This guy is brand new...he taugh some summer school and thats it. Very cool guy and makes class very fun. Tends to lecture really fast, but he will slow it up if you ask. I hate bio and he makes it at least somewhat interesting

Dowis is cool. He is a great teacher for this class, he laughs tells jokes and even admits if he doesn't like the chapter we are working on. He's relaxed and doesn't sweat if he doesn't know the answer. He's total cool and great at what he does. I don't know who I'd pic Olsen or Dowis for this class. I have to say I'm loving mr. d's class.

Great teacher. Clearly loves all things related to Biology and Ecology. Good, fun, easy to follow lectures. Provides notes, his PP lectures, study guides, and encourages, supports, and tutors at BioGrasp! Tests are not easy but are totally fair. All-around nice guy, great teacher, and it doesn't hurt that he's pretty cute, too!

I failed Bio the first time because it was "hard" but Mr. D def made it easy and fun to learn. Only has two exams and a final so its easy to fail but as long as you study the powerpoints and lecture notes along with the study guide and listen to lecture it will come EASY!!

Textbook use is low; take notes on the lectures and you will be fine. Gives out great study guides for tests. I never knew I liked Science until his class. He made it soooo interesting and fun. It is not easy as pie- you have to earn your grade. But those blue eyes will keep your attendance up!!! I wish I could take him for another semester- he rocks!

Im one of those students that is very lazy attendence wise and Mr.Dowis still helped me even though I would barely come to his class. I really don't like biology. One could say that I hate it. However, Dowis made learning about the urinary track interesting with stories from his own life. He's got a laid back, bio-geek attitude going on that makes you want to change your major. It's obvious that he loves what he got his degree in. Take his class and experience the Dowisness.

Bio can be a tough subject but mr d gives study guides, test specifics (like, which sections to pay close attention to) and answers any questions you may have. However if you don't make any effort, don't expect a passing grade. Stay on top of the notes, study guides and material from the start, with dowis's help, you'll have NO problems.

Mr. Dowis has to be one the best teachers at Fresno City College. He really tries to engage you through his lectures and labs. He is a true professor at heart. His workload might seem overwhelming at first and there is two mandatory field trips. But if you stay in his class and work hard you won't regret.

Mr.Dowis is very sweet and has a good down to earth sense of humor. I recommend him to any freshman at City College that are looking for a bio class class they will never be bored of or even consider using the class to catch some snoozes! I like his teaching method and by far he is great instructor among others. Test are simple straight from lectures, but some questions are little tricky to answer. Just pay attention on the lectures, do the quizzes, lab reports, and some other small assignments and don't miss any class will get you an A.

Mr. Dowis is a young relatable teacher. He is always joking around and is not too serious or reserved. What i didn't like about him was that if you miss 2 -4 classes the whole semester, you cannot get an A. Even more annoying he missed class that many times or more. Some instructions were unclearodd. Must be on your toes in this class do not miss

I was worried about getting a good instructor for biology and I also took his class as a 5 hour lab and lecture class combined that started at 7:30am. He made this class enjoyable, fun, and I was intrigued the entire the time. He has a strong passion for bio! Take his class!:)

Professor Dowis is a helpful, passionate, and a sweet person. Lecture exams are harder than lab exams. Make sure you read the book and understand the material to do well in the class. Prepare for lecture/lab quizzes which can be given any time. Go to his office hours or before class to get help! This class isn't an easy A, so you must to work hard.

Mr. Dowis was an extraordinary instructor. If I would have studied more, I would have gotten the grade I desired. This is a personal problem however. Instructor is hilarious and he really cares about his students. One quiz we had, the class did so bad, he gave us the correct answers then had us retake it. His exams are really easy, he basically gives you the answer in the choices. He also provides really good lectures, I passed this class with a high A and I didn't even buy a book!!!

Unfortunately I didn't pass his class with a C. But it was my fault. I missed class a lot. He's a really great teacher but you have to attend his classes regularly. Labs are important don't miss those. I went to every lab and turned everything in but what i failed were the test.

He gives pop quizzes at the beginning of class. You don't really need the textbooks he asks for but they do come in handy during the field trips. His test are mainly on his lectures/slides. He does mention somethings that won't be on the slides that he will test for. And he's always there if you need help. He really does care about his students.

This Instructor is amazing! If your looking to take bio3 for ge take him! He's very passionate about biology. I was never really into science until I took this course I loved it. This class is only hard if you don't show up often or study. Other than that, his class is fairly easy. A very funny teacher and he makes sure that you understand his teachings/lectures. I am taking his 7 a.m. lecture class & I have no idea how he has so much energy at this time. He is funny & makes sure you understand by giving mini follow-up quizzes during his lectures. You don't have to buy the textbook even though he tells you to. His labs are interesting, & you don't get homework. You should print lectures before class.

Professor Dowis is probably one of the most energetic professors you'll have a Fresno city. He is very passionate about what he teaches and always provides a study guide for his exams (which is extremely helpful!!) His Bio 5 class requires a lot of memorization, but if you study and attend class you should be fine. :) He also gives life tips!!

Really an amazing instructor and is hilarious and makes you want to attend the class. There are pop quizzes so always just review the lecture material before entering the class and you should be fine! He will make sure everyone understands the material and truly cares about his students and will be there for any help that Is needed.

Professor Dowis is an AMAZING professor! I would DEFINITELY recommend taking him for BIO 5, he truly cares about his students and does want everyone to truly understand the material! However, he can only do so much to help you-you have to be willing to put in the time and effort to pay attention in lecture as well as putting in the time to study!

Mr. Dowis is great. I took his class Spring 2018 and it was awesome. He doesnt assign homework because he wants his students to read the book and review the PowerPoints but even if you dont do that its fine. He does give pop quizzes but theyre simple questions. And he was lots of fun stories and makes lecture fun.

Mr. D is an amazing bio professor. Attendance is not mandatory but in order to fully understand the material you need to go to class. Do not need textbook but do need lab manual and clicker. Only "homework" given is whatever you didn't finish during lab. Provides study guides for every test and final. Highly recommend taking one of his classes.

One of the best teachers I've ever had. Very interactive class with biology presented in such a way that it is relevant even if you're not a science major. For example, he taught the biology of nutrition and diseases like cancer as well as controversial issues in biology like stem cell research.

the most import to do in this class is study. you will have 10 point pop quiz with and extra credits points the exams are the thing that you will be grade on the must so make sure you go to etc if you have it and study hard for this class

Dowis breaks everything down so nicely for you to be able to understand the material. He makes the lectures really fun and the bio book isnt necessary but the lab manual is and the clicker. Little to no homework, lecture test are a bit more difficult than lab test. I recommend him 100% one of my favorite teachers at city.

I took this class but never went to his live lectures because he is very flexible. You can always watch his lectures whenever you want to and not just that but his lectures are pretty cool because he makes them sound interesting. This by far was the easiest Bio professor I took and would totally recommend because his worksheets sometimes can be fun

Professor Dowis was easily one of my favorite professors this semester. He responded to Canvas messages well and his lectures were spot on. He provided study guides for each test, and they were everything you needed to know.

Took this class in fall 2019. BY FAR the best gen ed class I ever took. You don't have to be a bio/science major to succeed in this class (I was a commercial music major). I had professor Dowis for Bio 3 which is just your GE class that I had to take. Watching his online lectures, he is pretty funny and can explain topics well. I would honestly do the class over if I could to do it in person.

By far the greatest professor at Fresno city for bio11a. Lectures and labs were thorough. The material is a lot, but he simplifies it for you to understand. No mastering biology homework, but he does expect you to read every chapter from the textbook and comprehend it for the exams.

Good at explaining and allows multiple different arrangements if you need help in class, such as office hours, ETC, and bioGrasp. Always allows makeups. Is funny and understanding of all situations.

I took BIO 11B with Professor Dowis this semester and he is one of the best professors I've ever had. The course is hard and requires studying, but he does everything he can to make the material easier to comprehend. He also makes lectures fun with commentary! There are extra credit opportunities at the end of the semester to help bump your grade.

Dowis is incredibly helpful and concise when answering questions. He is hilarious, and his teaching style is amazing. He is passionate about science and makes the students engaged and wanting to learn. Requires a clicker, and does quizzes and points through that, and exams, but that's it. You cannot make it up if you're not there. Take this class!!

His lectures are amazing. He defo wants everyone to pass. Exams are not too difficult and he goes over a lot of the material covered there. Make yourself understand the material in the way HE teaches, not the book, then you will pass. Would take the class again

Mr. Dowis is an amazing teacher. He is very funny during his lectures and enjoys helping his students. Make sure you read his textbook chapters before lectures to understand the material better. His tests are pretty difficult if you do not study. Mr. Dowis wants you to succeed not only in his class but in life as well, and he's fun to talk to.

Loved his class. Text book is online but your mostly tested on material in lecture. Prepare to take notes, he does go fast during lecture but the slides are on canvas. will need a clicker from the bookstore. must show up if you want to get a good grade as there are pop quizzes using the clickers. Exams are easy if you come to class and take notes.

Show up to class try to not miss any lectures, he covers a lot in one class period. He does publish the lectures on canvas, but they aren't in depth. Over all a great semester with him. He's tests are multiple choice, and some essay questions.

Dowis is amazing! If you get the chance to take his class, do it! He does give a lot of quizzes, but he always lets you know ahead of time, so it's never a surprise. Just make sure you have a good study schedule, because it's easy to fall behind in this class. Exams are difficult but they're meant to be lol

Awesome class. If you are taking a BIO3 class definitely choose this one.

Mr. Dowis is an amazing professor. All you need to do to pass this class with an A is attend EVERY lecture and take notes attentively. All the exams are based on the things discussed in class. There is a group portion for each exam so make sure you choose your lab group wisely. Overall he is a very nice and funny person & makes efforts for students

Prof. Dowis was super funny and super nice. The class was so easy if you just study.
