no exam yet - but her lectures are great and very helpful
Great Class
Interesting course
What a nice lady! Lectures are great, like to go to class cuz of her.

She was okay - pretty helpful and the tests were usually fair.
i have math "issues" and hoestly i'm pulling off awesome marks in this stats class! u have to do the readings before the lectures though...that helps alot, and the review questions in the text are awesome for preparing for the exams....
Great prof. Her lectures include a lot of examples and class experiments. Good course.
she's funny and nice but has hard tests and doesn't explain alot of the material very clearly.
Classes are enjoyable and she really tries to make relevant and fun examples. There is a tonne of material in the class and she only covers a bit of it in lectures and pretty brief. So you have to study the book to do well on tests.
She has lots of examples in class, covers some of the material from the text. However, her TA is not helpful at all. Her tests are pretty hard even if you study a lot. She can be kind of tricky on tests.
TA is crap, very uptight about her marking schemes and wont even give you insight on what the heck you did wrong. tests are marked very unfairly.
She is a great prof. Stats made sense. Her tests were way too looong though. Everyone would have done a lot better if either the tests were shorter or if there was more time.
no need to attend class, notes are online and taken directly from text book, generally impatient and doesn't like explaining, when you ask her to slow down she says "its online" so, be prepared to do ALL the text and SG questions in order to und
She is so great. She's a bit flighty but it's what I need to keep me awake in my 8:30 am class. She's always smiling and joking. She's very helpful and clear. A very good teacher.
she is nice but her exams are hard and she does not want to help that much. Insulted a student in the class with atleast made me not ask her anything. THanks god we had a great TA!
very helpful and easy to talk to. Has interesting research going on and makes class interesting. The tests aren't a piece of cake but the course is well worth it!
Heather is amazing...she has made stats a wonderful experience for me, even though I've been dreading it since grade 12!!! She is very clear and always helpful...I would definitely take this class with her.
Boring class, crappy prof, great TA.... the prof didn't want to help at all with the math problems and her tests were killer hard. can't wait to get rid of her!!
WAT THE HELL?? SHE DANCES AROUND LIKE BARNEY AT THE FRONT OF THE CLASS, MAKES U FEEL STUPID 4 ASKIN' A QUESTION. SHE THINKS EVERYTHIN' IS EASY, WELL D'UH, SHE KNOWS THE STUFF. EXAMS ARE HARD. HER M/C INVOLVE WORKIN' OUT PROBLEMS, THAT'S JUST TIME CONSUMIN'...SAVE URSELF AND GET ANOTHER PROF!!!

Probably the worst prof. i've had at york. Has a very difficult teaching style, very patronizing. As a person, she seems nice enough, but if the end goal is not to meet a nice person but rather to get enjoy the course and get a good grade, she is NOT the prof. to take a class with.
This has got to be the worst prof at York. She's monologue, has trouble explaining herself and her exams are nuts! She's one prof i'm gonna stay clear off!!
Aside from stats being the devil, this course was very straight-fwd. She made things as clear/consise as possible & has great lecture notes to DL + super diagrams. Her exams are TOUGH, so be prepared! Her stats assignments/MC q's are crazy-hard, complicated & take long to complete. But she's probably the BEST STATS PROF @ YORK, I've heard worse!
She seems like an okay teacher, but I hated how she took pride in calling herself "evil" and treated everyone like a statistic. I got an A on the first test and I was BELOW the class average (!), but she said that that always ended up as a C+ by the end of the year. By her logic, it seemed like I was going to get a C in the course so I dropped it.
The best stats prof! She is funny - keeps you awake in class. Her tests are fair and she uses a great text.
She is a very nice prof. Not too boring in comparison to other profs. However, what the hell? Her tests go from easy to unbelievably hard and long! Her lecture notes suck because they are copied from the text. It is a very hard class.
Subject matter can be hard, but she made it interesting. She has a sense of humor, I liked attending lecture, she's a fun prof. However, a hard maker, and the tests are difficult.
Very good Prof
Amazing Professor.
very helpful prof, highly approachable- the tests are not easy but they are fair- fact is, you have to study to do well, it's stats. this prof goes the extra mile for her students. she is excellent.
Dr. Jenkin was a very helpful professor. She was able to take something as dry as STATS and give it a positive and cheerful spin. She doesn't have a condescending approach, and she's a lot of fun. Of course, you still need to study like mad. Test difficulty is purely based on how much you study.
She was an amazing prof!!! She totally made a dry course like Stats something interesting. Of course you have to do a lot of work (i.e., do the practice questions from the text) but you are totally prepared to answer all those questions. One suggestion: if you hate math then don't take this course.
You could not ask for a better Prof. to get students through stats.
I was a little scared to take stats before this class...but it was really enjoyable with this professor. She tries really hard to ensure that the class understands the material. The class grades did go down significantly after the first test though. Still -- I thought she was great.
She made stats easy to understand and I loved how she took up the test questions after which really helped. Very helpful and a great prof to have for math phobic people like me!
Absolutely Horrible Prof, has favorites! Avoid her if possible!! One of the worst profs at york!!!
nice prof BUT gives BRUTALl exams that you have only 1.5 hours to complete....it takes 1 hour just to do the calculations for the multiple choice, then ur scrambling to get the rest of the exam done...assignments are meant to prepare u for exams but if u receive them AFTER the exam, what's the point?
Really friendly and nice prof. Makes a boring class interesting, great lecturer all around. Good stuff! her tests are challenging and often have a couple trick questions.
Just perfect. do not fear to ask her questions cause she is nice and willing to help. Goes out of her way to make time for students need help with the material. Plus all notes are online, so there's no need to frantically try to jot down everything she says. Just sit back, relax and learn something!
she's not too bad a lecturer, but she definitely favours the geniuses in the class, ignoring the ones who are petrified at their seeming "stupidity"... i worked REALLY hard in this class and only got a B. (i usually get A's) and she taught all 15 ch's in the first semester?!! she only teaches 4 new ch's 2nd semester! VERY tricky exams, too hard!
She allows a formula sheet that you're allowed to make your self. Use #6 font and colour coded formulas, and this is a guaranteed A. I slept through most classes, but her online notes and a little bit of textbook practice got me an easy A+. Just be warned, she will ask you to answer example questions if you like to fall asleep in class!
Makes dull material (stats), relatively interesting. Helpful if you ask her. Easy to understand lecture slides, well presented material. Tests are alright, a couple trick questions, but mostly pretty straightforward. Best advice, do the problems in the textbook.
Got off to a good start but found that she made fun of students that asked questions. She overcomplicated questions and requires a COMPLETE understanding of every aspect of material. HARD HARD HARD tests. Look for another prof. if you have a choice.
I already took the same class in UofOttawa, and was completely shocked to see Short-Answer questions in an exam for Stats course. I wouldn't recomend this prof. Avoid if you can.
had her for stats and dev.. took stats as a math and aced it.. barely a B with her as she picks on details.. she has short answer questions in BOTH classes and deducts points for incorrect information.. so if u get the complete answer right and then add a wrong detail, u lose points! definitely wouldnt take her again..

This professor is one of the best professors I've ever had. I was dreading stats before I went in, but she made it much less daunting. Her lectures are awesome; she breaks down things very simply and is very articulate. I ended up with an A in the course. Take her, you wont regret it.
She's very friendly and approachable. First midterm went well but the second one contained some trick questions. Overall, the class was good, though I feel like I got robbed of my A
she is a horrible proff, stats is not her things and she is too much when it comes to picking details. she is not a nice person and not very helpful. The book used in the class is good, get the study guide it helps
worse proff ever, careless of her students. had her for statistical methods I..dropped the course at the end because of her horrible hard tests and her teaching method which only involved in READING OFF HER SLIDES (which i could have done myself)
Had her for 2110 and 2021, short answer in developmental doesnt always cover major topics, takes off unnecessary points for statistics. The courses themselves are not hard courses however she tries to make them hard through her tests. Very good lecturing.
Great Prof; funny and interesting. Incorporates a lot of anecdotes and examples to make concepts clear. Class is enjoyable. She is very positive and smiles a lot :) Makes
she is really good in lectures. stats 1 is easy easy!! the 2nd stats is harder but yet fair. she is very knowlegable and a great help. make sure that you take the assignments seriously
Great help... very understanding and committed to her work. I had a great experience

Bubbly and straight forward, she's fantastic for an intro course. She covers a lot of material and likes details, but if you keep up with the readings and attend lectures, there are no surprises on the exam. Very fair all around- uses lots of anecdotes and examples to help you understand larger concepts and relationships.
Do not Waste your time.you wanna shoot yourself in her class, try to get into other sections.good luck!!
I love this prof, she is great. Basically do your readings and their are no surprises on the exam! :)
So far she is the worst prof i have ever had. i never missed a lecture, study the whole text book, did fine on the test, but sooooo time consuming. compare to the other sections, this class is the worst. Her Lec-notes are completely useless. She puts them on and take it out in a min. DON'T TAKE PSYCH WITH HER!!!!!
you will just hate her class and tests. Don't waste your time and money!!!!
She isnt that bad.. her lectures can be pretty interesting at times. She is def a very hard prof and you have to work hard in this class, but if you do the readings ahead of time you will do fine
Overall, I think P. Jenkins is really passionate about what she does and it shows through her lectures. She is fasinated with her subject. It gets me more engaged in the material. Read the textbook@@!!
OMG worst prof ever. You will never learn anything in her class and her tests are super random. Lectures are EXTRA boring btw. DO NOT TAKE CLASSES WITH HER.
The worst prof ever.
Im getting a 91% so far, i still have one more test to write. If u plan on learning in class and doing little reading on ur own DONT take psyc1010 with her. The only reason im getting an A is bcs i study the textbook thoroughly. VERY BORING LECTURES but material on test all from textbook, no surprises.
This was a very simple, straight forward class. At first, i attended all the lectures (i was a first year), but after a while, i stopped attending lectures. The tests were super easy as long as you read the textbooks and understand the concepts and defintions. Easy A+ if you study well.
really good prof!!!! teaches with a great sense of humor! love her class!!!!!!!!!!
very nice and helpful. Her lectures can be boring, but you dont have to go because she sticks with the book only. Her exams can be tricky and they get harder but if you read the book really well , you will get a good mark. I would do another course with her.
I love her, she's so fun! She has a quirky sense of humour and I really appreciate her insights as well as real life experiences she puts into her lectures. I would go to her lectures for fun even if I wasn't taking a course with her. She's a fountain of knowledge.
I believe you get what you put into the class...but Jenkin certainly doesn't make things easy. She is VERY unapproachable, rude when you ask for help, her tests are very difficult (class average was 63- not ok for a 2nd year intro class!) It's obvious she's a researcher who is forced to do a teaching component b/c she doesn't care about students
She is a very cool prof. She has a nice english accent that makes everything she says sound smart! I loved this class and it didnt hurt that i thought she was super hot.
Who posts these comments about loving her?? She gives the worst lectures I've ever had at York. They're dry and boring. Thankfully all the information is in the text. Also, the exams can be challenging, they are fair. She does nitpick on assignments. She sometimes is uncaring when asking for help.
PSYC 4170 - THESIS: By far one of the worst profs ever for all of you who say she is nice or super great you probably havent seen her bad side she can become quite rude when you ask for her help. in 6 years of school she is the worst prof i have ever had, do NOT take a course with her!!!!!! if you are DROP OUT NOW!!!
An incredibly rude individual who loathes being approached by students. The exams were hard, & in the summer, only gave students 90 minutes to complete term tests. The class average was very low. If you're not a 'math person' & care about your GPA, you'd be wise to take the course with another professor. She really is one of the worst profs at York
My favorite prof! Knows what shes talking about & always has a reallife story 2 explain concepts. Shes so witty & very approachable. Never had such an amazing experience in school. Even though her lec were recorded, I still attended every class of hers bc she is JUSTTHATGOOD. Changed my major from Phil to Psyc just because of her.Shes amazing!
Interesting lectures, but she's known for her rudeness & hard exams. All her positive reviews are for Psych 1010, where the classes are large & interactions between prof & student are minimal. AVOID taking her classes if you can. Otherwise, be prepared to work thrice as hard & deal with a prof who can be quite mean if approached for aid.
Took her for research methods and found her decent, but w/ stats 2 it was terrible. She's horrifically boring lecturer, and will often barely mention crucial and absurdly specific rules that can lose you marks. She marks incredibly tightly. Time is a challenge on tests. If you take her, learn her short answer requirements carefully, and very well.
I got an A, but her exams are BRUTAL. The final is worth 50% and she is really picky when it comes to the SA part of the exam. I would never take another one of her classes.
A really great prof - one of my favourites. She's got a great personality and keeps the lectures interesting. Assignments and exams are very fair - you need to study your text, and the lectures help incorporate what you've read
No matter what others say, psyc is absolutely not a bird course. Tests are all multiple choice, there are assignments, and you MUST read textbook. I achieved great marks but spent over 50 hrs/wk. A LOT of memorizing and notetaking involved, but I never go to class unless it's for exams. Great professor nonetheless, funny and tell stories as example
DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCH. She is really hard and you need to study the text book. EXAMS HARD.Do not get behind or you are screwed. But I LOVE HER!! Very witty. Smart. No BS. She's been teaching to long to deal with idiots. U R responsible for your education. B/C of her, doing M.Ed in child studies and development. SHE IS EXCELLENT!
She kind of assumes that you already know the material. Her lectures are not very structured and her tests are really hard! Yould not recommend this prof unless you are really good at stats and at figuring things out on your own.
Do not take stats with her, unless you are really good at it and know what you are doing. She expects you to know everything. She is very anal about assignments and make up tests, you cannot hand it in late, cause she takes it up right away. You must, MUST read the textbook and keep up.
Please don't take Statistics 2022 with Jenkins if you can avoid it. 98% of students were still writing their tests when she exclaimed the test was over. We had a 3 hour lecture slot, and she only gave 1 hour and 1.5 hours on the two tests. Both times I barely finished them. And I didn't have time to go to the washroom for fear of losing time. So I had to hold my bladder for 30 minutes. I got an A in 2021 with Haltretch, and never felt rushed writing tests. Jenkins' tests are unfair. Avoid her.
HARD MULTIPLE CHOICE MID TERMS! By hard I mean both A and B could be right but B is MORE right than A so its VERY confusing. When I asked about these questions, she just said "This is university, its supposed to be a bit confusing" Not this confusing, especially when we only have so little TIME. She's SO strict on time!
Dr. Jenkin is one of the best profs I've ever had. Had class at 8:30 AM and she made sure you stayed awake. Very engaging and enthusiastic. Always willing to answer questions. Tests are all multiple choice and you must study hard.
One of the worst teachers ive ever met at York university. Shes very rude and useless when asked for help. Avoid choosing classes with this teacher.
Okay I'm kind of shocked at the comments for Psych 1010... The people on here clearly do not read the text book! Honestly her test is exactly like that.Just make your notes from before... Attend your lecture and study for your test. I'm getting an A+ on all of my test so far! Although her lectures sometimes get boring GO TO THEM and also study from
THE WORST STATS PROF ever!!! do not take stats II with her-switch, switch, switch! goes through material SUPER FAST! students look super lost :O Exam are very tight on TIME! HORRIBLE 'teacher'! students feel very uncomfortable asking questions! prof is quite rude!
I took this class despite reading all of these negative comments. I just failed the second test. She gives way to many "show your work" questions with not enough time. If you need time to double check your answers or THINK don't take stats with her.
Professor Jenkin can be rather intimidating, and she does go through the material relatively fast. But needless to say don't be afraid. Pay attention in class, take good notes, do the readings and DO THE PROBLEMS, and you will do fine. For exams she does demand a lot of technical things like formatting and order, but she repeats it numerous times.
She has a quirkiness to her that you need to be receptive to going in. If you have a negativity bias you'll hate her, if not you'll love her. Lectures were posted with audio + video. Keep an open mind, she's really quite fun.
She goes through the material too fast, doesn't seem to care to answer student questions. She is a little intimidating and gives attitude with some responses I've noticed. Although there are times she is in a better mood and tries to keep stats positive and fun. She is very particular about how she wants you to answer questions, and tests are long!
One of the BEST professors at York! Brings material that I would otherwise find uninteresting to life. Great sense of humour, good examples, explains material well. Tests difficult but very fair.
One of the best professors at York! Knows how to take material that may not be all that interesting and makes it engaging by presenting it in her quirky, fun, down to earth, very approachable style. Tests in this course are difficult, but fair. Overall, a very enjoyable class experience.
I don't get some of these other comments about Prof. Jenkin. She was the most clear, optimistic, fun, and encouraging professor I've had so far. By far the most helpful, and sure, she is challenging, but if you use the resources she gives you, you will ace her class. Extremely organized, and makes everything understandable. Honestly loved her!
Was very rude when I wanted to ask questions to get help with the material. Finished with an A. Very condescending.
Honestly these comments are unrepresentative. And I would advice you do not base your success in a course on them - not even mine. She is not easy, BUT everything that is on the test or exam was either mentioned in class or was in the textbook! Fair tests; Dont go to class and the best you can get is a C+. Dont expect an A if u dnt work for it.
I found her pretty clear and interesting in her explanations. I'm not too sure about how helpful she can be one-on-one as we were a class of 400 or so, and I never spoke to her that way. Her exams were fair I found, got an A by just attending and reading the chapters a couple of times before each exam.
Her enthusiasm for statistics is what made it actually interesting. She explains everything very well, answers questions although she can seem intimidating, and her exams are fair. In fact they are pretty easy. It's not an easy 'A' but it is definitely possible if you work hard.
HER EXAMS ARE FAIR - KNOW YOUR STUFF - IF U DO ALL THE EXAMPLES AND ODD QUESTIONS IN THE BOOK U DO NOT NEED TO ATTEND CLASS N U SHLD GET AN A - SHE IS VERRRRRRY UNDERSTANDING! HER METHOD OF USING ONLY A BASIC CALCULATOR IS ACTUALLY AMAZING! IVE LEARNED SO MUCH - N FAST
Not a good professor, but an easy class.
She read off her slides. Ineffective teaching method. Bad prof, not very helpful.
Psyc 1010. She reads straight from the textbook, and posts all her slides online, which is a plus point. However, she talks waay to much, and her lectures can get boring very easily. She does not take to kindly to any criticisms you give her. Overall, an alright prof.
She's a really good prof, even though i stopped going after the first few lectures. Honestly, if you go through the textbook thoroughly, you'll be perfectly fine, but i STRESS that you need to read and understand every concept and memorize theorists names, etc and you should have an easy A. Better than the other psych profs in my opinion
Overall, a pretty easy course. She posts lectures online, so attendance is not mandatory. Her assignments were pretty straight forward. Tests were very fair--and taken straight from the text book, so make sure you do your readings. Overall, a good professor.
I was so afraid to take her class because of the (unreliable) comments I read on here- she doesn't deserve that. She's a wonderful prof, really trying to help her students and really sweet too. Her attitude is a little different, she's very blunt sometimes, but all of that with good intentions.
Not anything special :D + very hard exams and very boring classes
Tests come straight from the textbook; read the textbook - ace the tests. They are as fair as you can get. She posts lectures online as well. She was very nice all the times I've spoken to her, I'm actually very surprised to see her rating this low. She's at the very least a 4. I'll take fair over easy anyday, especially if PSYC is your major!.
Tests are VERY hard! Her classes are interesting but she seems to repeat things right out of the textbook. If you don't know every fact about the textbook, you won't do well on the exams!
She's a pretty good prof, you don't have to attend class everythin is online. 4 tests 100 mc questions and two easy assignments, you def have to read the textbook though, her questions come straight from it. Study the textbook properly and you're guaranteed to do well
Professor was extremely rude to students, unhelpful at answering questions, put students on the spot and made the classroom a place where students could not learn.
Have her for 2020 AND 2110: one of the best I've had at York so far. In 2110: lectures are clear and she brings up a lot of interesting examples. There are 3 m/c exams and 8 thought papers. Exams are fairly easy but the TA is a hard marker w/thought papers: they become a little easier once you look at the feedback and see where you need to improve.
For Stats: she is crystal clear in her lectures and very helpful. There's 5 exams and many short assignments which require you to be familiar with the concepts, so it's very important to do the chapter questions: you will only get a good mark if you practice. Overall, an amazing prof who I would highly recommend for both 2110 and 2020.
Absolutely hated her classes! She is the reason I hate psyc. She turns an easy course into a complicated difficult one! She just reads from the slides, doesn't explain much, classes are very boring. High pitched voice gets annoying after a while. Tests are easy though.
This was and still is my favourite psyc class. I found her helpful and easy to understand. Now that I've taken some other psych classes at york id say she's my favourite prof. You have to study a lot for the exams obviously, this is university
2 non-cumulative tests - all MC (Average for the first test was 70%). 6 Thought Papers (worth 18% of the final mark) - very random marking and TA's are asked to keep the average at a 67% for these thought papers. The prof teaches well and supports her points with personal examples. Overall, a good course to take!
One of the single worst profs, not only at York U but would likely take the award for worst prof in Ontario. For those confused about her mixed reviews, she also has another account with a 2.8 overall on this site. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
BRUTAL. If you like bad teachers with poor people skills and even worse teaching abilities, this is the prof for you.
I'm very surprised this prof has any good ratings whatsoever. I highly discourage anyone to take her. She makes the course seemingly much more complicated than it actually is. Very uptight and condescending. Make your life simple and choose another professor!
This prof is has a way of teaching that makes the work seem harder that it really is. Her joke are very corny. Not very approachable, and sometimes comes across as rude.
She's not that kind of person who would well disguise what she likes and dislike. Ignore her emotion and focus on the textbook and what she teaches, you will do well in her class.
Took this class in summer, so we learned everything at a faster pace. I actually really liked her. She answered any questions I had. Her lectures were interesting and clear. Overall awesome professor for STATS, I haven't had her for any other course. Best way to study is do the practice questions.
her classes are extremely interesting. she explains statistics better than my stats prof, be happy if you get her.
Dr. Jenkin is great at teaching - dotting lectures with videos, in-class inter-actives and anecdotes. Tests are good too. Study and you can get a good grade. Attending the lectures is entertaining.
she is a very easy prof. However she likes to kick people out of class.
Professor Jenkin is a fairly good prof. Don't ever rely on her powerpoints though, by the time you write down the first bullet, she is already 3 slides ahead!
Easy to understand professor. Great intro course right from the textbook. Tests can be tricky but are manageable if you do your notes and study
Jenkin is one of those Profs that won't ever see my face, and I would advise you to avoid her classes. Her lecture slides are useless as is taking notes. The only way I studied for her test (psyc 1010) was using the textbook. Literally going over every single word. And going online to find past questions. Going to her class is optional.
WONDERFUL WOMAN, GREAT TEACHER. i took her for statistics, not the easiest course but she will help you and guild you the best way she can. one of the best profs at York, as long as you do the work, go to class and ASK FOR HELP!! when you need it. All professors should be like her.
One of the best professors I had this year. She makes the lectures interesting, her tests are unbelievably fair, and she is extremely approachable. If you have any problem, she is more than willing to help. Genuinely wants all her students to do well, so much so that she provided an optional final to replace a bad test. favorite course this year.
Very concise, helpful, and makes lectures interesting! Her slides are quite hard to keep up with, if you are typing word by word. However, she does post the slides prior to lecture on moodle, with minor changes she warns you about in the begining of the year (which you have to write down) Overall loved! Be grateful if you have her!
She's a good lecturer, but comes across as condescending at times. She's too picky about how she wants things done (ex: she takes off .5 mark for not putting .00 on final answers and other little formatting things). She was alright but not the greatest. I'm going to retake the course again with another prof.
Underestimated how hard she was going to be, a good prof give her a chance,
Honestly I was also really worried about taking two classes with her over the summer because of the bad reviews, but they are all incorrect. she is one of the sweetest teachers I know, and she actually cares about her students. I write with alt exams, and she comes into alt exams and makes sure everyone is okay/that they dont have any questions
boring professor that just reads off the screen,do not recommend taking first year psych with her
Prof. Jenkin definitely takes some time to get used to, but she really is an excellent lecturer. Very clear and does plenty of examples in class. She also gave us a super easy final exam. Certainly recommended.
She's an awesome lecturer and gives anecdotes for almost every topic, making everything relatable and interesting. I'd definitely recommend taking her class, I got an A+. The exams were super straight-forward. Study the text, pay attention in class, and you're good to go.
Strongly dislike. This prof is extremely condescending. She makes things A LOT more confusing than it has to be. He tests are not fair. Slides useless, be prepared to teach yourself out of the book. I have a tutor for her class and when I showed her how things were being taught she was very surprised. If you need to take stats, AVOID HER!!!

Did not hear good things about this prof, but she is turning out to be okay, she eased us into Stats and has a relaxed approach to the lectures.
I liked Prof Jenkin so much that I'm transferring into her winter term Stats II class. I don't know who the people are who say she's unclear or unfair, but if you show up, are alive and conscious for the lectures, and raise your hand if you don't understand something, you will be absolutely fine. I'm getting an A+ and I'm not a stats whiz.

Prof Jenkin really brought the course material to life with personal examples and class discussions. There is a lot of material in this course, but she gives it good, even coverage in her lectures. Reading the textbook is essential, midterms are 3rd year level, but fair, and the paper was fairly graded. I'm getting an A and recommend Jenkin's 3490.

Was so nervous to take her stats class because math is NOT my thing. But she made everything so easy to understand and was clear in her lectures. I ended up with an A in her class and I recommend her to anyone!
Great prof! She tailors her lectures to social science ppl who don't like math, and she explains everything very clearly and really dumbs it down, which for me was perfect. However, its REALLY easy to fall behind and impossible to catch up if you do. You have to stay on top of the work each week, and you'll be fine.
I had the displeasure of taking stats 2021. I never write mean reviews on profs because Im against it but she was dreadful. You ask a question she is condescending, she over complicates simple instructions and is not engaging what so ever. There was a substitute one class and everyone was more engaged in that one lec than the whole semester.
Had her for Adult Development and Aging. Easy course but lots of reading + memorizing for the exams! The assignments are pretty straightforward and simple.. I believe are meant to be a grade booster, which is nice.
Stats is a boring and hard subject, but she makes it tolerable with good lectures and lots of in class examples. However tests are marked hard and rather different from assignment questions. Do well on the assignments, you need the mark boost (no reason not to get at least 90% on them). On tests, be very detail oriented in math and notations.
Overall an alright professor. She was able to teach stats 2 efficiently and that's what really maters. I found her tests to be a bit hard though. I feel we did not get enough time (at least for the midterm) and she was too picky (12 off for small things like using 1 rather than 1.00). She can be a bit moody sometimes too.
This professor is amazing if you're willing to work hard you will be rewarded . She's loving and cares about her students success if you prove you want to learn. Clear lectures, over all great professor. Very to the point woman!
She's an alright prof. She teaches the material effectively, but I didn't find her to be very helpful. I emailed her once to ask if there would be graphing on the final exam, and her response was "Why wouldn't there be?" Yeah, thanks. Lecture notes were nice to have, but you really just need the textbook. Study the textbook well, and you'll do fine
Great prof, extremely knowledgeable and helpful, she doesn't mind being corrected if she's wrong, and doesn't bite your head off if you ask questions. Her tests are very fair, her slides can be used as a guideline but most of the studying should be done from the textbook.
great lecture but shes pretty strict
I would recommend avoiding her. Talks down to students who are making a genuine effort, not enough time to finish tests, offers convoluted answers and explanations, and expectations are unclear. Not all bad though - reviewed Stats 1 extensively, and workload was reasonable. I ultimately learned the material and did well, but didn't enjoy this class
Never approach her to ask a question , she makes you feel stupid ! If you actually had an emergency or legit reason for handing in papers ... she will not even bother to listen to you shell just keep saying no its late its late and deduct marks ! Just never approach her and you'll be fine.
She can have slightly weird ways of doing things but if you pay attention and follow with her you wont get lost. Exams and assignments very straight forward.
Avoid her if you can. She doesn't give enough time to complete the midterm and the final exam was very hard. She is also very strict. Stay away.
Lectures aren't useful, read the book and memorize the slides. Tests are fair , but it's the vague and very subjectively marked assignments that made the class terrible.
Heather Jenkin is terrible please avoid enrolling in any of her class
I took PSYC1010 with her and course was really interesting. It caught me from the beginning. She's always smiling and teaches with clarification and with as much easiness as possible for her students to understand!
i had stats 1 and 2 with her... worst prof ever
Avoid taking classes with Jenkin. Doesn't give enough time to complete exams and is extremely rude and disrespectful in the way she talks to students. Gets upset when you copy down her hmwrk answers, says you should be checking your over, not copying hers down. Very scatterbrained lectures, not very clear. Goes too quickly. Talks down to people.
She only gives two hours for exams (except the final) and when asked why she is very standoffish saying "whenever I give more time people still complain about not having enough time" despite the fact that giving the standard three hours would be of no detriment to her. She is quite scatterbrained and does not take a lot of time to explain.
By far worst prof. Rude, condescending & LOVES when students are struggling. Her lectures consist of her showing off how fast she can solve problems on the board. Like GOOD JOB HEATHER... you can solve basic starts problems. Also gives 12 page exams with 2 hour limit. Only got an A cause i skipped every class and taught myself from the book.
AVOID HER!! She's literally the worst
no passion, very boring, and very difficult exams.
no passion, so difficult, very hard exams
Had her for the 2nd half of a full year course & attendance dropped like crazy after her first lecture. Lecture came straight from slides, which all came from the textbook & were also posted online, which didn't exactly motivate you to go to class. Very dry lecturer. Reading the text is enough to pass, & easier & less time consuming than class
Pretty standard prof, lectures may be a bit dry but she explains concepts if you don't understand them. She takes up homework every week but it isn't mandatory to do. Textbook just gives more clarity and extra information. Be sure to do practice questions
pay attention, ask questions (ta is very helpful)&do the q's in the textbook you'd have no problem getting an A. the textbook questions are the same types on the test. she does lots of examples in class which is great. i think people rate her low cus they dont practice the questions. I didn't read a single page of the book, just practice q's in it
Very easy tests, but she's not exactly the nicest character. Lectures are useless, all her questions come from the textbook and slides. She tends to not cover the end of a powerpoint in lecture and then test you on it. Have to take her again in summer, but definitely not recommended if you have another choice.
Avoid taking any classes with this professor. If you are taking her stats course be careful because she does not explain anything, so you have to teach yourself with the textbook. She is not understanding and very rude when you approach her for help.
She genuinely enjoys when students DON'T do well ... avoid at all costs
Good Points: - Good sense of humor - Makes the lectures interactive - Organized Bad Points: - Instructions are sometimes unclear and vague - Inadequate time to finish the midterm, especially for short answers. - Half of the lectures are spent reviewing textbook material.
Jenkin uses several in class demonstrations to help keep you engaged. She also shares a lot of current research happening in the field and research she's done in the past is pretty interesting. Tests are fairly difficult. Short answers and weighted heavy, practice those. Don't miss any online participation marks; you'll need the mark boost.
Avoid HER!
She doesn't teach properly and gets mad when students ask questions. There's never enough time to finish her tests. she's rude to students for no reason. The only good thing about this class were the TA's. I got an A by not going to class and studying the textbook on my own. don't take this class with her.
Stay away from this class if possible. Did not enjoy the class whatsoever.
Worst prof I have ever had at York. I had her for psych2022 and she taught stats by reading off a powerpoint which had long notes on it which you weren't able to copy down bc she zoomed through the info. Her & her TA's were very rude, especially during examinations. I got an A by studying the textbook on my own and teaching myself.
Jenkin is fine. She does not have much passion when she teaches, but her lectures are VERY straightforward. Her tests are all MC - extremely simple and usually come straight from the textbook.
The class itself wasn't that hard, its just professor jenkin that completely ruined psych for me. She is unbelievably dry, rude, unapproachable, and self centred. If you want to take psych 1010 or you have to, I strongly recommend any other prof, don't take professor jenkin's class! Everyone I talked to in my class felt the same as I did!
Do not take her! save your GPA and $ Unless you can afford private tutoring or are willing to teach yourself using the book and YouTube. She is a rude self entered woman. Not meant to teach just show off. Rushes through material, doesn't give adequate time for tests. It is unreasonable, I got an A+ through P.A.S.S, tutoring and doing it everyday
Best prof I had at YorkU. Knowledgeable, has a lot of very interesting real world research experience. Tough course, but you end up learning a lot from her. Thank you!!
She seemed nice at first. Lectures are very dry and boring. Tests are not hard but timing is unreasonable to write quality short answers. She let students believe that their grades were % instead of marks out of 120; so the whole time I thought I was getting an 87, and she decides to tell us otherwise past the drop date. I'm furious.
She's okay, kinda boring. Do not talk during her lectures cause she will call you out in front of everyone. You need to read the textbooks inside and out in order to do well she bases her lectures strictly from the textbook so just read it and memorize pretty much everything (especially definitions) and you'll be good.
I took PSYC 2020 with professor Jenkins over the summer and I got my first A in math ever, in my whole life. Her lectures were engaging and I found I was able to actually learn the material. I did well on the exams. My only critique is that she made the first two exams fairly easy (IMO) and then the final ended up being 19 questions and hard.
I took this course last year but realized I never rated her. I did not enjoy it. It was very hard as she didn't explain concepts clearly. We had homework every class (not for grading/marks just so that we stay on top of it) Honestly I only ended up with an A because of the strike bc weightings were changed. If not I would have prob had a B.
So boring, she just read the slides and tells stories about 60s and 70s. Read the book and the slides and do not go to the lectures, you will waste your time. Tests are heavy but doable.
Lectures didn't really seem necessary; you could probably just read the textbook and get an A. Otherwise, a great professor.
nice prof, but bad lecturer. She skips slides and then says "it'll be on the test" she has so much info in her slides but test was alot on the txtbk. Thought the test would be easy but it was difficult as heck.
My problem was that the slides that she would provide were not even close to the ones she used in class. Hence, I had to sneak pictures of all the slides and compile my notes later, which was very time consuming and tedious. This course was also content heavy for tests and the amount of content we covered was excessive and fast pace
I really enjoyed Dr. Jenkin's class. Lectures reinforced readings, she knows her stuff, she answered all of our questions thoughtfully & we had some great class discussion. There's lots of content so lots of reading . We had 4 noncumulative tests with 90 MC & 2 SA questions each & you get full participation marks for doing weekly online quizzes.
Really good prof, she's specific and she's very approachable. She really made me feel excited to continue in psych and is a good lecturer.
She is a great prof. Her lectures are very interesting plus she is always clear on what is expected from the student and there is no surprises on her exams. If you go to her lectures and do learning curves on the launchpad you will do well in the course as test questions are very similar to LC. She also very prompt in answering her emails
She is the rudest prof i have ever seen in my life. She doesnt care about her students grades. If you care about yours never take her classes. You wouldnt be regret listening to me.
This professor is not considerate during a world wide pandemic! She makes things hard on us due to her previous class cheating. Her privilege reeks through her skin. She making us do 66 MC in 50 mins! Less than a minute per question! BEWARE STAY AWAY.
Tbh awful prof. I didn't enjoy her class at all, but I started doing the launchpad after two mediocre marks, and realized a lot of questions come from that. So really just keep doing those questions and you'll get a decent mark. Still, would not recommend.
Dr. Jenkin was a great prof! It was definitely an adjustment to switch from in-person classes to online, but she managed technical difficulties well. I really enjoyed hearing her research stories, as she's well seasoned and has many fascinating adventures. She was fair on testing and adapted well to feedback. I enjoyed myself and learned a lot.
You would think she'd be more understanding during a pandemic. She will almost always give a sarcastic/useless response to questions. Midterm was a mess; gave us 8 mins to answer essay questions worth 10 marks because she was worried about cheating, and marked extremely hard. Left us in the dark about our marks until the end of the course. AVOID!!
Shes beyond careless. Purposely marks hard on exams. She genuinely enjoys seeing students suffer. She does not understand how to communicate with students and purposely drops your mark on tests. Truly on of the most difficult courses Ive ever had to take. You would think during a pandemic, shed be a little more compassionate. Not in her case.
Boring, and yawns through the lecture. Tests are very hard and class does not do well.
Doesn't take criticism well. Didn't give us enough time to complete the midterm because she didn't want us cheating and when we complained she started getting defensive before and after the midterm. If you have her online get ready to listen to her mic constantly scratching against something, guarantee you will get a ringing in your ear each time
Terrible Prof! you think during a pandemic she'd be a little more caring and lenient, but she was not. She is a tough grader, didn't give enough time for midterms/exam! says she cares about her students, but she does not, she is careless and doesn't answer questions when asked during zoom meetings! only gave us 50 mins to answer 60 MC.. AVOID HER!
Jenkin was the worst prof I've ever had at York and 2030 is the hardest course I've taken at York because of her. doesn't know how to teach. Extremely rude and doesn't take criticism well (becomes defensive). Makes the exams extra hard to prevent students from "cheating" and marks difficult for assignments. She is straight trash. Avoid!!!!!!!!!!!
worst prof I've had. Doesn't know how to teach( reads straight off slides). Rude and inconsiderate. Genuinely wants students to suffer. Exams and assignments are really difficult for no reason. Becomes defensive when criticized. Avoid at all costs. She shouldn't even be a prof tbh.
The only thing I'd appreciate about her is that she forces students to take chapter quizzes every session (I was prepared for the exam). You have to get the textbook (lots of mindtap assignments). Exams were kinda fair but not enough time. She was rude to some students. Try your best not to take this course with her. TAs were fine tho
She's an extremely tough grader and doesn't like to listen to her students. Her midterm and finals are designed poorly and difficult to succeed in. If you study really well you might be able to get a B. Definitely do not recommend taking a course with her.
Beware the format of the exam is terrible, you go on 3 different websites which consist of multiple choice, and two SA documents that you submit separately. Its super time consuming but besides that if you do the readings an A is very much achievable.
I had her for PSYC 2022 (Statistical Methods II). She is a terrible person! I still have nightmares about this course! the exam was irrelevant to the textbook materials and her lectures! it was a summer course and 80% of the class dropped the course! I should have too! Took the exact same course in the fall and passed with an A+. I Hate Her!
The marking was extremely vague on short answer exam questions and in assignments. Prof Jenkin was great during zoom lecture periods for Q&As but even bored herself during her lecture recordings (yawning). When students became worrisome of the extremely low class average, she was not accommodating and became very defensive. Would not recommend!
Don't waste your time, money, and energy. I studied for more than 1oo hours for the final exam at the end I got C. She is very unfair, the TA's are very rude. The exams are super hard and unfair. I still don't realize why York U works with her, because I know 90 percent of the class complained about her to the department!
Terrible prof. Unhelpful. Material is straightforward, however, her difficult grading and zero feedback as to where I lost marks left me incapable of succeeding in her class. Dropped. This prof doesn't care and it shows.
Lectures recordings were monotone and sometimes too low in volume, making it difficult to hear. Tests are fair. Very tough grading on the reflection papers with little to no feedback provided.
heathers tests are 60 questions in 60 minutes (nearly impossible to do). shes rude, ignorant, and does not care about student concerns and feedback. theres about 5-6 textbook chapters (5 hours of lecture material) covered each week (along with 1 quiz and learning curve to go along with each). you basically just read an entire textbook
Had to buy Lauchpad for quizzes and homework which was due every week. She doesnt explain very well. Voice is monotone. won't take her again
Took as a remote course. User launchpad a lot. Clear on assignments, tests were 60 MC in 60 min. Her lectures were interesting.
She is a great teacher but has lots of homework to do every week.
only one essay assignment and it was very short, just 500 words. Lectures, exams and assignments were easy to understand and clear. She is a fair grader, overall I loved the Prof and the course and would recommend it to everyone.
Had a 6 credit psych course with her in one term. Expected to be very fast pace but felt almost unmanageable at times with no sympathy (kinda expected from profs). Basically an average professor with a fair grading scheme: if you do all the readings and study, you'll get an A+. Nothing too special or too out of the ordinary, more in the middle
she doesnt know how to test or teach. She gives out the most vague SA questions on exams and expects answers based on how she imagined the answer in her mind. She expects specific examples and ways of answering the questions that are unrealistic & she gives 0 guidance, legit failing most students. Even the TA didn't know how to help prepare for SA
professor was kind enough to defer my midterm twice due to personal reasons. B sure 2 do all the weekly quizzes from first week. Assignment is pretty boring. B sure 2 do a draft n ask 4 your TAs feedback. Her test questions are oddly specific MCQ askin how many percentage of certain adults died this year like ??? READ THE TEXTBOOK
She is one of the most awful prof ever. The rubric is the opposite of what he requires, 0 sympathy for students, rude TAs, impossible tests to pass, heavy content, boring lectures( she yaws during the class), and no respect for students. if you want to ruin your mental health and GPA go with her.
I actually took this course in 2014. I often reflect on professor Jenkin's teaching style and the detrimental affects it may have on first year undergraduate students. It's interesting to see the notion of lack of compassion has been highlight may times by students in this thread and professor Jenkins has not made any changes in the last 8 years.
Really kind prof. You can tell she is really passionate about the subjects she teaches.
Professor Jenkin cares about her students and their success in her course. Her async material could be improved upon, but the textbook she uses is really great though.
I can't say she's a bad prof but there are a lot of things that she could improve on. I like that she breaks up her video lectures into multiple clips. The clips are a tolerable duration, but the least she could do is sound a little more interested in what she's teaching. You could hear her yawning, eating or drinking something. I avoid having her
Dr Jenkins was a delight! Her content is straightforward and interesting; you must do the work. She Is a very fair grader, and her exams are not tricky.. just again - do the readings and watch the lectures. Her assignments were short and easy. Dr. Jenkins is VERY kind & generous with her time. I highly recommend Adult Development and Aging!
I took this as an ONCA double speed course and found the material and assignments VERY heavy. Your understanding and memorization of the textbook matters a lot in this course. There were 4 tests with 80 MC and 5 short answer, which are very tricky. Lectures were mid. I got my mark by not going to class and studying the textbook on my own.
Heather was amazing at making the course content clear. She provided a lot of examples for applications to different psych theories although her lectures are just basically her rereading from the textbook. She provides very clear short answer question examples that show up on the test. Do the online learning curves/modules to pass.
This professor doesn't care whatsoever about her students whatsoever. After dealing with a strike and then having to deal with my dying mother in the hospital I asked for understanding and accommodations which she coldly denied stating that it's "course policy". Genuinely worst prof at york none of my other profs responded in the manner she did
She basically did not teach. It was preach sessions and had no added value to participate or even read the slides. The textbook was pretty heavy in content and if you cannot study for long hours then you are in trouble. The course was held during the strike but it was a pretty messy course eitherway.
Information is amazing. However her classes are boring and monotonous. No time to process and apply information. Too many videos explaining what she should be doing. Extremely tedious. Psychology is a lot of work but it doesn't have to be annoying. Look for another course or professor. Having a PhD doesn't make you good at teaching.
Psychology itself it's an amazing field full of wonderful information. However, having a PhD doesn't mean you have good skills to teach. Her classes are mediocrely performed, too many videos on YouTube doing the job for her. Out of 6 hours she will only give you 1 which are mostly videos. If possible, avoid the course with this professor.
She reads what she teaches or let a utube video explains it for her. She shows no interest of teaching and she contradicts herself way too much. She's so desperate to end the session and is less than an hour. Worse psychology class I have ever seen.
She did well to try to relate text book materials into her lectures and used a variety of visual tools(ytube, pictures, self tests) The course is condensed so be prepared for 3 heavy exams which are focused on approx. 17 chapters at a time. Lots of reading, but if you take the time to do the practice quizzes online you should do well for the exams.
Lots to do. You just need to keep up and you will be fine. It's not too bad
In this course the prof was basically unnecessary. All the material was in the textbook, and the lectures were mostly for going over the textbook content and adding some elements like ted-talks, personal experience, or very dated references. Not great, not terrible.
Just a big waste of time. Her lessons are not necessary at all, she's not necessary at all. Just read the book and be prepared for a very long and heavy test.
Read the textbook and study and you will pass with flying colours. Her lectures and word for word from the textbook, so I skipped all of them and managed to still get an easy A. Her exams are short answer heavy, but you get to choose which 6/8 questions to answer, so it's a very fair exam. Opt in to Achieve as well for easy practice.
She was a really tough grader, and the tests and lectures were heavy, but honestly speaking, she was a fair professor. At first, she seemed like a really bad teacher, but she truly is not. The assignments were ok, if you knew what you were doing, the course would be fine.
The course was fully online and lecture and reading heavy. However, all the test were fair game and based on the both lectures and readings. The prof hosted weekly online sessions where we could discuss the lecture material and some related studies. The textbook is very engaging and easy to read as well.
We were originally supposed to have two 3-hour lectures a week for the condensed version of PSYC1010, but she cut it down to one lecture per week. These lectures rarely lasted over 40 minutes and added NOTHING. Having a prof was useless. Achieve modules are annoying, but it's worth the 15% boost you get since the 3 tests (27% each) are awful.
basically just memorize the entire textbook with this prof
She is nice and she is not a very tough grader but get ready to read a lot.
HAHAHA SAVE YOUR TIME.
Her zooms consisted of ted talks and that was it.For a class that was supposed to be 2 hours they were 7-30 mins max .... whole semester consisted of memorizing the whole textbook as her slides consisted of literally nothing which can get intense with other course loads .Online course with in person exams ,do not take if you want to boost your gpa
Very minimal lectures, mostly self-teaching with lots of textbook reading. The course is fast-paced and condensed into one term, especially online. You can pass, but getting a high mark is difficult. The professor is nice and responsive, and the exams are manageable, though tests are on weekends.
