Did anyone take him before?
Does anyone know anything about this professor?
I found his rating in Pace http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/ShowRatings.jsp?tid=373165
while professor poniachek is well intentioned his lecturing will bore the class into a state of complete apathy. he insists upon incessant repetition of material previously covered in lectures which in turn was covered in depth in the prerequisites, over two months into the semester we're still waiting to hear something new.avoid if u want 2 learn
Horrible! Very boring and sometimes rude to students. Seemed like it was his first time teaching material. He could not explain concepts well and struggled through examples, but exams were still difficult...
Simply the worst professor ever!! Does not know how to teach, often confuses himself, no partial credit, horrible!! Wasted my time, ruined my interest on the subject.
Horrible so far! He is boring and rude to students. He cannot explain the matterial, struggles through examples, nothing good to report.
Simply the worst professor you can find on earth!
About as thrilling as mud in winter. Took the class to knock out a finance and intl requirement together. Prof seems to confuse himself in lectures. Lectures add nothing. No partial credit on exams. Offers no guidance on project, deriving exchange indecies. Didn't know where to find some of his own sources.
Do not take this class if you do not have to! Professor is rude, and arogant. The class book does not support his teaching style. Therefore you are doing 2x as much work to not understand the course material. He is just not a good professor
Better you get used to his, poor, handwriting ASAP. Otherwise he is fine. Has a cute accent and some sense of humar too. Knows the subject and expects students to know the basics. Provides good notes, examples etc.
Tough material, but professor explains it well. Midterm easy b/c he gives you the types of questions that will be asked. The final is tougher and you need to study. Go to class, you'll get the benefit of the doubt on the grade.
dont take
Prof.Poniachek is one of the best Prof. I have taken. He gives some smart replies to your questions, but nevertheless, he is very knowledgeable and fair in his grading.
Avoid by all means.Terrible teacher. His lectures are extremely confusing,he jumps from one subject to another leaving you totally lost.Final exam is very difficult and different from class problems.

Others think he is biased, but I am of a different race than he is and I still got an A.He loves participation and he faovrs those who sit in the front. If you do not make yourself known, he will not know you. All I did was participate ALOT and study previous exams that he hands out bc they are the same, only yhe numbers is what he changes. Take him
BEWARE! BEWARE!Don't take this class, ever..if you want international course..take any other but this one..you will regret your life, your opinion about baruch will change completely in selecting right professor. Professor has no knowledge about the subject, will confuse you, textbook and his words don't match, final is so hard that you will scratc
Warning: DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! It is extremely convoluted. Hard to keep up with prof and his lectures often conflict with what the book says. He probably knows his stuff, but he is not a good teacher. Will turn you off Finance!
Great professor! I wish more of the faculty were as enthusiastic about teaching as he was. I had a very enjoyable time during the semester. The class covered a lot of material, but it was very rewarding. I highly recommend.
Outstanding professor! Everyone should teach like him. He was always open to questions and answered them very thoroughly. The class covered a lot of material, but it was very rewarding. I highly recommend taking a course by him for anyone interested in developing their financial skills and analytic ability.
He does have a bad hand writing, but you can get use to it. At first it seems like the class will be a nightmare, but at the end you really notice that you have learned a lot. He is helpful if you want help. Having an attitude is not going to get you anywhere. You have to remember that this is a hard material and you have to spend some time on it.
He knows his stuff, maybe not the best professor Baruch has, but still pretty good. I really learned a lot in his class. You can get used to bad hand writing after few sessions. Heavy on e-mails and very helpful if you show you care.
He’s a knowledgeable professor who has real experience in industry. He’s expecting students understand the basics and come prepared for his class. Otherwise, some students may find it difficult to follow his lectures.

He covered a lot of material in a short time, but did it well. The class was extremely interesting. He is very helpful if you ask insightful, intelligent questions.
great professor, you must keep up with his class ...but his class will make you think and help you in your future goals in finance
He will post a lot to read. But if you listen to what he says and keep up with the readings, the exams should not be difficult. The case studies are interesting, but involved. Overall, good class, a lot of work, but in the end, it pays dividends!
Excellent class - very high learn factor. Not easy but very recommendable!
The Professor is very dedicated to his teaching. Takes pains to collect newspaper articles and site them as examples in class. He is very understanding and patient. Desires that the students be well prepared for his class. Posts extensive reading material on the blackboard. Offers an excellent insight into Mergers and Acquisitions.
This is an excellent course but a difficult one. The professor is excellent but you have to do the readings (book/articles posted) before the class otherwise you loose track. Prof. P. always tries to help and explain but you have to do your reading first. I've taken 2 classes with him so far and its been great.
I think this was one of the best classes I've taken. Professor was very helpful and well prepared for every class. He almost always brought new newspaper articles to support his material which made this class much more relevant and interesting. I definitely recommend it.
The class was excellent, truely one of the best I have taken at Baruch. It was mostly based on cases and actual events. There is a lot of reading. I must admit I didn't read more than 10% of it, (a lot of case material, you dont need the book) but if you pay attention to the dicussions in class its easy to learn and understand the material.
If I could choose, I would decide to take the course again but not with this professor.
The class was extremely interesting. The professor is very knowledgeable and you will learn a lot. Note, that the prof. covers a lot of materials and post a lot of readings but if you attend the class he will focus you on the important materials (so you are safe). If it counts for you, he is also very nice person (for me it does).
Nice guy. His tests are odd. He doesn't focus much on technical or math matters. If one criticism its that he spends a lot of time on details that will be pretty useless in life unless you work in m&a.
This Professor knows his subject well and clearly explains it to his students. By no means is he a spoon feeder, he pushes you to learn through readings and case studies. This was both one of the more challenging and rewarding classes taken as part of the MBA program. I recommend this professor and this course to anyone who wants to truly learn.
This is an excellent professor. The material he reviews in class is relevant to the case studies he requires students to write about outside of class. I would recommend him.
I had professor Poniachek for mergers and aquisitions. He exhibited such a genuine passion for the subject and mastery of the material, that in my experience, is unrivaled amongst your colleagues at Baruch.Crystal clear on what he wishes you to know and amazing professor. Do yourself a favor and TAKE HIM, you wont find another better at Baruch.
I took Merger & Aquisition with Prof. Poniachek. The course was great. Professor knows his area very well and keeps his students abreast of the latests in M&A. Course is mostly case based and one gets a good hands-on practice of company valuation, and other key elements of M&A process. Both course and Prof. highly recommended.
Although there is a lot of reading and the case studies are very involved, the professor's enthusiasm for the subject matter and interest in his students makes up for it. In addition, you will learn so much that by the end of the class you really feel that you could valuate a merger between two companies. A highly recommended MBA class to take!
Maybe this class should be required for all MBA students - at least those in finance. It sort of put things all together for me. It was a great class to take the last semester, though there is a fair amount of work and reading.
Great teaching style. Very informative. Teaches in a way that makes the students actually understand and are able to practically apply the material.
Took it during the summer 2008...... my friend and i laughed the whole class, he is funny in a none funny way. Has the worst handwriting ever.... and doesnt teach anything that he test....He gives big curves and makeups
I took International finance this summer. Professor Poniachek did an excellent job explaining clearly in such a short time span advance finance topics such as currency and interest rate futures, options, Eurodollar markets, parity conditions etc. His teaching and professional experience gives students the opportunity to learn above and beyond what
I took Fin4910 over the summer and got an A. I found the prof. to be pretty funny which helps when learning the concepts. Exams weren't hard..he lets you bring a formula sheet and he reviews whats going to be on the exam. Overall if you listen in class and review the assigned problems..you should do very well.
a textbook can provide. For each topic he provided us with supporting documents and examples that uses in class to explain better a topic. He is open to questions and I found him very responsive to out of class communication too.His exams are fair asking questions for topics that he has covered in class. That was a true MBA class! Great professor!
The content is pretty advanced. I had some prior knowledge, even then I had to study hard, partly because of the little duration of the entire semester (1 month). The professor is knowledgable, helpful and eager to take care of the individual needs of the students. If you go through his classes and notes seriously, you will definitely land up in A
This class is interesting, though not an easy one, especially when you take it during the summer. The professor is knowledgeable and always willing to help. His exams are challenging, but he curves. Overall, if you read the book and pay attention in class, you'll be fine.
Tests are curved and makeups are possible. Lot of review. Material is covered slowly but necessary to do some practise questions at home. The newest book is definitely not needed. An older edition will suffice. Humor is used frequently.
Professor is knowledgeable. Read the book and do the exercise and it should be fine. Book is a good read. However, class can be confusing because of content.
Excellent Professor. Every class we talked about current news and topics. Everything was clear in the handouts and in his lessons. If you're passionate about M&A then it's an easy A.
Class discussions started right out of the day's paper. Read the handouts, come to class, skim the book. Fun class, great professor.
He is a very nice person and the class was enjoyable. Everything we learned was also discussed on the examples of current events and it made things clear. 2 group projects, 1 mid-term and a final.Projects are time consuming but fun to do. If you are interested in M&A topic take him- you will learn a lot! Even though class was late- was worth it.
Prof. knows so much! Interesting discussions on today's events. But study a lot to get a good grade: both, handouts and the book. If you present, your grade will be higher, so participate and volunteer to do presentations. Two group cases, so get a good team, because the cases are HARD! the final is cumulative even is it marked as NOT. Good luck!
Read handouts to memorization levels. Smart team selection mandatory. Never really know until on team, but you can tell. Pick wisely or crash/burn! Fun class. Projects biggest pain.
Two case studies and two exams. Not very hard, but definitely annoying. Adds nothing to the class aside from irritation. Many better Finance electives out there.
Extremely knowledgeable, helpful and interesting professor. He ties in real world events out of paper, so be prepared before class & you will learn a lot. Wants you to build professional skills & is very big on presentations, so be sure to do them. He really cares about his students and is always willing to talk about class or your career.

One of the best professors at Baruch! Was looking forward for the classes! Very knowledgeable, a really nice person and approachable. His class is highly engaging, a blend of textbook material, case studies and discussions based on real world scenarios. I am very glad I took this class and I highly recommend it.
A 4000 level professor! Covers current events and applies material to real world. 2 exams, 2 group case studies, and volunteer for presentation. Slides are most important, and you can read up on the book if have time.
avoid! he's out of date and exams weight more than a ton each. if you mess up then you MESS up! very dry and boring for a not so bad subject. take another prof for this class. this one is on the line for retirement soon
I Couldn?t disagree more with the below comment. Professor Poniachek is by far one of the best (if not the best) professors at Baruch. He is extremely knowledgeable, cares about his students, and is hilarious too. He did an excellent job teaching given the accelerated nature of summer class. I highly recommend this professor!

Prof. Poniachek is personable, approachable and knowledgeable. He treats his class like a meeting between financial professionals. You?ll get a basic understanding if you attend class and review his slides. But the discussions and lectures become more interesting if you really challenge yourself to learn the material.
Ok person, approachable before class, but not after or out of class. Assumes a lot of prior knowledge, extremely disorganized with notes and course plan, and he does not follow either, which makes the class un-engaging. Makes simple concepts difficult, terrible handwriting, messed up midterm grading, no one knew what was going on most of the time.
It's not a hard subject. Professor is somewhat boring but he's pretty easy. He also has horrible handwriting. Make sure you sit in the front if you want to learn. The most important thing to have is that study guide. I'd say about 80-90% of his exam questions were from it.
Professor Poniachek is a smart man who knows alot about the finance and has years of work and teaching experience. His handwriting is bad though, and sometimes you will get confused. The exams are very fair though, and he gives a nice curve.
This professor is very knowledgeable of what he teaches and he makes the class fun. Most of all he goes over the notes in a way for you to understand and give lots of examples. If you practice the problems, study his notes and come to class, you can get an A.
The subject itself is very hard but Prof HP was really helpful! His exams are not easy but he curves a lot! NOT an easy A. Have to attend classes, study a lot on your own and make sure you understand the material to do well on his exams.
the professor is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. he is always available out of the class. read the text book, slides and do some problems to get A, not easy but achievable. sometimes handwriting is not clear. that's the only negative feedback. will recommend him for FIN4910. take him during the full semester, because the course is interesting
I was always wondering how he gets such good ratings here while being such an awful professor. Well he emails all his A and A- students asking to give him a good rating on this website. Yep! I know! Other than than he is super boring, unengaging, exams are ok though ridiculous amount of material covered. Would never take him again!
I enjoyed the class a lot. I learned so many different things about International Financial Markets. I knew a few from previous classes but Professor Poniachek provided an in depth understanding of the subject. Leaving this class, I am taking away knowledge that I will retain for years to come. If you like being challenged, take him.
The only thing worse than an awful professor is one that tries to hide the fact. Sad face and thumbs down to balance those fake reviews stemming from his e-mail review requests.
it's easy to complain rather than to accept your own mistakes. if he's so confusing and can't teach, so why a decent number of people got As. maybe, they are geniuses? it's not an easy class, you HAVE to read material before coming to class and after if you don't get it. 25% couldn't finish projects 'cause they're so lazy to read what it's about!
This professor is excellent. Extremely smart and brings forth much practical experience. Exams and material can be very difficult, so you must stay on top of the leasons. Overall, very good class. don't beleive the below comments, just do your work and you will get a good grade.
Prof Poniachek is good. You could learn a lot if you put a lot of effort in it and read the textbook. Not a easy professor and not a easy A. If you just want to boost up your GPA, don't think of it.
Excellent professor! Professor Poniachek makes the M & A lectures fun and interesting. He continuously covers current events so students learn how to apply theory to the real world. Read his pp slides before the class, participate in discussions, and choose a good group for case studies. I highly recommend this class!
He is a very good professor. He starts the class with a daily discussion of the financial news from Wall Street Journal and other major newspapers. He is helpful and very precise with his lectures. I enjoyed the class and learned a lot from him and also got a good grade, what more could I have asked for?
m&a course, I came in with no knowledge and came out with all expected info. very fair exams, 3 case studies are fun, great learning environment.
Great professor! Professor Poniachek covers all aspects of M&A in a way that students can relate to it. He also discusses current events, encourages students to participate, and provides very helpful slides. Put in the work, and you will come out with lots of knowledge and a good grade. This was definitely one of my favorite classes at Baruch!

Overall good class. This class requires you become independent. Make sure to read and learn every single page of the textbook. Don't be passive for this class, but be smart. I got out of this class with full of knowledge.
Prof Harvey is a true expert in the realm of M&A. The course is not easy, but he provides you with the tools necessary to succeed. You complete 3 real world HBS cases, where you implement what he teaches in class and further strengthen your understanding of M&A. Overall, it's a challenging class, you will learn a lot, & Prof Harvey is a great prof.
Prof. Poniachek is genuine and provides you with real life examples in class. Be prepared to not only read the material discussed in class but know about whats happening in the industry. If you have a sense of curiosity and are prepared to work (read/study), you will walk out learning so much!He is one of best professors at Baruch.
Great professor! Class was fun, and there was a guest speaker from Colgate.
No clear guidance, doesn't follow the chapters he assigns, doesn't provide helpful feedback. He knows the subject matter and explains it in a way that makes it difficult. Make sure you read the book. Most of what he gives you is useless including the formulas in class because he doesn't explain what the symbols mean or why you're doing them.
not a good professpr at all!!!...........dont understand howcome all these good comments had come out of students...........he doesnt even answer any question in class........but good luck if u r taking this gentleman!!!
Absolutely HORRIBLE. Many of us were fooled by his good ratings on this site. He is NOT helpful and doesn't teach anything. He reads straight off the notes or textbook and isn't able to answer questions efficiently. He is rude and disrespectful. We were ALL miserable in this class. I would NEVER take him again. Worse grade in graduate school!
Rude and uncaring. Fibal had nothing to do with the material taught in class although the first exam was hard but fair. There are worse professors however that is hardly something to be proud of.
Professor Poniacheck was one of the best professors I have had. He demonstrated a mastery of the material and reviewed many additional examples to assure no one was left behind. He let us know every topic for the exam greatly aiding in our preparation. I enjoyed his teaching so much I am now taking another class he teaches this semester.
M&A class is interesting, despite him. Rude and insulting. Slides and handouts are usually in ALL CAPS, which everyone in the world (but him) knows makes things 10x harder to read, like the material isn't challenging enough. Handwriting is incomprehensible. He's not helpful at all. That said, if you keep up, you might learn a lot, no thanks to him.
I learn a lot from this class. Prof.Poniachek is a good one. Take him.
Professor Poniachek was a great professor. Prior to this class i had no interest in mergers and acquisitions, however after i had more of an interest. I learned alot from this class as well!
M&A is a topic that I was interested in and Prof. Poniachek did an great job discussing the various legal and financial issues in the field while bringing current deals to demonstrate the material in the real world. He is a very fair grader and brings in 3 interesting cases to round out the course (along with a midterm and final); worth taking.
The case studies are very interesting. You learn a lot through it. Professor's lecture notes are important. Invest in the class and it will be more fun.
An engaging class that should be taken by all finance majors. A lot of the complaints are from people who didn't participate and relied on the exams to carry the grade. The different between this class and the others is that there is a bigger emphasis on presentation. If you actually come to class prepared and show it, then you will get that A.
He can't teach at all. We had to study about 600 pages just for the midterm plus articles from HBR and now he says the final will be cumulative..... He doesn't explain projects at all so if your group can't read the professor's mind you'll suffer a lot
If it's true that he is such a great professor, how come only 1 group out of 7 managed to prepare one of the projects??? Don't ever expect any guidelines. All you'll hear: "everything is on BB"
Professor Poniachek, please do us a favor and stop posting positive reviews on yourself... Whom are you trying to fool???
Don't take midterm exam when it's scheduled. Take it a week or 2 weeks later and you will still get the same questions.. That's how lazy your professor is. I guess students know that b/c for some unexplainable reason many students couldn't be in school, on the day of the exam.
The most interesting aspect of this course was the in class discussion of newspaper articles as they pertain to M&A. The course will require a good amount of self-study and the only way you'll extract value is by attending class with a genuine interest in M&A.
Completely useless, both the professor and the content of the course. Reads straight from slides, no help w/ projects. If you don't kiss up to him, your grade will suffer. SHAME!
Professor Poniachek is really helpful. I didn't expected the class would teach me so much about Finance in depth. Though my grade doesn't show how much i learned in class but still i think this is the only class where i honed my finance skills close to perfection. The material and cases assigned by professor would really help in future at work plac
This is the worst professor I have ever taken. He is lazy and unhelpful. Completely useless. He was in class during teachers evaluations to intimidate students not to give him bad reviews. How pathetic?
Very knowledgeable professor in M/A ..If you want to go into investment banking this is the professor to take it with..
Don?t be fooled by the positive reviews on this site. The professor is posting them by himself. I do not know one person in the whole class that had positive experience with him. Waste of time and money. Very frustrating?
There was no student in my class who could say anything positive about this professor. We were miserable, bored. He repeats what was taught in "Financial Decision Making" and "Managerial Finance" classes. The only addition is history of M&A and lame court cases that no one needs. Plus, he picks on people who tend to skip classes
Avoid at all costs. He doesn't teach, just repeats the content of "Financial Dec. Making" and "Manager. Fin". The only addition is history of M&A and useless court cases
This is not an easy class, but if you want to know the nuts and bolts of M&A, I would recommend taking it. At the end of the course you will have enough knowledge to value a company with a certain degree of comfort.
All the students in my class complained he didn't teach. They said they were fooled by his positive reviews on this site. We figured he had written them himself. We had to study about 1800 pages for the final and all that was useless b/c the questions were out of nowhere. Whomever I know got either a B o B-. This class is useless
Not bad
Professor is very knowledgeable.I had no knowledge of international financial markets. He did a good job in explaining the most important concepts clearly. Make sure u attend lectures and participate in class. Book was also very helpful. Unless u really screw up in exams u can expect a good grade.
Take this course only if you're interested and focused. Professor goes fast because there's so much to cover. Pay attention and do the problems. No need to buy the book. Try to derive the models (CIA, PPP, IRP) instead of relying on the cheat sheet. This is a graduate level type course and the Final exam will challenge you. I learned a lot.
This course was my elective, my major is accounting; Yet, I found it very interesting and useful. The professor is really helpful, smart, and sweet. He went over the topics fast because it was a summer course and we didn't have much time to cover everything. Reading the book and doing the assigned HW really helps, it's not easy an easy class. Work!
This is a class that test your survival ability and self determination. You will not learn anything going to class except the case study. If you wanna do well, you gotta study a lot on your own. No doubt he's knowledgable, but some of his talents didn't translate into his teaching/lecture methods. Take at your own risk.
Prof. is knowledgable, however the short/stressed summer semester forced us to go through the materials really quick. Tests aren't easy, read the textbook !
I studied through book and got an "A". I ignored his teaching as he was nothing but confusing. Worst part, after I did well on exams and got an "A" he wrote me an email and begged that I give him a good review here. He also provided me with a link to this website. Simply pathetic. Avoid at all cost, I learnt nothing. Utter waste of time and money.
The course is challenging & interesting. The professor is extremely helpful & knowledgeable. It's not easy & you must follow the textbook readings & assigned problems. There's a lot of material to cover in a short amount of time. You must work. If you need help, approach the professor as he is available & informative. He's a great & fun teacher.
At least 1 thing is expected from a course:great learning or good grades. This guy gave really hard final but didn't teach anything. So no learning, no good grade. Prof claims not much can be covered in summer class. I think he forgets that while setting exam. Guys Stay away. I bet there would be a positive review after this from prof himself :)
Awful professor, final exam that brought a new meaning to "Academic Freedom"... I have dropped him from my next semester because he is so awful...
The professor gave a reasonable midterm exam, but a very tough final exam. If you want to do well, you must study on your own. The professor does not teach the material well and often unnecessarily confuses the students. He's a nice person, but not very good at explanation things. If you have another option, take another professor.
He was probably my worst professor taken during my graduate studies. His midterm was fair and even quite easy. But his final was night and day from the midterm, extremely hard. Covering materials not taught in class. His "lectures" are not much help, since he doesn't really teach the subjects. I would strongly advise to avoid this professor.
Worst finance professor at Baruch. Grades are pre-decided as he is extremely partial towards women. Cannot explain concepts at all. Sends an email to all A and A- students to rate positively on this website. Have learnt nothing out of this class. He gets nasty in class most of the times and has a very blunt sense of humor.
Fine professor - You need to study from the textbook and be able to do all the homework and know the book's major terms.
the guy is useless yet the attendance is mandatory. Grades are very bad as he doesn't teach at all and the tests are simply ridiculous. it's hard to stay awake during his classes
Does not teach ANYTHING AT ALL!
1 midterm, 2 case studies, 1 final. Exams are fair. 40-50 questions, multiple choice/True & False. Also has short answer part for his exam. Nothing too difficult. Read the book, study the slides and you'll do well. Also, pay attention to the case studies. He allows 1 page of notes so use that to your advantage. As a professor, he's not very good.
He is very knowledgeable and experienced in the field of M&A and brings real life examples to class discussions. The class is challenging and you have to prepare several presentations but this is a graduate level course and it is expected. He is ready to help with any questions. Exams are fair. Lecture notes are helpful so is the book.
Very smart man, I really enjoyed his dry sense of humor and discussion in class. His tests are VERY HARD and I did horribly, but he offers many chances to improve your grade. Speak up in class, volunteer for presentations and do well on the cases.
He is the worst professor I have ever had in my life! He does not teach ANYTHING, he is confusing, start talking about something and changes the subject suddenly... He asks questions that nobody understand what he actually wants to know!!! He is the worst ever!!! Also, there are more presentations than actual classes... AVOID HIM!
He is unorganized, and speaks very low, so it is very difficult to understand him. His syllabus is confusing as it requires you to read around 6 different books, and are all very long readings. His slides have grammar mistakes and bc of his vague explanations, you have to teach yourself the material. I did not get anything out of this class sadly
GPA Killer. You want to learn but his handwriting is terrible and you could barely hear him. You're 1 minute late and he will put you on the spot in front of everyone. Doesn't even tell you that the test ar based on cases so you lose 15 points because of this. Class is extremely unorganized, unannounced presentation on news article he assigns AVOID
Absolutely horrible teacher, don't understand how he got this job as a professor.... Please retire or fire this guy ASAP!
He makes M&A very boring. Not very clear and speaks very low. Doesn't take attendance. 2 exams and 2 Harvard case studies. Textbook isn't really required.
Nice guy, but you have to be really into the subject and follow market to participate in class. Two group projects which take forever... Also he is extremely quiet and if you are not in a first raw, presence on the lecture is completely useless.
How this person got to be the professor of anything is beyond me! He's a sexist and partial to women! He makes sexist jokes. He needs to be fired ASAP! Baruch has the worst professors ever.
He really didnt teach us anything, if attendance wasnt mandatory you wouldnt miss out not showing up to class, just print out his notes, understand the cases like unocal and revlon, do the harvard case studies and youll be fine- midterm and final arent so difficult- look over the slides
I think that he is knowledgeable in the field of M&A and teaches the class case by case which is the right way of teaching it. Many students are not interested in the class therefore they dont read anything at all, and when the exams come Harvey is to be blamed. However, he is nice enough to pass a lot of student who cant really pass the class.
I regret not checking this website before taking his class. He is really unorganized and has no idea what he's teaching. Changed his mind often. It's absolutely a class where you learn a lot about how to survive in the real world with an emotional and sexist boss.
Probably the worst professor I've taken at Baruch. He makes fun of students, and is just really bad at teaching. Says certain topics will be covered on exams but puts completely different ones. His lectures are pointless and if you ask a question he will belittle you in front of everyone, and still not answer your question. Avoid.
Hands down the worst professor I've ever come across at Rutgers Business school. This professor needs to be retired, he speaks babble, has the worst handwriting ever, have him recorded saying he grades you on how he likes you. He is very smart but has no teaching capabilities, will call you out for being a minute late, WILL RUIN YOUR GPA
This is a self-study course. The professor is knowledgeable, but can be disorganized and lazy. He has little interest in making the course and lecture slides useful and interesting for students. Make sure to read the textbook and his lecture slides to prepare for exams. Final was much harder than mid-term. Try taking another course if possible.
Be prepared to teach yourself. You will learn nothing, and regret taking this class
Great prof. Very knowledgeable and humorous. Fun class, but u need to read b4 lectures and keep practicing on calculation problems. Although he has accent, bad hand writing, the class itself is not hard. He gives reviews, which are very helpful. Pay attention to reviews. 70% will on the test. Test focus more on calculation.
He grades you based on how much he likes you. He is a horrible teacher. Get ready to teach yourself everything. READ READ READ the textbook. I would not take him again. He is also extremely rude to his students.
Prof. Poniachek was an ok choice at the end. Midterm extremely easy, worth 30%, 3 case studies and a final worth 50%. Final will surprise you because he is not very specific on the prep for it, and he just assumes that you're going to read all the sections of each chapter despite we did not go over them.
Don't take him, he doesn't teach at all! He says problems are from HW in the exam, but they are not. If you get F on the first exam then just drop it, it's not worth it to sit through lectures, for another half of the semester. Take him if you all only if you know basic finance, and get ready to read, a lot! Prof is nice, but his lectures aren't
I took his M&A class in 2014 and was extremely disappointed. His class is unstructured, over 3000 pgs of reading but nothing is covered in class. He talks very quietly and reads WSJ aloud for 30 min in each class. His exams are 100% testbanks with the midterm being easy and final hard. His final has long answer questions. Also is a biased grader.
