ehhhhhh he's not horrible but he isn't very engaging or sympathetic to the students that need him to move a little slower.
It really depends on if you are good at math or not. This guy is so freaking easy. His tests are MUCH easier than Shi's or Mosh's AND his final was a piece of cake, with many questions off the review he gave us. If you are an idiot, you might think he's hard...
I took him for Cal 1A and 1B. So I know him pretty well. His test is easy as long as you understand what he teaches. Sometimes his lecture seems different from the book, but actually it's the same. To be honest, he doesn't know how to explain stuff (always mess up). So, take him means you should get a tutor. easy A though
Is one of the worst teachers I have ever had, this guy DOESNT give partial credit. He is SOOO UNORGANIZED, his lectures don't follow the book and the quizzes aren't even from the homework. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS
He is the WORST teacher i hv ever met!!!!!he cant teach!!!!! veryveryvery unorganized !!!! if u want to make urself stupid, take him and kiss ur A then say goodbye~
once attracted boz of his high rating but the fact is not.1deduct mark without rationales 2grading is not proportional to the grade, one mark less may loss an A 3cant make himself understood, even mix up north south west and east.4 offer u extra credit when u get full mark5 my mark is deducted but other is not with the same mistakes6i can teach him
i dont mind taking an B if i my professor is a reasonable grader. For Bourgoub,i do mind.i know the stuff,i am not a stupid,i have no idea with his grading.i feel angry getting a B from him
No extra credit. Unfair grading. unclear question in test and not related to the lecture note and hw. A mistake in your test=No "A". If you only want to pass the class, you can try it. But Avoid him if you want a "A"
Very Bad explanation. Dont give us the correct calculation of the homework. Dont take his class. You will learn nothing
Had to drop after a couple weeks, hes friggen rediculous. I couldnt learn at all from him, the HW was scattered & unclear. Did not show you how to do anything, its a 2 hr class & the biggest waste of time & money. try & avoid him. Worst prof ive had so far at De Anza, and i usually can get over it if i dont like a teacher, but w/ him i could not.
Not applicable to one who pursuits FAIRNESS . Also, this guy is EXTREMELY disorganized. DONT TAKE HIM!
i feel regret for not scrutinizing this professor before, and the high rating is actually misleading
this guy is totally disorganized. A trash bin is best fit for him. He bounced around the chapters and hv no idea what he is teaching. His presentation on the blackboard is not reliable. He will deduct your mark if u follow
If you take him you will learn nothing. Even he doesnt know what he is doing. He dont know his stuff! AVOID HIM
horrible teacher! He is not helpful at all! do not take his class.
This guy is totally disorgainized!. What he declared at the first lesson, will not hold. Not fair to some students who drop him. This shows that his working style is freakingly bad!
He dont know his stuff. He always forget what he is talking about and what he had told us before. Avoid him, if you can.
A lot of the comments are true. He can get disorganized and cluttered but the bottom line: His tests are easy! If you don't understand his lectures get a tutor and study from the book. I'm just saying this class is an easy A if you make some effort. He is pretty nice in his office hour, but not any more clear when explaining something LOL
He is totally disorganized! How can he teach Maths!? Also, i dont listen to my frd's advice to drop him because he is too easy. But later i know it is an illusion, he has easy tests, but weird and ridiculous way of grading
Well, true that he's not a really organised instructor, but his tests are hell of easy. 7 quiz, drop 2,(10x5)3 tests, drop 1,(50x2) homework(50), final (100)=300. He also gives like 10pt extra credit for an easy assignment and 5 points in finals. I get an Ace with a score above 300.He rele worths an above 4.0 easiness, but for Helpfulness.maybe 2.0
hell of easy!!! I got an Ace with a score above the full mark since he gives lots of extra credit...but disorganised.. He definitely worths a 5.0 easiness, but for helpfulness, 2.0 or 3.0 maybe
Yes, this professor is hell of easy ........ to lose grade. Learn nothing and earn nothing. He prosponed the exam for an hour because he made the paper at final day, he said he forgot the final day. Sorry for those who have 2 consecutive exams in a day. Be careful! i know good advice is always unpleasant to ears
Those who gets an A belongs to the minority. More often, those at the B margin are ignored, sometimes they are suffered because of the low quality of professor. Those who gets A of coz they supoort the professor, but not the majority
He's a nice teacher, don't just teach straight out of textbook, he explains stuff through his own way. If you do homework and concentrate on in-class lectures, its an easy A :)
Tons of Homework! I think there is hope when he gives exercise the day before the test. But it turns out to be in vain! Nth related to hw and test!and unclear questions, many classmates got trapped!
He is not organized and he gets off topic very easily, The whole quarter I thought I had at most a D, but I received a B. Which is pretty good considering I taught myself from the book because he is to hard to understand!
this teacher is very DISORGANIZED, i have no interest to attend his class from the beginning... he does not explain the concept!! he just went through the materials by doing some problems... thats it
It is a teacher who always doesn't prepare his class well. The lecture is mess up totally. It is also not easy to get a high grade because u don't know the format of his requirement. It is awkward. Please hard work otherwise u shouldn't take his class. Terrible!!
I would not recommend this guy to ANYONE. He is probably one of the WORST math teachers at DeAnza. I never had a hard time with math until I had this guy. His test is ridiculously HARD. Don't expect any ONE easy problem. They are all lengthy and worth about 8 pts each. Each test bsically has 7 questions max and worth 100 pts. You get the idea.
My first B in math. He does teach well, but expects you to know everything. His test problems are made in a way that puts all chapters we've covered together, so he expects you to know everything about the chapters. Imagine the assigned homework, only in much more depth, in a way that we never even thought of. He does try in class, though.
Overall, great teacher. The class is made up of 3 50 point tests, 50 points worth of hw, and 50 points worth of quizzes. you get to drop one of the 5 sets of 50. only 5 quizzes count, if there are more you choose which go towards your grade. final is worth 100 points. attendance is kinda mandatory. Overall, take this guy, he's pretty dam good
I would spend hours everyday upon hours reviewing my notes, doing homework problems, only to come to a test and the questions were completely physics questions(2nd exam)... The class average was 40% he said his tests were pre-curved. Avoid this lunatic, nearly impossible to get an A in his class.
very good professor
He likes to explain concepts and lecture a lot. Weekly quizzes and yes, his grading is somewhat harsh..sometimes you don't understand his partial credit. If you ask questions he helps, but overall, need to be an independent learner and learn the material really well because hisquiz/exams are comprehensive and he likes to play with the problems..
OMG... I used to love Maths very much, and had never had an A- even in Maths classes, until I took Bourgoub's class. Don't take him if you still want to have some interest in Maths. He's harsh, speaking unclear English, and grades your tests and quizzes based on feelings. Totally waste of time.
Is everyone kidding? Mr. B. is so nice and his lectures are clear. His tests are fair. It's calculus. If you expect to do no work and get by easily, you shouldn't be taking this class. Keep up with your homework and listen to his lectures. I enjoyed his class and got an A.
This is a class u gotta work for ur grade. Sometimes yea he is hard to understand with his accent. He sometimes starts with 1 thing & changes it mid way. So pay attention! He does give time to do hmwk in class. Use it! Ask ?s to him & tutor. Hes not mean, likes to crack jokes. If ur lookin 2 slide by, don't take this class.
This prof is great! His lectures are well organized and explains it really well. The test he assigned were extremely easy because they were right out of the book.
Nice guy
WARNING! ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS! If you want to actually learn math and succeed as a student DO NOT take math with this professor. He will pass u even if u r failing (and trust me, his very poor teaching skills/style make this a very real possibility) and u will have to keep taking his classes to get passed through (not all the way)or have to audit
Godawful. In every way imaginable. His exams have mistakes that confuse the students.Does very little that comes close to qualifying as teaching.
He's a bit unorganized, but other than that he's a good prof. He tries his best to teach you, and if you go to him outside of class he is very helpful. His quizzes and exams and very easy, straight from the homework. He sometimes gives extra credit too. Just stay on top of your work and it should be no problem. He's really nice too.
Wow. Can I give this man a 0? Easily one of De Anza's worst instructors. I can't believe he hasn't been purged with the buget cuts. Fellow students, do your best to add someone else's section of this course. If you can't, wait until the next quarter. You'd have to repeat 212 again anyway.I want to help you out :)!
He tries to improvise in his lessons, but most of the time he gets stuck and won't be able to finish a problem. Hard to follow him in class. He is sloppy and unorganized. He assigns homework which is actually good b/c it boosts your grade. Tests are medium in difficulty. One positive thing is he is very enthusiastic about teaching.
Horrible teacher, his lecture was very unclear and confused me a lot. i tried to do all the homework and still can not doing well on the test....don't take his class if you want to save ur GPA
You'd think that this guy's exams are pretty easy since they were straight from the hw. I don't know what it was like for other classes, but his final was a lot harder than all of his midterms for some reason and it killed my GPA. There's nothing special with this guy. He's like any other De Anza math professor...
I went to class maybe 30% of the time. His lectures are pretty much useless and confused me even more. HW is on webassign which was really helpful since there are practice probs with solutions for you. I just studied the example probs in the text and did the homework. His quizzes and midterms are straight from hw so doing hw really helps. Got a B+.
Worst teacher i think i have ever had. When he explains things it takes like 30 minutes and its a waste of time anyway because no one can understand him. The only thing I will give him credit for is being nice. Don't take him if you want to pass the class.
I am currently taking his Calculus class, and I don't know why he is getting such bad reviews. Calculus is hard, quit crying. I have had plenty of math professors, and believe me, he is not bad. Uses Web Assign, but personally I like it. His tests so far have all been fair. Does make simple mistakes when doing problems, but who doesn't? Take him
His grading scale seems easy because u get to drop the lowest test and 2 lowest quizzes but the class is hard. I took calc in hs and am still having some trouble. He is always in office hours though and he loves teaching. He is also very funny because he makes stupid comments when lecturing. Hw is on webassign which is pretty easy. Hes not that bad
His lectures are not consistent, sometimes it's clear, sometimes not. But he's willing to answer questions when you don't understand. Also, he does a lot of small mistakes that usually students can catch when doing problems on board. His exams are not that hard, if you study well from his lecture. And usually what he reviews is on the exam!
Bourgoub is a really helpful teacher, he'll always do his best to answer your questions in class and in office hours. Tests and quizzes are straight off homework, so now you guys know what to study for. Very generous grader, lets you drop 2 quizzes and a test. I think its an easy A. Just study off your homework.
His lectures aren't really organized and it's also a bit hard to comprehend, but I really don't care about it. He's a really nice teacher and laid back, so it somewhat makes up his faults as a professor. He would also probably be willing to help you, I just never really asked him for help so I don't have a say on his "helpfulness"
He's a nice teacher but his lectures are very unorganized and hard to understand. He provides practice quizzes on his website but he does not give us the solution, which makes it difficult to know if your answers are correct.
he understands the subject, but usually does silly calculation mistakes that would confuse you during lecture. his grading is quite hard IMO, although he allows you to drop either the quizzes or midterm score. the homeworks assigned helped me more than his lectures. his lectures are generally boring because he has difficulties in explaining.
For students who struggle with math, take him. he goes slow and doesn't overwhelm you with information. he's pretty funny at times.i like his style of teaching; he doesn't want his students to memorize math or blindly do things. He wants us to understand it and really think about it. quite an easy class.
His quiz and test are so hard. He seldom answer your question directly and not helpful at all. His lecture was nightmare, he always make silly mistake and the best way to learn in this class is to study the book by yourself and do your homework. The best part of this class is that we have a lab class per week. Don't recommend this class
Lectures are unorganized and confusing. He makes a lot of small mathematical errors. However, he doesn't overwhelm students with hw. And is willing to help students if you come to his office hours. I do not recommend his class if you can not self-teach your self math. Otherwise, great teacher! really wants his students to do well!
Mr. B is awesome! His class is easy if you just listen. He explains very well and is a really nice guy. He's also funny.
For people who want to memorize formulas and get an A, good luck. You will, most likely, not do well, C at best. And if this is what you've done thus far, I suggest changing majors as you will probably be a terrible engineer. Hassan is a great TEACHER. If you want to LEARN, take D.E.s with him.
This prof. isn't a bad guy, he's just not the best teacher. I Found myself having a hard time staying awake, he didnt follow the schedule at all, he was very unorganized, made it really unclear of what he expected from you. He would barely use the book only for webassign but all of the test and quizzes he would make up. really confusing class.
His lectures are unclear and he always makes mistakes on the board. Try learn the material yourself by reading the textbook carefully. His exams are easy if you did so. There will be always take-home quizzes and group work which makes it easy to earn an A.
I had to a double take when I saw my final grade online I thought I was not doing well. but I'm beyond happy that I passed Pre Algebra on to the next chapter. Mr B. at times he is not patient when you don't understand something the best thing to do is to study the problems in the book and jot down some notes.
He is very confusing and you hav e to self teach everything. Getting an A- in this class is pretty class. You have to do good on all the tests and quizzes which are pretty hard.So whoever is taking this class. be ready to study a lot before the tests.
Not very clear, messes up a lot. Also not very fair. On one test, he set up the problem for one student and the others were left to do it on their own. Easy points for that kid.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR GPA. this profesor sucks at teaching and his tests are veryy hard . If you do good at everything the best you can get is a B+ . good luck with teaching yourself everything before the tests because he sucks at teaching.
Mr. B is a great teacher. Some of what he teaches is unclear so sometimes it's best to go to the book & see how the book does it & teach yourself. Homework is easy if you understand how to do the math. If you really want to learn I would suggest doing the hw by writing it NEATLY on paper and working out the problems step by step (helps you study).
This professor's horrible. He never fails to confuse you in the class. His tests are way harder than the homework and exercise he lectures. He simply makes me lose all my interest in mathematics
Does not explain clearly, and only repeats himself when asked for clarification. Contradicts himself. Writes homework and test reviews that are full of errors rendering unsolvable. Unhelpful when you ask for assistance. Single worst professor I have had the misfortune of having at this school. Avoid at all costs.
I would give a Zero rating if i could. This does not know how to teach Maths. He gives all the theory in class barely does any examples to help us explain the material. Plus his tests are extremely hard. I mean if he cant teach good then what gives him the right for giving hard quizzes. Just be ready to study by yourself.
web assign is very helpful if you want to pass this class.just study the examples and you will receive a good grade on the exam.he does not check the final answer he checks the process of how you got to it.great class for those with other commitments.
He sucks. never reply email. I am not saying he is hard, but he doesn't know how to teach at all. he gave us an assignment before the exam and he wants us to hand in the assignment on the exam day. Also, all of the questions on the assignment are new topics and he "didn't" teach any of them! don't take his class even if you really need this class.
He makes too many easy little mistakes that propagate into a huge mess to make it seem like he knows what he's doing. Doesn't answer his emails. Disorganized, contradicts himself often and doesn't admit easily to his ridiculously often-made mistakes. Textbook is useless as well. However, he is flexible with webassign extensions (ask in person)
Took him for MATH 43 over the Summer. He isn't a terrible professor nor is he an amazing one. He was alright. Nice guy. Pretty straight forward but tends to lose some of your papers, but I believe it's because he handles A LOT of classes. He's not bad at all
An okay guy. He emphasizes a lot on showing all the steps. He's a bit disorganized as he doesnt always tell us the deadlines and don't stick to the book when teaching. But you'll be fine if you care to ask and hand in WebAssign homework and worksheets on time. Mid-terms and quizzes are sometime challenging, but the final is a super easy MCQ paper.
Not the best teacher, but he's not too bad. One of the few teachers who WANT YOU TO PASS. I took Math 1A & 1D with him, got a B in both (my fault). The class is easy because he uses Web Assign when he can. Talk to him, he'll try to help out. He's kind of a pushover, but he's a nice guy. You'll learn more from the book than from lectures though.
Took him for 42&43.He can be really confusing during class and go off into talking about things irrelevant to the subject. His tests/quizzes are based on web assign and the hw handouts he makes you print out and turn in. He's a nice guy and passionate about math; I just found him confusing at times and not as helpful to others who were struggling.
He's an okay teacher. Just do your homework(webassign and worksheets) be prepared for test every other Friday and you should do good. he does mix his words up but once somebody says something he will correct himself.
This instructor seems less interested in teaching to the students and less caring for students who are struggling in his teaching methods.
Doesn't help out the students. If asked for clarification he will simply tell you go look in the book. The book is the better professor in a sense but if you learn with examples and explanation you will find no help from him. Lack of examples make homework and web assign difficult. However questions from homework are the same in quizzes. Bad prof.
Not good. Goes over lectures too fast. Harsh grader on homework and tests and loses your homework.
Hi is all right not that bad, he is a nice guy. He tends to go over the lecture fast and his tests are a bit hard. He give EC to students if they are struggling in the class. If your looking for a good teacher he might be your guy..
He doesn't explain well in class and some of his teaching materials are harder than they should be. The hw is easy but be sure to put down every single step, otherwise he may count you wrong; he is not a lenient grader. Just do your best if you are taking him this quarter.
Math 1C is a very difficult class but Hassan makes it doable. Just do your homework, read the book before class and try to teach yourself the materials. His tests are based off the homework so be prepared. His grading scale is very high but it's not that hard to get an A.
I ended up with A, but that's the result of self-teaching. If you can self-teach, and get the material correctly, it's an easy A since his tests are really simple, but if you rely on the teacher, he's definitely not for you, confusing, unorganized. But he's fun guy to talk to, especially about soccer.
I usually never rate my professors, but he is just so terrible. He is extremely confusing and often over complicates simple things. He also changes due dates to make them due the next day instead of a week later, so be sure to always check. Caught me off guard the first time and I had to cram. Also very unorganized and forgetful. My worst class yet
If you take his class, textbook would be your best friend. You would learn more from the book than from him. For the whole quarter, I barely had any idea about what he taught. Fortunately, I learnt about the materials when I was home (international student), so I survived. But he does have passion for maths.
He's one of the best professor I encountered in de Anza. Not only that he's friendly he's very helpful in assisting his students. Just complete the homework and attend classes everyday, his class is an easy A (: cheers peeps!
I like the fact that he assigns written work. HW due dates are sporadic and not organized. He's lenient with late work. His lectures are really robotic and sometimes confusing. Do the worksheets and WebAssign HW well and thoroughly and you will pass with B and above.
He forces you to turn in half of your homework via WebAssign, an online service (that you must pay $45 for) that will not always give you full credit for correct answers. He's one of those teachers that just writes on a projector and vaguely explains what's going on all class. Avoid him if you can.
He doesn't explain clearly and you would have to self-study to understand everything. Requires you to pay to use WebAssign, an online tool to do assignments that grades automatically, and spends a day of class every week in the lab to do that. Wouldn't recommend him if you do not have extra hours to self-study and finish his assignments.
I have tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, but he just doesn't do his job well. He told us he doesn't prepare for class, and that has been very clear all quarter. He is disorganized and often makes multiple mistakes while going over problems in class. He is always saying how easy it is, while not explaining it clearly enough to understand.
Not really a tough grader. Tests based on the assignments. Participation doesn't matter. He is great but if you are not a self-learner, I wouldnt recommend him. Though he is friendly and helpful, pretty amazing!
doesn't explain very well
He's alright. Generally a nice guy. If you can self-teach or learned the material previously, you can get an A. If his entire class is struggling he does what he can in order to have people pass such as test retakes. He does lose assignments so keep it with you and check up on him often with what youre missing. He grades weird, but I managed.
Yes he is hard to follow in lectures, but if you put in decent effort his tests are so much easier than other Math teachers. Easiest tests and its not even close. tf for a math test? How can u pass that up
Too much unimportant assignments. He knows math but he can't explain clearly probably because his lack of speaking abilities. Do not take his class, ever!
don't take his class he doesn't know how to teach he get confused of the things he say . you need to learn by yourself , the book he choose is soooo boring its all reading in a statistic class . just find a different teacher
His lectures are bad. Too often he introduces a new concept without any example. Once he summarized a whole chapter before starting it, using the terms and formulas we have not learnt about. His quiz and tests are not hard to do, but his grading is tough: he needs clear and complete explanation for how you get the answer. Office hours helps a lot
WORST teacher ever, avoid him
don't even look at his rates just don't take his class........ he can't teach he don't know what is he doing he try to explain something with the calculator but he don't know how to do it just don't take him its waste of money he need to get fired and i need to get my money back
He doesn't know what he was teaching, not helping at all. Prepare to read because you won't learn anything from his lecture. Unclear guidelines, assigns a lot of work and doesn't accept late work(but he doesn't announce deadlines). Always lose students' assignments and quizzes and blame others on it. Overall a bad professor but he is nice.
Bourgoub, the chalk eater, this guys is kinda nasty. After he wrote something in the chalkboard he will lick his own hand which are full of chalk. Yuck!!!. He loves to make mistakes, even in the final he makes an mcq problem without any right choices. He never told the assignment due date so be careful, today might be the due date of your HW.
Really confusing grade calculation, you need to make sure and remind professor several time to reset your grade, because of his missing part. His language is also limited.
Extremely poor lecturer. He's a nice guy & quite passionate about math, but he simply cannot convey the material to his students. Be prepared to self-learn. Knowing how to do all the problems on the written assignments is your best bet to getting a good grade in this class. If you struggle with math, I would not recommend taking his class.
He's an easy grader that I've ever seen. And yes he assigned a lot of homework (online and paper), but that really helpful. I got an A and I would take him again.
Hes a really nice guy and his tests are usually like the webassign work, but hes not good at teaching actual material. I learned everything from webassign. He often goes off-topic and makes so many mistakes on the board that its distracting, confusing, and wastes a lot of time. Know your homework problems really well & you'll be fine.
Nice guy but tough to keep up in his class. Worksheets due regularly on top of webassign, which is unusual this high up in math. His lectures are hard to understand, if you don't work daily outside of class you won't do well. As a math major I like to go at my own pace and just be ready for tests but he demands you go at his pace. Not my cup of tea
He's an okay teacher. If you just listen to his lectures, then you will get it. However, he's a bit disorganized, and you won't know when things are due. So if you like organized teachers, don't take him. His tests are not that hard, it's usually one part multiple choice and second part written. If you did the homework and webassign, you will pass.
He is a really nice guy and he'll always help you when you ask for it. There is lots of homework but they are really easy and each one only has a few questions. At some points it just gets really confusing and you can't understand what he's trying to say. I had to learn by myself from the book a few times but he's still good. I woud take him again.
If you're willing to self-teach yourself and go to the tutoring center, then take him. If you're going to depend entirely on his teaching then enjoy that C. He makes calc harder than it has to be.
Lectures are quite confusing, he spends most of the time drawing 3D graphs and mumbles to himself a lot. Doesn't tell you when HW (both web assign &written) is due, so he can randomly ask you to turn it in one day, but you're not done with it. Tests were hard. Lots of questions for a 50 minute class. Not the easiest grader.
Really nice guy buy his lectures are unclear and he often makes mistakes. He gives some extra credit and grading's relatively easy but be prepared to self learn
Assigns small online webassign hk + his weekly hand written worksheet.. Quiz every 2-3 weeks based on hk, but he grades hard. His 3 exam + finals are hard. Consist of 10 multiple choice and rest are free response. My exam grades i got 86%, 65, 60. At end he give +4-6 % to total grade at end cuz ppl were failing. Mininum grade is 65% to pass class
The time of tests are usually very tight and it's difficult to finish them within 50 min although they're not very hard. But he always makes so MANY MISTAKES in tests and never changes them! His lectures are totally in a MESS. CANNOT figure out which chapter he is talking abt in classes. So u need to spend a lot of time after classes teach yourself!
Although he's a kind person and accepts late HW, but his lectures are very terrible and WITHOUT any logic. He always makes a lot of MISTAKES in class! And what's worse is that he keeps changing the due date of HW on WebAssign AT RANDOM and NEVER tells you an exact date to hand out paper HW. Anyway, I'd rather not have a class than take him again!
Don't take his class. It is super hard. He doesn't teach.
I had Bourgoub for 1A and hes class is VERY straight forward. If you can do the homework and the webassign problems then youre in the right spot for his tests. I feel like he has the right approach where he doesnt assume you learned everything in highschool. I learned mostly through webassign and videos but I appreciate his easy-ish tests.
He's not as bad as the rating looks like. To be honest, he often makes mistake in calculating but he's willing to explain any questions. He doesn't instruct by monotone, which makes the class not boring. His quizzes are uncomplicated and you can drop one lowest quiz so don't worry if you take his class, you're on right track.
It was difficult to understand his lectures. Homework consisted of online work and homework sheets that had to be turned in at the end of the week. Nothing was ever clear to me no matter how hard i tried. He is very good at math but not too sure about his ability to teach it. Find a different professor.
Kind of disorganized. His way of teaching was really confusing, honestly. Had to watch videos on YouTube to get through his class. He occasionally makes mistakes when he shows us examples.
Not the greatest. Good guy, but lectures are very confusing. Basically have to teach yourself. Lots of worksheets due throughout the quarter, grade in class is somewhat arbitrary. Very disorganized. Just go to class every day so he gets to know you which should push your grade in the right direction. I'd look elsewhere if possible
He's a decent professor that makes many calculation errors. Overall, the class was easy, and the homework load wasn't that large. I simply failed because of certain problems I was dealing with in life. He isn't too bad of a teacher. He often goes off on tangents, and can be unclear with his lectures. Read the textbook. Do webassign.
Extremely disorganized lectures; hard to follow and even harder to learn in class. When I asked him to clarify, his answer confused me even more, and I'm good at math. Its really disappointing, he obviously knows math but he is not a good educator. If you have no other option but to take his class, change your grading to pass/no pass.
Not a bad teacher, he does make some mistakes during examples but teaches everything else and is pretty clear. Also he gives you one day a week to go to the lab and do homework and to ask him questions. Do all the homework and assignments and you should pass
The lectures were not very useful but his grading criteria is very straight forward and tests are not hard (almost identical to webassign problems). I would recommend listening to lectures just to get the gist of the concepts and then studying primarily through webassign. Take if you like learning from webassign or are good at memorizing problems.
Bourgoub's class was focused more on WebAssign. Doesn't ever really go over topics with the class, just tells the class that there's a lesson online that needs to be completed. He's there if you need help but you're pretty much all on your own, so dont take him if you have a lot of trouble with math. Super easy quizzes and tests though!
Change grade to pass/not pass Horrible teacher, lectures made no sense Made many mistakes in lectures, and was not clear Calculus is hard enough, but with a bad professor, it is almost impossible
He's a nice guy but he can't teach. I only learned stuff through WebAssign and his example problems, since he's very unclear when explaining concepts. Also seems like he comes in unprepared every day to lecture, so that just puts the burden on the students. Not the worst professor I've had, but he makes the subject harder than it needs to be.
If you could learn by yourself, you could take his class. If you could check the Webassign(he will let you regist that web.)every day! I mean EVERYDAY! Otherwise he might changes some homework-due-time self-willed, and you never know He's test almost 20-30 question and that's all Multiple Choice. Good luck if you just have 1hour to finish all.
Lectures were not clear. You basically have to teach yourself. At times he came late to class, and the class fell behind schedule. If you take his class, be prepared to study on your own, as it will be difficult to learn in class.
He was an overall decent professor. He would help with problems when asked, give clear instructions, and the class was structured well. Only problem is he seemed disorganized sometimes and not prepared to teach. A solid teacher.
He's very scatterbrained during his lecture so you don't learn anything. The only upside is that his tests are fairly easy. If you can do the webassign and the worksheets then you should be okay for the tests. Teach yourself, do the homework, and try to learn the lesson before the lecture that way the lecture itself will make more sense. Good luck!
He's a decent teacher if you're well versed with a math background and can selfstudy the material. If this is not you, then don't take him. When he lectures, he will overcomplicate the lesson that it should be and goes by pretty fast.
Pros: Multiple choice exams, attendance is not mandatory, gives you lots of material to study off of, curves grades. Con: Lectures are very scattered. If you can teach yourself the material and keep up with the homework you'll do fine. DONT fall behind and attendance isnt required but I think he curves slightly based of attendance.
Very DISORGANIZED and IRRESPONIBLE teacher, but nice guy to talk with. I got an A, but only because of my good knowledge in math(not because of him at all!!.) I fell bad for those students who has no previous knowledge in math...
I took his class not knowing what I was getting myself into. Math is my hardest subject and I had no understanding with his teaching concept. He wasn't helpful at all. It's pretty much a self taught class. I would not recommend him even if he was the only professor teaching. Look else where. You have been warned.
Teacher is very confusing and scattered. Lectures don't relate much to the work we do for homework or tests. Basically if you can't teach yourself, you wont pass. Easily one of the worst math teachers I had in De Anza. I spent all quarter looking at calc lectures on youtube (recommend Proff Leonard, hes awesome). Pros are; easy test and quizzes.
before final, I have a grade of A, however, after it my grade became B+ each chapter has one written assignment and one online assignment. these are easy points 3 quizzes are not that hard, but midterm and final are horrible for mid, 20 multiple choices in an hour for final, 33 multiple choices in 2 hours you will never finish them
I had him for both 41 and 1B. It's completely self study. Do all the homework, but the material is hard to completely understand self studying. You have to try really, really hard. But the class is easy to pass, hard to get a good grade in. If you want an A, you would have to put in A LOT of effort. Don't expect to learn much from lectures.
His multiple choice exams that are a fifth of your grade are suprisingly long and difficult. I scored much better on FRQ quizzes that are worth fifteen percent. Homework is nearly half of your grade. And about 30 percent is webassign so there is a bit of grade inflation. He likes to explain with pictures but I can never understand what he says.
By the 2nd week, only 10 people were left in this class. He is a terrible lecturer and often goes on tangents in the middle of an example. The text he required was confusing and had terrible examples and doing hw is a nightmare. He basically answers all the worksheets in class, and quizzes/exams are similar to these worksheets. DON'T TAKE BOUGOURB.
Avoid this class at all costs. He's just an awful professor and doesn't know how to teach classes. He tends to involve physics and outside problems alot when he's teaching and makes alot of mistakes while he teaches. Hard tests and quizzes, the only easy part is homework. I had to drop his summer class because he was teaching it as if it was Calc1D
Took him for summer, was the worst. His Webassign HW isn't relevant to his test/quizzes besides SOME of the definitions, he's unresponsive to emails, makes changes without emailing students and drones on during his lectures about completely unrelated things. Definitely a self-study class, IF you can figure out what to study. Wouldn't recommend him.
I hate webassign worst thing ever made
Assigns homework on WebAssign, though tedious helps your grade at the end. Does lack communication skills for classroom/assignment changes so be on your toes. Lectures are pretty basic, but he is very knowledgeable so ask questions and he'll further elaborate/explain. Does many sample problems and practice exams. Solid professor, just do the work
Good Professor teaches well and gives h.w, tests and quizzes towards grade.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. HE MAKES TOO MANY MISTAKES.
Knowledgeable teacher but not a good teacher.. Doesn't reply to emails and very unclear about the syllabus and what's expected. Tests are hard and very little leeway in how you work it out. If he doesn't like your working out even if you have the correct answer it will still be wrong. Do not recommend.
He doesnt even teach you he just make you go online in a textbook that you have to pay 80$ for and make you sit there and do homework.
The homework is worth double the amount of quizzes even though quizzes are harder than the tests in my opinion. Make sure you have a good graphing calculator(Ti-nspire), it will be SO handy on the tests. He makes a lot of mistakes in his lectures. Mostly a self-study class as the only thing will teach math clearly is web-assign videos.
Friendly and approachable in class, but is not responsive to emails. He's a very knowledgeable teacher, but goes on off-topic rants during class that confuses students and makes a lot of mistakes. If you can self study, this class isn't that hard. Otherwise, just avoid him.
Tests are multiple choice and copy pasted from a webassign review sheet. Lectures are vague and do not correlate nor strengthen understanding of concepts from the textbook. Often lectures off-topic curriculum. Quizzes are also copy pasted from webassign however are short answer. Partial credit is non-existent. Homework represents most of your grade
Great professor. Do the work get the grade. If you have trouble go to his office hours he is always happy to help. Can be a self teach class, but just read the text book ask questions, you will pass.
Right now, into the 4th week of the quarter. Just took the first midterm today, and unless they're going to get difficult, the exam was pretty easy. He copies and pastes problems from the chapter/section practice quizzes generated by webassign with exception of changing up the constants. Not bad so far.
Update from 5/1. Still not bad. 2 quizzes and 2 exams in and no word problem as quiz/exam questions. Mostly arithmetic math. Grade before last quiz, exam, and final: High B/low A. Hw is a free 120/120 points if you do it (out of 400 course total). Disclaimer: I failed 1C twice with F's. I don't think I'm being bias bc I'm learning new things still
I don't care what people say in their reviews. His lectures are all over the place, he will spend 10 minutes trying to figure out his own work. He hardly tell you what sections he's teaching, bringa forward test dates (my last midterm went from Friday to Thursday before finals) and extend the material on tests by the day. HE IS THE WORST!
He takes no effort in preparing his lectures and does not put in any effort into teaching you any material. You will come to his class to sit through a scattered lecture of formulas straight from the book. If you want to learn math, DON'T TAKE HIM. BUT- He gives easier quizzes and midterms at the expense of you having to self-study for all of it.
Last update from 6/17. Just took the final. All MCQ. 70% of the probs. you'd find from your assign's/exams. 120pts HW, 120pts M/C midterms, 60 pts quizzes, 100pt M/C final 400pts total. Overall, not the best at teaching, but if you're able to self study & capable of doing hw probs repeatedly, you can get >B without showing up to class.
His class average AFTER finals is an 80%. He's not hard. Yes his teaching is terrible... meaning you'll likely have to be good at self teaching in order to do well. But his exams and quizzes are based off his WA hw. He even said in class his exams were generated from WA. Study your hw, do the WA practice quizzes, and you'll do well.
Homework and test were okay, but lecture was terrible. You have to good at self-studying to have a good grade. Tests and quizzes are base on homework. And he never responses my emails, he lost my test and automatically gave me an 0 on it even though I took 3 classes of his already. Keep an eye on your grade if you take his class.
I think the biggest problem with Professor Bourgoub is having a monotonic soft voice. It is very difficult to focus on what is been explained. Other than that, his homework, quiz, and exams are just fine.
I had taken Math 1A and 1B at a UC and took math 1C over the summer. I had difficulty taking his tests mostly because his lectures were not centered around the test material. Additionally, his test are multiple choice which I found difficult. If you made an arithmetic mistake you could not prove you understood the material. Overall he was ok.
I think he's okay as long as you are good at self-studying. However, if you aren't, I never recommend this professor. Professor is genius, but because he's a genius, he tries to teach more than what the course requires. It won't be on the test, but you'll have hard time understanding it if you depend on the lectures.
Horrible one! Unorganized lecture. Could NOT explain himself. Lecture only focuses on proving, won't do examples. He only focuses on the result when grading - exams are MC. Written quizzes need to show work, but if you get the wrong answer, you lose all pts. Exams are not similar to web assign as he said. He is literally the worst! DONT TAKE HIM!
This is brutal. If you are trying to balance other classes on top of this one, you will absolutely not be able to do well in them and this one at the same time. Lecture really does a pitiful job of conveying something to you for the first time or even a second time. Self study is a challenge in itself with the amount of WA hw to be done. Steer away
Unorganized and careless professor. I am wondering if he is working for webassign because his test problems are from webassign with some values changed. He always makes mistakes on tests and he won't return the test back so that you can't confront him about the mistakes he made. Can't believe he is still teaching and ruining students.
This guy gives 20 questions on an exam for a class that is ONLY 50minutes long. EACH question takes an average of 4 mins and if you do the math, it just doesn't add up. I barely managed to finish half the questions and start guessing the rest....
He proves rather than solve examples. He's disorganized and gets carried away and makes mistakes while solving. You have to self-study(watch Prof Leonard on YT). But, to be fair, his class is easy. The quizzes/tests are almost an exact copy of the worksheets/WebAssign hw(study everything before a quiz. He may tell you the wrong chapters to study!).
Bourgoub is not nearly as bad as some people make him out to be, although I wouldn't call him an easy pass. He goes over concepts in class and is pretty specific, although his tests are harder than what he teaches. If you read the textbook and do his print-out HW, then you'll be ready for the quizzes. The tests are the same as webassign problems.
I got an A in 1A because my last prof actually taught. Bourgoub ATTEMPTS to teach, but half of the class just ends up sitting in the back of the class doing homework. Lectures make no sense, he pushes up homework without telling us, and blames us if we score badly on tests as if that's not a representation of how he's teaching.
Pros: Somewhat easy exams if you grind assigned problems. Cons: Bad lecturer (doesn't explain concepts well, very disorganised) Horrible communicator. Will ignore half your emails. Doesn't care about you. (I go to his office hours often and participate in class, and he always forgets who I am) No curve. (94 for an A)
Take this class only if you are willing to teach yourself everything. He seems to just say what he is writing on paper and thats it. No explanation. You can pass his class but you will have to learn and do EVERYTHING on your own. He will not respond to your emails. Is not willing to communicate with students and solve issues. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
Take this class if you are ready to prepare and learn by yourself. He's just lazy, and I had a hard time understanding what he said. He won't ever respond to any emails. He never solved any issues and is never willing to communicate with students. Grinding doesn't mean that it is a guarantee for A- Good luck my fellow comrades...
Just self-learn. Lectures are basically useless as he just writes down what's in the textbook and does not explain so you can understand. Very difficult to communicate with him as he never replies to emails. Quizzes and tests have similar questions from the homework but there is an insane number of questions and is very difficult to finish on time.
Welcome to Bourgoub's class where the exam is on all content that's not covered in class or even on the curriculum. The highest grade for the exam was a C-. The average was a failing grade. Do not take this guy I don't know how he still has a job with all the complaints against him. He does not respond to emails or care about anyone in the class.
If you want to take a class that you'll be left confused by the lectures, where the professor doesn't respond to any of your emails, or a class where your concerns go completely unaddressed, then Hassan Bourgoub's class is perfect for you! The average on his first exam was a stellar 60%! Save yourself a headache and take 2B with MK or Hansen.
Worst professor ever. My transfer was cancelled because of him. Never replies email when online homework having technical difficulties and straights away grades an F. Have been an A student all year long and really worst teacher. Wouldnt help you even when you are in dire need.
Worst professor I ever had. Super unpleasant to talk to. This professor failed half of the classes. His lectures are so bad you are better off without them. He makes so many mistakes which makes me think he doesn't know the material himself. Worst professor at De Anza, stay away! Please don't take him. You have been warned.
He is a very good professor! I guarantee you all the people who are saying he is bad, simply do not study at all, and get mad when they do bad. His tests are directly from the homework, and are very easy. He curves if they are too hard. I would recommend him to anyone!
The professor is so incompetent that he constantly enters your grades incorrectly. If you skip any of his lectures you're screwed because he doesn't post the notes online. He can't teach. Does not respond to emails/canvas for grading errors. Tests and quizzes are unreasonably timed. Not all students are treated equally. Don't take him ever.
This was by far the most frustrating class I have ever taken. Now I can't speak for his class in person, but as far as online he does not know how to use the internet. Every test or quiz there would always be a problem and there isn't any use emailing him because by the time he responds it will be too late. Lectures are pretty useless also.
He does not reply to emails. Very bad at explaining things. Does lots of mistakes. No extras credit at all. Very disorganized. The only good thing I got from Bourgoub is he allows you to extend your WebAssign.
His grading is often nonsensical. Best bet is to study everything in the textbook and assignments. If you can self study, should be OK, but if you want to listen to a lecturer, his class is a joke.
My worst decision coming from the pandemic. Called himself an amateur programmer but has absolutely made each and every quiz and test a mishap while also not responding to emails (yes, even during the finals). Complains about his work more than he teaches and makes mistakes more than a corrects them.
Absolute miserable experience with this man, be warned. I have never had a teacher that cared so little and did nothing to help his students. Don't bother with his lectures, they're a waste of time. To pass this class, just do the webassigns and teach yourself the material. Please look for another professor, Bourgoub will never reply to you.
Yes, he's not a great professor. And you should self-study for exams. But basically he gave 300 pt from HW out of 600 pt total. HW and exams were easy, except for the first one. He answered most of the questions while his office hour at Zoom.
He keeps the lecture interesting relating the materials to real life problems. Uses technology well, incorporating textbook, webassign, zoom and etc seamlessly. His writings are clear and you can actually understand what he says. I believe many bad reviews are from bad students. If you want to learn math and move to higher level, I recommend him
Completely unreachable outside of class, horrible lectures and overall a worst-case scenario. Even if he is the only option, I would not take him. By far the worst professor on campus.
Homeworks and tests are on WebAssign, quizzes are on canvas. His lectures are hard to follow, so prepare to self-study. The tests and quizzes are not proctored, however, tests require a lockdown browser. He doesn't seem to respond to emails, but you can find him in-office hours. Overall, the work isn't too difficult and a class chat is helpful.
his class is like listening to a 100 year old. its so frustrating. I dont understand how or why this person works in education. Easy grader but seriously so bad you learn more from a ten minute video on youtube than his two hour lectures
Honestly many of the ratings here are not a good representation of him. I think Professor Bourgoub makes a lot of effort to try and make sure all of his students understand the material, and even though his lectures can sometimes be unclear or he makes mistakes, he is human after all and if you ask him about it he is more than happy to answer you.
Cons: Thick accent sometimes hard to understand, slow/kinda boring lectures, takes 2 days to respond to emails, kinda bad with tech. Pros: explains everything in detail, teaches the thinking behind concepts intuitively, he will make sure you understand concepts if you ask him questions, works through the ENTIRETY of examples, easy tests & A.
Tests and homework are done on webassign. Quizzes are on canvas. Webassign you get 2-3 tries per question, but canvas is one try only. Quiz/Test are all based on webassign hw, so just study that and you'll get an A.
Never responds to emails, lectures are completely useless. Do not take this professor even if its easier, you will end up learning nothing and failing higher math classes because you won't have a strong foundation.
His projector lags 24/7 so paying attention to lectures is impossible. Math 1D is already hard, but he makes it worse by not teaching anything. I much rather suggest taking another teacher that you can actually learn from.
He told the class that he is giving 2 free response questions but made it 3. And only gave us 30 mins to complete these problems with multiple parts. In class, he was arguing with a student about not giving more time to upload work. In general, this is a self study class and you won't learn much from him. Very inaccessible outside of class.
I needed to take this class to apply to graduate school. He's one of the better professor at De Anza. He knows his stuff. He will teach you the tools you need to survive the next level. If you don't care about learning and just want an easy grade then I don't recommend taking him. Also, much appreciated all the TI-84 tips and tricks
Homework is on webassign, tests/quizzes are either on canvas or webassign, depending on his mood. Class is self-study. He does not respond to emails, so only time you can contact him is during class lol.. I'd recommend a different professor. The TA in the class was really nice and helpful. Ash was a bit rude at times. Below-average experience.
Lecture materials are over the place. Instructions are unclear. His office hours are completely inaccesible and never respond to my email despite he still send out emails to the class. I felt ignored and seems like De Anza never really care about their education quality, btw I havent heard this professor receiving any course evaluation.
I would not take his class if I were you. You learn nothing at all in his lectures and you have to teach everything to yourself. His tests used to be on WebAssign and now are on Canvas. But his Canvas tests are awful. There are typos in nearly every question, many with no correct answer at all and correct answers are marked incorrect.
Do not take him. Period. Lectures were extremely disorganized and confusing. He does not respond to emails whatsoever. Both exams and quizzes were awfully challenging and instructions are always unclear. Prior to taking this class, I read that it was do-able if you just self-study, this is a lie due to the amount of material you have to learn.
I took Math 1C and 1D with Professor Bourgoub and had no issue with his grading criteria. Even though, he switched from Webassign to Canvas for test 3 and final for 1D, the final was pretty simple if you self-study. I would say it's doable if you can do webassign hw and maintain your grade throughout the quarter.
Literally the worst. Please don't take his class if you care about your GPA. A few people did well on tests and exams but overall, the class average was around 80%. Final was 17 questions long and 2 hours. Differential equations is hard enough and 17 questions was way too long. His quizzes and tests are really bad and he is a bad professor
33 QUESTION FINAL IS ABSURD. 3 MINS PER QUESTION IS IMPOSSIBLE.
This professor assigned us 33 problems in 120 minutes. That is approximately about 3.63 minutes per question. A normal linear algebra problems takes at least 7-10 minutes to complete. Please avoid this class if you really care about your GPA. Unless you are some math god, then this class is for you.
Only take this class if you can self-study. Lectures are long and hard to understand. Tests are longer than usual and unless you really get the materials then it is really hard to finish on time. 33 questions on a linear algebra final
He tries to teach in lecture, but it's mostly self study. Exams are from homework or he makes his own questions if he decides to do the exam on canvas. 33 questions with multiple parts for final under 2 hours.
Took Bourgoub before Covid-19, so keep in mind some things may change. Bourgoub is probably easiest math A at de anza if you do/study the homework. When I took him, all test/quiz problems are directly from (relatively easy) online/written homeworks he provides. Attend all lectures for ec, but beware that his lectures are extraordinarily bad.
malded over a student cheating and ended up writing literally impossible tests with faulty images, no correct answers, and questions that had not been covered in lecture yet. He also started the final exam 30 minutes earlier than scheduled without warning.
Probably one of the worst professors at De Anza. Youd probably learn more by teaching yourself. Cannot even make a test correctly, way too many mistakes. You will never not be stressing about his class. When you think you know what he's talking about, you don't. Take this class with any other professor! AVOID THIS PROFESSOR LIKE THE PLAGUE.
He refuses to tell students how many questions will be on the test, claiming that people may cheat using that information. Also, he randomly changed the curriculum of the course in the middle of the first meeting. He also did not provide an option for correct answers on a multiple choice quiz. Overall, he is a problematic mess. Avoid him.
Hassan isn't that difficult, his quiz/exams are pretty easy as long as you studied. The problem is he cannot teach for jack shiet. I've had pretty bad professors but my god this dude is a natural at being unable to teach for shiet. Only take this dude if: 1. you can self study 2. want easier exams 3. if theres no better option.
Worst professor I ever had in my life. He does not teach correctly and his time limits are insane. I personally studied for an exam and still failed with the horrible questions he chose. He does not want you to pass the way he is teaching and even with heavy studying it's so hard to even try for that C.
Avoid at all costs. His exams had incorrect questions ALL QUARTER which just waste your little exam time only for him to admit that the answer was not in the options. You get the points back for the question but it is not worth the time spent. He can't even write a coherent test so there's no way to show that you know the material. Little exam time
AVOID! I've never hated a class so bad. Very unorganized. Tests are easy but there are too many questions. final is 33 questions in 2 hours. Sometimes he messed up with the correct answers so double-check if you see something wrong. Office hour is usually full of people. I deeply regret taking him. He turned my last quarter into a nightmare.
Horrible professor. useless lectures.
Please don't take him. I know you need might need the class, I know you might not have a choice. But please try your best to avoid. He's really, really bad. Any ray of hope you get by reading the few comments that say he's okay, please don't believe it. Beg another teacher to take you. This class could ruin every chance of transferring. Seriously.
Just terrible. Quizzes and tests are covered with typos and errors, sometimes not even possible to solve. Twice he has added problems on an exam from a later chapter, we've haven't covered. If you dare to take this professor don't go to class, self-study and hope for a A/B. Often marks correct problems as incorrect, expect to fight for your grade.
Just save yourself the trouble. His class drains motivation to do math with his lectures. You learn by teaching yourself through webassign. His test/quizzes aren't difficult just formatted very poorly along with his homework. I dislike this class because I wasn't motivated to learn math especially through his lectures.
Yo, don't take this class even if this is your only choice. THIS IS A SELF-STUDY CLASS. He breezes through his notes so fast that many can't keep up. Don't expect to learn anything from him. Unorganized when it comes to homework, quizzes, and exams. Expects us to do well when he can't even teach the concepts correctly. You'll get a bad grade here.
ALL of the due dates were never set. They would be set on one day then moved. Even for the final exam he said the final was supposed to be on dec 6 at 1:45pm-3:45pm, it ended up being dec @ 9:15am-11:15 am. This is a HEAVY self study class. Dont take him if you're expecting a teacher. Take him if youre good at self studying/webassign.
Lecture was difficult to follow. Additional purchase of online platform necessary. Self study and Google carried me. Due dates are a joke. Exams and homework are set to be on or before content taught. Final exam was messed up and postponed due to similar mistakes. Nice person, answers question until you understand, but don't recommend at all.
Like many other reviews, he messes up quiz/test answers often. He is reachable outside of class through Canvas Inbox, he responded really quickly there. Most problems are based on Webassign HW but some questions were really out of left field. Final was a compilation of previous test questions, and is curved. I would never take him again though.
Where to start. Self study, ignore the lectures, and good luck on tests. So many errors on all written assignments it's crazy. I wish he would actually try to solve the problems he "designs" for his tests as many are impossible or are more difficult due to the randomly generated numbers throws in. You'll need to fight for your grade constantly. GL
I took him during Spring 2021. He doesn't respond and/or slow in responding to emails. Overall, he's fine and easy going. Multiple HW assignments a week, but midterms and final were easy; final exam was exactly like HW except with different numbers. He made my quarter easy! :)
His notes are crazy unorganized. He said he'd record his lectures so you can watch them on your own time but he didn't. He rambles rather than actually teaching. He said there'd only be 2 sections on the first quiz, yet there were 3. He grades super harshly because he thinks everyone is cheating. Don't take his class. Dropped the second week :/
First Off, I want to say that I've taken this course in highschool and struggled a ton here. Mostly self studied for this quarter. Notes are fast and disorganized and extremely confusing. Quizzes are ok. Attendance isn't mandatory but asks everyone to type in chat. If you've never taken 1b, DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES TAKE BOURGOUB,
Pros: flexiblish, chill, hw pretty light Cons: mistakes all the time(test questions & lecture prblms), very confusing, lecture notes very messy, Very speedy notes(ur a rare breed if u aren't lagging during lecture & understand what he's doing) MUST self study: (YT: Org. Chem. tutor) Pick ANYONE BUT Bourgoub
Ok look, ik everybody says he's really bad, but the truth is...he's not the worst. He's extremely chill and understanding. He'll accept emails abt test attachments. The thing is, it's a lot of self study because his notes are confusing. Make sure to call him out on hid mistakes ASAP(on notes, quizzes, tests and grades). Hw is p light
Took this class winter quarter 2022. Lectures were not the best, so self learning is the best to pass the class. Was clear what was going to be on the tests and quizzes but the learning from the lectures were not sufficient to get good grades on either.
Please avoid Hassan at all costs. His exams are nothing like homework and he promised us that is similar to Webassign homework. I was literally crying throughout the entire quarter. His assigned homework makes me mentally draining. I have been constantly living in fear with no doubt. Do not take him even if it is your last quarter to transfer.
Pros Extremely accessible outside class. He holds office hours every day except Friday. Fairly easy quiz&exam. 90% questions are similar to WebassignHW. 20% free credit for each quiz/exam(a MCQ with only one option to choose). Cons He might mess up the MC questions testbank so there is no correct answer. You have to ask him to give credit back.
This class is set up for you to pass, not to get a high grade. Based on 3 quizzes, 3 tests, homework, and final. His quizzes and tests are based on homework. He's accessible though canvas mail. Mistakes can happen, just email him to check the question. Every point counts. Mainly self taught. Overall chill professor. Quiz and test MC, with 2 or 3 FR
His lectures are not good, if you want to understand half of what he's saying I suggest you self-study or have a good knowledge of algebra and trig already. I struggled greatly because his lectures made absolutely no sense. He will response if you message on Canvas, no student emails. He's nice as a person, but as a professor, he could improve.
I took him for MATH 1C and 2A and received over a 98% on both courses, so I may be slightly biased on my rating. You need to work fast -- really fast. If you're weak at background material building up to the course, you'd better start reviewing. Overall kind person, but lectures could be improved. An A is anything over 94% and every point matters.
Self-learning course. His lecture were so bad. However, the test were really easy. In the test, even if making some small mistakes, or skipping something, you still have a chance of getting a high grade. He would not make things difficult for the test grade. As long as you master maybe 60% of the homework, you will be good.
His class is fast-paced so be ready before class. He is available after class if you have any question. Overall, he is a good professor to take! Good luck!
OK, he was a good person, but a terrible lecturer. If this is your first time taking Calculus, let me tell you one thing. You're not gonna learn anything from him. You need to have a base of basic calculus stuff before being in the class cuz he can't teach it. I passed this class by self-studying with Professor Leanord on youtube. Do not take him.
Unfortunately, I had very hard time understanding the professor. Attendance is mandatory, all work is "on paper", even HW is returned in written form. Lack of online resources like Webassign didn't work for me. I love their explanation videos and examples.Unclear grading criteria.
His overall class structure was brutal. His quizzes and exams are much more difficult than the problems in the textbook (even the challenge problems), and there are a lot of typos in his tests. I would recommend avoiding this teacher overall.
Very conceptually heavy teacher. He is a harsh grader, any minor mistake will basically knock off about half credit from a test question. Formats questions unclearly/confusingly and will not help you out if you ask him for clarification. You will probably learn more by taking him, but it could be at the expense of your GPA. He is challenging.
Not sure why there's so many bad reviews. Professor Bourgoub is a fantastic professor. The lectures are clear and is helpful when you ask questions. It definitely can be challenging if you cannot put the time into it, but with enough time and effort anyone can be successful in this class.
The lecture consistently goes over, and doesnt really relate to anything or explain much. He always says for more complete lectures go to canvas so why have a zoom at all?? It's mostly a self-study course, and the exams often deviate from the content covered in the textbook.
Everything was done on Pearson and it was generally a boring, easy class. His lectures were hard to follow and pay attention to, so barely anyone attended. It's basically an easy B class as long as you do the homework. Exams were heavily based off hw, but were full of mistakes. Would recommend for anyone who doesn't reeeeally need the knowledge.
My most important advice to anyone who is going to take this class is don't trust him, he is always wrong, you just have to trust yourself and tell him he is wrong. This is really annoying.
not recommended, the test is tooooo hard even if it is online.
not recommended. too hard exam
DO NOT NOT NOT NOT TAKE HIM!!!!
I took this class without researching the professor, big mistake. Professor Bourgoub was all over the place, and not only were the students confused, he also seemed disoriented at times. He is extremely unclear about expectations for the class, contradicting himself. Analogous, his teaching would be a mute individual trying to teach a baby to talk.
His lectures are honestly so disorganized and he makes a lot of mistakes without realizing it. I actually learn more from reading the Web Assign textbook than what he teaches in his Zoom meetings. The homework takes a very long time given the amount of problems per assignment and the amount of time it takes to complete one problem. Avoid him!!!
Horrible at explaining things.
He makes you buy a course that is supposed to allow you access to a textbook. Even after purchasing it you will not have access to the textbook so you will have to watch youtube videos or online to get taught. In class he just rambles on not really teaching you anything. Do not recommend at all.
I thought the bad reviews were because people are lazy. They aren't. This is by far the worst professor I've ever had. Lectures make little to no sense and he always gets the examples wrong. Tests are given with ridiculous time constraints and are impossible to finish. Do yourself a favor and don't take this guy. Nothing redeemable.
Stressful
If you can avoid taking him, I would definitely recommend. He does not know how to explain the problems and often takes his own approach and still seems to get problems wrong. 3 quizzes and 3 midterms plus the final. The homework is online and some can be found the quiz/ midterm but other questions are completely left field.
Does not do the best job at explaining the material, so you definitely have to rely more heavily on your textbook. Not a harsh grader at all, and even gave some extra points on first quiz. Not as bad as people make him seem.
Everything is good up until you take the exam. He marked off points because he couldn't read my handwriting. He doesn't give enough time for tests and assigns homework that needs to be handwritten.
Quizzes are sometimes graded incorrectly. Late to respond to emails. Forgets to upload lecture videos, which already don't cover course material well. Grading standards are inconsistent. Does not follow structure outlined in syllabus. Quiz and test content does not match with the content in lectures and the textbook. Would not recommend.
Literally SUCKS! If you have him online, his tests/quizzes are through Canvas and will add sections where you need to upload your work and grades insanely harshly on those! If you rely on a good math teach and can't self study well this is not the class for you.
He made us pay for Pearson and then has not sent one email, one lecture material, one announcement all quarter. We are expected to complete a pretty complex homework assignment every 2 days and then a study plan for "points" in which then we would be allowed to take the test. I would give this class 0/5 if I could This professor needs to retire.
It was a rough quarter but I passed. This professor requires hand written test, which can be difficult because he wants you to show all your work. With this in mind, we need more time to finish the test. He's alright at teaching, but exams and the homework... wow its a lot of work. He makes you pay for My Pearson Lab which is about 80 bucks.
No... Professor Bourgoub & Dr. Shi are the worst math instructors I have ever had.
He should retire!
NEVER TAKE HIM even if it is your last quarter to transfer!!!
AVOID. Expect typo-ridden quizzes+tests w/the onus on you to correct him. Excess homework+some ends up being irrelevant. If a quiz is coming up, do the homework for the week after it too. If you only do the assignments the quiz is supposed to cover, you'll be blindsided by future material showing up unannounced. Avoid this guy in the first place!
I don't think he deserves such a low rating. Although his lectures are disorganized and grading is a bit tough, his quizzes and tests are not hard if you understand the homework. I actually only attended for tests and relied on online resources to understand the basic concepts.
Don't ask why only 3 students attend his lecture
Search on Google: "Unfair Addressing of Student Issues by Prof. Bourgoub." Then you will understand why students avoid him at all costs.
He designed the test paper with incorrect values and refused to return all the credits. If I could put 0 to her, I would.
He is the only Math 2A teacher in Fall 2024. Taking his class was the worst decision of my life. He created a wrong test but never fixed it. He always ignores students' emails. If you find that he is the only teacher you can choose, please take this class at Foothill or wait until the next quarter.
quiz/exam questions wrong sometimes
It was VERY DIFFICULT understanding from him.
THIS PROFESSOR WAS TERRIBLE, LIKE I KID YOU NOT. THIS WAS THE ONLY CLASS THAT WAS AVAILABLE AND IT WAS THE WORST DECISION TAKING IT. HIS LECTURES ARE PREWRITTEN AND BARELY GOES THROUGH EXAMPLES. PLUS HE MESSES UP ON EXAMPLES IF HE DOES. HW ISN'T GRADED ONLY QUIZZES AND TESTS ARE. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
Tests make up a lot of your grade. It's hard to understand her explanations.
Don't take him. Very harsh grader.
This teacher was absolutely terrible. Would show up to class 15 minutes late most days, and would write formulas on the board and call it a day. No teaching was done and he required us to buy a $300 textbook we never used. I eventually had to hire a tutor to learn calculus since I had no idea how to do anything. Worst teacher I have had by far.
I'm a math major student and had him in fall. I took him just to finish my major courses early so that I could upload my transfer transcript sooner and be more competitive. But I was wrong. His lectures were super confusing & exams were EXTREMELY HARD. I got my first B. I believe less than 5 students can get A. Take Fatemeh or Sithparran if u can.
Only take this professor if you have to. YOU WILL BE SELF STUDYING. Horrible lectures. The camera and mic quality are bad, can barely read his handwriting, doesn't go in dept. Uses cengage and doesn't put the hw due dates on Canvas. Due dates are also really dumb (Some are due tues, thurs, sat, sun) y????? Ignore the 5 star reviews, not real
Just no. A joke of a professor.
Lectures were hard to follow, and he usually didn't make it clear what he's teaching.
I get the feeling that he wants all his students to fail. Why does De Anza offer so few Math 2A and 2B classes but allow him to teach so many of them? If I was the principal I would have him fired immediately.
Absolutely horrible, if you make a tiny mistake, his grading criteria makes you impossible to get A. His excuse is that grades aren't given to you, they are earned by your desire. Don't expect him to give any extra credits or curve to save your grade.
He is not your friend. Never take his class, even online. Heavy proctoring. Don't even think about cheating on any test. He reported some students after the final. STAY AWAY!!!
Hate his class
Please ont take this class. I am almost about to fail because i cannot keep up with the load of homework.
very good. I don't understand why ratings are so low. Cengage materials were available at the beginning of the quarter. The final exam is multiple choice. extra credits, and exam time can be slightly extended. None of the exam questions went beyond what was on Cengage. He holds office hours from Monday to Thursday, easy to reach him in person.
I got a C-. Although the class oftentimes felt dark and depressed, a few people participated and it was like light to a dark room. It is worth it to do your best and see what happens, don't think you owe it to yourself, you owe it to the people across from you doing their best. I wish I had changed sooner, a lot sooner.
He ended up rounding up my grade and I'm not sure why, but I'm not complaining! I was really scared of this teacher because of the reviews, but he was actually pretty nice, gave extra credit, and genuinely seems to enjoy teaching. That being said, he is an extremely harsh grader on tests and takes a lot of points off if you get a question wrong.
Why is he still teaching? He can't teach at all. Who hired this guy? He makes multiple mistakes, even in his prewritten notes.
He kept making mistakes in his pre-recorded lectures, even for integration and taking derivatives, which makes it hard to follow along with those errors in the middle of the problems. Some professors shouldn't teach. He is one of them.
He is a good professor. His lectures are clear and he care for his students to achieve their goal. He will not fail the students rather help them to success.
Honestly, he has a kind heart. He wants students to succeed. I'm terrible at math, and he helped me out. I came in scared because of his review, but I ended up liking him. Super understanding as well
The whole quarter this professor's grading percentages were incorrect the homework originally counted for 33% of the grade and he did not realize until the final day of the course so instead of having the A- I originally had my grade dropped to a B on the final day because instead of the homework being 33% of the grade it dropped to 24%.
Bad at lecturing, but can get an A with effort; have to rely on outside resources; fun to talk to outside class; messes up grades a lot. Watch Professor Leonard, the Math Sorcerer, & Prof Williams on YouTube before coming to class unless you want to cram. He has practice problems on his profile page that he doesn't give in class, so take advantage.
Does want students to succeed in his class, but just not competent enough to teach lecture material, which was often disorganized. Kept messing up deadlines and grades with Canvas & Webassign. Tests and quizzes often included material that wasn't taught in-person, so self-studying is a must if you want to pass this class.
He chilled out in the last few years. He gave us a lot of extra credit opportunities and take-home quizzes and he really cares about his students if you talk to him. Not the best lecturer so make sure you study a lot outside of class. Math 2A is insanely difficult.
Took his Finite Math class. Doesn't really teach. If you ask him to provide more details on a problem, he just tells you to read the textbook. The only good thing is the platform that we used for assignments because some problem have links to Youtube videos on how to solve the problem, not his videos though. I would pick him over Kejian Shi.
