Very nice teacher and person. She was very helpful. I would enjoy taking her class again. It helps that she is very beautiful also.
Great teacher would take her again in a heartbeat, she gives papers back with comments then allows you to redo papers for better grade if you chose.
Nice lady. Great class. Wish I could take her again.
OMG the best teacher ever!!! take her for every english class you ever have to take. +

Unfortunately I had to drop the class because of time contraints and stress, but from what I did take she was interesting and a very good instructor!
I took her for every english class I could. Best teacher ever. If you don't take her, you're missing out on an awesome education. And that makes me sad for you.
She rocks!!! She is absolutely one of the coolest teachers I've ever had. Great for a freshman comp class! She helped us with anything and she challeneged us too! She even said we could bring coffee and food into her class since it was so early in the morning. Take her if you can!!

Helpful, but not as easy as these people are saying. She will let you redo a paper in her class, but she is very boring, and by the book. She expects too much in her papers. Take another prof like Sharp, or Onega if you can.
she tends to have boring by the book lectures. she is helpful if u ask for it and tells u what she wants in a paper. grading not soo good. she'll give u a low b with hardly any comments. i'd take anotehr teacher
mrs. cross was very helpful as long as i asked for help. she will not help you if you don't ask. her lectures were kinda boring but she would throw in jokes and stuff to make it funny. i def recommend her. her grading is harder than i was used to but after the first paper i was certain about what she was looking for in a paper.
Not a bad teacher, pretty fundamental stuff. If you can clearly communicate through writing you shouldn't have any trouble.
Her topics were a little boring but they were out of books approved by the department. She was very helpful and made an effort to assist you with writing.
if you can get mrs. cross, do it. while she'll not give you an a for turning in anything (she's fond of giving 89s), she's funny and her classes aren't hard. if you ask for help, she'll give it to you. she does curse in class, but that just tells me she's a really laid back teacher.
Awesome teacher...will work with you in all ways and makes the class interesting. Great sense of humor and interesting teaching methods! Definetly recommend her to anyone who likes English or doesnt
if you can write essays, take this class. that's pretty much where the grade comes from...4 essays and a final. she goes over everything we read in class, and has a great sense of humor. she is very understanding and will help you out if anything comes up. lets you rewrite any inclass essay and any regular essay that is a D or F.
Mrs. Cross is FABULOUS. I loved her. She is funny, and makes class interesting. We spent one class watching Def Poetry Jam. She is always willing to help.
Excellent teacher. The class isn't easy, but it's not nearly as tedious as some other teachers will make it. Revisions are available for many of the assignments. Mrs. Cross makes a potentially terrible class pretty good.
I love literature and this was the first teacher I ever had that made it boring. I don't mind essays but all her lectures were a summary of the reading instead of a discussion. If you don't want to think for yourself then take this professor. Otherwise, avoid her at all cost.
One of my top 3 teachers I have had at UAH. Very responsive to emails and questions, received answers the same day if not within an hour or two of my email. Class is not as easy as one would think but several assignments can be revised. Would recommend, makes what could be a extremely boring class fun. Good sense of humor!!!
FABULOUS! She knows what she's doing. Entertaining, funny, and fair. You actually need to know what you're writing about for her, but if you actually pay attention in class you will ace it. I would recommend her for anything. Except fresh comp. because she needn't waste her talents on a manditory class full of scum. HA.
Excellent teacher that holds your attention and surprises you at times. Makes you remember and you can tell she has put in time refining her coursework. VERY responsive about any sort of question through email and even contacted me when I didn't turn something in to check on me! Very much appreciated and she's downright funny too. =)
She was a good teacher
OH, YEAH! OH, YEAH! She's extremely sarcastic and very edgy. You could ask her any question and she can quickly determine whether the question or the one asking the question was stupid. She loves to read essays that make her go OMG WTF and ones that that make no sense whatsoever. And those aren't the ones that get an A. English major here.
Mrs. Cross is awesome! i loved her class. her teaching style is very....modern. if you dont like hearing f-bombs or talk about dead or decapitated things then shes not for you. she gets your attention and makes english more interesting.
Ms. Cross is effing hilarious! Sometimes she would get off topic and talk about something completely random, but somehow relates it back to the course. The class is nothing but writing papers. She grades kind of tough but it helps you see what you've done wrong & improves your writing. She allows you to rewrite your papers for a better grade.
Whatever dude below me. Ms. Cross is so awesome that this is my second time taking her for an English course. You'd have to be a moron to not make a good grade in her class. Have you ever thought that...maybe you just suck at writing papers? Didn't think so.
I don't think we need to be name calling. Whoever said Mrs.Cross isn't good probably does not do what they need to do for good grades. Mrs. Cross is a great teacher! GREAT! I'm taking her next semester for Lit 2 and I can't wait! She will help students in any way that she can and she is hilarious. You rock Mrs.Cross!!!
real professional, a credit to the university. Very helpful and very clear about assignments. top notch professor, highly recommend taking one her classes.
Cross is very entertaining. She grades fairly and if you pay attention in class your pretty much guranteed to pass... Unless you suck at writing papers
Great Prof. Pick your group project members carefully. it'll make or break you. do the work and your life will be easy. fun teacher and person. you'd be lucky to have her.
She's alright, she tries to crack jokes too much that aren't really funny or extremely inappropriate. She grades pretty fairly, maybe a little tough for this level class. I think everyone just makes B's. Take her if you enjoy crude humor.
I took Mrs. Cross for both World Lit I & II. She is very easy, no outside work except essays that are graded fairly. The majority of people never read a single one of the readings and still get a decent grade. If you are religious or at all morally conscience I wouldn't recommend her, her lectures sometimes offend people. She is interesting though.
Great class, was fun and easy to understand. Those with issues only needed to ask for assistance and they more than received it.
She is pretty good. Makes you work hard for your grades though. But she will work with you if you put in the effort. Very good professor.
Cross is a great Teacher and grading is fair. If you news help just ask and she will work with you. Almost makes me wish I needed to take more Wnglish courses. Almost!
Mrs. Cross is a great teacher. She may be a little long-winded but she is the best english teacher you will have here at UAH. I highly advise you to take her! :)
Possibly the best Lit teacher I've ever had. I found myself actually learning interesting information rather than being bored to tears every class. Her grading is fair and the work isn't hard, but if you offend easily, avoid this class. I found her sense of humor amazing, but it's easy to see how it could offend some people.
Dr. Cross is amazing! You will love her. she makes class enjoyable and fun. she is extremely helpful and she knows what she is doing. if possible, take all the classes she is teaching. i guarantee you will make a A.
Was a great teacher and very helpful in class. She was also really funny and made the class very fun. I would recommend her to anyone, and plan on taking one of her classes again.
Class was boring at times but she keeps it lively and fun. I would recommend taking her.
Really wonderful teacher, high energy level, keeps the class interesting. She's fun to talk to and really helpful, but if you're easily offended, she might not be the best teacher. Watched movies like A Clockwork Orange, which is pretty shocking to see in class. Still, if you need an elective or required World Lit course, I definitely recommend her
Mrs.Cross is a great teacher, the class is an easy A/B. She is really funny as well and blunt. The class can get boring at times though. I would recommend taking her class.
She is awesome teacher. She really cares about her students and if she see you trying then she'll help.
Professor Cross is a fantastic teacher. Her lectures are mostly discussions on the readings the night before. There are reading quizzes but she always warns you the class before. She allows you to revise your papers if you are unhappy with your grade. She makes the class fun even if the material is not super exciting. One of the best!
So interesting! She is incredibly blunt, but in a way that is not offensive. She is beyond willing to help anyone who needs it and offers revisions on her papers. Even if the material is lacking, which it rarely is, she finds a way to make it seem interesting. I would take anything taught by her.
CROSS IS THE BEST ENGLISH TEACHER AT THIS UNIVERSITY!!!!! I loved her from the first day of class, and I will definitely be taking my lit class with her too.
Ms. Cross is funny and relates to students well. The class was strictly papers and attendance with no tests. It's hard to get an A on the papers, but she lets you correct them. The class isn't too hard, but leave yourself time to write the papers.
I had her for Lit 207 and I hated the class. Lectures were miserable and she grades super tough on all of your papers. Participation plays a huge role on your grade. If you are looking for an easy A, steer clear.
She is really funny and very nice. She gives revision option for all essays, but she grades them SUPER tough, so go to her for help.
Fairly straightforward English class. You'll only need to write 4 papers for the class, including the research paper. She's a fairly tough grader, but she'll let you revise your papers except for the research paper. If you want an A, you will definitely need to work for it if you're not the best writer. She makes the class pretty enjoyable.
Do NOT take this class if you cannot stand to listen to cussing. Otherwise, it's ok.
Dr. Cross is hilarious and makes the most boring reading assignment bearable. That said, getting an A in her class was very very hard. The papers were graded extremely stringently. Write your paper early and take it to her for feedback if you want an A. At least she didn't give many quizzes though.
Tough class, but can easily get an A if you try and participate. MAKE SURE you go to her office hours or set up appointments. She was always willing to help, work with you on your paper, provide feedback and suggestions, etc.
Explains the course material and what is required very well. After papers are turned in, allows for us to make them up for a better grade. Very few quizzes or tests, if any, but lots of reading. Accessible outside class. Requires participation. Also, very funny!
AVOID! Gives UNCLEAR feedback, and she gave us an extra credit opportunity, but she had the math wrong when announcing it. That was PATHETICally misleading. Also, she COMPLAINS about student participation, but has no idea on how to correct for it (call by name). Don't go 2 office hours, because she grades you harder. NO clear grading scale.
Really enjoyed her selection of novels, and her enthusiasm makes the overall class more bearable. Participation really helps your grade. Not very many papers, but revision is offered on all except the final, which helps tremendously.
4.5 stars, Cross was a good professor. Class was interesting (IMO unusual for English), and she definitely knew the material well. A large portion of the grade came from essays, which were far more difficult than anything I previously encountered. Some of her feedback was unclear, thus 4 not 5 stars. That said, I would take a class with her again.
Professor Cross was different to say the least. If you don't like hearing your professor say the f-word at least once per class, pick a different professor. She takes her job seriously and seeks to make her students think for themselves. She is smart and knowledgeable about what she's teaching. She doesn't force her beliefs on you and respects you.
Mrs. Cross does not give bull crap work which is wonderful. She does not waste your time by rambling on and on... She tells you what you need to know and let's you go about your day. She allows revisions on everything, but the final paper which is so helpful.
Super cool, she grades accurately so you need to submit good work to get a good grade but she does allow corrections on all of the papers other than the final which is a huge opportunity to regain points.
Worst teacher Ive ever had. I have a straight 4.0 GPA, and Im an engineer. I had to withdraw from her class though, because she wouldnt let any of us get higher than a B. She said that if we followed her rubric exactly, that would earn us a solid C. Thats how she treated English 103, because we were supposed to be advanced students. So bad.
She always acts rudely towards students and cusses in her class way too constantly in an attempt to try and be funny. It doesn't seem like she's enthusiastic about her subject and her grading is really tough and honestly doesn't even make sense sometimes.
I actually really loved my time with Professor Cross. She was enigmatic and caring, and genuinely wanted to get her students engaged in class discussion. We had about 3 essays for our class and she was always willing to give great feedback, and definitely graded fairly. My only complaint is that there were very few grades in the class overall.
Her lectures are the stuff of legends. Talks about everything from edgar allen poe to the academic life in the ivory tower. You can pretty much write about anything as long as you can find enough material on it.
her class was my favorite this semester! if you actually talk and joke around she will join you and the class becomes one you look forward to going to! she is very supportive and will give you great feedback on writing and also let you revise your essay if you turn it in on time. would definitely take her again if I had the chance
Ms. Cross was a great English teacher, and I feel like I've learned a lot from her class. There is a good amount of reading, but the assignments aren't hard and the essays are revisable. If you work hard enough, you'll get an A.
Shes a really awesome person and she really cares about her students. If you need a mental health break she will gladly give you one. She also tells jokes that I thought were funny but I cant speak for anyone else. There are a lot of papers that you have to write and the grading criteria is rough and not always clear. Other than that I recommend!
Professor Cross is super understanding and you can tell she truly cares about her students. Class is mostly discussion based and she spends a LOT of time going over rubrics for papers. Honestly you could get through the class without reading any of the books. She is a tough grader on essays, so dont expect to get an easy A
She grades tough but she explains the material well and she provides A TON of feedback. You can pass this class by fulfilling the basic requirements in the papers but you will have to write papers well in order to get grades in the mid to high 90s. I don't enjoy writing but I enjoyed this class due to her jokes and the relaxed environment.
If English is your strong suit, this is an easy class. The class I took was discussion-based, and the class discussions were always fun. She offers edits/redos on some essays, which is nice because you get to go back through her comments and edit accordingly. Lots of readings, primarily a writing-based class.
Great professor, class was always engaging and interesting; in terms of the assigned papers, you're definitely going to need to put good work into it but she allows opportunities for edits and gives good feedback.
big thing is that every class is a lecture basically and theyre not like, stuff you need to take notes on so it feels like you just kinda have to sit there and listen for an hour and 20 min which is,, not ideal for me.
Easy if you already know how to write a basic college paper. Discussions could have easily become political, but she was able to keep it pretty neutral. I did not read any of the books and only read summaries of them. Never spoke up during the class and did well. I barely got a B due to the final but that had nothing to do with her grading.
She did an amazing job of leading discussions and would step in when things would go too far in one direction. Her policy with papers was that if you submitted it on time, you would get a week after she graded it (with feedback) to make edits and resubmit for a higher grade. Also very mental health conscious and accessible outside of class!
Hilarious woman that only wanted to see her students succeed. She cared for us and was always reachable no matter what. Her grading criteria were clear and concise. As long as you did what you were supposed to on the instructions, she gave great feedback, and you received a fair grade. We always had the chance to revise for a better grade, too.
A professor who truly cares about the students and their success. Will always make time to help any student.
One of the best professors I have ever met. Always smiling and giggling with us. Is always there for the students if they need help. If you put forth effort she will not let you fail. Feels like a second mom. Sweetest professor ever! I would recommend her to everyone. I would take her class thousand times again. Very much enjoyed this class.
Dr. Cross is the best, hands down. Her knowledge and passion are evident every day in her class. Show up do what she says and listen to her critiques and you will survive the essay writing I promise you.
I was very disappointed with Dr. Cross' class. She uses excessively vulgar and explicit speech. She chooses very inappropriate course content, including explicit pornographic material (i.e. Zombie by Oates). She is a brilliant woman and articulates herself very well, but I would be very wary of taking her for a literature class.
Dr. Cross is one of the best English/Literature teachers I have ever had. She selects a topic for the semester and allows you to engage with the main topic in any way you like for the 3 papers that she gave us. You can take the original topic and work with it however you want to as long as there is some tread that connects it to the original idea.
Great laid-back professor. Just show up to lectures and do your assignments. She goes into deep detail when grading and explain things to you which is helpful in a writing class. I have noticed great improvement in my writing after taking her class.
Really great professor. She gave you the option to revise your essays which is so helpful considering they're a large part of your grade. I also enjoyed the texts we had to read and I'd really recommend actually reading everything she assigns, as you will have more fun in the lectures and it will be easier for you to write your papers.
While I loved having Mrs. Cross and she was very open after class, it was unfortunate to only have 6 assignments (5 essays, 1 participation). I highly recommend taking her if you don't mind risk and not a lot of work.
Very good professor, only thing is there are only a few assignments to be very very careful to remember to do them. Papers are very heavily weighted but there are many opportunities to improve your grade on them. I almost wish I was getting a writing/english degree so I could take this professor again.
Actually one of my favourite professors. As long as you do your work you'll be rewarded with kindness. She understands if you have disabilities and will do her best to accomodate. She is how every teacher should be. One of the only classes I can say I learned everything I needed to from.
There aren't many assignments, but if you turn in your work on time, the instructor will provide feedback and give you the option to revise your essay. The reading covers diverse topics, including racism, sexism, and inequality, with some required readings being graphic novels. Do the reading, show up to class, and you'll do well.
Really great professor. As a STEM major I was worried about having to take an English class, much less an honors English class. Cross was funny, engaging and challenged me to push my ideas and writing to the next level. She definitely made me into a better writer and helped me enjoy a class that I was dreading to take.
I loved Professor Cross! I only made a B in her class because I struggled with time management that semester but her class isn't hard as long as you participate in class and read her grading rubrics carefully. She curses and is very blunt but that made me like her more. She is very easy to reach and often is lenient with grading.
My new favorite professor of all time. I absolutely loved the class and it denied my expectations, leading to me wanting to learn more about each situation. Professor Cross is respectful, encouraging, straight-forward, and aims to expands students' views. She picked great works to cover in class and I really had fun. Very tough grader, but 10/10
Good teacher. Knows her stuff and will help you if you ask. The work isn't hard but the class is tedious, its obvious she didn't choose the course material. Can be a tough grader and nitpick but also gives good feedback so you can learn. Most of the points are from a large group project so choose wisely.
Extremely tough grader. She will take off for the smallest thing, so you have to figure out her patterns because there is no clear rubric on what she will deduct points for—opinionated grading, which I hate.
Gives you rubric/requirements but only gives a C if requirements are met--you have to read her mind for a A/B. Lots of reading and class discussions. Obviously lots of papers and writing assignments but gives very helpful feedback and lots of revision opportunities!
This class was taught amazingly.
AMAZING teacher. Loved taking her and she's a great lecturer. Updates canvas often, very few assignments. She is kinda a harsh grader though. She has very high standards, but if you listen to what she says during class you'll do fine!
