Very good professor who cares about having her students get better at English. Lots of seminars and discussions and the prompts for essays are very open. I would take her class again.

Great teacher, I always enjoyed going to class. It was a little difficult for me in 1C, you have to put time into writing and editing your papers. I do recommend this teacher.

I am currently taking English A with Professor Donovan (which she hates being called, lol..so call her Heather). She is very inspiring in the way she encourages you to do your best and very helpful. I wrote what I thought and my classmates thought was a very well written paper and she challenged me to do even better! Highly recommend her!

Heather is the best English teacher i have ever had!!!! Very clear, always willing to help, very helpful, and offers lots of encouragement. Very little homework, bulk of grade is at end of semester but she helps you so much with writing and makes it fun. Dont take her if you dislike group work.

I would recommend her to anyone taking english 1A. I almost did not take this class because I am so afraid of speaking in front of a class, and she told us the first day that if we didn't like it we should drop. I'm so glad I didn't. There was lots of open class discussion and we did have to give a group lecture one day. It was a great experience!

I am not at all interested in English. Mrs. Donovan made essay writing and English all together an enjoyable experience. Don't get me wrong, you will not get a good grade if you don't do the work. She is clear with what she wants from day 1 and is there to help you every step of the way. She also gets feedback to make her course better at end!

AMAZING!!! I absolutely hate writing with a passion and this class totally turned that around for me. She wants you to learn to be a better writer and goes out of her way to make sure you achieve that. Every little HW, 6 essays required, walks you through step by set what to do and what she is looking for.

She's really nice. Always tries to help out all of her students when she can. Checks her emails and will tell you when she's available. However, DO NOT MISS ANY DAYS or HOMEWORK. It really slams your grade if you miss more than two things. But as long as you attend and do the work... She's definately a really cool teacher!

Lady Donovan really takes the student from just putting words on paper to writing in a way that has a purpose at the same time finding your literary voice. If you aim to become a quality writer then take this professor.

Best most respectful teacher ever! Very understanding and does everything she can to help you succeed. She is very clear on what she expects from you. Loves her students :) always let her know ahead of time if you are going to be absent she will guide you through what you will miss. I am taking her again next semester!

It's hard to find people, let alone professors who are as passionate as Heather Donovan. It was truly a great pleasure to go to class every morning and engage in group discussions and interesting lectures. The quizzes are directly from the readings, so stay caught up. She really wants participation in class and thoughtful essays. Two thumbs up!

Tough grader. It seemed the only essays to receive an A were written by Stephen King himself. Makes you participate in class and groups, A LOT.

Took this class over summer and really enjoyed it. Lots of class discusssions which I really liked, they gave me a better understanding of the texts we were reading. Heather is a great teacher and very approachable. She grades her essays tough, but lets you revise them for a better grade. All around great class! Loved having Heather as a teacher.

Loved Heather! Took this class over the Summer. She engages the entire class in discussion, giving opportunity for everyone to give feedback on their story interpretation. Show up to class, read the assigned reading, and participate. You will do fine. I would definitely recommend taking her class!

I have always hated English until I took her for 1A. I look every semester for her name for another English class just so I can take her again. She's helpful, doesn't trick you with grading, and involves the entire class in discussions that are actually interesting. She gives you little articles to read and you write 4 essays. I recommend her 100%!

Heather is very excited about teaching and she really wants to help students learn and succeed. She is very generous with help if and when needed. She has reasonable expectations of her students and class attendance and participation is very important. If attendance is an issue, she will do her best to work with you. She is also very organized.

Liked the professor, just not her teaching style. As someone who battles social anxiety and works best independently rather than in groups or pairs (which you constantly do in this class), I can honestly say that I found her class to be very overwhelming and difficult. If you're anything like me, I'd advise you to proceed with caution.

Heather is inspirational! Read poems, 1 play, 1 novel, and have write up/essays on each. She is kind, and funny, cut me slack when I had a personal issue and was struggling. It's the only class I've ever taken where not a single person dropped - and I think that says a lot. Great person, great teacher! Definitely take her class! She's awesome!

Professor Donovan is by far my favorite professor at Sierra College. She is the nicest and most caring teacher at Sierra. She really does care about her students. All of her required readings were extremely interesting and were easy to write about. I always loved going to her class, because she always made it interesting and fun.

Doing well in her class is easy, but I felt as if I learned much more than English from her.

Heather is a wonderful instructor who values student work. I took Drama as Lit with her and nearly the entire class was guided discussion between students, not that Heather wasn't fundamental in instruction, but she was extremely skilled in getting students to really share their opinions of the text. Lent me like a million books. She's the best!

I can safely say that Professor Donovan is one of the best professors at Sierra College. You get what you put into her class, and she supports all her students based on their individual goals and needs. She is super understanding, caring, and attentive with her students. She's very responsive to emails and her Canvas page is neatly organized.

Professor Donovan was such a sweet woman. I loved having her as a teacher and you can tell she is passionate about what she does. She really wants you to succeed and will work with you to ensure you can. The class itself is fine, there's four essays total and she sets you up to basically get an A. Lots of material provided to help.

Heather was such an amazing professor. She considers herself a social constructivist meaning she believes the growth in learning occurs in the conversations we have between peers and with her. This is true way to learn, not just in her subject but as a person as well.

You can tell that she is very passionate about the subject, even when the subject is prepositional phrases! She is also SUPER accessible outside of class.

Please, please, PLEASE take one of Heather's classes! She's honestly one of the best professors I've ever had. She is understanding when it comes to missing/late assignments, and truly only wants your success in her class. Yes, you will have to read, but this is an ENGLISH class, plus it's really not that much. She gives clear expectations of you.

Prof. Donovan is a great English teacher who gives minimal lectures and allows for lots of in-class discussions. If you show up, participate, and show effort you will do well in her class. Assignment instructions can be a bit ambiguous, but she is quick to answer any questions either through email or in class. Thoughtful and accommodating teacher.

Professor Donovan is the sweetest professor I've met at Sierra. However, if you are not a fan of Anglo-Saxon literature or not an English major, this class will be a hefty challenge. Pros: Amazing professor, forgiving, understanding, talkative, creative. Cons: The class may be boring, get ready to read a lot, and could be picky (but helpful).

Easily the most kindest professor I've had, she's always understanding and has always accommodated for me. The class is also easy as well, though I would put in a fair amount of effort as some of the assignments can take some time (essay, class schedule, group presentation - to name a few). As long as you put in the work, an A is easy to get.

Greatest English professor ever!! Heather is incredibly kind and very clear on what she expects. She was fast to respond to emails and left very thorough comments on essays. You can revise the two required essays, and she is always there to help. Great lectures! If you take the accelerated version, get ready to read, but the books are great!

Prof. Donovan is awesome! Very kind and understanding, I would definitely recommend her. The workload is manageable, mostly discussion boards. There are larger assignments every few weeks at the end of a book section, but as long as you do the readings they're easy. The readings themselves are strenuous but get better as the semester progresses.

Professor Donovan provides plenty of resources to help her students become better writers. The topics of our essays are always useful and engaging as well. Each week, there is either a quiz or essay due. At times the class feels a bit much, but it's organized in a way to keep students on track. She provides great feedback on assignments.

She is the best English professor I ever taken! I took her in 8 weeks class. All of her modules are well-organized and straightforward. There are only a few short quizzes, essays, and peer reviews. You can revise the essay by the end of the week. I recommend everyone to take her!

Heather is an AMAZING professor here at Sierra College whose biggest concern is helping her students. She only has a total of 3 essays and the final is just a portfolio of all your work and progress. Essays are revisable. Overall if you show up, submit your work, and participate in discussions you can pass with an easy B.

Heather Donovan was a very attentive professor. I took a condensed 8-week course and it was A LOT of reading, however, they were easy reads. Time management is key, but she grades very fair and participation means a lot. Very interactive professor, and she genuinely enjoys her work, which makes the class enjoyable. Great Professor.

If you hope to become a better writer, take this class! She's incredibly passionate and cares about student success above all. Writing wasn't too heavy, essays were fairly easy and actually really helped me grow. Her in person class is a lot of student interaction and workshopping, all very helpful. Loved this class. Lots of material to help your writing process, chances to edit for a better grade, portfolio class, and super helpful workshops. Big on teaching WITH you instead of AT you (not lecture-heavy), and she's so kind, and understanding, and a conversation with her leaves you inspired. She will do everything she can to help you!

Easily one of the best English teachers I've had. I had to retake 1A and her class is easy with a reasonable amount of work (2 essays, 7 page research paper, 2 self-reflective midterm/final papers). Lectures are engaging and she had me actually enjoy academic writing even though it's graded. Always happy to help and passionate about what she does.

Cannot recommend this course/professor enough! Absolutely incredible readings, and the assignments aren't too time consuming. I met with her multiple times throughout the semster, and she is incredibly kind and loved discussing the plays we read. You get to watch and read a multitude of outstanding works in this class. I highly recommend!
