NOt easy, BUt NOT HARD. SHE IS VERY FAIR. PRETTY INTERSTING CLASS
Takes ages to return work. Does not use "My Grades" on ecampus. Hard to predict grade. You MUST be able to do math. You MUST show all calc work in math even when it does not ask for it. Knows subject very well. Loves her subject. Test covers both her slides and Text book. Very hard "A", difficult "B". Very approachable, easy to talk to.
VERY HARD CLASS. No consitent marks for work. Homework could have 8 - 50 points, pop quiz 5 - 8 points both same weight. So mathemeatically challenging to get an A. Extra credit gains you a max 2% on grade. If your an A student... don't expect help. Seems concerned only with a pass.
Extremely HARD if this is not your major. I am normally an "A" student, and it took more effort than I have ever put into a class to maintain a "D". This is ideal for Physics Majors. Teacher makes it interesting and she is really fun. Don't expect any reviews or curves for test b/c the students majoring are making A's.
She wasnt easy, but not hard if you pay attention & take notes.Tests are easy if you read the textbook & copy her slides. When I took the class, the slides were available online.Attendance never seemed to be a big deal. She let us have a notecard with us for the test.Type out notes in small font, glue it to the notecard. She doesnt mind.Very fun class!
She is really sweet. But her class was time consuming! A lot of work to do daily, and the tests were tricky!
Mrs. Appleby is a friendly enough person, but I would not recommend her as a teacher. The notes she gave in class conflicted with what was in the book. She took the questions to her tests from the Internet (or at least this was her method when I was in her class).
VERRRRRRRRRRRRRYYYYY HARD never take her, ever, ever...... NO way. really bad teacher no explanations at all. HARD tests which have nothin to do with what she says
She is an easy and good professor. Rememeber that physics is hard, you really have to study to follow the course. That's why you have to do homework to understand the lecture. The test is not tricky. It's all from the book or what she posts on ecampus. Achieving an A is not hard.
easy and good professor. Study carefully and the course will be not hard.
The physics course was very challenging and hard, but Mrs. Appleby was always willing to help. She always stayed after class to help me with whatever I needed.
I failed this class! Tests where not over notes. Tests questions where the questions in the back of the book, to which the book was confusing. Lectures where useless cause she just post the power point online. Would not recommend this teacher.
Doesn't explain notes or what is going to be on te test. Doesn't have free time for tutoring.
Mrs Appleby is always willing to help out but you have to show her that you care. She is challenging but if you pay attention in the first couple of classes you'll understand her teaching style and the main concepts. Unfortunately I didnt take her class seriously until the end :( but shes a pretty good teacher just dont make the same mistakes I did
Hands down the best class I've ever taken. Appleby is a wonderful professor. This was definitely one of the hardest classes I've ever taken as well, but I gained (and retained) so much information from this class that I recommend it to everyone I know. I took it to fulfill my science requirements; now I'm in love with astronomy.
This is a very difficult class. It is fun at times, but when it comes to tests, forget about it. I actually take an interest in this subject, but the tests were ridiculous, and the labs were no cakewalk either. However, Mrs. Appleby is a sweet, nice teacher in every way, except for the god-forbidden tests. Take this course only if you can't stand b
Personally, Prof. Appleby is a great teacher. She is very willing to help and understanding. Her tests however, are extremely difficult. Her teaching is fast paced and her she is sometimes not clear in her lecture. All in all, a great person, but if you are not good in science courses, this is probably not the professor for you.
Well i can honestly say that she is a wonderful teacher. Her test are extremely hard!!In order for you to be prepared for her test you MUST read your text book if you want to pass her class!!
This class is EXTREMELY stressful. Great teacher, but good luck passing! The tests are extremely difficult too. Nice teacher, but if you want to make a good grade turn the other way! You have to study the book 24/7. Do not recommend.
VERY brilliantly taught class. Hard? Yes, very, but the amount that you learn is incredible. Even if you do make a poor grade, you walk away with a very good walking-knowledge of Physics rather than just memorizing the material short term. HIGHLY RECOMENDED!
Mrs. Appleby is knowlegdable in the subject of Physics. You can and learn much from her lectures. But her tests are extremely difficult. If you w to take a challenging class, this is it.
WONDERFUL. the only physics professor who ever made any sense at all. WONDERFUL. WONDERFUL. WONDERFUL.
BEST PHYSICS PROF. she's helpful very knowledgeable and easy to understand. The material is hard but it's physics.. to be expected. She tests you on the material to see if you understand not if you can multiply. Study and practice conceptual questions!
Professor Appleby is amazing. She is by far the best instructor I have had. Physics is hard, but she makes it fun. You have to do your part, but she takes care of hers. I wish I had taken her both semesters.
Appleby is a quirky science nerd who has a passion for physics. I'm going to tell you STRAIGHT up--if you don't study your book (mainly) + her powerpoints like a maniac, expect to fail. I aimed for an A and got a 91 so an A isn't impossible, but read the chapters and ESPECIALLY the practice questions at the end of each chapter/the yellow box q's.
I'm shocked a few people have mentioned how difficult this class is. The test questions often are picky things we didn't discuss in class (it's in the book)..this is the hardest class I've ever taken. Got an A but worked my butt off, and that's a huge understatement. Late night study sessions all the way, even if you already know the stuff
She is a REALLY hard teacher. If you do not like reading the book, you are screwed. Even if you just skim it and take notes, that's not enough. The book is your bible in this class and you need to read it at LEAST twice. She is a great person, but HARD teacher.
Easily the worst online class I've ever taken. Not a single paper was graded until the last date to withdraw by. Even now, days after the class has ended, more than 3/4 of the papers still have yet to be graded. Recycled old assignments from previously classes so no dates made sense.
Super hard teacher. She is a very sweet lady who knows what she is talking about, but I don't recommend taking her for Physics. She expects the class to read each chapter 3-4 times. Her tests are all based from the book so buying the book is extremely recommended.
Expect to receive a low grade if you do not study for the test. She isn't easy, but she is hilarious and interesting.
I'm a person who usually makes all A's. Although I didn't make the best grade in the class she is a fantastic teacher (this is during a summer semester, that's the main reason). Study the homework hard for the tests and she is energetic, funny, and one of the best teacher's I have had.
This is not a course to take online with her, communication through email is very limited. You will be on your own. Somebody got their money's worth from this class, too bad it wasn't the students.
She is clearly passionate about astronomy and physics however she is not passionate about teaching or students. She consistently fails to cover material on the tests and if she makes a mistake or crap grades you dont hope for a change because it wont happen. You wont get any grades back until the end of the semester. whole class failed one test.
STAY AWAY! Doesnt teach material on tests. Questions are subjective. Material isnt to hard but her tests are impossible. You will fail with her!! Doesnt matter how many times you read book and study you will still fail. Trust me Im an honor student. Our whole class had to retake a test die to unacceptable overall grades. Stear Clear!!
Tests are impossible b/c she does not teach it and not in book. Tried as hard as I could in class and still did real bad. I feel bad I pay her money to hang me out to dry like that. No way to do well in this class.
I have made all A`s my entire life, and this semester in college this was my only grade which was not an A. This teacher will not help you and she does not care whether you pass or fail. If you are given the option do not take her as a professor. She will tell you to read the textbook and talk a bunch about "how to pass." Although it does not work.
I have never made a grade lower than a B until this class. Making a D in Professor Appleby`s class is outstanding. It is the equivalent of making an A in any other class ever. She will not help you. The only grade that matters is the final and she will not post anything until the end of the semester.
Class subject material not hard at all, very interesting but conceptually easy Teacher however is ice cold, no compassion and tests dont cover material in class or book i was very disapointed Its like she purposly sabotoges her students pick someone else if possible or dont take this class.
DO NO TAKE HER! She is smart but doesnt care about students. No review she cant even remember when tests are and material is. Dont know why she became a teacher if she hates kids so much. You will not pass this class no matter how hard you try.
Hard class. Nice teacher. Very knowledgeable. Do the extra credit. Study using book and quizlet and ppts. Probably gonna make a B since i didnt do the extra credit. She drops lowest test. Very helpful if you pay attention and are good.
WARNING: This is a legit review and this is a terrible professor. I did the extra credit but she didnt take it because I handed it to her after the class had started. Nonsense tests. Poor attitude. Stear Clear. Not Kidding!!!
I took her class last summer and all i can say is you have to work hard to earn your grade... go through the powerpoints , attend the lab assignments and homework assignments, if you pay attention well you will get the class, is very helpful so you earn your grade with her...
She's a tough grader, and you may have to read the chapters 2 or 3 times. She's extremely interesting and animated during her lectures; they feel more like discussions because participation is highly encouraged. She cares more that you learn the material than make a good grade. Highly recommend this professor. Not easy, but you will learn so much.
She gives very great lectures but her tests are VERY difficult. If you're trying to get an A, don't bother taking her. Must have TIME and put in ALOT of EFFORT to even pass.
Great classroom environment...
Professor Appleby was definitely one of the most challenging, yet greatest professors I've ever had. Her lectures were the very precise and crystal clear. She tries to get student's engaged in her lectures like combining us into little group activities so we actually UNDERSTAND and RETAIN the information. Just build a relationship, and work hard.
Appleby's a fantastic lecturer and has a great easygoing personality. She made class a lot of fun. She really engages her students with group activities. She's also the toughest professor I've ever taken (it is 5 weeks of condensed calc-based Physics). Unless you're a savant at Physics, don't expect to get an A (passing is a challenge as is).
She is very good at explaining things but her test are IMPOSSIBLE to pass. Her class is very rigorous and I hated it. Unless you like a challenge, I would not recommend taking her class.
Although she is a tough professor, her lectures are good. She teaches well and cracks a few jokes here and there. I respect her even though it is tough to pass. You will have to study, read your textbook, and look up quizlets in order to pass since her tests are the hardest parts.
Prof appleby isnt as bad as everyone makes her out to be. shes a tough grader, and her tests are very hard, but if you put in the work, passing shouldn't be hard at all. As are very possible in her class! Also the BEST science teacher ive had. she makes learning physics fun and interesting
Appleby is a wonderful professor. She really has a way of pulling the class together to spread her knowledge of physics in a comical manner. She is open to questions and answers them in a very encouraging way. Tests are hard for many, but aren't impossible. Make sure you LISTEN during lectures and read the textbook. Also, keep extra credit in mind.
Her classes are fun and she does go over the concepts really clear. However when it comes to the test there so confusing. The test is not clear exactly what she is asking.
This is one of the most difficult class I have ever taken
*PHYS 1404 She does not enter grades right away. We had to wait until the VERY LAST DAY (the day professors are required to turn in grades) to find out what our grade was. She does not reply to emails at times. No test reviews. The only good thing about her was her enthusiasm for the subject. I don't recommend her. Even the "smart" kids struggled.
Hard class. You need to study at least 3 hours each day out of the class.
The professor is great! It's just she doesn't have time to reply back on emails and update her syllabus for new class terms which gets the dates all confusing. Especially if you're taking an online class.
You have to do your work and earn your grade, but overall she's a great teacher.
Going into this class I had a 4.0, leaving I was lucky to make a C. It was very hard to get a hold of her via email and since this was an online class it was critical. She was nice when meeting face to face but this was the HARDEST class I have taken. I understand this is a college class but this class was a lot harder than it should of been.
Very nice person. However, she doesnt really teach us how to solve problems in class. I had to get a tutor for the homework or otherwise it will take 8-9 hours to complete it. I have never needed a tutor until this class. By far, the hardest one Ive ever taken. I really think the prof could do better by giving some examples of the assignment
She's very nice but is a very tough grader, she expects everyone to participate. I highly encourage the textbook, in order to study. Sometimes she has a warmup question or like an exercise at the beginning of the class. She makes everyone speak up.
I don't understand all of the reviews saying this professor is difficult. If you show up and pay attention, you will pass. Her lectures are engaging and fun and I found myself looking forward to them.
The hardest class ever taken because she likes to trick you with her exam questions. No example were ever used and the weekly reading was too much for no reason. The labs were boring and never really connected. Toughest grader and physics is an actual fascinating topic but I spent too many nights not sleeping over this class
Just like the restaurant Applebees, you think her class would be fine for the semester and she presents herself as a great professor, but I knew I made a mistake once entering. She presents herself as a great professor (which she isn't), but don't go if you want to spend nights on end studying material. Just like the restaurant, she fails as a prof
As a person, she is really sweet, but her class is extremely hard. Im a sophomore and never dropped from any class and this was my first. Take this class if you rly want to be challenged to the point where you can't dedicate time for any other class. If you have an average IQ, stay away! If you are gifted talented, or enjoy physics, you'll have fun
Professor Appleby is an ASTRONOMICAL professor. Reading your textbook, engaging in the class material, and voicing your confusion or understanding of a topic is a must. Professor Appleby will not treat you like a child. She expects adult behavior and will treat you as such. An adult. In-office conversations are recommended, as they are the best.
Professor Appleby cares for her students. Truly. From her course, you not only learn Conceptual Physics, but you also learn the importance of self-confidence, study methods, and gained resilience. In my experience, reading the class text, the powerpoints, attending class, and notetaking are all necessities. DO visit this professor after class!
She is really amazing though she wants you to do a lot of work but still, if you are facing problems with any concept, she always will be there to help you.
I've never been more disappointed in a class. Perhaps its the pandemic, but who knows. If you're expecting quick responses or online lectures, this isn't the class for you. Your methods for learning are the textbook and a series of YouTube videos she's posted. We're half way through the semester, and only have 2 things graded, neither of them tests
I took Prof Appleby for Summer I, and she was so terrible. It's amazing how ignorant she can be. She got mad at us once for not paying attention in lecture. Has it occurred that maybe if you didn't assign so much Sapling hw, we would pay attention in your boring class? Very tough grader and doesn't have any idea how sig figs work. Got a C in here
I took this class as a junior in High School as a part of the collegiate program. This class is VERY test heavy. Each test was worth 20% of our total semester grade. Our first test the highest grade was a 62%. MANY vague and tricky questions on the test that NO AMOUNT OF STUDYING CAN PREPARE YOU FOR. I attended every class. OFFERS NO EXTRA CREDIT!!
If you email to ask for help, hope you can wait a week. If you want to teach yourself everything with minimal guidance and unclear instructions then this is the class for you. Also nothing was graded in a timely fashion. Out of 13 labs, only 2 were graded. The new professor who took over couldnt grade everything before the due date.
I only needed to take this class because I needed physics 1 so i used this class as a learning experience. It was a challenging class because the professor was never available. she made up excuses through out the entire online fall semester. And her grading tactics were ridiculous. Thankfully, the new instructor was lenient and more open to meeting
I never struggled with a class more. She was good with in-class activities, but her lectures never explained how to solve homework problems. It's like she explains the simple basics in class, but then your homework is rocket science and you are left alone with it. Ridiculously hard, confusing tests, and minimal extra credit. Would not recommend.
Very little to no lectures. Everything is straight from the textbook. Everything is self-taught. Labs are long and confusing. You're like expected to already know this stuff before taking the class. Concepts and lessons are easy but will leave you stranded in labs with no help. You can't call yourself a teacher if you don't give lectures.
This was THE worst professor I have ever had, Don't listen to the good reviews. This class is very time-consuming and takes away from other classes and life in general. She doesn't read or reply to emails. I sent her one during the first week of school, and she has yet to reply. PLEASE dodge a bullet, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. it's not worth it.
PLEASE, do NOT take this Professor. She is the worst professor I have ever had. She doesn't respond to emails, doesn't grade assignments, and blames YOU for not understanding material when she doesn't give the resources to FULLY understand it. 90% of my class dropped within the first month. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
STAY CLEAR OF THIS PROFESSOR WHO DOES NOT TEACH! She does not grade items until the last second, never responds to emails, gives ZERO direction on tests and expects you to know all the answers by ONLY reading the textbook material. Procter's all her test's and will give NO study guide. Does not matter how much you read the textbook you will not pass.
The biggest downfall of taking professor Appleby's class is that her lectures only cover conceptual topics in an incredibly math-heavy physics course. Despite half of each exam and all of the labs being purely math, you are left alone to figure out how to complete them. If you care about your GPA, save yourself the trouble and avoid this class.
No lectures which makes the class 10x difficult. Don't try google because you won't be able to find any help. Had to drop the class less than a month in. Labs were pure nonsense that had nothing to do with the textbook. You will only pass with pure luck. This class made me hate space.
She provides 0 lectures so learning the material is all on you. You have to read a chapter, do a 2 hour lab, do a 40 question homework, and a 50 question exam in one week. EXAMS ARE 45% OF YOUR GRADE + 20% CUZ THE FINAL. 65% OF YOUR GRADE IS EXAMS. Dont even bother trying to google your way out she writes her own questions yet takes weeks to grade.
She is one of the only professors I have ever had who really takes a personal aim to your education as a young adult. Teaches mostly conceptually, but tests don't require extensive math. Homework sucks (achieve), but it is only 15% of grade so.. buy chegg-worst test is dropped, provides study guides as of Summer 2023. Offers extra credit.
She gives one extra credit assignment. I got a response to two of multiple emails, only after some time. No lectures, her slides were just copied and pasted from the textbook. She had 30+ sections of homework due every 2 days, many technical errors with exams, no feedback on exams, and no review materials for exams 2, 3, and the final. DON'T TAKE!
This professor has a tendency to call out young adults if we are trying their best but i as a person feel teased around this professor and it gets very difficult for people who have problems even though I would not recommend it because they have a tendency to do so and their is so joy and no happiness or any partners so by law they have to help
Just from starting this class a few days ago, I can already tell that this professor is a walking headache. Absurd amount of work due every single day including a 15 page lab report that you have two days (but really one because you have ANOTHER lab report due the day before) to complete. Homework due on test days, no answers for practice problems.
After a certain point with the lab, the instructions just stop making sense and there are multiple mistakes within them. This class is not worth it, you learn nothing and you're on a constant time crunch. The professor is additionally willing to grade you harsh despite offering LITERALLY NO GUIDANCE. She's using labs from 2006 with no corrections.
This is an online accelerated course on the basics of Physics. Heather Appleby has made this course incredibly difficult. Probably more difficult than necessary. Although she did give resources on how to study, she isn't accessible. I emailed her 4 times only for these emails to go unanswered. She grades labs and tests harshly.
How is she a professor??? awful loads of homework DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DONT TAKE HER CLASS
DO NOT TAKE
Honestly the worst professor ever and no boundaries. Treated students less than human and when i asked her questions she just told me to "ask a friend". This teacher is a walking talking migraine and u should avoid her at all costs. i used to love these sorts of classes. she made me hate space.
I've had trouble with this class since the beginning. A lot of my homework and labs weren't graded and so it said I was failing during progress report time. Now I'm disputing my final grade because it seems she only graded my labs and not everything else. I've sent multiple emails with no response all throughout the semester. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
If you want 14 page labs (not including the random data tables), assignments without lessons, no guidance, and no mercy, this is for you!
cancel her, this is truely unacceptable
This professor doesn't teach, doesn't provide helpful materials, and creates confusing, error-filled questions. She's unapproachable and dismissive when students ask for help. The class feels like we're set up to fail. Honestly, she should not be teaching at all. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
As an old student of hers, I think this professor is undergoing some changes in her life, particularly since 2020/COVID and quarantine. She used to be more understanding. My coin would be to avoid her courses, she needs to have a break from teaching and take time for herself - anonymous
Don't ever bother taking if you get this professor because it's impossible to pass.
This professor is the worst professor I have had while attending at Dallas College. Anything that's not a lab doesn't matter because apparently you needed a 60% completion of the labs to pass the class. I wasted so much time trying to catch up with assignments because she post new assignments every single day and turn it in in 2 days. AVOID
I will never take this professor again, not only did she argue, she hated reading emails and will find a way to turn any email about the work against you.
She explains concepts really well during lecture, but she doesn't teach the math in a math-focused class. Labs are easy but almost always go over 3 hour mark, homeworks are fine, but tests ARE HARD (all frq). Study guides do not help at all except maybe one question and when asked to explain math, she is dismissive.
