Taha takes his notes straight out of the textbook. If you are able to teach yourself and your confident in your abilities the curve will help you out in this class. He's bad at explaining topics so most people do bad on his exams unless you study hard. If you're a audial learner don't take this class. Very monotone. His notes are also disorganized.
Talks monotonously, writes notes the entire class. Want an interesting prof? He's not for you. Want a prof who will give you all the information you need in the notes, posts online problem sets+solutions, and who gives fair quizzes only based on what he taught, he's your man. Attendance isn't mandatory, everything's in the text anyway.
I really enjoy chem but this class was a nightmare for me. He is a nice guy and I would say his tests are fair and based off the textbook/lectures. He gives hints about what is gonna be tested through out the lectures. However he is terrible at explaining any of the concepts. I had to learn entirely through textbook and online resources. Study hard
his notes are amazing. i got easy 80s just by going through his notes however his lectures weren't of much help to me. be prepared to teach yourself some very complex concepts and watch youtube videos on the very same concepts and you'll be good. the only reason i would recommend this prof would be for his notes and problem sets
The reason I hope to be hit by a care every day on the way to university.
Very disorganized and has trouble following through thought processes. Notes are somewhat alright. If you read the book and do the questions you should be fine, in class time is mostly a waste of time.
Takes his notes directly from the textbook but they're not very specific or detailed. However, he does post them online but they're useless. He's a nice guy but probably the worst professor I have at the moment. His lectures are extremely dry and he doesn't really know how to explain concepts so you have to read the textbook to understand things
This man is the perfect university professor. He does not go off topic and he teaches the curriculum exactly as you will see it on the test. If you finish his problem sets, you will be fine. He is very understanding when you talk to him during his office hours. Overall not very interesting, however I am not attending university to have fun.
He gives you absolutely everything you need to succed in the course. Sure, he doesn't delve deep into concepts, but that's because you don't need to know them in great detail. Everything that is on the test is given in the notes or on the problem sets. He isn't all that interesting, but he has his funny moments.
Good professor. Very accessible outside of class and willing to help. If you are unsure about the marking on a quiz or test, ask him and the chances of you getting extra marks are high. Makes lectures interesting through giving obscure examples. Also, he puts up video lectures in order to better understand challenging concepts.
Great prof, Lectures are concise and many examples are done in class. If you miss class don't worry he uploads the notes after each lecture. Make sure to pick up exams, as there is often opportunity to get a few extra marks to bump your grade up.
Best prof I've had. He clearly knows a lot about what he's teaching. He's monotone, so don't take him if you need someone to keep you awake. He is very good at answering questions and very easy to talk to. His tests and quizzes are very fair and only based on what is covered in class. He's a funny guy and clearly wants his students to succeed.
Personally I am not a fan. I found the lectures quite monotone and that he had difficulties answering some students questions. I also had to teach myself the majority of the difficult topics touched on in class; I found that topics were not explained very well or thoroughly.
He gives you all the information you need in class and is well prepared. It's well explained and in a simpler format than textbook material. Tests are fair and he gives a good heads up on what to study specifically. While he does seem to be a bit bland at first, if you give him a chance, he has a fun personality. Not always helpful one on one.
He's sincerely the best professor I've had at this university. He gets a little depressi when people don't answer his questions and he's kinda monotone, but he explains everything to the absolute best of his abilities. He also does two quizzes so the midterm isn't weighted as heavy.
Hes a very caring professor, but his voice is kind of monotone. There are two quizzes and a midterm but if you do the problem sets you should do well.
Great guy, was his first time teaching so he was nervous for the first bit but really caring and really clear on what will be on the test and how to study for it.
At first I was a little bit intimidated because he tends to write fast and but it is easy to get used to and he always posts his notes on eclass! It was his first year teaching a class of 400 but I can see that he definitely improved and got more comfortable within a short amount of time. Overall a great teacher and a great person!
His notes are fantastic, and he makes it very clear what he'll test you on. He has a really monotone voice, but can be hilarious at some times. If you want a prof that makes concepts clear, he's for you. If you want an interesting prof, he's not for you.
If you take his class there will be no surprises on his tests, they are exactly like his problem sets and he makes sure you know what will be on the test. He was nervous at first but then he got comfortable and was an amazing prof. He is a very nice guy and if you don't do well in his course its your own fault.
His lectures were a bit dry and notes were kind of disorganized. However he really only tests on content in his notes so if you study them well you'll be set. The problem sets are also really helpful to do in preparation for the exams and quizzes. He's also really wholesome and cares a lot about his students and wants them to do well!
As a person hes very nice but as a teacher he is not very good at explaining. He wrote out all his notes but they are not super specific so you have to be prepared to teach yourself from the textbook as he doesnt teach concepts well.
He's such a great guy!! You can definitely tell he cares for his students. Sometimes I found his explanations a little bit unclear but his office hours were great and he is not intimidating to approach. The problem sets and class examples were really similar to what is tested. We played jeopardy for one class as review and it was great!
He was a good prof, no outstanding citizen, but he teaches you what you need to know, he is available at office hours and will help you a lot. The textbook isn't needed, but he does refer to it occasionally for diagrams. His notes were fine, told you what you needed to know and were clear. Completely organized, ignore all those ppl hating on them
Great teacher, but a bit monotone during his lectures. notes are posted online but they're usually hard to understand unless you were there during the lecture
Taha is a good choice for a first year class. His notes are posted online, however they are pretty much straight out of the textbook. He's funny in class and office hours are really helpful. His exams are crazy hard for the amount of time given to write them.
He is funny sometimes and posts the notes on eClass (which is a good thing when you've missed a class). The quizzes and midterm exam were fair. As long as you do the problem sets, extra practice questions, and read the textbook, you should be good!
Taha posted his notes online, which is nice for if you miss class, but they're hard to follow along with if you weren't in lecture. I found myself going to his office hours a lot to clarify concepts and ideas. His tests are very similar to the problem sets he gives, so if you understand those you should be fine.
Taha is a great prof! You can tell that he cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He posts his notes online and his quizzes, midterm and final were fair. You'll do well if you do the problem sets and understand them!
This was his first term teaching a big class. He was pretty organized and kept our class on schedule with a few days to review/ ask questions (second last day of lecture we played jeopardy). The practice problems he gives are simular to his exams in terms of questions and dificulty. Great prof for chem, highly recomend.
A really nice guy but is extremely monotone. His notes come straight from the textbook but he explains concepts in a very confusing way. I basically taught myself everything and he was there as review. His problem sets were good and his quizes and exams were based on them but he does throw in some tricky problems to make sure you understand.
Dr. Taha's notes come right from the textbook, and posts his annotated notes online. While his notes seemed confusing, the textbook provided enough clarification to fill in the blanks. His Problem Set questions were representative of practice midterm and exam type questions. He did an excellent job for his first time teaching a large lecture class.
Uploads notes to eClass; they are comprehensive and concise. However, if you don't show up to class his notes can be a bit confusing. He tests what he teaches and his office hours are helpful. He only did one in-class demo but the one that he did was cool. Nice guy who brought us chocolate and made lectures funny sometimes.
Honestly, Taha is a literal angel. His lectures are clear, focused, and easy to understand. Some people find him monotone, but I personally did not find it to be an issue. He is very helpful in his office hours and makes an effort to connect with every student (makes you come pick up your exams to get your grade back). Fair tests.
Had him as well for CHEM 101 and he is a good teacher, sometimes a bit monotone tho
He is amazing. Simple, goes to the fact, and tests what you have learned. What else do you need more?
Worst prof Ive ever had. 2 quizzes (7.5%) 1 midterm (15%) and a final (hardest final ever.) His in class examples are simple and his problem sets are very difficult. His text/exam questions are even HARDER. He only asks application questions. His midterm average was a fail, and after curving it was still a low 50% average. Dont take him.
He is really good. He helps you out if you need help and very accessible outside the class. Forget the haters. If you study the heck out of his problem sets, you will get an A+. Put effort in and you can get it.
Do not take him. He says that if you study the problem sets you will be fine and that is not true. His exams are so difficult. And when the average for the class is so low already, he makes the final super difficult. Do not take him. His exams are the worst. Even if he is nice his exams are deadly.
He is very boring in lecture and monotone. His examples are simple, but the problem sets are very difficult, and the tests more so. Hardest exam I ever took, his average is extremely low (around a 1.8 gpa!) which means most the class is getting a D+. would not recommend.
Try not to take him because you are going to find chem harder than it needs to be. His tests are insanely hard and not reflective of what was taught and class boring and confusing (just teach yourself). He says do the problem sets and class notes and you'll be fine which is an absolute lie. I'm sorry, but no amount of practice can prepare you.
Dr. Taha is a very caring and nice guy, and is very helpful in office hours. His lectures are straightforward and simple but not reflective of exam questions. Problem sets are easier than exam questions; you need to have a very thorough understanding of Chem to do well. I recommend him if you are passionate about Chem and willing to put the work in
I found him to rely heavily on problem examples in class, but it could be difficult to follow; especially when some things seemed to be assumed knowledge. He hand writes his notes and is extremely quick it was hard to keep up and easy to fall behind. His quiz/midterms were fair, but final was extreme. Midterm range: 10-100%. Final? Killer.
Mdterms & quizzes were similar to practice problem sets but final was nothing like the problem sets, it was crazy hard. I think if you do textbook problems along with problem sets rather than just the problem sets which is what I did :(, you can get an A. If you go to his office & show him your test, he'll add marks where the TA's took marks off.
Great prof. Speaks clearly, marks fairly and makes his expectations clear. Course was very content heavy and the tests were quite difficulty. Nevertheless, he's a great all-around professor if you're willing to put in the work.
Genuinely a nice prof and overall great guy. All though his lectures can be a bit dry and monotone at times, he tries to throw in a couple jokes when he can. His exams were also super fair and really similar to the problem sets he gave in class.
As someone who has had Taha twice now (loved him the first time), I feel like he really had an attitude towards his class this semester. When a large section of the class did poorly on the midterm he got really mad at the students rather than evaluating his teaching or test difficulty
Montone but nice. Go to class, he doesn't post notes he writes onto eclass. Didn't use textbook much, his notes are from it. Tests were somewhat similar to problem sets. Regardless, midterm 1,2 are alright, final was KILLER. tested a concept (retrosynthesis) that may not have been included in curriculum on final. died a little inside afterthe final
Exams are brutal and his problem sets don't cover everything expected on the exams. Posts notes online which is nice but he adds a lot during class so it is recommended to show up. He talks very monotone and kind of had an attitude to his class this semester. Meeting him one on one is best to learn a concept and he is very nice and understanding.
Taha has really good notes, simple and easy to understand. He might spend a whole lecture on one page of notes, or he might rush through pages and pages in one class. His exams are hard but the questions are very similar to his problem sets. Practicing mechanisms and synthesis questions is the best ways to study.
lectures were very boring and half the time he didnt even finish the example he was showing the class, learned mostly from the textbook. problem sets were tricky and often the solutions he posted did not help. if you have the chance to take this class with someone else do it
This prof had some of the weirdest grading schemes I've ever seen. Multiple choice answers were graded out of 3 or 4 and the second midterm will lower your grade. Difficult to stay awake during lectures with his monotone and slow speaking. He also went too slow in the first half and rushed through the rest of the material. Do not recommend.
towards the end of the semester, his notes were extremely disorganized and to study from them was a pretty big pain. in general, the second midterm was a killer and honestly i dont know how anyone does o chem at this point
At the start of the semester Taha was really organized and clear with expectations of us with certain concepts. However, around the 2nd midterm I felt that everything was rushed over and not taught in a clear way (the notes were really tough to understand). The exams are hard. This course is tough, but I feel like it could've been alot clearer.
Come prepared to the labs as Dr. Taha will randomly call out names and ask questions about the lab. Like most lab instructors, he appreciates students who are prepared to work independently. He's tough to reach in person outside of class as he teaches at the UofA as well, but responds well to emails. He does care about students success!
Taha's class was so brutally hard that I decided to switch out of my Chem major. He has an arrogant demeanour. His problem sets are super difficult and after even after student them for hours, I would feel somewhat ready for the exam, only to be faced with the HARDEST exam ever. Class content isn't too difficult but his exams are brutal.
This is a very hard course and very difficult to teach. No matter the prof, 263 is 75% your own effort/review. Taha gives you EVERYTHING you need to do well. His tests are difficult but he's generous in marking. Bc of low average you can easily get a high letter grade. Pay attention in lecture, he gives in-class problems that show up on the exam.
Hes super monotoned. Was organized at the beginning the of the semester (handwritten notes) and then he started getting sloppy and switched to using half-blank slides. His problem sets are very hard. His quizzes/exams are even harder. I found his problem sets werent helpful for the exams whatsoever. It was also his first time teaching 102 so idk
His exams are definitely not easy and you have to work for your grade, but as a teacher, he is great! Very clear and comprehendible explanations for reaction mechanisms . It's clear that he's a teaching prof! As long as you do the problem sets, you should be okay.
He is boring through lecture but gets in all the information and provides examples. Problem sets are provided and exams are quite fair.
Dr. Taha is an amazing prof! He makes class very engaging and gives a lot of practice. Chem 101 is a very content heavy course, but if you do the textbook readings and attend lectures (for practice PQ's) you'll do fine! Just make sure to put in the effort and read the textbook before class (it really does help you understand).
Very disrespectful, does not care about his students succeeding. If you ask for help, pray for yourself because he will treat you like you are a pest. His problem sets and lectures cover nothing on the exams so make sure to read the textbook. His lectures are very dry and monotone.
1h30 minute lectures that are dull and he is emotionless. Monotone and he has cough attacks in every single video this sem. He explains concepts way more confusing than they shoudl be, so my advice is to use Melissa Maribel or Organic Chem Prof. His tests are hard and his problem sets aren terribly hard. Basically, to prepare you just pray.
Lectures were monotone and dragged on for way too long. He provides a lot of practice material, but that material is much more complicated than what's in the notes, and somehow still doesn't prepare you enough for the exams. Final Exam took place way too early. At the very least the course was pretty organized.
Dr Taha was my favourite prof this semester. Chem was so easy to understand and study for, the information stuck with me so well. His notes are great, his lectures are a bit monotone but he did reactions and brought models to class. For emails, he responds literally within a hour with a detailed explanation. He made me love chem this year.
Dr Taha is more than willing to help students and make time for them outside of office hours. He is monotone, but every once in a while cracks a smile. He is approachable and truly wants you to succeed. If you do his problem sets and textbook questions you will be set for his exams, which he completely geeked out on and made marvel themed lol
His lectures are too long and monotone. We often didnt finish material and had to catch up on our own time. He also doesnt explain concepts very well, and I found myself lost several times.
He is monotone, but his notes are fantastic. I found his online videos far more useful than his lectures, and luckily he has a video for each lecture within a day. All exams were very reasonable and any lost marks made sense. If you miss or forgot something mid lecture, he will keep speeding through the lecture, so I suggest the videos. Very solid.
Felt like a pest whenever in Prof. Taha's class.
Dr. Taha is very knowledgeable and does a good job at teaching and explaining the material. I wont lie, he can be monotone during lectures but it's not intolerable. I would say his exams are pretty fair and well-rounded. Overall a pretty good prof, definitely wouldn't mind having him as a prof again.
I took AP chemistry in high school, which made this class easy. Taha is okay at explaining concepts but constantly is getting behind in the material. He told us very clearly what was on the final though. Overall, you'll have to learn a lot of the trickier concepts on your own.
A little monotone and boring but the lectures weren't too bad overall. His problem sets were very useful in learning the material. Terrible with time management and left very little time to learn the remaining topics at the end of the term, one of which we had to learn on our own time. The course is bearable if you put in the time.
A pretty good professor, teaches the material effectively and does his job, kind of what is expected from a course like Chem 101. Responds quickly to emails and cares for what he does.
Even though he can be grumpy, Taha is a pretty good prof. His notes are fill-in-the-blank, which I liked, and he recorded them so we could rewatch. His monotone voice made the subjects feel boring, and I felt that he was pretty judge-y towards some questions, but overall he was respectful and his grumpiness was never projected onto students.
Lectures were boring but he explained concepts clearly. There were not many surprises on the midterms and finals. Problem sets are a must if you want to do good in the class since they mimic exam questions. Overall he was a good prof and I would recommend him for chem 101.
I didn't appreciate his grumpiness, but he was decent overall. His tests are fair if you study. His lectures can be confusing and I had to refer to the textbook to understand some concepts. He was helpful in office hours. Watch out for his quizzes, they sneak up on you.
The lecture and slides are very clear and straight to the point. He regularly points out which material will be on the exams. Quizzes and exams are tough but do-able if you do the practice questions and problem sets. Talks very clear but slow
I loved Chemistry in high school and I'm sad to say that this class was partially responsible for my switch out of Science. The tests were very difficult but fair if you spend long hours studying. Unfortunately difficult to reach and didn't respond to emails.
Dr. Taha is an amazing chemistry prof. I find him to be kind and considerate of students. The TAs will rip you apart on exams, but Dr. Taha will find ways to give you part marks if you communicate with him. He is the best prof I have encountered, he is well educated and prepared to teach, not just 'lecture'. He also posts lecture videos on eclass.
I had Dr. Taha for Chem 101 and I liked his teaching style so much I switched into his 102. Very good explanations and goes into examples in depth. Clear/organized notes as well. He is also very quick to reply to emails/concerns. If you keep up with lectures and don't fall behind his class is very manageable.
Taha is a great prof; clear, willing to help, and always can be counted on to give lots of hints about the final. His slides are easily the best of all the lecturers for this course and he posts all lectures online as well. I would look for him as a prof in the future for sure.
He is the definition of an average professor. His tests aren't very hard but his lectures aren't amazing either. If you pay attention and do the practice questions when he tells you to do them you should be fine. His classes are silent and almost awkward. But I swear he reads off a script cause his recorded lectures are almost word for word.
I had Dr. Taha for both Chem 101&102. His notes and lectures are amazing - accessible both in-person and online. His problem sets, practice exams and quizzes are all useful for the final, which is a very fair exam. Dr. Taha is overall an amazing prof and person. I highly recommend him to first-year students as he made university less daunting.
He is fine
Super great prof, very helpful and actually wants his student to succeed. Gave hints about the final if you showed up to the review session. If he can tell that you are trying, he will go out of his way to help you succeed and understand the material.
If you want to study well and ask him questions, he will help you. A very caring instructor. That said, he is monotone and slow in speaking and sometimes I feel like sleepy. But since he has recordings, you can definitely review the lectures in a 1.5X speed if you fall asleep in his class lol
It's very easy to follow him during lecture, he explains the material well. Do the problem sets and review and you'll do fine. Only reason I didn't give him a 5 is because class was boring, and I could swear time traveled slower during class. To be fair, I do find the course material boring, which isn't really Dr. Taha's fault
Great prof, Very good at answering questions and made was always ready to help you, even if it was a dumb question
Monotoned voice puts you to sleep! Dont rec, been trying to find a chem102 class opening and he teaches half of them, NO THANKS. Lectures arent engaging, he reads off the slides and does examples, if thats what you like then go for it, if not stay away. Notes arent good, at most 3 sentences per slide that dont help to develop your understanding.
He is a very good prof, with good lecture notes and study material to succeed in class. The only thing is that I found the lectures boring because I found the topics boring. Overall a good prof
He is a good person however like the other students, his classes where very boring that sometimes/ most times I don't show up to class. If you get bored easily, don't do his class. He usually records his lessons where u can watch it in 2x speed at ur own time. Best not to be behind in his class too.
Taha is not too bad but a lot of times it seemed like he was reading from his notes during his lectures, but his notes are pretty good.
Although he was monotone during class, Dr. Taha was able to explain concepts very clearly. Just rewatch his recorded lectures at 2x speed, and you'll be able to understand everything you need for the course. His tests are very fair, very similar to the questions in his problem sets.
Very rude. Looked me dead in the eyes during an exam with my hand up and looked away. Continued to avoid me for the remainder of the exam.
Had him for both 101 and 261 and his monotone voice can be an issue. I found for 101 he was quite boring but for 261 he a lot more energetic, laughs and engages with the class. He also gives time to work on practice with the people next to you. Overall his style of teaching and his delivery can be dry but is more than sufficient.
Professor Taha is a great ochem prof. He gives clear explanations that tie the content together really nicely. I had him for CHEM 101 and thought he was a bit too businesslike, but he was a lot more fun and energetic when teaching ochem! He makes his test expectations VERY clear and essentially tells the class what each question will be about.
Dr. Taha was my professor for both CHEM 101 and CHEM 261. He explains concepts very clearly and is super helpful during office hours. However, he isn't the most engaging lecturer: the pace of the class can be slow, and his voice can be a little monotonous at times. However, I did find that he was a lot more engaging in CHEM 261 than CHEM 101.
Although he seems daunting at first, Dr. Taha was able to give clear and concise explanations and was always willing to help. Ochem is a difficult subject but his notes and problem sets are great preparation for exams. 1 midterm, 1 final, and 6ish quizzes- all fair and challenging! I would definitely recommend him to anyone!
Taha was a pretty good professor however, I found myself heavily relying on youtube throughout this course as the information and the way he taught just wasn't enough. The weekly quizzes sucked (questions were hard and little time was given)!!
Taha was an awesome prof for ochem. He goes into the "why" of concepts, instead of just barraging us with info. This helped us get a very good foundation for ochem courses, especially with reactions. Although the quizzes are hard, the exams are reasonable. Highly recommend this prof for this class.
He taught very well. He explained the concepts clearly and was caring to his students. His problem sets and quizzes were good preparation materials for the exams.
Professor Taha was an excellent prof. His quizzes were great because he has only one midterm. The quizzes are challenging but if you study you will do well. His lectures were very straight forward for the first half of the semester. The second half definitely requires more reading to understand but overall he is a great prof.
Dr. Taha is one of the best profs I've had. His lectures are very clear and his notes are extremely helpful. Before tests, he goes through and tells you the topic of each question. He holds tons of office hours and workshops and really wants you to understand the material.
This was my first class with Dr. Taha, and although some of the reviews scared me, do not let this deter you from taking chem 261 with him. Ochem is a difficult topic, and Taha's skeleton notes, lectures, and problem sets prepared us for anything he threw at us. Exam expectations were given clearly, and he held regular office hours for everyone.
His lecture content may be a bit hard to follow at times, so the student will have to spend additional time digesting and reviewing content covered in lecture. Take his problem sets and get familiar with the concepts they're asking for, with a particular attention to the "wording" on the answer key, those will become critical on the midterm/final.
Very good. He streams every lecture if you want to sleep in, he posts every lecture online, he explains things very clearly, and he seems to actually care about the content. I find the recorded lectures to be especially helpful. I rewatch them before the midterms and it has helped a ton. I highly recommend professor Taha.
Tests very heavy and loves to test on theory. Very arrogant when trying to ask questions prior to or after class.
Dude did review sessions while sick. Gives great lectures and is very clear. Always helps the class understand the subject or topic better if struggling. Very accessible. Taha is probably my favourite prof in first year. If you get him, congrats. Pay attention and this course is a very easy pass
coolest chem prof out there. he is funny and very good at explaining topics
Yes his voice is monotonous but if you can get over that he's a good instructor. Chem 101 can be challenging, but he explains concepts pretty well. Offered weekly workshops to go over practice problems and for exam review (dropped some hints as well). Pace of the course was rushed at times, especially near the end. Exams were difficult but fair.
His voice is monotone, and some of the first assignments about the syllabus are kinda BS, but after that, he's an amazing prof. Lots of practice, lots of office hours that he's available, he'll cover examples in class, and he gives us a key for answers with solutions on midterms so you can actually see what you did wrong. Love him to death
Overall, Dr. Taha is a great professor. He wants you to succeed and his lectures are clear and the notes are concise. Many students complain that he is monotonous, but I dont find it a problem.
As furious as I was by the end of the course, it's honestly just because I suck at chem. Taha was incredibly caring and went out of his way to set up extra help sessions for his students to ensure we were all set. My only advice for taking his classes is to really do your readings - sometimes there's questions that lecture notes wont help with.
Dr. Taha is a great prof and friendly, down-to-earth guy. He gives you everything you need to succeed, including problem sets, extra practice lessons, and lectures are available online (live and recorded). Worth noting though that annotated notes are not provided, so attending/viewing lectures is crucial.
Just follow his notes and problem sets for exams. When you miss your classes, you can always view his recorded lecture. Great prof. and exams are at moderate difficulty
I had Dr Taha for 261 in the winter 2023 semester and he was honestly amazing. He made organic chemistry so easy to grasp which helped a lot in Ochem 2 and Biochem. The only downside is that he was a little "too good" as averages were really high (over 80% on the midterm). Super helpful in person and really informative lecture notes.
amazing prof who really wants his students to succeed. to do good in his class, read the textbook (not absolutely needed, but very helpful), attend lectures, do quizzes and problem sets and you'll be fine. his exams are an exact reflection of what's in the problem sets and quizzes (mainly problem sets, and in my opinion were easier too).
He is an okay prof. The way he taught some concepts was confusing for me, mainly in regards to orbitals and hybridization which are concepts I already knew well going in to this course and proceeded to struggle with. Definitely try to pay attention where you can and do some self-teaching if you have the same struggle as me.
Excellent prof. Was able to make the lectures interesting and engaging. Encourages and welcomes any and all questions that you might have. Just be warned that he doesn't post his annotated notes, only a video recording of the lecture, so it's a good idea to attend the lecture in person, or at the very least join the zoom meeting.
Best prof!!! He records lectures which I found really helpful and hosts amazing review sessions. He was always willing to help. His problem sets are also super useful.
Be prepared to do a lot of self-teaching and don't miss lectures or you won't have a clue what's going on.
Taha was a very boring teacher. He always sounds like he doesn't want to be there all the time. He also did not explain calculation steps very well and poorly explains theory. I think it would help if he sounded more enthusiastic about the course or his job rather than yapping for an hour.
The only positive thing I can say about Dr. Taha's class is the fact that he posts video recordings of his lectures, other than that get ready for very boring monotone lectures. He is also not a very approachable guy if you have any questions. He is definitely very knowledgeable on the material he teaches, he just does not explain things well.
Best prof for Chem 103/105 just stick to his lecture notes and the problem sets and you'll def get at least an A-. If a guy like me was able to get a B- then you'll can easily get an A if you have him as your prof.
Awesome prof. Don't let the negative reviews scare you away, he's honestly amazing and super nice and approachable toward the students who actually care. Teaches ochem super clearly and is so helpful in office hours. I recommend him for sure!
His lectures were well organized and concise and he explains ideas and topics very well. Didn't do too well in the class but that was because I honestly stopped trying near the end of the semester but that's more on me. Dunno what other people are saying about him lol
Taha's CHEM101 is a solid course - he's engaging, records lectures, and provides helpful problem sets. Textbook isn't required, but engaging with Unstuck AI and the course materials is key to success.
A tough class but professor explains it well. Even though I almost fell asleep on every single lecture due to his monotonic voice I'm looking forward to having him next semester for Chem 105
Was a very good teacher who seems to have a good understanding and puts effort into his slides. Not a fan of him in lectures because he speaks so calmly that I fell asleep during the morning lectures. Was able to help quite a bit, offered good material for studying, overall a great prof that I would take again.
I heard a few people complaining about his monotonic voice but I personally wasn't bothered all that much. He is great at teaching the course and has long office hours.
Very monotone lectures. He always seems like he's in a bad mood. I had to fight to keep myself awake during lectures, they were not engaging at all.
Very nicely organized + easy-to-understand lectures! He really wants his students to succeed and does plenty of office hours and review sessions. And the results show - both his CHEM 103 sections this fall performed the best!
I can't lie, this guy is a decent teacher. His lectures have all the information that you need for the course, but they are SO boring. He always looks miserable and in a bad mood. He also made feel stupid once at an office hour but I think that is just him being in a bad mood. If you don't mind monotone lectures, then he is a good prof.
Easy to follow along, posts lectures online and also streams his lectures live on Zoom. He answers every question (even the stupid ones) respectfully.
I love this man! Genuinely one of the best profs I've had. Although his lectures can get boring, they're usually rather short and he is a always ahead of the other profs because he doesn't overcomplicate things or dive into irrelevant topics. Outside of lectures he's also a great guy who's always down to talk and answer questions.
I love this man and his class. I love how clearly he explains what is happening in the question and how concise he keeps the content, allowing us to leave early a lot of the time. I might be biased cuz I like chem, but he is genuinely a great prof and very accessible too which I appreciate, not as good as Arthur Mar my GOAT tho ;)
Don't waste your time—never consider taking this course with this professor. It was the hardest midterm I've ever had in my life.
If you are going to take a spring Organic Chemistry TAKE THIS GUY. Make no mistake organic chemistry is a hard course, and it is even harder in the Spring because of time management. But his lectures are very straight to the point and clear, no fluff or tangents. DO Attend lectures, DO the homework, ask questions and you can actually get a easy A+.
Overall, a good prof; his lectures were quite bland, but they provided all the information you needed to do well in the class. His tests were fair, but the final was much harder than the midterm (I think that's just how the class is designed). I would for sure recommend you take this prof
He explains concepts very well and does a lot of great practice. If you show up, pay attention and do the problem sets you'll do well. Only downside is his lectures are a bit boring
His lectures were really monotone and boring but he covers all the material needed for exams. You can join his lecture online through zoom and he posts recordings within couple of days. If you stick to his notes, you will have no problem with this course
Such a great prof. You would be doing a disservice to yourself by not attending his lectures. He breaks down organic chemistry concepts in great detail and focuses on theory, which makes everything much easier to understand. He helped me understand concepts I've been struggling with since high school. Very respectful towards students.
Super nice prof its just his lack of enthusiasm makes you want to fall asleep
He had a very easy-to-follow lecture and an amazing lecture. I did not feel bored in his class at all. He is the GOAT!!!
I don't get people who dislike this professor. Yes, his lectures are heavy, but that's because the courses themselves have a lot of content. He condenses it into a easily understandable and concise form. He has a good sense of humor in some of his examples, and it feels like he genuinely tries to help his students.
He gives analogies, simplifies concepts well. Really helpful in office hours. Really long lines for office hours though, especially after exam season. However he doesn't post annotated lecture slides, so you need to read the textbook or watch his 90min recorded zoom lectures. Tests are challenging but reasonable for the content covered.
He's the GOAT. His lectures are short but always ahead of other professors'. Some say he's monotone, but I don't feel like that, his lectures are quite interesting. He explains things clearly and covers everything you need. His notes are organized and include enough info for exams.
He gives good explanations and speaks clearly, but his monotone voice puts you to sleep. Fair difficulty level for midterm/final, everything tested is in the notes, although the notes are heavy. Overall mid lecturer.
Overall a great guy. Good lecturer, great at uploading lecture videos.
Dr. Taha is low-key goated at preparing you for both midterms and the final. If you pay attention during the lectures, he will answer half of the questions asked in the exam and explain them well. The only problem I have with this fella is that his lectures are mega boring and it is so hard to pay attention, so good luck on that and you'll be fine.
