Although he knows his material he speaks in a monotone voice and can become very boring.
Very funny professor. Tells a lot of jokes. Lectures you all the time. However, you will learn just by his approach.
I did learn alot from his class. He gives good notes. Although his exams are very tricky and hard. He is not generous with grades.
good teacher, his work is fair
Boring professor, talks too much. Doesn't give a good review for the exams. His exams are not easy. Gives long reading assignments for homework.
very interesting lessons a very good prof. really knows what he is talking about.. basically he knows his history. i would take a class with him again.
I think this professor is an excellent lecturer and has unusually funny humor to complement his insighful lectures. overall if you do his readings and participate in his course you should do very well.
He's mad boring and doesn't review good for tests. He expects us to read EVERYTHING instead of reviewing good. Plus he tries to be funny, but he's not. Really boring, I just wanna go to sleep in his class...
boring..talk so much in class.. he tries to be funny but he only laughs at his own jokes people laugh with him only because to be nice...his tests are SOOOO HARDD. he assigns like 70 pages or reading everyday..overall he is a horrible teacher
He talks a lot and very fast. It is difficult to get him to go over some material. Way too much reading involved (about 3 or 4 chapters a week which is about 200-250 pages a week). Tests were multiple choice. You really need to do the reading and pay attention to the lectures.
Boring...just wanted to sleep in his class...zzzzzzzzzzzzzz...
yeah it hard to pay attention but it can be an easy A bc he tells you whats on the test and instead of reading everything just read whats on the test, he also give lots of extra credit
am i the only one who likes this guy?Lol...its not the best teacher but hes a nice guy.
Really knowledgable of course content, and makes even the most boring of topics interesting and memorable.
Gret teaacher. Just take very good notes in his class and study the notes. Only needed book for essay and got A+. I would take him again. Anyone who complained did not take notes.
boring, useless and if he like you he will inflate your grade, also lots of favoritism in class, like other professors @ KBCC.
Great professor if interested in history. His jokes can be corny but if u r smart enough you can undestand them. Great speaker and he gives a lot of extra credit.
NOT an excellent professor. Maybe he needs to get back into ethics in all aspects.
Very funny and smart person, great as a teacher and a joker. Teaches to those who get him and passes too. If you want to be in an interesting class and can think take his class. There is no homework but you must have a brain.
Great teacher, nice guy who means no harm to anyone. Easy tests which are essay or multiple choice based on a class vote.He dose ask you to do the reading everynight, but I just skimed through the pages 5-10 minuntes before class, which works well and I recieved alot of extra credit that way which is good for the next test or final HIGHLY RECCOMEND
Great prof very funny, but in a corny way. Always with the jokes and smiles, as he teaches the class. I really learned alot and looked forward to his class. His testes are either multiple choice or essay depending on a class vote. Defiantly take him.
He is a funny guy and very helpful, but his tests are very hard. Despite this, he tells you what is going to be on the test and gives a lot of extra credit questions. I got B in his class only because i was participating in class and because of extra credit. Only two students out of 38 got A. TESTS ARE SO HARD
His class is very interesting and I never feel boring. He did not use the book in the class, but students were required lots of reading on our own. His test is ok if you took notes. Also, He has some strange rules and jokes..
Very amusing teacher, always has a habit of making funny jokes and makes the classes very interesting. I can proudly say I never fallen asleep in his class.
Typical professor!! but Good! hard tests!! pick an "essay final". Good Luck. He's very hip.
Was funny, kind and always helpful. His tests were straight forward and the material wasn't hard. He curves his exams like crazy so it's easy to do well. Read the book and pay attention. There is NO homework! Take him!
He is a nice professor, but i would not syggest to take this teacher to the students who learns english as the second language, for me it was really hard to understand him,his tests is so hard and tricky, have to remember almost everyghing from the book,he speaks really fast and i didnt have a time to take quick notes, good luck with him;)
Good prof, knows subject cold.Has a great kowledge of early American history and is very passionate about it. Plenty of reading, but tests are fair and straightfoward. Also shows a fine sense of humor. Great class.
Speaks too quickly. Rattles off a bunch of facts, and you're left trying to figure out what's important. Gives tests on 6 chapters at a time, so studying is very difficult. Lots of trick questions on tests. Funny and obviously passionate and extremely knowledgeable about american history. About a chapter and a 1/2 of reading a week.
GENIUS. Lot of coursework but he is funny. If you work he will not disappoint you. I got an A-
Decent, but many downsides. Assuming you can read a chap/day, professor will highly favor participation and your interest. Tests are cake, but you'll need to study. Prof wastes time with tangents, isn't clear with his method, & requires you to sort out the important from nonsense. Overall, look elsewhere if you don't like an unhelpful course guide.
great professor. lots of jokes, interesting class.I got A,
Awesome teacher. Love him.
He is awesome!
nice guy. first tests are easy final is essays though can get you
Do Not Take This Professor. He doesn't care about the class or any students at all, has no email or phone so it is impossible to contact him. Talks about nonsense during class, makes you read a lot, and gives very hard tests.
Amazing professor! His knowledge is incredible! One of the smartest men I had ever encountered. If you are interested in history at all you must take him. He expects you to read and listen, but he always paints a very interesting picture. The tests are not easy, but if you read, you'll do fine.
Hard tests
His class Is hard don't take him im warning you!!!!!!!!
horrible taken him twice and still not learning very off topic unfair does not prepare you for finals at all loves giving f to many other friends i know as well beware fromt his guy
Worst Professor I have ever taken, so boring. I basically passed because I read the book even though I showed up everyday, he doesn't make the lesson interesting he thinks hes funny but hes joke really don't make sense because you have to be his age to understand them, only gives 3 test.
Look, if you're looking for an easy A, then this isn't the class for you. However, if you're looking to learn, then you'll enjoy this class. Lectures are great, and gives a lot of extra credit. You have to read a lot, but it's worth it because you can answer questions in class for extra credit. Tests are tricky, but he grades on a curve. I got an A
One of the worst professor in the kbcc
Wonderful professor. (calls himself a dinosaur). very good humor, you wont be bored, but you will work your rear off. If your're in college because you want to learn, work hard, and prove that you deserve an A, take him. If your in college because you like to waste time and get an A for showing up, stay out of his class.
if you're looking for an easy A pick another professor. Lectures are interesting . You will have to read.
Professor Schwartz is perhaps the best history in all of CUNY. I took him twice once for his 59 and his 15. Best decisions of my life. He enhanced my knowledge and helped me develop skills for thinking abstractly about history. If i were to get a P.H.D in the subject, i would want him to be my mentor.
Professor Schwartz is the greatest U.S. History in KCC. He is so knowledgeable and passionate on teaching History. I like his teaching style which is rapid and abundant.
i never bought the text book and i still passed he says everything he wanted you to read the next day in class he a good teacher but his test are long over 50 question i was one of two people who passed the midterm and still got a C
professor Schwartz is a very passionate on teaching U.S History, but he doesn't gives any handout so we have to focus 100% in class to be able understand he's lecture. He's test are average not too hard as long we read the text book. Overall he's a great teacher :)
Lectures seem long and boring because all he does is talk. Also, expects you to know every topic he talks about.
Great teacher. If you enjoy history you'll love his class. He is passionate on history and knows much more than the current class he teaches. He gives a bunch of extra credit, all you have to do is read. No homework, only reading, which is easy if you love history. Lectures are great, and often funny. I honestly look forward to this class everyday.
He is not as helpful as other professors.
Don't take it If you're hoping for an A. Get ready to be able to past very hard tests and read a lot. Not a helpful professor. No test reviews. No clearness on what subjects will be covered on the test. If you're very into history, you might enjoy the lectures. It seems like he is mostly trying to show how knowledgeable he is.
Amazing teacher. Very interesting. Discussions are always a story. Good humor.
Hey hey, So after reading other students reviews I felt the need to intervene. I love this class, I never considered myself a "history person". But he teaches with so much passion and has so many funny helpful stories. I suggest you read, it will help with the tests and get you extra credit! I skimmed the night before and got an 79!You can be late
This class is not an easy A, but if you're not a slacker and you want to learn and are willing to read you will enjoy this class and will find it interesting. He is a good lecturer, keeps the material interesting and he has a good sense of humor. Multiple Choice exams and final has an essay. Offers a lot of extra credit, take advantage! Recommend.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!! He will ruin your GPA. Run for the hills!
Simply mean and sadistic his tests come out of nowhere and doesn't know how to teach
Gives a midterm that no one passed and still says the grade stands with no curve. He terrible and makes you unbelievably confused do NOT take him! He's awful
You can try your hardest to even pass forget about the A and fall flat on your face. Doesn't care about you he really doesn't like teaching nearly impossible to pass unless you don't have any other classes.
Lectures are engaging and energetic. Not everything he says will be on the tests but he will stress the important details. On top of the extra credit he also gives curves. Any average student will be able to excel.
All I have to say is have fun failing or dropping the class. Unless you just have his class and get day and night energy into it, or it will not end up well.
I took his class my first semester in college. He gave quizzes out of nowhere, which were impossible to pass. He also got sick and didn't show up to class for three days, but of course he didn't let us know, because he doesn't believe in technology, so my classmates and I would show up and do nothing. Awful.
He is one of the smartest and the most knowledgeable professors in KBCC! His lectures are very interesting. His class isn't an easy A, but the requirements are easy: read the book, listen to his lectures and participate, and he won't fail you. Lots of extra credit points that will be added to your test score plus a curve.
It's a hard history class, you have to pay attention & read the textbook. But it is not a boring history class. Prof. knows a lot and can narrate it in a captivating way. He really makes history come alive and provides multiple points of view for a given event. I am from Russia, and knew/cared nothing about US history. Prof. Schwartz changed that.
This is the worst professor to take if you don't like history or reading.
Honestly a horrible professor... Never writes notes on the board, basically tells you to just read and you'll pass but that obviously is not true. He favors a lot so don't feel bad when he chooses the same people.
Professor Schwartz is a good lecturer but requires you to read and retain the information that is in the textbook. Participation goes a long way and there are plenty of chances to get extra credit I enjoyed his class but it was not easy. I received an A and would consider another class taught by him if given the opportunity.
Awful Professor, never take him. Very boring and tough grading professor. If you want to take his class, so forget about A or B grades, and he is gonna ruin your GPA. Also a lot of reading for the class. His tests are very hard and in the final exam you will write 2 essays, no multiple choice.
Stay far away! I dont even know how guys like this are allowed to be professors at this day and age. He expects way too much from us With the little amount of information he gives us, If youre looking for an A or even a B dont take his class! If you have a life outside of Kingsborough dont take his class!
well, most students dropped the class, but always says that WU is much more worst then F. I listened to him and waited until the and got an F. But my advice to all of you is if you are in his class just drop the class unless you are doing good in his class.
I've taken 2 of his history classes and I really do not understand the poor ratings. He gives you an opportunity every single day to get extra credit, he offers an extra credit paper before the final, and he is a nice man. I'm not sure if philosophy is the same but his history classes are very fair and if you fail it's not his fault
If possible avoid this professor. Hes a good guy and very respectful, but a very hard grader. Majority of everyday class is lectures and boring long in going lectures. Professor jumps back and forth from topic and can get very confusing. You must read the textbook to pass or participate in class. I would personally avoid taking his class any day.
I had no idea of American History because i didn't grow up in USA and this person made me learn a lot in six weeks. his lecture is like a story narration keep good notes and you good to go. extra credit in each class will keep your grade up(take advantage of the reading).!! you can be late or leave earlier from his class.
Come to class, pay attention during his lecture/take notes, do the reading he assigns, and study for the tests. His tests are really hard but he does a class-wide curve, so you should be able to do well after that if you study. He's not looking to fail you, but you'll probably get a D or worse if you don't pay attention/do the readings.
The only professor I ever failed and the worst one I ever came across
Here is the truth, if you want to get A in this class, just read the textbook. You can rent on Amazon for 12 bucks. And if you read the textbook, you are able to answer the question in class for extra credit add on to you exam. He is nice in general.
As long as you read the book you will do wonders. He is hilarious his sense of humor is different but he made me laugh a lot. Read the book memorize the important parts and he will tell you what is on the test.
BAD STUFF: Had I taken him in my 1st semester, I would've failed. He sometimes talks too fast and is unclear what era/topic he's discussing. His tests are hard. GOOD STUFF: He grades on a curve. If you read the textbook and remember the important topics you can participate by answering his questions to get extra credit.
This guy is a bad teacher !! All he does is talk without showing us whats going on, no handouts nothing
If you can avoid taking his class, DO SO! The class is super boring. Gives no notes or review for the tests and makes you only read the textbook. He gives alot of extra credit from the text book, but if English is your second language and you try to participate, he will embarrass you in front of the whole class.
A respectful professor that gives 3 extremely difficult exams. I barely made it out alive without the cliff grading and the extra credits that one needs to be earned in class from reading the other night.
Professor Schwartz is one of the best professors I came across at Kbcc. He is energetic, extremely interesting and intelligent. I have learned soo much from being in his class this semester. He offers the best of his knowledge to the students in his class . He will make you look forward to go to his class .
If you dislike having someone talk at you for an hour without wanting a response back do not take his class. He was a really nice guy and funny in a weird way but his class dragged on foreverrrrrr. I wound up dropping this class because I just could not retain any information with his teaching style. A lot of textbook reading. not interesting
Professor Schwarz is a great and inspirational educator! He was helpful and accommodating during the summer session. I highly recommend his classes for students who are ready to read and put some effort into their educational process. His lectures are very informative and fun. Also, if Eng is not your native language, be ready to learn new words:)
I took his online class during the pandemic era. He would record long lectures for us to listen too, over an hour long. Plenty of good info, but yeah, hard to sit through. He would gives us the option of doing plenty of extra credit through answering discussion questions on BB. Online exams consisted of writing long focused essays. Caveat Emptor.
You can learn a lot from his class, but you will not easy to get a good grade.
In Spring 2020, I had taken this Professor during the pandemic of COVID-19. I have to say he was very respectful and very helpful. He really helped me a lot in this online course. I'm unsure if I had passed his course in-person.
Honestly, don't take this man. Hes rude and doesn't explain himself when asked for an explanation your grade. Gives a lot of discussion extra credit so it can help your grade but if you dont word it the way he wants no points given. Grades essays harshly! Could barely get an 85 on my best essay. To avoid stress is to avoid him.
Only gives extra credit at the beginning of the semester, tough grader, doesn't give or provide feedback on essays. This professor's lectures provides a lot of information but most or all of his lectures takes a very long time especially his videos for class. If you can, don't take his History 1100 class. Even though there is a textbook required.
Dont take at all. He is not the one willing to teaching. He is rude, rude, rude.
worsttt
HATE THIS CLASS U WONT UNNDERSTAND A THING.
This course was one of the easiest courses I took throughout the semester. Professor gives extra credits to help boost exam scores. I don't understand where all these 1 stars ratings coming from.
i dislike this class
I chose an asynchronous class and it was probably the worst. He assigns 10-40 pages of reading every Monday and Thursday for "extra credit" discussion boards that are "Optional" and they're due by Wednesdays and Saturdays. The discussion board questions and exams(multiple choice) are all reworded. He's also intimidating.
Prepare to read a lot, the plus side of taking this class is that he gives extra credit to boost your exam grade. If you read the book, you will pass his class
she does not accept late assignments
Professor is not great. I don't recommend him. His audio lectures are not very clear. There is a lot of noise on them. He is very hands-off. Read the text, take the exams. There are no quizzes. There are discussion board questions for extra credit. Very easy to get an A in this class but the lack of interaction and mentoring isn't for me.
I had him online and I disliked how he would take extra credit discussions away from bb, so if you missed it, that's it. he seems intimidating and his vibe and grading came off rude. He also assigns reading, the textbook he provides which is good but a lot reading. You will NOT be able to give in any late work, or extra credit.
Be hopeful, not realistic. This professor - "bet." Kinda regret not writing a little more on that final essay to get an A instead, but this was the best I hoped for. Lotta ec as long as u do a discussion post per exam week and the essay at the end. The textbook is wack, but take good notes, it'll be your friend. Learned Abe Lincoln was racist, tho.
He does too much
He is such a great professor. He gives a lot of extra credit and brings up your grade if you didn't do so well on tests. He is also very helpful and the discussion boards are easy. He gives constructive criticism but it's very helpful in the long run. He is very fair, his work is not that difficult if you do the reading. The course is good as well.
Lot of reading, but you can boost your grade with extra credit. Make sure to engage with the textbook - it's helpful for the multiple-choice exams. I found unstuck ai great for essay prep too.
Cannot understand anything he says. He does random extra credit questions which can be helpful to boost grade but my god its the most boring class I have been to. After every lecture I question my entire life about what I could've done with my 2 hours.
