She picks on people in the class and is very stuck in her ways.

great prof
I can hardly wait to take more classes with her next year
thorough, but in the end it will pay off.
she is very kind to everyone
Funny and always available for help!!
best prof at acadia. really funny.
Michelle Phiffer look alike
Best prof. at Acadia. Such an overall awesome person.
My favorite prof of all time, much sexier than Michelle whats her name.
Super Duper
Great course. Heather makes me laugh, and doesn't throw stuff at me. - Pinecone
Never have I met someone so eager to help her students!
I actually don't WANT to chat on my laptop in her class!
very easygoing..gives students a break....

I have seen her make students cry in class...
Best prof at Acadia by FAR. Takes us on field trips to places that are actually interesting, and she has an active interest in the welfare of a lot of distraught people and people who need help. Keep up the good work Heather!
Awesome prof :)
I wish she would quit.
Great prof. Hot too!
Great prof who really knows her stuff...but plays favourites with her students. Was good about giving second chances.
She was great. She was organized and there were no surprises in the course. She made things interesting and she was forgiving. If you have to pick a soci teacher, pick her!!!

She's so lovely. She's so smart. What's not to like?
she thinks she is always right and if in your paper you didnt agree with what she says then you have failed even if you have proven your points. she is always right and if you dont agree you are wrong.
Plain and simple she is the best. She never makes her lectures lengthy, is fun & relates well to students, laid back. Big fan of bonus points on m/c tests, a fair marker. She picks her faves tho so make sure you're one of them!!
wow, Extremely intelligent and muscular. There’s no messing around with her. Incredible professor. She’s not easy, but that’s good because university is supposed to be challenging??? way easier then banana bread.
Great prof. She is strict on essays and laptop use but is fair, nice and she makes her courses interesting
Incredible!!And has good reason to be rated well on 'hotness'!!! ;-)
Right on! Dr. K is great.
Absolutely fantastic, she is full of brains and beauty; I always look forward to her classes. Thanks Dr. Kitchin :)
Interesting, helpful, tough. Very opinionated, and personal - this is both good and bad.
Amazing prof. Always well prepared and knows her stuff.
She is the Best Prof Ever!! Make sure you source your work :)
not a good prof - picks favorites and is not interested in helping students at all. i love the topics she teaches but i steer clear of them just so i don't have to have this prof again
Boo hoo.
Very good looking and hot

Dr Kitchin rocks!! fun class and she is always prepared. Knows her stuff.
Lifesaver!!!!

Very good prof. Wish she taught more courses.
She picks favorites (guys) and assigns radom bonus points for no reason. She tries to act like a student not a prof.

Group work- 'nuff said?
retire!
challenging, but rewarding.
knowledgeable Proff...but a perfectionist....very hard to please...
Dr. Kitchin is without doubt one of the best professors I have ever had and is an excellent guide within the realm of sociology. Any student who has the opportunity to have Dr. Kitchin will cherish their time in her class and her teaching ability.

One of the best at Acadia.
This was one of the worst profs i have had in my time at university. It is a shame because the subject is interesting and important- but- we need someone else to be teaching it--- yikes!
The strike has caused an interruption in classes, and this is one prof that I miss having classes with. Hope we are back soon.

What a wonderful prof!!! I think that not only are her classes interesting, but that her delivery of course materials is almost appropriate for university level students.

I LOVE YOU HEATHER AND I WILL MISS YOU!!! Dr. Kitchin is AWESOME.
nothing
One of the Best Profs EVER!!! Interesting and fun. If you take intro take her for sure! You will thank me for it.
She is great if you are a girl and want to learn how oppressed women are, and want womens rights forced down your throat, nothing worse then a feminist
She is the reason I am no longer taking any sociology courses...

Should be known as Dr. Evil.
A very well rounded prof..she always teaches very interesting material. She has a tendency of being quite critical and a hardmarker however it makes you really try hard to get the grade. She is an excellent person if you try hard to get through and do the work you can get a good grade

Rips into you if you do not share her opinion. Not very friendly or approachable.
worst class I've taken yet
She is difficult b/c she has an attitude problem & is rude & a little heartless on the issues she teaches about. She is very opinionated & don't bother sharing your own thoughts b/c you will be wrong. The subject is interesting, but she needs to relax a bit & lighten up. She also tell you how you should grade her at the end of the term, prettysad
BADDDDDDDDDDDD TEACHER... dont take her... makes you feel like everything you have to say is wrong and she judges you before she even knows you.
Very opinionated but found very approachable. Go see her during her office hours and she will like you.
The course material is very interesting but Kitchin is the most stubborn, unapproachable, judgemental and critical prof I have ever had. She is never open to student opinions and has concept of empath, AND really takes favorites. Her classes aren't to difficult but I wouldn't consider taking another one because she is an insufferable human being.

One of only Two profs i had at acadia that i definitely would not ever take again. She was the worst prof i have ever had and probably the worst person I have ever met.
For a sociology professor she really needs to learn some social skills. She hates men and they hate her.
She is the reason I switched to Sociology. This prof rocks!
Heather is a very picky marker! You have to do EXCATLY what she says or you wont get a good grade!! Go to her office and see her and take instructions well and she will love you!! She is overall a very good prof Even though she challenges you it is for your own benifit and it really helps! Take this prof if you actually wanna learn :) over all grea
Great Prof, Hands on material really helps youo grasp information better. Shes really not that hard if you do work!! If I see a class with her I will for sure take it again!!! She Challenged me and I learnt what I needed to because of it!! Thanks Prof Kitchin!!
She is over opinionated, and rude. She shoots down the oppinions of others, and is not open to any new ideas. I wouldnt take another one of her classes again.
Amazing course material, great delivery of course material, but HOLY COW does her bitter personality take over those positives. I would not take a course with her again.
Dr. Kitchin has some of the least clear expectations I've ever encountered in my life! She would sometimes change her mind about an assignment AFTER the class had passed it in. Extremely difficult teacher to follow. Very hard marker, not very fair. Sometimes calls students out in class. Avoid this professor if you can.
Kitchin is quite possibly the hardest prof you may ever encounter in all of you university experience...but when you have completed the course you will feel like you earned your mark and worked extremly hard. She is unique and stern but certainly worth all the effort! : )
She is the most biased, hypocritical, mean spirited, bitter old woman you will ever meet. She insults her students, and if you don't agree with her opinions than you may as well drop the class. She doesn't even make sense. She once said that she wouldn't accept my opinion because I didn't have a PhD. If you have the choice, don't take her class.
great prof! always look forward to class. cant wait to take more classes with her.
She keeps the class lively. Wonders off on unrelated topics but they are very interesting. Midterms short and easy but the questions are hard to predict. She isn't for everybody, but if you like her sense of humour the class is awesome. You have two presentations over the year and you have midterms and exams.
I actually really enjoy class with Heather. Although sometimes, she preaches her own opinion, she does make me think, and she brings a variety of social issues to light. She def knows what she's talking about. Her sense of humour is not for everyone, but I enjoy it. It's easy to stay involved in her class, and the group discussions are engaging.
I can not stand this prof. She is rude and condescending to everyone. There's no point in speaking in class, because no matter what you say you will be wrong. She often purposely embarrasses people in front of others. I would not take another course with her.
Heather Kitchin is one of the most unique professors I have ever encountered. Although I heard many bad things about her before I ended up really liking her. She is a great sense of humour, a great sense of style and she really seems to enjoy what she is teaching. She is a fair marker.
Probably one of the best that Acadia has to offer. Earn your grade, as it should be, and a real kick-ass shoes wordrobe. Can't wait to take another course with her.
Kitchin is very knowledgeable about what she's teaching. Her lectures correspond with the assigned readings. The hands on learning approach for research was very useful, and I now feel prepared to do my own research. You have to go to class. Her sense of humour is entertaining. Great shoes! Take this course if you aren't scared of a challenge.
Awful teacher. Her lectures have nothing to do with the material and good luck talking in class. She has nothing to do with most of the work done in class (all is prepared and marked by TA). Apparently she's better in her Upper Year courses, but in this Intro it is obvious that she doesn't care.
Interesting, unique, great style. Try, though, not to russ-tle while playing on the computer.
Terrible attitude and ruthless feminist. Read the book for the tests and pay attention to pointless things as they will show up on the exam.
Was afraid at fist, but discovered that you get graded on effort... which for me was a plus. Not sure why she has such a harsh reputation.... you get what you give.
She is the worst teacher I have had in my life. Rude, trashy, judgemental and unprofessional. I dont know why Acadia hired her. DONT take her class. There is a reason she has so many negative comments on this site
One of the best I have ever come across. Truly inspiring. As someone says below, you get what you give.
you get what you give was NOT true with this prof. i gave a lot. got 90's in tests and had one easy project and she marked it ridiculously hard with no explanation. not a fan.
Didn't seem to care at all about the class. Clear she didn't enjoy being there. Made students feel bad about themselves.
Essentially the most useless prof at Acadia. If you don't agree with her opinion you'll lose points. Avoid this class and avoid this prof.
She is awful.. not only does she tear anything you say apart — but she makes it nearly impossible to do well.. the absolute most irrelevant things go on the tests, her projects are graded ridiculously with no guidance on what to do, and her lectures are just nuts.. avoid her!
Dr. Kitchen became Dr, shortly before I gave my pivotal lecture on the "roots" of addiction, she was moved to tears during this harrowing saga, I think of course it was the music I had opted to play, while lecturing. We were only a few minutes short of an alter call, and I'm sure the dear prof would have come. God bless ya!
Stuck in the 1970's when she was in her mid 20's pushing feminism, save the whales, etc. Still acts like it. Says she's fat in her dress when one of the topics was about realities of the "ideal image". Has one project worth 20% which she CLEARLY only marks with the bell curve in mind. Had 89 in course then got 64 on it. Friend had 67, got 86. Avoid
low interest, low quality
A good prof, can be a bit dry at times but shes always willing to help and engages in good discussions in class.
This prof is probably the worst I've had at Acadia so far in my 3rd year. She is incredibly insensitive towards family matters and basically anything surrounding her students. She has a dry sense of humour, often rudely sarcastic. Speaks down to students. No grading rubric for ANY assignments, and no review for tests (just have to know it all)
DON'T SKIP HER CLASS! She puts questions on her tests and midterms based on things she has said in class. Also, you have to read the book and take notes very carefully. The entire final is questions out of the book. She has a very dry sense of humour and I think she hates her job. All in all not a bad class or prof. Just be careful.
Lots of textbook reading. She puts a lot of statistics in tests. She has noticed attendance has been dropping and has started putting questions on midterms from stuff we learn in-class. Dr. Dahringer has a very dry sense of humour which I personally find hilarious.
She told us on the first week of classes that she didn't even want to be in the class to teach this class and she is a tough marker.
I took intro to soc with Dr Dahringer. She is terrible. How is she even a prof when all she does is basically read the book back to us. Nothing we learn in class is on any of the tests or finals. It's all stats from who knows where. If you want to learn about different sociological concepts, avoid this prof. If you like stats, she's your girl.
Some may criticize Dr. Dahringer's views or personal opinions, but that shouldn't be what's important. She is competent, knows her subject well and has a real knack for teaching. Participation is very important and you NEED to do the readings or you'll look like an idiot in class. She has a quirky sense of humor, but I think it added to the class.
On the 1st day of class said she didn't want to be there, but her enthusiasm picked up after a couple of weeks and classes got better. Tests every 2 weeks (no final) which is easy because the material is fresh. Grades a bit harsh on group projects. She's friendly and funny and prompt on grading. Be sure to take good notes, don't just copy slides!
intro to socio grade is completely based on multiple choice tests, no exam. All she does is read through the textbook, very boring. and she's rude.
She is kinda out there as a person but the information is interesting. She tends to put stuff on tests that she talks about in class and takes random attendance. no exam tho!!!
Worst prof ive had in four years. Hard marker Very rude to students talks down to students way too much readings, some writen by her.
Heather is an excellent prof, I don't understand the negative feedback she's received. This course was interesting, the lectures were engaging and she was extremely open to visits in her office outside of class to help with assignments. She expects her students to actually read, and marks poorly if they do not (She can tell).
Doesn't add anything in class lectures just goes from the book, it almost seems why she is so adamant on you having to do readings is because the book is teaching you. All her classes are the same structure. Somehow always finds a way to let the class know that "rape" is not a thing in Canada, even when it has nothing to do with anything.
One of the most rude profs I have ever had. Talks down to students and thinks her beliefs (especially with anything science-related) trump facts. Students have dropped her class because of how rude she was to them. Honestly don't know how she is even a professor. Lacks professionalism and common sense.
Heather is def one of my fav profs, im one of those students where i need a bond with my professor and Heather really is great for that. shes not too uptight like a lot of profs where youre too scared to even say anything to them, she really allows for you to joke around and have fun. her course is basically if you try youll do good, PARTICIPATION!
I was in Heather's class for the first week of fall semester 2019 taking Intro to Soc as it is a subject I enjoyed in high school. By the end of the first class I was baffled at how rude she is to every single student. I attended two more classes before dropping the course solely because of her. I can't believe how she has managed to keep her job.
I strongly dislike Dahringer. She is a tough grader. I study my ass off for this class, yet it is the class where I am getting the worst grade. She has caused me to have several panic attacks due to how hard her tests are no matter how long /hard I study. One of the rudest people I've ever met, talks down to the students in my class frequently.
All I have to say is that she is one of the rudest professors I have experienced at Acadia. She belittles her students and a lot of people are afraid to talk in her class. Information was interesting and multiple choice test, no exam. No matter how interesting the course material is I would never take another class with her again. Worst prof ever.
Will not take a class with this prof again. Heather is rude and talks down to her students. She does not give instruction on how to do assignments and gives test/quiz outlines the day before writing. Heather teaches interesting classes, but it is definitely not worth the challenge. She lacks professionalism and does not care for her students.
Heather openly berates and belittles her students. The lectures are discussion based and lighthearted, and Heather was open to extensions and days off, but she was inaccessible outside of class, entitled, and rude. Also- half of her grading schemes are group work based. I won't be taking her classes again.
I had heather as a prof for my intro soci class until she openly used the n word during a lecture about race. After this lecture she was reported, and a new prof took over the class. Very group project and test heavy. Test questions are ambiguous, and she was a tough grader. I will not ever register for another course with her again.
For a sociology professor, she knows nothing about society.
