this is the best teacher of all time next to dr. Mac reynolds. She explains and make sure you understandseverything clearly. she is sucha nice person and cares about your feelings because sheunderstands that you're only human. i suggest that if youre gonna take psyhology..take her..:)
She's not really a professor, shes a teaching assistant, but either way, she's really good at what she does. She's helpful and clear.
SHE'S ONLY A TA BUT SHE IS WOULD MAKE A GREAT PROFESSORS, BETTER THAN SOME OF THE OTHER ONES I HAD THIS SEMESTER...TRY TO GET HER
Hawai is a T.A. but she is just as good if not better than the professors i took this semester. She was helpful and supportive with all her students! awsome class
she is really helpful and makes the material easy to understand. she is a little hard on the papers, so in return, work very hard on them and go to the writing center. She gives quizes in the 1st 5 mins, so if you r a tardy person, don't take the class.
Nice person! Really helpful! If you are alway on time and pay attention the quizes and final is a piece of cake! Take her you wont regret it!
She is a tense TA, but she is knowledgeable...
Great Professor! 9:00 Saturday Class, but manage to make every class. Learning a lot more than just Psychology in her class. Very challenging yet very interesting.
AWSOME Professor. Her method of theaching is great. She provodes all the information that you need in order to pass the class. Her classes are enjoyable and she's humorous. Her teaching of PSY insipres everyone to learn more. She is probably one of the best PSY teacher in the School.you will recieve good grades of you work hard. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
T.A. or professor it doesn't matter to me, but she was a great teacher. She actualy has me thinking about becoming a psy. major. she was extremely helpful with the work very supportive and most importantly she made the class interesting. I highly recommend her class even if it sounds crazy going to a three hour sat class. g luck!!!!
i have to admit, she can be tough but she has your best interest at heart. she asks for your feedback & makes sure everything is fair for the class so the class can get a good grade. a very smart woman who knows what she is talking about. its worth the 2.5 hours. read her notes and listen in class & you'll be fine.
She is really helpful, but strict. She give quiz almost every week, and you have to due two paper and take two exam(MC). If you are native, and pay attention to her class, read her notes, so you will be good. But, i dont suggest any immigrant or bad english student to take her class until you finished freshmen year. Otherwise, I recommend her.
AWESOME TEACHER!!!!!!!!!! One of the best teachers that CCNY has from the Psychology dept. her students are at her best intrest. She tends to be very strict but it all pays off at the end. She is very kind and wants everyone to get a good grade and she will help you to the best of her ability to make sure u get that A :o) 100% Reccomended!!!!
Great professor. Really cares about the students. Actually teaches. Gives you the notes so all you have to do is study them. Multiple choice exams & few, very doable papers. Gotta try really hard to fail her class.
I personally hate saturday classes, but i loved this class and woke up every sat morning excited to be there. she maybe a little harsh but the class is very fun, no dull moments at all. If you dont like psychology u need to take this class b.c she'll make you like it. no text book only based on notes... love this class..
Professor Kwok really knows her stuff, and has the ability to make class always fun and interesting ('cept for the brain/neuron class). Not too much work, one presentation and one paper. Two tests, the tests are very thorough - you really need to know how to apply all of the info from class, but if you study you should be fine.
Prof. Kwok is very helpful. Her lectures are very interesting and she is very concerned about her students. If you get her, by all means take her class!!!
In her class you will get the grade you earned. I learned a lot, I love the fact that she relates the topics to everyday situations, a good way to stick it into your mind. She knows what she is talking about I highly recommend her if you have a chance to get her and o yea if you study for your exam and don?t procrastinate you will pass her test.
You receive the grade you've earned. She made psych really interesting I learned so much from this class. Study hard for your first exam. Trust me. The terms may be easy to memorize but applying it to scenarios is a bit challenging. Don't be afraid to ask questions. She likes participation and she gives candy during exams :) Highly recommend!
I love her she is really nice and loves interactin w. her students, as long as u do what she asks you will get a good grade. she is the fairest prof i hve ever came across. That is what makes her so great She is always up for feedback nd willin to work with her students! TAKE HER! I personally did extra work outside of class but u can just ask ques
She is by far the best professor I've came across, she is very clear about her materials. 2 interesting papers for the semester, multiple choice exams. She relates the topic to daily life and makes it interesting. Basically every class was like a group discussion, and I just learned the materials from talking and listening
Very high expectations. Regardless of whether you're a psych major or just fulfilling a requirement, she expects you to give the class your all. However, she really knows her stuff and has a passion for it. You'll definitely learn something.
It was a Hybrid course which was cool. I see some people had a hard time participating in the comment section. However I don't think it would be a problem at all with a Hybrid course (half online/ half in class).
She doesn't give notes. Participation counts a lot! Papers are hard. Tests are 50 multiple choice. 1 midterm and 1 final. you have to read txtbook to do good.
I wish Hawai would teach more psych courses, honestly. She is amazing and clear and to the point. I enjoyed her class but there is really no room to mess up. I was on top of every assignment and I did alright on the final, and it brought my grade down. Just do the work honestly, show up, participate, and you'll be fine!
Amazing professor. Not only she knows her topic really well but she is passionate about her field and more importantly, she knows how to teach. She is able to translate concepts into daily life experiences and examples that students can easily remember and relate to. She cares about her students, not only with her subject but counseling as well.
Hawai Kwok is by far the most amazing professor I had. She knows what she's teaching and she is very passionate about it. Never have I fell more in love with Psychology before her. She's funny, she's informative, she's inspirational and she is one of a kind. I'm dying to take another one of her courses, I love PSY. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER.
Don't be late, don't let your phone ring during class. She has a clear grading criteria. 1 paper, 2 50-straightforward-questions-tests, and a 6-10 pop quizzes. The quizzes are 3 questions long regarding the previous lecture. Her lectures are interesting and engaging. Doesn't write on the broad so make sure to take notes. Should read the textbooks.
She was awesome! The course was clear. It was a hybrid class, met once a week and an posting due every week. One paper. 2 midterms. She explained clearly. Not rigid but comical at times. I would recommend to anyone. Why not take hybrid, its a short school week.
Professor Kowk's requirements are CLEARLY written on the syllabus and she doesn't assign too much homework. For having taken a hybrid class before, this one is very manageable/easy if you keep up with it. The textbook is not a bad read, and skimming can get you by. This is an "Easy A" class if you try to do well.
It was a wonderful experience being in her class! She's really sweet and funny. You can ask any questions and she'll try her best to answer. Had a great time being part of her class!
With Kwok as a teacher, not only will you learn psychology well but you'll enjoy it all throughout! "The time to do work is now" is the best advice to excel in this class. It's not difficult at all as long as you understand what's going on and keep on top of the work. Great lectures and homework isn't too bad or time consuming. Very lenient as well
I took her hybrid course and I loved it. She is honestly a really good professor, I highly recommend taking her class. She does make you work for your grade. Her midterms were a little tough. She also gives extra credit so take advantage!! Over all, as long as you try in her class she will notice and hopefully boot your grade.
An amazing teacher this is the layout of the class 1 Midterm- covers half the semester 1 Final- covers the other half of the semester For the test she will give you the topics 1 paper the quizzes are random 7 quizzes is based on attendance 6 quizzes writing assignment that honestly you can write anything she will give full credit.
Great with feedback, really wants to help her students learn and get a good grade. She's also funny and lecture is never boring.
She really cares for her students and her passion for the subject is obvious. She may come off as strict at first and although true, she has amazing stories to share related to almost every subject covered. The lectures are extremely effective and helped me understand the material much better than any instructor I've ever had.
Prof Kwok is by far my favorite professor in CCNY . She's very understanding and sweet. One midterm and one final and 6 pop quizzes which are based on your attendance. A research paper and writing assignments. Clear grading and syllabus. ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY!!!
Hawai is amazing. She makes class enjoyable and easy to comprehend for everyone. She is passionate about psychology and her students.
Prof Kwok is a fantastic psychology professor. She goes over topics very quickly, but if you pay attention, take notes, and study the syllabus material from the textbook, you will do well. Although she's busy, she is more than happy to help during office hours and tries to get to know each individual. She cares about the students.
I learned so much in her class. I really wish she would teach another course! Can someone make her? : ) I thought about changing my major to psychology after her course, but now that I am taking a summer psych course --- well, it is not really doing it for me.
She is a very funny woman and a great teacher. Before taking her psy course over the summer. she is one of the best professors i have had in my college experience and i dont even go to City. She really cares about her students and is always encouraging the quiet students to participate. I wouldnt mind joining the love club
She is just a miracle. She doesn't just teach you psychology but way more beyond that. Her textbook is not required as long as you take good notes. All you need to do is show up and listen/participate and she will make you interested. She has midterm/final 50 points each and one essay you can work on all semester. She really cares and is THE best!
Do yourself a favor. Just take her take her take her. She is an amazing professor. Easy A. She only gives two exams in the entire semester 1 midterm 1 final which are 50 multiple choice each and one research paper due at the end of the semester. Make sure to actively participate in class.
A professor filled with enthusiasm and passion in Psychology. With her many personal anecdotes of previous work in research, demonstrated her mastery in the core fundamentals of Psychology. For those seeking for an easy A, you will not get it by merely passively reading notes and not showing up to class. You earn it in this class.
Because of her Ive decided to co-major in psychology. Shes great and her lectures are entertaining and informative. If you go to all classes and take good notes you wont need the textbook. She cares, take her!
amazing professor, honestly one of the best classes i have taken
Hands down best professor I've ever had. She teaches so gracefully with a passion for psychology. Her research is so interesting to hear about and she genuinely cares about each of her students. Her morals and values are on point. Really funny sense of humor too. Respect is mutual, take the work seriously, PAY ATTENTION in class, and participate.
Exams are super confusing, the coursework is light but the exams do not reflect the lightness of the lectures. She has an interesting way of lecturing. Uses PowerPoint but she stopped posting them on blackboard after the first exam
The quizzes are basically extra credit. Whether you're right or wrong you get the credit. She doesn't always take attendance, but a lot of the material on the test is based off the lecture. Failed 1st and 2nd test, but final was EASY. Got 78/120 from all the exams together, still ended up getting an 80 for the class.
Professor Kwok is amazing! Every student in CCNY should take her. She a passionate professor. She talks about her daughter a lot to help us get a better understanding of her lectures and what she is trying to explain. When writing notes, make sure to jot down the examples she uses in class, it will appear on the exams. Don't need the book really
Hawai has been one of the most interesting professors I've ever had. She has amazing lectures which she relates to personal stories to help us further understand the content and connect to it. She is very caring and helps student improve their grades by adding things such as extra credits and work that challenges the student but makes them learn.
Hawai is an amazing lecturer. She explained concepts well by using examples of her own daughter. She genuinely cares about her students & their ability to understand concepts. When students failed the 1st exam, she provided a bunch of extra credit to help boost grades. 3 exams, 1 article/wk. Pop quizzes given but get 100 if you show up & sign in
Great professor! She makes sure everyone passes and gives extra credit as back up for poor exam grades. Her lectures are amazing and hard to lose concentration. I would definitely love to be in her class again.
Prof Kwok is a real gem in CCNY, she explained every detail very clearly, and her class is very interesting, plus her fascinating examples!!! She did not make the class heavy, you will get weekly assignment which only takes 15-30 mins. Two exams (not accumulated) and one paper. You will learn A LOT from her class. JUST TAKE HER!!!
Great professor! Very understanding of what students go through and is willing to help. Take notes as she goes along as they will (obviously) show up on the exams. We had assignments/to post on bb every week (1 part due on Saturdays thank God, and the other one Tuesdays) as it was hybrid. Fair grader and she knows her stuff. Wonderful human being.
her class is very inspirational, she used lots of funny examples to explain the concepts. only got a weekly assignment (just discussion board), one final paper, and two exams. You will definitely be more interested in psychology once you took her class.
I took this class summer of 2019, and I really enjoyed it. I came in dreading the fact that I had to be in school during the summer but Professor Kwok was an addition to my summer that I enjoyed very much. She is straightforward with her requirements and expectations. Test were based on lectures but reading the text book definitely helps.
Best professor at CCNY
Professor Kwok is ok. Talked a lot about herself &personal life which was distracting and unnecessary. Grading criteria is clear and fair. No tests except final, no review for final just incomplete, hard to decipher slides that she barely went over. Lots of extra credit, Quiz points given just for showing up. A lot of papers to write, boring class.
Amazing professor! Her lectures are interesting. Graded by 2 papers (one 3 pages and one 5 pages), attendance, cumulative final, & two blackboard profiles. LOTS of extra credit. Her grading criteria is clear. You also have to read an article every week. Final was easy, just study from notes and skim the textbook.
Prof. Kwok is amazing and well respected, but I got stuck with one of her TA's-CS that makes it impossible to pass. She takes points for the most silliest things. Or does not know the answers to certain questions and will say "Thats a good question" but won't answer it directly. I hate online classes and understood the circumstances we are in.
Took her during the coronavirus outbreak, she was nice, however the TA grades harshly and takes off points for every little thing. We had to move online and she only made us meet with her once a week and did not teach! She would not answer questions fully and talked about her personal life. The only good thing was not assigning a final.
Due to the class being online this semester we had only one test. The TAs are very strict graders, so make sure that there are no grammar mistakes. One research paper for the whole semester of your own choice that has to be approved by your TA. Make sure to always attend lectures and if next semester is in person do not use a laptop.
Due to the pandemic, a lot had changed. Because of the switch, it was more like the TAs were teaching us. However, before the pandemic, I did enjoy her lectures and you can tell she is passionate about what she does. You really have to read what she assigns or you won't do well, like on the test. She also does give extra credit.
She is nice and caring. Her slides could use more detail. She tries her best to make the class easy. Since classes were online we had weekly assignments and a research paper, instead of tests. Wish she would have lectured twice a week instead of once. She was very generous with extra credit and is passionate about what she teaches. Good overall!
I am confused by the comments-She lectured twice a week- with hours for review. Why do student complain about her exam. I read and studied and aced it! The online setting was tough for everyone but she was still doing everything she can to teach. She was one of the best of my prof. this semester during this horrible period.
I think she was too lenient during CONVID and many students totally took advantage of the situation. I am a post-bach student from another college and it was one of the best classes I've ever had in 4 years!!!!
Enjoyed watching, I mean, learning from her!
A Great Professor.. Take her
Kwok was an adequate professor, I would say her shortcomings come from her strong bias that heavily influences her ability to present information clearly. Additionally, she relies on lectures without powerpoints in an online format making it somewhat difficult to understand the material. I am not a fan of her teaching style.
Loved her lectures, no powerpoint, no heavy on exams, weekly quizzes on lecture. Ella was great to help with papers
One research paper broken up into part throughout the semester. Discussion posts every other week, nothing too crazy, and quizzes. Plenty of opportunity for extra credit. She provides textbook and any articles. TA's are very helpful. Lectures may be boring but good for conversation. She is also an advisor and really does care for her students
SHE IS ONE OF THE BEST PROFESSORS IN CCNY. Does not give out finals or midterms. As long as you do the research paper and answer the discussion board you should have no problem. She understands her students and gives great lectures. I RECOMMEND THIS COURSE TO ALL PSY STUDENTS.
Professor Kwok is a gem. Had her during the winter session. No finals, just 12 quizzes (5qs) she reviews before taking them and 10 short writing assignments + 2 discussion board responses per assignment. She only gave out 10 points for ec. The only downside is that she doesnt do power pts and is a little disorganized with grading.
This professor is the reason why I chose to add extra work to my load and become a double major. One of the most kind, interesting professors you will take at this school. Even if you arent interested in psychology but need an elective, take this class.
When it comes to the material for this class, it was not much. No exams, but theres 15 quizzes usually after lecture, one paper, 7 discussion boards and another writing assignment. The assignments weren't difficult. She doesn't provide slides so TAKE NOTES!! The notes will help you in quizzes and DB. The class was easy though so I would recommend.
Take this class if you are good at taking notes. Unexpected quiz will determine your intelligence and grade. Nothing else matter. I don't recommend her.
The class material is not that difficult, but she is. Unorganized and forgetful. Unclear due dates. Have to take notes for everything. Not a lenient grader, takes points off every assignment without giving any reason. She is unfair at grading overall. Learning from the textbook was so much easier than her teaching.
Free text book used! The summer class went by quickly. Professor wrote notes on Zoom and made it fun with plenty of examples and videos. No tests, no ppts slides, quizzes and writing assignments. Not stressful! Take her.
No stress at all. The quizzes are a little tricky but if you take notes in class then it is easy. I loved her lecture style no stress to go over lengthy PowerPoint. She writes as she explains concepts or draws and lets you take notes. I learnt a lot in her class.
Professor Kwok is sweet albeit disorganized but that can be due to the hyflex style of the course. The TA also was helpful but the overall chunk of your grade is the research paper and pop quizzes which are dependent on lecture notes.
She is a good teacher, very welcoming. She gives pop quizzes so you have to be in class every time. A couple of papers.
Professor Kwok is absolutely amazing. I have no words to explain how caring and how much she loves to help her students achieve their goals. She is willing to go beyond. She has helped me with my classes. Best professor at City College. I will take her again in a heartbeat.
She's a horrible professor and always act very strict. I will not recommend her to anyone.
She's a great professor, the lectures were fun and easygoing but I still learned so much and it stayed with me, you can tell she has a strictness to her but it's no issue she's still great at what she does and cares, would definitely take another one of her lectures, 100% recommend work was simple with no exams as long as you listen to the lectures
I absolutely loved Professor Kwoks lectures, but the quizzes she gave shouldn't have measured the grade that was given. I learned so much in this class and loved listening to her talk. I retained so much information, but the quizzes were not well-worded and if you aren't a great test taker, good luck!
Professor Kwok is an amazing lecturer. She gave so much inspirational on how to continue on with life. Although her tests are easy but they are given randomly. Discussion boards and a research paper. Not a hard class whatsoever.
This is the best class I've taken at CCNY. Kwok is such a dedicated professor and her passion is so evident through the way that she presents material. Lectures are conversational & she encourages student participation. She provides anecdotes that productively engage students. She is a overall just a genuine person and cares for her students deeply
Loved taking her class. She made all her lectures enjoyable and she allows so many opportunities for extra credit. Definitely an Easy A.
Professor Kwok is a great. She understands what's best for us based on the deadlines given to us. Although I have yet to take her infancy and childhood course, she already set a positive example of a professor to me since I took her PSY 102 course over the summer. Although strict, a bit of strictness is good in a professor. Def take her if you can.
Emphasizes how hard she worked for the class yet it feels like she doesn't. VERY unorganized (wrong links, vague instructions) yet she sends an email at the end telling US to read over future syllabis better. 10 assignments, paper, final, 1-2 extra credits. Her TA's doing EVERYTHING while she sits back. Treats us like we never have good intentions.
Professor Kwok is thoughtful, caring, and deeply committed to teaching. She is also attentive to students' comments. She welcomes participation. And she expects us to be prepared. And her door is always open. I highly recommend her. But no electronics in class.
Overall good professor could've given more extra credit opportunities, final wasn't easy.
Prof. Kwok is a hit or miss. She is old school and can be seen as passive aggressive to some. She does not post slides or recordings. But, this can just be her caring about her students learning abilities and wanting them to retain and apply themselves. Pay attention in lectures, complete your assignments, and you will do okay.
She is a really cool professor, she is just very strict which makes her come off as intimidating. She connects her lectures to outside stories which actually makes you understand the material better. She doesn't take attendance unless there is a quiz but she will not make an announcement of when there will be a quiz.
I LOVED professor Kwok. She uses stories about her own life to make sure you understand the topics. Her lectures are very interesting. The work load is very manageable and she gives extra credit. She also provides the textbook online for free. You must take her class!!
do not take her asynchronously. she says it herself that she illadvises people to take her asynchronous course, especially her four week psych 102. take her in person! she's so much better, and a really funny and lively person! I did not get anything out of her four week asynchronous psychology course at all. overall, avoid her asynchronous courses
Honestly this class is a mess. Her teaching style is inconsistent and disorganized, and half of the class including me are confused with what we're learning exactly and the final exam. Good luck learning anything in her class. The expectation is not clear too. Good luck!
she's all over the place with the material don't take her unless if you want anxiety or even worsen it. her expectations are sometimes unclear while having high expectations for all of us. don't you dare blame us for not doing well when its you who should had been clearer with how the class goes.
do not take her, avoid. idk how everyone likes her but me and my friends find her condescending and unclear...
amazing professor, funny and engaging, might come off as very strict but has good intentions. she even curved the final exam lol
Her teaching style is basically reading from her slides and you jotting the notes or what she says down. It wasn't a problem for me, but everyones different. I loved her stories that related to the topics ( sometimes off but thats ok ) She does come off as strict but all good intentions (NO electronics in class) Pen and Paper in this class! 10/10
Her online class is very unclear and difficult
Professor Kwok is an engaging lecturer who makes the material interesting. While the class can be challenging, using resources like Unstuck AI alongside the textbook helps a lot. Overall, a rewarding experience if you put in the effort.
She is very strict and doesn't appreciate any nonsense. However, her grading is very clear and the work is fairly easy. The final is very easy and the essays and discussion boards are straight forward. Getting an A is easy if you actually just study the slides every week if you have time and do the assignments on time.
Wouldn't take her again. Confusing and judgemental
I had the worst experience in my whole life. It was three weeks course and asynchronous. She didn't reply any email or didn't clarify any assignments and after the semester ends, she just said she was sorry. She ruined my perfect GPA. I wouldn't blame if it was my fault. It was clearly her fault and she admitted but that's didn't do anything for me
Her lecture slides are all over the place, and handwriting is terrible you can barely understand. She doesn't upload slides or anything, and doesn't let u take pictures of the slides. Adds extra questions to the exams without telling you.
Electronics aren't allowed so you have to write down the notes on a paper which isn't that bad. However, her writing isn't great at all and she moves fast for you to write down anything. Doesn't upload the slides online for those students who missed the class. Grading system is good however it could use some work.
Whoever says she is inappropriate or unfair is straight up lying. She is extremely understanding and gives the best lectures you could take at CCNY. She might be strict with her rules, but they by no means make the class difficult or unpleasant. She is very professional, and whoever is trying to ruin her reputation, shame on you.
Professor Kwok is a strict tester, and her lectures are often too intertwined with her own family life story, which distracts from the learning objective. She makes jokes and creates a relaxed atmosphere in her heavy-content courses. Be on point with your studies and post homework on time. Stay on her good side and learn all you can.
