amazing professor, she gives a practice exam that gives you a really good idea what the exam are going to be like. class is kinda mandatory, she gives clicker quizzes once a week and group activities once a week but they are easy points. TA is awesome too. favorite class!
Sure this class is a lot of work; there is something to turn in most every day. Even though Heather's lectures don't exactly make Acct more interesting, they are SO clear in explaining the material (way better than the textbook). You'll need the book for the HW though. The practice exams she gives are super helpful. Would recommend her
Heather is one of the best teachers I've had, and she is so adorable. Accounting is a tough class, but she makes it very easy to understand. She goes over every assignment in class so you understand it and is always willing to answer questions. The tests are difficult but definitely manageable if you study and go over the assignments beforehand.
Heather is by far one of the best professors I have ever had. Beyond being approachable and sweet, she explains the material in the most helpful way possible and is clear about expectations. Assignmentsquizzes make attendance importance but her lectures are enjoyable and go by fast. She provides practice tests, very similar to exams. Love her!
Heather is a great instructor! Lectures are easy to follow. Mini pre-lecture quizzes every week and chapter activities you do alone or in a group at the end of class (quizzes and activities are done at home before bringing into class). Exams are over half your grade, so give yourself time to study. Attendance taken at random via your clicker.
Very easy class and Ms. Altman gives very clear explanations.
Heather is the nicest professor I've had while at UA, she is very clear on what is expected to receive an A in this class. However if you want a good grade you have to study for the tests as they are over half of your course grade. She is also super helpful in office hours
Good teacher class in general is super boring.
Good and clear lecturer. She is passionate about the material, but moves through it a little slow. Class is not overly difficult, nothing but formulas to remember, but the exams are difficult if you let the material get away from you.
Heather is one of the best professors I have had at the UofA. She is extremely clear in grading criteria and content. A very well-organized class. The material is a little dull but Heather makes concepts clear. Take her for ACCT210 if you are able!! Never used textbook, just get the wiley code and online textbook!
The teacher is fine but the class is HARD. You need to teach yourself and practice as you go and a lot. You have to practice, go into office hours, and just make sure you get it as you are going and don't wait till before the test. Attendance is usually whenever there are clicker questions, but there is random clicker question attendance as well.
I took Altman for my first accounting class and she is very very smart in her field! Definitely makes it simple to understand and will answer questions that you may have! She really seems to care, the class may seem hard but she will help you to get the grade you can
Professor Altman is among the best teachers here at the U of A. She is so sweet and knows the material she is teaching and it shows. 2 tests and a final, homework about twice a week. Show up to class to fill in the powerpoint notes (very helpful) / attendance taken at random. I've decided to major in ACCT after taking this course with Altman!
Heather is a great instructor for a fairly difficult subject! She understands that it is hard, so she works to make sure everyone understands! I didn't take enough advantage of the resources available - office hours, lab, TA office hours, tutoring. Really, with all of the available help you can do it! And Heather is great!
Heather was by far one of my favorite teachers/professors of all time. She made me actually enjoy accounting which was a class I dreaded taking. She made the material easy and extremely understandable and I am now majoring in accounting because of her. The way she teaches makes everything make sense and it feels like your actually learning.
Heather is gifted at teaching. You can tell that she truly cares about her students performance and she is always willing to answer any questions. She handles her lectures in a very organized way. Tests can be tough because it is accounting but if you put in the work you will do fine!
Good professor, seems kind and reasonable in class. There are clicker questions about once a week that you must attend class to get points for and random attendance points. The tests determine a big portion of your grade so make sure to study. She seems really knowledgeable and passionate about accounting which makes the class more enjoyable.
Highly recommend reading the book. She is a wonderful person, don't be scared to go into office hours. However, her lectures are boring and hard to keep your focus on. Try your best to pay attention in class because lectures do help and it's hard to teach yourself everything a couple days before the test.
ACCT210 is a hard class but Heather tries to make lecture clear. Her handwriting is hard to read so make sure you listen when she speaks. Exams are tough but the guidelines are not clear as to what to study so read the book. She will not stray form the syllabus and it's "rules"
ACCT210 is a more difficult course, but Prof. Altman is a great teacher. She cares about her students and is really helpful in office hours.
This is another class that sucks but is mandatory. Super difficult and extremely boring, but Heather really cares about you as a person and it is obvious that she is a sweetheart. Aside from that, the class is absolutely dreadful and makes no sense. Super math heavy. Just pass it so you can get in to Eller!
Altman is a great teacher! She goes over the material thoroughly and gives a lot of opportunities to do well in the course. If you ask her a question she will always answer it and lead you to the correct thinking!
Heather is the best! Accounting is really hard, but Heather makes it easier to understand. She breaks questions down, does them in different ways, shows easier ways. Really a good, caring instructor. Go to office hours if you don't understand something, she will spend time helping you! Really cares about her students! 10/10 would recommend.
This was not an easy class but Heather is a great professor and cares about her students. Participation matters in the end when it comes down to your grade. She takes random participation points w/ clickers during the lecture. If you miss class a lot you are going to lose some points. Tests are challenging so much sure you study & ask questions
Heather Altman is one of my favorite professors at the U of A. She knows her material well and is great at explaining it to her students. This class is not an easy A, although an A is attainable if you are willing to work for it. Go to class to fill in slide notes, and there is an average amount of homework.
I did not enjoy having Heather teach Accounting 210. She zips through the class to cram as much material in as possible and doesn't leave much room for questions. Tests are difficult. There isn't too much homework and most of it is fairly easy. She is a kind person but I would not recommend her as a professor.
Hands down worst professor I have ever had at the University. She is boring and does not know how to teach well. It sucks that she was the only ACCT 210 professor because I did not have an option to learn from a good professor.
She's a very good professor. She teaches a very difficult class but that has nothing to do with her personal teaching style, Accounting is just difficult in general. She is willing to work with you outside of class to further explain concepts and she is extremely nice about it as well. Just be sure to actually read the textbook chapters, it helps
Heather is a great prof. but this is a tough class. She goes through the material very quickly, leaving it up to you to really grasp the material by putting in the time outside of class. However, she makes herself and the preceptors very accessible outside of class. You'll have to work for your gra, but Heather makes this class a little bit easier.
I love heather, I never understood ACCT200 and in ACCT210 I am doing so amazing!! Definitely try and get her as your prof.
Being completely honest, you have to haul ass to pass this class. But it makes you feel great when you do. Mrs. Altman opened my eyes to accounting and personally I love it so much! She tries her best to get you to understand, and does not grade easily but honestly it makes you work harder. Recommend her for ACC 200/210 or 250. She's awesome!
Very hard class but heather is probably the best 210 prof at uofa. She is super nice and gets things done on time. You gotta work in this class.
Test heavy class. She is a good teacher, just goes very fast in class during notes.
Altman is the best choice for 210! She makes you work for your grade as she goes through slides and material quick. You have to stay on top of the course and attend office hours/ lab to fully grasp material. Second test is by far the hardest but others are manageable. She cares about her students and give plenty of opportunities for help!
Heather was one of the best professors I have had. She really cares about her students and makes the material very easy to understand. The class is difficult but she makes it so much easier
Great teacher, recommend to do the accounting labs for extra credit. There is a lot of material to cover for this course so it will be lecture heavy so use the labs to synthesize each chapter. She is always in a good mood and will always give you a lot of in class problems.
Overall, Heather gives very clear explanations of the material in lecture. The study guides, homework, and **lab assignments (highly recommend!) prepare you well for the tests. However, lectures are a little rough due to their length and her expectation for participation. It just gets awkward. Also, she takes clicker attendance very often.
She is such a great professor for this subject. She goes into detail and actually goes step by step to make sure you understand the information. I would HIGHLY recommend this professor. She makes in-depth study guides, all you have to do is put an effort into this class to make sure you learn the material and you'll do well!
Very nice. Knowledgeable about the subject matter. Tries to break it down into easily understandable formulas. The formulas are all very similar & it can be very confusing.
As a woman taking her course, she truly inspired me. Not many professors seem like real humans, but I love that she shares about her daughter. She also explains what she has done with accounting, she is very credible. She is so nice and not intimidating. She just wants respect and her kids to succeed! Best accounting teacher at u of a, hands down.
I dislike her so much her way of teaching is so difficult she would always confuse me with her lectures. Literally one of the worst teachers I've ever had, I'm pretty good at accounting and I still found this class super difficult due to the way she taught. If you are thinking of taking her please SKIP. She sucks. I basically taught myself.
I have been a student in her class in person and online because of COVID-19. In-person, lectures were extremely long and lacked energy. It was second to second of her talking. Now that all classes are online, she has decided to make the class even harder adding quizzes that you have no time for. It's very frustrating and would not recommend her.
Heather is probably the worst accounting teacher at the UofA. In-class lectures are long, boring, and unenthusiastic. It's currently 2020, and she's still using a projector from 1945 to present a lack of material to the class. The tests are unbearably hard as she doesn't know how to actually teach the class. Overall an awful course.
Ms. Altman's lectures though very hard to sit through were not terrible but when switching to online due to COVID-19 she decided to change the entire course structure. This new structure making the tests even harder and even adding quizzes. It appears to me and many peers the class is no longer about learning and about her giving us a letter grade.
She's one of the best teacher in the accounting department, but it is a really difficult class. The class was much more doable before COVID, but the transition online wasn't the best and she did add more quizzes. She's great during office hours and very open w/ emailing you. She added a 6 pt curve to the exams to help. I would take her again.
Professor Altman has one of the most inefficient teaching methods. I have not learned a single thing from this course. I even earned an A in ACCT 200 with a MUCH lower rated professor. I teach myself everything in this course. Not to mention, shes the only professor who made class/exams more difficult after COVID19 rather than lighten the load.
Not understanding whatsoever. Made class way harder after things went online for some reason. Horrible professor all-around
When the class was in person her lectures were extremely difficult to pay attention to. It basically would consist of watching her take notes on a printed out powerpoint off of an Elmo projector on the front of the classroom. When everything got shifted online it basically has been the same thing but with an added level of difficult (added quizzes)
In-class discussions are completely pointless. Hard to follow but you're required to attend for necessary attendance points. I never learned much from listening to her in class and would have to teach myself all of the chapters for the tests. When the online structure hit she made it much harder for students. After students were failing, she curved
lectures are painfully boring and it's difficult to retain any of the information with the way she teaches it.
Heather is really awesome and super nice. While her class is challenging, going into her office hours helps. She's willing to work with confusing topics with you and help you figure out ways to understand the content better. ACCT 210 is a little bit harder than 200 because of the content, but she tries new things to make the class easier.
Pre- Covid-19: boring, wrote on paper notes in lecture, lacked explanations, voice is unbearable, hard tests, tedious hw. Now, mid-Covid: VERY difficult tests, ZERO empathy, HARD quizzes, not enough time to do lengthy problems, written completely different than how material was taught, cut NO slack despite the pandemic. she doesn't care about u!!!
WORST TEACHER EVER! DONT TAKE HER!!!! I RECIEVED AN 89.5 IN THE CLASS AND SHE DIDN'T ROUND ME UP! COMPLETELY PATHETIC TEACHER, BORING, AND NOT ENGAGING AT ALL!!!!!!!! DO NOT TAKE! I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE
She sucks, it seems as if the class got harder after the whole COVID-19 stuff. The quiz averages for the whole class was like 60% which is not even passing, and her lectures are the most boring thing on this earth. not engaging whatsoever, and her exams are very difficult. If u can skip this professor do so.
After transitioning to online she included quizzes which were hard and gave us very little time for them! Her exams always averaged to a D yet on the next ones she wouldn't make it easier or give us more time on it. Honestly, this class is a headache! I was 2% away from a B and she offered little extra credit.
She sucks. do not take. its like a difficult accounting class on steroids, gives lots of quizzes and work. Quiz averages are extremely low, and shes so boring. I give her a 0/10.
I took Heather for 210 and she is one of the all around best professors I have had. Not only does she explain the concepts exceptionally well, but she is very sweet and it is clear that she cares about her students.
She will talk for an hour and a half and you won't understand anything because you'll fall asleep. In line with the school's accounting department, just plan to completely teach yourself everything. Unfortunately attendance is mandatory. Definitely try to take another teacher that doesn't take attendance. Class is definitely not easy.
She's great as a person but she seems like she's reading from a script. There's no change in tone. I get that Accounting is numbers abd concepts, but even when she's talking about real life examples, it's the same tone. Every sort of content is relayed like that so you don't know what content you're taking in. I had to rely on the textbook.
Accounting is an incredibly difficult class. There is so much information and the tests are closed note making them very difficult. every other aspect is not bad -homework, quizzes, etc. but the tests are just awful.
A hard class made even harder by mindlessly boring lectures, but I guess that's the nature of accounting. Heather isn't a bad teacher and knows the material, but nothing is really done to make it palatable. It's a put your head down and grind class. Be ready for the tests because they count for most of your grade. HW/quizzes aren't too bad.
The worst professor I've had in all my years of schooling. That's not an exaggeration. She falsely accused me of HACKING/cheating on the zoom room for our final exam, failed me from ACCT210, and kicked me out of Eller. After I explained to her that I didn't cheat and was planning to get a lawyer to clear my name she took back what she said and did.
You have to take acct210 and it's difficult. Everyone knows that. But she's the best professor you can pick. Explains things well, knows her shit, fast with email replies, respectful. You have to study each lesson and prepare for each exam. Attendance is random on D2L so NO need to buy those clickers. People who hate probably didn't study for exams
Altman was an amazing professor. Everyone knows ACCT 210 is hard, so anyone who wrote a bad review likely got a bad grade in the class and blamed it on Altman. If you attend class, do your homework, and study hard, you will do well in the class. Also, give yourself around 4 solid nights to study and watch the review videos!!! it helped me a lot!
she kinda just talks at you during her lectures, not to you. she barely explains and moves very fast when the class time is super long. the worst class I've ever had
Accounting 210 is a difficult course to teach. But Professor Altman flew through the lectures to the point where it felt like she needed to get through so many slides so we could stay on course. My classmates and I ended up having to teach ourselves most of the material. If you out in a lot of extra work, you can succeed in this class.
I learned nothing in her accounting class, nothing. Exams make up 76% of your grade in this class, while homework, discussion posts, and other assignments make up 24% of your grade. You're doomed if you don't pass at least one exam well. She offered little assistance and had zero flexibility. In this class, honor lock is in effect, just a heads up
If you like accounting and numbers, this class will be easy. However, the teacher is incredibly boring and spends 30 minutes at a time talking about things that could be taught in 5 minutes. Useless class as well.
Professor Altman is amazing! She is very experienced and passionate about the material. She gives you everything you need to succeed in this class. Accounting is difficult but if you show up to lectures and study for exams you should be just fine.
Exams are the only assignments that count for anything in this course.Exams make up over 70% of your grade. All other assignments count for almost nothing. During our very last exam she offered 1 point of extra credit if we did the course surveys, I'm assuming because most of the class was nearly failing.
Altman is honestly a great teacher for how hard managerial accounting is. You need to put in work outside of the class to do well & ACTUALLY pay attention in class, but she explains everything well. Exam & formula heavy, but if you study it's straightforward. Only complaint is she talks a little quiet, but other than that she's great & I recommend!
Like someone else said, exams are like 70% of your grade and they are all taken with honorlock. Be prepared to do a lot of studying. Class average for most of our exams were 61%-70%. She offered 5 points EC if we took the student class surgery at the end of the course
Heather is caring for the most part. The course format is almost identical to ACCT210. Lectures are monotone but she tries her best, and you cannot expect great excitement out of basic accounting. Study the slides and you'll be fine for tests. Overall, decent and easy course for what it is
personally, she talked very quickly during the lecture and I got spoiled with an extremely small accounting 200 class, so it was hard to adjust. She is very kind during office hours and offers detailed answers that help you understand why you were wrong. Make sure you take detailed notes during the class and pay attention to specifics.
Professor Altman is a nice person, and she cares for her students to do well. I had an easier time in ACCT200 paying attention during lectures because of the teaching style however if you apply time to practice outside of class, you will do fine. Accounting is different for everyone though. Some people have to study for days and some not at all.
Professor Altman was a wonderful accounting teacher and is very knowledgeable in the content she covers. I found her classes to be very slow, which made it more difficult to focus, but she taught her content well and was great at answering questions. Tests will be a HUGE part of your grade, the extra practices are incredibly helpful for studying.
Heather is a very sweet and caring person, she just wasn't my favorite professor. She clearly cares and puts a lot of effort into her lectures, but it doesn't translate well. She goes very fast and doesn't teach what's mentioned in slides or textbook. Lectures confused me so I ended up relying on myself to teach the concepts to do well on tests.
Unfortunately, the classroom is very very very crowded, which can make it hard to pay full attention during lectures. Additionally, I've noticed that the course relies heavily on tests to see how much we understand, and I find the tests to be quite difficult.
Managerial accounting is hard. Given that, Heather does really good making sure we can power through it. She is a very kind person who deeply cares about hher class but since the material is extremely hard it may seem like shes a bad teacher. The lectures are long but the material is also long so it equates.
Altman puts effort in her lectures but I wouldn't consider her good. Due to the large amount of content she would skim over core conceptual to get to the calculations faster. She has great lecture videos, but the other teachers post the same ones on their D2L. Do yourself a favor and take the other ACCT 210 teachers (Katie or Alison)
Heather did a great job explaining the concepts and applying real life scenarios to her lectures. She always had a positive attitude when teaching and provides tons of resources and wants you to succeed. As long as you pay attention, study and put the extra time in you will be good. She offers some extra credit at the end too. Take her class!
Very straightforward class and professor, homework was not hard and exams are fairly easy. Just show up to lecture and you will do fine.
Prof Altman is a very average professor. You won't become an accounting expert after this course, but you will know what's needed for the exams, which are in person, but not extremely difficult. Prepare to take notes, or cram if you're that kind of guy. Attendance is needed twice a week, and the location was rough, but it's manageable.
Unfortunately for the students, she does not seem to care about whether or not we actually learn and comprehend the course material. She seems to be one of those teachers that just clocks in and out of work/lectures and just goes through the motions.
Professor Altman is one of the best professors for Accounting, just took it this Fall 2024 semester, she indeed is the best!
So chill. easy content and lots of EC
Heather has been my favorite professor so far. She truly cares about her students and makes ACCT 210 much more manageable. The class is tough, so I recommend studying ahead and practicing regularly. Lectures are posted online, but even though only five attendance days are required, I suggest going as often as possible.
She talks too fast and does not really care if the material is understood. Seems like she is there because she has to be.
The tests make up most of your grade. As a professor, she's fine. The lectures were incredibly boring and honestly not very helpful, which is frustrating when attendance is randomly taken. You'll learn more from the homework than from anything you'll do in class, so I'd recommend just taking the L on the attendance points and save your time.
I feel like accounting can't be taught properly in lectures, definitely should be average class sizes. You can tell she does try when teaching. Exams have answer choices that appear when you do the wrong or not enough of the equations which messed me up as this was not the case in accounting 200. I would study for hours and it did not help on exams
