It was easy to find all the course information that you were going to need and what you were going to do. Overall, the class was very well structured and you knew what to expect for hw and other assignments.
Learning Python online was pretty difficult and if you're not accustomed to taking online classes, you might have a hard time. The online course is all in Mindtap by Cengage. Usually each week, you read a chapter, take a quiz, and complete 3-4 assignments all due by Sunday at midnight. Some discussion board posts and extra credit sprinkled in.
Professor Hau is enthusisastic about what he teaches. He also only wants the best for his students.
Good and caring professor. Be prepared to read and understand with what you have. Cengage is nice and easy to use. Recommended but challenging - still worth taking for understanding Java's basics
Reading the eBook is the key for this class.
Took intro to Java, it's very independent so just study the materials on your own and ask questions when you're having trouble. Homework is on Cengage.
Professor Nguyen would help outside of class if you need it, and is understanding if something gets in the way of you doing your work, as long as you tell him in advance.
he was a very good teacher really puts the ball in your court on whether you do good or not and will help you where he can. he teaches a lot of classes. so you will probably need to go to computer lab for help
Inspirational! Likes group projects + presentations.
I took him online, but he was very nice. Lots of extra credit and gave lots of chances to talk to him. I recommend the class and this teacher!
professionals at its best
Professor Hau is one of the best teacher that I have worked with. He is amazing friendly and really care about his student! He also hooked me up with my current internship. I hope whoever read this commend will take his class. You will never regret about it! Cheers-
Great job teaching this semester. In look forward to participating in one of your classes again!
Just do the work and ask questions
Great professor overall.
Had a good semester, however, not a huge fan of Net Labs....I enjoy the other labs and quizzes. I am also not crazy about the NCL League that we forced to be in....
I really enjoyed professor Hau. Going to class was always fun and excited. I learned so much from his class. The only complaints I have would be the net labs and national cyber league. The national cyber league was super awesome but I wish there were more instructions on how to complete the assignments. And the net labs were boring. It should be u
Very easy to succeed in this course if you just stay on top of the weekly deadlines. Plenty of extra credit opportunities offered throughout the entire term, and Professor Hau is extremely approachable and quick to respond to any questions you may have. I honestly wish in hindsight I'd taken his class in-person, he's that cool.
Really like how he tends to have most things hands on in the class, not a fan though of the netlabs or the mindtap exercises as it pretty much just tells you what to do, but I loved NCL that he had us participate as it kind of had us do a little more research and work to get the answers.
great teacher
He's willing to help as much as he can and wants to see you succeed and learn, he even offers career opportunities and job fair events to help aspiring cybersecurity people to move on with their careers.
Professor Hau is a really great teacher who cares about your learning and is really helpful with information about Cybersecurity and about possible internships. This class has a lot of homework but it is not too difficult.
he is good teacher, really helps students to learn
Had a great semester, be a good student and youll have no problem.
Professor Hau is truly awesome. He is not lecture heavy but wants you to participate and makes the classroom a fun learning environment. He will walk you through any problems you encounter and is very outgoing. Highly recommend.
Took this intro to cyber class because I was looking for an intro; this however was more of launch pad thrusting you into vastness of cybersecurity. From the normality of book work to the actual cyber hacking labs and the hacking competition, this class gets you excited about what other elements of IT. Prof. Hau will give you that boost you need!
he is really good and easy friendly and helpfull . coolest man
The dude is awesome, take his class.
I'm an international student and it was pretty easy to understand everything.
Great teacher in a fun class.
Hau is a very informative and caring teacher that cares about his students success and wants his students to get the most out of the class.
Great class, but definitely be prepared to put some time into it.
Professor Hau has a background in CS, networking and cybersecurity. However, he appears to have found his calling as an educator. Grossmont students are lucky to have him! I strongly suggest visiting him during his office hours early in the semester. He is full of practical advice and wants to help you succeed.
Prof. Hau's classes have tons of outside learning opportunities that will be great for your career.
Solid class most of the downsides are due to lack of funding to the program, Hau is really passionate about Cyber Security and makes class more enjoyable
Hes wonderful. If your passionate about Cyber Security, he will push you to explore and expand your knowledge. Overall one of my favorite teachers ever.
Very knowledgeable professor willing to work with his students to see them succeed. Offers extra credit and keeps you updated with outside events and opportunities that actually apply to the class and related careers! Overall great.
The teacher is friendly. He helped us whenever we need. Make sure you study the materials and you will pass the class. His finals exam is usually open-book.
Class was fun, learned tons about cybersecurity
This was a straight-forward on-line class. If you read the book and did the assignments, it was an easy A. Unfortunately, it's easy to get an A without having learned much.
Cares about students. Very responsive when emailed and always updates on new developments.
ONLINE. GREAT class GREAT professor. Learn Cybersecurity, Kali Linux, Windows Servers, hacking, White Hat of course ;) Real world scenarios, especially in discussions, not just some boring textbook theories. LOTS of practical labs, live VMs. NCL CTF, Capture Flag 25 percent grade this semester, own pace, Novice is FINE for CTF. PLENTY EXTRA credit
Great online class! Everything is nicely organized so you have an idea of your workload. Make sure to read the book it's the most important thing. The discussion has a lot of real-world scenarios. Everything talked about in this class can be related to current world situations.
The assignments are helpful in understanding the material but a decent amount of time has to go into the class if you have no prior knowledge of programming or python in general. There is a final project that you work on throughout the semester creating your own program.
A great teacher who lets students know about many opportunities.
Gives us a lot of opportunities in the computer related world.
Graded by a lot of things which I always prefer over being graded on only a handful of things that are worth a lot of points - too much pressure.
You can tell he does care about your success in the class, and if you ask for help, he will give it to you. However, you do still need to put effort into the class.
He is a great professor that wants you to pass. He gives ample opportunity for extra credit and is available for help when you need him. In a reasonable time frame of course.
Great professor, very motivational.
Uses an online textbook that comes with questions within the book. It is a pretty easy read, and the questions are helpful.
Best professor ever.
Pretty much how I want all my professors to be. A+
Really enjoyed this professor
This professor is very patient. He is the best assembly language professor I have ever seen. His class is very ez to pass.
Clear expectation, fun and organized professor ever. Would take him again.
Great teacher, much better than the previous instructor. Pretty easy class if you do all of the work
He gets students to participate in inclass activites. He doesn't assign too much homework, and he often lectures about the specific homework that is due next week.
Great professor
I believe with the 4 weeks that we had left of this semester. This professor went above and beyond in teaching this course when our last professor bailed on us and we weren't learning anything at that point.
Clear on the work he expects of you. Chill teacher, most of the work was done on a third party site. Would recommend.
He is very organized and neat in preparing his assignments and homework. Make sure to read the material ahead of coming to your next class since he will go over it briefly and work on the assignments together with the whole class.
Professor Nguyen is a great professor. He took over our assembly course when our professor left with only a few weeks left to finish. He did a good job, despite Assembly not being his language of expertise. Homework was done using zybooks, which is very helpful compared to reading a complicated textbook. If you do the work, you will get an A.
Nice guy, lenient grader. His lectures need some work but they aren't bad.
Very organized, Expectations for the class are clear and overall enjoyed the quality of the lecture/exercise sessions. Provides lots of outside resources to check out too
Very well organized. Holds himself with an energizing enthusiasm, and managed to put together a very good agenda with only a few weeks of the semester left (previous professor had quit unexpectedly). Teaching style is relaxed and casual, with mild class participation to ensure people are learning. Would definitely take again.
A good choice)
Professor Nguyen replaced the terrible professor we started the class with. He came in late in the semester, but I am very glad he took over. Actually ended up learning something and got my money's worth. Would take this professor again if he was teaching any more of the classes I need.
Professor Hau had a very clear grading system and provides great learning material. By doing the assignments, you will already have a solid understanding of the content since the software he uses for teaching is very interactive and effective. He provides great feedback and is very accessible when you need him. Take him if you can.
superb online course. very well organized online material.
Professor Nguyen is definitively a respected professor with a lot of experience and a person who cares about the students.
Really enjoyed the class.
I recommend professor Hau Nguyen because you will learn in his class, and he you will get a good grade too.
Professor Nguyen is very knowledgeable and will help you if you need it. I really got to learn Python with all the activities and final project. You have to put in effort to learn though, if you are new to programming this is not an easy class but an A is definitely attainable if you try.
I took him online, but had ample opportunity to meet with him in person. He's a nice and helpful person who gives good feedback and encouragement. He also provides a few opportunities for extra credit, if that's your thing. I would absolutely recommend taking him.
you just do not know what you need to read for finishing this class
Class was easy as long as you keep up with your exercises and discussions.
The class wasn't explained very well, however, once you figure it out it's simple to do. Be prepared for this professor not to be very involved. I liked this fact as it allowed me to finish early, save for the final exam. I really enjoyed the hands-on excel and python portions.
He is very good prof.
Great Professor, The online course was easy to follow and was very fun. You will learn a lot but there is a lot of assignments.
Teacher communicated well. Responds to email and group discussion posts in a timely manner. Provided syllabus was very thorough. Participate is group discussions. Learning platform took a minute to figure out, but once I did, it was fairly easy to navigate. More than ample opportunity given to pass exams and quizzes. All in all was a good course.
I want to take his class again if I need to take a higher CSIS class and find an available class that he is teaching. I am an international student and particularly was not in the problem. He gives students many attempts in assignments and tests, so I tried several times when I needed.
This class was very very very easy! I took this online over summer and it was well organized and the reading, quizzes, and the final were all very easy.
Very good professor. I didn't find the textbook to be very helpful, but Cengage walks you through the different programs you use.
Course was not difficult at all. You get more than one try one each assignment and quiz/exam (except for the final exam). Course revolves around weekly discussion board posts, quizzes, exams, and completing assignments on Cengage.
The class was organized clearly and grading was automatic by the computer. The minute you finished an assignment it was graded and reported to canvas. Every assignment you are given three attempts so if you don't like your grade the first time you can try again for that A.
Good teacher
This class would be really difficult for someone who can't figure out the Cengage program. While there's a lot of material involved, it's pretty easy to do and offers many attempts, just put in the effort. If this professor offers other online courses for my major, I will be signing up for them.
Self-paced course had solid curriculum, but the fact it was online meant that it was 1/2 performance tasks and 1/2 tests. Most assignments are automatically graded, but for the ones that are done manually, no late credit will be given. Auto-grade fortunately does not impose late penalties. Course textbook is online, free for 2 weeks, then is $120.
The material in this class is definitely not easy but Professor Hau has structured in a good way considering this is a relatively short summer class. It is definitely important to be independent due to the class being completely online although Professor Hau and his assistant are very helpful with issues.
The online class is great and you will receive a good grade if you do your homework every week. It is homework heavy!
I took the class online and it was mostly through the portal Cengage. Did not hear much from the Professor and felt more like I was teaching myself. He does give you multiple tries at assignments to get the best grade which is awesome
This a really nice online class, but the time was very short in summer. Next time, I want to take this class in a regular semestre.
Don't miss any assignments and stay on top of your reading. If you put in the work then you will be okay.
If you do all homework before due date, you must pass and get an A. This course is easier than MIS so I take CICS110 instead of MIS180.
Overall it was a good class and I learned a lot about Excel. The python coding section of this course was really tough. You need a good amount of time dedicated to completing all the work that this class requires.
Professor Nguyen's online summer course is soooooo easyyyyyyyy. Class is well-organized, expectations were explicit. He also allows multiple attempts on the homework and quizzes so it's easy to score over 90% on the second or third try, if you didn't already do so.
Easy class
Professor Nguyen is very good answering emails and on top of grades, the course is well organized. Assignments due every week!
Did a good job answering questions on the online forum.
Clear grading criteria, very well organized online class. Lots of information, time consuming, but not difficult.
Straight forward grading scale(ABCDF). The quizzes can be a little confusing in that a lot of the answers sound right. There was not a significant amount of homework but the homework can take you longer than expected and ends up being almost half your grade. 100 points extra credit at end which is equal to one discussion board post.
This class will give you the skills you need to succeed in almost every and all fields. I used to never know how to use excel but this course made it easy and clear how to use and prosper from these speadsheets.
I liked the course a lot. There was a lot of homework but very manageable. Professor is always available if you have questions.
Chill class, mostly online so online discussion was the only time teacher interacts with the class. Most works are done through Cengage
Online class that was well laid out, the discussions were enjoyable!
This class was good to learn more about Python. There is a lot of homework but very manageable. You can do great in the tests if you do all the homework.
If you need to take CSIS 110, take this online class.
TOok it as a summer class, a lot of work but relatively easy assignments.
Thanks for the summer class!
I learned a lot about programming in Python in this class. The homework assignments were all very helpful for learning the language.
Nice and easy intro to python class. Uses mindtap for all quizzes and most assignments. Discussions weekly. Final was multiple choice with 2 write-your-own-code questions.
Took it as a summer class. Had a lot of work but it was relatively simple.
Dude was legit
I took his 12 week class and enjoyed it very much. Very friendly and patient to answer questions. The assignments were not hard and were relevant to the course. It's interesting to immediately put in practice what you learn in class. The hands-on activities helped me understand subjects from other classes I was taking.
I enjoyed the videos he showed us in class.
Would take another course with him in the future!
Super cool dude his class is very interactive and he goes over a lot. But be sure to have a computer you're willing to brick. We did National Cyber league and we had to download a lot of programmes to use it.
His class is 51% online and the rest on campus. He is very nice. If you ask for help he will help you. He gives a lot of extra credit. He teaches with passion, you get hands on with the computers in class.
Great class, brings much awareness to cybersecurity
useful intro class, includes hands on experience as well and does a great job of teaching the resources and information
Amazing class
Knows his subject but you have to be on top of the assignments. talk to him if you have problems he will try to help you but you have to do your part
Honestly, he's a good teacher who knows his stuff, just be ready to read the textbook before attempting the homework. The cengage projects are what seem to be getting most people, and that's fair, they're practically in another language
A great programming teacher who is willing to sit alongside you and assist.
good instructor
Very caring and provide real world information and examples. Really wants to help you learn. Excellent computer science teacher.
He is extremely organized, provide resources that help to understand your assignments, he is pending of what we are doing and gives us feedback, he grade every week your assignments. I learned a lot in this class.
I didn't like how the class was laid out but have no suggestions on how to change it.
Prof. Nguyen, truly is invested in seeing his students achieve the goal of becoming a cyber security professional.
I really enjoyed this class. I learned many cool things. I can't wait until next NCL games.
Great teacher and get ready to work
Pretty straightforward class, just do the work and you'll get the grade you work for. It's very independent. Can get stuck on some exercises on NCL though, they are pretty tough.
Participate in the discussions and complete the assignments and you will do well.
Good teacher. Maybe some more information to know about the subject would of been good, but it was an online class so it could of been me just not retaining the online information as good.
I do not favor online classes personally, and this one was as much fun as any other to me. I feel that online classes do not allow you to connect with your peers or professor nearly as much as in person classes do. The work was clearly laid out, and I did learn a good amount but I would definitely try to take this class in person if possible.
Amazing teacher, makes teaching fun, and passionate about this field.
Professor Nguyen communicated well and reminds you of upcoming due dates! He is really helpful.
He is a really good professor
Awesome cybersecurity class! Super recommend.
Professor Ngyuen is a great professor because he is passionate and well qualified to teach his courses because of his background which allows the student to pick up some of his great knowledge.
Great professor, just do the assignments and you're good to go!
Helped me out when i needed his help and responded promptly.
Awesome professor! Would highly recommend for cybersecurity
I would definitely take other courses taught by this professor.
Awesome professor really easy going not an easy A but its like high school gym if you show up put in the effort youll get a good grade :)
actively involved and passionate about the subject
He was a good teacher but when I would ask questions about certain assignments or help on something, he never really knew what to do or how to help me. He would just say "Read the instructions".
The only pain is using Cengage's software, aside from that, Professor Hau is great. If you're absolutely new to programming, maybe supplement yourself with some youtube java tutorials/explanations, since the class can be a bit tough for absolute newbies. There's homework but minimal and _relatively_ easy (though maybe a challenge for newbies).
great teacher!!!!!!!!!!!
Professor Hau is passionate about computer programming. He enjoys teaching his students and making sure we are understand the material. He gives extra credit here and there. His class consists of reading the material before class day, meaning on class day you'll put to practice what you read.
very respectful and passionate!
Really enjoyed this class
Great professor overall. Easy grader but gives great feedback. Challenges you to think critically.
Really care for his students and loves what he does!
He is great at guiding you through subjects that you may previously have known nothing about. When I started the class I could barely turn on the computer. He has taught us about how to navigate the computer and how it works. Also how to understand the web and how to stay safe. Plus where the new world technology is going. I loved this class
Professor Nguyen is very intelligent! As a student in his class I was easily able to understand computer vocabulary and use Microsoft Office. His instructions are always clear. I would say that this class is easy to get an A in as long as you are willing to put in the work. Online assignments are fairly simple but time consuming.
Very good professor, really knows what he is doing and clearly understands computer science on a deeper level.
This class could have alittle more guided direction but overall the professor is an excellent one and will take time outside of class to talk to you about subjects like your career and ways to get better as a programmer. Highly recommend.
He is an okay professor. He does not really help as much since he wants the student to make an effort (trying to figure it out for themselves, even if they feel really lost in the course). I felt really loss in the course and had to get help from the tutors or find the help that told me what I was missing.
Good teacher, has a lot of experience in his field. Class is not too hard, but not a cakewalk either. Pay attention and ask for any help you need, Mr. Hau is happy to help so long as you ask.
Great Professor! Made every lecture subject related to real life, which made it easy to follow along. Teaches you many tips and tricks for computer use in the real world. Only downside was even though the lectures were very long, you would still need to do your own reading at home to understand the test questions.
The lecturer gives good feedback when has a problem with the assignments.
good professor, easy to pass and not strees.
He is an amazing teacher. I enjoyed and learned a lot this semester. I am looking forward to have this teacher again.
Professor Hau is pretty straightforward. What you need to do is really clear, and he will be there if you get stuck. If youre willing to study and follow the material then I definitely recommend taking him.
looking forward to taking more computer classes, including cybersecurity
Hao is a very well thought out personality. He is awesome to take a class with and will explain everything he requires of you upfront. I strongly recommend his class if you are taking an intro CSIS course.
It is a real shame that classes had to be moved to an online platform. Professor Hau is a great teacher for in class learning,
He is an amazing professor and really understands computers and programming in general. I would absolutely take him again. He does not do much teaching as class times are mainly to practice programming and a place to ask questions from him and other students in the class. He encourages group learning, just be sure not to copy code from another.
Overall Great Professor
I took this class over the Summer and the material went by very quickly. I can at least interpret an IDE now.
He assigns extra credit at the end of the semester, but you'll likely not need it because everything out of the book has unlimited attempts. Easy pass, but plenty of practice problems if you are new to coding and want to learn.
pretty straight forward teacher.
This was my second round of classes with professor Nguyen. The courses he teaches are very well put together. It's nice to see a CSIS professor that actually knows how to use a computer and set up their canvas in a way that's easy to follow and leaves little room for "dumb" questions. He is cool.
Even though this class was online, Professor Nguyen was always available to provide feedback and keeping us engaged on the class. I had heard good things about him from others about other classes he has offered. He seems to be caring and interested on helping students continue to grow on the technical area.
Nice professor that was willing to help. There are no lectures, but instead most of the class was through an online program that provided a textbook, problems and quizzes. It did not feel like the professor actually did that much, but it was a very straight forward class.
Great literature thanks
Class was pretty chill. Stay on top of your weekly stuff, reach out if you need the help. Rinse and repeat. Still I learned quite a lot and it was a nice class to take!
I just wish they didn't rely heavily on the online assignments since you are able to bypass the test mechanism and get 100% all the time.
He is easy if you already know how to program or you are a good self learner. The issue is that he doesn't actually "teach". He just has slideshows and sorta makes the students learn. I have no idea why he calls on students so much to do exercises and has us just sit there as some student tries to figure out what to do.
So easy!
Easy A, guy can teach as well and gives great feedback ! I would take him again!
Coursework was mainly participation and challenge activities through zyBooks and Dbs on the 7 chapters covered in the course. As long as you keep up with the activities and the discussions, you should be just fine. Also extra credit was offered at the end of the semester. Highly recommend doing it for easy extra points.
This class relies heavily on zyBooks and forums. You just need to do those and you will get an A. Also he gives out an extra credit survey at the end. Very easy going summer course. He doesn't actually teach but it still very easy to pass this class with the way it is formatted.
His class was mainly zyBooks and discussions. If you do well on those, you will get an A. He also offers extra credit at the end of the semester so even if you dont do too well on his final, you can still get an A in his class. I would say a solid choice for csis 165.
The material was pretty hard but the class set up makes it really easy. Participation is pretty much 75% so you should easily pass. The rest of the grade is your final which was pretty easy too. Also gives tons of EC throughout the semester. Ended up finishing with above 100%. Def recommend.
Great Professor, that has amazing lectures that are all online for each chapter of the textbook that is required. There are a lot of chances for extra credit too.
Great teachers with good lessons who cares for his students.
Very good professor. This class is difficult, but he teaches it well and uses a great textbook. Plus, he's easily accessible outside of class for questions.
Not much to say. If you followed along with the online reading it was pretty easy. Noticed a few mistakes on quizzes, professor corrected them quickly.
His class was fun. He also has a lot of extra credit opportunity for missing homework. As long as you follow the modules, you will do fine in the class.
This professor is amazing at what he does and responds quickly if you need help. Take him you won't regret it.
Decent
Professor Hau, Was communicative and was helpful in reminders about what assignments are due.
Loved this class and professor. The textbook was awesome at testing knowledge throughout your reading and the online gaming system felt like getting hands on experience.
This professor understands the material and wants you to understand it too. The textbook used is interactive and a great way to learn. The professor provides plenty of chances for extra credit and is invested in your success.
Overall engaging professor, provides helpful information and links pertaining to the class and outside as well.
The class kind of led itself. From the modules for the book through its publishers website, the discussions students were required to lead and participate in, and the external site for a required competition (participation was graded, not score or placement). The Professor was available for questions and feedback on assignments, but that's it.
He is very good at what he does and is very welcoming.
Professor's course is very reasonable with the workload and the material is very informative if you put the effort in to learn the material.
He is quite knowledgeable in his field. I only have one criticism. He needs to be more flexible with due dates and give students in a bad personal situation a little extra time to complete assignments.
His assignment's were not too bad.
Amazing professor, great class structure
Great introductory course into Cybersecurity and practical labs.
thank you!
He will send you to tutors if you need assistance. Not a bad teacher, but you will be relying on ZYBOOKS, not him. You could learn everything in this course on your own and without him.
bro chill
Basic introductory class, pretty easy
Easy to follow along with the work, can get a bit tedious but all in all a fairly easy class to take.
Easy work load, assignments are easy to understand, and very interesting discussion posts.
This professor has the class set up extremely well. It is very organized and well put together. There is no confusing on what is expected or when something is do. Help is usually available pretty quickly. Make sure to check how long some of the chapters are in order to complete them on time, but you have plenty of time to get your work done.
very informative and fun class to take.
Very communicative and helpful. Always sent reminders and helpful tools to help us improve.
Amazing Professor!
I enjoyed this class because it taught me a lot of things that I didn't know were a thing and the NCL gyms really were hard but did teach me well. It helped me further my learning in Cyber Security and it was fun.
Very easy going and funny! would recommend this professor to future students who are interested in taking his course.
Late work is strict. And the class I did didn't really require showing up to do well. Generally kind and wants his students to succeed.
Professor Nguyen cares about his students' success and always sends helpful cybersecurity websites.
very good professor.
Made class interactive and engaging in a fun way.
This was a hybrid class, don't expect lectures to be actual lectures more like an overview of progress and individual work. He is quite nice but a little detached when it comes to needing help or asking questions. Make good use of the tutors for NCL Stay on top of Zybooks, can be a lot to read. The final is pretty personal about what you learned.
He gives you a very good taste of the field so if you want to see if this is the field for you, take this class with him. I took him in person, but he had Zoom as well. Even with in-person, there was no lecture and it was kind of like office hours. A manageable amount of work. Don't worry about the final exam if you did zyBooks. NCL: fun but hard.
CSIS121-3571. I had no interaction with the professor. This class felt especially empty. Previous professors had sent emails or posted announcements at the beginning of each week which hinted at how the class seemed to be doing as a whole, but not here. Work prevented me from joining optional zoom meetings, so definitely catch those if you're able.
Great class! The Professor doesn't accept late work but usually gives full credit for the assignments you submit on time. He also has many opportunities for extra credit. I'd take a million more of his online classes if I could.
Professor Nguyen values your time, he respects your outside needs whether its work or family and allows a very flexible amount of time to get your work done. Even more so everything about him and his class was flexible, he was able to easily adapt to your needs and help where help is needed.
he is respectfull, explain clearly, ensure that student have understand the material.
He is serious about his deadlines unless you let him know ahead of time, overall he is a really good professor.
Hau Nguyen was a super chill professor and easy to learn. Also, he is very helpful with student's needs and very straightforward class.
Professor is very well informed and up to date when it comes to cybersecurity. Allows very engaging group disscussion to talk about current situations happening in the real world. An excellent online teacher when it comes to replying on any question or concern. Very generous on giving us links for opportunities such as for jobs or career fairs.
Great professor knows what he is doing and is very smart.
Clear guidelines and expectations. You will get the grade you deserve, if you put in an effort then that will be reflected in your grade. Professor is easy to talk to and get ahold of.
Professor Nguyen is very articulate in his teaching mannerisms and is never shy to answer any questions you have. He is also very good at teaching you visually and hands on.
Great professor was really helpful
This class was great. I would recommend it as a beginner class! Make sure you do a lot of practice for the NCL games and familiarize yourself with it. There's lots of extra credit. The homework is pretty straightforward.
Hans was a great professor.
I liked Professor Hau. He gave us enough time for each assignment, I like how he gave us multiple resources, it made things a bit easier. If you are a beginner at cybersecurity, you might find it a bit difficult at first, but with the zybooks and some of the resources it does get easier.
I took professor Nguyen an 8-week CSIS121 course, and all I can say is the class is easy going and he covers any questions you may have. However, you must stay consistent with weekly due dates, do that and you'll be fine.
His is good .
Cool class and solid Professor!
They must know that if you do not turn your work on time, you will have 0.
100% all online from the textbook, assignments, quizzes, etc. The textbook is very straightforward and easy to follow, but I personally would've liked an in person more where you are able to actively engage with the professor in the moment rather than send an email for a question you had last week for it to be replied to 2 weeks later. 10/10 class
Take this class
Does a good job of explaining why points were docked so you know what to do for the next assignment.
Make sure to make your assignments on time and do not fall behind.
The professor doesn't actually teach you anything. He has all these things set up in advance so you read the book while answering questions. There is also an interactive activity that was fun. However, if you need help, he shrugs you off and tells you to go to a tutor for help.
Uses Zybooks and Discussion Board. Easy to follow, and provides lots of extra credit opportunities.
As long as you are doing your work consistently, you should do fine in this class. Also the content is not too difficult, but it does require some effort on certain subjects. He is very responsive to emails and office hours are pretty fun.
its a good start for taking first class in my major
The class requires consistent effort, but the content is manageable. The professor is responsive and the interactive activities are fun. Using unstuckstudy ai alongside the textbook helped me prepare well for this course.
he is a good teacher gives plenty of resources
10/10 Good teacher. Would happily have this teacher again.
..........
Professor Nguyen is an awesome teacher who really knows how to make learning fun and engaging. His teaching style is super effective, as he explains difficult concepts in a way that's easy to understand. All our homework is done online using Zybooks, which makes it interactive and interesting.
This professor is professional in every aspect and is a very kind hearted soul who is lenient when it comes to grade deadlines. Always willing to lend a helping hand and all you got to do is just ask and he will go above and beyond to make sure you understand the material.
The best professor, easy grader.
he was a great teacher.
Overall great experience!
Professor Nguyen taught a great class. Participation in the course matters, and I appreciated the time given to learn the material pressure-free. Overall, I enjoyed the class and would definitely take another course taught by Professor Nguyen.
Very easy going teacher.
I enjoyed this class and the professor. He's incredibly passionate about his work and makes learning cybersecurity engaging and enjoyable. A heads up, he does encourage students to practice public speaking, which might feel a bit uncomfortable if you're shy. The class is well-organized and clear. I would definitely take another one of his classes.
He is a legend
It is a very difficult class but he grades knowing we aren't experts. It is very information heavy but all very useful. Teaches you as if this is a job, not a class. Very real life-skill oriented.
Assignments were straightforward and the textbook we used was very informative. However, I asked him a question once and he immediately referred me to the tutors, which I did not appreciate. I work so it is difficult to coordinate with the tutors since they are only available M-F during the day. Would've preferred my professor to teach me instead.
Just do the work and focus. You will pass
he is amazing
I like the method of teaching he was using; he was giving all support and motivation for students to be best.
He was an alright instructor
This was an online class. However there was a Zoom link provided if you wanted to drop in on his on campus class. I found that to be helpful.
He was good, he taught a good class dipping your toes into cybersecurity
He is a great and helpful professor
awsome teacher and teaching makes thing easy to understand
Professor Hau Nguyen is a knowledgeable and professional instructor for CSIS121. His teaching style is clear and well-structured, which makes understanding the material much easier. He explains complex concepts in a simple and practical way, often using examples that relate to real-world scenarios.
I recommend to take class with this professor
Being online, there was less interaction with the professor, but the assignments were easy to understand and he was helpful if needed,
it's a good professor but the only thing about him is the way that he grades, he won't let you do late work even if you have an emergency.
He was excellent at giving opportunities to share opinions about subjects within the class to help with public speaking. The class was mainly do-it-yourself, and he was there if you had questions that could not be solved online.
Great teacher and easy to talk to.
The professor is nice but sometimes ignoring to resolve the issue instead of finding a solution or guide you step by step sending something that does not make sense.
This was a very informative course and professor.
The professor is super nice and chill and doesn't accept late work. Though I feel we didn't learn a lot from the class, we used ZYbooks a lot and it was pretty simple to use.
Amazing teacher. 10/10 would take again.
thought he was alright
Clear instructions given. No late work accepted.
hit those due dates, no late work
The professor is great at explaining tough topics in a simple way and makes the class really interesting. He is patient, supportive, and always willing to help students succeed. You'll learn a lot in their class.
Terrible teaching style, relies on ZyBooks instead of teaching the students. He cannot answer simple questions, instead says "Have you read the chapter" or "Ask the student tutors" It's a shame Grossmont is trying to offer bachelors program for cyber. This class or Degree will not prepare you at all.
He's super nice and approachable! The course was very informative and a really good beginner course.
I recommend his CSIS 121 class, it was so fun!
Excellent Professor!
Very friendly and good narrator. He have bunch of hardware examples, that will show you on classes. Will tell you about your perspectives on different classes, will recommend what to take next.
Mr. Nguyen made this course very easy and digestible for a beginner like me. He provided many excellent resources to help me excel in this course.
Professor Hau is a very understanding and motivating professor. He made sure to be available for students to ask questions. He also gave us students multiple opportunities to apply for internships pertaining to the field. I also really enjoyed the class materials for the class. Overall, amazing class and kind and knowledgeable professor!
Yes , he is a great .
Very informative and offers a lot of tools for cybersecurity.
Absolutely the best thing about Professor Nguyen was the amount of extra credit opportunities provided.
I took him for Intro to Cybersecurity and he was so nice. He's very responsive to any questions and makes himself very available to us. I had the pleasure of also being able to attend the hybrid in person lectures and he is very informative. He provided a lot of extra credit opportunities and I ended his class with a 104%.
Professor Hau might be the most best professor I ever had to meet online and in person. He is a respectful and knowledge teacher when I first started my cybersecurity journey. He provided many announcements and resources that I took advantage of. Cyber topics were interesting and easy to learn, and I wish I could write more, but I'm at the limit.
