Took the class last summer and so far he is the best teacher I have ever had at ISU. He explained everything clearly and he made you understand the material from the very fundamental basics. The quizzes and exams were fair. And he made you think and really understand the concepts, not only using equations.
This professor will teach you if you want to sincerely learn. Make sure that you have a properly formulated question before going to him, once you have a clear questions he will help you readily.
Hart is one of the best professors I've had. His lectures are full of examples and he explains concepts along with equations so you get a well rounded idea of what's going on. He is always available to help and answers emails at essentially any time of day/night. He also gives you great review material before exams.
Definitely not an "easy A" class, but man he's amazing! He will make you learn a lot, whether you like it or not. I respect this guy. He'll explain the concepts so you can understand the material better. I wish he taught other classes. ISU has a lot of "easy A" instructors but you don't really learn anything from those structures classes.
Unfair grader, takes way to long to grade anything, lectures are boring and uneventful, expects you to understand everything from the first time teaching you, and can be rude at times. Pick someone else.
Skills: Excel, programming language, algebra. There is statics, if you did high school physics, you good. If you know the stuff from the power point, you don't have to go to class, however classwork and homework are given in class, and you choose your group. Harsh grading, but you get points back if you ask. Helpful b/c he wants you to succeed ^_^
Hart is one of my favorite professors in CE. He taught a tough class well. He is readily available outside of office hours. He is always willing to help students who are willing to try. His homework assignments are long, but they help you understand the material very well. He does a great job teaching a lot of material in a short time.
Great material, great class, worth taking! Prestressed is not the easiest thing to learn, but he made the class interesting and he could explain everything in great detail. I enjoyed taking the class and learned a lot. Homework could be long, but he wanted you to learn, unlike most professors in CE.
While this teacher definitely knows what he's talking about, he goes over the bare minimum in class, then gives much harder problems for homework. The homework takes 6 to 8 hours, and is given weekly! He doesn't post examples nor helpful notes online, and the tests are ALL trick questions. Also he refuses to go over subjects from 332 and mechanics.
Dr. Wibowo is one of the best teachers at isu . While I had to work my butt off, I was encouraged to work hard and learn the material in detail. This was great and I feel that I know the material so much better now than compared to my other classes. My suggestion for success, work hard and ask questions (he is always available for questions).
Professor Wibowo is probably the best professor I have had so far at ISU. Is very friendly and gives out ALOT of extra credit. The examples he does in class closely resemble what you see on an exam so going to class was a good idea.
Imagine you are a child learning to swim. On the edge of the pool, an accomplished lifeguard repeatedly blows his whistle and shrieks, "Swim! SWIM! Why aren't you swimming??" This process goes on for the length of an entire semester. This is how Dr. Hart teaches.
I took Statics 3x and when I took it with Dr. W I could see myself passing the class. He explains things clearly and gives a lot of examples. Do the homework and go to his office hours if you have questions, it helps. He cares about his students. Definitely better compared to my past Statics profs. A lot of material, but he didn't set the syllabus.
Some of these positive reviews leave me very skeptical. This teacher does not give step by step solutions, he only gave 1 hour of availability a week (he wasn't there two times I stopped by) and doesn't post grades online. The average for his test was an F. Smart dude but stubborn and not a good teacher. Expects students to understand material ASAP
Learned the most in college from this class, made me realized other structures classes didn't really prepare me for my career as a structural engineer. Do the homework, pay attention in class, and you will be fine. He doesn't spoon feed and wants you to work to understand, but it is worth it. And he is almost always in his office if you need him.
Statics can be difficult, but he made it easy, seriously. Just come to class and pay attention to his examples and explanations. I also did the homework, which prepared me for the exams. At the end, I could say that I was very pleased with the grade I got. And as he said it, if you didn't do the homework yourself, you'd be struggling in the exams.
Horrible at putting testable materials into lectures. Homework was nothing like in class examples or problems. Lectures did not help at all. Homework was very long and not taught prior to being assigned. Exams were extremely hard. Made us buy a $100 textbook we never used then had to buy a $120 code book.
Taking a class with Hartanto means 2 things: you will hate yourself but you will pass and be prepared for anything that comes at you. The expectations are high and the course is difficult, but he prepares you best for the exams.
If this teacher taught the entire semester and not just half, 90% of the students would have failed. The average for his first test was an F. He would not go over statics or mechanics, he didn't post grades online, he assigned homework that took hours upon hours to complete, and he never posted solutions or notes online. I recommend anyone else.
I respect the man but not the method.
My favorite Profesor I have had so far at Iowa State. I have never had a Profesor that cares more about his students. He puts in so much time outside of class to help students out. He has a great personality and is very funny. Even though I was in a sizable lecture, he gets to know the students and likes to walk around and short talk before class.
Wibowo was by far my favorite professor yet. He really cares about how his students do and will do anything to help you succeed. Saying that, he makes you work for it. The homework is hard, but prepares you very well for the exam. Take this course serious as the material is hard and comes at you fast.
Dr. Wibowo's statics is by far the hardest statics section offered, and the homework assignments he gives are easily twice as hard as the other professors. However, his office hours are the key to doing well, and all the time and effort on homework pays off because his sections always do the best on each exam and get the best grades!
Wibowo is easily one of the best professors at Iowa State. He goes quick in the lecture but is very accessible outside of class. The homework is intense and as difficult as the exams; prepare to think and work hard. He will absolutely give you everything you need to succeed and works hard to make the course doable.
Dr. Wibowo is an excellent professor who genuinely cares about his students and is great at preparing you for the departmental exams. Be prepared for some very difficult homework as he uses this to prepare you for exams. He doesn't post his lecture notes, but he is great at making time outside of class for questions and responds to emails very fast
Hart is one of the best professors I've had! He is pretty intimidating at first, but he truly cares about his students. Take notes and listen to his predictions before exams! Go to office hours, it helps a lot!! If you ask for extra credit he will more than likely give it to you. He believes in tough love, so show him you care about your grade
Professor Wibowo is not ideal for online statics, exam averages were consistently in the low fifty-percent range and he refuses to curve. He preaches about putting in more work, but doesn't prepare you enough for the exams that come from a third party. Contributed far less to the course than other profs. Few of us passed (former 3.8-4.0 students)
He was extremely tough but I learned statics better than anyone else. He is very nice and fun, so you don't mind the pain of statics. He is available any time of day or night(ie. 2am). His hw was very long but prepared us well so the exams were easy while other professors' students struggled a lot with them and didn't learn the material well.
Worst professor ive ever had. He expects you to teach this class like a full time job and doesnt seem to realize we have other classes we are taking. Homework is extremely difficult.
Statics was the worst online class I had to take. They were completely unorganized and unprepared for online classes. They loaded up on more homework assuming the students have more free time since everything is online. The exams consistently had terrible averages but Wibowo refused to curve anything and blamed it on the students.
Worst professor I've had at Iowa State. Avoid at all costs. Spent 80% of my weekly studying/work on his class just to keep up with assignments, which hurt my learning in other classes significantly. Quizzes every week, that could be on several completely different topics. Homework problems are nothing like examples or lectures. Overall, ridiculous.
Like many, I dropped this class. Tests were based on obscure things covered in the poorly recorded lectures, which had almost no practical usage outside of a classroom (such as an A beam??). Class was organized so you would fail-watch a video, get quizzed, then do the 12 hour homework assignment. Avoid this class at all costs.
Wibowo is a great guy. He is super nice and tries his best to teach. Asynchronous online statics was an absolute dumpster fire. Half the class failed or dropped. They would not curve the class. The worst class I have taken.
Hardest class I've ever taken only because of this professor. The weekly homework always took between 6-12 hours, the exams were impossible to finish on time and were nothing like what was in the homeworks, the quizzes were over things nobody understands yet are worth the same as a homework. I could write a novel about everything. Avoid this prof.
I'm going to make this short, DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH THIS GUY HE IS AWFUL.
Mr. Wibowo does not make time for students outside of class, does not provide any example problems for reference, compiles terrible lecture videos, and does a poor job of teaching nearly anything. Good luck.
Wibowo is a very misunderstood professor at Iowa State. I had heard nothing but negative reviews of his teaching style but was desperate and went up to his office for help. He was very open to helping me learn even though I was in a different section. He is patient in answering my questions and is the only reason I am able to learn in this class
This professor is the worst professor I had at ISU. He pretends he cares about his students when in reality, he does not care much about helping his students pass and make it extremely difficult to pass the class. Things discussed on homework, platoon meetings, and lectures are unrelated to what is given on the exam. Lecture videos are confusing.
Very condescending.
Dr. Wibowo was the worst experience I've ever had when it came to accomidations. My learning disability isn't that severe, all I really need is more time and he went out of his way to tell me that it would be too hard for platoon leaders and himself to keep track of it. Went out of my way to offer solutions and his blatant refusal made it hell
Homework every week, its quite good practice. Wibowo goes through a lot of examples really quickly so be prepared for class. You must watch the lecture videos before class, because he goes through examples in class. If youre confused, TAs and the textbook are very useful as well. Class is doable but hard: just gotta show up and work for it!
There were no example problems with work shown on his website before homework was due. He also told graders to grade work as hard as possible even if an answer was right a large majority of the points for the question were lost. I would not suggest to have this professor.
I was told not to get this professor before going into the class but he turned out to be great. Was very willing to give back points on exams and homework. Made time on weekends and after class if you needed to meet with him. He does go through a lot of examples in class which was nice to have for the homework. Overall was pretty good.
He moves so fast through new material and doesn't explain anything. You will only do examples in class and no instruction
He teaches solely through examples and moves fast through some material, but he is very willing to meet with you outside of class. He definitely cares about his students and wants to help them succeed. I highly recommend going to class and all the platoons (they help more than you can imagine).
Hartanto is one of my favorite professors. He does go very fast, but he does so under the expectation that you watched the lecture video for the class beforehand. He was always willing to explain his steps during lecture. Go to lecture, go to platoon, you'll do well
Don't even bother studying the in class examples. Take any example problem he gives you and flip it upside down and add a few obscure shapes to it and that is what you will be tested over. This man is evil.
Dude was honestly kinda funny at first and I liked him. Then the first test came around and it wasn't even possible. Studied a minimum of infinity hours to most likely get a .1%. Probably just don't t even study because you'll do just as good. If you want a 1% start studying before you even get to the class.
Was this class fun? No. Did I enjoy myself? No. Did I learn a lot? Yes. Did I hate every second of it? Yes. Was it a beneficial experience for my future? Yes. Overall, Hartanto is a hard teacher, but you will learn a lot and benefit greatly from his classes. Make sure to work hard and set lots of time for studying and homework.
The actual material that is being taught is fairly easy to understand. The professor, however, makes the class unreasonably difficult. He makes us attend a SECOND class every week (even though it doesn't count as an additional credit) and gives way too many homework examples in each assignment than needed. He is very harsh when grading them too.
I have never felt compelled to write a review about a professor, until Hartanto Wibowo. His lectures use simple examples that look NOTHING like the HW and you are better off praying then studying for the exams (they're 99% of your grade) because exams won't look like ANYTHING you've seen! He is condescending and pretends to care about his students.
Gets undeserved flack from students, he cares and wants you to pass. Statics is a hard class no doubt but blaming Dr. Hart is not the way to go. Use the resources to pass like the newish CE help hours that ran from 5-8 everyday of the week when I took it, otherwise go to his help hours and platoon. He will also respond instantly at 1am emails.
this professor is that he only cares about himself. He will tell the class that if they are not doing well they should drop the class. He calls students "dead weight" in class if they do not understand. He asks the class questions, and if you answer incorrectly he will degrade you in front of the class, saying "how do you not know this by now"
Has zero empathy for students, and only sees issues in black or white, no gray area ever.
Kinda of mean and tests are really hard with very little time given to take them
Hart is a terrible professor. He doesn't understand how to communicate a basic course to undergraduate students. He shows no care for how much effort you put into the class. Make sure to drop this class, or change professors if you see his name on your schedule.
Prof. WIbowo isn't a bad professor but also he is not good either. The material isn't actaully that bad besides the first exam, and overall straight forward. My problem was timing, the exam is 90 min and it's 4 questions and almost nobody finishes before time and a lot of people skip a question so they can finish the other questions on time.
He is very knowledgeable but is extremely condescending and rude in the delivery of his teaching. Will belittle you for asking questions he deems obvious but will also judge you for not asking him questions. He is extremely unhelpful during office hours as he just ridicules you for not knowing something. Avoid him at all costs, he has no remorse.
The class itself is not too bad, you just need to put in the work. Wibowo however, can be a rude professor. He appears to be open and tells people to ask questions, but often shuts down people and acts condescending. His "lectures" are also just him putting up examples on the screen and giving little explanation behind the problems or the concepts.
Very accessible outside of class, always answers emails (even at 1 am), fun to talk to at his office hours, will do his best to explain topics if you come to him 1 on 1. In class though not so great. He did warm up toward the end of the semester when he met knew most people in his office hours. In my opinion he was not that bad, I enjoyed his class
The material in this class is arguably easier than calculus, why then did 25% of people have to drop before the deadline? Hartanto also clearly prides himself on being a 'straight shooter' and being brutally honest, but only succeeds at being a rude, arrogant man. He waltzes around before class talking to almost exclusively women in his class.
Has favorite and is not afraid to show it.
The class isn't bad and the content is pretty easy to understand. Wibowo is awful though, when you ask him a question he scans you up and down making it look like you asked a dumb question when you actually didn't and is extremely sexist. Like if you aint't a female he ain't gonna take you seriously. Exams recently have been hard and the avg are 50
Easily the worst professor I've had in my life. What a nightmarish experience he creates.
This is a hard class and some students do not want to put in the effort required. The professor is very honest and blunt, but definitely means well.
Challenging course with a lot of work. Not a lot of graded items, exam heavy, and harsh grading. Be prepared to truly experience the grind of college and the toll of getting a good grade. You can pass as long as hours are spent studying and reviewing work. Lectures & platoons are super helpful. He'll give valuable feedback when you go for it.
He knows the material well, and conveys fairly well. HOWEVER, he is the most condescending person I have met in my entire life. I can count on one hand the number of times he answered a question nicely the entire semester. Naturally no one wants to ask questions. But then when no one asks questions, he has to make a snide comment.
Had Wibowo for Statics Fall 2021. Expects you to watch videos outside of class, but goes through many examples in class. Can be very hard to follow, but they're good examples. Exams are tough and graded tougher. Wibowo is arrogant and sometimes shows students up. Platoons were helpful depending on your leader.
I thought he covered the content well; he gave many examples that related well to homework and test questions. he is very responsive over email and will check homework answers in person. He is not the best at answering questions.
Dr. Wibowo gets so much unnecessary backlash from students. He is one of the most helpful professors I have had but can only do so much if you do not seek help/understanding in the first place. Statics is hard and will not become much easier if you do not dedicate sufficient time and effort to understanding the material. Stick with it!
Okay. This professor seems rough when u first meet him but OMG HE EXPLAINS THINGS SO WELL. Do the examples, it's super easy to understand, and if u need help, make a mistake like screw up a submission TALK TO HIM HE WILL HELP YOU. He wants you to succeed and he may seem like a jerk, but he is 10/10 wants u to succeed and understand material
This professor is genuinely the worst form of instructor I've ever had. He preaches an attitude of hard work and progress, but does not provide any of the help you will need to find it. His responses to questions are the equivalent of saying, “Why aren't you smarter? Just be smarter. You're wrong.”
Challenging course with a lot of work. Very few graded items, exam-heavy, and harsh grading. Wibowo is awful.
treats students who get good grades better.he will talk about how students should feel free to ask questions but if you ask him a question he will stare at you for a good 5 seconds making you feel bad that you asked a question as if it was a bad question, telling you that you should know this by now.then gives you a non-detailed general answer
There are two other professors that teach statics, and I would recommend them even though I have never met them.
I had this professor a few semesters ago, but after reading these reviews, I wanted to give him the credit he deserves. He can come off intimidating at first, but if you put in the effort he warms up to you a lot. He genuinely cares about his students and wants every single one of them to succeed, all you have to do is seek out his help.
There's a reason why people outside his section get more grades/pass than people in his section.
Horrible professor, very bad. DONT TAKE
I really enjoyed taking this class with Prof Wibowo. I wont sugar coat it, yes, the class is hard, yes it takes a lot of time, but you have to realize that the class is supposed to be. Prof. Wib. would help me outside of class whenever I needed it and always pushed me to be my best in class. Wibowo is very helpful walking through problems in class!
That guy can not be a professor He did not respect that I needed a religious accommodation He literally gave me a side eye and told me "then go register for another professor" Secondly trying to understand why I lost points in an exam he told me "I'm not here to bargain this is the grade" Register for other professors Do not make same mistake as me
Literally avoid him at all costs and go to Hosteng or Miner. Teaching-wise, he's fine, but he's condescending and rude. Berates students for not asking questions, but then belittles you when you do. Left his office hours once bc all he did was tell me everything I did was wrong instead of giving me feedback on how to fix it. Very rude instructor.
Wibowo knows the material very well, too well. He forgets that students are seeing the material for the first time. VERY harsh person. Instead of helping in office hours he will insult your intelligence before telling you "you did something wrong in your work" and sending you on your way.
Absolutely do not take his class. Worst decision I have ever made. Might be the most rude professor in existence. He might be the worst lecturer to ever exist. Works faster than anyone can comprehend, and doesn't clarify misconceptions the whole lecture hall has. He does not care if you pass his class at all, and is only here for a paycheck.
