LOVED HIM! He's a super nerd but he is really funny and his tests are really easy and simple. He is super cool and fun. Def get him as a teacher if you can.
He was soooo understanding and nice. Amazing patience and really cares about his students learning.
super tough... dont take!!
Good Teacher, class moves fast, but he will help you to the best of his ability.. I recomend him as a teacher
He's great in lecture, but if you need any help at all, you're screwed. He hates teaching non math majors, and he hates teaching low level classes. the GTF's were all pretty useless too except for two. and even if you work your butt off there's no extra credit. I had to spend 8 hours a week in GTF office hours just to get a B. it's pretty absurd.
terrible teacher. tests are really hard, and so is his grading style
Presents clear examples to questions. I actually understood math and its my worse class. Incorporates the class as a whole very often. Sometimes brings in his daughters to class (whom are adorable) and doesn't like to wear any patterned shirts. Really funny. Teaching style probably gets worse in higher level math classes.
This class is one of the hardest offered, but he makes it as bearable as it can be. He goes piece by piece into concepts to help you understand, and his outside of class help is exceptional...if you use it.
Absolutely adored this guy! He's fantastic. SO helpful. I got a 30 percent on the readiness quiz, and with his help I ended up with an A in the class. Always hated math when I was younger, and I'm so grateful that I had him. If you have to take Math 111 TAKE THIS CLASS.
Was always available to answer questions via online, but in class he was often condescending towards students. In the end, I went to every class, but learned about 90% of the material using the textbook.
Horrible. Midterm nothing like what he taught in class and its worth 35% of your grade. He won't curve it either even though most people did bad. Half the class has dropped out. I used to do well in Math and got an a in 111 but couldn't pass this class. Do not take this class with him as the professor.
First off, Calculus to a non-major is highly ambiguous - having a teacher that attempts to teach it to 500 students isn't practical either. Hayden did his best, he's a little OCD and doesn't seem to care what your grade is; no class curve. It is a highly unorganized course; 3 different sources for your homework. This class needs help. Good luck.
I'm not sure why Hayden has gotten negative ratings - he's a really great teacher. I'm not a huge math person, but he teaches very well, answers questions, and is very fair. All homework and exams were due online. I highly recommend him to anyone.
If you do all your homework and study for the quizzes you should do fine in the class. The quizzes and homework are a lot like the midterms. If you have any questions email him or go to his office hours. The class is hard, but math is always hard. Hayden does his best to be clear and help everyone understand. He really does want everyone to pass.
He seemed very cool and interesting at the beginning but then as the term went on he became more and more tough. He also gives a quiz every week and has very hard midterms
Like earlier people have said, he seems cool the first week, and seems like he cares until the first midterm, then your on your own. Online Homework is impossible and nothing like he teaches in class.
Really not helpful when teaching. I honestly learned more from the GTF. Harker seems to think that he can teach us how to do everything in class only in Excel, but there is no excel on the final. He rarely shows you how to do things without using excel. Stay away.
Hayden is an awesome instructor, I don't care what anyone says. He wants his students to do well and gave us the opportunity to replace a midterm score with the same score as our final exam. Quizzes were tough. The only hw was webwork and exam questions were a lot like webwork problems. I would definitely sign up for his classes again.
Webwork is different from stuff we do in class. He likes to teach why instead of how. He wants his students to learn why something works. I just didn't care about why. I wanted to know how to do it, take the test, and never do math again. He's a nice fella though.
Hayden is an awesome guy with good humor. He is a fine math teacher but you really have to go to class to do well because he assigns excel homework which is impossible to complete unless you get the "codes" that he writes down in lecture. I thought math243 was pretty easy with him and i recommend him
Hayden is a great teacher with an awesome attitude. Especially for a statistics class that can be boring, he keeps the energy up. It is definitely necessary to go to class unless you are a pro at teaching yourself. Also, some of the excel based homework is hard because he doesn't teach you how to specifically use excel. But the course load is fair
Best math teacher I have ever had
Hayden did a great job teaching stats. He is funny yet descriptive in his teaching. He does a good job.
On the first day, he may seem a bit off-putting, but hes actually a really nice teacher. He wants you to pass his class, so if you are struggling he will definitely help you. Go to his office Hours, he will extend some of the homework if he knows you are trying. Somewhat hard class, with weekly homework. For a mandatory business class, its not bad
I would not recommend taking an online Stats class. For me, it was really confusing and I found that getting help with the work was even harder. That being said, there is help available. Office hours and discussion sections helped me a lot! Webwork (the online homework) sucks and needs precise answers. There isn't too much of a workload though.
This is one of my favorite professors i've ever had. He not only has a sense of humor, but he teaches his class in the easiest way possible. His notes are clear and his homework stays true to what he teaches. Obsessed with him.
Hayden is a great calculus instructor, although with just 50 minutes for each class he sometimes has to go through a topic with only one or two examples. That said, if you have questions he is very accommodating with office hours. Exams are pretty tough, but if you know the material you will pass, its just that an A or B is going to be tough.
Cool guy and is very helpful. He attempts to make lectures interesting and is very clear when going through problems. Funny guy too
One of my favorite UO professors. Clear, simple, conversational lecture style. Very friendly and approachable. Would take this guy for any class.
A lot of webwork and excel, not super helpful. Tests are hard.
Funny guy. Homework is alright, some weeks is harder than others. Learn how to use your TI 84 (Tests functions) since he doesent teach you, but it is way easier to do it from your calculator. Tests are pretty tough since the whole first part is fill in the blank which surprisingly tough. Webwork is a joke since you need to be exactly right.
The downfall of tests is a couple of problems anywhere from 16-20 points. If you don't know how to do one of those it can make or break you. Tests are actually reasonable and fair.I hated the excel hw you have to do which is 10% of your grade which ended up lowering mine in the end since I struggle with excel. He won't show you how to use a calc
Hayden is great but his tests are extremely hard. I did great on all homework but did terribly on the midterm and final. 50 min for a 4 page midterm. Barely passed.
He's slightly intimidating at first but he's an incredible teacher if you go to office hours for help and he's so willing to help even right after class. He was engaging in class and taught very well.
I am so glad that I was able to have him as my Calc prof this term. He is extremely helpful, but you will need to work to get a good grade. Lectures are very conversational and makes sure everyone understands what is going on.
A great teacher, super friendly and helpful. Go to his office hours if you have any questions, I highly recommend it. I really struggle with math, and I still passed. If you study hard and do your homework, you'll be fine. He will grade on improvement (which is how I passed :D). An awesome teacher, I wish I could take him for all my math classes.
Harker provides inadequate explanations for material and, although easily accessible outside of class, the aid he provides can't necessarily be classified as help. The textbook is essential for people new to stats and discussions are the only place where you'll actually learn anything. Use the resources available and don't procrastinate.
Harker is honestly a down-to-Earth professor. He really puts time and effort into his students success. I only had him for a math lab he was teaching, but he still made me fall in love with math all over again. His lectures are extremely interesting, and beware, he can be a bit eccentric at times. He makes sure every student feels important to him!
Great professor, he let me into the class despite not technically having the prerequisites necessary to take the class. Definitely not an easy professor (lots of homework and lots of information), but he will help you if you ask for help and it's worthwhile taking his class.
Don't take him if you can help it. Doesn't teach calculator but you can use it on tests if you figure it out yourself. Does not do a good job of explaining material. The excel homework is graded extremely toughly, and it hard to do especially if you don't understand excel. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!
Hayden is great during lectures and even better during office hours. Homework is heavy in his classes, but when it comes time to test the work load really pays off. Show up during office hours and he will gladly break it down for you. His tests are designed not to be curved, so don't expect that to save you.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HAYDEN AS THE PROFESSOR. I've always got an A in my classes and I'm currently failing this class. He gives midterms that do not resemble the homework and have like 10 problems, so if you don't know a problem it is weighted very heavily. He doesn't curve tests and homework (all three types)are only worth 10%of your grade.
He doesn't explain the content well, he does everything super fast, and he expects you to know things he hasn't taught. Around 90% of the class has no idea whats going on. The tests are not reflective of the homework we receive, so it is nearly impossible to know what to study for. I highly recommend getting a tutor if you want to pass this class.
The lectures and homework are nothing like the tests, and the class is blindsided when they receive the midterm and see things that we haven't covered in class. He also doesn't "believe" in curves, while other Math 241 professors curve 15%, we're left with a disadvantage just because of the professor. I've taken calc before and this is way harder.
Good guy just not a good teacher. You can't be adamant on not having a curve if both midterms have a not passing mean grade. I have never spent so much time on a class to do so poorly. Don't take unless you have to and if you do get ready for a long quarter.
I don't feel my classmates give Hayden enough credit. Hayden is an excellent instructor and he's very kind and caring. If you put in the work and the time, you will pass this class, it's not impossible. I see Hayden in office hours at least once a week and he's also given me points back on both midterms. Go see him, you can pass. Favorite teacher!
Makes material way more complicated then it needs to be. Hardest tests
Hayden is a great teacher but that can be tough to deliver to such a big class. The tests are very hard but you will learn the content.
Hayden Harker is the worst professor I have taken at the University of Oregon. His lectures were scattered and rarely covered what the homework was on and the homework did not correlate with the tests. Additionally the averages for the midterms were a D- and a F and the final average was a F yet he still did not curve the class or any of the tests.
Hayden Harker's lectures were scattered and rarely covered what the homework was on and the homework did not cover what was on the tests. Additionally the averages for the midterms were a D- and a F and the final average was a F yet he still did not curve the class or any of the tests. Do not take math with this professor. Wait for another term.
This was the hardest class I've ever taken, and not because of the content. This professor completely fails to prepare you for your exams. The homework was from 3 sources, and none of the sources were sufficient preparation. The exam averages were always failing and there was never a curve. Even if it means waiting a term, find another professor.
Goes through material way too fast, once made 3 mistakes in a row because of that and was called out by students. Most of the class was clueless and there were so many in office hours I wasnt even able to ask a question. Averages for the exams were D, F, and F. After enjoying his stats class I'm still shocked he was so bad with this calc class.
I still have nightmares about Hayden's Math 241 class Fall 2017.. Spent over $500 in tutors to pass this class. My new 242 teacher is a blessing. Don't take Hayden for business calculus. Traumatizing...
Worst professor I've had at the U of O so far. What he tries to teach in class is nothing compared to what you get for homework. His class is one of the few instances where you feel the lectures are truly pointless because what he lectures won't be on the homework.
I was very scared going into this class because I read the ratings on Hayden beforehand. But, if you go to class, take good notes, and stay on top of your homework, it's not too hard to pass. I generally understand math so if you have always struggled with the subject then I'd suggest taking a lower level first. But don't let the ratings scare you!
If you want to regret even being born, take Hayden Harker. This man does not teach, he only gets to class to start doing random example problems on the projector without even explaining it to you. I'd rather get caught in a tornado and thrown off a cliff than sit through even one minute of his classes ever again. TAKE PRICE
Professor Hayden seemed to be more concerned about going through the course material than actually helping students learn and understand. He goes through material really fast and skips a lot of important things, including the basics that students need to learn before moving on to new stuff. Doesn't curve and is a really tough grader.
Honestly, professor Hayden is a genuinely nice person. I didn't like him that much until I got to sit down and talk with him outside of class. He may seem like a terrible person in class but really isn't. I think people should go to his office hours more often. I felt really bad about saying on my evaluation that he didn't care about students.
Everyone in my class hated on Hayden. I will admit, he's a hard professor, but in the end he really makes sure you know the material. Get ready for a lot of dry humor.
Hayden has been the best math teacher I've had at U of O. He is down to earth and really wants his students to succeed and master the material. I would totally take a class with him again, his lectures are helpful and he has a super dry sense of humor. Overall great professor!
Easy A. BUT, picky grader, webwork is easy but due multiple times a week, and tests have a lot of weirdly asked questions. My GE wasn't very helpful so my stats discussion was a pain to go to every week. Hayden was chill. Added bonus that webwork is extra credit over 90% and clicker questions only require you go to class about half the time.
Though I did not do well in this class, I do not blame Hayden. He is caring, understanding and easy to reach outside of the classroom. Overall great professor, straightforward teaching style and funny too. Take his class ! But be prepared to study and work for a good grade as you would in any other course.
I liked hayden a lot. When theres an easier way to o things he explains it rather than making you do it by hand. Although the excel assignments are annoying they help buffer your grade from just tests. He takes attendance by iclicker but you get extra credit for getting answers right so you dont have to go to every class for full credit.
Hayden is a good professor and has solid lectures, you can easily pass this class with work; he gives you all the necessary materials. His demeanor is brash and abrasive, he might be trying to be funny but it comes across as if he doesn't care about his students. I avoided his office hours because of this, went to my GE's office hours.
Hes okay as a lecturer. However, didnt give us clear instructions on how to do Excel Hw, and it was stressful because he was a slow grader. Short answer problems on Exams were pretty fair, but the fill in the blanks section were always full of some surprises.
Class was fine, pretty typical - the usual. But the final exam, however, was a totally different story. Class average 66% - but he wont curve a class. Was not super approachable but thankfully the GEs were more helpful.
In spite of the difficult tests and homework, I can't help but really appreciate him. His lectures are clear and thorough, even if the tests can be surprisingly hard. I had about a 40% in the class, but since i got a C on the final, that's what he gave me--no email or anything. That meant a lot when i was going through a tough time.
Enjoy his class so much! Super funny and nice professor. He is super helpful and nice if you go to his office hour to ask him question.
This is my second time to take his class. Such a nice person.
I absolutely despise math however professor Harker made this course tolerable. He was easy to communicate with, helpful and explained things in such a way that a rarely had to refer to the textbook. Id take him again for sure.
Hayden was the best stats teacher. He was always available to answer any questions, and his office hours are super helpful. He doesn't require that we use the textbook but it does come in handy if you need further explanation.
Always helpful in office hours
I'll be honest, I think stats is a bit boring. That being said, Hayden's online lectures were great and I was able to get an A- without it being too bad at all.
Was worried about taking calculus online, but it was actually relatively easy if you do the homework and ask questions when you need help on it. Prof. Harker seems a bit intimidating, but he's really nice and is always down to help out. Live lectures were all recorded. Questions on exams & quizzes were not as difficult as the hw, & were very fair.
Hayden is a great professor! He teaches stats in a very clear and simple way that was easy to follow. He's clear on expectations, deadlines, grades, etc. He's always willing to answer questions in lecture, office hours, whenever - very helpful. Also caring about his students, he was willing to extend a deadline or get you help you need.
Professor Harker is a great professor. There are some flaws, though. If you want to pass, you must pay attention to the lectures that he posts, and he won't always help; he is more of a "read the ____ days lecture," but if you go to office hours, he helps. I found the class challenging because of the precise details that he looks for.
Class consists of pre-lecture vids (content), lecture covers examples. Open to answering questions and explains fairly well. Weekly quizzes but pretty easy bc they're similar to the weekly WS done during discussion. Covers material kind of quickly/may lack depth so refer to textbook. Tests always have a couple hard questions thrown in.
Harker is an interesting person and obviously cares about math. He lectures with specific examples and goes fairly fast. Sometimes he does not explain the "why" of what you are doing however, the nature of the large statistics course made it difficult to ask questions in class. I ended up learning a lot from going to my GEs office hours.
3 Sets of Webwork a week due on Monday,Wednesday and Friday with a weekly quiz on Fridays, and 3 exams. Very do-able as long as you pay attention. Hayden is a very interesting character, (little bit passive aggressive) but he is very caring and tries to answer everyone's questions. Very clear with his explanations. 10/10 recommend.
Unless you really enjoy math, do not take this class. Webwork was super irrelevant to exam and written HW material, and his lectures were not helpful. I was insanely confused for the entire class, despite trying really hard to figure things out. He doesn't explain well and gives irrelevant examples. Try to take this class with a different prof.
Very accommodating teacher and understanding about students' lives. The only time new material was taught was through Panaptos which would range from 10 to 30 minutes. His lectures were primarily just review. The tests ranged in difficulty but if you understand the WebWork you will be fine in this course.
Prof Harker was kind, but this class was ridiculously hard. I thought I understood the content of the lectures, but when it came time for homework/exams, they didn't correlate. Not enough examples were given in the lectures, and the few examples given didn't help with coursework. I did bad on one exam and went from a 92% to a 72% and failed...
This class was probably the easiest math class I have ever taken, I stopped going to class about halfway through and ended with an A+. Harker is very good about going through the material very diligently and also multiple times over so a great professor!
Not a bad teacher, just uses the worst, most unforgiving test and homework systems imaginable.
If you are taking STATS, you should really try to get Harker as your prof. I failed stats in hs due to a horrible teacher, but Harker made it so easy to understand. He explains concepts really well. He is also very organized. Would recommend!
The notes he took in class were never any help outside of class as most of his explanations came from him lecturing. The level of difficulty between what we had in webwork and on the test was pretty big. We had a textbook but never really used it. He knows that the class is hard and says that himself but doesn't try and help make it easier.
I never thought my two hour math class would feel like 20 minutes. He is a very good speaker and is very easy to retain information from. He understands that math can be difficult and gives many opportunites to get help. I enjoy his lectures very much.
I took regular stats in HS and then AP stat my senior year. Never understood either year. Took 243 w Harker and he is honestly a great teacher. He can be kind of dry, but the people who gave him bad reviews here don't know how to take a joke. He won't give you straight up answers, but will guide you to it. SUPER patient. Take his stat class!!
At first, I was terrified of professor Harker, but he ended up being my favorite prof of the term. He's clear on what's expected of you and what you need to study outside of class. He genuinely cares about his students and is also just a cool guy. Tests are a big chunk of the grade, but he's very clear on what he expects on them. Great prof and guy
Very chill guy. Fun to be around and hard to find a reason to dislike him once you disassociate him with the horrible subject that is math. Apart from attendance he treats you like an adult which is nice, and while he has rules he isn't exactly hellbent on babysitting adults. Definitely a good teacher for math101 at the very least.
hes actually the worst professor I've ever had.
This class is hard and Hayden teaches it alright but I wish it was more organized. He's a little sassy but if you come to office hours you'll do well and he gives good feedback. His assignments are clear but this class requires a lot of time outside of lectures, it is really confusing. Your grade is more dependent on your GE
I will never take another class by Hayden. Sitting through his class was one of the most difficult things I've ever done. I eventually understood the material and did well in the class, no thanks to him (God bless Frank, my class encore leader). Seen him laugh at students when they asked a question. Get the textbook, you don't need it but it helps.
I don't care about what people say about professor Harker, he was fantastic. Keeping in mind this is a really hard class, if you listen and participate, and do the HW, you will pass. Favorite math professor I've had.
Great teacher if you show up and put in the effort. Skipping lectures will put you behind but the grading is pretty generous. There where 4 tests with the lowest one being dropped WebWork, and attendance can count for extra credit.
Do yourself a favor and skip Hayden's class if you can. He "doesn't believe" in curving grades, so by taking him you're already putting yourself at a -7-10% grade disadvantage. 0/10 would not recommend.
I do not even know if I can properly evaluate this professor because he did not actually teach the class. There was no real lecture or anything, he just gave us worksheets and homework and had us figure it out on our own. I found the class to be incredibly unhelpful and wish there was more structure. He acted like he did not want to be there.
Bleh avoid #borrrinnggggg
I want to start by saying I am NOT a math person. But I feel Harker does a really good job of providing as many opportunities for students as he can to help boost their grade. Only 2/3 exams count towards your grade, 2 lowest quizzes dropped, only 90% of webwork needs to be completed to get a 100% and the rest counts as EC. Go the encore sessions!
Textbook is a free download online. You don't even need to attend the lectures if you read the textbook. Webwork 2-3x/week and a Friday quiz every week. Only 90% of Webwork needs to be completed, the rest is EC. 2 midterms and a final, two highest scores get taken. Two lowest quiz scores dropped as well. I didn't even have to take the final.
Great teacher and provides lots of resources to help boost your grade. He definitely can be intimidating and sassy, he is a bit eccentric, but he wants the best for his students and he is very helpful when you are struggling.
I don't know what it was about Harker, but I really enjoyed this class. He is sarcastic and sometimes brutally honest/rude but I honestly enjoyed that from a math professor because it pushed me to understand the concepts better. If you don't do well with criticism, maybe he isn't your guy, but I thought he was funny and I enjoyed the concepts.
Hayden throws the concept or theory at you AND then good luck with the homework honey!!! There is so much homework it almost made me want to drop (off a cliff) also all he tests on is z score and p values. He is obsessed with excel...
has a weird obsession with Excel and other spreadsheet websites. uses them every lecture but doesn't teach you how to use them but then expects you to learn how to use them to complete the 2 projects we have and randomly assigns impossible webwork questions that wouldn't be possible without using the software. doesn't believe in curving grades...
I signed up to take a statistics course, not an excel course. I spent more of time learning what he wanted us to do on excel than learning stats. I also learned significantly more from the GE's than I did from him. Shoutout to Hannah, she was great.
Sassy, a little off-putting, but the best option for elementary stats after hearing about other teachers. Explains things relatively well and is available for office hours. Assigns projects that rely heavily on Excel, but did not teach us how to use Excel at all. But it's pretty easy to get an A in the class if you do the work.
Professor Harker was definitely my favorite professor this term. He was excited to teach every day, answered questions thoroughly, and explained concepts well. As long as you do the homework and come to class, you'll do good. He is also very accessible outside of class. Overall, amazing guy and a great teacher.
Assigns projects that rely heavily on Microsoft excel, but does not bother teaching students how to use Microsoft excel. Very harsh late work penalty, will not hesitate to give 0s on major assignments. Gives no retests under any circumstances. Be wary of deadlines or you could tank your grade in a day.
He doesn't give any formulas for his exams, that's why the rating I give him. His voice gets boring after a while, but isn't that any other math class? I would still recommend him over other professors though. Almost every MWF there is a Webwork due which was annoying.
Hayden was one of the best professors I have had for math. If you have the opportunity to take his stats class do so. If you pass the two midterms you don't have to take the final. He explains everything very well.
Hayden is not a mean person but can come off that way to some people. He's a very straight to the point person and moves on to the next topic. He can be pretty speedy when he goes through content in his lectures. But as long as you keep up with the homework and pay attention, you should be fine for the exams.
he goes really fast- at his own pace. He doesn't help you learn in different ways, in case you don't understand. It's only his way of doing math and most of his discussion classes are early in the morning You may ask for help but he doesn't understand what you are not getting from his lectures.
Think of the definition of a "goofball" or "silly duck". That's this guy. He is actually really good at teaching; he keeps his lectures very easy to understand without crowding them with a ton of BS. Going to his office hours feels unpleasant; he will yell at you, asking why on God's green earth would you not understand the material. Good teacher.
Chill guy but lots of the homework covers material you haven't learned yet so you need to teach yourself
Hayden is much better than the rating he has been given by some students. He does not require attendance but you definitely need to go to class if you want to fully understand the material. He does use excel a decent amount as others have said but he also shows you how to do the same stuff without excel which I think is pretty fair. rate 7/10
I did not like this man at all.
This professor is amazing and very wise!! He goes a little fast, but he explains things well and is easy to understand if you can keep up. I took, Statistics in high school and did not understand much, but I finally got clarity on many many topics from him!!
Overall, the professors redeeming quality is how he drops 2 quizzed, 4 home works, 2 discussions, and you don't need to take all three exams if you do well on the first two. He goes way to fast and I had to teach myself the content. He used excel for the project which makes it 100 times worse because he won't show you what to use in excel for it
I had an insanely hard time trying to learn anything out of this class. His style of teaching relied on you asking for help, he basically taught nothing and left the last 10 minutes of class to "teach". I struggled but persisted--I went to encore tutoring and the knight libraries tutoring to finish anything from this class. WOULDN'T RECOMMEND.
Hayden is a funny guy. His STAT243Z class was super easy.
Hayden was a great professor if you're willing to put in the work to practice the concepts outside of class. He does a great job in class of explaining the concepts and how to do the problems, but there aren't many example problems. So, it is important you work hard on the homework because the tests are almost example the same as the homework.
Hayden is a straightforward professor who moves quickly through content. While his lectures can be dry, staying on top of the homework and paying attention pays off. I found Unstuck ai and the GE's notes helpful for study prep.
Really knowledgable and one of the best math professors you'll find
So bad, all he talkes about is death and how he plays pinball! He really doesnt care how anyone does in the course and basically your entire grade is based on exams.
Great professor if you are willing to actually show up and put in effort. His lectures were a little boring, and he didn't have many examples, so it's important to study outside of class. His tests are difficult and a little long, but very similar to the examples in his lectures and hw. Overall, a funny guy and a good teacher.
Every test has an online portion as well. Quiz every week (lowest 2 dropped), you won't learn anything unless you go to tutoring. Including online exams, there are 5 total exams which strongly impact your grade. Discussion sections are practically useless. I have not met a single student who enjoys Harker's class, good luck with this course.
Intentionally makes his written tests more difficult than other stats professors because he wants to feel special. Avoid at all costs
Hayden is a funny guy with lectures that always entertain me. Definitely take advantage of office hours and email. He's pretty lenient and drops a lot of grades at the end of the class. Timed quizzes once a week and written portions of midterms absolutely require studying, especially the 2nd one.
Me and my friends loved Hayden he's a great professor you MUST attend lectures to understand the class the only downside to Haydens class is his posted lecture slides make no sense unless you attend the class. If you just pay attention write notes and study you can pass. Use E-book to help study and find study groups makes it a lot easier.
Grade weights were ridiculous. Three HWs each week and they are only worth 8% of your grade. 75% of your grade is from exams. Do not take if you are a bad test taker. Harsh grading on written answers and is very stingy with partial credit. In terms of lecture he's fine. Does lots of examples but they look different from the exam questions.
Decent professor. Class is very test and quiz heavy which requires alot studying. Makes some exam questions difficult to understand
He was not a good teacher. I went to every lecture and did every homework assignment and still did not ever feel like I grasped the material. He was very passive aggressive and cynical, and made us learn it both on excel and written calculations, which was double the amount of work as opposed to just choosing one way to teach it. Would not recommen
Show up to class if you want to pass this class. Hayden is a really funny teacher who explains stats concepts pretty well. The project and test criteria are layed out clearly if you are in class. Some of the lecture content is difficult to digest by the lecture alone and I had to spend a lot of time reviewing outside class. Lots of online homework.
