Tough but worth it. She's really fun and I learned a ton.
GREAT Professor!! She knows what she is talking about and makes it easy to comprehend the concepts! Tests are hard, but totally worth to take it!
Tough but good teacher! She is very helpful when you need help or have any questions. Covers a lot of interesting things connected to climate change. The class is mostly based on lectures and 30% of the grade is based on participation (including presentations and assignments) so attendance is mandatory
Interesting and lots of fun! great professor but its a difficult class
One of the best professors I've ever had. Knows how to be laid back, but challenging at the same time. Has great chemistry with students and is able to convey information well. TAKE HER. She is phenomenal. The course will be challenging without background knowledge, but not impossible. SO FUN!!
i like this class a lot it is just a little difficult for me.
I really liked having Hayley as a teacher a lot. I enjoyed getting some exposure to a science course and I learned a lot about global climate change.
This course is REALLY hard. The teacher is an amazing person, someone you want to be friends with. She is super helpful and makes time to answer your questions and give you support. She does go through the material very quickly and the course can be very overwhelming. It is also a fair amount of work. She's is also just such a cool person.
The material can be a bit confusing at times but Hayley will answer any questions you have and will work with you to make sure you do. Super laid-back and cool professor and made the class hella fun. I am NOT a science person at all but this was one of the best classes I've had in college. I learned a lot. Better than a biology class. TAKE IT.
cool class but alot of work. a bit hard to keep up with amount of material. great class overall though.
The course itself very hard but professor very helpful made evethything easier.
Anyone who's taken and done ok in other science classes will find this class straight forward and informative. She has some work to do on her lecture clarity and can be a tough exam grader. She helps you improve your grade in other ways though, and overall a chill fun class with material you'll want to learn about.
Hayley was an amazing teacher. She was clearly passionate about the content of the course and made the class feel very casual. Nevertheless, this class is difficult and Hayley is not a pushover.
She can not clarify in the class.
She is not good at teaching at all.
She is not good at teaching.
This teacher is mean and insensitive. She lets her quick tempered attitude hurt the grades of students and forces them to learn on there own. Do not give her any reason to not like you!!
I thought Hayley was a fair teacher. She was straightforward & could clarify if you had any questions. She does not hold office hours, so any concerns would have to be settled through email exchange; but she is quick in getting back to you. My only flaw would be that she reads directly from the slides during each class & it gets kind of repetitive.
She rushes through her lectures so fast that it's impossible to take notes.
I took this class as an elective. Definitely not an easy A, which is the reason why I took it in the first place. But nonetheless, it is still a fun class and interesting topic. The only flaw is that Hayley reads off of the slides and you have to go through later and copy the notes. It gets a little repetitive because she does this every class
Hayley is a really good professor who cares and is passionate about what she is teaching. She will know your name by the end of the first few weeks, so attendance is mandatory. Otherwise, as she tells you at the start of class, as long as you do the work, you will do just fine in her class. Overall, my time in her class was a good experience.
The subject was really interesting, and we covered a lot of good material. She does talk really fast and has a habit of moving on before you finished digesting what she said, but she posts all her lectures online, so if you miss something it's easy to go back and re-read.
The professor rushed through her slides using about half of the allotted class time every day. To learn the material you have to go back and read the slides yourself. The material isn't hard, but she makes the tests as hard as possible, given the easy content.
Hayley is very passionate about her subject and her enthusiasm to share her knowledge and research is endearing but she often rushes through her lectures making it very hard to stay focused and absorb the material. However, if something is unclear, she will always take the time to clarify if asked.
Very hard to follow along with her in class as she goes through the slides at 100mph. Tough to learn but you can get a lot out of it.
Hayley is super chill. Very understanding that we are college students and that being in class isn't our favorite thing. Regardless, she makes class "fun" and as painless as possible. You don't need the textbook at all. Very easy course and her tests are pretty easy.
Very effective teacher, but goes through class a little bit too fast.
She is tough, but let's you know what's expected up front. She is no nonsense but makes it hard to do poorly in the class. I learned a lot and really liked her.
Good professor, very passionate about the subject. Study guides very comprehensive, studying them makes tests easy. Sometimes presentations a little unclear, but she was very willing to explain them.
Hard to take notes because she moves through slides pretty quickly, so it can be tough to follow at times. Slides are made available online though, so you can go back through later.
Super cool and really passionate. If you work hard, you'll learn a lot. Also, she's hot.
Hayley is really into her material. She is fast, but posts slides in advance and is really good about clarifying if you need it. She makes the exams easy with comprehensive study guides. One of my fav classes at NEU.
Tough grader but not unfair. If you're going to take this class be aware that it's not insanely difficult, but you will have to study. The hardest part of her courses are her tests because they're pretty hefty in the amount of information they cover.
Hayley is an awesome teacher and a really nice person! You can expect to cover and learn a lot of material in this class and the course is comprehensive not to say the least but it's one of the best classes I've taken at Northeastern! Don't think twice, take the class and sit in the front row from day one, pay attention and enjoy!!!
Tons of information. Professor is nice and the class is easy enough if you put in the time to come to class and study
Best class and coolest teacher ever. Highly recommend. Be ready to work for your grade!
Good teacher overall
Hayley is young and so she is still really relatable to her students. I LOVED this class. It was hard, but she said it would be on the first day of class. She has office hrs by appt only, but is willing to meet you as often as needed. She rocks.
Nice person, tough grader, keeps it real though
Hayley is a great teacher and takes her material seriously. Make sure you work thoroughly and participate to insure a good grade.
I've never really been into science but Hayley made it very interesting and made me want to learn a lot! She's an awesome teacher and very helpful, especially since it is a lot of material. Just make sure to go to the classes and pay attention. Barely any homework is given. Recommend taking her class!
Hayley is good teacher class is interesting and easy
This class is very hard and a lot of materials. I do not recommend you to take this class. The professor is nice as a person but you will not enjoy the class. Because it's heavy and challenging, hard core stuff.
Nice professor, difficult course, but interesting.
Professor Schiebel has a great passion for the subject and her students. Coarse is tough, but you do learn a lot. I would recommend this class for people who have a real interest in the subject matter because you will get to know the topic a lot better.
Cool professor, keeps the material relevant and interesting. The class is tough though, be prepared to work hard and you will receive the grade you deserve.
Highly recommend her!
Very fun class, I am a business major and needed a class to fill up my schedule. I would suggest this class to anyone, she makes it very interesting. She is a fair grader and the exams are not too hard.
Loved Haley. So chill
She is very knowledgeable and passionate about the course material, therefore making it interesting. As long as you do the work in this class, you will do well. And this professor has everyone's name memorized by the second week, so I would suggest not skipping class.
This was not my favorite class- the material was interesting but Hayley went really quickly through it unnecessarily. If you study, you'll do well on the tests.
Great class, learned a lot. Professor is super into the material which helped me become passionate about the topics discussed in class. She also makes the best study guides for tests. Definitely recommend this class to any business student with a science requirement. Lots of content but not too hard to understand.
Professor Schiebel lectured very quickly which meant some loss of content, but I generally enjoyed the class and learned a lot.
Loved her and the class! She is really funny and understanding. The material is hard but interesting. Take it with Hayley!!!
Love her! Moves through material quickly but makes it easy to understand. Sharp as a tack (so don't even thinking about skipping class; she'll know if you're not there), clearly very passionate about her subject, always wisecracking. She's a prime example of why it's great to have grad students teaching classes--young, enthusiastic and engaged.
She is a great lecturer and is always clear when lecturing. She is a slightly hard grader, but very fair. If you need help she will absolutely help, but only if you approach her first.
Literally the best class and prof I have had. She is tough, but clearly wants the class to succeed and understand the material. Lots of group discussions and she WILL call you out if you are not working hard.
DO NOT BUY THE BOOK. Her lectures are clear enough for you to study straight from the powerpoints.
Very good teacher.
Her enthusiasm and energy and jokes made me feel she was truly teaching to me instead of at me. A nice mix of lectures, small interactive activities and small group discussions helped break up class and keep it interesting. Wouldn't have even considered skipping a class because it was fun and entertaining to go. Don't bother buying the book.
Hayley is super knowledgeable, sassy, and honest. She's great at explaining things. This class is long but she makes it entertaining and worth it.
Best class and teacher ever. Its hard and fun at the same time. I am a non-science major... and loved it and Hayley.
An awesome class on the science of climate change. Super experienced and qualified, down to earth, and easy to talk to if you don't understand something.
I though Hayley was a really great lecturer. She goes very fast so be sure to download the power point and just focus on taking additional notes there. There's no way you will have time to copy everything from the slide onto a piece of paper. Don't buy the textbook, it's really not necessary. Go to class for in class assignments!
She's hilarious but does take the class seriously. But take it, it's crazy interesting even if you aren't into science.
Super chill teacher. She really knows what she's talking about and tries her best to make the material easy to understand. If you put in effort, she will acknowledge that.
Hayley is a great professor and makes the class really interesting. She takes it seriously but makes it really easy to understand even if you don't have an interest.
Professor Schiebel is really cool and fun. The class is a bit tough but if you do the minimum work you can get an easy B+. Her study guides are helpful and the book is certainly not necessary. Highly recommend
She's a really good lecturer who really knows what she's talking about. If you pay attention and take notes in class you'll do really well. Make sure to show up because she counts attendance in some way - plus she expands a lot more on her lectures so you'll do better in class if you go every day.
Moves very quickly through lectures and I found it hard to take notes effectively but still learned a LOT. If you go to class and actually pay attention you should be fine. Extremely bright and passionate but doesn't tolerate nonsense. Didn't open the textbook once but still had to study hard and do a lot of work outside of class.
Not a big science person, but this class is a good option for those international affair majors that need to complete their science credit.
I loved her class (Not a science major). Despite not doing very well in the class, this was 100% due to my own lack of effort. If you pay attention, give in your work and study you will get good grades. The material is interesting which makes it easier to memorize. Loved Hayley and her lectures despite having 1 hour 45min long classes.
an awesome class if you're interested in global climate change ESPECIALLY if you're an environmental studies major and want to learn the actual science of GHGs, air pollution, ozone, etc.
Great professor, easy class. Follow the study guides and you should be fine for the exams.
She is awesome. You need to show up each class to get the material and she takes attendance. Forget the book, but take it.
She is a great teacher, just the class is too hard for me.
She is very tough and fast paced. If you want to do good you have to keep up and review the material frequently. Do not use cell phones or laptops for facebook and other social media, she will give pop-up quizzes if she catches anyone doing so. Aside from this she is very good.
Hard class but good if you enjoy saving the world. Not as easy as it sounds but very interesting. She's a tough grader and hates people who skip or are on phones. Tests are hard as well but she's super cool and swears a lot which I love. Be ready to study from day one if you take this class and if you work 40 hours a week be ready to stay up late.
Really enjoyed this course. It's hard, but worth it.
Interesting, engaging, and relevant material for the most part; a bit circuitous at times. The instructor's material sometimes had holes in it and lacks further information. For the most part, though, the material was well presented. Some in class activities and review methods seemed unproductive. Overall, the class was good and I leaned a lot.
Speeds through lectures at an unreasonable pace but as long as she continues to post study guides and lectures online, you shouldn't have a problem with this class.
DISCLAIMER This review was bought for extra points on the final exam. She is an interested teacher but is mean while trying to be our "buddy." Course is not necessarily hard but her tests are. She provided great study guides and nerve-wracking mandatory "fun" study groups. I took the course to fit a science req, but this is only for science majors.
Grades for participation
Teaches through really good powerpoints, they are great to study from. Sets up class in that if you show-up you should be able to succeed.
Loved this class. It was really engaging and enjoyable. It's hard NOT to succeed if you work from the lectures and study guides. Haley is also really funny and clearly enjoys teaching. TAKE IT.
Speeds through material and doesn't make the classroom environment comfortable enough to ask questions
I took this class just to fulfill my science core class. I enjoyed it but I would make sure you are actually interested in the material. The Schiebel is very knowledgable and passionate about the material and is always helpful if you have questions. But you do cover a lot of info so be ready for that. You don't need the textbook.
This professor is a force to be reckoned with. She's great at teaching and knows her stuff, but if you mess around in class too much you'll get nowhere. Also she's funny and a nice change if you're used to old male professors that don't believe in in-class activities. Show up to class. TAKE THIS IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE IN GLOBAL WARMING
She is so fun! The material is immense and tough, but you can do it very easily with two things: showing up and reviewing the study guides. She makes it hard to fail. The class was long in time, but she made it manageable. Strongly suggest.
Powerpoints are confucsing but study guides are good
Supre fun and easy class if you are ready to work. Would take it again for sure. Don't waste money on the book. Her lectures are really thorough.
Really great professor, definitely knows her stuff and will try her best to make sure you understand what's going on. However, the class is tough, especially to those who think that the class will be easy since it is a freshman level class. Lots of memorization, too.
Talks very fast and won't slow down even after majority of students ask her to. She does not give back enough feedback. Her classes are not inspiring. She often lets us out 20 minutes early. All her exams are multiple choice and one extra credit opportunity, a 5 page paper. She left for Europe for 2 weeks and left us with a monotone sub grad studnt
She gave lots of opportunities for extra credit. You have to attend class.
I loved this class. I am taking her again next semester for a different course. I learned a lot.
Lots of group interactions. She will help you if you are struggling. I would take again.
She's the best science teacher I have ever had. Clear, organized and concise. Help's there if you seek for it. She is nice but can be very intimidating, but don't be afraid to ask for help, she's can be really helpful. Her class is interesting and engaging. Has a strong character, and cool personality. She's awesome!!
She gave lots of opportunities to make a good grade, but it was clear (to me) that sshe was more focused on us learning the material. She is the best teacher i have had and if she teaches something--- TAKE IT.
Awesome. Hot. Take this class.
the course started off good until she left us with a sub for 3 weeks who did not know the material on top of canceling classes. Did not think she acted professional and loved to look down at you. Everything you learn in class you teach yourself so you do not have to attend classes. Also donor pas out starburst during you group presentation.
I loved haley. She knew her material and was always prepared. She was also young and fun to listen to. I would take her classes agin for sure.
I took this as a summer class. It was a lot of material in a short time, bit I LOVED this class and prof. She made it fun to come to class and you have to... attendance is mandatory.
PRO: Strove for objectivity, was prompt in returning graded assignmentsexams, gave multiple extra credit opportunities. CON: Lectures often felt unorganized, too much wrote memorization, doesn't accept late work, occasionally condescending, grading systems flawedinconsistent, double standards for students vs. professor (i.e spellinggrammar).
She has a lot of passion for the subject. I learned a lot of useful information. However, some of the material was covered a little too quickly and some didn't seem too relevant to class (some useless memorization). Tests are relatively straightforward if you study, requires a little too much writing though. Overall decent, a good amount of work.
She made it very clear what was expected on every assignment. THere is a LOT of group work, but she knew her material every time. Tests are lengthy, but fair. She makes it clear that she watns you to succeed and gives lots of chances for extra credit.
Hayley is the bomb. Her class is pretty hard in that there's a lot of material, but if you show up and listen you'll probably do pretty well. She gives really helpful feedback, a lot of opportunities for extra credit, and she's crazy funny in the sassiest/best way ever. I don't study science but I would happily take any other class she taught.
This class was super interesting. It was hard and we covered a lot of material. I learned a lot. Hayley is the best professor I had at NU. If she is teaching anything- take it.
Amazing class and prof. She made this class fun and I learned a lot. She does expect you to work for a good grade.
Extremely strict. Gives pop quizzes if one of the students is on his/her phone. Makes a class that is supposed to be easy and fun a nightmare.
Took this as my elective. The material for the course was not difficult, and putting minimal effort in should get you the grade you want. Prof made the class more engaging through daily group assignments. Tests were easy so long as you studied the material. Gives pop quizzes if someone has a phone out or texts on their computer.
Took this class for my major and am borderline about to switch majors because she is so discouraging. Expects students to know everything when there are no pre-reqs. She only cares about herself. Gave bad grades with little to no feedback. Rarely available outside help. Save yourself the frustration and take another professor.
Did A+ work in this class and put so much effort in but was given a B- despite getting almost 100s on every assignment and test I was given. Belittles students and silences your voice. She discourages students who ask for help. She takes no steps into educating students and helping them learn. DO NOT TAKE
I was very disappointed that despite my unwavering effort and never missing a class, as well as receiving all As on exams, I was still given a B with no explanation. would not recommend this teacher.
Be prepared to teach yourself. She tests you relentlessly and does not teach you the material. She relies on her students to teach their peers and when asked for help she shuts you down and expects you to already know everything. She never gives a clear outline for anything but gets mad if you don't do things her way.
