Excellent teacher! take her class if you want to get a good grade while actually retaining the math you learn!!

She is a hottie!!! Plus, she knows her stuff, and helps if you ask. good teacher, she relates to students
She is hot!!
what i can say about her has already been said by the other reviewers. Her class is awesome!! highly recommended!
She is a very good teacher. She makes things clear and answers all questions that are asked. If you don't understand math and need better explanation, take her class!
Shes amazing!! i loved her calss
Excellent Instructor
She's the best prof I've ever had!
I took Heather's online trig class and she is the best at explaining concepts via email. Not even 12 hours goes by before she gets back to you. Awesome prof!
Good Instructor!
Very hard Calculus teacher. Good at explaining and helpful if you don't understand...but watch out for her tests. I am good at math and don't usually mind math classes, but needed a break after her class.
I have never understood the "why" behind math until I took Heather's trig class. Everything totally makes sense to me now. She's the best prof I've ever had!
Although I failed her class, she is the best instructor I have had while attending RRCC. I don't think I was ready for Algebra at the time I took the class, so it was my fault for failing. I wished all the instructors there were as caring as Heather is. she is also a very beautiful woman! :)
Good teacher, great at explaining, but expects you to know your stuff. If you don't put in the effort to do the practice problems, like I didn't, then you will flounder.
Heather is a great teacher. She is so clear and makes everything easy to understand. I really miss her this semester and wish I could have taken her again!
Heather is one of the nicest people and clearest professors ever; but she is honestly the hardest grader I have ever taken a class from. I would call her a "red pen professor" because she is not merciful if a tiny mistake is made. I am sad to say this because she is really nice and cares about students, she's just a super hard grader
Heather is great! The way she grades may seem harsh, but it really got me to pay attention to the details, which is what you need for calc! I'm immensely grateful that I had her as a teacher. I've learned far more in this class than I would've with an easier one.
Heather was awesome in administering the online class. She was encouraging, answered questions promptly, and provided good structure for completing the class. She appears to really care about her profession and her students. The class was very challenging, but there were no surprises and the expectations were clear.
Heather Duncan is an excellent math teacher! Her tests and grading are tough but she explains and gives practice on everything she'll put on the test - no surprises. She's very personable (learns all the students' names right away :D) and great at one-on-one work during class assignments. I would recommend her highly; this class prepared me well.
Heather was a good teacher, but her exams were very tough. The material itself was more challenging than her reviews. That being said, the material was not the hardest part of the exams. If your notation was off by the slightest your grade immediately started going downhill on tests. Be prepared for a challenge in her class.
Best math teacher!! Just pay attention in class and you will pass.
Although she was a tough grader, the tests weren't that hard as long as you pay attention in class.
All I can say is take Heather for any and all math classes you have to take. I took her for Trig and Calc 1 & 2. She has the most unbelievable lecture notes ever. You will be more prepared for the next class than you could ever imagine.
Heather is one of the hardest yet most inspiring professors I've ever had. Calculus was a constant struggle for me but when I took her class, it finally made sense. As long as you put in the effort and seek the extra help, she'll make sure you get it down and ready for calc 2!
Heather is a difficult instructor. She gave barely any notes and they didn't even help with the homework problems that were assigned. The questions on the homework were different than the ones on the quizzes in that they were worded completely different to the point where you cant even understand what you have to do. Definitely don't recommend.
I have never had a teacher/educator grade so hard in my entire life. She pre-types notes that are strictly fill in the blank- so unless you learn that way GOODLUCK i even tried taking my own handwritten notes but couldn't keep up since she was going off her fill-in-the blank. If you don't understand something, it was up to you to catch up. HORRIBLE
Failed my first college class with Heather. She's not bad at teaching but the way she weighs all of the homework and tests is whack. Honestly, your exams should not make up 80% of your total grade. I'm very upset that i put in the time and will have to take this class again.
Heather is super sweet and enthusiastic, and definitely knows her stuff. She's always willing to help, but I found that she wasn't in her office hours very many times when I checked. Teaches very clearly, gives really good notes, would definitely recommend her to anyone taking any of the math classes she teaches.
Grading is vague. Repetitive grading that is confusing. It seemed clear that that instructor didn't have a clear grasp of the Online Math Platform as well as she should to give directions on how to use it. Unfortunately made things difficult for her to grade and then passed the confusion on to the students.
I took Heather's Trig and Calc 1 classes (I have no idea what the basis is of any negative reviews she's gotten). Yeah she makes you pay attention to notation (tough grader) but when I started Calc 2 I seriously knew more than any other student in that class (except for anyone who also took her for Calc 1). And her lecture notes are def the best!
Heather is a great Instructor She knows her stuff when it comes to math.I love the way she teaches because she teaches in a way that is easily understood. However, her test were the hardest I have ever taken in math. Also, she hands out too many assignments on top of homework. Be prepared to work you butt off to EARN your grade.
My advice: If you don't like her teaching style, don't wallow, find what works for you and put in the work. Don't stress if you're lost in class, as her lectures are myopic, just plan on filling in a lot of big-picture conceptual holes on your own. Great teacher if you do well under pressure/are self motivated, bad choice if you tend to slack.
Heather Is a great teacher. She knows the material very well and knows how to teach it. However, her exams are long and she doesn't give enough time to complete them. Her grading system is unfair and she is not willing to work with you or cut you any slack for trying. I would not recommend her if you have a weak background in math and geometry.
Heather is a great teacher with tons of enthusiasm. She finally got me to understood all these things in Calc 1 I never got. I was more prepared for Calc 3 than anyone who didn't take her for Calc 2. She uncovered a love for math I did't know I had.
She knows what she is talking about and expects you to work for it. She is very open about how and what she grades. Even what to focus on when studying for her test. She has a lot of quizzes, however, you can bring your homework and find the answer. If I can I will take another math class of her's again.
Heather is an amazing human being. I took Math for Liberal Arts online. Bad idea. Math is my WORST subject. But she gave me so many chances to pass and helped me more than ANY professor I have ever had. She set the class up so that it's a no brainer to pass the class. If I needed more math I would totally take Heather again.
Math is my worst subject and I was terrified to take this class online (and I had to take it during the summer). There's no way I would have passed if it wasn't for Heather. I will be forever grateful for her constant help and guidance. Hands down best math teacher I've ever had.
If you have to take an online math class, take it with Heather. Every time I emailed her she replied within hours even on the weekend. She even did a couple Zoom sessions with me when I didn't know how to do something. She says no late work but she had no problem giving me extra time on some stuff. Just ask and she is open to anything.
I took the accelerated trig/calc 1 class. Terrified going into it as online math has been a disaster for me in the past, plus it's 2 for 1. Heather tells you just what she expects though (big on notation), shares how certain topics will be vital in future classes, has excellent notes, great test review questions. Easy to pass if you put in the time
I took Trig, Calc 1 & 2 with Heather. She organizes and explains difficult concepts better than any other teacher. She creates a camaraderie in the class that has been the single biggest factor in my success (I met 2 of my best friends in her class). I have confidence and enjoyment in Calc that I do not see in those who did not have her class.
Heather is really tough on her students for sure! I was going into her college algebra class in my first semester at RRCC as a high school student and she really made me work for my A! We were all over prepared for the final exam though, so I guess it was a good thing! It was the most difficult class I took my whole 2 years at Red Rocks.
Heather makes you work for your grade. But I know way more trig than my friends who took other professors. She has a way of explaining things that no other math teacher has been able to do for me. I have already signed up for her calc 1. Best math teacher at RRCC.
Heather is good at lecturing, but she gives to much homework and her tests were super long and hard. She only cares about the final answer instead of the process to get the final answer. However she was very helpful during her office hours.
Best teacher ever! Heather even had a zoom meeting with me just to try and help me get through life. I am so excited to take calculus with her face to face!
Heather was always available on email. She responded really fast and was supportive throughout. She emailed examples of problems and processes which was extremely helpful in learning online. If I ever have to take another online class I will take it with her.
Heather is absolutely amazing at explaining content; she's one of the best lecturers I've had. You will come out of her class with a clear understanding of the material. Heather is a tough grader and she weighs her tests very heavily (tests made up over 70% the grade). But she provides great test reviews and tests are more than doable if you study.
Heather has become my all-time favorite prof. I have never felt such a sense of accomplishment after taking her class. She is brilliant yet knows how to make a hard subject very easy to understand.
I had a really bad trig professor and didn't learn anything. Heather taught an impromptu trig class after Calculus one day and I learned more from her in 30 min than in an entire semester of trig. I never thought I could learn and understand so much about Calculus. I wish I could take her for Calc 2.
Heather is an amazing teacher! She is fun and engaging during class and encourages participation. She always made room for questions and wants you to understand the material before she moves on. Utilize her office hours, and talk to her if you're confused. She is awesome, I would highly recommend taking a math class with her.
She does a great job selecting good homework problems. Everything is supported by her notes. She is excellent at presenting calculus in an easy to understand way. I am taking her for all the rest of my math classes.
Heather emailed us once or twice a week and included videos on the topics we were learning. It was so helpful. She was constantly reminding us of due dates so that we didn't miss anything. If I had to take another math class, I would definitely take hers.
Heather is the most organized teacher I've ever had. I always knew what was due. She sent emails at least 1 time/wk with reminders. She even emailed me personally to tell me what a good job I did on exams! The website was super easy to use. Heather was always willing to help if you needed it. Best online teacher I've ever had.
Although I didn't pass, Heather is the most inspirational and brilliant woman I know. I'm a minority female but she made me feel just as important as all the white males. She taught me more math than I ever thought I could know. She helped me grow personally and overcome barriers I have struggled with my whole life. She is an amazing human.
Heather is THE BEST math instructor at Red Rocks. The amount of work she puts into her classes is unmatched. I took her for trig and calc 1 & 2 and never thought I could learn and actually understand so much. She is my favorite instructor.
Its hard to rate a teacher when its an online class but Heather is outstanding. She kept in constant communication with reminders about due dates and how to do problems. She sent me personal emails saying what a good job I was doing and saying good job on my tests. I give her a five star out of five star for this educational experience.
I took trig and calculus with Heather and got A's in both. I will be forever grateful for the manner in which she conveyed all the information in both classes. She even had multiple students at once sitting around in her office giving us help on problems. I could not have succeeded without her. I also made life long friends in her class.
Heather is my favorite teacher at Red Rocks! I have taken her for three math classes and she is the best math teacher RRCC has to offer! She is involved, energetic, always happy, helpful, funny and creative!
Heather is so quick to respond to emails (every email I sent she answered within hours). She sends emails reminding you of what's due and video links to help learn the material. She wants to help in any way possible. I missed a test and she was so understanding and let me take it late. If you have to take an online class take it with Heather!
I knew Heather was the most amazing professor I've ever had but it became most evident when I got to Calc 2 at UCD. I am way more prepared than the other students in my class. She has amazing lectures and explains why stuff works in a way that you understand and remember. I am so sad I transferred because I couldn't take any more classes from her.
I took Cal 1 (Fall 2022) and I want everyone to know that Heather has all my respect for her dedication to her students. The way she articulates her lectures makes learning the material so smooth to learn. She explains in such clarity. Keep up with the material and put in effort and you'll do just fine.
I've never had such an effective teacher who prioritized actual learning of the material while also keeping stress at a minimum. Heather made Calc 2 an enjoyable course. In my opinion, no other instructor compares to her.
Heather has incredible organization skills and impeccable communication. She made calculus 2 as stress free as possible. Hands down the best professor I've ever had.
My favorite teacher! She is the most caring prof I have ever had. I was so scared to take this class and it was my easiest one and that is mostly due to Heather's notes and teaching. I owe her a whole lot.
Heather has been the single most wonderful and genuinely helpful of my entire academic career. She not only made calculus 2 easy but fun to learn as well. Heather always had an incredible upbeat attitude that would spread around the room. Her notes especially were easy to follow and created great examples for studying.
I had Heather for 3 classes. She is so amazing. She's a hard teacher, but she actually WANTS you to do well and she helps sooo much! I spent so much time in her office hours. She cares so much and is so nice. She doesn't rush you when you're struggling on a concept, she explains it as many times as you need, and in different ways, too. TAKE HER CLASS
The level of encouragement, communication and resources Heather gave us was leagues above any other math class I have taken. Her responses to emails and discussion questions were prompt & helpful. She sent reminders and useful emails weekly. Her notes on graded assignments of my mistakes were so helpful in studying. She is the best teacher at RRCC.
I loved everything about this class. Heather was incredibly organized, had quick, supportive and thorough communication. She is obviously dedicated to her students. I have always been terrified of math and her kindness and support made this class so much easier.
Has notes for you, and makes it incredibly easy to follow along. Decent amount of HW and from a textbook that has MANY online resources for you that walk you through the questions. I just redid hw/old tests/study guides that she provides to prep for tests. She does a good job teaching during lectures. Confident, funny, no bs type of person
Let's you use a calculator for all assignments and then forbids them on exams. You'll need a calculator made for elementary level education if she's going to let you use it. Overall her lack of interest in the subject and laziness is quite prevalent with how she unloads the work on you and then gives you unrealistic expectations to meet for exams.
Just Awful. Calculus 1.
Heather is so caring. She explains new concepts very well so they make sense. She is very willing to help if you don't understand something. She has frequent quizzes but they are short, open note, and questions directly from the homework. The homework itself is never graded. I highly recommend taking her class, she is wonderful!
Prof. Duncan explained every step in detail, demonstrating where the solutions originated and their real-world applications.
She always emailed us about due dates and gave examples on how to work out problems. She was super fast in responding to my questions. Best online teacher I've ever had. First time I've actually understood and enjoyed math. If you have to take this class, take it with Heather Duncan.
Heather set up a calendar that was very helpful in pacing myself. She was very understanding if I couldn't make a due date and reopened assignments for me. She sent me really nice emails when I did good on tests. Best online teacher I've ever had!
The best and most well prepared teacher I have ever had. I am blown away by the anount of effort Heather put into the class. She has funny math jokes that stick! She brought energy to every class. I never lost interest during a lecture. One of the nicest people I've ever met.
She is very clear about expectations and whats on tests. She gives lots of "tools" to solve problems. Test reviews are just like whats on the tests. If you show up to class and do the homework she makes it easy to get a good grade and understand what your doing. I would take every math class from Heather if I could.
From the comments of the gifted, I thought she was good. If you are not good in math, don't take classes with her. She is very hard, and her exams are very difficult. She makes simple reviews, and the exam is too hard.
Heather is fantastic! Her class notes are an excellent resource and the worksheets were great practice. I feel very prepared for Calc 1. I believe almost all math classes are easy if you just show up, pay attention, and do the homework! The tests are a huge portion of the grade in this class, and the practice tests are a great study tool.
I took her Calc II summer class (8-week course) which was difficult because of how fast paced it was while also being completely online. Heather provided lots of resources though including textbooks, videos, and hand-written notes to help prepare for each unit. Also a very nice grader on exams, giving out extra points where she can.
- Provides fill-it-out PDFs for notes. - HW isn't turned in, there are short HW quizzes. - Exams are tough but doable if you study. - She provides test reviews. Expect tests to be harder, though. - Not majorly based on the textbook. - Easily reachable outside of class and always friendly. Amazing teacher and a good introduction to college courses.
