives great feedback. Responds to emails quickly. Make sure you attend class for lecture, will assign mandatory blogs during lecture. Must keep up on blogs daily/weekly or will not do well. Lots of reading. Fun and inspiring.

Ask questions and be involved in class

He is a good teacher. Just show up to class and do homework, and you will be fine. There are blogs in which you post on an (almost) day to day basis about what you have read or learned in class. If you do not keep up with them, you will not do well in class; however, they only take about 20 min of your day so if you're lazy, don't take him.

Prof. Mersmann is one of the best professors Ive yet to have. Even compared to teachers before college, hes a character of his own but has an in-depth perspective on everything. He is an interesting and good professor. For Socio, you have to read the textbook and write blog posts every week. That's really all the homework. Show up to class because he does some graded activities. Do the work and you'll get an easy A.

Expect to do some heavy reading if you want an "A". He may come across as abrasive especially in the first month- I realized it was his way of eliminating those who do not want to put in the effort. He is knowledgeable and grades fairly. Consider this class as a critical thinking course and you will have no problems.

He has no teaching skills and just leans against a table the whole time and rambles. Hes very disrespectful and rude to his students. He doesnt do any real lectures so youre mostly teaching yourself from the online homework. I wish another professor taught this because I need it for my major. probably one of the worst ive had. No test and exams at all aside from the finals! You only do blogs (padlets) of the weekly readings from textbooks. Easy class and great professor. You just need to read and do the work on time and youre good to go! I got an A+ in this class!

With the reviews I read here I regretted taking his class when I got a 1 out of 6 on my first padlet post. I sat my butt up and took the class very serious. I logged into class anytime I am available and watched the once I missed. He responded to every message I sent to him after class. I worked hard and it paid. Harry is a great lecturer.

You just need to work hard and you dont have any problem. I got 1/6 in my first Padlet post and I realized I needed to work harder to pass. Got a 10/16 in the 2nd, participated in every discussion post and axed my 3rd Padlet post. He was always there to answer my questions. He is amazing. Work hard and you wont regret it. This is an earned A.

The professor really sets a strong tone, he expects hard work. At the end of the course, I am now a better writer than before. He grades very toughly this really pushes you to do better. Expect to read nearly 100 pages a week and write one paper on each reading. There is a midterm and a final, your answers should be rather lengthy close to 300words

I really enjoyed Harry's class. He responded to my messages quickly and respectfully. Took his course online due to the pandemic. What I will say is you have to really pay attention to lectures because they are full of info that is later used in tests and take reading seriously. He is a tough grader.

I really enjoyed this class even though it was difficult. Prepare to read at least 50 page chapters. Quizzes are very specific to the readings. Discussions are hard to participate in because they don't show up on To-Do List so I accidentally missed some. Lectures are recorded on zoom and are easy to watch. I learned a lot but I had to work for it.

This class really gets you to think and it was truly an enjoyable experience. Now his grading is hard because he doesn't tell you what he wants. There are also only about 6 assignments so you better learn quickly. Participation is not needed but very helpful in the class discussions. While attendance is not mandatory you might miss important things

Harry is a wonderful professor. He's is not only intelligent but also well spoken. He is one of the few individuals that grades based on what you interpret/what opinions you form based on the information provided from the lectures and readings vs what you can regurgitate back. I can't recommend him enough.
