A student here. A nice Prof in personality but not with the tests. This is a hard class and he makes every single tests tricky enough and the class over for all the tests are 60s. That's a D. Spent 3 hours everyday reading and office hours, still won't make it any easier. He always cram for the test which is terribly wrong Wouldn't recommend him.
I was originally so excited to take this class, not anymore! He reads straight of the slides, which would be ok if he added more knowledge on the matter. He gives no review guide, and to make it worse he changes his format on each test. Which makes a tricky subject even harder. You have no idea what to study, so good luck.
I used to love anything science related ... Not anymore . Each test is set up differently and no review is provided. Feelin like a failure, never have I studied so hard for bad grades
Gives a lot of opportunities to his students to excel, but ensures that they earn it, as it should be.
There is no doubt in my mind that Haydn is a smart man, but he honestly is not meant for teaching. though the material in the class wasn't impossible, I fealt like there was no guidance at all during his short lectures. There is NO review sheets for he final or midterm, and almost lo guidance for the papers as well. I don't reccomend this prof.
I have him for Cell Meta and Genetics lab. He's cool Cell meta: HARD. Formatting of tests are bad. Questions are not worded well. Tries to pack a lot of material into one test without explaining the slides well. Genetics: HARD. Should be the easiest biology lab but it turned out to be the hardest for me. I don't procrastinate and I still sweat
He might know genetics well, but his teaching style and the way he interacts with students needs a lot of improvement. His provides no clear expectations of what he wants to see when grading papers. And if you have questions, or dare to send him an email asking for clarification, his responses are very rude&derogatory. Would never take again
Way too harsh to be teaching a one credit lab. His expectations are much higher than your most difficult 3 or 4 credit courses. Unfair final. Highly do not recommend.
If I could give a zero for clarity I would. He is funny but he is boring with lectures. When you ask a question he either doesn't give clear answer or is actually rude. He doesn't provide review. And exam is cumulative so we are screwed. I do not recommend .
As far as professors go Dr. Rubelmann if the worst I have had in my 4 years at USF. -Is extremely rude to his students, & answers questions with demeaning replies. -Unfair & arbitrary grading criteria This is a LAB but finals look graduate core course finals. -His demeanor tells he students that he has no desire to be teaching.
I have nothing but good things to say about Dr. Rubelmann. The courses he teaches are challenging and rigorous, so be prepared to work hard for that A. As an instructor, I always found him approachable , any questions I had about the coursework were always answered. Overall, having him as a professor has been a rewarding experience!
Dr. Rublemann undoubtedly knows genetics, and he can be funny. But at the same time he is often condescending towards his students and is rude when asked a question. His examsquizzes are unclear. His paper requirements are even more vague, considering that he is a rough lab grader. Though I'm sure he means well, he does not make a good teacher
He was only my professor for about 3 weeks because he was filling in for my usual professor, but for the short time that he was the instructor, his lectures were extremely helpful, clear, and his main points really helped connect the dots on some topics that i wasn't fully understanding.
I thought Haydn was an excellent TA, especially because he's really laid back and made me chuckle a lot. During each class he explicitly explained the needed information, and would tell you "make sure you know that for the final", which was nice. His final was pretty tough, but if you know the material then it's not too bad and you should be fine.
His lectures are not bad, but his final& quizzes are rough. He does NOT outline what he is looking for in the Lab reports, and grades them really specifically. You also better be paying attention while he is talking because he will randomly pick on you to answer a question. He can be really snarky and rude too if you email him or ask him a question
So I hate being harsh but what the heck? What proffessor sees his class is not spoil too hot and goes ahead and adds 3 chapters to the already cumulative final , almost 30 chapters ! He is funny but changes each test so you never know what material will be on test. Because of him I'm changing my major !
This is the only time Iv agreed with these reviews. Although his personality is very engaging I learn nothing . My grades in other classes are suffering due to my dedication to this class, which I still do horrible. His attempt of a review is made by students with equally bad grades. He does not help you succeed whatsoever. Plus he is rude
great teacher , learned alot, keeps it interesting
I find him so funny in lectures. Anytime I have asked for help or clarrification he is willing to help. Now my only regret is that he does give reviews. In fact today he gave an amazing review, lets hope it correlates with the final. I wish he would have done that each test, I know we would have all done so much better in the class.
He is hilarious. However, if you are not a proactive and productive student. He will let you know. He has a passion for what he does.
Haydn made genetics easy and was always available to help if you needed it. He tells you exactly what is required on lab reports and grades things fairly. Warning: the final exam is tough! Read and study the notebook religiously before the final.
I thought the delivery of material was excellent. I would definitely recommend this professor. He brings a certain inspiration to the class and cracks an occasional joke. I found the lectures moved quickly. I hope to take one of his classes again.
Dr. Rubelman is perhaps one of the hardest professors I have ever taken. Although he is a nice guy I believe he forgot how it is to be an undergraduate. His idea of review has nothing to do with the tests and his tests are really specific. That being said his tests are incredibly difficult if you are even slightly confused on anything.
Haydn is honestly amazing! He's so funny and chill. He is the most hipster professor you will ever get to meet. He focuses on the important information in class, so if you come you will do really well. He uses clickers too so you need to come anyway!
Took during summer semester, so everything was fast paced and basically covered an entire chapter every lecture. However, he made everything very clear and only covered the material necessary for the exams. Homework is super easy, and helps greatly for preparing for the exams.
Study. You'll be fine.
He is a great professor who makes lectures fun. He always has witty comments or jokes that make a 2 hour class bearable. Always expresses interest in the course material.
He lectures pretty good if you have a questions he's willing to answer it. The fact that this is a summer class means longer lectures but it was still pretty good. His tests are specific to what you learn most in class but he tells you exactly what you need to study most of. Lots of Clickers.
Great class, very interesting and dynamic. If you pay attention in his lecture you barely need to just refresh your knowledge for the exam and will be ready. The exams are fair.
Haydn is very honest with his students about what to expect on the exams and does his best to ensure that he covers the material well in advance. His willingness to make a long lecture (Because it is a Short Summer Semester) fun and interesting makes us want to come to class. The exams are easy! Read & Review Power Points & you should get an A.
Haydn is such a great professor! He is so clear and his tests are straight to the point. He uses clickers and is funny so go to class!
He is a very knowledgeable professor and you can tell that he is very patient and excited about the work that he does, and wants to share it with the students.
Dr. Rubelmann gives a great lecture although for the most part he sticks to reading the powerpoints he expands once in while that keeps your attention, usually those are key items that pop up on the tests. Regarding the tests, they are difficult if you are not prepared. You can not survive his class off the lecture slides. You MUST read the book .
Taking this class for summer and although it is fast paced & long lectures, the class is still doable. Haydn is truly passionate about the material! Attendance is mandatory(clickers). Homework is easy, based solely on completion. Tests are not bad, if you read the chapters thoroughly (answers are straightforward)! Extra credit opportunity provided!
He is endearing, empathetic, and passionate. He paces the class well, and more importantly he speaks well and can expand on subjects from the top of his head. There is an extra credit opportunity but you have to work for it. Homework works in your favor. Go to class for participation points and for a directed guide for what may be on the test.
This class is taught extremely well and I have no other credit to give than to this professor. He is honest and helpful. Go to class and make flashcards for tests. Speaking of tests, they are honestly the most straightforward tests I've ever taken. I've never taken a bio class with tests that ask definitions. I'm happy with this professor.
I don't even like biology that much but this professor made it so interesting and worthwhile to come to class! It was difficult choosing what to tag for his rating, because he gives amazing lectures, he is hilarious, I would take him again, participation matters, you can expect homework (but it's helpful) and you need to read.
Professor Rubelmann is experienced, funny, and knowledgeable about the material taught in this course. He will go in-depth to explain concepts, and is readily available for questions. The homework is helpful, and tests are fair. Overall, good class. Just a little advice, the tests are based on the material in the book. READ THE BOOK.
Haydn is an awesome professor! He is very clear about what he expects from his students and makes sure that everyone knows what to study in order to pass the tests. His tests are tough but if you take the time to study they are not hard to pass. I would definitely take any of Haydn's classes again. His spirit definitely makes class enjoyable!
Dr. Rubelmann is a good teacher. He is really chill and has a cool personality. His tests aren't that easy, but they aren't impossible. Study (read the book, read the PowerPoints, and do the homework) and you'll be fine. He uses iClicker's for review and for attendance. Also, the homework requires the textbook so don't cheap out for this class.
I wish he could teach all of my science classes! He is organized, intelligent, and overall impressive as a professor. Tests are what you would expect, just study. Homework can be long but helps in the long run. Iclicker questions are your best friend.
I read through all of Professor Haydn's old ratings and it sounds like the professor I am taking is a completely different person! He is friendly, helpful, and empathetic - in no way do I find him condescending or rude. He gives 4 tests and a final, iclicker questions, weekly homework, and extra credit that is often due with the homework.
I would recommend him to any undergrad who needs a good biology professor!
Dr. Rubelmann is a phenomenal professor. He is very knowledgeable on the subject and makes class bearable with his jokes. He explains everything so that you understand it. His tests are straightforward, completely from the textbook. If you do not do well that is your own fault, he gives you all the resources you need to pass. Fav professor so far!
The only people that could find this class too hard are the few students that decide to talksleep through the lecture and only show up for clicker questions. And then they must be too busy doing the things they were discussingdreaming during class to study later because you only have to know 2-3 chapexam. The other 95% of us enjoy the class.
Professor Rubelmann was exceptional at using different teaching styles so all class members can identify and understand the material. He expects all members to participate and makes the course challenging. He provided each lab group individual attention and assistance. You can tell he is an expert in his field. He made a tough course enjoyable.
Tests are easy as long as you study and read the textbook. He assigns extra credit weekly. Lectures are interesting and funny at most times. Clickrs are used.I would recommend Rubelmann to anybody interested in taking Bio II. He's a very nice and smart professor that actually knows his information unlike most science professors at USF.
Prof. Rubelmann is awesome! He's a very cool and laid back. Expect lots of homework for this class, normally takes 30-45 minutes per chapter. He's always encouraging his students to see him during office hours for any questions. He uses clickers for this class, so don't be late! Attendance is a must! Those clicker points will help you in the end!
Dr. Rubelmann is a great professor. He is very enthusiastic and definitely keeps the students interested in the material. The only downfall is that his tests are hard. He doesn't give test reviews. The only thing he gives are "in class clicker review questions", and that is supposed to help you for the test. You have to know everything for the test
If you read the chapters a couple times and thoroughly understand the main concepts his tests are a breeze.
Dr. Rubelmann is an excellent professor! His passion about the subject really shows through his lectures and he actually made me enjoy attending class. The tests were as expected and as long as you read the textbook, attend class, and of course study you will get an A. Also he has great style, which is an added bonus!
Professor Rubelmann was fantastic. He made lectures fun and easy to understand. He is very passionate about Biology, particularly dinosaurs. He is there for help if you need him. Definitely would recommend.
He was hilarious! Always found myself giggling a few times during each of his lectures. Well educated on so many topics, he is truly inspiring.
He makes lectures interesting by integrating little fun facts and tidbits. Some of the material can be dry, but that's just the nature of the class. Lectures were helpful and he's pretty good about answering in class questions. Tests based heavily on textbook material, so reading that is essential.
He knows what he's talking about; however, his teaching was directly from the slide. If clicker points weren't awarded, I would have not gone to class. However, his lectures are kept interesting because of his sass. Whatever you don't catch in class, you can read in the book.
Biology is just a lot of memorization so it's not the easiest but it's not the hardest. Dr. Rubelmann was by the far the coolest and funniest professor I have had at USF. If you have an opportunity to take him for anything, DO IT!!!!!! He gives extra credit, four exams and a final (drops one), sapling, and clickers. Super cool professor!
Lots of homework for an online class, but the homework is weighted so much more than the tests that it is worth it. I got C's in almost every single test, but somehow got an A in the class because of the homework.
Lectures weren't too boring, and he seemed to actually want students to be interested in biology.
He is very knowledgeable about his field. It's possible to get a B in his class as long as you do your weekly homework and quiz, answer the iclicker questions, and study for your tests. Don't expect an easy A but you can definitely do well in his class if you put in the effort.
This class just has a lot of memorization. Mainly your best friend is quizlet and just studying all the definitions and looking at the reviews he emails out. Don't expect to pass if you don't study. An A is possible but you definitely have to work for it. TA sessions are super easy and an easy grade but cant skip them or will tank your grade.
Dr. Rubelmann is a great teacher and hilarious. His lectures are long but informative. The tests are very hard if you don't study. The lab is pointless but attendance is mandatory. Clicker questions are given during class so you need to show up. The modules were horrible, very long, and hard to pass. Go to office hours if you need help.
Dr. Rubelmann's basic biology class is extremely easy compared to other college courses. As long as you do your weekly online readihgs/quizzes and show up to discussion sessions (attendance), you will do fine. He uses clickers at the most random times, but as long as you put an answer in, it counts. Also he dresses in a cool way xD
This class is EXTREMELY boring!! Dr. Rubelmann has a very monotone voice, it is nearly impossible to pay attention to his 1 hour + lectures. There is an online hw and quiz every week. Tests are HARD. Also, a TON of extra info for a class that was meant for "non-majors." Find a professor who is more engaging if you want to do well in this class.
This class wasn't what I expected for a non-majors course. So much information was thrown at us, and the teacher is a powerpoint reader. Breakout sessions are mandatory to go to, but is pointless when they are after exams. The teacher is a nice guy, but his teaching methods aren't the best. Tests are extremely hard, and he doesn't give study guides
Dr. Rubelmann was great! His lectures were informative as well as humorous! I loved that even though he reads powerpoint slides, he knew his material if anyone wanted to know more. His tests are a little tricky, but not the hardest and he gives you study guides. We had 4 exams and a cumulative final, with extra credit at the end of the course.
I took Dr. Rubelmann for Embryology and he is by far one of the best professors I have had at USF. He truly cares about his students. The material isn't all super easy but it is INTERESTING. The exams are fair, all short answer and Dr. Rubelmann will do what he can to help if you struggle. Read the book, attend lectures and you should get an A!
For a class that is for non-bio majors, it was pretty rough. There are a lot of assignments that are covered and yes you do go through the entire textbook. He used a new program this semester and it was awful. There is so much information to retain and his tests are all multiple choice which makes things harder. Projects are also pointless.
He's a very nice guy and knows what he's talking about but his exams are nothing like how he teaches in class. The material in class is fairly easy to comprehend and his tests are 10x harder. Easy to do the homework but hard to do well on his exams. I would not take him again
He is a smart professor; however, his exams are extremely difficult. His exams are different than what he teaches, and his study guides don't help. Lots of homework that took hours to do. He sped through chapters. 5-6 chapters per exam. Avoid at all costs.
His exam questions are out of left field and the quizzes seem to exist for the purpose of lowering your grade.
Makes use of very engaged and hands on projects, trying to make the class fun and interesting, but he forgets that this is an online class for people who don't have time to run around the city taking pictures of plants for a project, or every meal they eat for another one. Uses a broken program for homework and quizzes, but the exams are easy.
This class isn't too hard if you study a lot. He did a great job of preparing us for the exams by emphasizing what we needed to know. He gave 2 easy extra credit opportunities, and was very understanding if you had to make up an exam or couldn't complete homework assignments on time because of issues with the system.
Tests were not hard at all as long as the book was reviewed and he always uses EASY NOTES for his test bank. Class requires heavy memorizing. HE ADDS A DROP TEST (must take final) and gave 8% extra credit to 2 tests so honestly the class is very forgiving. Lectures boring but clicker is used. Would recommend.
Literally, take this class if you are good at memorization! Dont even waste your time with the book. Use easy notes and you will be fine. Could have easily gotten an A but found out about how people TRULY studied too late. The extra credit is what saved me. He is not a good teacher but his tests are easy because of the test banks;
(Environment/BSC2050): A GREAT teacher. If it had more to do with my major I'd take him again. The only problems with the course are that A) if you're not a science major (I'm PoliSci), the course material is sleep-inducing and B) there's often large amounts of homework assigned all at once. Set aside one afternoon a week to do it and you'll ace!
Haydn is nice enough. He gave out two extra credit opportunities that each add 10 points to an exam grade. Theres at least 2 online quizzes every week, and the smartwork ones can be kind of hard. This class seems a little extra considering its for non-majors, but it's doable. Discussion group is pointless but mandatory. Exams aren't terrible.
Class is all around pointless. There are 2-4 assignments due every week, which take up quite a bit of time and s not relevant to the exam questions, but these homework seems to be worth more than your actual quiz grades. I suggest taking a different professor or class all together.
Great and super nice teacher. There's homework but its all super easy and online. He uses clickers in class as a big part of the grade so its important to go to each lecture. He gave two big extra credit assignments that added 10 each to test grades. Gives outline of test so if you study then the class is really easy and actually very interesting.
For a non major class it was pretty difficult, online homework is every week, and you have to read in order to get good grades. Attendance is counted by iclicker. Exams are long and difficult, and also discussion sections don't make sense, but you have to attend them in order to get points. Too much work for nothing.
Rubelmann is nice and the class is easy except for the tests. His exams are extremely hard and he asks very specific questions. He also offers extra credit which will save your grade if you need it. The class is hard in general but he makes his exams a lot harder than he needs too.
Honestly if you have the test bank from easy notes, you can easily get an A in the class. Also gives out two extra credit opportunities during the semester that add ten points each to your test category.
Dr. Rubelmann was somewhat boring; I had trouble paying attention in class. He is very by-the-books in that his lectures are generic, as well as his grading criteria (university standard of A93%), tests, and homework. The class becomes significantly easier if you can find the answers online. Despite my issues, he does care about his students.
His tests are difficult, Ive seen a lot of period talk about finding the test bank on easy notes. Can anyone describe that more for me?? I dont know what easy notes is or how to find his tests on it.
Dr. Rubelmann is a good guy, but a tough professor. He makes a simple subject incredibly difficult. He isn't the best lecturer because he's so calm and it makes me kinda sleepy. His exams are really difficult, but about 50-60% of the questions are from Easy Notecards. He also never specifies what will be tested, so you have to know everything.
Professor Rubelmann is a nice professor but his exam are difficult. He doesn't give a study guide to prepare for the exams, he just gives a break down on what sections will be on the exam which could be anything. He give 2 extra credit assignments to bring up your exam average. Some of the questions on his exam are test bank.
Professor Rubelmann is a very nice and knowledgeable professor. However, his exams are hard. This class is NOT an easy A, but you can get an A if you put the effort. He is your best choice to take BSC 2011 with, but just make sure you pay attention in class and study. He also gives two extra credit assignments which give you 20% towards your exams.
I did really well in Bio 1, yet I found this course very challenging. He is very nice, but his exams are so hard. But he did offer two extra credit assignments. His lectures are boring, he has a monotone voice. There is so much content to memorize, and it's definitely not an easy A. Attendance is basically mandatory because of clicker questions.
Two quizzes every week.. both are long but are a lot easier if you find the answers on quizlet. He does clickers every class so attendance is basically required. Lectures are straight from the book so study the book and easy notecards and youll be fine. Gives extra credit too. Not a bad choice for bio 2
He wasn't too bad when half of the questions came directly from easy notes. but halfway through the semester i think he realized, because now he rewords half of the easy note questions so you have to really know the answers. I wouldn't take him again, im really struggling for a B. does give 20 points extra credit- the only reason i'm passing tbh
2 assignments and 2 quizzes per week + a project, interactive assignment, or an exam usually. . . The exams are pretty variable in difficulty. Overall I found the class to be more difficult than it should be for non-majors and didn't really enjoy it. Some pros were extra credit, he is a nice guy, and he wants you to understand the material
He's a decent professor. He covers the material you need to know and adds some humor to lectures sometimes. Clickers every class and online homework weekly. 4 noncumulative exams (1 dropped) and a final exam. The two extra credit opportunities (20 points total) are really helpful. USE THE TEXTBOOK to study for exams; I highlighted a ton.
Hadyn is a pretty chill professor. You have homeworks and quizzes due everyweek, and you practically can't skip class due to the clicker. His exams are hard (use easynotes, I wish I had) you should be fine. He gives 20 points worth of extra credit which helps A TON, so do them.
Dr. Rubelmann is an excellent professor. He explains things really well. He has clickers each lecture (clickers are for participation not accuracy) and there are graded homework/quizzes. I highly reccomending getting the textbook and reading each chapter after lecture. Easynotes have good practice questions, but I wouldnt rely on them.
I had professor Rubelmann at university of tampa for BIO 183 and he is a great professor. BIO 183 is difficult in general so he makes it easy to understand and fun to learn. He also offers extra credit. Always available outside of class. take him.
The worst professor I have ever had. Gives way to much work and lectures for 2 hours straight, extremely unhelpful in office hours. Tests are very hard, he expects you to know more that what teaches. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS
