Gives unannounced reading quizzes, wants lots of class participation
phun class, learn lots of stuff, hard exams, must read for pop uizzes, phun chic
extreme radical, not open to other opinions, pop quizzes, hard tests, clear
POP quizzes and yelling at you for not reading is all youll get out of her
pop quizzes all the time, yelled out for no reason, hard tests, attendance policy
too extreme & way too many pop quizzes. tests not bad but shes really pressed
if you don't like to read, don't take. lots of writing. political.
fun class, she's very interested in what she teaches, and helpful
Easy class if you study giude. Tests are based on lectures...many pop quizzes.
Really intense in a really good way. Cares deeply about soc. and really cares that you learn.
Heather is the BEST!!! Most Fun teacher at towson.
NO pop quizzes. But alot of writing. Interesting class, and disscussion. Just think for yourself and you will do fine! Thats what she wants you to do, THINK.
Great teacher! Fun, entertaining, interesting class. If you participate in class discussions your in for an easy B!
She is an amazing professor, young and fun, really cares what you have to say, and trust me you can say anything... likes to go over controversial issues, which is also fun... she expects you to read but you really get something out of the class.shes best

I thought that she was awful. She didn't explain things too well and she was not too interesting. She did allow for discussion though. Tests weren't too bad - she gave tons of pop quizzes though

She is a very cute out going teacher. She didnt give pop quizzes this semester. She had you hand in your notes and a journal. She wants you to think. Her class is a lot of discussion so she keeps you interested.
Heather Hax is one of the most interesting teachers at Towson. She's not afraid to speak her mind but she also listens to her students.

This was a great class. She's an awesome teacher. No papers but quite a bit of reading and other work, not too bad though. Tests aren't bad if you study. Take this class, you'll get a lot of of it.

heather hax is really great...take her, and you will learn a lot interesting things
Very nice, makes classes fun. takes attendance. ALOT of reading, HARD tests!
She is cool
The course material seems to be mostly common sense, but Heather facilitated alot of interesting discussions.
Very intelligent. She's kinda young, but knows her stuff very well. Ideas and concepts are a little hard to grasp sometimes, but she is ALWAYS willing to help you out and make it clearer. I'd recommend her. Make sure to participate in class!!
she's young, energetic and interesting. her tests are hard, not what you would expect. Just study and make sure you know the material discussed in class and you'll do fine.
swears at the class. flips out when people are late. her tantrums are a distraction. knows what she's talking about, but goes about teaching in it the wrong way. alot of reading
Easy, nice, energetic. Tries to get you to say what she wants, or to see it her opinion. But good class, very interesting topics
okay so if you don't want to write a 5 to 10 page paper every week and read a lot... don't take the class... however, she is a lovely person... hates bush and the war so if you like either than avoid talking in class like the plague... she's great though
When you first see her, you'd think she was a student, but this woman knows her stuff. She's funny and likes to have class based on discussion and not lecture. Chapter reviews are a lil annoying and long, but she's pretty easy and it's a good class.
Very cool. Class designed so you will learn the material and I did. Only class I actually remeber things from. Makes class interesting. Picky about lateness. Cares about students. Attendance policy. Very smart, knows her stuff.
gotta love her. she explains the material real well...chapter reviews are a pain, but very useful. speaks her opinion for everything. enjoyable class....never boring.
Class is pretty easy. mostly discussions in class. Participate alot so she knows you. Tests are kind of confusing.
AWESOME teacher! Shes real funny, and class is enjoyable... participate, show up to class,&chap reviews! Thats basically it chap reviews can be a pain, BUT you will read (which is necessary for test) and they are a NICE easy 100 points to cushion grade!
great teacher. friendly, funny, what most teachers should be. a lot of people complained about how hard the tests were, i didn't think so. very informative class for those who have never taken a sociology class before
Best teacher at Towson! Teaches in a matter inwhich you learn things and not waste time doing pointless work! Keeps your attention and has you looking forward to the next class! I would definetly recommend her- esp. since the final was extremely easy!
She explains things in ways that students can relate to. Interesting class conversations and mini-debates. I enjotyed the class a lot!
Very cool person. She is the best teacher I've ever had at this school. Readings are a cake-walk. She's super hot. She really makes you think about what's up with the world today. Take this class!
i have had heather for 3 classes now. i love the way she teaches and the class format. final is a take home~ she may be leaving after this semester though, i am not sure...
HORRIBLE TEACHER boring as hell
I don't know who said the class was boring. R u crazy?? She related to us as students and taught us things we could actually use. Great teacher too bad she is leaving.
The one person who said the class was horrible is obviously an affluent republican. Anyone with half a brian can pass this class. She keeps you on your toes with social issues and keeps things very exciting! THE BEST TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD.
Greatest teacher ever. She will teach you a lot. She totally inspired me. You will have to study but if you pay attention in class, you will be fine.
Hmm i dont kno who said she was the best teacher ever:( she was okay i kno a couple ppl who failed the class....has her own views and wants u 2 conform 2 what she believes....test are rather diffiult!
Hard class. Mostly discussions which can get a tad bit boring and she really pushes her beliefs. I don't really care for her teaching style. Study guides are crap. Tests are hard. Not too bad of a teacher but I wouldn't say she's the greatest.
I think she can be fun at times. i like how she has tats and doesnt dress like a regular professor. Class is pretty much lecture/discussions. There is an attendence policy. Her study guides dont really help. Her tests are hard tho! There's no BS'ing your way out of it. Its either you know it or not.
great teacher. really knows what she is talking about and if you go in with an open mind the class can be a really enlightening experience. tests are moderately difficult but there is very little work besides. gives good notes during lectures.
sounds like it would be an easy class, but theres definitely a lot of work...class can be interesting but she is a very tough grader...if you dont write how she wants you to write then you wont do too well
Great teacher. good lecture and discussions, she loves having discussions and loves it when you give your opinion. only 2 tests midterm and final so it's kinda hard in that sense but the test is pretty much all the book. you have to have the book b/c she has you do assignments in it but it is a very helpful book b/c she follows it.
she is a kick ass teacher, i would totally recommend her to any student that wants a professor that actually listens to what you think. People say she has a strong opinion but she knows and believes in what she talks about which is a hell of lot better then half the professors at towson. take her shes awesome!
She's not quite like any other prof I've had at TU, but that's good thing. We had some amusing class discussions and lots of laughs. You'll have some reader responses to do but they're simple and she grades more on effort. 2 multiple choice tests as well.
interesting teacher..brings up interesting topics and somehow connects them to sociology. She has some homework assignments which are really easy, 1 midterm and 1 final. The midterm and final are multiple choice which can be annoying but if u take good notes, go to class, and read the book, should be fine. Overall a pretty easy class.
Honestly, not my favorite class, espescially when I was taking it. She started out with theories and the lectures were boring even though she does try her best to make it interesting. But I left the class learning more that I thought I did. Very benficial and eye-opening. And she's very nice and tries to be interesting. Take the class!
Although lectures can be boring she definitly spices up the class. You'll definitly laugh your ass off. She really says it like it is. Very straight forward. 2 multiple choice tests, mandatory attendance, required to take notes from the text for a grade. I definitly suggest this class if you like to get into discussions and want to learn a lot!
If you like discussion, this class is for you. The readings are interesting (for the most part) and you will really enjoy learning about culture. Heather is a great teacher and very fun and personable. She's definitely not your average professor! She's opinionated, but she doesn't let that interfere when she's teaching. Take her!
not a class for people who are looking to skate through, but if one is actually at college to learn and study this is a great course... hax really knows her stuff and the material is super interesting... this is one of the few classes i've taken at towson in which i actually felt like i was doing college-level work instead of high or middle school!
2 tests, and many homework text notes. Shes very interested in her teaching and very class involved, and willing to hear your opinion out. Very silly and goofy but not a pushover on grades. average to good teacher
its an intro class, its not rocket science. She makes this class about as interesting as it can be. Likes to play devil's advocate and ocassionally think critically about the world you live in
This class is pretty easy. There are 3 tests that aren't very hard. Every couple of classes you have to read a chapter and take notes on it; it is very easy and you get a lot of points for it. Take notes in class and review them before the test and you will do fine. Lots of discussions in class.
This is the first teacher I have seen that yells at students when they are late. Really intelligent but not very clear on exactly what she wants you to do all the time. Everyone kept messing up the format of the daily readings up until the last week. A lot of reading and writing but no tests. She opened my eyes to new things so it was worth it.
She is so awesome! I haven't even finished this class but i'm ready to tell you that this class is a must-take! she touches on some real issues that you want to know about, trust me. She also really hot. Lots of discussion and critical thinking is involved. Take her for this Gened and you won't be dissapointed.
Gives you a lot of hard readings, you discuss them in class but it doesn't help. She's interesting but an expanded diction is a must. Expects you to understand everything she is having you read. Outrageous - definitely out there. She's kind and will cut you some slack. No tests except final- book report and weekly readings- allowed to miss two.
Seriously one of the best teachers I've ever had.
She is awesome! Yea, to me the class was a little hard, but I don't do so well in testing and this class is only 3 tests and that's your grade. Overall I feel like I learned alot, she understands the world and is SOOOO not afraid to tell you what she thinks about it! She offers great insight to this corse and really knows what she is talking about!
Led group discussions every week on relevant topics and course material. Sounds fun right? WRONG. She only allowed one side of every argument to be heard. Said things like "I don't buy that" to other people's ideas and opinions if she didn't agree. Very hypocritical; wants everyone to participate and express themselves but then shoots them down
I drop her class after the 1st exam, you have to know everything on the power point, notes and the book. no review sheet or anything, just know everything she has went through. I got a 80 on the exam but I still drop it, I'm not going to spend lots time in a Gen ad class.
Indoctrination. I don't think she'd disagree. If you agree with her, you'll love her and she'll love you. If you disagree, shut the heck up and pretend you do.
a lot of reading and writing. A tough grader..if your ideas are different from prof. hax's expect a low grade. don't take this class!
*Warning: if you're a thoughtless loser, do not take this class!* I loved this class! If you've ever had to work for anything in your life, including grades, you'll love this class. She doesn't just give out A's, you do have to show up to class and earn them. No papers, 3/4 exams, powerpoints and discussions. Go on take it, you'll love it!
Prof.Hax is one of the most incredible/prodigious professors I've ever had. This class reminded me why it matters to care about this world. She has a mind of her own but isn't that what we should want in our educators? I've rarely met people that I truly believe their purpose in life is to teach, Prof. Hax is one of them. Take her classes.
Hax knows her stuff. She also has a fiery passion for the subject which, in my opinion, is what separates mediocre professors from great ones. This class doesnt even work towards my major, but it is the only one I make sure I never miss. I'm only a few weeks in and already this class has been a real eye opener. This is what college should be about.
Lots of notes (are not posted on blackboard). Tests are straight from the notes if you study them and NY Times articles are easy too. Shes very funny too! Not a bad teacher overall
shes sooo awesome. her lectures are interesting, shes just a cool lady. her test are hard, but theyre straight from the notes. take her
I thought she was hard, along with a good portion of the class. no tests other than the final, but essays of at least 3 pages (if you want a good grade) every week on a case study.
Great prof. Makes the uninteresting relatively interesting. Go to class and take notes and the tests aren't hard. Nothing unexpected. Would definitely take again.
Shes very opinionated which is great but if you dont agree she probably wont like ya much. The classes consisted of reading articles then writing what you think, basically your opinion. not hard. the test however wasnt prepared very well. just kind of disorgainized.
I liked Professor Hax a lot. I'm a sociology major, but her class is one that anyone would enjoy. Cares a lot about students and material. Very helpful if you ask. If you go to class and pay attention it's hard to get a bad grade. Lots of super easy pop quizzes. Tests are vocab terms and concepts. poor grade is probably on you.
She's very passionate about her work. Tests are tricky, but nothing unexpected. Good professor, only three tests, but make sure you read and show up on time. She gives pop quizzes often.
I dreaded going to this class. The teacher is so opinionated and makes offensive statements that have no place in a classroom. She uses power points with so many words on a slide that you have no time to write and listen to her ramble at the same time. Her tests are hard too. I wouldn't take her if I were you.
Hax is great. She makes you work for your grade, if you're looking for an free ride A, dont take her, its alot of material to cover for a 101 class. But shes pretty cool.
Excellent class. If you are a student who barely gets by in college and puts no effort into your academics then do not take her class. She is extremely knowledgable in her field and passionate. GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS. She is more than willing to help anyone who seeks her assistance. Overall, GREAT professor.
Great professor. I'm a SOSC major and didn't really like it until I took her class. Many students say she is opinionated or is unreasonably hard, but the fact is she leaves you plenty of rope so you can either tie yourself a noose or clime to the top. She is definitely opinionated but she is accommodating to those who disagree.
Hax is a great professor who shares her oppinions freely, but it's nothing offensive. She gives excellent lectures so make sure to take good notes and READ THE BOOK. Pop quizzes often and 3 challenging tests. Not an easy A, but not a boring class either I would definitely recommend her!
It is an interesting class but it is ALOT of work. everytime you read a new chapter there will be a pop quiz at the beginging of class, so you kind of have to teach your self. she know her stuff s her tests are very hard!i studied like crazy and managed to get a B on my test. so just put in alot of work and studying and you will do fine.
HER TESTS ARE HARD SO STUDY! She is the type of teacher that wants to change the world through her sociology class! Makes the course hard so if your a nursing major, take an easier teacher!!!
Loved this class! This was my second time taking it and it was way better with her. You never know what to study but if you study I'm sure you'll pass. Pop Quiz at the beginning of every class but if even you read only the summary you will be fine! Professor has a lot of cool ass tats too!
An excellent professor. She is very knowledgeable on the subject matter and eager to help students. Has high standards for grading. Be sure to read the assigned readings by the dates on the syllabus. SHE IS ONE OF THOSE LIFE CHANGING PROFESSORS, DONT MISS OUT!!!
She was a funny, entertaining, overall good professor. The tests were hard especially if you are not an auditory learner. Make sure you READ the text book and GO TO CLASS!
Prof. Hax was an amazing professor. The class was a pre-req for my FMST major. She made class very interesting, played a lot of videos. Reading the text book is required as is participation. You get one chance for extra credit during the semester. TAKE HER!
Very passionate about sociology and her class. Very strict about attendance and whether or not you're paying attention. Very fair and can be very funny. Tests are not challenging if you study the notes thoroughly. She gives tons of extra credit and encourages opinions and class discussions.
She is fair teacher. All of the notes (which are a lot) are displayed on a power point. If you study, it is not hard.
VERY COOL teacher. Go to class and be RESPECTFUL. she WILL call you out in front of everyone if you are rude. You take A LOT of notes but they are very useful for tests. You should read the chapters before but not necessary since that's basically the note but reading helps on the quizzes. Take her.
Teacher only cares about her personal views, she spent more time preaching about socialism then the actual class. Be prepared to be tested on her liberal hippy views. Tests are extremely hard!!!
Hax is a great professor who challenges her students to really apply what she teaches in class; more than I can say for other teachers I've had at this university. She's strict, but also funny. You will be tested on being able to apply theories & quizzed on book material. Also, attendance it mandatory. Take her!
The class isn't easy for a person who doesn't like to study, doesn't like to apply theories or think critically. Heather Hax is an incredibly, enthusiastic, intelligent and passionate professor. I would recommended her to any students to the fullest. She is opinionated which may bother some people, but she is open to other ideas.
This class is so unnecessarily hard. All she does is talk about what she believes to be true and only cares about her opinions. Most classes all she does is rant about society, I don't even know what we are talking about most of the time. If you want an easy or just an enjoyable class I suggest taking another professor.
She is awesome and has a great sense of humor/passion for Soc! There is a lot of note taking and she doesn't post the power point's online so attendance is crucial. Don't let that stop you, you're supposed to be in class anyway. 4 tests (including final) but if you study the notes you should be fine. Extra credit is offered too.
Class is pretty hard. You must read the text book, she gives quizzes on each chapter. Must attend and take notes. If you do both of those the exams aren't too hard. She's very passionate about what she does and is very influential. I definitely recommend taking her as long as you don't slack off!
Her class isn't a breeze, but she is really fun to listen to and passionate about the material. Quizzes on each chapter/reading so those are a must, but other than that plus a couple exams no real assignments. Over all an interesting and fun class. Advice: don't slack too hard because she moves fast enough that you will fall behind.
I found this class to be very hard, but I enjoyed it. I learned a lot throughout the course and the professor is extremely helpful and passionate about what she does. She comes off very intimidating in the begining but you get use to it. If you're looking to take an easy core class, don't take this professor.
The class is very demanding for an intro course. Hax is very passionate about the material. If you stay on top of everything, and don't slack off then you'll be fine, but I suggest taking this class with different professor.
Great teacher! Very passionate about the course she teaches. Pop quizzes are given often but you will recognize the pattern after each chapter. Her notes are very detailed. Test become harder and harder but she is always available for help! Must work hard for a good grade
She is a really good teacher overall. She is clear about what she expects from you, she explains everything thoroughly and there are no surprises on tests. However, she does not post the ppts online which makes it very hard to study. If you have her, it is crucial to do all of the readings, go to class, and take very good notes to get a good grade
Do not take this teacher! She is horrible her lectures are so boring and will put you to sleep. Her test are difficult and she expects you to read the book for everything. Her quizzes are only 3 questions and are mostly pop quizzes. If you aren't on her good side she will most likely hate you. The final was very hard and i pulled and all nighter
She swears a lot but is really funny and smart. Reading the book helps to clarify things because she seems to assume that people know what she's talking about and talks quickly. There are no papers and there is one extra credit opportunity per semester. The powerpoint slides aren't online so attendance is pretty important. She's awesome.
Great teacher, very funny. Class is pretty easy, make sure to read the textbook and supplemental readings bc she gives a "pop quiz" for each chapter (4 questions, not hard). There are 3 tests (40 mc and 2 short answer) and the final is cumulative. You have to study for the tests! NO PAPERS
Material was dull, 2-4 page paper due every week only worth 10 points. Made it hard to focus on other classes bc there was so much work for this. Loved Hax as a person, funny, very smart &passionate about the topic but ppts were direct quotes from readings with hardly any explanation. Fell behind on grading, expects a lot, hard to please really.
Cool teacher but probably one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. I have taken other sociology classes and done very well in them, not this one. Readings and pop quizzes happen often and tests are very difficult. She tends to explain things in a complicated manner which really got me on the tests. Our class average is fairly low.
Horrible class. Do not take it unless you want to listen to her preach about all of her liberal beliefs.
She's great! Class is only 4 tests and 10 pop quizzes. Do the supplemental readings for the quizzes, but they're pretty easy when it's only about textbook readings. She is very outspoken about her own beliefs, but I think it adds to the class, and doesn't detract from it. Tests are each some multiple choice and 2 short answer.
Clear-cut lectures, tells you like it is (even though others say she's "opinionated"), funny, over all one of the best professors I've had. And hey, no papers!! Just read the chapters you're supposed to, you get a quiz for each chapter before the lecture, and show up and you're good! Info is also posted on BB too. Great professor!!
Every new section theres a "pop" quiz given before class. The first test is hard but from there on your grade will improve dramatically. Lectures are kind of interesting, she makes them fun and is opinionated but not in a bad way. She is a very down to earth person but DO NOT use your cellphone. She also offers extra credit
She is an amazing professor that clearly knows what she is talking about. Go to class and take notes and you will pass no problem. Pop quizzes are almost every week but you just have to look at the syllabus and when the assigned chapter readings are due are the quiz dates. Definitely take her.
A good teacher and really knows what she's talking about. Tests were hard and one quiz per unit, worships the syllabus like the bible.
Very clear on what will be expected of you for tests. It's a good idea to skim the chapters, but she goes through everything that's on the tests. First test is pretty hard. Gives extra credit throughout the semester. Very critical of injustice in our society, which was refreshing. There are plenty pop quizzes, but they are easy to finesse.
Heather Hax is a very nice woman and a great professor. She is opinionated and is able to relate to her students. She is understanding and patient. No phones allowed in class and as long as you show up and participate you'll do fine. Read the readings she assigns!
ALOT of content, she does not cover thoroughly in lectures. No homework grades only pop quizzes, exams, and final. Does not make it simple at all or helpful to students.
I took globalization as my TSEM with professor Hax. This class is not the easiest and a bit work heavy, but extremely rewarding. I learned so much valuable information in her class and became a better writer. She is extremely charismatic and cares about her students. She wants you to succeed and will help you as much as you need. Take her class!
The lectures she gives can be boring but Hax elaborates upon the material very well. You're gonna have to write alot of papers, probably one a week. Although the writing may be hard, Hax makes sure to give good feedback in order to better you as a writer.
A lot of people on here say that Hax is highly opinionated and it's true, but I think it adds a lot to the material. She is still open to other opinions, teaches the subject well and gets the respect of the class. I would gladly take another class by her!
Honestly have no clue why people call her opinionated, she shows you data for EVERYTHING. I enjoyed the class and she's probably been my favorite professor at Towson so far cause she cares
Professor Hax really opened my eyes to a lot of the underlying problems of our society. She is a fair grader and a cool person. Would highly recommend!
Professor Hax is a nice lady, but grades papers pretty hard. It is for the best ,though, because the class IS to help you improve your writing skills. Very strict laptop and cellphone policy. The topic to me was very boring.
Hax was a great professor and I really learned a lot in her class; she really opened my eyes up to a lot of things going on and especially current events. Was a good class but not a lot of grades so make sure you do well on the assignments you get.
She's a great person but pretty tough grader! Make sure you re-read your papers. She has online quizzes that are easy just read, and you can do more than the requirement to drop the lowest grade(s). She gives 2 exams, 5 take home quizzes, and 1 paper.
Professor Hax is a nice lady and knows what she's talking about. I didn't really like the subject, but she opened my eyes to a lot of important things. If you put in the effort, you'll get a good grade in this class. You need to read the book and articles, however; she loves pop quizzes.
Boring topic. Definitely do the readings because she gives pop quizzes a lot. Very strict with cell phone/laptop policy, if she sees you even look at your phone she'll call you out for it. Hard grader but she did give a lot of feedback and I feel like this class helped to improve my writing skills
shes a good professor and all, i just feel like she goes through the material way too fast. Mostly test and quiz grades so read up on the chapter and extra readings to get easy quiz points. does offer extra credit throughout the semester. she use's the "banking method" style of teaching (she lectures, you listen...)
Prof. Hax is a GREAT professor, however, if you are not interested in globalization, DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. It's very difficult to write about something you don't understand. And while she is a very sweet, it's scary to approach her. She does give tons of great feedback on the thousands of papers you right but if you want easy, don't take her TSEM.
Hax is awesome. Her class is tough and you have to read the textbook but she just makes what youre learning about so interesting. She asks for participation and it really helps you understand what she is talking about. Shes my favorite professor Ive had so far and would totally take a class with her again!!
Professor Hax is really nice as long as you stay on her good side. Hates all phone use and laptop use if she can tell you're on the internet/not using it for class, and she will 100% call you out. Reading quizzes for every chapter and the dates are in the syllabus, however she doesn't remind you which is annoying. Extremely opinionated.
Hax is backed up by stats and she knows what she's talking about but every single lecture: she puts students down her students and she does not push students to do their best. The density of this course well exceeded a 100 level course, sure thats fine- a good challenge is always nice but we have work hard just to dip our toes into a broad concept.
Hax is a great professor, you can tell she really cares about what she teaches and she wants her students to know more about what is going on in the world. Her lectures are heavy but if you take good notes and read the assigned readings then you'll do fine. 3 tests and a couple of quizzes.
The class is awesome. Professor Hax knows what she's doing, NOT opinionated. Stays up to date with current news for each topic, never bored during the lecture. Must study for the test and come to class, even though the powerpoints are on blackboard, attendance would boost your final grade... Would take her class again.
Hax is one of the best professors ive had at towson. If you study and read from the textbook you will be fine. This class does take quite a bit of studying since there is a lot to remember. She gets a bad rep because she's assertive and isnt a push-over.
The topic she covers for TSEM is complex, but she is a wonderful professor! Yes, there are a lot of papers but that is basically what the class is for. You have to work for your grade, so if you put in effort she will know and give you a grade that reflects your effort.
She's a really great professor. She engages the class and encourages discussions. Make sure you read the required material beforehand because she does give quizzes. She is funny and quirky and has a great personality. The workload is quite light and reasonable, just be sure to study. Attendance isn't required, but it makes sense to go to class.
Sure the class was kinda hard, but honestly, she is such a good teacher. I have learned so much and actually enjoyed learning it. It was a bit confusing but if you ask questions, she will clarify for you.
Hax is amazing! She is so into her work and teaches to the max. A lot of the class is powerpoints but there is a lot of student input. Tests are easy if you study. Make sure to read all the material before the due date because of pop quizzes. They're easy if you read though. She's funny and cares about the world. Def take her.
I love Pr. Hax. She keeps up to date with everything happening in and/or around her field so the discussions are always relevant. There is a lot of reading but its mostly current events. If you read or at east use context clues, youll do well on her pop quizzes. Shes very progressive / liberal so if that rubs you the wrong way, dont take her.
Professor Hax is an amazing professor. She truly knows the topic very well, and is open to answering any questions we have. There is usually a quiz on the readings each week, but she drops the lowest two test grades. Tests are kind of difficult, but she gives study sessions before each one. 100% recommend!
Professor Hax makes a 100 level course seem like a 300 level course. The material isn't extremely hard but you've definitely gotta put work in. There are pop quizzes on the chapters you have to read almost every week. She does give extra credit and drops your lowest quiz grade.
For an intro class it can be hard for some because they may not expect to have to put in actual work. If u do the readings which honestly don't take long and pay attention its not bad. There are in-class(not hard) and online quizzes(can be tricky). Test are easy, straight off her lecture notes, make flash cards with all of her notes and ur set.
Hax is one of the best professors I've ever had in my college career thus far. Her lectures are captivating and she encourages students to think critically about the information covered during the lecture. She is not afraid to tackle challenging and controversial topics. She gives a lot of assignments but they're easy if you do the readings.
I took this to get a core out of the way hoping it would be interesting but the class is a bit boring. Hax isn't the worst but it was really hard to stay focused in class because the lectures were just not intriguing. Be prepared to take a reading quiz almost every class so be sure to read the chapters she assigns. The exams are not too hard STUDY!
I have Prof Hax during Fall 2018. If there is a chapter assigned, expect an in class reading quiz or an online reading quiz. As long as you read, you will ace the quizzes. The exams were not hard, the questions were very surface level but you need to study in order to succeed.
I liked Ms. Hax! Her lectures are interesting and she gives her honest opinion on topics discussed in class. There were 3 exams, quizzes on chapters in the textbook, and 3 chart assignments. She also gives extra credit opportunities throughout the semester along with assignments that can replace your lowest quiz grade.
Overall, I really enjoyed her class. I wasn't expecting to like sociology at all but I was pleasantly surprised. She gives very thorough lectures and teaches all of the content you need to know. I enjoyed going to her class and thought she had entertaining lectures. Lots of work but if you just pay attention and study, it's fairly easy to do well.
Before Hax's class, I read her rmp and was worried. I almost dropped her class but glad I didn't. Hax is an *AMAZING* prof. She is extremely knowledgeable and passionate. She is liberal but never without a factual basis. The class is hard, but is doable. If you want to actually learn, don't listen to the bad reviews, take Hax. She's worth the work.
Hax is SUCH an inspiring sociology professor which is rare to find... She actually motivates you to be involved in our democracy and fight for what you believe in. She is openly political (left) which made the class more interesting to debate on topics. she is a tough grader but the class discussions and content was so worth it
She's rude. The subject is boring and her lecturing style doesn't make it better. Attendance is taken and every class there's a pop quiz.
Professor Hax is a very nice person, however, she would push her political views on the students. As a strong believer that politics should be kept away from the classroom, she made it feel wrong to disagree with her, stopping myself and many other students from participating in class. Regardless, her class was enjoyable and she is hilarious!
Professor Hax is a tough and just grader. To do well in her class, you must read and follow all instructions. In this class, any component of the research paper is scaffolded, meaning you have to turn in each part before the next. If one part is missing, you cant turn in the rest of it. Failing the class.
She is a stickler but she wants you to succeed and that's why she's so strict. People think her exams are hard but they're simply not. Attendance is mandatory so go to class and listen and you will literally be fine. Barely any reading or homework/assignments. She puts all of the PowerPoints on blackboard. Take her if you want to actually learn.
Honestly at first i was intimated by her, i though she was rude.. but i learned to love her! She is very passionate, and corky. As long as you take notes and study them its really not a hard class. Lectures are long but she makes them funny/interesting. I recommend this class.
A lot of people on here say Professor Hax has a hard class and that they would not take her again. However, I disagree. Professor Hax was one of my favorite lecture teachers. Yes, you have to read the text, study and work for you grade, but its college and other classes are mostly the same. do what your supposed to and a good grade shouldnt be hard
As long as you go to class its a guaranteed A. I made flashcards which I didn't really need but helped. The tests are multiple-choice with about two short answers.
If there is other professors to take, do it. Thought this class would be good but was sadly mistaken.
1 of the best profs @ Towson. 2nd time I've taken Hax. Difficult grader but the class is worth it. Extremely passionate. Her lectures are captivating and she facilitates very meaningful discussions. Hax cares about her students and is a very cool person. She is openly politically left. 1 paper, reading quizzes, 2 exams, + 1 written assignment.
Such a great teacher and awesome person in general. I was struggling with late work this semester because of personal issues and she never deducted points. She is openly left but encourages different rational perspectives in class. Always available for help. Her grading is just for freshman college level writing. Just need to read a lot every week
As an online class, even attending she does not clarify when the tests will be and odes not put them on the calendar either. She is rude and does not understand excused absences.
Professor Hax in very insightful and her class showed this greatly. This class requires a fair amount of reading and if you want to pass you have to attend class and listen to the lectures. If you choose to give 50%, your grade will absolutely reflect that. Overall I think she is a wonderful teacher and recommend you take her course. HARD CLASS!
Professor Hax is extremely dedicated to teaching students. Her class is demanding of effort and participation but usually these are the classes you learn the most in. The class is not hard if you put in the work. I loved her class and took her social movements class too. If you are looking for a soc teacher that truly cares then this is your gal.
Professor Hax is very passionate and kind. She is very understanding and genuinely wants you to pass! She offers some extra credit and bonus quizzes. The class was definitely difficult but you can definitely pass if you put in the work. A LOT of reading and the quizzes and exams were hard! If you don't show up and study/read, you will 100% fail.
LOVED HER CLASS. Professor Hax is very entertaining and the material is interesting. You need to put in effort but if you don't, you'll probably fail. 100% would take her again.
if you want to stress until your hair falls out please take her class. sweet women yet she expects undergrads to understand the material like we have a PhD in it. She's the toughest grader I have ever had in my 5 years at Towson. If you thought this class was an easy a GUESS AGAIN. weekly quizzes, 2 exams (makes her own questions)4 heavy papers.
If you're looking for an easy TSEM class, this is not the professor for you. Very lecture heavy, a lot of writing, and make sure you read the texts she assigns because there will be pop quizzes. Overall if you show up to class, read the texts, and aren't bad at writing you will do fine in the class.
Hax is a great professor. Passionate and entertaining lectures. Lots of quizzes but they're online and not too tough. Tests are easy if you study from the lecture. She talks to her students like they're human beings. She also live streams her classes if you can't make it in person which is so helpful. You will need to textbook and do the readings.
Great teacher just dont think she was the teacher for me. Tough grader and plenty of work. Knowledgeable on topics
expects you to know everything about the topics like its your major. Grades hard and picks out tiny details, will scream at you if you pack up a minute before class ends. Literally was the class I had the most homework for yet was the least important class on my schedule. god forbid you don't understand the academic readings. gives pop quizzes too
She means well but will shove her political beliefs down your throat. She expects freshman under grads to be able to write a paper as if we have our PhD. tough grader. i with drew bc there was no way of saving my grade and going to her class was something i dreaded.
She was a very tough grader and you do have to show up to almost every class to pass. There are pop quizzes based on the readings but as long as you take notes and show up you will be fine and it helps boost your grade. Very writing and lecture heavy. She is very knowledgeable and funny if you give her a chance. Do your work and you will be fine.
I love love love Prof. Hax and her class. I can understand how she may not be everyones cup of tea... but if she is yours you will thrive. Every class is so amusing I actually get excited to go. If you follow along in class (it's so entertaining you will, and review the slides before a test you will do great.
Professor Hax has a huge personality that make lectures exciting and less procedural. I hold a lot of respect for Professor Hax as her insight can be very educational and change your own perspectives. She is a pretty tough grader and content questions are super deep which can be difficult. I would not want a different professor for SOCI 101.
She was unreasonable. She is work heavy and doesnt care if you struggle with the work load or subject. To her shes an amazing teacher so if anyone fails its because they didnt try hard enough. She sometimes talks on stuff she got no business talking about like black culture and black protests. She is the white moderate that MLK Jr talks about.
Professor Hax is extremely knowledgeable about the subject and makes lectures modern and engaging. She's strict no phones/ no computers, and attendance greatly impacts your grade. If you read, take notes, and show up, you'll pass. Sometimes lectures can be long but for the most part, you learn a lot
Was not a fan of Professor Hax. She likes to give her opinions on political and racial topics which racial topics are not her place to discuss. Dreaded coming to class. Quizzes are given about every other week and exams are about 40 multiple choice questions with two short ended responses. Do not just read her lecture notes, read the textbook also.
Professor Hax was very difficult for me. She is very lecture heavy but when it comes time for exams the info wasn't even on the lectures. No study guides. Quizzes online every other week. One extra credit was given. I struggled in this class. If sociology isn't your thing do not take professor Hax.
An amazing professor. Strong personality and makes sociology interesting. I found that her personal anecdotes helped me understand the concepts better. Tests are a huge portion of your grade, so study her slides. Some quizzes that are online and pretty straightforward. Not too much work, and I definitely learned a ton from her class. Take Hax!
Very lecture-heavy course, but as long as you stay diligent in keeping up with notes and reading the textbook, you will do fine. PP slides are available if you miss a class. Three tests and a few quizzes. Strict about cellphones. Can be pretty funny too.
Hax is great at teaching, but is a below average professor. Her 100level course feels like a 300-400level and has no study guides. Almost 10 quizzes and LOTS of reading to do, three 200point tests too. EVERYTHING is in class, do not skip. She does give around 175 points of extra credit, with her super easy "chart assignments". Overall mid professor
She made me fall in love with sociology. She is a big no on cell phones during class lectures. Amazing lectures but get ready to ready to read article, website, notes, etc. All are time consuming. Get ready to write as if you are in some graduate school and she is very tough in grading. Trust me, she will read all written exam, assignments, essay
Professor Hax is an extremely opinionated professor and is not afraid to preach her own ideas in the classroom. She is opinionated when she grades as well. Classes are mandatory; this was the only class I dreaded attending each week. If you have any opinions different than that of what she teaches, you are in for a long semester.
Hax is extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic about this topic and it makes the course 100x better. Straightforward course if you do the reading -- a few chapters every week or so. Quizzes on the readings and a term paper are the only grades and she drops your lowest quiz grades. She is very strict about phones and attendance but it's worth it.
She is VERY strict with electronics and will have a heart attack if she sees any devices out. She is also very heavy lecture base. She lectures the entire class with reading quizzes mixed in about once a week. She definitely knows a lot about she is lecturing about and will constantly ask for engagement.
10/10 . Grades fairly, amazing humor, very informed of her craft / hilarious. She even lent me a spare copy of the book since I couldn't get one at the time! I highly recommend but attendance is mandatory so don't expect a good grade unless u show up. Tough work but it gets easier towards the end.
Professor Hax is an incredible teacher. She is funny, kind, engaging and is very knowledgeable in her field. Quizzes are open book, there are tons of extra credit opportunities, the class and how to succeed is straightforward, Homework is pretty light if there is any, all in all great teacher.
Hax has a good ethic, high standards for her students, and demands respect, which I can appreciate and that's honestly why she's so strict on devices. People really do online shop during class and don't listen. You can tell she cares about the material and radicalizing her students to make change in the world. Overall really good and challenging.
Professor Hax spent the entire semester complaining about how she doesn't make enough money, complaining about random laws in Maryland, and just other random stuff. She seems like a decent person outside of class, but she doesn't seem like she cares if you succeed. Her exams are hard and literally anything she briefly mentioned is fair game.
Professor Hax did a good job keeping her lectures interesting. Textbook wasn't mandatory, but it was highly recommended especially for quizzes. She gave out quizzes once a week at the beginning of class that were 10 minutes long, 5 questions and fairly easy if you understood the reading. She allowed a notecard for all tests, even the final.
She can seem strict, but it's honestly for your own good. She teaches very well and is opinion heavy, but it makes class very interesting. Exams are easy if you study. Love her tbh.
Professor Hax is a very strict professor. Her exams are very difficult and can include content from the textbook that was not really explained in class. No study guides for the exams and the content is not clear. It felt like a upper level course which was surprising for a 101 class. Unreasonable grader.
Fast paced class she does not allow phones out or laptops heavy on notetaking she is loud n sometimes a little aggressive but overall cares ab students and willing to excuse abscences if you message beforehand
She's rude and didn't let me take a quiz coming 2 mins late but earlier last week I watched her let someone take a quiz when they came like 8 mins late. She's very political and it will often feel like if you don't laugh at her I hate trump jokes theres no connection between you and the class whos laughing at her jokes. Avoid its hard for nothing.
Really chill professor, I found her lectures very interesting but you NEED to pay attention and show up for class. As long as you study you'll pass her class. She can be tough at times but she's generally very nice.
from the start & throughout the entire sem she makes it really clear how she grades & what u can do to get a good grade (she emphasizes what u need to know for exams in class) so its really helpful. she's super strict about no phones but it really isnt that terrible unless u have a phone addiction. assignments are easy & she gives extra cred!
Professor Hax runs a fast-paced class with strict policies, but she genuinely cares about student learning. Attendance is mandatory, and exams can be challenging, but with diligent studying using resources like Unstuckstudy, you can succeed in this course.
Professor Hax has no empathy and does not care if you struggle in her class. She will stop the entire class if someone is using a laptop or phone and constantly goes off on her political beliefs. Not a very good professor when it comes to actually conveying the material. It's not worth it.
She's great, but demands respect and for you to pay attention, which comes off to a lot of people as her being mean or something. There's really nothing wrong with how she teaches as long as you aren't addicted to your devices or talk constantly. A lot of quizzes, but they are all open note/open book. Lots of lectures and has high standards.
2 novels required open book, open notes, open computer weekly quizzes The problem here is that can you read assigned reading for the quizzes, if you can read 50- 100 pages per each quiz go for it The lectures were boring for real not for me exam: one final essay that you get to pick a topic but mind you she is tough grader
Dr. Hax is an exemplary professor that has motivated me to become more involved in politics. Her approach is very informative, fun and inspiring rather than dull. She has interesting stories about her organizing work and knows about social movements in both a national and international scale. Be ready to read a lot though
She definitely have some things going on in her head. When Trump got elected, she got teary and said "I'm sorry this has happen to ur generation and ur life will all be ruined. This is the end of the world." Doesn't care about her students, LOTS of reading, LOTS of quizzes, LOTS of writing. Her class content is like 3 classes combined. smh
It felt like if you had a problem she wasn't understanding. I felt like she didn't care to make sure we pass her class and her grading was insane. She also takes off 5 percent of your grade if you don't have an excused documentation absence (she takes it very seriously and doesn't accommodate or understand if there isn't actual documentation).
She made this class extremely difficult and not enjoyable because of her grading, lack of respect for her students. She made it seem like she wants to fail us all. She wages our grade so high,it makes us fail. Now I'm going to probably retake this class but definitely not with her. The absence policy is crazy too
She shouldn't be a professor. Majority of her class consist of her telling her personal stories, cussing, and saying how bad trump is. She prob saw all these bad rating and said in class that this is nothing compared to grad school and if you had easier class than this, ur other professor is terrible. Doesn't she know she is the problem? AVOID HER!
A LOT of reading, need a physical textbook and read about 40-50pgs every week, plus the quizzes and writing. The exams are impossible to get an A. Her blackboard is also like 3 classes combined, making it more complicated. For an introductions class, she thinks this is your major and needs to understand every little thing.
prof.Hax seemed cool in the beginning but then she just started trying too hard to be a pain for no reason. The class consisted of bi-weekly quizzes based on the readings and power points so make sure you read. But tbh as someone who barely read the readings you would be fine just skimming through the text as each quiz is open book.
Professor Hax has high expectations for her students but it's because she cares. There is a good amount of reading, but she wants students to engage in the course material and truly take something from the class. She is very helpful with papers during office hours, but you have to communicate. Putting in effort and attending consistently is key.
I took HONR 370 but that wasn't an option. Dr. Hax is very passionate. I learned a lot from her class and the conversations we had were very engaging. Would definitely recommend if you want to see other perspectives.
I wish I could have good things to say about this course, because I think the topics themselves are highly important, do not take this course with her. She puts her political stance into every lecture, rather than educating us on the subject. She cusses at students, calls you out if you even glance at your watch, and cries during lectures.
If you miss one of the assignments, just drop her class. She would never take anything late, so don't even try it. She can be tough, but she just wants you to learn. I enjoy the class.
Professor Hax is not how people make her seem, she is political in her lectures but they were engaging and there is a quiz the first 10 mins of class open note. She gives ALOT of extra credit and I used it every chance I got. Attendance is mandatory and as long as you understand the three approaches and how to apply them the class is easy.
Professor Hax is a great teacher. Her class is very hard; you cannot slack off and still do well. There is lots of writing but she gives good feedback and if you listen to it your grade will improve. She does not allow phones or laptops. I learned a lot from this class, both in terms of climate change and also college writing expectations.
Had her for SOCI102, she was super knowledgeable and passionate, she made sure we were prepared for every exam, and she gave great feedback on the three reflection papers we had to submit during the course. Taking another class with her this semester, she's great
I found her input of personal opinions and beliefs to be important and engaging. Her lectures always had my attention and I learned a great deal from her. People saying there are pop quizzes simply was not true for my class, all of her quizzes were posted on her syllabus/course schedule, and they were always easy!
She is political, please know that. She knows her stuff, and she will explain things clearly, but it might turn into a debate. She stands on her beliefs, and if you disagree with them, she will talk to you about it. Attendance is mandatory, but she gives a few leeways. She is expectant of you, but extra credit is offered. Good topic - take her.
Professor Hax is great, be prepared to read cause I mean its college, gives enough extra credit, explains things clearly. Doesn't allow phones or laptop usage while teaching but this actually helps to reinforce info instead of getting distracted. As long as you pay attention you WILL pass!!!!
Political heavy, the class was using the bathroom after one of her video tests and she snapped on us. She is very lecture heavy with the same monotone voice so it gets boring. Talks about how adopted kids are recycled, and ignorant to a lot of topics. She gives a lot of extra credit, but most of it is group based meaning the whole class.
As another rating said I was also in the class where she said adopted kids were "recycled". Her material is easy but so boring. She definitely has a one of a kind personality that a lot of people don't enjoy. She's very political and if you don't agree with her beliefs she yells at you. There's also no phones allowed in class which helped us study
Professor Hax may not be everyones cup of tea, but she's great at her job. Shes so straight forward about grading and what is expected, especially in the syllabus. She gives so much extra credit and wants her students to do well. Only thing is shes very political, it seems to be if you had a different opinion, it would not be welcome- at all.
She's one of the most overhated professors and I will never understand why. The assignments are easy, you get so much extra credit, and she's very clear about her class grading criteria and content. Sometimes she got political but I feel like that's understandable for the subject she teaches. She's an amazing professor and teaches very well.
prof. hax is very passionate about social movements & the politics of it all. you'll learn a lot, lectures & discussions are very good. readings assigned before basically every class & pop quizzes too! attendance not mandatory but will benefit you. doesn't like phones in class. wants you to give your best effort & take class serious. can be moody.
Professor Hax is great. Definitely take her if you have the chance. There are pop quizzes which are open-note, 3 online chart assignments 2 exams, a final. For the exams and final you can have a cheat sheet on a notecard. She gives SOOO MUCH extra credit. Attendance isn't rlly mandatory, but go to class. Easy class, take her!
Professor Hax is extremely funny and her lectures are so engaging. It's definitely important to read the textbook and get an understanding by the beginning of the semester in order to get good results. She gives reading quizzes but they are pretty easy and open note. Definitely recommend showing up to class, the lectures help a lot.
