She is a different kind of teacher she is from Iran so she has an accent but she really cares and wants her students to do well if you do all the homework you'll d fine
She explains things very well and if you don't understand something, she will go over it again until you do.
Hedi is one of the most helpful teachers I have had & she really wants you to learn the material. She explains things really well and if you simply attend class and put in some effort you will do fine in the class. Math 10 is not the most interesting class you will have, but she does her best to just teach what is required.
I thought she was not very helpful, very uptight and not willing to go over things in class. "I was chating with my husband and we were laughing because the longer that I teach the harder my tests get." That's not funny
very helpful and upbeat. she really puts a lot of effort and time into helping her students-really wants everyone to succeed and goes to great lengths to make sure everyone understands the material...very quick about posting grades and offers extra credit; i would highly recommend.
She is extremely helpfull and wants her student to succeed. Attendence is not mandatory, but you should attend. I would recomend every math 15 student to have her as a math teacher!
Ms. Montgomery was very helpful to me because I had been out of school for 25 years. She took time outside of the classroom to ensure that I was able to grasp the concepts of the problems, which helped tremendously. It was especially helpful to have the students complete the problems on the board. Thank You!
Hated having to goto her class. Just did problems on the board and expected you to know it immediatly because she gave a quiz right after.
I hated the way she teaches, it was very unorganized. Attendance is mandatory because she takes it everyday and the assignments that she gives out most of the time has problems on there that she didn't even teach the class.
She trys to make things interesting by making jokes. She is easy to get along with.
Thought she was very helpful and willing to help her students. Tests I thought weren't bad if you did your HW. and stayed on top of things
a very good professor! she has a heavy accent, but you get used to it very quickly. she is always willing to take extra time to help you in the ASC. she genuinely cares about her students as long as they put effort in. I was always a C average math student but earned an A with only applying a little effort.
Class sucked. An insane amount of homework for a class that doesn't count as UW credit. If you skip a class it will take a while to catch up.
Took the intermediate algebra class as a freshman. After taking up to pre calc in high school found it really easy. Only went to class on test days and kept up with homework. Though when I attended class didnt find it helpful, just went over problems on the board the whole time.
she is an AMAZING teacher. she has an accent but u can clearly understand her. if u do ur homework, u should have no problems in the class. she takes extra time 2 assist students in asc if they need, it. she rocks my socks. i recommend her to anyone
Very easy tests. Also, if you use the Mathxl the way you are supposed to, class is just extra help.
Taking the course right now, and I have always been a C- average in math but now I have a B+ so far. Willing to help you anytime. Once you get used to her accent you will have no problems.
Not very clear at first, but easy to understand after you've been taking the class for a while. Amount of required homework is quite extensive. Roughly 2-3 hours of homework assigned at each class if you're not proficient in math. 1-2 if you're fair. Homework is done online, and unfortunately doesn't totally match up with tests.
You can really tell she wants you to pass her class. A very helpful lady and efficient in lectures. Homework online is almost completely useless simply because it is a computer program that has a mind of it's own. Tests and quizzes are relatively easy if you pay attention in class.
Extremely helpful. Really wants you to do well and will go over it with you until you understand it. If you show up to class, pay attention, and do the homework, you will pass. If you skip class and don't care, it isn't her fault, it's yours.
Very helpful, keeps D2L grades updated, willing to extend due dates for MathXL, responds to emails, friendly. Would recommend for people who are uneasy about math. Show up to class and do the MathXL stuff and worksheets at the ASC and you will be fine.
She wants you to succeed! Quizzes and tests are small. Always keeps D2L up to date, very timely, sends reminder and update emails. Keep up with your MathXL homework, attend class, and go to ASC often and you will be fine.
Tougher in this class than Math 10. Go to class, participate, do MathXL, go to ASC, do your worksheets, and go in to review your test and quizzes and you will be fine. Wants you to succeed but you have to put in the work. Recommend.
If you show you care about your grade she is super helpful, if you struggle at math i'd suggest get a tutor and take her class and you'll pass, just show her you are putting effort into the class and she'll help you! Also correct your tests/quizzes its essentially free points...
While the class itself wasn't hard, the amount of homework was insane for a class that doesn't count towards graduating credits. I also personally hated mathXL.
Best Professor I have ever taken!! She cares about her students so much and she wants you to do well. She wants to make sure you understand the material and will do everything to help. You get the opportunity to make corrections on all of your tests and quizzes to get points back. You do have a lot of homework on Math XL but it isn't bad.Take Hedi!
She is lovely and kind. helpful to the last minute.
Is a little hard to understand. She is very helpful and cares about her students
Hedi really wants you to do well! I have struggled with math for a long time and between her and math xl, I understand and enjoy the subject. If you go to ASC and go over your tests, you can even get points back. LOVE MATHXL
I've always been a C or lower student when it came to math. I took this same course with a different teacher-failed. Took it with Mrs. Montgomery- A. Great teacher! Very caring if you show up to class and care about what your doing. SO EASY TO GET AN A! She gives you the points back from the incorrect testquizzes if you go to the ASC, so worth it!
Lets you come in to make corrections on tests so you can get points back. There is homework everyday online. Super nice and really cares about her students. Show up and you will pass easily! Had her for both Math 10 and Math 15, did good in both!
She genuinely cares about her students and wants everyone to do well. She is also very accessible outside of class, so you can always go in and talk to her about any questions you have. I would highly recommend taking her for Intermediate Algebra!
She just recently started teaching programming. She's very intelligent in the subject but you can tell she's new teaching it, as lectures were often hard to follow. The tests were also way harder than they should've been and intentionally made confusing. Programs weren't graded too harshly. Not a bad choice but not the best either.
She might know what shes doing but she wont answer questions and doesn't have time to help she is the most useless teacher ever would not take her again
INSANELY hard tests & quizzes, you have to be perfect on everything. Quizzes & tests are very confusing & most of the time you need to ask questions about them because they are poorly written. She is a new teacher at this subject & is not that great at answering questions in her office hours. There are definitely many better teachers for CS1430.
She is not very helpful in any and all situations. She enjoys making things very ambiguous and sometimes doesn't really know what she is talking about. During lectures, she stumbles on her words and often makes mistakes that cause severe confusion withing the class. Sometimes rude when you are seeking assistance. She expects you to know everything.
Honestly do not take this class with this professor. She is new to the subject, and believes everything needs to be PERFECT on the INSANELY difficult tests and quizzes. Many times she does not know how to answer your question. She just stumbles her words through the lecture without really explaining anything, forcing you to Google how to code.
Not only did I find professor Hayedeh terrible at explaining things, but shes terribly rude when coming in to her office hours for help. Her quizzes and tests are almost impossible to pass with a passing grade. Do I think its possible to pass her class? Yes, but be prepared to learn nothing from lecture and mostly searching online for help.
Hayedeh Montgomery makes 1430 ( a 3 credit class) feel like a 5 credit class. Every week she made us take home quiz and complete a lab. "The Grader" was perhaps the reason I hated the class the most (among the many reasons). She complained if we didn't have our webcams on (Fall 2020). Very obnoxious woman, would NOT take again.
Do not take this teacher for CS. Her lectures do not make sense and going to her office hours is useless. It is easier to go on youtube and learn from videos there. She is very condescending when you ask for help. She told me and multiple other students, "If you cant do (thing) then you should not become a programmer".
She fails to fully explain things in her lectures, and then gets frustrated with us when we come in to her office hours to ask for something to be explained again, or for any kind of small help on programs. I always left lectures feeling confused, and often had to look things up on the internet to fully understand it. If you can, don't take her.
She did nothing but read off the slides in class. Her accent made it slightly more difficult to understand. She is usually very helpful when you go to her office hours, but sometimes misunderstands what your question is. She is clearly very knowledgeable about her subject but isn't so good at teaching it to others. Would not take again.
Perfectly good professor with a few minor faults. She is relies a bit too heavily on powerpoints but otherwise has good course organization, clear expectations, and grades quickly with quizzes and exams often being returned within a day or two. If you've got any intuition in programming at all this class should be an easy A.
Do not get me wrong, as a human being, she is nice! I feel like I can hold a good conversation with her. However, as a teacher, she will embarrass you in front of the class if you get something wrong. Things like "This is why you need to come into office hours". As a future educator, I will confront my students individually.
I had Professor Montgomery for Intermediate Algebra and I absolutely loved her! She is so nice and truly wants all of her students to succeed. She is constantly reminding the students to come to her office hours if they have a question on anything. I went to her office hours often and she's so welcoming and helpful. I would 100% take her again!
This professor was okay. She has no empathy when it comes to personal matters. I was at a funeral and she made me submit a picture to turn in my homework. She is a harsh grader and will call you out in front of everyone.
First off, our class was supposed to end at 4:15 and she never let us out earlier than 4:30. Shell call you out in front of the entire class for getting a problem wrong or not submitting homework properly. Her notes are very confusing and we dont even go over them fully in class. Avoid if you can.
elementary stats - group homework, takes attendance everyday, doesnt help, makes the class harder than it should be, makes zero sense. do not recommend
The class itself wasn't too difficult, but I had to teach myself the entire course. Dr. Montgomery seems nice, but her lectures were difficult. We often were expected to already know how to program in C++ though we were in an INTRO class. I learned absolutely nothing in class and just watched a few hours of C++ YouTube tutorials and still got an A.
Does not adress/correct students errors in class. Does not understand learning disabled students (dyscalculics beware) and does not attempt to learn about the condition when given the opportunity. Pressures students into 1on1 meetings outside of class. Reacts negatively of you decline. Covered like 3 different topics in 3 days.
Horrible. We cover a completely different subject every class. Every. Single. Class. No opportunity to actually learn/practice. So it doesnt sink in. Very stressful, confusing, and disorienting.
I do not think she does well as a professor. Most the homework is done in groups; you don't receive helpful feedback on what you did wrong. She seemed upset if I didn't understand what she was explaining. I feel the course would have been easier if she applied more one on one help. I would not recommend taking her if math is hard for you.
She is a very nice as a person but is the hardest grader I have ever had. What you get wrong on a test is definitely weighted more than what you get right, which makes it really difficult to get a decent grade on an exam.
Hayedeh Montgomery was a good professor. She has good office hours, though there may be 2-4 others in there as well receiving help, she was always there to help. She explains thing well and gives partial credit. One thing that could have been better is if she went though all problems in the in-class workbook, instead of skipping all over the place.
Awful professor, DO not take her class if you value your mental state. She is rude, tests are weighted 76% of your grade including the final. Does not do a good job of teaching the material, and an even worse job of answering questions you may have in class. 0/10 would never recommend.
She's an amazing professor! She is clear on what needs to get done and she does her best to make sure everyone understands what she is teaching. She gives extra credit at times which is nice. She is sweet and wants the best for her students. She grades fast and goes over the exams and homework so you know what you have done wrong.
I had Hedi for Elem Stats and she's the nicest and best prof. I don't know why people hate her, but I know they struggle/don't study and like to blame her. She does multiple examples, helps with homework, and if you go to class, you'll pass. Super nice/helpful during office hours. She wants you to succeed and makes the material super easy to learn.
Hedi is a great professor for Elementary Statistics, I don't understand why so many of her students didn't like her. This course was not tough, but I know a lot of people were struggling. She explains topics very clearly and goes through many examples. She makes it incredibly easy to understand and pass if you simply show up. Mad respect for Hedi.
This teacher has all homework through group work and grades tests very harshly, I got marked off points many times for not showing work on what should be mental math, when it did not even ask for any work to be shown.
As an individual that has not always like math, I really enjoyed Hayedeh! In any Elementary Statistics class you have to put in work outside of class, that should be a no brainer. She is highly accessible when students need her and she even lets you stay late if you still need to finish. Make sure you go to class, new lesson every class. Loved her!
Not a great class to be blunt. All homework was through a group and it made things worse than if each person did their own work. She marks points off tests for almost no reason and exams are worth 60+ percent of your grade.
I love her as a person. However, She required us to watch lectures outside of our lecture period and then still attend in-person classes. I do not suggest taking her as a professor if you are taking other difficult classes. Just because you will not have the time to designate to her class.
Do not take her. She is a bad teacher. You cover a whole new chapter every class. And you will never be let out early and will always stay late. Avoid
Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.
Do not take her class
She is very rude, accent is hard to understand, lecturers are all PowerPoints.
The main points in this class are coming from exams. So if you do bad on one exam you are in some trouble. You are going to have to self teach yourself. Which is very time consuming because attendance is mandatory. So going to class is a waste of time when you have to teach it all yourself outside of class.
Worst teacher I have ever had.
Not a good teacher. You have to teach yourself outside of class. I would not ever take any of her classes again.
Professor Montgomery is an amazing professor and truly wants her students to succeed. She is very clear about her expectations and is always willing to explain something differently if needed. If you takes notes and do your homework, you will always be prepared for her exams. Highly recommend, she is so kind and helpful!
The only students that do not like her as a professor are the ones that do not take notes or do homework. If you simply do what she asks (and she provides MANY resources) you will have no problem with this class. She is a great person, really do not understand why others do not like her.
Teaching is not for her. She is extremely rude and will call you out in-front if the class. And I know she rates herself on here and looks at these. My friend took her last year and she sent out an announcement on how she wants people who got a good grade to rate her positively. She definitely rated herself
Im not sure what all the hate is for. She is very nice and is very clear on what she expects on the tests.
Hedi is a nice person but may not be the best professor for math. She is test heavy, homework heavy, and quiz heavy. She expects you to watch the zoom lectures before coming to class. Does not go over a full example/question. Moves on very quickly from chapter to chapter. Extremely picky when it comes to grading. Calls students out.
she makes this class harder than it needs to be. She is very rude and only cares about the students who are doing well in the class.
She is a good professor who knows her stuff and she's understanding and will give you points back on your exam if you ask questions. If you do the homework and take notes like she explained in the beginning, you should have no problem with this class. She is such a sweet, kind, and genuine person I'm not sure what the hate is for.
For my class we ended up doing a sort of hybrid class, which I did not like. We had to watch her lecture videos before every class, which was a bit much but was not terrible. Overall she is a pretty good professor, but she is quite difficult. I believe about 50% of my class dropped out before the deadline.
Professor Montgomery is single-handedly one of the sweetest and most caring professors at this school. I have endless positive regard for her. She cares so deeply for every one of her students. Her passion for statistics is tangible and inspiring. She wants to help you. If you put in the basic effort and communicate decently, you will pass.
Anyone on her that says she is difficult must honestly have a hard time being a college student. Prof. Montgomery made this class as easy as it can be. She provides online lectures you can watch before class, which she DOES NOT need to do. She does that because she understands some students will benefit from them. I loved her as a professor.
She makes the class harder than it needs to be for some reason. she is very mean to alot of the students. I don't understand how she has so many positive reviews, but it looks like you either enjoy her class or hate her class. don't roll the dice on this one. Find a different professor.
The people hating on this course clearly put no effort into the class. Hayedeh was always very accessible if you needed extra help, which she always encouraged. If you go to class, pay attention, take notes, and do your homework, you should be okay. She is very caring and honestly one of the sweetest professors.
Rating a 1 star is a bit dramatic imo. Find a good group, homework is easy if you use the study packet next to it. The tests are similar to homework and she literally tells you the type of questions and how many will be on the tests. If she really does have favoritism tell her have a good day or something nice so you're not no name in the back.
I don't understand how she has so many positive reviews. She was not a good teacher at all. The class lectures were a drag and never got anything out of it. Was just a power point the entire time.
I did not like her as a teacher. She is a good person and is very sweet. But Her teaching style I was not a fan of.
Terrible teacher
Hedi is an excellent teacher if you're a good student. If you don't want to pay attention, go to class, study, or do your homework, you might struggle. The content is not that difficult but it's not an easy A. She's very willing to help outside of class if you need it. She gets irritated when students don't put the work in. Otherwise, she's so kind
I would recommend you find a different teacher for this class. It is a hard class. And if you already aren't good at math, you're going to struggle big time. Lectures went over every time. It's a PowerPoint the entire class.
Her notes are printable and you fill in the blanks. I was able to work with a group on homework and turn it in. If you are struggling she is very approachable.
worst teacher I have ever had....
She is very kind and compassionate. She wants you to ask for help and to succeed. Her course can be hard if you don't do the homework because that's where you'll be getting your practice since she lectures almost the whole class. So if you pay attention and do the work you should be okay.
If you can take a different professor for this class. Please do it for your sake. You will dread going to her class every time. She lectures the entire time. And you end up teaching yourself.
She is the worst professor I've ever had. She is the toughest grader, if you mess up one thing she takes away all points. At least two assignments to do after every class that are due the next class. Lectures the entire class and doesn't give enough time to finish writing notes. She'll skip over notes saying they aren't important, when they are.
Never except to get our even 1 minute early in her class. She is a very tough grader. And If you go into her office hours, she gets annoyed if you go too much for help. Take this class with Terry instead.
She is very nice and is a decent teacher. She can be a little hard to understand sometimes due to a slight accent, but nothing too bad. I'll be taking her for future math courses. Doesn't take late HW, no matter what. But she will help you with HW during office hours and before class starts.
Bad. Just bad
Does a terrible job of teaching this class. You will end up teaching it all yourself. Accent is very hard to understand. She plays favorites in her class too.
terr8bleProfessors.
Sign up for a different professor. Do not take her class or classes. If you already struggle with math, she will make it even worse. Teachers are supposed to help you grow and progress. She does the opposite of it. I hate going to her class. Such a negative vibe she gives off. She's there for a paycheck and doesn't care how you do.
There seems to be a lot of people who don't like Hedi which I find odd. Shes very caring, does a very good job of teaching the concepts we need in class, is always very accessible and pushing going to her office hours where she can help you further. She takes attendance but its a math class, you need to show up to learn all the content before tests
Prof Montgomery is a kind professor. Stats is a very difficult class that requires effort and asking questions when confused. She allows you to do homework in groups to compare answers, and the homework is really helpful in preparing for the tests. Prof Montgomery cares and wants to help you succeed.
I think Stats is a very difficult class, but many people seem to blame the professor. If you put in work and ask questions, you will succeed. Professor Montgomery is a very kind and caring person who wants to help you and see you suceed. Show up to class, practice on your own, and seek extra help if you need it.
Professor Montgomery was a great teacher for this class. I don't understand the negative ratings. She taught it a great way and was very caring. She wants you to succeed. Show up to class, take notes, and take time to understand how to do the homework and you will do well.
So many people rate her based off of their bad experiences. Yes the content is a bit difficult, but if you actually put in the effort and go to the class, the class isn't bad. She is very understanding and she is willing to help you when you ask. She grades honestly so you know what you need to work on and gives many opportunities to check hw/tests
Very nice lady don't be scared to build a relationship with her. She does lecture fast so that's why you need to prepare for class. You will have to put in effort or you will fail.
Professor makes great use of class time, so all the information is covered. She has great videos that assist you outside of class if you're not understanding anything. As long as you're responsible you will do well in her course. She's also really nice, and answers any questions.
She is an amazing teacher, she there for her students and does cares. In her class she has videos that are very helpful, and she is available during office hours. Math requires you to apply yourself and not just rely on the teacher. Most of the people who are failing the class do not show up, do not apply themselves, do not use any resources.
As you can see, the poor reviews are from those who don't take accountability for themselves. If you simply apply yourself and are willing to learn, Hayedeh is a great professor. She is kind, so you don't have to fear asking for help if you need it.
"It seems like mostly students who are unhappy vent off on the rate my professor site. In fact these comments are sometimes hurtful. May I please ask those of you who have had a positive experience to also share them on this site?"
She is a super sweet and caring teacher. But she is super unorganized on test and it's very frustrating. She had a test this semester that had 3 errors. She continues to mess up problems on the test which affects me grade every test.
There are fill in the blank packets for the notes (super easy). There are the lectures prerecorded online with the note sheets already filled out. She is extremely understanding and caring. Math with a fill in the blank packets. Super simplified.
I wouldn't be surprised if most of these negative comments are the students who don't show up to class, don't ask questions or ask for help when needed. She cares about her students. She has all the information available for you to succeed in the class, if you don't put in the work or show up to class that's on YOU not her. This isn't high school.
The best math professor I have had. Everyone is giving low scores because they do not put in effort. She gives many opportunities for extra credit, and will explain things in multiple ways for you to understand. If you explain why you did things on your exam she will give you points back. She will not hold your hand through this class, be adults.
She is so caring, and wants everyone to succeed. She gives so many resources it is almost impossible to not understand the class. Those who are writing bad reviews are the ones who do not apply themselves, show up, or don't ask questions. You can't rely on the teacher, math requires you to actually apply yourself.
Most people struggle with her class because of her accent, but I find it pretty weak. She tends to have handouts that are printed out, using skeleton notes. Spend less time looking at the notes and more with practice to understand the course. I'd say do the notes ahead then come to class with question
People struggle because of her accent; I find it weak. She gives out notes that can be printed, using skeleton notes. Spend more doing practice than staring at the notes, they're mainly definitions and practice on the side. Do the notes ahead of time and come to class with questions if math is not your strongsuit
She just made an announcement encouraging students to write better reviews on her, so I wouldn't take the positive reviews too seriously. 62% of the class failed an exam and blamed it on the students for not working hard enough. All the homework are group assignments because she doesn't have the “time” to grade all of them. Take anyone else.
Hedi is very caring and wants to help you. She gives extra credit, and will give points back for any errors she makes. Stats isn't easy but many blame her when they aren't going to class and doing the work. Show up, put in effort, watch the note videos before class so you understand better, and ask questions if you have any, she will help you. '
She goes through topics at a good pace and always stops and sees if anyone has questions. She is so nice and a great teacher. If you pay attention and do the work, it's not very hard.
This is the second time taking this course because I didn't understand it the first time with my previous professor. Professor Montgomery is always open to helping her students and very clearly wants them to succeed. She provides all of the tool necessary and even often provides ways to check your work before turning things in to be graded.
Though her teaching style may not be for everyone, she makes what could be a difficult course into a pretty easy breeze. You are tasked with homework and quizzes each week which can help your grade. While you are told to watch videos, they aren't always necessary. She offers extra credit many times. Just put in effort and show up to class.
Don't listen to the positive reviews. They are all fake and I wouldn't be surprised if she gives herself a good review. Idk how she is still teaching here. Everyone I have talked about the class who took it in the past, say she is by far the worst professor they have ever had.
I tried to go into office hours and got brushed off. I did not understand the topic and she tried to explain it, but got annoyed I wasn't understanding. So she said that I need to go back and look over my notes. Like what is even the point of having you teach the class. that is what she is getting paid for.
she is an awful teacher. take anyone else
accent is tough to understand. She is very rude when you ask for help. Take a different person for this course and don't make your semester extremely stressful like I did.
Here is a statistic for you: Any positive review on this site, there's a 80% chance its her rating herself. DO NOT FALL FOR IT! She is a terrible teacher and should be doing literally anything else with her life. Teaching just isn't it.
She does not do a very good job at explaining anything. Then when it got to the last unit that she thought was super easy she went way too fast through it when we had extra days and now the unit is confusing. She also makes way too many mistakes in class and makes it confusing. Another thing to add is she thinks everything is the students fault.
I agree with every bad review. She's just the worst
She is so rude. Always blames the students when the group as a whole does bad on test. If it's 3 or 4 students who did bad is one thing. But the whole class does bad, that's saying something about the teacher.
2nd time taking the class but first with Hayedeh, she is clear about what is expected and willing to help no matter what. If you don't show up you will fail due to lack of knowledge. Hard class but she definitely helps.
If you come to class, and ask questions if you have them, you will do just fine. This class isn't easy, but if you put in the effort your grade will reflect it. She also gives extra credit opportunities.
Goes through everything way too fast. She has been by far the worst professor I have taken. Take anyone else or you're gonna regret it
Had a terrible experience with her. So glad it's over and I never have to take her again. Just such a mean person
Very bad teacher. The tests are very crucial in doing well in this class. you have to do decent on all the exams to pass. Take someone else who actually cares about you learning the material.
If you didn't like Heidi you didn't deserve to take her class. She was such a caring teacher and she had so many opportunities to receive extra points. The only kids who failed her class or disliked her were kids that didn't take that class seriously and should rethink college. If I had a chance I would take her class again any day over anyone else
Rating her a 5 star and 1 difficulty is absolutely hilarious. Doesn't listen to any of the positive reviews. Most of them are her writing them.
Nice lady and as long as you stay up on the homework and videos class is simple
Worst class you can possibly take. Doesnt teach at all. Hard to understand. Doesn't help you in office hours.
At the beginning of the semester I wasn't too sure about her. She was hard to understand because of her thick accent. But as the class went on it was easier to understand her and the class got easier. If you do your homework and pay attention in class, you will do well and she might like you more.
She is very confusing to understand also does not explain the course subject good at all everything is confusing, and does not help students very good either.
